Jerry Lawler vs. Owen Hart

Comments: Owen takes the loss due to Larry Legend's interference. At best he gets a DQ win.

NWA World Television Title Match

15 Minute Time Limit

Z-Man defends vs. Big Van Vader

Comments: Man, this is impossible to predict. I don't see Vader winning the TV strap but I don't see him taking a loss to Tom Zenk either. I'll say Zenk gets the win via DQ because Vader is too bad to handle!

George South vs. Tito Santana

Comments: Never pick George South!

Stan Hansen vs. Brian Pillman

Comments: Dude, if Brian Pillman wins here I riot. :)

Ric Flair vs. Tommy Rich

Comments: This is actually an interesting matchup because you've booked Tommy Rich to win quite a bit. However, Flair can't be losing to Tommy Rich.

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT!

Saturday Week 1 February 1991 (Taped Thursday)

Location: Richmond Coliseum (Mid Atlantic)

Attendance: 11,992

Overall Rating: B+

TV Rating: .91

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/Sting0.jpg

[Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome everyone to WCW Saturday Night following the Clash of the Champions! The show begins with the arrival of the man who is still the NWA World Heavyweight Champion! That man is Sting! Sting comes down and enters the ring and the first thing he does is thank each and every one of the little Stingers that have supported him throughout his battles with the Four Horsemen and Ric Flair, especially. Sting says that the win at the Clash means that he can move forward in his WCW career. He says that he wants to show that he will defend the NWA World title against anyone who wants a shot. Before he can continue, however, he is interrupted by the music of 'Theme To 2001: A Space Odyssey.']

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/RicFlair0.jpg

[Ric Flair comes walking out from the back and steps inside the ring looking across from Sting. He takes a microphone and the first thing that he tells Sting is that this will never be over as long as Sting holds the NWA World Heavyweight title. He says that this is his belt and it will always be his belt. He says that the next time he walks that aisle against Sting will be at WrestleWar where he announces that he and Sting will be captaining two different teams for War Games. He says that it will be a five on five event where Flair will pick four partners and Sting will pick four partners. Flair tells Sting that he's gonna bleed all night long in that match. He releases a 'Whooooooo!' right in the face of Sting and Sting responds with a right hand punch! Flair with a chop! Sting with a punch! Chop! Punch! Chop! Punch! Punch! Punch! Sting starts to get control, clotheslining Flair and sending him out of the ring. Sting stands tall in the ring as Flair looks on from ringside. The two Captains of the War Games teams look on toward each other as Sting raises up the NWA World Heavyweight title.]

Jerry Lawler vs. Owen Hart

[Our first match of the evening has Jerry Lawler leaving the commentary booth to step into the ring against Owen Hart. Replacing Lawler on commentary is Larry Zbyszko, who has some derogatory words to say about Owen Hart throughout this match. The match itself is a very good back and forth contest where both men are allowed to show off their skill inside the ring. Lawler scores a near fall when he brings a fist drop down to the skull of Hart. Lawler picks up Hart and tosses him outside the ring, joining him and running him into the guardrail. The action returns inside the ring where Lawler calls for the Piledriver. He puts Hart into position but instead Hart catches a second wind, elevating Lawler up and over! Hart gets the crowd behind him and catches the King with an enzuigiri! Hart climbs the turnbuckle and looks down at Lawler. He leaps and catches Lawler with a diving elbow drop! He goes for the legs but, as he does, Larry Zbyszko enters the ring and strikes Hart from behind, causing the immediate DQ.]

Winner: Owen Hart (Via Disqualification @ 9:47)

Match Rating: C+

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/KeithHart.jpg

[The bell sounds but Larry Zbyszko doesn't seem to care. Zbyszko catches Owen Hart with a stomp to the back and then lifts him and catches him with a swinging neckbreaker. Jerry Lawler laughs in the ring as he pulls himself up, grabbing Hart and setting him up for the Piledriver again. Larry Zbyszko climbs to the second turnbuckle and helps Jerry Lawler with the Spiked Piledriver on Owen Hart! Owen is laid out in the ring. Larry Zbyszko and Jerry Lawler walk away from the ring as Keith Hart comes running out to check on his brother. Keith helps roll his brother to the edge of the ring and then lets Owen lean against him as he helps Owen to the back with the crowd solidly behind the two brothers.]

[From there we move to the top of the ramp where Gordon Solie introduces Lex Luger! The NWA United States Champion comes out to a good ovation from the crowd. Gordon Solie congratulates The Total Package on his victory at the Clash of the Champions. However, Luger says that he doesn't feel like it was a real win because of how the match ended. He says that Nikita Koloff gave him his own American Nightmare when he was hit by that chain. He says that he wants some revenge. He wants another match with Nikita Koloff at WrestleWar! He says he will put his United States title on the line to get that shot. As Luger speaks, Nikita Koloff walks out from the back. Koloff asks Luger why he should give him another match. He says that he proved he is better than the so-called Total Package. Luger asks what Koloff wants to get the rematch. Koloff replies that he wants the chain to be legal in this next match. He says that he wants Lex Luger in the ring in a Russian Chain match! Luger agrees and says 'why wait?' before he throws a punch to Koloff! Koloff responds with a punch! A low blow kick gives Koloff the advantage. Instead of taking advantage, however, he backs off and laughs a guttural laugh, walking away from the fallen Lex Luger while Gordon Solie calls for some attention for Luger.]

NWA World Television Title Match

15 Minute Time Limit

Z-Man defends vs. Big Van Vader

[The NWA World Television title is on the line as Z-Man steps in the ring with his biggest test of the year in Big Van Vader with Paul E. Dangerously in the corner of Vader. Z-Man goes right after Vader as soon as the bell sounds. He leaps into the arms of Vader, throwing punches and kicks to the larger man. Z-Man lands on his feet as Vader staggers back into the corner. Z-Man bounces off one side and then lands a dropkick to Vader in the corner! Z-Man steps back and goes for a Superkick but Vader catches the leg and throws Z-Man backward. Vader moves in for a hard clothesline on Z-Man. Vader picks up Z-Man and whips him into a corner, catching him with forearm shots to both sides of the head as Z-Man tries to cover himself up. Vader catches Z-Man with a Vader Slam, setting Z-Man up in the corner. He climbs to the second turnbuckle -- Vader Bomb! Z-Man grabs his ribs, crying out in pain. Vader yanks Z-Man up and places him between his legs -- Release Powerbomb! Z-Man's body shakes in the ring with the pain running through him. The referee steps in and checks on Z-Man. He pulls Big Van Vader back as a sign goes up in the crowd: 'What time is it?!' The referee checks on Z-Man again and then calls for the bell! He's stopping the match! We have a new NWA World Television Champion!]

Winner: Big Van Vader (Via Referee Stoppage @ 5:32)

Match Rating: C+

[From there, we move to the backstage area and that security camera that shows the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Sting, The Steiner Brothers and Flyin' Brian. Sting shakes hands with each of them and says that he is grateful that they have come to him with the news of War Games. He says that he will be honored to have the Dudes With Attitudes on his team in War Games. He does a count, though, and realizes that they are one man short for the five on five at War Games. He says he has a few ideas for who their fifth man could be but that he wants to hear from his team. He says he wants them to work together to decide their teammate at WrestleWar. The other three men agree and they all shake hands again and walk off, heading inside a locker room together. Who will their partner be?]

Match #3

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/GeorgeSouth.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WWF_BR/VS.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TitoSantana91.jpg

George South vs. Tito Santana

[Our next match is a pretty decent contest as the veteran George South steps into the ring with Tito Santana. South gains an early advantage, throwing punches to Santana and backing him up in a corner. South whips Santana across the ring -- reversed! South hits the corner hard and bounces out, getting elevated with a back body drop! Santana waits for South to get to his feet and brings him down with a dropkick. Both men get to their feet and Santana brings South over with an armdrag and focuses in on an armbar. Santana uses some definite restholds throughout the match. But he maintains control throughout most of the contest. He brings South to the mat with a knee lift and then heads to the top turnbuckle. Santana perches up top, waiting for South to get to his feet -- diving crossbody! Santana only scores a two count but he is quick to his feet, pulling South up as well. He sends South to the ropes and bounces off the opposite side -- Flying Forearm Smash! Santana makes a cover: One, Two, Three! Tito Santana with a big victory on WCW Saturday Night!]

Winner: Tito Santana (Via Pinfall @ 6:27)

[A pre-taped video brings us to the home of the York Foundation. As always, Alexandra York is sitting at a table, typing in on a laptop. In the background, Michael Wallstreet and Terrence Taylor are doing some amateur wrestling. York looks up and shakes her head, saying 'You again?' She says that her men are working hard to make their comeback following the Clash of the Champions. She says that she is happy about the victory by Terrence Taylor but the loss by Michael Wallstreet was a difficult one to take. She says that they are not going to lose their focus, though. Their focus is going to be on becoming the new NWA World Tag Team champions! She says that the York Foundation will look great with gold around their waists. She calls out to her men and says it's time for a computerized strategy session. She tells the cameraman to find his own way out.]

