Winthrop Coliseum 6,100* Sell Out

 

When the show starts we see faces Brutus Beefcake and Antonio Mosca Jr in the ring ready for some tag team action, and there opponents tonight are the NWA World Tag Team Champions. Don Kernodle and Sgt Slaughter. The announcers start to hype the fact that Ricky Steamboat and Jay Youngblood can't to get there hands on Slaughter and Kernodle at the MACW Big show at the end of January. They say this could be there Final Conflict.

 

-Sgt Slaughter & Don Kernodle V.S. Brutus Beefcake and Antonio Mosca Jr

Slaughter and Kernodle dominated the opposition from the word go. Beefcake and Mosca never stood a chance and at 6:56 Slaughter pinned Mosca after they hit the Atomic Bomb on him. (The same move that injured Jay Youngblood)

 

-After the match the announcers talked a little until they would send it to the back where David Crockett is with the NWA Tag Champs Sgt Slaughter and Don Kernodle. The team talks about how when they face Steamboat and Youngblood again they'll make sure that they don't leave on there own two feet.

 

- Then Steamboat and Youngblood come out of now where and the two teams start brawling. After some time many personal come and break it up to the fans dismay, but the NWA Champs are pleased as they seemed to be losing the fight. With many personal holding Youngblood and Steamboat back Slaughter and Kernodle escape.

 

- Paul Jones V.S. Mike Rotundo

Paul Jones is looking to get into title contention and what better way of doing it then beating the TV Champion. It was a pretty even match, but in the end Mike Rotundo pulled out the well deserved win over the veteran. Mike would get the win with a Flying Lariat following a Airplane Spin.

 

-Dick Slater then ran out with Gary Hart and Slater would proceed to challenge Rotundo for his TV Title and they said they'd give Rotundo until next week to give a proper answer.

 

-David Crockett is now backstage with none other the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, The Nature Boy Ric Flair. David welcomes Flair and Flair goes on to say that in twenty seven days David Corckett you still will be announcing me as the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Woooo. You know why, Ill tell you why because wooo. In twenty six days I face Piper he will be tapping out to the figure four leg lock in the middle of the ring. But until then Im free so if any of the lovely ladies here in North Carolina wanna ride on space mountain they better tell me now because tickets sell fast.

 

-Porkchop Cash V.S. Ric Flair

Prokchop started the match off with a good fight and a lot of fire in his eyes. Porkchop got the NWA Champion on defense and kept him there for sometime. Flair would get the upper-hand after a cheap eye poke though. Flair would continue his offense by doing some calculating moves to the leg of Prokchop which would soften him up for the Figure Four Leglock. Which Flair used to make Porkchop tap out.

 

-When the match end Roddy Piper came down to the ring to the surprise of Ric Flair. But before Roddy could properly enter the ring many officials and security stood in between him and Flair so they could avoid any physical contact which it was obvious Piper wanted.

 

We close out Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling with the sight of Piper and Flair the two that will be in the NWA World Title Match at Championship Clash being seperated by the MACW and NWA officials and security.

Will Rogers Coliseum 1,435

 

- Bugsy McGraw Heel V.S. Jose Lothario Face

This was more of a brawling/basic type match to start the show as the Brass Knuckles Champ Bugsy McGraw faces Legend Jose Lothario. Both men got good moves and moments in the match and at the end Lothario came out on top in great fashion after hitting a big Superkick.

 

- Buddy Roberts V.S. Brian Adias

The Freebirds have just become the hottest villains in Texas history after costing Kerry the NWA Title against Ric Flair at Christmas Star Wars. Buddy was hollered at and jeered by the Texas fans, but still came out beating the young and hungry Brian Adias.

 

- Great Kabuki w/ Arman Hussein (Managing for Gary Hart) Heel V.S. Tola Yatsu Face

This was a good match between these popular foreign competitors. Amhad did get involved at some point in the match attacking Yatsu without the ref seeing to help Kabuki get some advantage. That interference was all Kabuki needed and he came back to beat his fellow Japanese representative.

 

WCCW Television Title Match

 

- © Al Madril Face V.S. Bill Irwin Heel

This was a very even and well done TV title match, as Irwin and Madril put on a match that Fritz had expected. These two had some great action but by the end Madril was able to retain the title.

