Originally created to target the Hispanic demographic, Bellator has grown into the #2 promotion in the U.S. and arguably the world. Bellator has recently undergone big changes with founder Bjorn Rebney being ousted in favor of Scott Coker.

Bellator MMA Close Women’s Division

<a href="http://s105.photobucket.com/user/chrisgriffin89/media/image2_zps8c204679.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m227/chrisgriffin89/image2_zps8c204679.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo image2_zps8c204679.jpg"/></a>

Only five months after opening it, Bellator MMA has announced that it will be closing its Women’s Featherweight division. “We were unable to secure enough fighters to make a legitimate division.” said Bellator MMA CEO Scott Coker. “In the future, if the opportunity to create a women’s division arises, we will jump at the chance.” he added.

It has been rumoured that it was Bellator’s inability to sign either Cristiane Justino or Gina Carano which saw the company change its minds on the division, with either fighter capable of being a major draw. Marloes Coenen and Julia Budd, who previously competed in the division, have already been signed by Invicta FC, with Budd expected to fight on Invicta’s next fight card.

The next event for Bellator MMA will see dangerous striker Melvin Manhoef face former Bellator Middleweight champion Alexander Shlemenko in California.

Bellator Announce Second Pay-Per-View Event

<a href="http://s105.photobucket.com/user/chrisgriffin89/media/tito-ortiz-bellator-120_zpse9914c18.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m227/chrisgriffin89/tito-ortiz-bellator-120_zpse9914c18.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo tito-ortiz-bellator-120_zpse9914c18.jpg"/></a>

Bellator is returning the pay-per-view with Bellator MMA 136 set to be headlined by a Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Title Fight between Emanuel Newton and Tito Ortiz on the 9th of May 2015. It was also announced that Cheick Kongo and Muhammed Lawal are also set to fight on the main card, with their opponents yet to be named.

Emanuel Newton who is fresh off a decision victory against Liam McGeary at Bellator MMA 134, accepted the fight with a short turn around after coming out unscathed. “Tito is one of the biggest names in MMA, I expect him to talk a lot leading up to the fight, my job is to win the fight.” said Newton.

After defeating Stephan Bonnar at Bellator 131, Tito Ortiz is set to try and win the Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Title, thirteen years after he last defended the UFC Light Heavyweight Title. “Emanuel Newton is the most established champion in Bellator, I plan on beating him and adding to my legacy in this sport.” said Tito. “I don’t see him being able to stop me from taking him down and punishing him.” he added.

The company’s next event, Bellator MMA 135 sees the Bellator Bantamweight Title on the line when Joe Warren meets Marcos Galvao on the 4th of April 2015.

James Irvin who is scheduled to fight Doug Marshall in his retirement fight at Bellator MMA 135 has failed to make weight, weighing in six pounds over the weight limit.

“Missing weight by such a large amount is extremely unprofessional.” said Bellator CEO Scott Coker. “The fight will go ahead as scheduled with James Irvin giving twenty percent of his winnings to Doug Marshall.” he added.

Brock Lesnar Signs With Bellator MMA

<a href="http://s1147.photobucket.com/user/plunkett5/media/UFC%2020/brocklesnar.jpeg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1147.photobucket.com/albums/o552/plunkett5/UFC%2020/brocklesnar.jpeg" border="0" alt=" photo brocklesnar.jpeg"/></a>

After being choosing not to re-sign with the WWE after his contact ran out on the 29th of March, Brock Lesnar has signed with Bellator MMA in a move which clearly establishes the company as a competitor to the UFC.

“I have had no signs of diverticulitis during my time with the WWE, I am back to prove that not only am I the biggest draw in the history of MMA, but also still a very dangerous individual.” said Lesnar. “My aim is to claim the Bellator MMA Heavyweight Title and destroy anyone who tries to take it from me.” he added.

“Signing Brock is incredible for the organisation, we are thrilled he has chosen to fight under the Bellator MMA banner.” said Bellator MMA CEO Scott Coker. “This will see us run roughly four pay-per-view events a year, with stars such as Brock Lesnar and Tito Ortiz headlining those events.” he added.

Newton Injured, Lawal Set To Face Tito Ortiz At Bellator 136

<a href="http://s105.photobucket.com/user/chrisgriffin89/media/LawalMillsSherdog_zpsd80254b5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m227/chrisgriffin89/LawalMillsSherdog_zpsd80254b5.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo LawalMillsSherdog_zpsd80254b5.jpg"/></a>

Bellator MMA Light Heavyweight Champion Emanuel Newton has injured his knee during his training camp in preparation for defending his title against Tito Ortiz at Bellator 136. Muhammed Lawal who scheduled to fight Tom DeBlass on the main card has been promoted to the main event with DeBlass removed from the card.

“Tito is a ghost from the past, haunting Bellator, I plan on doing some ghostbusting” said Lawal. “Once I get past Tito I plan on taking his title shot and getting revenge on Emanuel Newton.” he added.

“I have overcome biggest obstacles than a guy who walks around wearing a crown in my career.” said Ortiz. “Once I demolish him, I will continue on and make that title around Emanuel Newton’s waist mine.” he added.

The Bantamweight bout between LC Davis and Rafael Silva has been promoted from the preliminary card to the main card.
