SWF 2014: A Young Lion's Second Year in the Den (Three-Way Brand Split)

Recommended Posts

This is awesome. I've loved the brand idea since I played SvR 2008 [though ECW could have been done A LOT better]. I didn't follow the brand split closely and I don't know if/how ECW had a role. I always wanted to play as ECW but couldn't as they only were allotted one title. I loved Hardcore, innovative wrestling and upon watching old PPVs on Youtube just loved the presentation in general and multiple Kayfaybe injuries.

I wonder how DaVe will respond to their "Hardcore Champion" bowing out so ungracefully? Their first show is the next post -- My hunch now is that Caufield will drop the title to someone else soon. But whom? I gotta think Ash Campbell will be in the mix -- he's the son of the DaVe's poster boy -- Nemesis, and it would be a way to restart.

I guess I have to go see if there is a corresponding real world Ash Campbell (Tommy Dreamer Jr. or Sandman Jr.) smashing boards with nails into someones' head in a minor promotion.

Thanks! :D This is actually my own twist on the brand split setup - WWE, as far as I can remember, had this Battle for Brand Supremacy some WrestleManias ago (Batista vs Umaga), but I don't think anything was up for grabs. Here, you've got the winning brand at the end of five Battles of the Brands (or a sixth at the November PPV in case a tiebreaker is needed) getting something - the right to get anyone from the losing brands except their champs, straight up, no need to trade someone in return.

Ideally, Chris Caulfield is a gatekeeper at this point in his career, and to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed with the grades he's been giving me. I don't think DaVE's higher-ups will be too upset, though - Carlos Ray Batch, after all, is a babyface authority figure. Still, Caulfield was iconic back when DaVE the promotion was still around, and there's no one more fitting to wear the DaVE title belt, as far as the present roster goes. I'm not sure how long I'll have him holding the DaVE title or whom I'll have him drop the strap to, but good call on Ash Campbell. He's in the midst of a face turn, and he's someone I plan to give a better push to in 2014.

Speaking of DaVE, I hope to have the next show up within the next couple hours! Will be out of town from Friday to Sunday, so I'm hoping to have everything completed (backstage segment, Uprising/Uprising feat. DaVE, next prediction keys) by then.

OOC - No, it's not all Klubb shenanigans, pot sessions with Remmy and Ash, and drunken mayhem as far as backstage segments go. We've also got some romantic interludes in this diary, some "slash", if you may, and here we see KP Avatar and Dawn the Cheerleader on their first date in months. ;)

Uprising should be up later on today! :D

"Coffee Date"

January 19, 2014

The Starbucks near Charles E. Smith Center, Washington, DC

4:00 p.m.

My back hurt. Real bad. Steve Frehley was a true professional, a man who worked a militant black gimmick and uttered a lot of profanity despite being, in real life, a one-time star student who still attended church on most, if not all Sundays. But I'd be lying if I said I felt no pain after receiving a Frehley's Comet from the Dark Destroyer as part of that dumb-ass angle Eric Eisen wanted me to do on When Hell Freezes Over. Apart from me being an "Uncle Tom", why'd Steve, who's working on Supreme, pick on me, who's jobbing it out in Elite? There had to be some sort of payoff from that angle, and I hoped Eric would tell me about it soon.

Despite waking up in pain, I pushed forward with my date with Dawn - a sweet, innocent coffee date before Uprising taping. Just like the friends we were supposed to be after the initial acrimony that followed our breakup, we had some good conversation about several topics. And while we tried to avoid talking about the business, it was inevitable Dawn would ask about how things were going on the Elite brand.

"Oh, Dawn, you don't want to be on Elite. The Eisen boys run a really tight ship."

"Really?"

"For anyone who isn't a member of the Klubb. I dunno, Dawn. I kinda prefer it when the old man was still attending every Supreme TV, micro-managing everything and drinking all that coffee and Red Bull to stay awake and hyper despite being up for two days straight. Eric and Jerry are like little kids given a million dollars and let loose at a toy store! Eric's putting the moves on your namesake, taking advantage of the fact that her beau's on the Supreme brand." I was referring to Dawn "Stephanie Percy"/"Persephone" Coombs, Stevie's girlfriend, whom Eric had been flirting with on the last Elite taping.

"Guess I should be lucky then." Dawn took a sip of her coffee and looked longingly into my eyes. Just like back in the day. "Paul doesn't seem too bad as Eric's assistant booker for Supreme, now that he doesn't have the Eisens to hang with."

"What about Drew?"

"Oh, KP," said Dawn, giggling infectiously. "I put him in the friendzone for the LAST TIME last night at When Hell Freezes Over! Didn't you hear us? The cameras did pick up a bit of our argument, though you couldn't understand what we were saying."

"I must have been getting beaten up by Steve," I laughed. "Good thing you aren't dating that drunkard anymore."

"I thought it would work between us, KP, but...I dunno. He's like an overgrown junior high kid with a drinking problem! Still not as bad as what I've heard about Jay Chord, but..."

Silence. And it wasn't that awkward kind of silence.

Leave it to this damn Starbucks branch to play classic Motown hits round the clock. Dawn was giggling that schoolgirl giggle of hers as Marvin Gaye began crooning in that soulful voice of his. Yes, it was that damn song again. OUR SONG, that mutual favorite love song of ours and a not-so-guilty pleasure of mine. Damned if it didn't bring back some memories...or awaken some passions.

"If this world were mine, I'd place at your feet

All that I own; you've been so good to me

If this world were mine

I'd give you the flowers, the birds and the bees

For with your love inside me, that would be all I need

If this world were mine

I'd give you anything"

Soon, Dawn was singing along to Tammi Terrell's parts...or Cheryl Lynn's, if you're more familiar with the '80s cover. Dawn wasn't a very good singer, but then again, she sounded much better than any given Partay Dude except J-Sense.

"If this world were mine, I'd make you a king, With wealth untold, you could have anything." Giggle. "I'm sorry, KP, you know I'm not like Ana or Kristen who could carry a tune..."

More silence from me, more giggling from Dawn.

And one helluva dilemma as I pondered whether I'd want to give it another try with Dawn...or do what I'd been doing for the past couple months, which was enjoying being a single man in the surreal world of professional wrestling.

NO KP!!! Stay single and aim for a A*!!!

Don't worry...I'm having KP remain single for the meantime. It's more fun that way. ;)

Anyway, let's move on to the next Uprising which, unfortunately, redefines the lower reaches of main event grades once again, and heightens the urgency of signing Eddie Peak from TCW. Thank goodness Uprising is just a B-show. :p

SWF Uprising

Charles E. Smith Center (Washington DC, Mid-Atlantic)

PRE-SHOW:

None.

UPRISING:

ANGLE - When Hell Freezes Over Recap - Gilmore vs Bruce (88/B+)

In this five-minute recap from When Hell Freezes Over, we see the intense, exciting cage match between World Heavyweight champ Jack Bruce and Tom "Angry" Gilmore, including several close calls where they nearly escaped, and Gilmore bashing Bruce's face on the cage, causing the Cream of the Crop to wear the crimson mask. Finally, we see Supreme GM Rip Chord, acting as ringside marshal, entering the cage and stopping Gilmore as he's kicking Bruce in the head repeatedly. As Gilmore, who resents being told what to do, attempts to floor his boss with the Anger Management, Jack Bruce sneaks up with a New York Minute, enabling him to stagger out the cage and hang on to the World title.

ANGLE - RPJ Hypes 100% Pure vs The Platinum Blondes (49/D)

The SWF has just signed CGC's Adrian Garcia (to be renamed Gary Adriance, as the SWF already has the unrelated Ana and Freddy Garcia), but as he waits for his CGC contract to expire, we've got Dawn the Cheerleader deputizing as backstage interviewer - she's interviewing the newly-renamed straight-edge tag team of 100% Pure and their manager Richie Pangrazzio Jr., ahead of Squeeky McClean and Spencer Spade's singles matches against the Platinum Blondes. Pangrazzio says he's the "newest convuht to the straight-edge lifestyle," and adds that he "coulda been a stah in Major League Baseball if I wasn't such a drinkah back when I was youngah." McClean adds that the SWF is filled with "beer drinkers, pill poppers, smokers of all kinds - cigars, cigarettes, joints", and it's about time that clean-living sorts like himself and Spade show what it means to be 100 percent pure in body and mind.

McClean - Thanks to yours truly, my friend Spencer and our manager Coach Richie have turned their backs on their vices, and are of sound mind and body. Unlike the rest of you, including those party-hearty Platinum Blondes, we take care of ourselves. And maybe you should too, Dawn the Cheerleader. Just because you don't wrestle doesn't give you an excuse to abuse your body! (to Spade) C'mon, Spence. Time to show those hung over Platinum Blondes what a little purity and abstinence can do for 'ya.

