One thing WCW always had was a strong tag team division, so having the World and the US Titles was ideal, because there were so many teams deserving of a title run, but maybe not deserving of a World Title run....(like your Southern Boys/Young Pistols) or the veteran teams that were maybe winding down (the Freebirds around this time) and the US tag belts were perfect for that....I was really gutted when the US belts were retired so when they ran the tournament for the NWA Tag Team Titles I was pretty excited....of course Dok and Gordy pretty much immediately unified them with the WCW titles so my excitement was short lived, but that's regardless.....I wouldn't be surprised to see the US belts slowly get faded out here as well (or maybe unified with either the World or NWA titles, with the Calgary Connection winning one or the other) because I think three tag titles and the six man titles might be a slight overkill, but again, I'll be sad to see the back of them, visually they were one of my favourite titles (along with the Television Title that you're currently using in your pictures).....oh and for the record, I like the Beverly Brothers :p

Great show by the way, the Bret Hart promo was excellent and I'm excited to see what direction you take the Warrior in, I know a lot of people s*it on the Warriors in ring work, but with the right opponent he had some great matches, and you just happen to have two of the right opponents on the roster with Savage and Rude.....I know he's technically a tweener, but since that's not really been a choice in game since EWR (maybe one of the earlier TEW's I don't remember) what alignment have you actually given him?

Thanks to4sty, and I agree about the look of the titles - the old MACW United States title they were using up until early 1991 remains my all-time favourite title belt. Although the WCW revamp was far from bad (and a lot better than the WWE's dog-ugly re-do and the unmentionable spinner belt) there was something about that heavy gold and blue/red paint work...

Anyway, it stays.

I was also very confused, when I first started looking into the history of wrestling prior to my getting into it in 1990 - the 1980s TV title design was everywhere. It was even one of the Hogan-era WWF titles, but for me it belongs to Steve Austin and this era of WCW.

What amuses me though is how many titles were dropped for the AWA while other titles were dropped for localized titles like in Vancouver or Amarillo. There really was no reason to have a "World" Tag Team title for any territory, and the primary legacies was California (dead by the 80s), Chicago (AWA by the 80s) and Crockett.

I had no idea the NWA licensed its 'brand' like that - I assumed there was a genuine agreement with CMLL over them the way there was any other NWA title. How interesting!

Anyway, before I get too sidetracked...

World Championship Wrestling presents: Saturday Night

Saturday, Week 4, March 1992

Your commentators: Jim Ross and Paul E. Dangerously

Segment of the Night – 5 successful defences? Congratulations!

8pRFZsl.jpgfw58PGi.jpg

Steve Austin had his hands raised in victory by Madusa and the referee before Madusa moved to strap the belt back around Austin’s waist. However, the referee held onto the title, staring at Madusa in surprise as she tried to take it from him. He held firm, even when Austin joined in the impromptu tug of war.

Dangerously:
What’s going on? That official is overstepping his bounds. That title belongs to Stunning Steve Austin, and he has no right-

Ross:
Uh, Paul?

Dangerously:
What, Ross?

myJ9THe.jpg

Commissioner Ventura walked down the aisle, looking as though he had other places he wanted to be.

Ventura
:
Madusa, give it up. Austin, let go of that title. It doesn’t belong to you any more!

Austin
:
What? What are you talking about, Ventura?

Ventura
:
That’s Commissioner Ventura, Austin. You had your five defences, and congratulations – you’ll get a check for fifteen grand tomorrow.

Austin
:
Yeah, and I want another check for the same in five defences time!

Ventura
:
That’s not how this works...

He turned and looked across at the announcers’ table.

Ventura
:
Did Paul E. not tell you? He’s the brains of your outfit, ain’t he?

Austin
:
What are you talking about?

Ventura
:
The Beat The Champ rules have been the same ever since they were first introduced. The champ defends the title, wins a grand a time, and if they make it to five defences they win fifteen grand. It’s almost never been accomplished, because it’s so tough. You can be proud of making it, kid.