[The show returns to the ring with the arrival of 'Ravishing' Rick Rude! The crowd boos as Rude walks out to the ring and steps inside, holding a microphone up for a moment. He tells them to cut his music. He says that what he would like to have right now is for you all fat, out-of-shape Richmond sweathogs to keep the noise down while he takes his robe off and shows the world what a real man is supposed to look like. He tells them to hit his music but it's not his music that plays. Instead, it's the music for Mr. USA Tony Atlas! Mr. USA walks out from the back, slapping high fives with the members of the crowd. He enters the ring and gets right up in the face of Rick Rude. Rude takes a step back and points at Atlas, saying that he's not what a real man is supposed to look like. Rude says HERE is what a real man is supposed to look like. He drops his microphone and removes his robe, swiveling his hips to boos from the crowd. Atlas flexes in front of Rude and the two engage in a posedown. The two men mimicking each others' flexes until Rude throws a punch to Atlas! Atlas shakes it off and throws a punch back to Rude! Several more punches and a clothesline sends Rude to the floor! Mr. USA's music plays as Tony Atlas stands and poses in the ring, staring down Rick Rude.]

Stan Hansen vs. Brian Pillman

[Our next contest is a match that can be considered a David versus Goliath match. Pillman goes right after Hansen in the early-goings of the match. He shows his speed against the Lariat, catching Hansen with a dropkick and then sending him out of the ring. Pillman looks down at Hansen, using the ropes and elevating himself up and over with a cross body onto the floor! Pillman plays to a cheering crowd. Pillman pulls Stan Hansen to his feet and Hansen grabs control, whipping Pillman into the guardrail and then running him face-first into the ring post. The action moves back inside the ring where Hansen is in control. Hansen catches Pillman with a scoop slam and then an elbow drop that gives him a two count. Hansen backs up and calls for the Lariat as Pillman is slow to get to his feet. Pillman rises up and ducks the Lariat attempt! Pillman rolls Hansen into a quick cradle: One, Two, Three! Brian Pillman with an upset victory!]

Winner: Brian Pillman (Via Pinfall @ 8:39)

[A video begins to play focusing on the brand new NWA World Tag Team Champions The Renegade Warriors! They are shown out in a Native American Reservation. Chris and Mark Youngblood deliver the title belts in front of a Native American Chief. The Chief says that he is proud of what the two men have accomplished. He says that they have honored their ancestors and honored their brother Jay Youngblood in that victory. However, he sees a dark cloud coming. He says that he sees a darkness in their future that he doesn't know if they can avoid. He says they need to stay here and meditate on this situation. He says that next week he will have one of the most powerful Native American Chiefs in their corner. Hopefully, they can avoid the darkness and move simply into the light.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/NickBockwinkel.jpg

[The crowd is a little shocked back around ringside when Nick Bockwinkel walks out from the back and steps inside the ring with a suit on. He is given a microphone and introduces himself as a former World Champion who was brought in to World Championship Wrestling to take things over. He says that his first major announcement here in WCW is that this promotion has decided to leave the authority of the National Wrestling Alliance. He thanks the members of the NWA Board Of Directors but he says that World Championship Wrestling is going on its own way. He says that next week right here on WCW Saturday Night there will be all brand new title belts given to each of the champions here. They will represent World Championship Wrestling title belts.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/Sting0.jpg

[speaking of the champions, Sting comes out from the back and walks right down to the ring, stepping inside and looking right into the eyes of Nick Bockwinkel. Sting says that he remembers when Nick Bockwinkel used to wrestle. He says that Bockwinkel was always nothing more than a cheat. He says that there were not many matches that Bockwinkel did not use help from a manager at ringside or a title belt or whatever was available at the time. However, Sting says that he is surprised that Bockwinkel is giving up the tradition of the National Wrestling Alliance. He says that he thought Bockwinkel was better than that. Bockwinkel says that he is glad that Sting is out here, actually. First of all, he says that the NWA thing is already finalized. We are now World Championship Wrestling. Deal with it. However, as one of his first acts here tonight, he has decided to put Sting in a match next week. He says that he wants to give Sting a little taste of what could happen at War Games. So, next week, Sting will be facing Ric Flair and Arn Anderson in a handicap match. Bockwinkel smiles and tells Sting good luck before walking off, leaving Sting standing there a moment with his jaw dropped.]

[From there, we move to the backstage area and that security camera as we see the members of the Four Horsemen walking along a hallway. The four men seem very confident tonight as they talk about their matches, including the Horsemen getting the opportunity to regain the NWA United States Tag Team titles. As they move around a corner, they come across Tommy Rich. Rich sets a cup down on a table as he sees the Horsemen and then the fight is on! Rich goes right after the Horsemen but that is pretty quickly put down as the four-on-one assault is too much for anyone to handle. Greg Valentine throws punches to the head of Rich and then backs off, letting Arn Anderson and Barry Windham take turns stomping the man known as Wildfire. The Horsemen grab Rich and begin carrying him out from the backstage area and down the aisle. They bash Rich's head against the guardrail and then Arn Anderson catches him with a short-arm elbow before slamming him against the ring apron. They move past a fan with a sign reading: 'Tommy Rich stole my donuts!' Greg Valentine has referee Tommy Young, rolling him in the ring as Arn Anderson rolls Tommy Rich in the ring. Ric Flair joins Rich and it looks like their match is going to start right now!]

Match #5

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/RicFlair0.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WWF_BR/VS.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TommyRich1.jpg

Ric Flair vs. Tommy Rich

[The bell sounds for this contest as Ric Flair does a little strut across the ring. He slowly makes a lackadaisical cover, the referee slowly dropping down to make the count: One, Two, Kickout! The crowd pops as Wildfire kicks out! Flair looks angry, picking up Rich and shoving him into a corner. He lights up Rich's chest with a knife-edge chop! Another chop! Another chop! Flair struts and then hits one more chop as Rich staggers out of the corner. Flair strikes the knee with a chop block, bringing Rich to the mat and he continues an assault on the knee. He yanks the knee hard and then drags Rich over to a corner. Flair climbs outside the ring and bangs Rich's knee against the ring post! Rich grabs his knee, crying out in pain! Flair rolls back in the ring and plays to a booing crowd before bouncing off the ropes -- diving knee drop! Flair makes another cover: One, Two, Foot On The Ropes! Rich barely survives! Flair continues his control until around the ten minute mark when he goes for the Figure Four. Rich turns the set-up into a small package, scoring a two count. Rich fires back with punches, using the ropes and the crowd to get him back into this contest! 'Wildfire' Tommy Rich lifts Flair up in the corner, ignoring the pain in his right knee! He moves up top and hooks Flair -- Superplex! Tommy Rich brings Flair down with a Superplex! A sign goes up in the air reading: 'That's just Rich!' Rich makes the cover: One, Two, Three, Four, Five! There is no count because the referee is distracted by Arn Anderson! Greg Valentine enters the ring and strikes Tommy Rich in the knee as Rich stands up. Valentine helps Flair to his feet and then exits the ring. The Nature Boy looks down at Rich and smiles, grabbing the legs -- Figure Four Leglock! Rich struggles in the hold but he has no choice but to submit!]

Winner: Ric Flair (Via Submission @ 13:45)

[From inside the ring, we move to that backstage security camera. It catches a fight going on between The Rock 'N' Roll Express and The Midnight Express! These two teams are continuing the war they had from WCW Clash of the Champions! Jim Cornette is seen in the background, cheering on Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane. Ricky Morton slams Bobby Eaton head-first into a wall. On the other side, Stan Lane strikes Robert Gibson with a Savate kick. Lane and Morton turn and go after each other with Jim Cornette winding up with his tennis racket. As Cornette prepares to strike, a bunch of officials and road agents step in, breaking things up here backstage. This might be broken up tonight at the moment but the war between these two teams is definitely far from over.]

