Gridiron Glory Dynasty: Wisconsin Badgers

Recommended Posts

I will be copy-pasting my articles from our Gridiron Glory Forums, so, read here or there, won't matter. It's always been a dream of mine to coach the Wisconsin Badgers and here I am, doing just that in the Gridiron Glory league where there are seventy some human owners. We've got a great squad of players; a good RB, a good senior QB and young WR's who are ready to step it up. Here are our depth charts for offense and defense. Our kicker is pretty bad, so hopefully we won't have to rely on him much... our punter on the other hand, has a very good leg, so our defense should benefit from this. Week 1 - #17 Wisconsin vs Florida Atlantic Besides two let-downs(76 and 36 yard TD's) in the secondary we played a helluva game. Deveren Liske proved that he's a running back to be reckoned with. He opened the scoring midway through the first quarter with a three yard touchdown run and then later on in the quarter with a two yard TD catch. Liske finished with 125 yards on the day while Stransky came up big as well with eight carries for 81 yards. QB Albert Mitchell played a near perfect game. He didn't force any bad passes nor did he make any great passes, it was just one of those days where everything was pretty easy peasy. He completed 27 of 39 for 302 yards and 4 TD passes, two of them to #3 WR Shaw. True freshman Benny Benners had 9 completions for 124 yards in his debut! Heck of a job by the youngster. Another freshman, our #4 receiver brought in seven catches for 104 yards. I'm impressed by the youngsters, that's for sure. Defensively we played very very well except for the stuff I already mentioned; the two long passes for touchdowns, other than those two, our pass defense was excellent, three interceptions! We also recovered a fumble, so four turnovers caused by our defense on the day, very nice indeed. To go along with that, we allowed a total of 13 rushing yards by the two main backs! That includes Tinker Prince's one yard on nine carries; he's going to be a good player though for the rest of the season, I can see it happening for him. I was very impressed with our play and I hope it carries over to next week where we should have no problem with Arkansas State, where we're favorites by 25. Yikes. The final score is 38-17 as we win easily after starting the game with a 21-0 lead. POG: Albert Mitchell

Week 2 vs Arkansas State(1-0) - We're favorites by 25 We were heavy favorites going into the game and we showed the reason why, winning 31-0. Same heroes as last week, Liske and Mitchell both having spectacular games. Mitchell was 27 of 43 for 354 yards and 3 TD including a 92 yard touchdown pass to WR Lipscomb, who had two touchdown catches. Liske on the other hand ran the ball 30 times for 226 yards and a touchdown. Surprisingly his longest run of the day was only 27 yards, his YPC was 7.5! Impressive. Our kicking game as we figured, was weak, Kicker Luckman was 1 for 3 on the day, nailing a 33 yarder. Defensively we stepped it up huge again, but we gave up more yards on the ground this week.. 69 yards, and 117 yards in the air totalling 186 for the day! Wow! This puts our defense at #5 in the country! Our offense is 6th in the country. This doesn't tell us much considering our opponents, so we'll wait for our celebrations another day. We move to 2-0 and will face a better team next week in Marshal(0-1). We don't change our game plan too much as to not give away anything once conference games start, but everything will be about the same anyways. Against Marshall, we'll have to put a halt to two very tough players in QB McNeal and RB Parks; if we stop them like Cal did last week we'll be just fine. POG: RB Liske

Week 3 vs 0-1 Marshall We were favorites again heading into this game, I forget by how much... Marshal nearly came back from 18 down midway through the third quarter to win this one... They score 22 points if the fourth quarter to put the final score eventually at 45-39! What a high scoring affair. Despite giving up 39 points we only gave up 414 yards to keep our defensive rank at #9 in the country, so that's a plus.... sort of! QB Mitchell threw his first interception of the season, but it didn't hinder his overall performance one bit...20 of 30, 312 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT. Liske had his third straight 100+ yard performance, but it was Stranskey who played fantastic in support of Liske...6 carries for 77 yards while both running backs had a touchdown each. Good day on the ground for us! The OL did fantastic with opening holes and protecting the QB. Last week we gave up 7 sacks but this week was completely different, only one sack! Woot! Benners and Lipscomb both pulled in two touchdowns on the day! Benners has three on the season while Lipscomb is up to four. All these offensive performances is good enough to put our offense at #3 in the country, behind only Clemson and South Carolina. SS McBride leads the team in interceptions with three, picking up another interception today. We go to 3-0 as we head into conference play. We face off with an 11th ranked Purdue team(1-1). How they're ranked ahead of us, I don't know, but that is all about to change.. We're favorites by 9 points this week.

