Living the DREAM

Recommended Posts

I took a sip from my beverage and peeked once more at the two cards I had face down on the table. One was the queen of heart, the other was a ten of the same suit. The dealer flipped three cards over on the table. Any Texas Hold ‘em player may have folded when they saw the three of clubs and the eight of diamonds, but it was the third card that kept me in the game. The Jack of hearts. I had a gut feeling that having three out of the five in a royal flush was a good sign. Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve been in this situation before and failed miserably. But tonight, tonight I had a good feeling. I grabbed a couple chips from my stack and hurled them into the pot. I gave a nod to the dealer as he flipped the next card. It was the ace of hearts. Adrenaline pumped through me like blood in my veins. I couldn’t help but let my poker face fade. My leg shook as I decided what to do. I peeked at the two facedown cards once again, pinched myself to make sure it wasn’t a dream, and then made a decision. Some would question what I did, but like I said, I had a gut feeling. I put my hands behind the stacks of chips I had and pushed them to the middle. “All in,” I muttered with a faux confidence. I inhaled as the dealer reached to the last card. I almost had a heart attack as I saw the color red. There it was, the king of hearts. I had hit the royal flush! The dealer looked shocked as I turned my cards over, showing what I had warned. My entire fate had rested in one card, a one out of forty-five chance that I got that card, but it happened. And now I was a millionaire. Well sort of. I had won a little over a couple million dollars from the hand of poker, and I walked away from the table. At the end of the day I had more than a million dollars to my name. Living in the City of Sin had finally paid off, and now I had to decide what to do with my money.

Now any normal person, after winning such a huge amount of money, would buy a fancy car or a new house, but I had a different plan. See my 2003 Honda Civic still did what I needed it to do, despite the musk of booze and smoke that had sunk into the car seats over the years. I instead got to talking to some other guys I knew in the accounting field because I had an investment in mind. I had a dream and I planned on living it out. See, I had always been a wrestling fan, even tried to work my way into the business, but a broken leg and destroyed knee from falling off a ladder on concrete had shut it down. I thought I had what it took to be the next big star, but turns out no one really wants a five foot six guy with a broken leg to wrestle for them. So instead I began working for a radio station and playing poker on the weekends. I watched as wrestling changed its image and some independent promotions, like Ring Of Honor and PWG, started to make names for themselves. Independent wrestling was at an all-time high and I was ready to get back into the business. I knew I couldn’t ever wrestle, but after my lucky night, I could buy my way in. So after getting all of the books together, DREAM Pro Wrestling was born. I had no connections to any television business or anything really wrestling money, but I had a radio show, and a stack of cash, so I had means to make it happen. Emails were sent out to workers, many of them ignored my offers or said they weren’t going to work such a small show. I don’t blame them, all these shady promoters around just trying to steal money, but I did get quite a few good names, the others, I could get on a loan. I established a relationship with some of the company owners, my biggest surprise was a reply from Dixie Carter agreeing to allow me to use some of her TNA workers, of course I’d have to send someone over or go into my pockets a bit, but these were guys on National television. All the pieces were falling into place, but now to build a crowd and let the DREAM begin.

*notes* Alright so this is my first attempt at a diary, hopefully its something people enjoy. I've written quite a bit of it so far and I am having fun. I will also use my terrible photoshop skills to make my own posters. I am playing as a company I made called DREAM Pro Wrestling, based in the South West of the US. I have 0 popularity anywhere but I am starting with 1 million dollars. I added some locations to the Las Vegas area because the smaller companies here dont really use the bigger casinos so I added the ones I've seen shows at. I hope you all enjoy!

After a couple of weeks I had managed to get enough people together for a first show. I was excited to put on a show, and with the radio station allowing me to promote my company, I was hoping I could get enough word out to have a few people show up. I pulled some strings and promised a couple guys some decent money to get them to agree to show up. But I was confident. Every company has to start somewhere and mine was going to start at DREAM I. I planned to run monthly shows for a while until I could get popular and make some money. I was hoping everything would work out, and then a text had caused me a bit of concern. I had heard rumors on the dirt sheets, but was hoping it wasn't as bad as they made it seem. I had almost managed to sweeten the deal enough for Dixie to allow the iconic Devon Dudley to come to our first show, but as I looked at my phone and got confirmation of the torn quad, and that he'd be out for three months, a part of me sunk. I simply responded with an okay and a hope ya get better soon. Meanwhile I had to change the poster I had put together and stop promoting his appearance. The fans seemed to be upset at the news, but I had promised them a surprise that would hopefully take his place. I took to twitter to begin our promoting, those who didnt listen to my radio show had to know about it.