NWA United States Tag Team Titles Match

The Steiner Brothers defend vs. Arn Anderson and Barry Windham

[Our main event this evening is a rematch from Clash of the Champions as The Steiner Brothers defend the U.S. Tag Team titles against two members of the Four Horsemen: Arn Anderson and Barry Windham. Just like with the match at the Clash, this match begins slowly with neither team wanting to make that first early mistake. Rick and Scott Steiner use some quick early tags to keep the fresh man in the ring, hitting some double teams on both Arn Anderson and Barry Windham. The Horsemen get angry but walk right into a double Steiner-Line by Rick Steiner! Rick runs around the ring, barking, getting the crowd into things. He drops on all fours and strikes Barry Windham with a few headbutts before he tags out to his brother. Scott grabs Windham around the waist -- Overhead Belly-To-Belly Suplex! The crowd pops loud as Scott goes a Steiner-Line but Windham ducks! Windham catches Scott with a lariat and then a Clawhold that scores a two count. Windham brings Scott over to the corner of the Horsemen and tags out to Arn Anderson. Windham and Anderson use quick double-teams in and out of the ring, focusing in on Scott Steiner. Arn Anderson locks Scott Steiner in an abdominal stretch. He stretches Scott in his corner, using Barry Windham's hand for leverage. The crowd boos this tactic, trying to tell the referee what is going on. The referee catches them after the third time, forcing the break. The distraction lets Scott Steiner lift Arn Anderson in a hip toss. Scott goes down to a knee, trying to catch a breath. Anderson gets up and charges in but Scott catches him with a Steiner-Line! The crowd goes wild! Scott picks up Anderson -- Double Underhook Powerbomb! Both men begin crawling toward their corners. Anderson tags in Windham and Scott tags in big brother Rick!]

[Rick Steiner comes running in with a Steiner-Line for Barry Windham! He catches Arn Anderson with a scoop powerslam! He gets back up and ducks a lariat attempt by Windham, getting a rear waistlock -- German Suplex! No bridge, all impact! Rick runs around the ring, barking. Rick heads to the top turnbuckle, perching and waiting for Windham. Arn Anderson shakes the ropes and Rick falls to the mat. The crowd boos Double A but he reaches in and tags himself in, moving over to the fallen Rick Steiner. He pulls Rick up and whips him to the ropes -- Spinebuster! Anderson says it's over and makes the cover: One, Two, Broken Up By Scott Steiner! Barry Windham comes in and begins doing battle with Scott Steiner! All four men are in the ring! Windham ducks a Steiner-Line attempt but the referee doesn't! The Steiner-Line catches the referee, knocking Nick Patrick outside the ring in the process. Anderson rolls out of the ring and grabs a chair, sliding back inside. He catches Scott Steiner with a chair shot to the back! Anderson turns and takes a Steiner-Line from Rick Steiner! Anderson drops the chair, staggering backward. He falls over the top rope to the floor...and the bell sounds?!?! He went over the top rope where referee Nick Patrick had fallen and the referee is disqualifying The Steiner Brothers for sending Arn Anderson over the top rope! He obviously didn't see enough to know what happened. But Arn Anderson and Barry Windham win by DQ!]

Winners: Arn Anderson and Barry Windham (Via Disqualification @ 19:46)

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TullyBlanchard.jpghttp://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/Sting0.jpg

[Once the ring and ringside area is cleared, we have Tully Blanchard walking down to the ring to boos from the crowd. Blanchard has what appears to be a magazine in his right hand and the microphone is in his left hand. He steps inside the ring and raises the magazine, letting everyone know that this magazine represents a top standard in their industry. This magazine is Pro Wrestling Illustrated. He says that they have named their Wrestler Of The Year in 1990 and that man is Sting. He opens the magazine to where the picture is of Sting holding up the plaque. He rips that picture out of the magazine and says that this is what he thinks of the champion. He rips the picture into small bits and throws them up like confetti. He says that he said he would be calling out Sting tonight and he is calling out the World Champion right now. Sting walks out from the back and walks to the ring with no title belt this time. He steps inside the ring and tells Tully Blanchard that this has been a crazy night for even him. He says that he understands that Tully Blanchard wants a shot at his title belt. He says that he has never been one to back down from a challenge. However, he, also, says that Tully has been hiding behind other people so that he hasn't reached his potential. But he says that if Tully Blanchard wants a shot, then it's gonna be showtime! Blanchard smiles and says that he definitely wants a shot at that title but after tonight he has something else to add. He says that he has a little history with War Games and at WrestleWar he is going to be with one of the teams.]

[The Four Horsemen walk out from the back and walk toward the ring. Sting definitely sees that he is outnumbered. Instead of backing away like some might do, Sting goes right after Tully Blanchard, throwing punches! The Horsemen speed up their arrival and it is quick to see that the numbers advantage definitely give the Horsemen an advantage. Arn Anderson and Barry Windham hold Sting as Tully Blanchard throws a few punches. Before they can injure Sting, though, here come The Dudes With Attitudes! The Steiner Brothers and Flyin' Brian enter the ring and the numbers game is a little more even! Pillman trades shots with Greg Valentine, The Steiner Brothers do battle with Arn Anderson and Barry Windham, leaving Sting to deal with two men in Tully Blanchard and Ric Flair. Sting does his best against the double team but Blanchard and Flair go right after him two-on-one. Pillman knocks Valentine out of the ring and then leaps over the top rope on top of him! Inside the ring, the Horsemen start to gain some control. Things look bleak for the Dudes With Attitudes.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/TitoSantana91.jpg

[When here comes Tito Santana! The crowd cheers as Santana rushes down to the ring and goes right after the Horsemen! He enters the ring along with Brian Pillman and they start to turn the tide! Santana catches Arn Anderson with a Flying Forearm Smash! He has one for Barry Windham as well! Santana brings down Flair with an arm drag and then a dropkick for Tully Blanchard! The Dudes With Attitudes start to fire back and this ends with the Four Horsemen and Tully Blanchard being sent outside the ring to the floor. Tito Santana helps the members of the DwA up to their feet and they all stare down toward the Horsemen and Blanchard. The show ends with Santana shaking hands with The Dudes With Attitudes and them all playing to the crowd.]

NWA World Television Title Match

15 Minute Time Limit

Z-Man defends vs. Big Van Vader

Comments: I don't see Vader carrying around the TV title, so I'll go Z-Man by DQ.

NWA World Television Title Match

15 Minute Time Limit

Z-Man defends vs. Big Van Vader

Comments: Z-Man by DQ. Vader doesn't need to be TV champ. I see Vader slowly starting his hunt for the WCW Worlds title.

My plan from the beginning of the diary was to have Big Van Vader as the next World Television Champion. While I know that some of you might not see him as TV Champion material (i.e. above the belt), I think he will do pretty good in that role as we move forward, facing off with anyone who wants a title shot.

NWA United States Tag Team Titles Match

The Steiner Brothers defend vs. Arn Anderson and Barry Windham

Comments: I just can't picture Arn and Barry being proud to carry the US Tag titles. These guys all need to be going after the Warriors. It's honestly like you've flipped the divisions, as the World contenders are going for the US titles and the US contenders are holding the World titles.

I have to admit that the last comment made me laugh, Beejus. I am sure that it looks like that way right now. However, hopefully, I can build up the Renegade Warriors to prove why I gave them the belts. I do agree, though, that all the teams should be headed after The Renegade Warriors. But who will step in as contenders to the U.S. Tag titles? The plot thickens.

Fun Fan Signs:

That's just Rich! ("that's just Rich" could totally be Tommy's new catchphrase. I could see him doing it like an 80's version of "DAMN", where he walks in on something happening, shrugs his shoulders and says "That's just Rich!")

Comments On Last Show: Loved the Clash, as indicated by my nominating it for SOTM this month. The Sting-Flair match was written superbly, and the whole show was just done well.

If you're out of options for Sting, you could always have him face the Red Scorpion, who is like the Black Scorpion but is more Scorpion-er than the last! :p

I do appreciate the Spotlight of the Month nomination. Though I didn't win, the nomination always makes me feel great. I am glad you liked the Sting/Flair match in particular as it is the one that I spent that much more focus on because it is the main event. Maybe Rich becomes the Red Scorpion? LOL.

George South vs. Tito Santana

Comments: Tito is Upper Midcard in WWF, he'll be hard to knock here, plus guy is actually above-average in the ring.

Tito Santana, to me, was one of my favorites growing up. I think he's a guy that definitely would have fit in more with WCW than the WWF. Though he did do well as IC champion in WWF.

Comments On Last Show:Was shocked to see the Renegade Warriors win the World Tag Titles. Always thought they were more in the United Tag Team title hunt(They are a good team but I just never seen them as World tag champions)Glad you are throwing some suprises in there though,so it's not like the same booking over and over. Also can't wait to hear what Bockwinkles announcement is

I hope that you enjoyed the Nick Bockwinkel announcement. Welcome to the new boss here in WCW. As I said earlier, I hope that I can work on making The Renegade Warriors a top tag team here.

Stan Hansen vs. Brian Pillman

Comments: Dude, if Brian Pillman wins here I riot. :)

Please don't riot too badly! LOL. I think I did enough in the match itself to make both of them look good. Pillman only winning with a cradle gets me something, right? LOL.