Ventura
:
But after five defences... the title is vacated! It’s time for someone else to step up and be the champ. So let go of the belt, Austin.

Dangerously:
What?

Austin
:
What?

Austin let go in surprise.

Ventura:
You can always make a challenge to Beat The Champ again, just like you did to win the belt... but there’s gotta be a new champ, and that’s going to be decided right here, right now. I owe Harley Race a favour, so Mr Hughes will fight for the title against one of the former champions – Marcus Bagwell! And that’s happening right now!

As Hughes and Bagwell made their entrances, Austin and Madusa continued protesting – wholly in vain, as Commissioner Ventura had already left the ring. On commentary, Dangerously was similarly apoplectic.

Dangerously:
This is a disgrace! This is prejudice, clear prejudice, I’ll have WCW in court over this tomorrow! Where’s my phone, I need to call Tricky Dicky Dangerously and get this thing moving, I-

Ross:
You mean to say, you really didn’t know? Well, just goes to show you should always read the small print, Paul.

Dangerously:
Shut up, Ross!

WCW Hotline Show Notes

If it was up to Commissioner Ventura, the man who invaded the ring at the Clash would be banned from WCW for life – the Commissioner regards him as dangerously unpredictable, and when you’re willing to trust Cactus Jack but not this other man, that’s saying a lot! But even with Mr Hughes, Dan Spivey, Cactus Jack and a whole phalanx of security guards patrolling the arena, the newcomer still found a way to the ring by show’s end. What can this mean for WCW, for Commissioner Ventura, and for the World champion, Rick Rude?

We were expecting a world tag team title match this Saturday night. Instead we got another hellacious Dangerous Alliance assault, this time on Scott Steiner. The Michigan native held his own in impressive fashion against five-on-one odds, almost throwing Arn Anderson across the locker room, but was eventually overwhelmed and left lying before Sting and Dustin Rhodes could make the save. That led to the night’s main event with Austin being forced to wrestle for a second time by Commissioner Ventura (and you can imagine what Dangerously had to say about that!) alongside Rick Rude against Sting and Rhodes. The match itself ran almost half an hour (and we’d like to thank TBS for allowing the overrun!) as Rhodes and Sting tore the house down against the Alliance pairing. Either side could have won it, and at one point Sting had Rude begging for help in the Scorpion Deathlock, but Madusa successfully distracted the official. In the resulting chaos Austin managed to roll Rhodes up and, with his feet on the ropes, score the pin for his side. It seemed like a great night for the Alliance...

...except for one little detail...

The second match of the NWA tag title tournament saw teams from north and south of the border collide as the Calgary Connection faced off against the young Mexican duo of Juventud Guerrera and Rey Mysterio Jr. This was an aerial war with the masked duo wowing the crowd with their incredible athleticism, but both are young and inexperienced, which meant that their Canadian opponents were eventually able to ground them for the win. The Connection could easily go all the way in this tournament – who is there to stop them?

Steve Austin made his fifth defence of the TV title, beating Bobby Eaton after Madusa passed him the cellphone to use. He was pleased with his victory and winnings – but not so much with the aftermath! Immediately afterwards, Bagwell and Hughes faced off for the TV title and Hughes emerged triumphant with a Torture Rack on the youngster. Harley Race has his first gold as a manager – and who’ll want to try and Beat
This
Champ?

Ron Simmons seemed to be spoiling for a fight tonight after his Clash defeat to Bret Hart. He faced another new arrival in Shawn Michaels and fared a little better, emerging with a DQ win, but only after Diamond Dallas Page interfered and levelled the All-American with a move he’s dubbed the Diamond Cutter!

But if Austin and Dangerously were unhappy about the TV title situation, Thomas Rich was no more pleased, demanding to know why Alexandra York hadn’t got him into the match for the briefly vacant belt. Terence Taylor stepped in to defend their manager, and the pair nearly came to blows before York promised to get Rich a title shot soon.

Bret Hart wants competition, and doesn’t seem to think that local competitor Paul Levesque fits the bill. Commissioner Ventura, who was having a rough night, promised Hart that his next match would be a real challenge – but declined to say against who.