 

- Chris Adams Face V.S. The Spoiler Heel

The main eventer The Spoiler is going against an up and coming star in Chris Adams. Chris who has alot of the ladies on his side got some good shots in on the veteran with his faster pace style then The Spoiler. But the Veteran saw a quick opener on Adams and took it. Spoiler then got the pin off a Piledriver on the Englishman Chris Adams.

 

-The Samoan Heel V.S. David Von Erich Face

The NWA's Texas heavyweight champion is taking on a big challenge in the ravage beast known as The Samoan, but we can never under estimate a Von Erich. David had his moments of dread in this match but eventually hit two big Tornado Punches to get the win following an Iron Claw.

 

- Kevin & Kerry Von Erich V.S. King Kong Bundy and Scott Irwin Heels

Bundy and Irwin didn't really connect as a team early on, but as the match developed they learned to co exist better which helped them keep up with the great chemistry of the Von Erichs. The Von Erichs though were able to fight out the weight disadvantage and come away with a big win over two big men.

IWGP World Tag Team Titles

-The British Bulldogs V.S. Rusher & Animal V.S. Maeda & Takada V.S. The North South Connection (Adrian Adonis & Dick Murdoch)

Rusher & Animal came in the match as the favorite to win with there six years of experience, but they were bested at every corner by the other three teams. After all was set and done, Maeda & Takada got eliminated first by North South Connection, The Bulldogs next by Rusher & Animal, and finally the winners of the IWGP World Tag Titles were Rusher & Animal as they beat The good but inexperienced North South Connection.

 

NWA Junior Heavyweight Title Match

This was a good match with great action for the prestigious Junior Heavyweight title. The Cobra showed great skill against the champion and in the end came close to the win with a Senton but Tiger Mask kicked out. Tiger Mask would then with the match with a perfectly executed Tiger Suplex. Tiger Mask retains his title.

 

-Masked Superstar V.S. Super Strong Machine

This was pretty match a power display throughout the match, which pretty much bored the crowd. Super Strong Machine won the match after some time with a Majin Fusha Gatame (Bridging hammerlock suplex).

 

-Abdulah The Butcher V.S. Tatsumi Fujinami

Tatsumi started the match strong with big strikes to the big psychopath Abdulah. Abdulah would comeback with his strength advantage and continue having the upper-hand. Tatsumi would surprisingly make a huge comeback, he would hit Abdulah with a Double Underhook DDT and beat the big man after a very close 3 count.

 

-Andre The Giant V.S. Hulk Hogan

This is once again a match between two kind of big guys, but this one was very entertainer as Andre and Hogan had the crowd in there hands the whole time with Andre's innovative moves and Hogan with strength of strikes. After much back and forth action Andre would win with a Double Underhook Suplex.

 

-Antonio Inoki V.S. Kendo Nagasaki

Antonio Inoki really controlled this match, until a brief occasion where Kendo got in the quick jab to get the upper-hand. Antonio would then win with a Sleeper Hold.

 

-Yoshiaki Fujiwara V.S. Riki Choshu

This was a very technical match between Yoshiaki and Riki. No one got an clear advantage in this one as whenever one would hit a big move the other would follow up with a big move. After 22:09 with both men haven been worn down, Riki Choshu would hit a Belly-to-Belly Suplex, and off that covered Yoshiaki.

With much shock Bill Watts has passed away in such sad news. Our condolences are sent to the entire Watts family in there time of sorrow, we also would like to announce that since Bill Watts has passed he has left his Mid-South Wrestling Promotion to his first born son and commentator Joel Watts. Many think Joel will not be able to be as good of a promoter as his father and will be pushed around by talent and others alike. We once again give our condolences to the Watts family and to all of the fans that loved Bill Watts as a wrestler and behind the scenes personality.

MACW in Your Town

Darien Sportsplex Ice Arena (Great Lakes) 1,250* Sell Out

 

- "Beautiful" Bobby Bass & "Mean" Mike Davis V.S. Prokchop Cash & Iceman King Parsons

Bobby and Mike showed good chemistry in this match that helped them along through alot of it. It wasnt until Porkchop hit a huge right hand that his team got the advantage. Porkchop would tag Iceman and Bobby tags Mike, Iceman then hits a multitude of moves on both Mike and Bobby until he knocked Bobby to the floor. He then turned around and ducked a clothesline by Mike Davis, and hit the ropes. When he cameback to Mike he does a crossbody and gets the 1.2.3.