Ric Flair vs. Tommy Rich

Comments: This is actually an interesting matchup because you've booked Tommy Rich to win quite a bit. However, Flair can't be losing to Tommy Rich.

I am glad to see that there's a little bit of a thought there on Tommy Rich winning the match. He didn't have so much of a chance with the attack by the Four Horsemen before the match but I hope I did enough to get the crowd behind him. After all, he did beat Harley Race at the Clash.

WCW MAIN EVENT! (B-Show)

Sunday Week 1 February 1991 (Taped Friday)

Location: Raleigh Country Armory (Mid-Atlantic)

Attendance: 1,000

Overall Rating: B-

TV Rating: .07

The announcers, Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes, welcome everyone to WCW Main Event. Dusty's son, Dustin Rhodes, comes down to the ring to open the show. He says that he wants a match with either member of the York Foundation tonight! Instead of getting the York Foundation, he gets Nick Bockwinkel. Bockwinkel says that tonight Dustin will not be getting the York Foundation. Instead, he will be taking on an old rival of the Rhodes Family: Tully Blanchard. Bockwinkel smiles and wishes Dustin good luck tonight.

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Bob Backlund defeated The Minotaur in 6:24 by submission with a Crossface Chickenwing...C-

From the ring to the ringside area, Gordon Solie meets up with Bob Backlund. Solie says he is proud of the victory tonight but also says that he knows that Backlund has an announcement tonight. Backlund thanks Solie and says that he is announcing the beginning of the Backlund Wrestling Challenge. He says that he is opening the Challenge to anyone who wants to step inside the ring with him. He says that the match will take place entirely in the ring. If you exit the ring or throw the opponent outside the ring, you are automatically disqualified. He says that he welcomes the challenge.

Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes talk about the upcoming match between George South and Brad Armstrong. Ross says that both men are veterans in the ring and that this should be a great slobberknocker of a match.

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Brad Armstrong defeated George South in 5:34 by pinfall with a Side Russian Legsweep...C-

We move to the interview area where Gordon Solie is standing by with Tully Blanchard. Solie asks Blanchard about his match with Dustin Rhodes tonight. Blanchard says that he has been beating the Rhodes Family for years. He says that tonight when he takes on Junior there will be nothing different inside the ring.

A music video is shown to hype the arrival of the newest WCW tag team called The Next Generation. This features two men who have a family heritage in the business. These two men are shown wrestling both as a tag team and in singles matches during this video. A voiceover says that neither of these men are beloved but they have amazing ability. They can go far in this business.

In a match that had some good action but not much in the way of heat, The Rock 'n' Roll Express defeated The Next Generation in 10:13 when Robert Gibson defeated Art Barr by pinfall with a Double dropkick...C-

Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes talk about the main event. The match between Tully Blanchard and Dustin Rhodes is up next! Dusty promises to watch his son's back tonight.

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Tully Blanchard defeated Dustin Rhodes in 11:07 by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage...B-

Tully Blanchard scores a cheating victory over Dustin Rhodes. He gets his arm raised in victory and plays to a booing crowd. He makes the 'belt' motion at his waist as the show comes to a close. Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes remind everyone to tune in this Saturday night for WCW Saturday Night!

Wrestling Observer Newsletter

World Championship Wrestling

-We have come off a very big show last week from Richmond, Virginia. It was announced that Ric Flair and Sting will captain opposing teams at War Games at WrestleWar 1991. New Head of World Championship Wrestling Nick Bockwinkel announced that Sting is going to get a taste of War Games tonight as he takes on Ric Flair and Arn Anderson in a handicap match.

-Speaking of Nick Bockwinkel, his announcement that World Championship Wrestling has left the NWA has sent shockwaves through the wrestling world. He said that this show will begin with him giving new belts to the champions here in WCW. The only ones that will not be handed out by him are the WCW World Tag Team titles.

-Those WCW World Tag Team titles will be handed to the Renegade Warriors by a man who has been described as one of the greatest Chiefs in Native American history. Who will this man be? Will Doom have something to say about this? Make sure you tune in and find out!

-Tommy Rich has vowed that he will get revenge on the Four Horsemen for their backstage assault of him last week. This week, he gets the opportunity for a taste of that revenge when he takes on Barry Windham. Windham, though, has told us that he has no concern about Tommy Rich and that Wildfire will fall to the might of the Four Horsemen.

-We will see the World Championship Wrestling return/debut of Ivan Koloff as he teams with his nephew Nikita in tag team action. This tag team action will see them facing off with the high flying duo of The Lightning Express. Can the Candyman and the second generation wrestler battle against the might of the Russians?

-Plus Rick Rude and Tony Atlas will be in the building, The York Foundation will be around, The Backlund Wrestling Challenge debuts and more. Make sure you tune in to WCW Saturday Night!

Comments On Last Show:Liked how you put Tito in the mix with the Horsemen ,Blanchard and DWA. Tito I thought was very talented but was very underated. Also like how you are pulling away from the Nwa and establishing WCW as its own promotion.

Jerry Lawler and Larry Zbyszko vs. The Hart Brothers (Keith and Owen Hart)

Comments: Keith looks like weak link here plus this would be a good spot to give Larry one over Owen.

WCW World Television Title Match

15 Minute Time Limit

Big Van Vader defends vs. Z-Man

Comments: Vader isn´t dropping the belt this quickly and not back to Z-Man.

Backlund Wrestling Challenge

Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker vs. Bob Backlund

Comments: I would assume that this isn´t just one-off thing and thus Backlund wins here.

The Russians (Nikita and Ivan Koloff) vs. The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong and Tim Horner)

Comments: Nikita is in big storyline so hard to see him dropping one here.

Barry Windham vs. Tommy Rich

Comments: I could actually see Rich taking this one after how well he did with Flair but I still think that Windham is the "safer bet".

Handicap Match

Ric Flair and Arn Anderson vs. Sting

Comments: If Flair wouldn´t be here, I could see Sting getting somekind of DQ win but since he is, I think it would hurt Flair´s standing a bit too much if he cannot get a win with these odds so Sting loses after hard fought fight.

Jerry Lawler and Larry Zbyszko vs. The Hart Brothers (Keith and Owen Hart)

Comments: Keith is no Bret, so I see him as the expendable part of this match.

WCW World Television Title Match

15 Minute Time Limit

Big Van Vader defends vs. Z-Man

Comments: I predict death.

Backlund Wrestling Challenge

Sgt. Buddy Lee Parker vs. Bob Backlund

Comments: Now, will Bob stay classy or go crazy? That's the part I'm interested in!

The Russians (Nikita and Ivan Koloff) vs. The Lightning Express (Brad Armstrong and Tim Horner)

Comments: Isn't Ivan like a hundred years old?

Barry Windham vs. Tommy Rich

Comments: Another job for Tommy to do.

Handicap Match

Ric Flair and Arn Anderson vs. Sting

Comments: As Zergon said, I can't see them not getting the win with these kinds of odds. Sting will put up a great fight, but in the end, it's a Horsemen night.

Fun Fan Signs:

Flying Burrito!

Comments On Last Show: Interesting to see Bockwinkel as the evil authority figure, as back in those days that wasn't much of a "thing" like it is nowadays. Then again, it wasn't a "thing" yet in 1995 when I did it with him, either :p WarGames should be a great one with that sort of crew involved. I was thinking that maybe you were going to just drop it to a 4v4 like they did IRL, but I'm glad to see the traditional 5v5 win out!

OOC:

Good morning, everyone. This post will be simultaneously posted to both my WCW 1991 diary and to my WWE 2014 diary just in case there's some who read one but not the other. I am writing this post to inform my readers that I am going to be going on (hopefully) a brief hiatus from writing. How brief this hiatus will be, I am not sure. It could last a day, a week, a month, a year.

Without getting too personal into the reasons behind this hiatus, my Landlady passed away at the beginning of this month. She left the rental properties to her son and we (my family and I) were told that we have until the end of February to find a new home due to him wanting to sell the rental properties. That means that there are a lot of things that I have to focus on, including finding a new place to live so that my family and I are not out on the street come March. This is not to mention the holiday season coming up.

But I can tell you that this hiatus has nothing to do with any loss of love for either diary or for writing on this board in general. I can honestly say that I love this board and most of the people here. I may not comment in many diaries any more because I have simply gotten too busy in other things to do so. However, I am still a reader and maybe even more-so a reader now as it takes less time for me to read than it does for me to write.

I also want to say a thank you to my readers and predictors and to the people who mentioned me in the GDS Dynasty Show. Sometimes, I think about whether or not I've worn out my welcome here and then I see the love from the other writers and readers here and that definitely renews my spirit and my motivation.

I will definitely be back in some form or another. We will see what happens in the future.