Frederique Antonio Garcia (w/James Prudence) vs Squeeky McClean (w/Richie Pangrazzio Jr. and Spencer Spade) - Supreme (63/C)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/821827c2-18bb-4779-ae13-e27c6f136b3e_zpsb40685f9.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/261c9c65-e192-410c-88da-78da3b3e1e05_zps54a42388.jpg

Though Freddy Garcia does his best to throw Squeeky McClean off with his deliberately effeminate behavior, McClean is all business here, no longer the obsequious toady he used to be, but one who focuses on his real-life straight-edge status and condemns the smokers and drinkers of the world. The match flows back and forth between both sides, but ends with McClean making Garcia tap out of the Clean Out.

WINNER - McClean in 5:23

Cowboy Soul vs The New Profit Margin (w/Ms. Emma Chase) - Elite (45/D-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/cfa5da87-40b8-45c5-b58a-e2b097715267_zps25db0155.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/fccaef32-3f53-44ae-a7a5-c30a054745cd_zps250c2d12.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/a3fa05e9-dea0-4bbb-af8d-8a39e7fa9e04_zps5076ccb7.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/73a7a879-4672-4cdf-9178-2b937b9bed26_zps8812b4db.jpg

Could the "dollar signs" be making a comeback soon? Ms. Chase, who joins Jason Azaria and Kyle Rhodes for commentary in this match, has traded her usual slacks for a miniskirt, and she's got an extra button or two unbuttoned on her white shirt. Chase doesn't flash the 'signs, but she doesn't really have to - J. Gordon Reed and Rodney Ekuma make quick work of Cowboy Soul, with Reed landing a Stock Market Crash on a listless-looking KP Avatar.

WINNERS - The New Profit Margin in 3:47

ANGLE - Colossus and Ekuma Destroy Cowboy Soul (51/D)

So...what exactly is BB Colossus' status within The Chase Agency, now that he's on a different brand? We see a brief reunion between Rodney Ekuma and original Profit Margin monster BB Colossus, as J. Gordon Reed lets the two brutes manhandle Cowboy Rob Dillon and KP Avatar, just like in the pre-brand split days.

Ryan Gregory vs THE ARCHITECT - Elite (31/E+)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/c7f187ec-882e-4bcb-b952-baccd9e6c640_zps7c3765e8.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/52af64e6-49ab-4209-8ff1-51777b2fc9f4_zps276025f1.jpg

Last week, we saw THE ARCHITECT show the SWF Galaxy exactly how he feels about one-time tag partner Ryan Gregory - not good at all. Gregory, who used to compete in the SWF as jobber Greg Rayne (same push, different name), looks strong in this match, and both men show good chemistry. Gregory taps out of THE BLUEPRINT as THE ARCHITECT yells his catchphrase - "I am THE ARCHITECT and no one can be prouder, if you don't believe me, I'll yell a little louder!"

WINNER - THE ARCHITECT in 4:19

James Prudence (w/Frederique Antonio Garcia) vs Spencer Spade (w/Richie Pangrazzio Jr. and Squeeky McClean) - Supreme (54/D+)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/35b90a1c-eddd-4289-86d2-82e7b2b1f4c3_zpsf47f1468.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/fc30cba1-b762-40c5-9bb8-5f42f158a0c1_zpsdb3e8586.jpg

Earlier, Squeeky McClean won the first of two singles matches involving 100% Pure and The Platinum Blondes. Could Jimmy Prudence make up for Freddy Garcia's earlier loss? The Blondes seem to be on to something, as Garcia tries to distract Spencer Spade by lighting a cigar at ringside and blowing the smoke in his face; McClean pulls some distractions as well, climbing on the apron and sanctimoniously telling Prudence off for his "decadent California surfer boy lifestyle." At 4:35, Prudence is on the top rope, going for a Surf's Up on a fallen Spade, but Richie Pangrazzio Jr. shakes the ropes, prompting Darren Smith to call for a DQ.

WINNER - Prudence in 4:44 via DQ

UPRISING PRESENTS - DaVE:

ANGLE - When Hell Freezes Over Recap - Champion vs James (81/B)

Jason Azaria hypes the new DaVE theme song "DaVE is Here, Man," by Alabama rap-rockers Mudge Stucco (OOC - this diary's version of Stuck Mojo), as the listeners at home hear the song's aggressive riffs provide a backdrop for the Nicky Champion vs Brandon James SWF title match recap from When Hell Freezes Over. Highlights of the recap include James getting fed up with Peter Michaels' insistent cheering and Champion going for a flash pinfall attempt following the unintentional distraction, and the final sequence, where James retains his title with a Big Money Move on Champion, winning the match without the usual assistance from The Chase Agency.

ANGLE - Laine Gets Ready (ZERO)

The first match of Uprising Presents - DaVE is, once again, a BB Colossus squash, and his opponent for the evening is TWL's Joffy Laine, wrestling this evening as Danny "Moody Wings' Layne, a reference to former Moody Blues and Wings member Denny Laine. Layne, who is billed as being from Arlington, Virginia, tells Colossus that he "ain't afraid of giant boogeymen like y'all" as the announcers hype him as a "promising local boy" even if he's really from Texas. Hey, it isn't as bad as Eisaku Hoshino getting repackaged as "Eskimo Hotstuff" Kenneth Gurgel from Alaska!

Danny Layne vs BB Colossus (25/E-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/3e406926-1036-4aee-86f6-8209f27174a2_zpsef7cc3f9.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/8bf7767e-f102-4745-b192-ddd3ab4ae2f6_zpse8b0ce25.jpg

You know how this turns out, right?

WINNER - Colossus in 0:41.

ANGLE - Mystery Man Saves Layne from Colossus (30/E+)

Defeating a purported local jobber with a punch, a chop, a clothesline and a Colossus Avalanche isn't enough, of course, for the man born Bernard Brown in California, some 27-28 years ago. BB Colossus proceeds to decimate "Arlington, Virginia's very own Danny Layne", but he is interrupted by a trenchcoat-wearing masked man who bashes him from behind with a chair! Colossus, hardly fazed by the attack, turns around and tries to chokeslam the mystery man, but before he can do so, the man has left the ring and is leaving through the stands, simply nodding at the camera and pointing at Colossus. Who could this mysterious figure be? Jason Azaria and Kyle Rhodes speculate on this as we move backstage...

ANGLE - Batch Chooses Partner for Kiichi (38/D-)

...where DaVE GM Carlos Ray Batch is trying to convince Michael James Kiichi that his manager Jessie is right - he's best suited in tag team competition. Kiichi, who's been teasing a heel turn with his spoiled brat attitude, says he's not interested, and asks Batch why he can't fight as a singles competitor instead of being packaged as someone he's not. "They gonna kill ya in singles!", says Batch. "You should know that, bein' the Not-So Amazing Urchin before the brand split!" Batch says he's already got Kiichi booked against The Road Hoggz, with his partner being veteran JD Morgan.

Kiichi - That boring old Brit? You're crazy, Carlos Ray. But I'm gonna do this, because the SWF Galaxy deserves to see that I, Michael James Kiichi, am more than just a stereotypical Asian-American martial artist, and a zillion times better than havin' to wear a damned urchin suit!

Emerald Angel (w/Hell Monkey) vs Bobby Bruce © (w/Karen Killer) - Shooting Star Title Match

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/0ba83b6e-d629-4a99-8547-fd1a43f4370a_zps3c763c93.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/0ac0173d-5a30-4532-8409-017b60717323_zpsf5824508.jpg

Off-screen, Emerald Angel was in hot water earlier for spitting at an autograph seeker, but the fans in attendance at the Charles E. Smith center do not know this, as they cheer the young Japanese star against the cocky Shooting Star champ Bobby Bruce, who's making another title defense. Bruce, who Jason Azaria says is New Money Army DaVE's charter member, amazes with some strong technical wrestling, which complements Angel's exciting high-flying moves, but it's his kayfabe dad's move - the New York Minute/Bobby Blitzkrieg Bop - that finishes Angel off at a little over 5:30.

WINNER - B. Bruce in 5:38. Bobby Bruce is STILL the Shooting Star Champion.

