WCW 1994: Clash of the Titans, Ted Turner runs WCW!

Recommended Posts

In June 1994 Hulk Hogan signed a contract to join WCW with the goal of facing Ric Flair in an ultimate dream match. Many ideas as to where, when, and how that match would take place with the popular idea being a showdown between the two titans of wrestling at Bash at the Beach 1994. Ted Turner thought it over for a second before shooting down this idea cold. He reasoned a match this huge needed an event equally big. Thus, Ted Turner decided that Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair would face off at Starrcade 94, whether or not Ric was champion at that time. Ted then let his booking committee know that this was too big to trust them with, so he decided to appoint himself the new head booker of WCW. He reasoned that if Vince could run his own wrestling company then surely so could he. Thus the era of Ted Turner booking WCW begins...

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Hogan gets attitude!</p><p>

According to various sources, Hulk Hogan was walking around the backstage area during the Main Event taping letting the roster know that now that he was in WCW that people would start tuning into the show. This does not seem to sit well with the roster as you would expect and the "slap on the wrist" he received for his behavior seems to have rubbed some of the other veteran roster members the wrong way.</p></div><p></p><p></p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Once again it is being reported that Hulk Hogan is walking around backstage, this time at the Saturday Night taping, acting like he is the savior of WCW. Unsurprising the rest of the WCW roster was very upset about this and it seems Ted Turner himself gave Hogan a stern warning about curbing the attitude. Hogan was visibly upset that Turner would even consider talking to him in that manner and stormed off in a huff.</p></div><p></p><p></p>

Dude, what's up with your Duggan? He this a gimmick, or is he just unfit to wrestle? I'm intrigued, always glad to see another take on 94 WCW around besides my own <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Best of luck!

Jimmy Hart attacks fan!

At the recent taping of WCW Saturday Night Jimmy Hart got into a heated argument with a fan who insulted Andy Kaufman. Jimmy Hart had to be restrained by security and word is the fan received some free WCW merchandise in an effort to smooth things over. Ted Turner was very upset and let Hart have it backstage. Turner is afraid an incident like this one could lead to a lawsuit that would put WCW out of business

WCW Saturday Night Results {2 Hour Show}

15,000 fans at the Nashville Municipal Auditorium {Southeast}

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Cactus Jack & Kevin Sullivan defeated Bad Attitude in 7:55 when Cactus Jack defeated Steve Keirn by pinfall with a Double Arm DDT. During the match we also saw Jerry Sags and Brian Knobbs come out and stand on the entrance ramp.

After the match was over The Nasty Boys whipped out mics and challenged Cactus Jack and Kevin Sullivan to a no holds barred Florida Buried in the Sand Match! Cactus and Kevin hold the Tag Titles up and shake their heads in agreement as the crowd goes nuts.

In an extremely short match, Jim Duggan drew with Ron Simmons in 5:29 when the referee was instructed by WCW Commissioner Nick Bockwinkle to end the match. The announcers noted that Duggan looked to be intoxicated once again and ending the match was the right thing to do as Simmons or Duggan could have been seriously hurt.

Nick Bockwinkle got on the house mic and ordered Duggan out of the ring. Bockwinkle said he doesn't know what is wrong with Duggan, but until Jim gets it under control he is not to return to another WCW taping.

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Erik Watts defeated Bunkhouse Buck in 7:05 by submission with a STF after botched interference by Col. Robert Parker.

Backstage Dustin Rhodes cut a promo on Terry Funk. Rhodes said that if Terry wanted to use that branding iron of his during their match he will be sorely disappointed because their match at Bash at the Beach was a Rhodes family specialty...a Texas Strap Match!

In an extremely short and one-sided match, Big Ron Studd defeated Terry Taylor in 5:23 by pinfall. The fans went crazy for Studd's debut, many impressed with his gimmick!

Ric Flair is seen approaching Steve Austin backstage. Flair informs Austin that the only thing he hates more than losing is being shown up. So tonight, he wants Austin to team up with him and together the two of them will make Hulk Hogan look like an amateur. Austin agreed to the team up and said they will have the fans talking about them and not Hogan after the show.

In an extremely short match, Sting defeated The Gambler in 5:24 by pinfall with a reverse DDT. During the match we saw Diamond Dallas Page run in and try to attack Sting after the Diamond Doll distracted Sting, but Sting was able to avoid the assault and leave DDP on his back with a suplex.

A video of Vader and The Guardian Angel brawling was played with the announcers noting they would face off at Bash at the Beach.

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, Lord Steven Regal defeated The Patriot in 8:07 when The Patriot was injured and could not continue. During the match we had Jean-Paul Levesque run in and attack The Patriot, causing the match ending injury. This makes defense number 5 of the WCW World Television Championship for Regal.

Prior to his match, Hulk Hogan did a small pose session for the crowd. The fans went nuts, but Jesse Ventura seemed annoyed by the whole thing.

In a bout that featured great action and a good crowd, Hulk Hogan defeated Meng in 8:23 by pinfall with a Leg Drop.

After the match Hulk Hogan began to pose again, but he stopped when the Soviet National Anthem was played over the PA system. Out from the back came Ivan Koloff with a mic and a smile. Ivan said Ric contacted him and asked if he could help him get rid of the Hulkster. Ivan then said that “the USSR might be gone, but he and his family still remained and they were just as intent at proving their superiority over weak Americas like Hogan as ever.” Ivan said he agreed to help Ric because his nephew Nicolai wanted to follow in Nikita's footsteps. He then said Hogan would face Nicolai at Bash at the Beach...the last match of Hogan's career!

In a bout that featured great action and a good crowd, Ric Flair and Steve Austin defeated Arn Anderson and Brian Pillman in 18:08 when Ric Flair defeated Brian Pillman by submission with a Figure Four Leglock. The match was considered by many as the match of the night.