-Scott

He uses quick rope breaks and time-outs and times outside the ring to catch his breath. All the while, Rich seems to be getting angrier and angrier. Rich takes control inside the ring when he pops Windham with a running elbow smash for a two count. Rich gets the crowd behind him and locks in a sleeper. The sleeper is soon broken behind the referee's back when Windham catches Rich with a low blow kick. Rich releases the sleeper and drops to his knees, clutching himself. Windham takes control and sends Rich to the mat with a flapjack, scoring a two count. The Horsemen member maintains that control, using moves like a hip toss, a scoop slam and an elbow drop. Windham hooks Rich into a Clawhold and Rich tries to break free. Windham pushes Rich down toward the mat and Rich's arms flail to try and get free. The music, known as Turbo Charged, begins to play as the crowd rises to their feet. Sting comes running down toward the ring, dropping the WCW World Heavyweight title belt at ringside before sliding in the ring. He goes right up to Flair and Anderson, throwing punches and ducking punches! The crowd begins a 'Sting' chant as he gets control, bringing Arn Anderson down with a one-handed bulldog. He whips Flair into a corner -- Stinger Splash! Sting goes for an early Scorpion Deathlock but he gets grabbed by Arn Anderson and whipped into a corner. Anderson moves in but Sting is prepared and reverses things in the corner. He climbs up and begins throwing punches down on Anderson! The crowd counts along but he only gets to six before he is interrupted by Ric Flair, who yanks him down to the mat hard. Flair checks on Anderson and Anderson moves to the apron as Flair turns his attention to Sting. Flair puts a couple of boots to the skull of Sting and then rakes his boot across the forehead of the WCW World Heavyweight Champion. Flair tags in The Enforcer and Sting is in trouble as quick tags are made to keep a fresh Horseman in the ring but Sting has no one to tag. He is locked in the ring by himself. Over the next few minutes he has small bursts of momentum but Flair and Anderson always seem to have a way to bring him back down, usually with cheating and double team moves. The momentum of the match takes a twist around the thirteen minute mark when Flair goes for his patented knee drop and catches nothing but the mat. WCW MAIN EVENT! (B-Show)

Sunday Week 2 February 1991 (Taped Friday)

Location: Center Stage Theater (South East)

Attendance: 1,000

Overall Rating: C+

TV Rating: .07

The announcers, Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes, welcome everyone to WCW Main Event. Tito Santana comes out from the back and walks to the ring to a good ovation from the crowd. The first thing he says is that he owes an apology to Sting for not being there on WCW Saturday Night. He says that he was forced out of the building by Nick Bockwinkel. But he says that it is not going to stop him from being on Team Sting at War Games. These words bring out 'Wildfire' Tommy Rich. Rich tells him that his words are just so rich. He says that he is the one that was back with the training staff after getting his butt handed to him by Barry Windham in a sneak attack. But he says that tonight the two of them have to work together because they are facing the former WCW World Tag Team Champions Doom. Santana and Rich end up shaking hands and saying that they will do what they have to do tonight.

Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes put over the fact that tonight we are going to see Michael Wallstreet take on Junkyard Dog in what should be an excellent match. Rhodes says that he puts his money on JYD beating that York Foundation member.

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, The Next Generation defeated The Southern Boys in 5:51 when Eddie Guerrero defeated Tracy Smothers by pinfall with a Brainbuster...C-

The video that was shown at the end of WCW Saturday Night plays here on WCW Main Event.

We are taken to a pre-taped promo that features 'The Living Legend' Larry Zbyszko. He says that he knows that facing Owen Hart in a Submissions match would be a risky investment. After all, the young and the useless punk kid was taught in the Dungeon. But he accepts the challenge. He says that he is going to further educate Owen Hart in the art of submission wrestling at WrestleWar.

In a bout that had solid in-ring action but non-existent crowd heat, Owen Hart defeated The Minotaur in 6:06 by submission with a Dungeon Lock...D+

We are taken to a backstage area where WCW President Nick Bockwinkel is sitting down with the man called Sting. Bockwinkel tells Sting that because he is in War Games this month it might end up being over a month before he defends the WCW World Heavyweight title. He says that, as WCW President, he cannot allow that to happen. So on this upcoming episode of WCW Saturday Night, one day before WrestleWar, Sting will defend his title against an opponent of Bockwinkel's choosing. That mystery opponent will be revealed on the show. Sting says that's fine because he is willing to defend the belt against anyone at any time. He says that he is a fighting champion. So this Saturday night he is going to stick it to Nick Bockwinkel and his choice.

We move to a pre-taped interview with Alexandra York and Michael Wallstreet. They hype the upcoming match with Junkyard Dog. York says that Wallstreet will defeat Dog in less than ten minutes. She says that with the power of the computer there is no one in WCW that can defeat the York Foundation.

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Michael Wallstreet defeated Junkyard Dog in 9:46 by pinfall with a Wall Street Crash...C

Following the victory by Wallstreet, he is immediately assaulted by Dustin Rhodes, who came running in from the back. Rhodes brings Wallstreet down to the mat and begins throwing punches and Bionic Elbows to Wallstreet. Officials come running in from the back and pull Rhodes off. On commentary, Dusty Rhodes cheers on his son.

As the ring is cleared, Jim Ross and Dusty Rhodes hype the main event tonight where Doom takes on Tito Santana and Tommy Rich. What a main event this should be!

In a match that had some good action and average heat, Tito Santana and Tommy Rich defeated Doom in 11:16 when Tito Santana defeated Ron Simmons by pinfall with a Flying Forearm Smash...C+

With the match over, Tommy Rich and Tito Santana celebrate their victory. Both of them get their arms raised but they keep eyeing up each other. Both men want to be a part of Team Sting at War Games. But who will be the final member?

===

Glad to see another show pop in, too bad about your upcoming troubles but hopefully (for your own personal sake) you can get things straightened out quickly. The new format looks very nice and neat :)

Thanks a lot for the comment, Beejus. I am hoping that these personal issues do get worked out soon. But I know that it's going to be a process and I know that this is a new adventure in my life. That being said, I am glad that you like the new format. I knew from before I had all the stuff happen to me that I wanted to start writing things out completely, rather than the summary format I used before. I hope that everyone enjoys the new fleshed out format. Of course, I will still use the small format for WCW Main Event as it is a B-Show and it makes that show look different than WCW Saturday Night. That is one of the little things that I hope stands out.

Good morning,

This is another post that will be posted to both this diary and my WWE 2014 diary. After giving this a lot of thinking, I have decided to make an ending to both my WCW 1991 and my WWE 2014 diary. The WWE 2014 diary lasted four months, the WCW 1991 diary lasted only two months.

I would like to give my best reason for bringing the diaries to an end, rather than just giving them the hiatus that I spoke about previously. The best reason that I have is that if I believe that the diaries are still running (even in a hiatus) then I am going to force myself to find the time to write for them. For anyone who has written a long-term diary, I am sure that they all understand this fact. The diaries become an obsession to me. I spend a lot of waking moments thinking about my next move, even right before I go to sleep at night. I need to curb that right now as I move into a new phase in my life in r/t.

Thank you to everyone who has read, predicted and commented on these two fun diaries. If there are any people from a wrestling company reading this, I am available to write. :)

This doesn't mean a complete end to my diary writing here on the GDS board. It just means that right now and for the next few months I will not begin a new diary or anything of the sort. I need to take this time for real life. Thank you to everyone for understanding that real life definitely takes a front seat.

-Scott

Honestly, while I love reading all your diaries, the best ones are always the C-Verse ones. I'll be waiting with baited breath for your next work, but hope you trek back to the C-Verse.

Thank you for the comments, KYE. I really do appreciate and read all of them. I am doing a private game right now inside the 2014 version of the Cornellverse in my free time. It is with Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling with Chris Caulfield as my user character. I edited to make a TV show for PSW each week on The Pop Network called Extreme Wrestling.

So that may end up being my next diary. Though I cannot guarantee when it will start as we are still so focused on the move. But I have been home in recent times with strep throat, then bronchitis and now pneumonia. So that has given me a little free time due to not being able to do too much.

WCW SATURDAY NIGHT!

Saturday Week 3 February 1991 (Taped Thursday)

Location: Will Rogers Coliseum (Mid South)

Attendance: 7,000

Overall Rating: B-

TV Rating: .86

[Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler welcome everyone to this edition of WCW Saturday Night from the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas. What an amazing show we have for you this evening. 'Turbo Charged' kicks things off and out from the back comes the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting! The crowd goes absolutely wild as he high fives the fans in the first row before climbing the stairs and entering the ring. He has a microphone in hand and begins pacing for just a moment before raising the microphone to his lips.]

[sting:] "There's no sense in waiting. So, Tommy Rich, Tito Santana come on down and we'll get the War Games team settled."

