You have to create (using the in-game editor) your new character (see my planning sheets on the Steam Community thread (in Artworks)) and then the artwork. The full-size character images are 600x400 pixels and the head/face images are 200x200. Use the painting software of your choice. Then you use the editor to Merge your new design with the existing database. Somewhere on these GreyDogSoftware forums, you'll find the original backgrounds that you can copy and use if you want to keep stylistic consistency with the original game and existing mods.