ANGLE - Bobby Bruce Promo/Hype for Jack Bruce (83/B+)

Bobby Bruce celebrates his successful title defense by rudely grabbing a microphone from a stage hand and demanding that someone give him a "f---in' beer." Bruce talks about his father Jack being the greatest World Heavyweight title holder ever, and himself being the man who will bring legitimacy to the Shooting Star title. After this standard intro, Bruce boasts that he will be performing at the next PPV, Nothing to Lose, with the rest of his band, the Bobby Bruce Bonanza (vocalist/guitarist Sammy Bach, vocalist/bassist Jack Bruce, guitarist Jefferson Stardust, drummer Huey Cannonball), and that he'll also be booked on the PPV proper. "So you better be sure, Carlos Ray Batch, you got a good opponent for me. No more scrubs, please!", yells Bruce to conclude his promo.

JD Morgan and Michael James Kiichi (w/Jessie) vs Road Hoggz (42/D-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/6f212e47-8d41-46e4-b9a1-315e490f0738_zps4f02fa19.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9b7f16d4-1aa3-4872-9e5a-50ca09e1f8ea_zpsf2714fab.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9eef35b1-03ea-4a69-8589-0915cdba98b2_zps5c6a7b57.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/908618c6-92cb-4ffb-a072-35e9731fd5c1_zps656e146e.jpg

Michael James Kiichi starts this tag match out, and as we can see, his fast kicks and punches confound the heck out of the bigger and slower Dozer Smith and Pete Roach. Still, that's not enough for him to overcome the size advantage, as Knuckles moves away from a dropkick and tags Dozer in, who, with Roach, dominates Kiichi from the third to fifth minute. DaVE's one man officiating crew Shane Stones doesn't see it, but JD Morgan finally makes his entrance at around 5:20, having had enough and simply walked in the ring without tagging. Seeing this, Kiichi walks out and storms back to the locker room, leaving Morgan to get double-teamed by the Road Hoggz, and eventually beaten with a Stay of Execution from the man formerly known exclusively as Knuckles.

WINNER - Road Hoggz in 7:14

ANGLE - Campbell Rants About Caulfield (63/C)

Dawn the Cheerleader's next interview subject is Ash Campbell, who continues prepping for his face turn by putting Chris Caulfield over as a "certified hardcore legend" and thanking him for being his handpicked challenger for the DaVE title in tonight's main event. Campbell continues to speak heelishly, saying that "my dad Nemesis is still the biggest name to ever come out of the original DaVE" and that "you can take three Chris Caulfields and you still won't come up with one Nemesis." He also says he's got the bloodlines and the talent to pull off an upset over Caulfield, "so you better be prepared, Mr. Hardcore American. You may have gotten more than you bargained..."

ANGLE - Campbell and Kiichi Argue (39/D-)

The interview is still ongoing when Ash Campbell is distracted by the sound of Michael James Kiichi whining and complaining to Jessie about all the things he's being asked to do for his own good. Campbell calls Kiichi a "whiney little punk-ass from 'Frisco" who should put all that "urchin nonsense" behind him and move forward in the new year. Speaking in a gentler tone, Campbell hints at how he dropped his old gimmick, saying that he used to "eat like a pig and skip practice to hang out with the artists at the coffee shop", only to end up as a low man on "two, count that two factions." Kiichi replies by shoving Campbell, and if not for Jessie stepping in between both men, this surely would have degenerated into a brawl between a face-turning-heel and a heel-turning-face.

ANGLE - Kobe Promo (48/D)

With Koshiro Ino and Ota accompanying him, Magnum Kobe enters the ring ahead of his match against Matt Sparrow, rapping in near-Engrish and yelling "COMING TO AMERICA, B----!!!!" at some fans in the front row. He has the following words to say about his opponent for the evening, Matt Sparrow.

Kobe - Machoooo Sparrohhhhhh...they call you the Birduh-brain...you fry on top rope in original DaVE and fry like a bird...but Magnum Kobe crip your wings in ring and dance on your carrion karkusshhhhh!!!

Azaria - What the hell is he saying, Kyle? A "carrion carcass"?

Rhodes - I don't think English is his first language, Jason.

Kobe - I hear you roud and creeh, Rhodes and Azariahhhh. Magnum Kobe come to America not to learn English, but to teach puroresu...AMERICAN STY-LEEEEEEE!!!! (does a hip-hop style dance in the ring) What's the matter wichoo announcers, can't-uh bust a move like Magnum Kobe? (pauses, as Ino whispers something to him) Again, my name is Magnum Kobe. And a WINNER...IS MEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Matt Sparrow (w/Chloe Dean) vs Magnum Kobe (w/Koshiro Ino and Ota) (48/D)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/1aa1adea-40fe-4b53-b32f-e3b1746b24fd_zpscfcde323.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/c6118693-9d15-4eba-b501-750de97e4afe_zpsba99648e.jpg

Would Magnum Kobe be able to turn Matt Sparrow into a "carrion carcass" in the ring? For a moment, the match is open, with Sparrow landing the Bird Brain Buster at around three minutes into the match. But thanks to the interference of Ota, and Koshiro Ino (who leaves the announce table to help with the distractions), Sparrow's offense is short-lived, and he finds himself tapping out of the Magnum Deathlock as the rapping Japanese superstar extends his winning streak to three after some early losses that followed his SWF debut.

WINNER - Kobe in 5:48

ANGLE - Above and Below Beat Down on Sound and Silence (24/E-)

(OOC - Should have included Caulfield and Ino in here. Booooo.)

As Magnum Kobe celebrates his win over Matt Sparrow (with Ota and Koshiro Ino by his side), the three are overwhelmed by Above and Below - Emerald Angel and Hell Monkey - who get the crowd excited with a quick beatdown on the three villains! Ino's power and size soon swings the favor towards Team Puroresu, but Chris Caulfield equalizes things and we soon have the loose alliance of Caulfield/Above and Below standing victorious over Team Puroresu, hinting that we might see more WLW crossover matches between the four cruiserweights in this feud, and maybe a blow-off match between Caulfield and Ino - Ino, after all, kept ranting from the announce table about how Caulfield preferred to defend his belt against Ash Campbell on tonight's main event.

ANGLE - Hannah Seduces Donnie J (55/D+)

Tonight's semi-main event shall feature Donnie J up against John Anderson, and it looks like Anderson's manager Hannah has a plan to "soften" Donnie up before the match - making out with him on a couch backstage. Donnie J seems to have a hard time turning Hannah's charms down, and a few seconds later, Hannah's top is fully unbuttoned (due to her "very conservative" leanings, her back is to the camera) and Donnie J has taken his shirt off. The two shrink back, however, when Carlos Ray Batch strolls in and reprimands them both for their very public display of affection. As Hannah buttons her shirt and leaves, Donnie J remains seated on the couch...only to receive a text message from Hannah asking to meet her somewhere more private. He then shakes his head and walks off, ending the angle as the show heads into a commercial.

Remmy Skye (w/Chloe Dean) vs El Duque (40/D-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/70772905-ee1d-4040-8f96-f9797eb29d2c_zps441940e1.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/11cabc49-f012-41fd-9ab2-d66515410c9e_zps2ee5288e.jpg

After starting out with a strong enough push, pretend Spanish royalty El Duque appears to be keeping the gates over at DaVE's cruiserweight division. Former uber-jabroni Remmy Skye, on the other hand, could be primed for bigger things in 2014, as he controls most of the match, making basic moves like an armdrag takedown/armbar look special as he gazes at the camera with a glazed, almost drugged-out expression. Though an Elduquerana gives the ersatz duke a good chance to win it, Skye counters the Duque Buster at close to seven minutes, lands a DDT on El Duque, and finishes him with the Skye Diver.

WINNER - Skye in 7:09

Donnie J (w/BJ O'Neill) vs John Anderson (w/Hannah) (62/C)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9718431e-d820-4446-82a6-7ebfa92fd7ed_zps9566a2ae.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/eaa79e78-5ad3-4f2b-81df-161f61df5b48_zps2700208a.jpg

Playing on the earlier angle with Hannah, Donnie J seems to be slower than he usually is, though he has his share of high spots and a nice superplex on John Anderson at 3:20 that gives him his best chance of scoring an upset. Still, the theme remains the same - not only is Donnie distracted, he's also tired...and you know what that means. After Anderson puts on a suplex clinic from the fourth to sixth minute, Donnie J gets another chance to win, finding his second wind after a jumping clothesline. He then courageously rallies back and is preparing to land his Death in Venice Beach finisher...when Hannah wags her finger from outside the ring and blows some kisses to the ex-Fly Boy. That allows Anderson to sneak up and finish Donnie with the Clear Conscience, as Hannah jumps up and down excitedly while laughing like a mad woman. "Truly, a very weird couple," quips Jason Azaria as Anderson and Hannah celebrate the win.