[The attention turns to the entranceway as Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler speculate on who will be the final member of Sting's War Games team. They each select a different wrestler as both Tommy Rich and Tito Santana make their entrances. They stare each other down for a long moment and then shake hands with each other and with Sting.]

[sting:] "Gentlemen, this was a tough decision for me. Both of you have the experience and the edge necessary to be a part of my team. I consulted the other members of the team to make the final decision. Whoever's arm I lift right now will be the final member of Team Sting at War Games."

[sting looks between the two of the potential members and steps right in between them. His eyes flick back and forth between both Tommy Rich and Tito Santana. There is a moment of pause and then he raises the arm of Tito Santana! Santana will be the final member of Team Sting at War Games! Sting offers a handshake to Tommy Rich, who looks very disappointed.]

[Nick Bockwinkel:] "Wait a second, wait a second."

[The crowd boos as the WCW Authority Figure Nick Bockwinkel steps out from the back and stands at the top of the ramp. Bockwinkel, of course, is dressed in a finely tailored suit and adjusts his glasses as a devious smile slips over his lips.]

[Nick Bockwinkel:] "Mr. Rich, before you shake that man's hand, the hand of the man who turned you down for his team, I want to fill you in on something. You see, when I was sitting in the back trying to make a decision on who would face Sting tonight, a light bulb clicked on in my head. Since I am the smartest person in WCW, it's not surprising that I came to this conclusion. Tonight Sting will defend the WCW World Heavyweight title against...Tommy Rich. Good luck, gentlemen."

[bockwinkel exits to the back after this revelation! Tommy Rich meets Sting in the eyes and then looks down at the WCW World Heavyweight title belt. Rich meets Sting in the eyes again and then does the 'belt' motion, showing that, no matter what, he wants that title belt. Rich, surprisingly, offers Sting a handshake. After a moment, Sting accepts and this match tonight should show some good sportsmanship. Rich shakes hands with Santana and the three men exit the ring together.]

Michael Wallstreet vs. Dustin Rhodes

[The opening match this evening on WCW Saturday Night features the Computerized Man of the '90's, Michael Wallstreet, against his rival 'The Natural' Dustin Rhodes. A pretty decent opening match here between the veteran and the much younger wrestler in Rhodes. Wallstreet uses some tactics to definitely frustrate his younger opponent, such as using the ropes to keep Rhodes back off him. Wallstreet takes control, listening to the instructions from his manager, Alexandra York. Wallstreet begins choking Rhodes on the middle rope for the four seconds he is allowed, listening to the instructions from Alexandra York on that side. A sign is raised behind Alexandra York that reads: 'Michael Wallstreet is a REAL AMERICAN!' Wallstreet tries to set up Rhodes for a belly-to-back suplex but Rhodes gets a surge of life. He catches Wallstreet with a couple of bionic elbows and a double clothesline brings them both to the mat. As both of them are trying to get to their feet, Alexandra York is waving to the back. Rhodes gets to his feet and moves into a corner, ready to charge Wallstreet. Terrence Taylor comes out from the back and hits ringside. He grabs Rhodes by the boots, tripping him up and then crotching him on the ring post. This is in full view of the referee, causing a disqualification!]

Winner: Dustin Rhodes (Via Disqualification @ 6:03)

[The match is over but The York Foundation doesn't seem to care. Terrence Taylor and Alexandra York enter the ring and Taylor begins putting boots to the skull of Dustin Rhodes. Taylor yanks up Rhodes and sends him to the ropes -- Five Arm! The crowd boos as Alexandra York raises up Taylor's arm. Not to be outdone, Michael Wallstreet pulls up Rhodes and begins setting him up for the Stock Market Crash. But the crowd begins to cheer as Dusty Rhodes comes running in from the back. Dusty slides in and begins firing Bionic Elbows to both Michael Wallstreet and Terrence Taylor! He turns to Alexandra York and hesitates. She keeps him distracting and Wallstreet strikes with a clothesline to the back of the head of Dusty Rhodes. Wallstreet picks up Dusty and sends him to the ropes -- Leaping Clothesline! Wallstreet puts the boots to Dusty, while Taylor lays out Dustin Rhodes with a neckbreaker. Dusty and Dustin are laid down side by side as The York Foundation stands over them with Alexandra York raising their arms in victory tonight.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/PaulOrndorff.jpg

[From the action in the ring, we move to a video being played. This one features an old-school rock ballad in the background as we once again are shown Paul Orndorff lifting weights. He has a spotter add some more weights on there and continues to work, lifting them up and down. The sound of his breathing is the main thing heard over the rock ballad. Then he lets his spotter try to take the weights and the spotter drops them. Luckily, they are dropped on the ground and not back on top of Orndorff. The spotter looks crazed as he cannot seem to understand how Orndorff can lift those weights. Orndorff sits up and looks at the camera.]

[Paul Orndorff:] "For those of you who still don't know, my name is Paul Orndorff. They used to call me Mr. Wonderful. They used to call me the strongest man in professional wrestling. Eventually, they will call me a champion. I am here in World Championship Wrestling for one purpose: to face the best. Soon, I will be here in WCW. Soon, you will know the power of Paul Orndorff."

[Orndorff grabs a towel and wipes the sweat from his brow. He looks into the camera for just a moment before standing up and walking off as the camera fades to black.]

WCW World Television Title Match

15 Minutes Time Limit

Big Van Vader defends vs. Ranger Ross

[This match starts with Vader and Ranger Ross coming face-to-face with one another. Outside the ring, Paul E. Dangerously says that this is going to be quick. He seems definitely prophetic as this match is dominated by Big Van Vader. Vader sends Ross to the ropes and brings him down with the Vader Attack. He throws up his 'V' signal, yelling at the fans and asking 'Who's The Man?' Vader picks up Ross and tosses him in a corner, beginning to throw forearm smashes to the head of Ross. Ross is beaten down all the way to the bottom of the corner. Vader laughs and picks up Ross. He catches Ross with the Sky High Chokeslam, setting him up near the corner. Vader climbs to the second rope -- Vader Bomb! Vader places two hands on the chest of Ranger Ross: One, Two, Three! A successful WCW World Television title defense by Big Van Vader!]

Winner: Big Van Vader (Via Pinfall @ 4:08)

[in a security camera taken backstage, we are shown The Russians in a brawl with Lex Luger! Luger is fighting back against two tough men but the numbers game is definitely not something that Luger can change. Nikita Koloff takes down Luger with a Russian Sickle and then begins putting the boots to the ribs of the Total Package. The Koloffs speak to each other in Russian and Ivan Koloff pulls out a full length Russian flag. He holds it up high, drawing in some boos from the background as the fans do not like this at all. Ivan hands half of the flag to Nikita and the two place the Russian flag over top of Lex Luger. They raise their fists and then walk off as Luger coughs underneath the flag, in obvious pain as we are only one day away from WrestleWar and a match between Lex Luger and Nikita Koloff.]

Eddie Guerrero vs. Tony Atlas

[Our third match of the evening features the power of Tony Atlas against the speed of international wrestler Eddie Guerrero. Jim Ross says that this match might end up being bowling shoe ugly if Atlas can get his hands on Guerrero. The man with the legacy in this business does not go down easily, showing some definite skill both high flying and on the mat during this contest. Guerrero actually scores a near fall with a flying headscissors on Atlas. Guerrero goes for a second one but is caught by Atlas. Atlas brings Guerrero down with a power bomb. Atlas plays to the crowd and catches Guerrero with a headbutt. Atlas is able to grab Guerrero and lock on a Full Nelson. Guerrero struggles in the hold. However, within moments, Guerrero must submit to the power and strength of Mr. USA Tony Atlas.]

[Tony Atlas scores a victory tonight. However he may not look like a winner as he gets assaulted from behind by Rick Rude! The Ravishing One has the blue sequined robe on and smashes Atlas head-first into the turnbuckle. Rude lifts Atlas and sets him up on the top turnbuckle. He climbs up with him and shows some amazing strength of his own as he brings Atlas crashing to the mat with a belly-to-back superplex! Rude gets to his feet and puts a few boots to the skull of Atlas. He picks up Atlas and turns him around -- Rude Awakening! The Rude Awakening neckbreaker has Atlas down on the mat once again. Rude stands over him and swivels his hips, drawing boos from this crowd and a smile from the Ravishing One. Rude looks to the crowd briefly before climbing out of the ring and heading to the back as Atlas moves just a little bit in the ring but the Rude Awakening is enough to put any man down and out.]

[From the attack by Rick Rude, we head to a pre-taped interview where Jim Cornette is standing between Bobby Eaton and Stan Lane. The group known as The Midnight Express are standing in front of a WCW logo as Jim Cornette is the one with the microphone.]

