The "Butterfly" Effect is often associated to just how delicate the occurrences of history are. Kill a butterfly in China, cause an earthquake in Los Angeles. Kill a man, lose the cure to cancer. Every decision we make, big or small, leads to a chain of events, which in correspondence, creates billions of alternate universes, in which the consequences of each decision are mirrored. Within this narrative, we will be focusing on one decision, in which the course of wrestling history will be drastically changed. However, we will not be solely focused on the demise of one company...but rather the rise of another... March 29, 2015 On the grandest stage of them all, the two muscle-bound warriors stood across from each other, each man glaring with enough ferocity to strike fear in all but the bravest man. One corner stood a monstrous man, pale in complexion, hulk-like in stature. The titan of a man bounced up-and-down, stone-faced in focus. Behind him, a balding, rotund but intelligent-looking man grinned, and worded some inaudible words of encouragement. In the other corner stood a stoic, handsome man of dark complexion, his gaze seemingly fixed upon his gargantuan opponent. His long flowing hair, his colorful tribal tattoos, all displayed centuries of his decorated Samoan lineage, coming from a family of wrestling heroes, football legends and movie stars. We all know how the story of Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns ends, right? Or do we....? ...1... ...2... ...3... *DING DING DING!!* Michael Cole: OMGOOOOOODESSSSSS!!!!! Jerry Lawler: AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Lilian Garcia: AAAAAANDDDDD YOUR NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWW. WOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD....HEAVYYYYYYWEEIIIIIGHTTTTTT CHAMPIOOOOOOOONN.............. ROMAN...REEEEEEEIIIIIIIIGGGNSSSSSSSSS!!!!! That day defined wrestling... The Monday Night Raw after Wrestlemania 31 was the most polarizing wrestling show in the history of the business. The villian, the unwanted hero, Roman Reigns had become wrestling's top star, and the most rejected star in the business. The fans, disgusted by a the last shot of WM 31 being Reigns celebrating in confetti while being greeted with a chorus of boos became the figurehead of a push to change WWE for good. Many fans were optimistic however. The forums with Wrestlezone and r/SquaredCircle believed that the win was all a farce, and that internet favorite, Seth Rollins, would cash in his title shot to become the new champion... Boy, they could not be more wrong. After defeating Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner Big Show in a match that could be best describe as a snooze-fest, Reigns thwarted off Rollin's cash-in attempt, kicking out of multiple curbstomps to win via spear. After his win over the Architect, Reigns was followed by a standard assault by The Authority. The crowd booed as the return of Sheamus could not quell the anger amongst the wrestling fans. Apathy remained, as Sheamus turned on Reigns, brogue kicking him after helping Reigns clean house. Sheamus's assault on Reigns lead to the most positive reaction within the segment. The months that followed became WWE's darkest timeline. Reigns and Sheamus became the headlining feud, causing apathy within the ranks of the WWE Universe, their storyline often outshadowed by the more popular midcard champions, John Cena and Daniel Bryan. After finally defeating Sheamus at Summerslam, Reigns was assaulted by NXT Champion, Kevin Owens, which finally brought interest back into the WWE title picture. That feud continues today... The landscape of WWE has changed since Wrestlemania... Brock Lesnar quietly left the company, angry at Vince McMahon at his lost to "an unworthy opponent". Many believe that he is training to return to UFC, and it is highly unlikely that he would ever return to the wrestling business. WWE released notable names due to Network budget cuts and falling PPV rates. Notable names include former US champion Cesaro, former World Heavyweight Champion Mark Henry, Adam Rose, Titus O'Neil and Rosa Mendez. WWE star Randy Orton was the biggest casualty, but not because of his price, but rather his 3rd strike on his wellness policy in addition to his shoot on the company after he was used to put over up-and-comer Bray Wyatt. While WWE struggled during this timeline, their main rival, TNA, went out of business. The future remains unclear for wrestling.... WWE's stranglehold within the industry has been well-known. Fans want something new...but what is there? Companies such as Lucha Underground and Ring of Honor don't have the finances available to trump the largest company in the business. The Japanese product is not as universal as WWE, and the Luchadore product is seemingly pigeonholed to Mexican audiences. The last time WWE had a legitimate challenger, WCW had the talent, the money, the mainstream attention. But bad booking and a hands-off approach from a disinterested owner ultimately lead to WCW to fall short in becoming WWE's successor. What if...a wrestling company was created in order to rival WWE; a company created to universalize the sport of pro wrestling? Owned by an owner, young ambitious, one with innate knowledge within a squared circle? An owner worth as much as Vincent Kennedy McMahon and enough draw to fill arenas by himself? Who is this man? What does he have in store? The date is 11/05/2015. I experimented with a few customer fonts, but this gave off the most cryptic, official view. The rest is default font, and the bolded font is Impact. Good luck with your next diary as well!