 

-Terry Funk w/Dory Funk Jr V.S. Larry Lane

The Funker had the uninterrupted upper-hand for the whole match, Funk would end the match by make Lane tap to Terry's signature Spinning Toe Hold.

 

-After the match, before Terry celebrates Jerry Brisco runs down and gets in the ring to give a big jumping forearm to the back of Terry Funk knocking him to the floor. When Terry regroups on the floor with Dory he attempts to re-enter the ring but Dory stops him, even though Jerry's alone. Dory and Terry then retreat to the backstage area.

 

- Sweet Brown Sugar V.S. Black Bart

This was just a typical midcard match, both men showcased there talents and in the end Sweet Brown got to taste the sweet taste of victory.

 

- Gary Hart then comes out with Dick Slater (who is in the Main Event VS Roddy Piper) Hart talks about how Dick cant wait to just get his hands on the TV Gold after the weasel Mike Rotunda finally accepts there challenge and actually acts like a man.

 

- Dick Slater V.S. Roddy Piper

They showed some great action in this main event as both men gave all they had to prove they are top level competitors. Dick got good showings as well did Piper, as both men were trying to one up the other the referee rings the bell....

 

 

 

Its a time limit draw.

 

-Ric Flair comes out after the match and starts beating on Piper with Greg Valentine behind Flair. They both begin to beat down on Piper until Bob Orton Jr runs out to make the save for his friend the Hot Rod. Orton knocks Valentine to the floor and Flair runs out on his own power. Orton and Piper stand tall in Illinois as this installment of MACW In your Town ends.

Looking forward to seeing the territories work together. I'm assuming you'll be able to send Andre the Giant on a US tour for example and help "pop the gates" for each of the territories, or have Abdullah the Butcher come in as a bounty hunter to feud with a top babyface star, etc.

Alot of superstars will indeed be seen all over the U.S., for example Ric Flair or the NWA Champion will always be seen in another territory every month. Also, Andre will be another top guy seen in pretty much every territory as well.

 

In January though I'm just focusing on the guys the companies have now, and then as the months advance you'll see some loans here and there.

World Class Championship Wrestling

Will Rogers Coliseum (Texas) 6,933

 

-Devastation INC (Kamala, The Samoan, & The Missing Link w/ Skandar Akbar and Friday) V.S. Tony Charles, Brian Adias, and Frank Dusek

Devastation INC controlled basically the entire match-up, as they showed off there huge strength and power advantage over there smaller challengers. At the end of the match we see Missing Link connect with a oriental spike on Dusek to get the win.

 

Bill Mercer Inerviews Skandar Akbar

-Bill Mercer comes in the ring after the match ends to interview all of Devastation INC. Skandar Akbar does all of the talking though. Mr. Mercer asks Skandar how he developed this stable. Skandar responds with "This Corporation is equipped with the best of the feared wrestlers in the world. We execute who we dislike and mutilate those we hate, which is the simple code of Devastation Incorporated. This group has been made to rule with an iron fist over World Class Championship Wrestling and we will choose our first victim tonight."

 

 

-Killer Tim Brooks V.S. Kerry Von Erich w/ Kevin Von Erich

Kerry lost a quick upper-hand after Brooks hit a big avalanche clotheslinee, that led to him getting a big splash and almost the win. Kerry would kick out at two though, but he still lacked the power to get ahead of Brooks in the match. As the match rolled on Kerry started a little comeback with right hands, he then hit a big dropkick dropping the Killer. Kerry started getting fired up and hit the IRON CLAW on Tim Brooks that made him tap.

 

Kerry and Kevin talk Freebirds

- After the match the Von Erich Boys grab a mic, Kerry starts off saying "Freebirds, we use to be best friends, the greatest buddies Texas Wrestling has ever seen but, you just had to ruin that when you helped not only cost me the NWA World Title but also left me with stitches across my head when you Terry Gordy threw that cage door at my face. Those unforgivable acts are now going to get all three of you in a whole lot of trouble with us, Buddy, Michael, Terry, beware the Von Erichs because we will get revenge."

 

- The Spoiler w/ Arman Hussein V.S. Jose Lothario

These two veterans had a very good old school match, Lothario got Spoiler in many a holds and Spoiler would follower up with some power moves of his own. Spoilers game plan which was power before brains worked out good for him in this one as he beat Lothario with a brainbuster that knocked Mr. Lothario out cold.