[Jim Cornette:] "The Steiner Brothers? Are you kidding me? Those two knuckleheads are nothing compared to my Midnight Express. You've got Beautiful Bobby Eaton, who is a better wrestler than Scott Steiner. You've got Sweet Stan Lane who is much better looking than that Dog-Faced Gremlin Rick Steiner. Tonight the rightful owners of the WCW United States Tag Team Titles take those belts back around their slim and trim waists. Oh somebody better call my momma and make sure she's watching because tonight the Midnight Express walk away with the gold."

[Eaton and Lane pose in the background as Jim Cornette speaks. At the end, they go into one more Midnight Express pose before we fade to black and then back to the ring.]

Backlund Wrestling Challenge

'Dangerous' Dan Spivey vs. Bob Backlund

[Our next contest is part of the Backlund Wrestling Challenge. This is a match that takes place entirely inside the ring. Backlund is definitely giving up some power to 'Dangerous' Dan Spivey as he looks across the ring. Backlund offers a handshake but Spivey shoves Backlund backward instead. Spivey catches Backlund with a couple of knees to the ribs but Backlund grabs the third knee shot and twists, bringing Spivey down to the mat. Backlund keeps the match on the mat during most of the less than five minutes this match takes place. At one point, Spivey does get back to his feet and catches Backlund with a few forearm shots to the head. He goes for a Bulldog but Backlund manages to slip free of the headlock. Backlund rolls Spivey up: One, Two, Three!]

[Once again, we move to those security cameras backstage. This time, it would seem we are on a more hand-held camera as the point of view is not static. In this backstage area, we see the four members of the Four Horsemen: Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham and Greg Valentine. The camera moves around to show the group huddled around a fallen Tito Santana. They are each taking turns stomping on Santana, warning him that this is what it's going to be like at War Games. Arn Anderson picks up Santana and sets him up in position for the Anderson DDT.]

[Tommy Rich:] "What in the world?"

[Tommy Rich sees what's happening and runs his way into the battle. He leaps in and begins throwing punches but the numbers game quickly catches up to him. Barry Windham locks a Claw on Rich, showing the move that his father taught him. The Claw brings Rich down to the floor as Santana is simply dropped in favor of Tommy Rich. Windham releases the Claw and Anderson picks up Rich -- Anderson Spinebuster on the floor! Rich cries out in pain, holding his back. Will he even be able to fight Sting tonight for the WCW World Heavyweight title? The attention of the Four Horsemen turns to look around but Tito Santana is nowhere to be found. They all shrug and Flair calls off the troops, headed into a locker room area.]

WCW United States Tag Team Titles Match

The Steiner Brothers defend vs. The Midnight Express

[A big tag team contest as the WCW United States Tag Team titles are defended by The Steiner Brothers against The Midnight Express. As one would expect, this is a great tag team match between these two experienced teams. Eaton and Lane show a definite confidence in this match with Jim Cornette at ringside. They score a two count on Scott Steiner when they drop him with a double flapjack. Stan Lane catches Scott with a martial arts kick and then tags in Bobby Eaton. Eaton heads to the top turnbuckle, waiting for Scott Steiner to get to his feet. Eaton leaps -- Missile Dropkick misses! Eaton crashes with the back of his head on the mat. Scott is slow to get to his corner but he manages to tag in his big brother! Rick comes in as Stan Lane is tagged in as well -- Steiner-Line to Stan Lane! Steiner-Line to Bobby Eaton! Rick begins barking, jogging around the ring. He drops on all fours and headbutts Lane and Eaton. Scott Steiner comes in and we have a four person brawl in the ring. Jim Cornette looks worried at ringside as Rick Steiner picks up Stan Lane, placing him on his shoulders. Scott Steiner begins heading to the top turnbuckle as Jim Cornette climbs on the apron. A sign goes up in the background that reads: 'Get the Racket!' The referee gets busy with Cornette and Eaton grabs the tennis racket. Eaton moves over and catches Rick Steiner in the back with the racket and then shoves Scott Steiner off the turnbuckles! Scott crashes into the guardrail! Eaton tosses the tennis racket out of the ring and Stan Lane catches Rick Steiner with a martial arts kick. Lane falls backward into his corner and Eaton tags himself in, climbing to the top turnbuckle -- Rocket Launcher! Eaton hooks the leg: One, Two, Three! We have new WCW United States Tag Team Champions!]

[Through the benefit of a security camera, we move into the locker room that the Four Horsemen entered earlier. They are all gathered around along with Tully Blanchard. They seem to be discussing strategy in regards to their War Games match tomorrow night.]

[Ric Flair:] "Gentlemen, we are 24 hours away from the most dangerous match in World Championship Wrestling history. Now here is how things should go...."

[Tully Blanchard:] "Ric, I know that you're the leader of the group of Four Horsemen. However, this is my time. This is my time to gain an advantage over Sting for MY match with him at SuperBrawl. So MY winning strategy for War Games is..."

[Ric Flair stands up and so does Tully Blanchard. The two men go nose-to-nose, looking for a fight. Arn Anderson steps between them, keeping them from going at it. Anderson looks between the two men, the Nature Boy and his former tag team championship partner.]

[Arn Anderson:] "If we keep at this, we're going to be finished before we start. Now, let's get down to brass tacks."

[Flair and Blanchard slowly sit back down. Anderson looks between them and we cut away as they continue their strategy session.]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a226/shawkes/WCW_91/LexLuger91.jpg

[From there, we move to a promo area where the WCW United States Champion Lex Luger is standing by. The Total Package has the Russian flag that Ivan and Nikita Koloff draped over him earlier this evening. He looks very angry and a little injured from the attack by The Russians.]

[Lex Luger:] "Nikita, guess what, I'm still standing! And, after the match at WrestleWar, I'll still be holding the WCW United States title. Not to mention that, like the Cold War, this will still be a loser."

[Luger holds up the Russian flag and then rips it apart with his bare hands. He begins posing, drawing cheers from the crowd in the background.]

[Lex Luger:] "If you think that was a beat-down that you gave me earlier tonight then you're going to find out what a true beat-down is at WrestleWar when we meet in a Russian Chain match. You are looking at the Total Package and come tomorrow night you're looking at a man who is American Made."

[Luger holds up the United States title belt and we fade away.]

[From there, we move to a pre-taped promo that features Wahoo McDaniel standing by with the WCW World Tag Team Champions The Renegade Warriors. McDaniel picks up the title belts and holds them up in front of Chris and Mark Youngblood.]

[Wahoo McDaniel:] "This is what's important right now, gentlemen. You are the WCW World Tag Team Champions and an inspiration to Native Americans all over the world. No one thought that you could defeat Doom and you won these belts. Tomorrow, the two of you will defeat the odds again and send Doom packing from WCW for a month. Tomorrow will begin your destiny as WCW World Tag Team Champions. Tomorrow, you will be the kings of tag team wrestling."

[Chris and Mark Youngblood stand up, taking the belts and they seem fired up. Tomorrow, more than the WCW World Tag Team titles are on the line. It should be, as JR puts it, a real slobberknocker.]

Stan Hansen vs. Big Josh

[A heavy hitting match is next as Stan 'The Lariat' Hansen takes on Big Josh. The match is a little more even than some people might have thought as both men were able to strike some hard and heavy hits. The match takes place both inside the ring and outside the ring. Outside the ring, Hansen and Josh exchange punches and Hansen tries to ram Josh into the ring post but Josh blocks the hit. Instead, he sends Hansen into the ring post. Josh pushes Hansen back into the ring and follows him inside. He body slams Hansen to the mat and calls for the Northern Exposure. He bounces off the ropes and leaps -- Hansen rolls out of the way! Josh hits the mat hard. Hansen pulls himself up and brings Josh down with a belly-to-back suplex. He moves into a corner and waits for Josh to get to his feet -- Lariat! The Lariat brings Josh down to the mat and Hansen makes the cover: One, Two, Three!]

[Stan Hansen picks up a huge victory here tonight over Big Josh. However, he doesn't seem to be finished. Hansen lifts Josh and sets him up in a Piledriver position. He looks around and then drops Josh with the Piledriver. Josh's head collides with the mat and Hansen rolls Josh over onto his back. Stan Hansen walks over into his corner and pulls out the bullrope, beginning to swing it around his head. He looks down at Big Josh, waiting for Josh to find his way to his feet. [it's Dick Murdoch and Dick Slater! The tag team known as the Hardline Collection Agency enter the ring and stand between Stan Hansen and Big Josh. Hansen throws up the hook 'em horns sign. Murdoch and Slater step to the side and Hansen strikes Josh with the bullrope. The crowd boos loudly as Dick Murdoch picks up Josh and strikes him with the brainbuster. Dick Murdoch, Dick Slater and Stan Hansen stand together in the middle of the ring. We have a brand new trio here in World Championship Wrestling.]