WINNER - Anderson in 8:37

ANGLE - Campbell Gets Ready - 35/E

Chris Caulfield © vs Ash Campbell - DaVE Title Match (57/D+)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/e6c44042-e358-46c6-8dbe-4455d234753c_zps13a09a71.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/7322ed2a-9347-4a71-b417-701bdf8860f6_zpsac8f0aa6.jpg

"You better believe it, SWF Galaxy...DaVE is here!", shouts Jason Azaria as he litters this match with Chris Caulfield and Nemesis "little facts" from the days of the original DaVE. Some fans, however, seem less impressed by the match and unable to believe that one-time jobber to the stars Ash Campbell was Caulfield's handpicked title challenger for the evening. But Campbell makes it a competitive match as the Hardcore American calls the proceedings; as this is a hardcore match, weapons are used liberally, and Campbell even shows some cruiser skills by landing a Shooting Star Press on Caulfield, who is laying outside the ring at around 8:50. Both men make it back to the ring before Stones can count them out, and Campbell continues controlling the latter part of the match...until a missed Ash 2 Ash attempt allows Caulfield to take advantage and set a vulnerable Campbell up for the Danger Drop! Caulfield wins, but it's not like Campbell didn't give his 110 percent in the ring against the tried-and-tested veteran.

WINNER - Caulfield in 11:26. Chris Caulfield is STILL the DaVE Champion.

Overall Grade - 67/C+

SWF Uprising Rating - 1.02

Thirdy's Thoughts: Post-Shows OOC

- We're now at the halfway point of our prediction game for January, and what do we have here? We've got DOTM winner flaviooooo seizing the lead, mainly by predicting When Hell Freezes Over perfectly! It's still quite close, with TheAwesomeBatman101 at second and kieranforthewin at third, and we've still got a good six cards remaining to predict, so anything can happen. :)

1. flavioooo - 36/41, 88% (+10/10, 9/11, +1)

2. TheAwesomeBatman101 - 34/41, 83% (+7/10, 10/11, +1)

3. kieranforthewin - 42/53, 79% (+5/10, 9/11, +1)

4. w4lru5 - 23/32, 72%

5. KnowYourEnemy - 23/33, 70% (+6/10, 7/11, +1)

6. Psycho Sam - 35/53, 66% (+5/10, 9/11)

7. Midnightnick - 18/32, 64% (+7/10, 8/11, +1)

- Wow. That was one heel-heavy PPV. Counting the pre-show matches and the surprise Taylor vs Hawkins match, the heels won nine out of eleven matches. I had actually planned for Rich Money to go over in the Battle of the Brands, and if he had won, you would have had the entire PPV, excluding the pre-show, with the heels winning their matches!

- Yes, I decided to have Valiant drop the North American title to Bryan Vessey, ending his quietly impressive NA reign at six months. In his hometown. OUCH. But with Valiant's popularity at 80-81, it's about time he gets a bona fide main event push.

- As for old man Vessey, think of it as creative giving him a midcard belt as consolation for all those years in TCW where he didn't win any title in singles competition, with Cornell, Hawkins and RDJ holding TCW's World title for most of those years. That said, he will likely be a transitional champ at this point in his career.

- Still having difficulty getting a strong main event on Uprising/Uprising Presents: DaVE. I think it's because I've got so many matches involving guys whose popularity is 40 and below, making the crowd really cold and apathetic once the main event is on. I did kinda expect a lower grade than usual, though, when booking Caulfield vs Campbell.

- Poor Jason (Bully) Benrubi, Zeus Maximillion and Acid. They're on the DaVE roster but have yet to appear on TV. In Acid's case, he's just returned from injury. I hope to have something for those men in the coming shows. Benrubi hardly has any popularity in the US, but his high hardcore stats make him an interesting prospect for DaVE.

- And yes, I am quite high (no pun intended) on Ash Campbell, same with Michael James Kiichi (whom I renamed since I keep thinking hardcore country when I type the name "Mikey James" :p ) and Remmy Skye. They're all in their mid-late 20s, and are due for bigger things in 2014.

<p><strong>OOC</strong> - I'm targeting Supreme TV for Tuesday or Wednesday, so do stay tuned for that...but before that, we've got one news article on the SWF's latest attempts to raid TCW's roster (though I am aware you can't get Joel Bryant as he's head booker)...and the latest negative backstage incident.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:12px;">SWF NEWS - BRYANT TO REMAIN AT TCW, HILL CONSIDERED AS DEV TRAINER, EMERALD ANGEL ARGUES WITH FANS</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

By Pro Wrestling Hits Staff</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">

Monday, January 20, 2014</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Reports suggest that TCW head booker <strong>Joel Bryant</strong>, whose contract expires in February, is sticking it out in Hollyweird as he remains "committed to Tommy Cornell's product" and "willing to stick it out with Total (Championship Wrestling) through thick and thin."</p><p> </p><p>

"Yes, the SWF has made some overtures to Joel," said a Pro Wrestling Hits source, "but Joel has made it clear that he's committed to Tommy Cornell's product in TCW. He and people such as Brent (Hill) and Bob (Robert Oxford) symbolize what TCW is supposed to be about - an anti-SWF, where technical wrestling has precedence over risque storylines and flashy showmanship. Joel is willing to stick it out with Total through thick and thin." Reportedly, Bryant, 42, was being eyed not to add to the SWF's gigantic roster per se, but rather to serve as a developmental trainer at RIPW or TWL. <strong>Brent Hill</strong>, who's a year older at 43, has also been considered as a trainer, and though our source described him as someone who epitomizes TCW as an "anti-SWF", it looks like Hollyweird isn't interested in renewing his contract.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/TEW%202013/EmeraldAngel_zps6f133e33.jpg</span></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

In other developments, fast-rising Japanese cruiserweight <strong>Emerald Angel</strong> of the DaVE brand has reportedly been raising a ruckus in the locker room, following an altercation he had with a young autograph-seeker prior to yesterday's Uprising taping. According to those who were present at the scene, Angel, who was jetlagged at the time he was mobbed (he had come from an WLW show in Japan), told the 15-year-old boy that he wasn't interested in signing autographs, and when the youngster told him that "I dig your style, man," Angel told him to "f--- off." An argument then ensued between fan and wrestler, as the fan's father had gotten involved in things, though security broke up the verbal tussle before things really got ugly. Angel was reportedly given a firm reprimand by management for his actions, as the talented, yet eccentric and temperamental star remains a polarizing presence in the locker room.</p>

OOC - Some slight delays here as I've been under the weather for the past two days, and very, very lethargic. But we've got High Stakes up right now, and the weekend should see me posting a backstage segment or two and Elite, with Uprising to follow on Monday. :D

SWF High Stakes

Young Arena (Iowa, Midwest)

ANGLE - McCallum Promo (76/B-)

Instead of the usual Supreme TV recap, we get High Stakes authority figure/host Rory McCallum in the ring, talking about the next stage of the competition, where matches are now intra-team instead of inter-team. Immunity points for a win, as usual, will net the winning rookie one point, but mentors from opposing teams will still face off in the final match of the evening, with the winning mentor getting three immunity points for his team. With that said, McCallum announces tonight's matchups - Americans Marc Speed vs Davie Renluenn, and foreigners Gino Montero vs Hugh De Aske, and El Mitico vs Swoop McCarthy. Erik Strong, despite placing fourth in the last Mentor's Poll, draws a bye, which leads to...

ANGLE - Strong and McCallum Argue (60/C)

...Strong insisting that he should be wrestling tonight.

Strong - What do you mean by "draw a bye", Rory, brother? Are you saying bye-bye to Erik Strong? Well, lemme tel you somethin', brother, Strongamania doesn't take a vacation! Strongamania doesn't draw byes, Jack, it just keeps comin' atcha like gangbusters, and when the SWF Galaxy gets a load of these less-than-20-inch anacondas, they know that Strongamania is like a runaway child, running wild! Ooooohhhhh...BROTHER.

Being that Strong is a comedy babyface, the argument isn't anything serious, and the crowd at Waterloo, Iowa's Young Arena actually loves his antics. In jest, Jerry Eisen warns the fans at home not to engage in any "brother" drinking games, lest they risk passing out from drunkenness before the first match of the evening.

