The new power structure in PSW: Phil Vilbert, Chris Caulfield, Mitch Naess & Alex Braun

DAVE's demise in April 2007 hit many people hard, but it was far from unexpected - losing their pay-per-view deal the previous year had been a big blow, and the loss of their remaining TV deals in January 2007 seemed to be the final nail in the coffin. Mitch Naess, Phil Vibert's protege and the long time voice of DAVE, therefore had a lot of time to plan ahead in case of a worst case scenario, and that is how Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling came to be.

The concept was simple; to start again and to repeat the formula that had worked first time around, but to avoid the traps that DAVE fell into. Naess soon had a number of DAVE alumni on his staff and roster, and so began the mission to try and succeed where DAVE failed....and to complete the revolution.

In 2009, Phil Vilbert returned to the business as the booker of Canadian Golden Combat after George DeColt retired and his son Alex took control of the company. Vilbert and the DeColts quickly gained momentum as an alternative to North of the Border Wrestling in Canada. He proved once again that he still is one of the top creative minds in the business.

Chris Caulfield joined Sam Strong's United States Pro Wrestling in August 2007 and quickly showed once again that he is one of the most underrated wrestlers in the world. He had legendary feuds with the likes of Bruce The Giant and Peter Valentine and held the USPW Television Title on two occasions. Rumors of Sam Strong's retirement were confirmed at the end of 2012, so Caulfield decided that it was time to move on and help his best friend, Phil Vilbert rebuild his dream on the east coast, Caulfield would lose a Loser Leaves Town match to Bruce The Giant at Thanksgiving Thunder, which allowed him to be written out of the company as Strong granted his wish to be released from his contract.

Mitch Naess and Alex Braun met with Vilbert and Caulfield and the four men quickly ironed out the details on the sale of Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling to Vilbert, with both Naess and Braun staying on as the lead announcer and road agent respectively.

And so begins the second chance of Phil Vilbert.......

Mitch Naess is standing in the ring as the sold out crowd in Pennsylvania PArk chant “P-S-Dub….P-S-Dub”. The camera pans around the rowdy crowd, showing a lot of DAVE T-Shirts and signs mixed in with the PSW merchandise. Naess smiles at the camera and begins to talk:

Naess – “Good evening wresting fans…..I am Mitch Naess and this is Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling’s FIRST televised show….welcome to Underground TV!”

Fans cheer louder

Naess – “We have a great show lined up tonight…but first I want to introduce my broadcast partner and new edition to the PSW family….welcome Samuel Curran…..”

Curran stands at the broadcast table and waves to a mixed reaction as the fans some fans chant “WHO IS HE!” and others cheer.

Naess – “Now I can see we have a lot of DAVE fans in the house…..”

Fans erupt in a “TOO EXTREME!” and “F*** the Eisens” chants.

Naess – “Ha…well…then you will love some of the surprises we have for you….now, let’s get to the action!”

Century and Sister Beth Mercy make their entrance to a fairly decent reaction for the former DAVE star in his return to the old DAVE Arena.
Century grabs the mic and thanks the fans for the warm welcome and talks briefly about his sting in DAVE and some of his battles with the original Acid. As he turns to hand Sister Beth Mercy his robe, Acid II attacks him from behind with a flurry of punches and kicks.
Acid II continues the attack, using some high flying moves off the ropes to keep Century dazed and off his feet. He then takes a minute to taunt some fans and Sister Beth Mercy.
Century quickly shows he has a huge experience advantage and uses it to turn the tide of the match in his favor, using that lapse in focus to land a series of technical moves to keep Acid II off his feet and eventually lands the Salvation for the win.
Winner - Travis Century in 5:47 by pinfall with a Salvation.

Naess – “The Fallen Angel gets the easy win over the youngster.”

Curran – “Acid II fought the good fight, but even at 50, Century still shows he has what it takes to win in the squared circle.”

As Century and Acid II leave the ring and make their way to the back, the lights go out and the big screen over the ring lights up with “THE CHAMP IS HERE” and

hits and from the back emerges the PSW Champion, wearing the belt around his waist. With him is Grandmaster Phunk and a new face to PSW, but he is quickly recognized by Naess and Curran as former DAVE and FCW manager, Carl Batch. The three men make their way down to the ring and Batch takes a mic.

Batch – “This is the first time in 7 years I have set foot in Philadelphia, and I see that it is still full of some of the ugliest people in the world….I see why they call this place the city of brotherly love…because the women in the town would make just about any man prefer the company of another man to any of the slugs you call women in the town.”

Fans start booing and some start throwing things into the ring….

Batch – “ Ha…boo all you want, but you know I am right…..now, The Extreme Dream Team was standing in the back watching the previous match and we knew we had to come out and save this show for the sake of our livelihoods. Philadelphia….the two men standing behind me are the top two men in Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling…first we have the king of sexy…..theGrandmaster himself….Grandmaster Phunk.”

The crowd lets out a loud chorus of boos….