 

Bill Mercer Interview Arman Hussein

-We then see Bill Mercer come in the ring for an interview with Arman Hussein and The Spoiler. Mercer begins to ask a question but Arman cuts him off. Arm Says "Me and Spoiler will control the WCCW management and the first step to doing that is to win the American Heavyweight title. Therefore right now on be half of The Spoiler I now declare his intention to win that title from the pretty boy Kevin Von Eirch." The Spoiler goes on to say "To the victor goes the Spoils and Kevin I will spoil your career when I take that championship from you one way or another."

 

- Bugsy McGraw V.S. Bruiser Brody

This one was just an all out brawl, between these two hardcore competitors. Bugsy was a little more underhanded in his attempts to pick up an all important win, while Brody was rough and tough while staying on the good side of the rules. The term cheaters never prosper was pretty much a perfect example of this as Brody got the win over Bugsy McGraw

 

The Victim Is Found

-Skandar Akbar then starts to walk out from the back as Bruiser Brody stares at him wide eyed, Devastation INC then comes from behind Brody and start to attack him. Kamala, Missing Link and The Samoan all assault Brody as Sakndar looks on pleased. As Kamala and The Samoan continue the beatdown on Brody Missing Link goes and gets a chair, when he enters the ring once again Kamala and Samoan hold up Brody as Missing Link hits him in the head with a chair. With Brody knocked out Missing Link and The Samoan drag him to the middle of the ring and hold his arms and legs straight, Kamala then runs against the ropes and does a Big Splash on Brody. After Devastation INC is done beating on Brody they just stare at the damage they've caused as we go to commercial.

 

Freebirds talk

-When we comeback from commercial we see all three Freebirds in the back with microphones. Michael starts talking "Von Erichs you want retribution on us for costing Kerry the NWA World Title? Well guess what you won't get any revenge, because we are three rough tough men from Atlanta and you guys are just little wussies from Texas that could never even tie a Freebirds boot" Buddy Roberts goes on to say "Kerry you and your whole family shouldn't want revenge on us, if anything we should get a parade payed for by your dinosaur of a father named Fritz for all the money we have made this company over just this year. We are the Freebirds and Von Erichs were better then you."

 

- Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Terry Gordy) w/ Buddy Roberts V.S. Al Madril & Chris Adams

The Freebirds pretty much had full control in this match, except for a few times when Adams and Madril would get a quick upper-hand. The Freebirds would eventually win the match. When the match is over Kerry and Kevin Von Erich come running down but before they can get to the Freebirds they already escape.

 

Vignette

- There is then a video playing on the TV Screens across the country as we see a blonde girl in front a mansion. She Talks "My name is Sunshine and Im coming to WCCW to make sure everyone has a bright and shiny day."

 

-The Mongol w/ Gary Hart V.S. David Von Erich

This match starts with David having the agile advantage over Mongol, while Mongol would eventually get a power advantage. David would throw everything at the Mongol which worked out well as he started to knock the big man down. David would then rear back and lock on the IRON CLAW which would beat The Mongol in the end.

 

-When the match was done David Von Erich started celebrating in the ring with his title, then from out of no where The Great Kabuki hits a Spin Kick to the face of the Texas Heavyweight champion. This While Gary Hart screams at David, Kabuki proceeds to pick up the title and wave it over his head. Hart then tells Kabuki to leave, and take the title. So he does just that as Kabuki, Hart and Mongol leave the arena with David Von Erich's title in there possession. As WCCW goes off the air.

The Malenko's chemistry showed throughout the match as they were always right on top of one member of the Indians. Billy Two Eagles would comeback with a series of offense that would not only get his team the upper-hand but them the win in this tag bout.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

-We then see a video of <strong>Miss Brenda, Ed Wisokowski, and Playboy Buddy Rose.</strong> <strong>Buddy Rose</strong>- PNW is my home and its here that me and Ed Wisokowski along with Miss Brenda that we will take control over not only the tag team division but the singles division too. We will be unstoppable and you'll see what were made of next week.</p><p> </p><p>

-Then the camera is sent backstage where Dean Ho has a microphone. <strong>Dean Ho</strong>- Tonight I face Pacific Northwest Champion, Shiek Abdulah Hassen and when I beat him tonight I will have deserved a title shot and that I know. So Don Owen I hope you watch, I want you to see if you like me to be number one contender.</p><p> </p><p>