Week 4 vs Purdue We lose thanks to a piss poor secondary. Honestly though, if we don't give up so many damn deep balls we would have won this game. I see passes for 40 yards, 25 yards, 59 yards.. ugh.. Our DB's are horrible and if we had decent ones we'd be a-okay. Next year will be different, I can say that much. As you can probably tel we lost, to Purdue, 30-21. We had a 7-3 lead nearing halftime, but Purdue was able to get one final drive going with under two minutes to go in the first half thanks to a 59 yard out pass.. which they eventually turned into 7 points to have the 10-7 lead at the half. Then we got off to a good start in the second half until our secondary let up another long pass, this one 41 yards that set up another field goal. 14-13 with a few minutes to go in the third quarter. All was looking okay at this point. Well, Purdue started the fourth quarter with another stinkin' field goal. 16-13. Then QB Mitchell went ahead and threw an interception deep in Purdue territory, which we then gave up yet another 40 yard pass. They went ahead to get a touchdown, taking a 23-14 lead. But we answered right back with a touchdown of our own with over seven minutes to play, 23-21! All we needed was a good defensive stop.... Nope, another bomb, this one for 39 yards. Then later in that drive, a 28 yard touchdown pass. I have to give credit to the Purdue coach who really exposed our secondary for what it was/is; bad. Congrats to a good hard fought win! We get 3-1 PSU next week.

Week 6 vs Iowa After suffering a pitiful 48-31 loss to Penn State we had to get back into the swing of things against a good Iowa Hawkeye team. We're 3-2 at the moment and in need of a big win! Things didn't get off to a good start as Iowa got on the board right away to take a 7-0 lead. But we were able to come back with four straight scores(2 FG, 2 TD) to take a 20-7 lead into the fourth quarter. Our defense played real well for us to get this win! Our offense was pretty average, but our defense allowed 284 hard earned yards against a stellar Iowa offense. A 20-14 win for us gets us back into the mix of things(well, not really, we're still two back of PSU and Minnesota) in the Big Ten. Next week we'll continue our string of 10 games in a row against Michigan State, who's 3-3.

 • 2 weeks later...
I'm not giving up on it.. I keep getting too caught in my solo dynasty that I basically forget to do this one. I'll try to update the last two games. Definitely, maybe we can schedule a game next year if I've got an opening. I'm not sure if I have all my games for one year or two, since a few of them were computer offered schedulings.

Week Eight Vs Michigan We knew going into the game it was going to be a tough one. Michigan has only lost once and they're still in the hunt for the Big 10 title. Another loss for us would most definitely knock us out, so it was a must-win situation for us. The first half was a good battle between the two teams, 17-14 was the score, UM in the lead. But after that it was pretty much all Michigan. They scored 13 straight points before we finally put together a good drive for a touchdown, making it 30-22 with some hope left for us. But our offense wouldn't come back to play for the rest of the day and the final score ended up being 40-22. Week 9 vs Indiana We knew this week would be much different than the game against Michigan. We weren't going to have problem winning this one, which triggered my decision to take the redshirt off Freshman QB Shurron Millen. The kid had been complaining and basically threatening to transfer after the season. We couldn't let that happen, he's too big of a piece in our future, so we decided to give the kid the start against a poor Indiana team. If he falters, big deal, the rest of the team should still be able to lead us to victory. QB Mitchell will still be getting some snaps, in critical situations and such, but for the most part, Millen will get a shot to shine. Indiana got the scoring going first, giving them a 7-0 lead. Millen comes right back with nices passes for 31 and 60 yards setting up Mitchell who came in for a play to throw a 1 yard touchdown pass, tying the game back up at 7. In the second quarter, Indiana came back with a score of their own to take the lead right back! 14-7. But Millen wouldn't let that last through the half as he connected with McCoy for the touchdown, tying it up as we went into halftime. In the second half, we got the scoring started with a touchdown from Liske who ran it in from one yard out. 21-14, but that only lasted until a few minutes left in the third quarter where Indiana kept it close with a field goal. 21-17. That would be the closest Indiana gets as Liske gets another touchdown run and Millen throws another touchdown pass to close out the game making the final score 35-17 as we roll to a solid victory with the True Freshman QB! We move to 6-3 as we start our consecutive games against one win teams before our bye week. Then we face one of the top teams in the country that is Minnesota and it's going to be at home! Good game there.
Wisconsin: 35, Indiana: 17

Week 10 we will see Illinois, who is 1-5 this year. This should be another game much like the Indiana game, except we'll see Mitchell back in the starting spot. Millen will back him up though. This is a big game for us, we need the win to get back into the Top 25 and get some big momentum heading into the Minnesota game! I really want to beat them! LOL
