WEFF: Vendetta

To promote the release of the new community database I will host a small diary.

The concept:

The WEFF company will program a TV show styled after UFC's "The Ultimate Fighter", wherein two teams of five female bantamweight fighters will pair up in a series of episodes featuring fights according to standard GAMMA rules. Unlike TUF, the team with the most episode wins will win the season. Therefore, "Vendetta" seemed to be an appropriate name. The fighters have been mainly chosen for their marketing appeal. After all, you want some names to come out your TV shows. Currently we're planning 10 episodes. Matchups will be made at the end of the previous episode based on stylistic appeal and the performance so far in the fights. Unfortunately the game doesn't allow assigning fighters to a camp mid-game so I'm going to have to start a game at 2003. I won't go so far as to flesh out the episodes; I'll just post the fights in their entirity. Given that I have the formula's for the renders, I can also post an action shot, which I think would be a nice addition to diaries in general.

'Radiant' Raica Tenório: Brazil 5f4 MMA

From the slums of Brazil, a natural athlete and gorgeous girl, Raica grew up aspiring to be a model. When her height disallowed this, she turned to MMA. Naturally good at just about everything, she’s shown very little interest in the competition of the sport, caring more about the fame, cameras, and money. That became quite clear the moment she verbally submitted to an amateur opponent after suffering a hard blow to the temple.

Diane Sykes: USA 5f7 Collegiate wrestling

In college, Sykes split her time between wrestling competitively and performing as a belly dancer. She’s transferred this unique skill to some of the most unusually effective takedown defense and sprawls that MMA has ever seen, much to the delight of the crowd. She presents almost zero danger if she has to stand and trade strikes.

Angel 'Bender' Benson: Canada 5f5 Jiu Jitsu

“Bender” gets her nickname from her ability to stretch her opponent whenever the fight goes to the ground. She has the ability to adapt to just about any kind of fight she’s in, whether its standing or on the ground. A shy girl, she was uncomfortably thrust into Canada’s spotlight when she became a fixture in the tabloids because of her relationship with a famous hockey player.

Serpil 'The Vulture' Volkan: Turkey 5f8 MMA Kickboxing

Wanting to follow in the footsteps of her childhood hero and fellow countryman, Hassan Fezzik, this skilled kickboxer has joined the MMA ranks with the hope of continuing Turkey’s legacy. She knows how to prey on an opponent's mistakes, and has dabbed in a variety of combat sports to possess the necessary tools for it. Instead of moving to get better training, she chooses to remain in her homeland that she always praises in her interviews, evoking quite a lot of boos from the American crowds.

'All American' Cindy Brady: USA 5f8 Wrestling

A nationally recognized wrestler from her days of racking up trophies and medals on both the college and professional circuits (in many weight classes), Cindy Brady comes into the world of mixed martial arts with an already dangerous set of skills, not to mention more name value then your average MMA rookie. While her stand-up can hardly be called anything more then decent, Brady thrives on the takedown and finishing her opponent by any means nessecary.

'Lovely' Line Lövgren: Sweden 5f4 Catch Wrestling

Löfgren is the daughter of a respected Swedish baron. She was brought up without any luxury, and chose to live on her own after she graduated in 'Geisteswissenshaften' from the university of Leipzig. Having wrestled throughout high-school, she has a decent base to start, but still needs a lot of work if she's to play any significant role in the sport. Relatively good-looking for a fighter (hence the nickname), she chooses not to bring that aspect into play.

Kiersten 'The Tornado' Torbeck: USA 5f3 MMA with Judo and Boxing background

Torbeck is a cross fit guru who fell in love with MMA when her boyfriend dragged her to a sports bar to watch a GAMMA event. She jumped in at full blast, dabbling in several styles, especially Judo and Boxing. She’s extremely well rounded, but does nothing exceptionally well. Those close to her feel her impulsive personality will make her leave MMA for the next big trend. She’s already begun buying her way into Poker events.

Tina 'The Mormon Princess' Chavez: USA 5f7 College Wrestling

A descendant of Moroccan Royalty, Chavez’s mother moved to America and married into a Mexican Mormon family. A one dimensional fighter, her only way of winning is if she can get the fight to the ground and lay on her opponent until the bell rings. Her bloodlines, perfect personality, and good looks have made her magnetic to Hollywood media, tabloids, and young fans. Despite all that, she remains a dedicated Mormon.

'The Black Mamba' Maimi Koyanagi: Japan 5f6 Judo

Koyanagi is beloved in her home country for being the sweetheart wife of their greatest baseball star, Akihiro Koyanagi. She’s no slouch in the ring either. A very aggressive Judoka black belt, Maimi is a great mat technician. Because of her slow speed and reaction time, she will do everything she can to dictate the pace. She’s vulnerable to being tagged when upright, but when she's got her opponent down 'Black Mamba' can and will slowly advance her position to eventually choke her out.

