Player's Tips (For the players, by the players.)

Recommended Posts

Hi there everyone !

I may be not a member since a long time but I'm very glad to be here. I read some good advices and that's why I had the idea of this topic.

Its principle is simple : like its name indicates it, it will be the place where us players, I hope, we'll share tips of any sort. Of course, I mainly made it for players who didn't play the previous iterations and those that really struggles in it. But obviously, you can all participate and I even encourage you to do so, because, well, it's its whole point ! (I even think that we should do a "Quick Questions Thread" but that's just a new member opinion...)

So let's begin !

Tip n°1 a.k.a. "The Obvious One"

If you're not already accustomed to the Wrestling Spirit serie, or if you're really bad at it and doesn't fully understand it, read the game's Help File (we can't emphazise enough on it.) then Adam's guide to beginners which gave me this topic idea at first. A lot of gameplay and mechanism explanations, Yay [/hide]

Tip n°2 "The Kind of character should I play"

Nothing mendatory here. Of course, its your rookie and playing a kind of wrestler that you like IRL is funnier and more addictive even if each style has it's pro and con. But for an "easier" experience, I suggest you to play a "Puroresu Style" wrestler. The more importants part of their wrestling style are strong strike and good technical skills. Thanks to this, it permits you to use a lot of strikes and grappling moves to fill your momentum while your wear down opponent's with submissions and rest holds.

Conversely, I suggest you to no to play as a "Spot Monkey" or as a "Cruiserweight" because their stats emphases on Speed offenses and defenses while their technical and power stats are weak. If your opponent is slow and can't catch you, you're fine. But if they gets you, or if you crash miserably on the ground and inflicting yourself damages, you're fairly done. Don't hope to "Break" or "Slip Out" from your opponent's move and cross your fingers to have the opportunity to "Avoid" a move before you're out of momentum. This counsil, can also apply to "Luchadores" and, my personally favorite, "Japanese Junior" kind wrestlers but they have at least the good point to have some good technical skills (depending on their specialization) and thus more chances to escape long sequences.

Of course, this "tip" is far from being complete since I didn't tried all of wrestling's style but if I could add something, technicians and submission specialists seems fairly good to me with their power on the ground and their ability to wear down opponent's stats and momentum. Only particularly strong wrestlers could be a problem with "Break", but "Low" and "Medium" moves are very efficients.

Note : You can also incarnate a "Star" like Champagne Lover or Mr. Cornell (A lot of more could be added, but I let the others say who, since I'm far from being a C-Verse encyclopedia) to learn game mechanics then gradually a great young wrestler like the Gauge/Keith brothers then KC Glenn. Of course, learning game mechanics could be a pain in the a** while you job miserably to a very low skilled wrestler, but learning the hard way, is learning the right way.

If some of you wants to share their opinion and tips about wrestling styles styles, absolutely don't hesitate to do so.

Tip n°3 "In which area should I begin ?"

I'm not particularly sure about this since Mr. Ryland succeded to equilibrate his universe (except for that cheated "DDT" move) but some areas seems to have a different difficulty level. I only seriously tried Japan and Europe, but Europe (and surely UK) seems more difficult in a RTL game with more strong and technically good characters while Japan have some "Japanese Junior" that are quite easily beatable with a rookie due to speed being their primarly skill.

Tip n°4 "Choose wisely your next move"

Momentum and the differents level of move are the most importants part of the game. So i'll give you what level I generally use when I compare both of momentums. (This tip is more real when you gain access to other levels)

Player Momentum = CPU's Momentum : Medium moves are my favorite to use in this situation because they have a fairly good amount of success and can deal some good damages while speeding up the game (DDT, I'm looking at you.) Of course, if you want to have better chances, you can slightly increase your momentum and reducing opponent's with the very reliable "Low" level moves. (This apply when you have the same momentum level as your opponent or if you only have one more level. "Good vs Normal" or "Normal vs Poor".)

Try your luck on a "High" level move if you REALLY think it is your lucky day to make a quick impact but it's risky. Don't even think of "Finisher".

Player Momentum > CPU's Momentum : When you have two more momentum levels, (Good vs Low) don't hesitate to use "Medium" moves for their power and their increased chances to strike. But like always, "Low" level can increase your chance. You can also use "High" moves regularly if the opponent have bad defensive skills, but Finishers are still risky even though it's where you first have a chance to land them.

Player Full vs Empty opponent : "Medium" moves are sure to land, "High" moves are some kind of secure and have the possibility to make you win but you'd be crazy not to use your Finisher. You can't have a better opportunity for it even if at best you'll only have a 1 in 3 or even 4 chances to land it. If you miss it, try to quickly counter your opponent and work on your momentum again.

Player Momentum < CPU Momentum : If you counter your opponent, don't try your luck. Use "Low Level" moves to reequilibrate the balance and cross your finger if you're in a pretty bad shape and your opponent have a chance to finish you of.

Tip n°5 "Two is better than one"

When you first begin in RTL, your rookie is exactly what he is with pretty low skills, weak health and few spirit and it could be a hard time to win single match at first, and the precious 100XP reward (instead of 25XP for losing.). So, don't hesitate to team up with another wrestler then choosing the "Tag Team" storyline to slighly increase your chances to win if it's a relatively good, but surely better, wrestler than yours. I saw a lot of people on the forum complaining about the fact that you can end up with a bad partner, but don't forget that you can create a regular tag team in the appropriate tab, with any Low Level wrestler active in your area that you want (don't neither forget that there is no Face/Heel difference on the independant scene), so you can choose him wisely. In this way, you'll end up with him as a partner during the storyline.

And that's all for now. I know there art a lot of mechanisms I didn't approach, especially "Overall" and "Spirit" importance but I'm counting on you to add more tips and explanations and not letting this topic die.

EDIT : Damn, I just saw that BuddyGarner created a "Tips and Tricks" thread just right before me. (I said "just right" because this text took me several hours to write.) So, i'll let the moderators take a decision about what I should do.