[From the ring, we move to the top of the stage and interview area where Gordon Solie is standing by. He thanks everyone for coming here tonight and then introduces his guest at this time. That guest is none other than 'Flyin'' Brian Pillman. Pillman shakes hands with the fans in the first row before walking over and meeting with Gordon Solie. Pillman shakes hands with Gordon Solie.]

[Gordon Solie:] "Mr. Pillman, it's great to have you here with us this evening. Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting night as you team up with Sting, The Steiner Brothers and Tito Santana to take on the Four Horsemen and Tully Blanchard. Your thoughts this evening only 24 hours until War Games?"

[brian Pillman:] "Thank you, Mr. Solie, for this time tonight. I know that everyone sees me as a weak link in the War Games environment. I am the smallest man in the match. But people said the same thing when I played for the Bengals in football. People said the same thing when I first got into professional wrestling. Sometimes it's not the size of the wrestler in the fight but the size of the fight in the wrestler. That is what we're going to get tomorrow night. You're going to see me at my best."

[Gordon Solie:] "I am sure we will, Mr. Pillman. It is going to be a pier six brawl, I am sure."

[brian Pillman:] "A brawl that the Dudes With Attitudes will come out victorious in."

[Pillman goes back over and shakes hands with the fans, really showing his appreciation for his fans. Solie tells everyone that we are heading to a video showing the return of a group of wrestlers here in World Championship Wrestling.]

['Badstreet USA' begins to play in the background and we are taken to a video promoting the WCW return of The Fabulous Freebirds. This unit will consist of Michael 'P.S.' Hayes, Jimmy 'Jam' Garvin and Terry 'Bam Bam' Gordy. Interspersed with what appears to be a music video of Michael Hayes singing the Badstreet USA song are images and videos of the Fabulous Freebirds wrestling. All three of the wrestlers are shown being victorious at different times in their careers. Hayes is shown landing a DDT on a wrestler. Gordy is shown hitting the Asiatic Spike on another wrestler. Garvin is shown landing a Piledriver on a third wrestler. The video continues with all three members of the Fabulous Freebirds standing tall together in the ring. The Fabulous Freebirds are returning to World Championship Wrestling in two weeks!]

WCW World Heavyweight Title Match

Sting defends vs. Tommy Rich

[it is time for the main event of the evening and a WCW World Heavyweight title defense. Unlike how things regularly go, the WCW World Heavyweight Champion Sting comes out to the ring first. He steps into the ring and offers the belt to referee Tommy Young. Sting moves into his corner and waits for the arrival of his opponent this evening. That opponent is 'Wildfire' Tommy Rich. Rich comes out, staggering toward the ring and holding his back. He was given a Spinebuster earlier in the night on the concrete floor by Arn Anderson. Rich enters the ring and Sting approaches him. Sting tells him that they can call off the match tonight but Rich refuses. Wildfire says he's waited a long time for this and he cannot simply call off the match. He offers a hand to Sting and the two men shake hands.]

[Tommy Rich goes right toward Sting, wanting to begin this match and end it quickly and win the WCW World Heavyweight title. Rich throws in some early forearm shots and gets Sting backed into a corner. He gives a clean break and the two men start in the center of the ring again. Rich catches Sting in a side headlock in the center of the ring and brings him over to the mat. Rich scores a one count with the side headlock pin but Sting is quick to get the shoulder up. Sting fights his way to his feet and sends Rich to the ropes, bringing him down with a shoulderblock. Sting bounces off the ropes and leaps over a log rolling Rich. Rich gets to his feet and is sent down with a clothesline. Rich rolls out of the ring, grabbing his back as Sting releases a howl inside the ring. Rich paces a moment outside the ring, stretching out his back.]

[The battle continues to rage on with both men securing the advantage at times throughout the contest. Sting and Rich try to show some sportsmanship throughout the match but as the match continues, both men start to get a little more brutal, including some closed fist punches to one another. Sting starts to focus on the back of Rich, using a backbreaker and several vertical suplexes to keep Rich onto the mat. Sting heads to the top turnbuckle and leaps with a flying splash but Rich gets a foot up and Sting crashes into the boot of 'Wildfire.' Rich grabs the ropes, pulling himself up and throwing punches, exchanging rights and lefts with Sting. Rich grabs Sting and uses an exploder suplex, bringing the WCW World Heavyweight Champion to the mat. Rich pulls Sting up and lifts him onto the top turnbuckle. Rich grabs his back, staggering a moment. Then the man known as Wildfire climbs the turnbuckles with Sting. He hooks a front face lock and lifts Sting's arm over his back -- Superplex! The Superplex has Sting landing in the center of the ring. Tommy Rich pops up, grabbing his back and falling back on the mat. He slowly crawls over and lays a hand across Sting's chest:]

[...1...

...2...

...SHOULDER UP!]

[The crowd goes wild, seeing Sting get his shoulder off the mat before the three count. We nearly had a new WCW World Heavyweight Champion! Tommy Rich looks like he cannot believe that Sting was able to get a shoulder up. Rich looks around and the crowd is definitely split between the two wrestlers. Rich crawls over to the ropes and begins to pull himself up. The referee steps in and begins to make a count. Sting begins pulling himself up just as Tommy Rich reaches his feet. Rich moves over to Sting and kicks him in the gut. He pulls him in between his legs, calling for a Piledriver! He starts to pull Sting up but then grabs his back. He cannot lift Sting! Sting throws a couple of punches to the solar plexus of Rich. Sting begins reaching his full height. He throws another punch and another! He backs Rich into a corner and then whips him across. Sting looks across the ring and then runs -- Stinger Splash! The Stinger Splash connects on Rich! Sting grabs Rich and pulls him up into a Tombstone Piledriver position. Rich struggles in the hold and uses every bit of energy to reverse the hold! Rich holds Sting up in position for the Tombstone Piledriver but his back gives out and both men collapse to the mat. Sting is the first person to reach his feet and he grabs the legs of Rich -- Scorpion Deathlock! The Scorpion is locked in on Wildfire. Rich struggles in the hold but the pain is obvious. It is etched on every part of his face. He does not want to give up. But he does not have a choice. Before he passes out, he answers the referee's question with a 'Yes.']

[As soon as the bell sounds, Sting releases the hold and gets his arm raised. Tommy Rich is literally passed out on the mat. As the worn-out Sting is calling for EMT help, he gets other people instead. Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Barry Windham, Greg Valentine and Tully Blanchard all walk out to the ring and surround the ring. As soon as they enter the ring and go after Sting, the locker room explodes! The Steiner Brothers, Brian Pillman and Tito Santana come running down and enter the ring. We have a wild brawl between the two War Games teams! Jim Ross is going wild on commentary, calling this battle a slobberknocker and telling everyone that they cannot miss WrestleWar tomorrow night! Neither team maintains an advantage as Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler say that we are out of time! We'll see you tomorrow for The Main Event and WrestleWar!]

[instead of the show ending, we are taken to another video. This one begins much like the video that ended the show last week. We are shown the long stretch of highway. The sun is setting slowly in the background, showing the blues and pinks and reds of the sky. As the empty highway is shown, the sound of motorcycles fills the background noise. Three men are shown riding those motorcycles. Two of them are definitely musclebound. The third is smaller but wearing a business suit. The third man is actually in the middle between the two. As the three men drive forward unseen by the camera, the opening strings of 'Iron Man' by Black Sabbath play within the background. The loud roars of the motorcycles almost overshadows the song's opening as the three men look straight ahead. As the video comes to a close, we are shown several words on the screen...

Comments On Last Show: Good stuff, Sting taking both belts is an odd yet nice touch. Can't wait for WrestleWar!

Thanks for the comments, Beejus. I am glad you enjoyed the last show. Sting just doesn't seem like someone to me who would bow down to Nick Bockwinkel. Hope that even after a month off that people are still ready for WrestleWar.

Comments On Last Show: Really like the program you got Rude and Atlas in. Also got an ideal on who the 3 mystery guys on the motorcycles are,but I could be wrong, you could throw another curve again (that's what I like about this dynasty, you keep it real life with some surprises) Also can't wait to see who Sting picks for the final member at wargames.

Thanks for the comments, horseman. (I am a Horseman 4 lyfe as well.) Does the next video give you more of a comment on who the three men on the motorcycles are? Rude and Atlas, of course, continued their program on the last show. Hope you are still enjoying that between these two muscle-bound men. I do try to keep the dynasty close to real life but with some surprises thrown in, thus things like Hansen, Dick Murdoch and Dick Slater.

Extra Point: Who will be Sting's mystery opponent tonight: Arn Anderson

I think Arn would make sense after getting pin over Sting in last show.

Arn Anderson would have definitely made a great opponent for Sting in the last show. However, I hope that you enjoyed who I selected for the mystery opponent for Sting. :)