Ric Flair was discussing potential business backstage when he ran into Rude and Austin, who had time amongst their other concerns to mock him for trying to copy their own manager and duck out of facing them. Flair laughed off the idea, saying that he had enough experience to pass on to others – and still hold the edge over young punks like Austin and Rude. Maybe it’s me imagining things, but Flair seems to be regaining his spark...

Show rating: A

OOC: Congrats to Brian Pillman, who scored an A* performance rating in the tag match. Were Juvi and Rey even remotely over, this could have been a classic – but I yanked them out of development for the night to fill the #16 slot in the tournament, so they both scored an E-. Such is life.

</p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Ric Flair offered Tracy Smothers and Steve Armstrong some advice before their US tag title match against the Calgary Connection, suggesting they distract Hart and Pillman with trash talk wherever possible. The strategy proved fruitful, with Pillman in particular getting riled up and almost losing off a Double Dropkick, but Madusa pulled the referee out of the ring to break the count. Given a second chance – and barracked by Madusa from the outside – the Connection rallied and worked through their opponents’ offence, before picking up the win with a Missile Dropkick on Armstrong.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The NWA tag tournament continued with the popular Japanese duo of the Great Muta and Jushin Thunder Liger battling the distinctly unpopular Loud And Proud. Johnny B. Badd may have been making his return after a month on the sidelines, but he wasn’t welcomed back with open arms – far from it, as the crowd were quite partisan in their support of the New Japan duo. Badd and Scotty Flamingo showed their adeptness at both flying and brawling, and as a regular team they had spells where they isolated Liger to keep Muta at bay. However, Liger and Muta are both incredible talents, and their skill won out over time as they put Badd down after a stunning Moonsault from Muta.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Diamond Exchange made their first successful defence of the Six Man titles over the local trio of Duke Droese, Jimmy Jannetty and Joshua Ben-Gurion. Michaels seemed dismissive of Jannetty in particular as the Exchange overwhelmed their challengers, before Michaels pinned Jannetty with a Teardrop Suplex.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Mr Hughes will have more difficult opponents lining up to Beat The Champ, but the first one to chance his arm was the Italian Stallion, who was dispatched in short order with a Torture Rack.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Thrillseekers took on the Harris brothers – now calling themselves the One Percenters – in a fairly brutal match, mostly on the part of the twins, who hit hard, hit often and in this case at least, have no trouble hitting below the belt. Don Harris went low on Chris Jericho, conceding the match, but setting Jericho and Lance Storm up for a heavy beating as the One Percenters left the Thrillseekers lying, before stalking out of the ring.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sting took a few moments to discuss his ongoing rivalry with Rick Rude and the rest of the Dangerous Alliance. Long story short: He’s not a fan! Before their main event contest, the Calgary Connection shot back at Sting and his allies, warning them that the Alliance wasn’t about to give up any of its gold – and only wanted to add to its collection!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

<strong>I've been reading this for a while but haven't gotten the chance to respond. You've captured the old school feel perfectly, and it's a joy to read. I'm really intrigued by the whole Bret Hart situation. Bret vs. Arn is a dream match, hopefully they can work a problem together!</strong></p>

<em>Scotty is going to drop those titles sooner or rather than later (unless you have a regular partner planned for him) I just don't see it happening on free TV.</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>I really like the team of Windham and Rhodes back in the day, no way are they losing to a pair of scrubs like the Harris Boys, catchy new name or not</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>There might be problems within the York Foundation, but Ricky and Robert are on the same page</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Bret Hart </strong>vs. Arn Anderson – non-title</p><p>

<em>This is a tough choice.....my head says a draw, but then it IS non-title, and what better way to build up a challenger than with a victory over the champ....this would have been a hell of a match though I know that much</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>May as well establish the new Champ with a big win over a former TV Champ</em></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Sting</strong> vs. Terence Taylor</p><p>

