The Stupidest Little BHOTWG Diary

Recommended Posts

This is the first serious game I've committed to playing in 2013, after getting bored of booking too many 95+ matches in 2010 with my "I am physically hemorrhaging money" TCW save. I've never ran a puro promotion before. I'm playing as the owner of a company with so much prestige that my almost certain failure would result in my forced expulsion from Japan, in the pretend video game where my character is currently in Japan.

Feel free to follow along, mock my mistakes, and cover your eyes at the worst booking since the last time something something Vince Russo.

<p>Upon taking over the most prestigious company in Japan, I decided some changes were definitely in order.</p><p> </p><p>

While staying with the traditional touring schedule and avoiding upsetting traditionalists into forming a spin off company with an even longer acronym due to the need for colors and other adjectives, I moved the schedule around to the following:</p><p> </p><p>

January: off</p><p>

February: <strong>Fire Dream of the Immortals</strong>, our second biggest event</p><p>

March: <strong>Test of Prophecies</strong></p><p>

April: Best of the Super Juniors at <strong>Sword of Destiny</strong></p><p>

May: off</p><p>

June: <strong>Inferno of Purity</strong></p><p>

July: <strong>Quest of Heart</strong></p><p>

August: Kitozon Cup (our G1 Climax) at <strong>Pride of Winners</strong></p><p>

September: off</p><p>

October: Burning Tag Team Cup at <strong>Silencing Dragons</strong></p><p>

November: <strong>Everlasting Mission</strong></p><p>

December: <strong>Night of the Burning Hammer</strong>, our biggest event and effectively our "season ending" show.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm considering adding something special to the June big show, but haven't come up with anything yet.</p><p> </p><p>

I've also created an alliance with other companies so talent can be traded. I'm keeping the specifics of this secret for now, just because I have "plans."</p><p> </p><p>

I've also invested a million dollars into a dojo. The weird part here is it's open to both genders and Sensation Ogiwara is our head trainer, picked over Optimus and Kikkawa.</p><p> </p><p>

More info to come....</p>

<p><em>A late note to readers</em>: The reason I chose BHOTWG is because over the last year, I've really come to love puro thanks to the New Japan iPPVs and finding old matches on YouTube.</p><p> </p><p>

I don't plan on making this one of the fancy diaries with the images and prediction contests - I just don't have the time and interest to do that consistently. I hope to make it a conversion of both TEW and how to play it, and some light puro talk on the side.</p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, on to talk about my promotion:</p><p> </p><p>

I've updated the rosters above, including my touring contracts. Since this is the tour with our Junior Cup, I decided to focus my efforts there and mostly use my heavyweight touring contracts for tryouts. I will eventually post the developmental rosters, since I made a few signings there.</p><p> </p><p>

One other major change I made is that I have moved the Junior belts up to main event status. One of my major goals is to actually get our top junior stars up to this level.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm a bit concerned about trying to get Ota, Black and Glenn all over. At least Glenn is a long term project since I signed him to a five year contract which will end up paying him around $19k a year. I ideally see Black establishing himself as a solid presence on our cards. As for Ota, I'm not 100% sure on where to take him - he has the skills to perform well, but he's 38. He might top out in the midcard.</p><p> </p><p>

I think the Junior division will be fine long term. There's enough major players that are young, talented and over where we should be fine for quite a few years. Masuno, Toshusai and Horri are the only main event players who are under 35. I'll have to work on scouting and developing these guys.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, my current card for <strong>Fire Dream of the Immortals</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Burning World Heavyweight Championship</strong>: Yasuhiko Taira vs. Tadiyuki Kikkawa ©</p><p>

<strong>King of Fighters</strong>: Kinnojo Horri vs. Tasuku Iesada ©</p><p>

<strong>Burning Junior Championship</strong>: Marihito vs. Elemental III ©</p><p>

<strong>Special Attraction Match</strong>: Hiroaki Nakasawa vs. <em>Mystery Opponent</em></p><p>

<strong>Burning World Tag Team Championship</strong>: Sessue Kawate and Santeomo Shiraishi vs. Toshiki Shibanumo and Nissho Yuasa ©</p>

Well, that sucked. Not at all good enough. 13 whole points below what we needed! And Golden Scorpion got a brachial plexopathy after the show, so he's out for 24 days. Gonna have to figure this out.

<p>And what might be your UC's motivational skills?</p><p> </p><p>

Regarding the first four matches, they feature alot of newly signed workers who are just not ready for BHOTWG popularity-wise. They will come along after a while though but it would be much easier in the future to bring in only one new signee at a time. That one would gain popularity much quicker by frequently working with the already well known regulars.</p><p> </p><p>

What I would try to boost the shows' overall ratings: Book a tag matches as the shows' main events featuring an experience team of main eventers vs. any other combination of main eventer/upper midcarder. And as Rickymex hinted, maybe phase out the declining workers from main events?</p><p> </p><p>

Keep it up! <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

I decided to max out diplomacy and almost do the same with leadership to get the backstage stuff on lockdown right away.</p><p> </p><p> As for introducing less new guys next time: I wouldn't disagree with that, but I felt it was important to try a few guys out this time so we could hopefully stock up on talent we can rely on (also, so we'd have added depth for this tour that would emphasize juniors on the latter half). I also think that things are working out reasonably well so far with them - their matches haven't had the ratings go completely in the toilet, and the overness of the new guys is increasing nicely. Glenn and Ota are already at 7 after two shows, and Black and Toshusai aren't far behind.</p><p> </p><p> But the #1 problem in the two cards so far is that the main events have been lower rated than I need them to be. I'll try the tip on the tag main event for the next tour show.</p><p> </p><p> On a related note, I decided to only run two tour shows a week for this first month. I don't want to tire people out before our big show. Later in the tour, when it's time for the Super Juniors cup, I think we'll go back to three shows a week.</p>

Been lurking around, very interested to see where you take this. One thing I'd like to mention, provided you have PST turned on, you might consider opening the card with one of your better graded matches. You close out with four 70ish rated matches while your openers are around the 50 mark. It won't solve all of your woes, but a 70ish opener might bump your final grade a few points.

It seems like you may be suffering from a lack of momentum which is why your mains tend to do poorly.

I like to have every stable in their own storyline as unaligned so that they look good when teaming with each other, and at the end of the tour they get a great momentum boost. It's really interesting to see how other people book BHOTWG. I tried to pick up my 16 month save with them today but just couldn't will myself to book it.

Did you change the expected match lengths in your product settings? If not, Main Events (all matches featuring atleast 2 Main Eventers) are expected to be 35+ minutes (or something in that range). If your matches are shorter than whatever the settings for expected match lengths are, they will suffer a penalty.