I hoped with the bit of promotion we'd be able to get the show with enough of a following to build a fan base. Now all I had to do was release my poster and give a bit more information on the matches for the night and we'd be golden.

  • 3 weeks later...

I arrived very early to the Veil Pavilion on the faithful day of August sixteenth. There was no one else there, no ring crew, no workers, but I sat in the empty show room. I checked my phone about three hundred times to see if there was any news I should worry about. I hoped that I wouldn’t run into a problem like I had with Devon. Slowly throughout the day, the crew started to show up. The ring and seats were set up rather quickly and now we just waited. The workers poured in throughout the day, and then I had a meeting. I just got the guys together, some of these guys were guys I watched growing up, like Rikishi and Raven. Other guys were ones that I really enjoyed their work on the independent scene. It was going to be a good night, I had that gut feeling once again.

As the fans came in, I got my bearings with my fellow commentator. I had been in the radio business for a little while so I knew how to speak into a microphone. The guy sitting next to me for the night was Josh Mathews, former WWE commentator. In all honesty he was a pricey guy to get to work for me, but in the production of event DVDs and my goals in the future, he could be a recognizable voice to help us out. We talked about the layout of the show, and he seemed just as excited as I was to watch this show. The show room was nowhere near sold out, but considering this was our first show of a brand new pro wrestling company, I was pretty satisfied with the crowd. Prior to the show, I went into the ring to thank all the fans and tell them what to look forward to. And now the DREAM begins.

DREAM I – The Dream Begins

As the show begins, Chris Sabin makes his way to the ring. The former TNA Heavyweight Champion made sure the fans in attendance didn’t start to like him. He mocked them as he approached the ring and ignored their outstretched hands. The cheer he had initially turned to boos as he grabbed a “Johnny Wrestling” sign and ripped it to shreds. Sabin grabbed the microphone and told the crowd to shut up.

Chris Sabin – “The only reason I’m here tonight is to add a bit of padding to my wallet. And after I win the Dream Heavyweight Championship against Johnny Garga-no-skill, this no name company will have to pay me even more than they already do. So I’m aiming at you Johnny. Tonight you’ll see how the big boys play.”

Chris Sabin tossed the microphone to the side and made his way out of the ring. He did well coming across as a bad guy and the fans definitely didn’t like him. I hoped that the in ring work could keep them going.

Rikishi vs Hiroshi Yamato

Wrestle-1’s Hiroshi Yamato was not super well known, and compared to his opponent, this crowd had never heard of him. Rikishi got the crowd on their feet, many of them bobbed their heads along to his familiar theme song and danced in the ring. At nearly fifty years old, he wasn’t in the same ring shape as his glory days, but putting him in the ring with someone like Yamato allowed both of them to shine in their own way. The finish of the match came when Yamato avoided Rikishi’s famous finisher and sent him to the canvas with a beautiful dropkick. He then went to the top rope and dove off with a senton that was enough to collect the victory.

Winner – Hiroshi Yamato

The crowd didn’t necessarily have a super positive reaction to him winning, but they did seem to enjoy the senton. Next up was one of the matches I was looking forward to.

World’s Cutest Tag Team vs Ink Inc

The fans all jumped to their feet when it was announced that World’s Cutest Tag Team was coming out. Joey Ryan put on his usual disgusting tradition of popping his Blow Pop into a fan’s mouth. Candice LeRae was loved as always as well as Joey Ryan. When the music changed and the team of Ink Inc came out, the fans turned from in love to a bit in fear. The very strange looking team of Shannon Moore and Jesse Neal growled at the crowd. Two completely different teams were getting ready to put on a very good match. Joey Ryan and Shannon Moore started things out for the teams. Ink Inc took the advantage early, but Joey Ryan was able to get a hot tag to Candice LeRae. Candice regained the advantage for her team and a timely superkick to Jesse Neal’s jaw from Joey Ryan sent him stumbling into the open arms of the infamous “balls-plex”. Candice hit the suplex and picked up the win.