El Mitico (w/Elmo Benson) vs Swoop McCarthy (w/Edd Stone) (9/F)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/34410db2-2bc1-47a9-b3f3-d6e2e8626691_zps0deddbf1.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/0249b9b0-5c59-41d9-839f-8615c72ae93d_zps95209327.jpg

For the Waterloo fans, this is one match that lasts five minutes too long - they don't seem too enthused to see two hitherto unknown young men complement each other in terms of style - El Mitico's high-flying lucha and Swoop McCarthy's powerhouse brawling. Katie Cameron and Jerry Eisen don't understand why Peter Michaels keeps comparing Swoop to "Remo with microphone skills and a better work ethic", as Swoop isn't that athletic (though not bad in that area), and his party boy gimmick doesn't really suggest hard work. Swoop wins this one with a Running Powerswoop at close to 5:30.

WINNER - Swoop in 5:28. Swoop McCarthy/Team Int'l gets one immunity point.

Marc Speed (w/Chris Caulfield) vs Davie Renluenn (w/Sammy Bach) (39/D-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/1fb4ed91-6e60-4e18-a790-e6e6adeca541_zps64e4a958.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9461d8d0-672b-4ca3-b37b-32f4a5c356de_zps84ea4e71.jpg

"Be in orbit, Daddy-O, because I'm willing to bet the '50s diner that Davie 'Dutch' Renluenn is gonna win this!" Sammy Bach, who's guesting on commentary, appears to be patient with his rather inept rookie, who does his best to cheat his way to a win, but ends up tapping out of a Marc Speed Cross Arm Breaker. Relative squash, with Speed getting most of the offense.

WINNER - Speed in 3:44. Marc Speed/Team USA gets one immunity point.

ANGLE - RDJ Hypes Strong (77/B-)

Backstage, Team USA captain Ricky Dale Johnson is asked by Katie Cameron about who he thinks is the most improved member of his team. RDJ says he's impressed at how his rookie, Erik Strong, has improved in the ring since Week 1, as he "can actually throw a mean Strong Arm Tactic like the real thing used to do back in the day." RDJ adds that Strong has his work cut out for him in the Keg Challenge, due to his lack of size, but he'll definitely try his best in that challenge, and "out-'brother' 'em all" in the Promo Challenge. Elmo Benson, who's also backstage, then goes into "El Mobenson" mode and reminds Cameron in that exaggerated Hispanic accent of his about El Mitico's big surprise for later.

ANGLE - High Stakes Keg Challenge (75/B-)

The High Stakes Keg Challenge is back for a third straight season, and it looks like Hugh De Aske is excited to be parrrrrrt of this challenge, yarrrrrr. De Aske tries to hijack Rory McCallum's introduction, talking about "150 pounds of gunpowdarrrrr, ye lubbers, round the ring we go!", but the Raucous One still does most of the talking, explaining in normal English that each rookie has to grab the 150-pound keg, follow the path from the start/finish line, then around the ring, then back to the start/finish line. Dropping the keg results in disqualification. The results:

1. De Aske - 12.7

2. Mitico - 13.0

3. Renluenn - 13.1

4. Montero - 13.6

5. Speed - 14.8

6. Strong - DQ

7. Swoop - DQ

Interestingly, this is the first time the Keg Challenge has been run where more than one rookie dropped the keg, and while Erik Strong tells McCallum that "you got my number, brother" when told that he spent too much time preening and posing, Swoop McCarthy and Edd Stone resent being told that they might have spent too much time partying at the bar the night before the show, hence the heavily-favored Swoop messing up.

After the challenge, the announcers confirm that it's going to be Team USA's Sammy Bach vs Team International's Elmo Benson in tonight's finale, and that it's going to be a title match for Bach's United States title.

CHALLENGE WINNER - Hugh De Aske. Hugh De Aske/Team Int'l gets two immunity points.

ANGLE - Giedroyc Hypes Mitico (80/B)

We're back from a commercial, and Katie Cameron is backstage again, interviewing Team International captain Jack Giedroyc, who says El Mitico is his choice for most improved rookie. "I can see Mitico gettin' stronger and takin' this competition very seriously, even if Elmo is, you know, that kinda guy," says Giedroyc, making reference to Elmo Benson's tendency to be goofy and light-hearted. "I can't wait till Mitico unveils that surprise Elmo's been talkin' about," Giedroyc concludes, as Peter Michaels (back at the announce table) mockingly says that that surprise better not be Mitico showing his face. "All masked wrestlers are ugly," spits Michaels as he tries to be as heelish as possible. "Why'd you think they've got those masks on, huh, Jerry? Looking at Season 2's fluke champion Masked Cougar unmasked, for instance, is akin to seeing your grandmother naked!"

ANGLE - De Aske Gets Ready (19/E-)

Gino Montero (w/Jack Giedroyc) vs Hugh De Aske (w/Koshiro Ino) (39/D-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/587b7b00-943b-4833-9a3f-7927b90b5aa7_zps71d8a751.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/4c60c7be-7b8a-43c2-a3ce-438c61982fba_zps9f156c9a.jpg

Despite the announcers warning against Hugh De Aske becoming too overconfident after his challenge win, that's exactly what happens, as he runs into a Destiny Explosion early into the match, nearly losing the match. De Aske does recover eventually, showing off a mean-looking spinebuster at one point and landing the Skull and Crossbones (to no avail, as Gino Montero kicks out), but once Montero gets back into the groove, De Aske's mentor Koshiro Ino has no choice but to blind the young Mexican second-generation star with "the white stuff" loaded in his gimmicked Japanese flag. Jez McArthuer won't stand for that, as he disqualifies De Aske and awards the match to Montero.

WINNER - Montero in 5:52 via DQ. Gino Montero/Team Int'l gets one immunity point.

ANGLE - ????? Vignette (44/D)

This is a replay of the last ????? vignette from Supreme TV, and while it's obvious the worker being hyped is none other than a repackaged Paul Huntingdon, the former "Blue Blood" is still referred to as a "mystery man" and an "enigmatic figure." Peter Michaels says he wouldn't bother to know who it is, being that Huntingdon wrestles for the Supreme brand, and that the High Stakes announce team is also the Elite announce team.

ANGLE - High Stakes Promo Challenge (33/E+)

The mechanics of the Promo Challenge are very simple - each rookie has one minute each to cut a promo on anything or anyone, and the mentors will judge them on who delivers the most convincing spiel based on his confidence, fluency and focus in delivering that promo. After the commercial break, each rookie is ranked, and here's how they fared, with topics and comments in parenthesis:

1. Swoop (Topic - Team Swoop/Comments - Swoop's bursting with confidence, with an over-the-top, yet clear delivery. One of the SWF's best on the mic, rookie or not.)

2. Mitico (Topic - Surprise/Comments - The surprise? El Mitico speaks English, he speaks it quite well, and can cut a mean promo on something as simple as the element of surprise.)

3. Strong (Topic - Strongamania/Comments - Given that he milks his Sam Strong impersonator/bastard son gimmick, this was an overkill topic, but Erik's very strong, no pun intended, on the mic.)

4. Montero (Topic - Honor/Comments - Don't mind the somewhat halting English - he makes up for that with emotion and a good understanding of what effective promos are about.)

5. Renluenn (Topic - Pink Cadillacs/Comments - A bit mumbly, too much '50s jargon, and a wrong choice of words when he closes his promo with "You guys are pink...while I'm the Cadillac.")

6. De Aske (Topic - Piracy/Comments - Yes, THAT piracy - music, movies, Torrent sites, you name it. De Aske's topic has nothing to do with wrestling, and he uses his pirate gimmick to cover up his grammatical mistakes and stammering.)

7. Speed (Topic - Defense/Comments - Speed's theme is one's defense being his best offense, and we clearly see here promo cutting is his biggest weakness - too many fillers and mumbles, Speed just looks nervous here.

Notable comments:

McCarthy - ...Who gives a damn about Team International, Team USA, teammates and all that nonsense? I only have one team here in High Stakes and the SWF, and that's Team Swoop. (camera focuses on El Mitico, Gino Montero and even heel Hugh De Aske cringing) I'm the SWF's Chosen One, and I'm the only rookie you deserve to be watching.

Mitico - ...On Week 1, you all thought I was another masked luchador who knows no English but knows a lot of moves. You thought I wear a mask 'cause I'm terrified to speak. But I surprised you, didn't I? Most surprises aren't pleasant, and when they happen in the ring to any one of you in the ring with me tonight, they can lead to victory - El Mitico victory.