'Lady Van Damme' Dorien Van Nieuwenhove: Belgium 5f6 MMA Kickboxing

An incredibly gifted kick boxing prospect out of Belgium, Dorien has also developed a competent enough ground and clinches game to keep her from having any glaring holes in her fight skills. She loves to chop her opponents down using brutal leg kicks. As much as she loves to dish out punishment, she hates being hit in her beautiful face even more. Her movie star charisma and fame within the sport has given her the opportunity to enter action film, earning the nickname “Lady Van Damme”.

In the commercial during the educational self-help-program: "Hammer and you: the do's and don'ts", we get to see a promo hyping the next episode. Here's hoping it will be quite the 'hammertime'. The Vulture already set her sights on her opponent for the next episode, airing the last saturday of march 2003 (which is exactly two months after episode one). She won't face an American out of 'principle' but would like a shot against Van Nieuwenhove to prove her point that she's the top striker of the season. Unfortunately for her, she gets Lövgren as Van Nieuwenhove is assigned as the opponent for the local sweetheart and - so the critics say - focal point of the season, Angel Benson. Volkan has of course returned to her homeland to train for the match. The rest didn't make too much of a fuss about it, stating the usual "I'll come and bring my A-game and will be victorious", yada yada... What we do have to look forward to is the main event, pitting the local fighter against arguably the one that looked the best coming out of the first event, though that doesn't mean much at this point of the series. If Benson is going to embrace another stand-up war, she might be in for a different ride against Lady Van Damme. In another matchup, two other good performers go at it as takedown-specialist Brady might have a tough time applying that skill to Torbeck. Van Nieuwenhove showed a lot of heart, but eventually lost the match as her disadvantage on the ground proved to be a little too big. Benson did well to score those takedowns. Wonder what it would've given in a five round fight...

Also worth noting is the injuries suffered after just 3 episodes:

Volkan injured her hand in the last fight. Nothing serious, but it did set back the next event to week 1 of august.

After episode 2, Chavez already sprained her neck, which caused her a small delay in training for episode 3. It seems it did not hurt her chances though.

The very first episode had Benson walk out with a knee injury. Again: nothing that serious.

Ok, this is it. If Red wins this one I'm calling it quits. It'd be too unbalanced, and ratings were down on the last show, which was not that exciting. So Team Purple damn well better win this one. Results will be up in an hour. We have our first rematch scheduled between the 'Lovely' one and the 'Vulture', a match that was closer than it seemed on paper (30-26). Volkan's hand recovered completely, and she already gave away her intentions of testing her hand on the face of Lövgren. Tenorio & Brady have yet to taste defeat, and personally I don't think these matchups will have defeats in store for them. These fighters are still rookies and don't possess much finishing power, so Brady's takedowns are gold. But if 'Van Damme' finds her action movie skills, we might see some fireworks after all as the main event arguably pits the 2 best strikers against each other, and both love a fistfight. On a sidenote, Volkan sprained her hand again, but it's nothing serious. Thank god it's not broken.

Team Red's streak has finally been broken. Can Team Purple maintain their momentum? For this episode, the team has been asked to make the match-ups for themselves, hopefully adding to the drama as the show risks to be cancelled. Lövren has kind of been the weakest link in the team so far. She's come off four consecutive losses, which must be quite demoralizing for her. In an interview, she gave away that she continues to strive towards getting better as a fighter. Two of her losses have been close split decisions. She feels her chances would be best against Volkan, but opted for a rematch with Benson instead, as her performance was off that night. Benson too has been struggling a little, so that'd be a good matchup. Volkan has been asking for Van Damme for a while now, and she finally gets her will. Two of the best volume punchers in the series will square off. This one might even be the main event. Tenorio and Torbeck didn't really put on an awesome performance, but the match ending was a little controversial, with Torbeck claiming she wasn't finished at all. If you ask me, the call was just (she would've been finished eventually), but it does give her the right to challenge the 'slum queen' (Torbeck's words, not mine) once again. Brady's takedowns have been a puzzle no one has been able to solve so far. Chavez ended up the only opponent finished, but might possess the best tool to defeat her if she would take the initiative and takes down the All-American. This leaves Sykes and Koyanagi for the last remaining match. Not much to tell here. Both have been the less colourful characters in the show, dutifully doing their job without jumping into the spotlights. Sykes has made it a point not to get taken down during the run of the show. This will probably be the last event, folks. It's not as close as I would've liked, and there's just not enough options. As of now it was isolated from the regular gameworld, set in a universe with only my tv show. These things work better when integrated into a normal game, so there would be options after this TV show would conclude. 5 episodes seems decent enough.

Anyhow, the thread served its purpose: to make people sensible for the new database, which probably won't get worked on much for a while (until there's more info of WMMA4).

An attempt at an immersive picture from one of the matches, made possible because of the cage from Lucky, who I believe is a board member here. It was just a quicky and I ignored a couple of things.
