Bruce Prichard credits the OJ trial as having saved their keister in terms of avoiding more media attention as to what they were being accused of or taken to court on. I know Rick has previous history tagging with the "man called Sting" and thought that Vince would naturally go after Scott because of his body. But Scott has a more non-traditional approach to wrestling, and Vinnie Mac may think he's unsafe. If I recall, Rick actually was considered a better prospect than Scott at the time, and his push in WCW reflected it. I never thought he made a great heel, but maybe Vince sees something we don't. I'm guessing that Steiner will be used as a heel, given the imbalance in WWF's roster right now, but they may go the face route. As for why Rick over Scott... I genuinely have no idea. If I had to pick one of the two for WWF to steal it'd have been Rick, so I can't complain - Frankensteiners all around in the singles division, maybe? I really like what you're doing with Flair and the Thrillseekers. Thanks! Whether Flair will become a permanent manager for them, a consultant for hire, or if it's all just a smokescreen until he's ready to walk the walk again remains to be seen. That's an interesting point I'd not considered, but it does make sense. I imagine the American media were pretty merciless with Vince's woes, given the way they covered the Simpson trial, but Vince would have been small potatoes compared to OJ. Honestly, it's prety remarkable that WWE is still around given the number of ways it could have been killed over the years. Bruce talks a lot of WWF history from the 80s onwards (plus a lot more territory stuff than you'd expect regarding Texas, Louisiana and the like) while Tony covers a lot of Crockett, WCW and NWO stuff). Both of the podcasts are done with a friend of Ric Flair called Conrad Thompson (whose actually now engaged to Ric's older daughter Megan), and they're actually pretty fun. Fair warning though, Tony's foul-mouthed to a surprising degree and Bruce lies through his teeth whenever he thinks he can get away with it. It's been defended once outside of WCW since the game started, when Debbie Combs and Sindy Paradise faced off in the PWF. Oddly, the LPWA and LMLW are both part of the NWA now, but they don't seem interested in booking the title at all. Maybe Madusa's too expensive, or the title's not prestigious enough?</p><p> </p><p> I reactivated the NWA Junior Heavyweight title to see if I could book it in a similar style to the WCW Light Heavyweight title that was active in WCW in 1991-1993 or so. Impressively, the NWA gave the title to Jerry Lynn before I could book it on a show. I then gave it to Jushin Liger as an experiment, but when his loan expired the title was vacated. I suspect he'd have kept the belt if NJPW were part of the NWA. Tony Rumble then had a fairly lengthy run on the indies with the belt, but just broke his neck so the title's vacant.</p><p> </p><p> The NWA World title went to Denny Brown when Ric dropped the belt shortly before he lost the WCW title. Brown had a two week reign before losing to Stan Lee (not that one) who I immediately booked to lose the title to Jerry Lawler. Lawler's contract has expired, but in any case he's already dropped the belt to... He’d thought about delivering a motivational speech, but such things were best used sparingly – and SuperBrawl was only a few weeks ago. Besides, there’s a lot of new bodies in the company right now. Hart, Michaels, Liger... They’re not all used to me. Not that the Nature Boy couldn’t get their blood pumping if I had to! The NWA’s desire to crown World Tag Team champions had reared its head once more a few weeks before. Ric had forgotten all about it, but apparently not answering their letter had been taken as a sign of acquiescence, and now WCW faced the need to incorporate a tournament into their coming month of shows. Which stopped a lot of other matches from being booked for the Clash, and then we realised that scheduling prevented most of the first round matches being booked for the show, and... He shook his head. It had been a disorganised month even without that – Rick Steiner’s abrupt departure had scuttled several days’ work leading up to Wrestle War. The older of the brothers had turned out to be a keystone in the booking framework, and even now shows were being rewritten to adapt to his departure. The belated inclusion of the tournament was actually welcomed by Jim Crockett and Michael Hayes, who’d declared that the tournament practically wrote itself – and would cover up a multitude of sins over the coming weeks. But the tournament is already causing problems. We leant Arn to CMLL to bring in one of their guys, and Arn picked up an injury. We’ve had to rebook his match to accommodate that – but at least it wasn’t Rude or Ricky! There would be another Clash in a month’s time, and certain storylines would simmer until then, or Wrestle War the month later, and it wasn’t necessarily bad for things to move slowly... but the last month had seen the Dangerous Alliance take centre stage on almost every show as the booking team tried to cover for the loss of the tag titles until a permanent partner for Scott could be identified. Such a tactic only further enraged Steiner and seemed to lead him into peril as Pillman and Hart worked him over mercilessly, but a double Steinerline to the Connection stopped them cold, and let Steiner make it to the tag. Sting exploded into the ring and peppered Hart and Pillman with clotheslines, sending them over the top ropes and out of the ring and leaving Anderson to be hip-tossed over the ropes and into the ring, which the referee seemed to take as being as good as a tag. With Pillman and Hart reeling, Sting bombarded the injured Enforcer with a flurry of running clotheslines before pressing him overhead and dropping him face-first to the mat. That is shaping up to be excellent. The Bret Hart promo was good! The WCW World Title match was great and really liked how you ended the show with the arrival of.... There were as many as 13 championships pretending to be just that in 1957, and it only thinned out big time when 6 were deactivated when their territories joined the AWA. Jim Crockett Promotions became the last promotion standing with NWA World Tag Team titles in 1984, when the Polynesian Wrestling promotion run by the Rock's grandparents shut down. So you'd think that Jim Crockett (still NWA President at this time) of all people would want to legitimize his former championship rather than make a new mess of things, but no... I just assumed until I started writing this that there was a set of NWA World Tag Titles that had become vacant and so the NWA decided to piggyback on WCW to fill the spot. But no, 13 different sets. Of course, that was easier to maintain when people rarely left their home town (let alone state/region) and there was little or no TV coverage, but even by the 60s it must have started causing issues.