Elmo Benson (w/El Mitico) vs Sammy Bach (w/Davie Renluenn) - United States Title Match (72/B-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/b53616de-3f71-4dd5-ad95-439b6e764d73_zps3ff62e53.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9ee55b97-25e6-48e0-9a3d-350c11e80cef_zpsf656d7c9.jpg

What's this...Elmo Benson in a singles match for a title? Yes, it's a bit of a surprise we're seeing a tag team specialist fight for the U.S. Title, but Benson seems to be primed for a bit of a push, as he keeps this match open and prevents it from being dominated by Sammy Bach. This match is tit-for-tat, even-Steven, both men engaging in equal amounts of high-flying offense. Benson even shows some strong selling skills, making the Bach on Your Back finisher look like it really hurts, and getting the crowd popped when he breaks it with the ropes. After a desperation DDT to counter the Adrenaline Shot, Benson fights back and nearly nails the Elation Sensation with a Shockwave from Next Year...only to miss badly, thanks to a Davie Renluenn distraction, and become vulnerable to a second Adrenaline Shot. Very entertaining match to cap off tonight's High Stakes.

WINNER - Bach in 10:01. Sammy Bach is STILL the United States Champion, and gains three immunity points for Team USA.

<p><strong>OOC</strong> - Dammit, Angel, now you got me adding more slash than I had intended to! <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> But seriously, great work with the USPW diary, just in case you're reading this!</p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, this next backstage segment isn't just slash, but also ThunderVerse crossover, with crossover character in a non-wrestling role - there's KP dating OUTSIDE of the industry! Last year, Arch had met Nancy while her band was based in Maryland (with Arch still wrestling in MAW), and it was just serendipitous that she'd returned to Iowa a few months ago. Last night's Psychedelic Garage Jobbers gig was a surprise one - with Ash and Remmy unavailable due to DaVE commitments, it was me on vocals, Cam on drums, and Man Mountain Ronnie Cahill (who'd just signed a short-term wrestling deal to serve as one of BB Colossus' victims) on lead guitar. Guitar, drums and vocals, no bass, a power trio with no bottom end. That was until Arch said he was going to introduce us to this Aussie girl living in Iowa, not far from where we were doing the house shows that week and State Fayre for Elite taping. Money calls the match and paces it with a generous helping of rest holds in the first few minutes, but by the sixth minute, we see Champion getting a window of opportunity, scoring on a running clothesline/splash combo, followed by a Papoose Piledriver and several "UGH!"'s from the Hawkeye to celebrate. Crooked ref Sam Sparrow delivers a slow, yet subtle count, and Money kicks out after two, angering Champion until Sparrow threatens him with disqualification. With Floyd Goldworthy chiming in with his own distractions, Money gets back in the game with an underhook suplex, and dominates the ninth to fourteenth minutes. This stretch is filled with shenanigans, no thanks to Goldworthy and Bruce the Giant's presence, and Sparrow letting each and every distraction or minor interference pass. With the crowd rallying behind him, Champion trades moves with Money for a bit, and while Money tries to slow him down with some rest holds, Champion breaks loose, and blasts the Moneyman with the Hawkeye Hammer at around 17:50! "By currying favor with people like my dad and his longtime lieutenant, Supreme Legend and Elite GM Christian Faith? For the likes of you two, it's not just WHAT you know, but WHOM you know." The comments are in relation to Vengeance and Ricky Dale Johnson being close friends of storyline GM Christian Faith, who, as we know, is close friends with SWF Chairman and Owner Richard Eisen. Rumors behind the scenes have long suggested Eric Eisen being responsible for Vengeance's reduced push following his extended feud with Faith, due to the real-life SWF Chief Operating Officer not being happy with 40-something workers like Vengeance, Faith and Ricky Dale Johnson (who joined the SWF in fall 2013) playing a major part in storylines. As far as this incident goes, several members of the Elite roster confirmed that the statements were not in any way part of the script. </p><p> </p><p> Later on in the evening, it was Jerry's turn to suffer from verbal diarrhea, as he let loose with some apparently unscripted comments about Bruce the Giant's former employer USPW, comments that former SWF booker Peter Michaels reportedly felt were uncalled for. "They may not have known how to use a Bruce the Giant, but Rich Money sure does!", said Jerry. "And that's as a weapon of mass destruction." USPW put Bruce in only one match in 2013, and that was in a pay-per-view match against the much smaller, and equally aging Freddie Datsun; Bruce lost the match quite convincingly.</p><p> </p><p> As it was Jerry Eisen who created the new backstage rules following Michaels' controversial resignation as head booker (a job which also covers talent relations), rules that supposedly forbid shoot comments, it's no surprise why the Elite locker room is up in arms as of the moment.</p>

OOC - And now it's time to thank Slayen for his latest alt - Thomas Morgan as a Disco Stud! :D Masked Lenny Brown is actually one of the CVFP masked males; he's wearing a mask as he'll be doing jobs as a member of the Elite brand, under his own name.

Yup, Brandon James appears to be on his way to turning face, but I haven't actually turned him yet. And I'm writing it to be part of the Eisen brothers' plan (being that the Klubb was mostly heel in 2013), though we shall see how that turns out in the coming weeks, in terms of storylines. ;)

SWF Uprising

Lancaster Event Center (Nebraska, Midwest)

Monday, January 27, 2014

PRE-SHOW:

None.

UPRISING:

ANGLE - Supreme Rewind - Gilmore vs Remo vs Frehley (82/B)

As a video recaps the goings-on from the last Supreme TV, we hear for the first time that The 'Hood's vicious beatdown on Tom "Angry" Gilmore will force the former SWF Title holder out of action for one to two weeks, though he should be healthy in time for Nothing to Lose and be able to compete in the Supreme Nothing to Lose Ladder Match for the Blue Briefcase.

Alex Clark and Glenn Casey vs 100% Pure - Supreme (w/Richie Pangrazzio Jr.) (55/D+)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9b6b8236-2ea7-4bdf-ab3b-7ea98b980ae0_zps1e114266.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/56600dc2-8518-4577-bd09-ca7ca38ff311_zps33a4fa73.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/fc30cba1-b762-40c5-9bb8-5f42f158a0c1_zpsdb3e8586.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/261c9c65-e192-410c-88da-78da3b3e1e05_zps54a42388.jpg

James Prudence joins Jason Azaria and Kyle Rhodes at the announce table for the Supreme/Elite midcard matches, and he spends some time ranting about refusing to change for anybody, not the least two holier-than-thou straight-edgers like 100% Pure. This match, though, is 100% Squash - Spencer Spade shines with a Straight-Edge Stunner (formerly the Supreme Stunner) on Glenn Casey, who appears to have ditched the hillbilly get-up and started teaming with other jobbers apart from his kayfabe cousin Ben, such as Alex Clark.

WINNERS - 100% Pure in 3:42

ANGLE - Prudence Beaten Down by 100% Pure (48/D)

After the match, Prudence decides to spite 100% Pure by lighting up a cigarette at ringside. Squeeky McClean pulls the cigarette out of Prudence's mouth, stomps on it, and with Richie Pangrazzio Jr. cheering his charges on, the straight-edge duo of McClean and Spencer Spade assaults Prudence until his partner Frederique Garcia runs to the rescue, sending the three teetotalers scampering off like the cowardly heels they are. Prudence, despite being dazed, returns to the announce table to call the rest of the Supreme/Elite fillers.

Cowboy Soul vs Sons of Sam (w/The Zim) - Elite (34/E+)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/fccaef32-3f53-44ae-a7a5-c30a054745cd_zps250c2d12.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/cfa5da87-40b8-45c5-b58a-e2b097715267_zps25db0155.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/e27d4756-c611-437f-a3fc-769a8492594d_zpsea016135.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/519bb444-b786-4ed5-80b9-55d75081f1af_zpsa2689856.jpg

Due to Cowboy Soul's place at the bottom rungs of the Elite card, The Zim's presence as cornerman seems almost optional, as he joins Jason, Kyle and Jimmy for commentary. "Those two geeks spend more time on their backs than your average female porn star! BOOOO-YEAAAAHHHH!!!!!", quips The Zim about Cowboy Soul, and that's all you need to know about this match and its outcome. But if you do need to know more, Greg Keith won it with a Proton Lock on KP Avatar.

WINNERS - Sons of Sam in 4:11

Darryl Devine vs Karl Thompson (w/Kurt Laramee and Primus Allen) - Supreme (52/D)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9fa59465-e4d1-481c-83da-b1c9cc2ee6e4_zpsa7cd266b.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/68f8556d-8bfa-4a7e-a17d-adf5aa784f4a_zpsb3a14808.jpg

While it looks like Des Davids may be headed for another feud after coming out on the losing end of his feud against Steve Frehley and The 'Hood, former Man Unda Pressure Darryl Devine looks to continue beefing with the kayfabe black supremacists, this time rejoining Tom Gilmore's corner. Devine has the upper hand for most of the match thanks to his quickness, and is able to land a Devine Dream Drop on Thompson, but wins via DQ when Kurt Laramee and Primus Allen run in for a save.