Batch – “And the other man needs no introduction….he is YOUR champion…the man who has beaten everyone on the roster…and has been PSW Champion for over a year….Greg Black. Now, the rumors have been flying around the Googles and interwebs that Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling is under new management….sorry Mitch, you just weren’t good enough…..so as my first service to the new man in charge….I want to offer my services….you see, Greg has been working very hard the last year beating all comers for the PSW Championship….so he will be taking the rest of the month off….and at the first Pay Per View in April…he will take on a man that I have handpicked…..”

Before he can finish, the big screen lights up with a picture of Eric Tyler and

hits and he walks out from the back with a mic and makes his way down to the ring….

Tyler – “CUT THE DAMN MUSIC!!! For those of you that may not know me....my name is The Traditionalist, Eric Tyler..... For those of you with an IQ not high enough to understand that....I am the man that saved professional wrestling in the 1990s! That piece of s*** Richard Eisen took my sport and turned it into a cartoon....I went to a small little nothing company called Danger and Violence Extreme and turned it into a power that saved this business....and you jackasses had better show me some respect! Back in that dressing room, I am widely regarded as the most intelligent man in this business today...now Carl….you and I go back a ways….and while I respect you and what your boy Greg have accomplished…..but I have found a man who is standing in the back who many people around the business feel is the future of our sport….I just wanted to come out here and work out an agreement that when he is ready…you will be fair and give my man a shot at the title.”

Batch – “Eric…we appreciate your initiative and your offer…and the champ would be glad to….”

Johnny Martin’s music begins to play and out comes the DAVE Icon, wearing a throwback shirt from his DAVE days, carrying a Singapore cane. He walks down to the ring and wastes no time, taking a mic…

Martin – “I hate to break up the circle jerk that is going on in the ring right now….but these people didn’t come here to watch four grown men play grab ass in the ring…..Carl….you said that Greg has beaten everyone in the back….well I have news for you….there is one man he has been too scared to face….and you’re looking at him.”

Phunk and Black step toward Martin, who raises the Singapore cane ready to fend off the two men…

Black – “Greg Black don’t duck no body!!”

As Black drops the mic…..

begins to play throughout the arena. The fans begin to cheer loudly and chanting “TOO EXTREME” as Phil Vilbert’s face is shown on the big screen. All five men in the ring stop and look toward the back…..

Curran – “Woah! Can it really be your former boss and DAVE head honcho here in Philadelphia?!”

Naess – “It sure is….listen to this crowd….Philly always packed this place for the DAVE shows, and even seven years later they as loud and rowdy as I remember. “

He steps out from the back with the DAVE Unified Title draped over his shoulder. He makes his way to the ring looking around at the crowd and with a smirk on his face, he pulls a mic out from inside his sport coat as the fans continue to chant “VIL-BERT!”

Vilbert – “Well good….you remember who I am….and for those that don’t….my name is Phil Vilbert, and contrary to what others say….I am the smartest man in this room!”

Eric Tyler looks pissed and the fans erupt and the “TOO EXTREME” chant echoes throughout the building.

Curran – “He’s not cocky at all, is he…..”

Vilbert – “Seven years ago they told me I had to close my doors for good…..seven years ago they told me that I had to give up something that took me fifteen years to build….and it was seven years ago that I last stood in this arena…in this ring…with this title belt over my shoulder and had to say goodbye to all of you.”

Vilbert looks around the arena as the fans cheers are too loud for him to continue….he raises his hand to quiet them down and then continues…

Vilbert – “I spent the last five years up north helping the DeColt’s stay in business, and you know what I kept hearing? They kept telling me you will never get back what you had with DAVE….and ‘it was fun while it lasted, but the fans just don’t want that style anymore…..well, to all those ass-clowns that told me I would never be able to come home…..here is a big F – YOU!!!!”

Vilbert raises the DAVE Unified Title belt over his head along with his middle finger as the crowd chants “ASS-CLOWNS” and “F*** YOU”.

Vilbert – “Now I didn’t come out here to waste everyone’s time with a ‘This is Your Life’ speech….no, that is something you get down south with Sam Strong and his geriatric ward…..you people want action…and that is what I am going to give you…now will the five of you get the hell out of MY ring so the show can continue? “

Batch, Phunk and Black climb out of the ring and begin to walk up the ramp….

Vilbert – “Phunk…..Greg….Carl….before you go……make sure you don’t go anywhere….because later tonight….you two will be facing Johnny Martin and a partner of his choosing in a tag team match….”

The fans erupt as Phunk, Black and Batch look pissed and walk to the back…..Martin stares down Eric Tyler and gives a nod to Vilbert as he walks to the back….Phil Vilbert puts the mic back in his coat and climbs down from the ring….