Winner – World’s Cutest Tag Team

After the first match didn’t get a large reaction, Joey and Candice really turned things around. Up next was another big name in Paul Burchill, although he is minus his ridiculous pirate gimmick, he was a noticeable name and he was a monster.

Adam Page vs Paul Burchill

Adam Page walked around the ring and shook hands with all of the front row fans. He made sure to get on their good side, but his opponent couldn’t care less. Paul Burchill stormed to the ring when Page was halfway through shaking hands. Burchill slammed Page into the security barricade and the steel stairs. The match had not begun so he could not get disqualified. He grabbed a steel chair from under the ring and brutalized Adam Page. Security officials pulled Paul off of him and separated the two. The referee checked on Page to see if he was in any form to fight. In the ref’s opinion he couldn’t fight, but Page had a fighting spirit and he wanted to fight Burchill. Page stood on weak knees and Burchill gave a devilish grin. When the bell rang Burchill nearly decapitated Adam Page with a lariat. The brutalization continued until he set up for the C4. Before Burchill could finish off the destroyed Page, Adam Page surprised him. A roll up pin out of nowhere caught Burchill off guard and the referee counted to three.

Winner – Adam Page

The crowd roared as the underdog picked up the flash win. Paul Burchill on the other hand was far from cheery. He lunged at Adam Page who quickly escaped the ring. Paul Burchill kicked the ropes and shouted that he would get his revenge.

The RockNES Monsters vs The Coalition

Another tag match was on deck. The RockNES Monsters were going to be taking on the “military” group of the borderline racist, patriot RJ Brewer and Brandon Gatson were the two representing the group tonight. Crimson, the third member of The Coalition, was not available tonight so the group would have to deal without him. The Coalition came to the ring shouting obscenities to the crowd about being a true American and being a patriot. The RockNES Monsters came to the ring and got the fans behind them immediately. Both members of The Coalition got their fair share of action in the match, but a timely tag from Johnny Yuma to his partner sparked a comeback for the RockNES Monsters. The Coalition seemed too busy with the crowd and getting their “true” American opinion across to focus on the match. Johnny Yuma rolled Gatson up for the pin to sneak away with a win.

Winner – The RockNES Monsters

RJ Brewer looked angry with his partner and the two walked to the back. The fans were mocking the two “true” Americans adding fuel to the fire.

Cerdic Alexander vs Oliver Grey

Two of our company’s best going at it was sure to get a reaction from the fans. Grey had come to the ring with a leather jacket and some sunglasses, acting like he was some sort of star; Cedric however got the fans behind him early by slapping the outstretched hands and smiling at them. Grey got the offense early hitting a huge discus lariat; though, a couple well placed kicks put Cedric right back into the match. Cedric Alexander went for a split-legged moonsault, only to land on Oliver’s knees. The two went back and forth; Grey even hit his signature Brainbuster, but it wasn’t enough to put Cedric away. The end of the match came when Cedric snapped a round house kick that went shin-to-chin on Grey and had him out on his feet. Alexander then lifted Grey up and planted him with a brainbuster of his own for the three count.

Winner – Cedric Alexander

Cedric rolled out of the ring and looked around as the crowd cheered him. He smiled as a “Cedric” chant broke out. He clapped hands as he walked to the back.

Four Way Elimination

Michael Modest vs Bobby Fish vs Cliff Compton vs Sonjay Dutt

Up next was a fatal fourway match between some of our top competitors. Michael Modest was a bigger name in the South West so throwing him in with the three more well-known guys. The match was a no disqualification match, and Cliff Compton was the last one to make it to the ring. He puffed a cigar and carried a beer in his free hand. As he got to the ring he took a swig from the beer before putting the cigar out in the liquid. He carried the beer bottle into the ring, and as the bell rang, he slammed the bottle over Michael Modest’s skull. The bald head of Modest had a trail of blood begin to trickle down it. He was out on his feet and Compton scooped him up. Cliff hit a Fisherman Buster and quickly eliminated Michael Modest. There were three left in the match and glass spread across the floor. Seeing him as the bigger threat, Sonjay and Bobby began to team up against Compton. He put up a fight, but eventually the numbers game caught up to him. Bobby Fish hit him in the jaw with a bone shattering high knee that Sonjay followed up with a cutter. Sonjay Dutt made the cover and Cliff Compton was eliminated. After Cliff Compton was eliminated, two men stormed the ring. The two men had been seen earlier in the night, Gatson and Brewer, The Coalition, slid into the ring and targeted Sonjay. Bobby Fish backed away as the two Coalition members destroyed Sonjay. The crowd began to boo loudly, but the two men had already done their deed. Gatson and Brewer hit a double superkick on Dutt that left him flat on his back. The two guys left the ring as the fans let them know they were not very well liked. Bobby Fish took advantage of the attack and pinned the knocked out Sonjay Dutt.