<em>Tel is a seriously under-rated worker, who with a tad more charisma could have been a huge star, especially in the NWA/WCW.....with that being said, Sting wins, probably with some shenanigans gone wrong thrown in for good measure</em></p>

If you want to replace a Dog-Faced Gremlin, how would you even begin to look? Scott Steiner has spent several weeks looking for a partner to help share the WCW World Tag Team Titles. His search was only further delayed when he was attacked by the Dangerous Alliance last week. So there was considerable anticipation as he finally unveiled his new team-mate: ‘Macho Man’ Randy Savage! Savage has taken arms against the Dangerous Alliance alongside Steiner and his allies, and in allying with Steiner’s gained his first gold in WCW, as the new pairing tore into Rick Rude and Steve Austin with dizzying ferocity. Rude and Austin, by no means a regular team, couldn’t find time to settle as they tried to hold Steiner and Savage in bay, with Steiner in particular being vicious in his treatment of the pair who put his brother out of action. The Dangerous Alliance pair are by no means easy foes, and gave almost as good as they got, but with the match still in the balance it was the appearance of the face-painted man-</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="IeAWhUB.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IeAWhUB.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

</div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

-in the front row of the crowd that threw Rude and Austin, giving Steiner the freedom to deliver a Frankensteiner to Austin to take the win. After the bell, Rude showed more bravado in daring the invader to enter the ring, standing as he did with Austin by his side. The other man, however, just stared a hole in the World champion as we went off the air!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Sting put on a great showing against Terence Taylor, forcing the submission from the Computerised Man of the ‘90s after a fiercely fought contest with a Scorpion Deathlock. Afterwards, he spoke about his upcoming match with Steve Austin which would decide whether Austin would get a World title shot. Sting said he wanted to stop the Dangerous Alliance dominating the World title and was happy to play spoiler... But whatever else Sting might have been about to say was interrupted by the appearance of Bret Hart, the two stars sharing a long, silent look before Hart made his way to the ring.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Hart’s opponent was the Dangerous Alliance’s Enforcer, Arn Anderson. Anderson’s United States title wasn’t on the line, but Hart fought like a tiger nonetheless in a technically outstanding contest. If there were any doubt that Hart can compete with the best of WCW’s competitors, they can be put to rest after this stirring competition – albeit that neither man could land the final blow as the time limit was reached without a winner.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The tournament continued with the pairing of Barry Windham and Dustin Rhodes taking on the twin bikers known as the One Percenters, Ron and Don Harris. The twins were nothing short of brutal in their assault on their opponents, who seemed surprised at first, but entered into the spirit of a stand-up brawl with some vigour. The referee had to admonish both teams on several occasions, but while Windham and Rhodes toed the line, the Harris twins were quick to ignore it, and when one brought a chair into the ring and hammered Rhodes across the back with it, the disqualification was immediate.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

All became clear – or at least somewhat clearer – when a forbidding figure marched down the aisle. Harley Race, with Mr Hughes watching on behind his sunglasses, welcomed the One Percenters with handshakes for them both, before leading the group backstage. Back there Race sought out Cactus Jack – Why? – and offered Jack his services as manager. Cactus seemed surprised by the offer, and admitted that he’d rarely found anyone he worked well with... but he respected Harley Race, and would at least give the idea some thought. And why not – ‘Handsome’ Harley has led Mr Hughes to the Television title, and another successful defence against Bobby Eaton as the veteran made another attempt to Beat The Champ.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Diamond Mine had a rude awakening after their recent good form, felled by the relentless pairing of Mitsuharu Misawa and Toshiaki Kawada. The Japanese duo showed great precision in tackling their foes, and Misawa showed impressive strength in taking Studd down with a Tiger Driver for the win – Misawa and Kawada will now face the Calgary Connection in the quarter-finals!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Ricky Steamboat took a beating a few weeks ago and still tried to take on the World champion; He put forward a great effort, but only exacerbated his injuries. He committed to making his return soon, but couldn’t give a definite date, and was shown some sympathy by Nikita Koloff, who well understands being unable to lay hands on title gold!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The night’s final tag title tournament contest saw full-blooded Hungarians the Fabulous Malenkos take on the all-American Stocks And Shares Express. Neither team entered the tournament in great form, but with Alexandra York’s assistance from the outside Morton and Gibson just edged the contest, with a blind tag from Gibson setting up the Double Dropkick to send the Express through!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