WINNER - Devine in 6:07 via DQ

ANGLE - Devine Beaten Down 3-on-1 (37/D-)

Of course The 'Hood wants more than simply preventing Devine from winning clean; they want to beat the living crap out of him like they did to Tom Gilmore on the last Supreme TV! The announcers are clearly disgusted by The 'Hood's unwarranted attack on Devine, and they make the beatdown fast and furious, wrapping it up by flashing the Black Power salute in unison and leaving the ring to a booing audience.

Krustacean Kirk (w/Red Snapper) vs Rodney Ekuma (w/Ms. Emma Chase and J. Gordon Reed) - Elite (47/D)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/c958dda7-2031-41cd-a4ac-58a4c7c1249c_zpse32c08a2.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/73a7a879-4672-4cdf-9178-2b937b9bed26_zps8812b4db.jpg

Rumor has it that Rodney Ekuma's poor conditioning is making him a prime candidate for a demotion to developmental, but for the meantime, he's being built up as a vital cog in The Chase Agency, which may or may not be incorporated within The New Money Army before the month is over. Ekuma stays strong against Krustacean Kirk in a battle of High Stakes alumni, but gets disqualified after running afoul of referee Ric Young and refusing to let go of his chokehold.

WINNER - Kirk in 5:26 via DQ

UPRISING PRESENTS - DaVE:

ANGLE - Elite Rewind - Nicky Champion, Rich Money and Brandon James (82/B)

The Elite Rewind mainly features scenes from the number one contender match pitting Nicky Champion and Rich Money against each other, a match that had become a no-contest affair when Bruce the Giant destroyed Champion, and later on an interfering Brandon James, the latter of whom appeared to be selling better than he ever had in the past. James also features prominently in another part of the Rewind, rebutting Champion's introductory promo, then confirming Jack Giedroyc as the first man out of six to take part in the Elite Nothing to Lose Ladder Match in February.

ANGLE - Jobbers Rant About Colossus (23/E)

Starting tonight, BB Colossus will be fed two jobbers instead of the usual one, and at first, the announcers think it's Robbie Retro headed to the ring, due to the background music - "Jive Talkin'" by the Bee Gees. Instead, the fans get "Lincoln, Nebraska-based art students Tommy Throwback and Incognito Brother", the latter of whom is actually Lenny Brown back from developmental, wearing an orange mask with a fake Afro. Tommy Throwback is actually way too old to be a college student, being 39-year-old indie veteran Thomas Morgan in real life. The two "art college buddies," as Jason Azaria calls them, try to rile up Colossus by telling him to "JIVE, TURKEY!", and it appears as if the duo's '70s buzzwords only serve to make Colossus angrier. "I bet those art students' combined weight is less than that of BB Colossus," says Kyle Rhodes. He may be right.

Incognito Brother - Lemme tell you something, BB Colossus! Incognito Brother and his amigo Tommy Throwback are alright, outasite, DY-NO-MITE! gonna boogie-oogie-woogie over your 450-pound stuffed jive turkey body all night long, baby!

Incognito Brother and Tommy Throwback vs BB Colossus - Handicap Match (24/E)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/2c46e422-e3d0-446e-90b9-d96b77fffa61_zps8af08ecd.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/1004ab66-8477-4ed2-a8ea-2f327c3491de_zpscc31c1c3.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/8bf7767e-f102-4745-b192-ddd3ab4ae2f6_zpse8b0ce25.jpg

In order to underscore how dominating BB Colossus is, he finishes Tommy Throwback off with a Colossus Avalanche, and Shane Stones officially ends the match with a three-count. He then demands that Stones count once again after flattening Incognito Brother with another Colossus Avalanche. To wit, Colossus is 11-0 in singles action in the SWF, but Jason Azaria advertises him as "12-0 televised" due to his insistence on pinning both jobbers in the same match, and "23-0 with house shows included." Hey, at least Azaria's (almost) honest and not randomly pulling numbers out of the chocolate factory.

WINNER - Colossus in 1:05 and 1:20.

ANGLE - Colossus Destroys Incognito Brother and Throwback (60/C)

Azaria - My God, Kyle, BB Colossus just Aegalaeus Pressed those art students way back to 1976!

ANGLE - Sound and Silence Beaten Down by Above and Below (23/E)

Back in the locker room, Magnum Kobe is practicing his English rapping in front of fellow Team Puroresu member Ota, when Hell Monkey and Emerald Angel approach the two, obviously unimpressed by Kobe's attempts at sounding like "American G." Kobe reacts by acting like even more like a DB, rapping louder to the point where his grammar is even more off than it normally is, which causes Above and Below to assault Sound and Silence while their DaVE main event allies are away! Above and Below emerges triumphant in the brawl, as the announcers hype up tonight's main event - a six-man tag team match between Chris Caulfield/Above and Below and Team Puroresu.

ANGLE - Jett Rants About Acid (41/D-)

Jacob Jett is actually one of the better mic guys in the DaVE lineup, and Jason Azaria takes advantage of this as he interviews the "Amazing" High Stakes Season 2 product about his upcoming match against Acid. Jett puts Acid over as one of the reasons why the original DaVE was so fun, but calls him a waste of God-given talent who could have been part of a major promotion so much earlier, had he not been "tempted by his personal demons." Considering Acid's unsavory reputation outside of the ring, this is a worked shoot, and one that may build towards an Acid vs Jett feud in the coming weeks.

Jacob Jett vs Acid (50/D)

Jason Azaria and Kyle Rhodes now have Shooting Star champ Bobby Bruce joining them as guest commentator, and Bruce says he'll be calling all the cruiserweight matches as he scouts for a suitable opponent at Nothing to Lose, someone worthy of bringing the Shooting Star title match back to the main PPV and not the pre-show. Acid and Jacob Jett engage in quite an exciting display of aerial action, with neither man having a distinct edge, but Bruce's distractions and frequent "short" jokes from the announce table throw Jett off and allow Acid to pick up the win with an Acid Rain Bomb. Acid, however, doesn't seem appreciative of the assist, flipping Bruce off as he storms back to the locker room following the win.

WINNER - Acid in 5:43

ANGLE - Campbell and Kiichi Rant About Road Hoggz (44/D)

Backstage, Ash Campbell and Michael James Kiichi appear to be in good terms with each other, as Kiichi says he's ready to run those Road Hoggz off the road and put an end to their bully biker act. Campbell tries reminding Kiichi of how Dozer Smith fell in with the wrong crowd upon being drafted to DaVE, preventing him from making the fresh start Campbell did after their spell with The Eisen Entourage. "I know, I know," says Kiichi, rather dismissively. "I was a freakin' sea urchin before the brand split, so you didn't have it as bad as I did." The two agree to work together against the Hoggz, and exchange fist bumps as they prepare to head to the ring.

ANGLE - Benrubi Destroys Maximillion Set (39/D-)

Finally, we're seeing Zeus Maximillion once again, and while he's using his more familiar ring name now (and not Maximillion "Maxie" DeLarge), the gimmick remains similar, but not exactly the same. Maximillion is still a director (though no longer an adult film director), and it looks like he's now trying to shoot a gladiator-type movie with the muscular Jason Benrubi as lead villain. After Benrubi shows off some well below-average sword work against another gladiator, Maximillion yells "CUT!" and chews Benrubi out for his substandard play-fighting. This causes him to turn into a raging madman, as he punches his fist through one of the props, bodyslams one of the stage hands, and proceeds to wreck a good part of Maximillion's set. "YOU'LL NEVER WORK HERE AGAIN!!!!", yells Maximillion, but that's all he gets to say as Benrubi piledrives him onto his director's chair before walking off and leaving everyone on the set in a state of shock.

Ash Campbell and Michael James Kiichi (w/Jessie) vs Road Hoggz (44/D)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/7322ed2a-9347-4a71-b417-701bdf8860f6_zpsac8f0aa6.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9b7f16d4-1aa3-4872-9e5a-50ca09e1f8ea_zpsf2714fab.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/9eef35b1-03ea-4a69-8589-0915cdba98b2_zps5c6a7b57.jpghttp://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/908618c6-92cb-4ffb-a072-35e9731fd5c1_zps656e146e.jpg

It's time for those contrasting styles once again, as the brawling Road Hoggz take on the fast and exciting duo of Ash Campbell and Michael James Kiichi. Kiichi makes full use of his martial arts arsenal, and unlike previous tag matches, he seems to be working well with Campbell and "maybe ready to accept Jessie's plans for him as one of DaVE's rising young stars," in Kyle Rhodes' words. Kiichi nearly puts Pete Roach away with a Scything Side Kick at 3:10 (Dozer Smith breaks up the cover), and after getting double-teamed for the next couple minutes, the hot tag results in Campbell getting the win with an Ash 2 Ash/Shooting Star Press combo on Roach.