-<strong>Tommy Rogers V.S. Rip Oliver</strong></p><p>

Tommy Rogers started this match off vibrantly with exciting moves, until Rip Oliver the veteran grounded him to the mat. Oliver would continue the assault on Tommy until a small package that caught Oliver off guard got Rogers a big upset win over the veteran Rip Oliver.</p><p> </p><p>

-After the match <strong>Tommy Rogers</strong> took to the mic backstage. Rogers said "I knew if I set my mind to it and find some openings I could come away with the win. Rip might be a veteran but he knows I got the better of him tonight."</p><p> </p><p>

- <strong>Sheik Abdulah Ali Hassan V.S. Dean Ho</strong></p><p>

In the match to decide if Dean Ho will get a title against Sheik Abdulah both men put on a great performance. But after Dean Ho escaped a Camel Clutch attempts he scrambled to the top rope and hit a diving clothesline on the champion to get the win.</p><p> </p><p>

Yasu would use his veteran know how to gain an advantage over Reed in this one, but as the match would continue Yasu would continue to taunt the crowd more and more. After taunting a little too long Butch Reed caught Yasu in a powerslam to get the win.</p><p> </p><p>

-Post-Match Butch Reed gets a microphone and starts to speak. <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Butch Reed-</span></strong>Here in Central States Wrestling, I've seen more and more men come here and bully some smaller wrestlers or bully you fans. And that makes me sick. So right now I am throwing a challenge to the biggest Bully of them all, Ox Baker. Be a man Ox dont be a bully accept my challenge.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="font-size:12px;">Central States Tag Team Title Match</span></span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

This was a classic tag team match as both teams showed why they should be the top of the division. Near the closing moments Bulldog Bob had Moondog Spot between his legs for a powerbomb, but while the ref was distracted by Moondog Rex who tried to come in the ring, Buzz Tyler came behind Bulldog and hit him in the back with a tag team title belt. Bulldog fell in agony and Spot covered him. 1... 2... 3... The Moondogs win the belts as Buzz Tyler has turned on his partner.</p><p> </p><p>

Rick Martel controlled this match at the start and as it rolled on we would see good back and forth action. As the match came to the closing moments Martel would reverse a Kirby Scoop Slam, take down Kirby by his legs and lock on the Boston Crab to get the tap out victory.</p><p> </p><p>

- After the match the announcers (Larry Matyzik, Kevin Wall, & Rick Stewart) would tell us there is a commotion backstage. It was <strong>Bulldog Bob Brown and Buzz Tyler</strong> as they were having a fight in the locker room. All the wrestlers would try and separate them as they were trying to tear each other apart.</p><p>

Andre The Giant has won the WWF title from Bob Backlund at WWF in your Town

The Wild Samoans have won the WWF Tag Team titles from the Strongbows at WWF in your town.

 

MSW has signed, Ricky Steamboat, Ole Anderson, Roddy Piper, Larry Zbyszko, and Randy Savage.

 

AWA has signed Randy Savage, Terry Gordy, Kevin Von Erich, Ricky Steamboat, Ole Anderson, and Buzz Sawyer.

 

The NWA board has decided that along with the one monthly big NWA show there also be a consistent monthly show featuring NWA stars from all the territories. The vote was counted 6-1 as Antonio Inoki is the only person who voted against it, as Inoki was very opposed to having his wrestlers travel from Japan to the U.S. consistently over short periods. This caused a small turmoil between Inoki and the rest of the board as Inoki has been reportedly upset that he had to pay airfare to the U.S for an urgent meeting only about a week after the New Years Day meeting.

 

Antonio Inoki has made a mistake with the TV company TV Ashai as he signed a tv contract with them but instead of using TV they have went on a small tour for January which has upset the executives at TV Ashai, and made them want to break there TV Deal which Mr. Inoki is very against as he was looking to go to TV in Febuary right at the start.

Could be interesting if Andre wins the title tourney in Japan. Then he could challenge the NWA world champion - AND POSSIBLY hold all 3 major world titles!!! (AWA notwithstanding)

 

One suggestion - is it possible to list match ratings (at least the better ones) and show ratings. It helps to follow along and see the progress

Who knows, maybe Andre will hold all 3. Anything is possible in the NWA.