Tyler – “Phi…before you go….I know you are new around here but I want to offer my advise on who you need to get rid of….there are two punks in the back who have been standing in the way of progression around here….two men who are nothing but dead weight….Steven Parker and Matthew Keith need to be on the next bus to New York City or down to Matthew’s daddy’s place in Baltimore…my man James Hernandez can more than make up for…..”

hits and out from the back come both Keith and Parker…they start yelling from the top of the ramp at Tyler. Tyler drops his mic and takes off his jacket and starts to yell back, when from behind James Hernandez nails both Parker and Keith with a steel chair, leaving them both laying on the ramp. Tyler looks at Hernandez, smiles and picks up his jacket and mic and looks at Vilbert and leaves the ring with Hernandez.

A very annoyed looking Lisa Bowen is in the locker room with Madman Boone and interviews him about his match with Dean McWade. Boone says he knows all about the McWade Brothers and their violent history in the ring, but they have never faced someone as crazy as the Madman and he will officially welcome them to PSW.

Match #2 – For the PSW National Championship

Campbell and Angeletti come down to the ring followed by Powell who gets a pretty big pop from the crowd.
Powell wastes no time getting to work on Campbell. He uses his quickness and experience to keep the bigger and younger Campbell off balance and was in control most of the match.
Powell has Campbell set up for a Death Valley Driver when Nelson Callum appears from the crowd and nails Powell from behind as Angeletti distracted referee RM Stones. Campbell recovers and climbs to the top rope and lands a Shooting Star Press for the win.
Winner - Ash Campbell defeated Teddy Powell in 8:59 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press following interference from Nelson Callum. Ash Campbell wins the PSW National title.

Campbell and Callum continue the beating on Powell with the direction of Angeletti. She directs Callum to get a table from under the ring and set it up. Just then

and the big man rushes down to the ring and levels Callum on the outside and chances off Campbell, who retreats up the ramp holding his new championship belt.

Match #3 – Philadelphia Street Fight

Madman Boone comes down first with barbed wire wrapped around his head and carrying a 2x4 over his shoulder. Dean McWade enters next carrying a bag of thumb tacks and a Stop sign that has a huge dent in it.
Both men start off by trading big rights and lefts in the middle of the ring until McWade uses his size advantage to knock Boone off his feet and uses the Stop sign on Boone. The match goes back and forth inside the ring until McWade gets knocked through the ropes and onto the floor.
They fight back up the ramp toward the stage where Madman Boone takes a huge bump off the stage through some tables that McWade had set up and laid the thumb tacks on.
McWade goes for the pin but Boone kicks out on 2….McWade picks up Boone and throws him toward the guardrail but Boone somehow just bounces off and hits a running forearm to take McWade off his feet and grabs the barbed wire and lays it across McWade’s body and jumps off the stage again onto the barbed wire and McWade.
Both men are bloody and beaten but Boone somehow manages recover enough to land the Boone And Bust on McWade and gets the pin on the ramp.
Winner - Madman Boone defeated Dean McWade in 9:48 by pinfall with a Boone And Bust.

Curran – “What a bloody mess….both of those men killed themselves…I have no idea how either of them walked out of here on their own”

Naess – “Me either….and I doubt we have seen the last of those two men go after each other….well it is now time for the Main Event….earlier tonight, Greg Black and Grandmaster Phunk were told they would face Johnny Martin and a partner of his choosing….well we have learned that he will be joined by JD Morgan….now…let’s go to the ring.”

Match #4 – Main Event

Johnny Martin & JD Morgan vs

Black and Phunk come down to the ring and Black shows off his PSW Championship belt to the crowd. Martin’s music hits and he is accompanied by another DAVE legend and first ever PSW Champion JD Morgan.
Match begins with Morgan and Phunk going back and forth. Black would hit Morgan as he bounced off the ropes and it allowed them to take the advantage. The would continue to keep Morgan away from Martin until the cocky Greg Black made mistake that allowed Morgan to tag Martin.
Martin charges Black and knocks him out of the ring and then takes Phunk out. Martin goes outside and brings Black inside and continues the beating. Martin sets Black up for a pile driver, when Andre Jones charges the ring and spears Martin and then picks him up for a power slam.
Carl Batch and Grandmaster Phunk pull JD Morgan down from the apron and handcuff him to one of the ropes.
Black gets to his feet and lands the Big League Play on Martin for the pin.
Winner - Greg Black and Grandmaster Phunk defeated JD Morgan and Johnny Martin in 12:23 when Greg Black defeated Johnny Martin by pinfall with a Big League Play.

Black, Phunk, Jones and Batch continue the attack on Martin, while Morgan is handcuffed to the bottom rope when

plays and out from the back comes The Hardcore American Chris Caulfield wielding a chair and kendo stick. He lays out a charging Andre Jones on the ramp with the chair and slides in the ring and uses the kendo stick on both Phunk and Black, knocking them both out of the ring and the retreat up the ramp.

Naess – “Oh my god! That is Chris Caulfield!!! He has not been seen in months since he left USPW after losing to Bruce The Giant last November. We are out of time….we will see you next week!”

The show ends with Caulfield standing on the middle rope holding the chair gesturing for any of the three men to come back to the ring and Batch and Phunk have to hold Andre Jones back.
