I truly thought that my SWF project was the end. I had finally completed the dynasty I had tried many times before and felt quite comfortable with how everything went. When coupled with my, soon to be, insane schedule this fall (student teaching, capstone work, applying for future teaching jobs), I had a feeling that there wouldn’t be any time (and/or energy) to complete a new project. I had all intentions to ‘stay away’… and then my mind started wandering…

While I won’t have anywhere NEAR the time to focus on this project as my past endeavors, I know that this process keeps me working creatively; which I believe is important due to the fact that I’ll be teaching writing/story creation in my classrooms. So, I drummed up an idea for a new project that could act as a creative exercise, occasionally updating it when I have time (once or twice a month maybe), and still keep me involved in this forum that I love.

That is how

Los Angeles Xtreme Wrestling

came about.

In this thread, I plan to unveil my roster. Over the next week or two, I’ll update this whenever possible & give you an idea of what to expect. The backstory; however, will remain, for the most part, a mystery until the actual thread makes its way to the board. I can tell you though, LAX Wrestling is a ‘small’ sized company based in the South-West (LA). It has low prestige & momentum and a decent bank size ($250,000). Due to its size, I won’t have a TV show. This actually plays better into the time that I’ll have available (as it’ll be moving more month-to-month with one big even each month).

Also, as a general backdrop (more info to come later), LAX Wrestling works with a ‘cult-modern’ product with shades of Lucha & Mainstream underlying. This will be fleshed out further in the actual dynasty post.

(You’re probably wondering WHY I chose the TEW 07/08 forum to post this. I decided to go this way in which to not disturb the 2013 thread until the full dynasty is up).

With all of that said though, let’s move onto the wrestlers who will make up Los Angeles Xtreme Wrestling!

Then again, as you said, there are a lot of parallels between the two in general. Thank you for the catch on Powell's profile. That's what happens when you write a profile while watching TV at the same time. ha.

Due to this being a hype thread, I thought I would give a general idea of what to expect for the project (once it does hit the boards)...

Not 1st-Person/SWF-like layout

I was thinking of going back to a John Greed-saga-like scenario; however, the multiple layers of storytelling is just too much to keep up with. That said, I'm going to go with a layout that is closer to my SWF project. In that vein, it's as if you were a fan of LAX Wrestling as it comes into existence with information coming in the form of shows, company website posts, powerhouse news posts, etc. This way, I can focus entirely on the characters, tone of the company, etc., versus simplifying that too much in which to tell the 'behind the scenes' story.

The look of the project

I'm honing my GIMP skills while working through content information this summer. I've been able to cut out images now, overlay them on backdrops, and plan to use this approach for my wrestler visuals come time for the project. I was originally expecting to continue on with the 'roster tag' scenario that you're seeing in this forum; however, probably wont. If anything, I'll just link their names (on the roster) to the individual post on this forum. It may require more clicking but may be a better approach.

First Event

I know there's an event that PWG puts on that's called "Battle of Los Angeles". It's a tournament style event. In reality, that's exactly what I'm going to do with LAX Wrestling as well. It's going to be called "Battle for Los Angeles" and will consist of a two-day 16-man tournament. The first year (2014), the winner will be crowned the LAX Champion. In years after, the winner will be noted as the "Battle for Los Angeles" winner and will then become the #1 contender to the LAX Championship.

With that, I've made it through the LAX active roster. As you can see, there is a lot of variety thus far. Also, outside of a few 'indy darlings', the wrestlers chosen are all relatively unknown (and people I, personally, have not worked with). I feel this will give LAX Wrestling a unique feel; one detached from the typical promotion.

Since the company is small, I don't plan on hiring much on top of this. There will be moments where people come in on short-term contracts or talent-trade scenarios; however, that will only be done to create something 'flashy' for a new event. For the most part, I want to keep this roster in tact (growing together).

As of right now, I have some aspects of the dynasty written up; however, it may not see the board for a bit longer. I'm working with someone as it pertains to the LAX Championship belts; so, it'll depend on how that goes before I can 'get this thing off the ground'. Once that's ready though, I plan to have it up soon.

Also, I'm going to do a roster tag for my user character as well; giving a brief background of what to expect. I don't plan on writing a first-person experience; however, it's still good to know who started the company and why. Plus, there's a current feeling to the promotion that can only be told through WHO the owner is. I'll have that up later today most likely.
