2029 season

Hannan (Head coach, Brown University, 11th year) – The Bears begin the season by losing their first seven games, including a 75-63 loss to Tharby's Rhode Island club. Brown is now 6-17 all-time against RI.

Brown is 3-14 after dropping the first two games of the Ivy League slate, but then they win 12 straight conference games to finish 12-2 (Penn finished second at 9-5), winning the first ever championship in the school's history. A few years ago, before the IL added the league tourney, that would have gave them an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

They are the top seed in the IL Tournament, but get upset in the opening round by (8) Canisius 96-70, despite 21 points from senior Kerry Patterson.

However the Bears get an invite to the NIT Tournament and receive the No. 8 seed in the West Region – Brown's first ever post season appearance. They fall to top-seed West Virginia 87-60 to finish the season 15-16.

Hannan is named Ivy League Coach of the Year – the second time in his career - the other being in 2025.

Patterson (16.0 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.0 apg) and junior John Doran (15.8 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.9 apg) are fourth and sixth respectively in the IL in scoring and are named to the IL Second Team. Newcomer Justin Feaster (7.0 ppg, 2.2 rpg) is selected IL Freshman of the Year.

Not a bad season for Hannan and Brown.

Lovat (Head Coach, Delaware State, 4th year) – DSU ends the season 15-15 overall and 9-7 (tied for second) in the MEAC. They did give league regular season champ Hampton their only league loss.

In the conference tournament they are the fourth seed and lose to (5) South Carolina State 78-65.

Arthur Gilson (6.0 ppg, 2.5 rpg) and Parker Granger (6.0 ppg, 2.3 rpg) make the All-Freshman Team, so things may be looking up for DSU and Lovat.

Tharby (Head Coach, Rhode Island, 5th year, 16th overall) – The Rams get off to a 7-2 start, including putting five players in double figures in the win over Brown. Tharby is now 4-0 against Hannan.

RI ends 8-8 in the league and gets the No. 8 seed in the A10 Tournament. Junior Toby Tillis scores 24 and Ahmad Fowler adds 13 points and 15 rebounds in the Rams opening round, 75-72 victory over Umass. In the second round they run into the third ranked team in the country and top-seed LaSalle, but they had given them one of their three losses on the year. No magic this time however, they commit 17 turnovers and shoot just 33% and fall 72-52 to finish the season 17-14.

Tillis (17.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.5 apg) finishes second in the A10 in scoring and is named to the Second Team.

National Final – #9 Duke (22-7) defeats #8 Michigan State (29-9) 80-76 in the championship contest.

Notable Games:

January 31 – St. Joseph's Daniel Verduzro ties a NCAA record by grabbing 27 rebounds, 13 offensive, in a 73-63 Atlantic 10 win over Xavier.

Independent East Texas State goes 0-29 on the year with NCAA worst -17.2 scoring margin.

Tharby (Head Coach, Southern Methodist, 7th year, 23rd overall) – It looked as if Tharby and SMU, with all five starters returning, had turned things around to begin the season as they went 7-3 to begin the year and were 10-4 entering conference play.

However they struggle from there and end 16-15 overall, 6-10 in C-USA. The only thing that could help keep Tharby's job now is to win the loop tourney, but that dream ends quickly as the ninth-seeded Mustangs fall to (8) Central Florida 69-57 in the opening round. Well I though this dynasty would end a little better than it did. I thought at least one of these guys would eventually land a job at a top school and stay a while, but that didn't happen. Then they all went and retired in quick order.

I'm planning on starting another dynasty in the near future, but if there is any info that anyone would like to know or are curious about regarding this one please let me know and I'll post that info.

Thanks for reading!!!