Winner – Bobby Fish

The fans didn’t take kindly to Fish taking the win after the attack, but Bobby was an opportunist and took the win.

Christina Von Eerie vs Jessicka Havok

Two females with hardcore personalities made their way to the ring. Havok wore her mask to the ring and towered over Von Eerie. Christina went on the offensive early, but she was sent crashing to the mat with a huge boot from Havok. From that moment on the match was in Havok’s hands as she dominated the smaller female. Christina gave her best to fight back, but a chokeslam Havok ended the match for good.

Winner – Jessicka Havok

After the match, Havok showed she was the more dominant female by stomping away at the already beaten Von Eerie. Havok then attempts to add insult to injury by lifting Von Eerie up for another chokeslam. That’s when Candice LeRae and Veda Scott ran down the ramp to the ring. Having the numbers against her, Havok releases the hold she had around Von Eerie’s throat. She rolled out of the ring as LeRae and Scott slid in. The two helped Von Eerie to her feet, but she looked less than grateful of the two saving her.

After the females left the ring, one of the more popular names we had in the company made his way to the ring. When his music hit the crowd went crazy. The iconic Raven made his way to the ring and the fans let him know he was welcome. Raven grabbed a microphone and told everyone that he is here to prove that he is still the most iconic hardcore wrestler in the world. He issues an open challenge to any wrestler in the world to a “Raven’s Rules” match. A match where there were absolutely no rules and could only be won by pinfall. He then lurked back into the corner and sat down, leaning against the turnbuckle, waiting to see who would answer the challenge. Suddenly Axl Rotten appears out from the back with a trashcan full of weapons. The crowd got on their feet not only for another hardcore icon but for the opportunities of the crazy things that could go down.

Raven’s Rules

Raven vs Axl Rotten

Axl Rotten hits the ring and tosses the weapons from the trashcan in at Raven. Raven sat calmly in the corner as kendo sticks, cookie sheets, pizza cutters, and other strange weapons were hurled at him. Raven got to his feet only when Axl slid in to the ring. Right away the two men went at it. The brawl began, punches were exchanged like stocks, as the men traded blows in the center of the ring. The weapons were scattered around them, but they were quickly brought in to the match. Following a hard hook, Raven picked up a cookie sheet from the canvas. An echoing crack filled the arena after Raven slammed it into Axl’s skull. Axl stumbled back but did not fall down. The two continued their brawl and use of weapons, Axl did not take long to shed blood after Raven smashed a cheese grater into his forehead. The fans were into the match and enjoyed it even more when Raven hit the Even-Flow DDT on to a steel chair which did enough damage to put Axl Rotten away.

Winner – Raven

Raven and Axl got a standing ovation from the crowd as they got to their feet. Axl Rotten extended a handshake to Raven, but Raven ignored it. He walked to the back, his loner status still very confirmed. Axl wiped the dripping blood from his head with his wrapped fist and gave a goodbye salute to the crowd.