WINNERS - Campbell and Kiichi in 7:05

ANGLE - Campbell Beaten Down By Kiichi (36/D-)

The duo of Ash Campbell and Michael James Kiichi has won it, and at first, it seems like Jessie's got herself a new tag team to manage. Unfortunately, Kiichi suddenly snaps and legsweeps Campbell as the two have their hands raised up in victory, and proceeds to kick him repeatedly in the ribs! Jessie tries to intervene, but gets angrily pushed aside as referee Shane Stones tries his hand at stopping the beatdown. Stones, however, is belted with a Scything Side Kick, and it's only the arrival of DaVE GM Carlos Ray Batch that prevents things from getting any worse than they are. The Lincoln, Nebraska crowd is evidently angry at the newly-turned Kiichi, as his heel turn was a complete success. Likewise, Campbell's face turn was also a complete success.

Matt Sparrow (w/Chloe Dean and Remmy Skye) vs El Duque (47/D-)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/1aa1adea-40fe-4b53-b32f-e3b1746b24fd_zpscfcde323.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/11cabc49-f012-41fd-9ab2-d66515410c9e_zps2ee5288e.jpg

We've still got Bobby Bruce sitting in on commentary (and drinking whiskey, so as to build up on the minor storyline started at When Hell Freezes Over), and he doesn't look impressed either by El Duque (too old, "probably" not a real Spaniard) or Matt Sparrow (doesn't take anything seriously). El Duque, who seems to be more of a gatekeeper as the first cruiserweight chosen by DaVE in the brand draft, sells quite well for CZCW vet Sparrow at first, but proves that selling has never been his strong point, kipping up almost immediately after Sparrow drops him with a handspring moonsault. That helps set up a flurry of offense that culminates with the Duque Buster; Remmy Skye tries running in, but it's too late, as Shane Stones counts one, two, three to give El Duque his first win of the new year.

WINNER - El Duque in 7:26

ANGLE - Skye Challenges Bobby Bruce (28/E)

After he and Chloe Dean help Matt Sparrow up to his feet, Remmy Skye confronts Bobby Bruce at the announce table, and asks him if he plans to waste all that time guest-announcing and scouting potential opponents when he's already got a worthy one standing right in front of him. "Remmy Skye? Same Remmy Skye who hardly ever won in 2013?", says Bruce, unimpressed by the challenge. Skye, who seems to be ditching his old goofy '60s-influenced stoner gimmick, waxes philosophical about the past being an inaccurate barometer for the future, noting that 2014 will be the "Year of the Psyche Out." Disappointed that he wasn't able to find anyone worthy to face him for the Shooting Star title at Nothing to Lose, Bruce angrily walks out of the announce table, only to drop Skye with a Bobby Blitzkrieg Bop before returning to the locker room.

Zeus Maximillion vs John Anderson (w/Hannah) (62/C)

http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/a07601f6-f447-422b-8a61-8fe30ef4aa05_zps328a80be.jpg vs http://i294.photobucket.com/albums/mm87/endshiftresign/SWF%20Small/eaa79e78-5ad3-4f2b-81df-161f61df5b48_zps2700208a.jpg

This is, as pointed out by Jason Azaria, a battle between the two men responsible for turning the kid-friendly Hero Squad into the salacious Eros Squad, and compared to their first meeting, the newly-renamed Zeus Maximillion seems more competitive against Devil's Advocate John Anderson. Maximillion makes use of a variety of power moves, but appears to be closest to defeating Anderson with a torture rack at around five minutes into the match. A Hannah distraction causes him to let go of the submission, and that swings things back in Anderson's favor. After a couple more minutes of back-and-forth action, Maximillion appears to be close to an upset, having just side suplexed Anderson and followed it up with a leg drop, but his disgruntled charge Jason Benrubi suddenly makes an appearance, leaping the guardrail and yelling "I WANT MY MONEY!!!! ZEUS NO PAY ME!!!!" at Maximillion. That allows Anderson to take advantage of the distraction and land a Clear Conscience on the pretend-director to pick up the win.

WINNER - Anderson in 8:44

ANGLE - Kobe Rants About Caulfield (61/C)

As Team Puroresu enters the ring for their main event match against Chris Caulfield and Above and Below, Magnum Kobe once again steals the thunder from stable leader Koshiro Ino, beatboxing and rapping in his own inimitable style. After yet another crude rap number, Kobe asks the Lincoln, Nebraska crowd whom their favorite "footbore" team is and whom they think will win the "Super Bore", the Denver Broncos or the Seattle Seahawks.

Kobe - You are hearing Magnum Kobe right, SWF Galaxy, I say "footbore," because only in America do sports take on diffuh-rent-uh meanings, like ice hockey become hockey and football (this time pronouncing it correctly) become soccer! But do not mistake me, I LOVE AMERICA, and it is great honor to teach PURORESU AMERICAN STYLE and show that it much better than the wrestling of so-called Hardcore American Chris Corefilled. It much better than the showman crap of Hairmonkey and Emerald-uh Angel. Puroresu no about chairs and kendo sticks and other weapons, it about PURE WRESTLING and not that street fighting nonsense that make original DaVE great! We here to make DaVE the PURORESU BRAND and to make PURORESU the only type wrestling here in the rand that I love, AMERICA! (pauses) Again, my name is Magnum Kobe. And a WINNER...IS MEEEEEEEE!!!!!

Chris Caulfield and Above and Below vs Team Puroresu (64/C)

If anything else, Chris Caulfield's three-man unit showcases different styles in one team - traditional American hardcore brawling from Caulfield, high-flying Japanese Junior action from Emerald Angel, and stiff martial arts/puroresu from real-life fourth-degree karate black belter Hell Monkey. (The fact that Hell Monkey is one of the best "pure puro" guys out there makes Magnum Kobe's earlier comments quite ironic.) Caulfield's team starts out quickly, with Emerald Angel going for an impressive moonsault on Kobe that results in a kick-out, and Hell Monkey's Hell Fire Kick landing on Ota, which leads to a cover but gets broken up by Koshiro Ino. Team Puroresu, however, gets going at the fourth minute, thanks to some illegal double-teaming from Kobe and Ota, and by the seventh minute, Emerald Angel counters an Ino-Plex with a German Suplex on the considerably larger Ino, getting the crowd excited and setting up a comeback for the babyface team at the eighth minute.

As the match reaches the 12:00 mark, the heels are in control again, as Kobe distracts Shane Stones by trying to step in and Ota flies off the top rope with a flying dropkick on Hell Monkey, as Ino holds him in place. Ino, who is the legal man, goes for the Kobra's Bite, but Hell Monkey kicks out and launches a babyface comeback at around 13:30, suddenly no-selling Ino's moves! After a stiff short-arm clothesline, Hell Monkey tags Caulfield in for what should lead to a Danger Drop on Magnum Kobe (whom Ino had tagged in), but Ino puts his gimmicked Japanese flag, using that dreaded white powder from the hollowed-out bottom of the flagpole to blind Caulfield and allow Kobe to pin him with the Kobe Bomb! The crowd cannot believe it as Stones pounds his fist on the mat and Team Puroresu emerges with the tainted win in this ongoing feud.

WINNERS - Team Puroresu in 15:49

ANGLE - Mystery Man Stalks Ino, Gets Arrested (64/C)

Remember the mystery man in the trenchcoat who had dropped in to attack BB Colossus before disappearing quickly and avoiding a beatdown from the gigantic monster heel? He's back as Uprising prepares to go off the air, seemingly preparing to attack Team Puroresu leader Koshiro Ino, but before he can make his move, DaVE GM Carlos Ray Batch appears with two security guards! Batch shouts "That's him!" as he points excitedly at the trenchcoat-wearing man, whose face we have yet to see, and the security officers arrest the man as Uprising closes for the evening and the announcers express hopes of finding out just who this mysterious, dark character is...or if he really belongs in the DaVE lineup.

Overall Grade - 68/C+

SWF Uprising Rating - 1.02

How did you get Magnum Kobe and Emerald Angel to sign with SWF? or are they on PPA contracts.

Yup, both are on PPA deals. Tried to get them on written contracts, but they're both loyal to WLW.

Re: Incognito Brother, that's just going to be a one-off for Lenny Brown. Do watch out, though, for the next pair of jobbers to be fed to BB Colossus. ;)