DREAM Tag Team Championship

Triple Threat Elimination

Jig-N-Tony vs Juicy Product vs The Von Erichs

The three teams make their way to the ring, Juicy Product was the only certain bad guys in the match. Jig-N-Tony was by far the favorite as Jigsaw was well liked by the crowd. Ross Von Erich and JT Dunn both started in the ring, but Tony Nese quickly slapped Ross’ back and entered the ring. Nese and Dunn went at it, but Marshall Von Erich untimely tagged himself in as Dunn was setting up for a roaring elbow. Marshall entered the ring and Dunn smashed his elbow into Marshall’s jaw. Tony Nese rolled up the member of one of the most famous wrestling families in history to eliminate the Von Erichs. It was now down to the teams of Jig-N-Tony and Juicy Product. David Starr and Tony Nese were in the ring, but David Starr definitely had the upper hand in a fight. Jigsaw made a tag just before Starr could put Nese away. Jigsaw took the momentum and put it in his corner. Jigsaw took Starr down with a huge hurricanrana and then took Dunn off the apron. A superkick smacked Starr in the jaw and then Jigsaw went for the end. He climbed to the top rope before attempting a 450 splash. David Starr lifted his knees causing Jigsaw to crash into them. Jigsaw held his ribs as Starr lifted him off the canvas and hit a rolling elbow of his own. Jigsaw fell to the mat and David Starr made the pin to crown the first DREAM Tag Team Champions.

Winner and NEW DREAM Tag Team Champions – Juicy Product

Juicy Product celebrated in the ring, snatching up the DREAM tag titles and quickly strapping them on. They taunted the crowd and the downed Jig-N-Tony before they left the ring and headed to the back.

Johnny Gargano came to the ring and gave a speech about how Chris Sabin has made it further in his career than he has but it doesn’t make him any better. Gargano says that after he wins tonight it will show everyone that you don’t have to be on tv or in the big time to be a champion. The crowd cheers for him and starts a “Johnny Wrestling” chant before Chris Sabin comes out and interrupts it.

DREAM Heavyweight Championship

Johnny Gargano vs Chris Sabin

The fans were already behind Gargano and Sabin had made his opinion of the fans and this company known earlier in the night. The “Johnny Wrestling” chant continued into the match as Gargano and Sabin circled the ring. Sabin is first to strike with a jab that started the brawl. The two trade blows until Sabin lunges forward and takes Gargano down with a clothesline. Gargano bounces back up off the canvas only for Sabin’s boot to crack into his jaw with an enziguiri. Gargano stumbles into the corner and Sabin strikes again. Chris Sabin darted across the ring before returning to the corner with a big boot to Gargano’s jaw. He was still not quite done; though, he put Gargano into the tree of woe, upside down in the corner. The crowd booed as he slowly walked to the center of the ring. Gargano took the time to his advantage as Sabin was in no rush. Gargano freed himself from the corner and went on the attack. He hit Sabin in the back of the skull with a discus lariat before picking him up on his shoulders and hurling him into the corner with a lawn dart. Sabin went face first into the turnbuckle, and the crowd cheered for their favorite. Gargano continued to press the issue and thwarted an attempted Sabin comeback, even escaping the Cradle Shock, before he hit the Hurts Donut to pick up the win and become the first DREAM Heavyweight Champion.

Winner and NEW DREAM Heavyweight Champion – Johnny Gargano

Gargano is handed the championship belt and raises it in the air. Streamers fly toward the ring as “Johnny Wrestling” basks in the glory of becoming champion. He signals for a microphone and the crowd cheers for his victory speech. He wipes the beads of sweat from his forehead and grabs the microphone. Before he could even begin his speech, someone hops the security barricade from the crowd. He slides into the ring and knocks Gargano to the canvas with a destructive superkick. Johnny Gargano lay on the canvas trying to put the pieces of his jaw back together as the man stood above him. As security stormed the ring, the man shed a hoodie, hat, and sunglasses to reveal that he was none other than Robbie E. Security pulls Robbie E away, but the damage is done. They pull Robbie E away from the new champion, and then help Gargano up to his feet. “Johnny Wrestling” picks the title up off the ground and holds it in the air while another hand holds his jaw. The fans cheer the champion as the show comes to a close.

<p>Well in the eyes of most, our event would have been a bust, but for a first show in a brand new company, I think we had some success. I had calls in on the radio show the next day asking questions about our future and our event. I used this to make an announcement that we would be having another show in one month's time. Those that had either seen our show or heard about it knew what main event was set up. It appeared after the attack it was going to be Robbie E versus our DREAM Champion, Johnny Gargano. As the week went by and I was watching my tv, I noticed something. Not only did TNA announce a pay-per-view for the month of September, but it was the same night that I had announced DREAM II. So there it was, I was faced with a similar situation as the month before, the big name star that I thought I had secured to draw names was once again gone.