<p>Loan deals rather than alliance deals as WCW has working deals with both. Thinking about it, it would have been a <em>ton</em> more simple to have just used alliance deals, but I wanted some Japanese representation (specifically, I wanted Misawa and Kawada, even if just for a few shows).</p><p> </p><p>

As things stand (and I've just booked the Saturday Night two weeks on from this) I <em>still</em> have workers on loan with AJPW, who run Saturdays and some Sundays the same as us, and so my workers fly out to Japan for the weekend and <em>never get used</em>.</p><p> </p><p>

It's infuriating, but then it's a lesson for me moving forward. The Demon Jr & Felino/Anderson & Austin match has to take place on a 'house show' because their company <em>always</em> runs Saturday and Sunday nights.</p><p> </p><p>

What I should have done is signed a few workers from those companies on short deals and just let them go off on loan so I wasn't trading four or five midcarders for each. Lesson learned - and at least I had the sense to keep the core main event talent out of their hands. Todd Champion and the Patriot I can live without, Rick Rude and Sting not so much.</p>

Ron Simmons isn’t too impressed with Steve Austin, and said so on Sunday night, leading to a match between the two. Austin was accompanied to the ring not just by Madusa, but Paul E. Mr Hughes and the One Percenters successfully defended the Television title against Firebreaker Chip. Does that seem like an unusual piece of phrasing? It’s the truth – and the Patriot and Todd Champion were far from happy about it! While they got the brush-off from Harley Race’s crew, don’t be surprised to see Champion, Patriot and Chip pursuing this matter further!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Shawn Michaels is here in WCW to make an impact – by any means necessary! When faced with the veteran guile of Bobby Eaton, he tried to outpace the older man, but Eaton has faced fast wrestlers before and knows how to deal with that. Mat wrestling? Bobby’s got that covered. Brawling? Neither man’s strong suit – but Eaton can handle himself when he needs to. Michaels seemed stymied, but the referee was understandably distracted by Kimberly Page, and that gave Diamond Dallas Page the chance to slide into the ring and hit Eaton with his ‘Diamond Cutter’ move. The Teardrop Suplex from Michaels was the added punctuation to Eaton’s defeat – and Michaels’ and Page’s gloating!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Stocks And Shares Express have title aspirations – any of the World, US or NWA tag titles would do! Mike Davis and Scott Putski won’t necessarily be the most challenging opponents they face as they seek to bring money, glory and money to the York Foundation, but nonetheless they looked impressive in victory – and we’d wager that having a functioning team she can rely on is probably sheer bliss for Ms York right now!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The Texan duo of Windham and Rhodes will face the Lightning Express in the tournament quarter-final, and Trisa hosted a feisty face-off between the two teams here on Sunday. But on Sunday they had to contend with the brute strength of the Diamond Mine, as Vinnie Vegas and the Diamond Studd sought to overwhelm them through sheer power. Windham and Rhodes are quite happy to exchange heavy hits, though, and the two teams left it all in the ring (and around it) as they waded into one another, eventually leaving the referee no choice but to call for the double disqualification.</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Could the new team of Scott Steiner and Randy Savage become double champions? Facing the experienced British team of William Regal and David Taylor, they had to work hard to overcome their opponents, but emerged triumphant after a Macho Elbow to Taylor. The first round of the NWA tag title tournament is complete! At a live event in Hawaii Blue Demon Jr and Felino faced off against the Dangerous Alliance pairing of Anderson and Austin. It was a storming match, and the teams had the fans on their feet several times as both sides had chances of winning, but in the end Anderson and Austin edged out their masked opponents when Austin hammered Demon Jr with a Stun Gun to book his team’s place in the quarter-finals against the Great Muta and Jyushin Thunder Liger!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

<em>OOC: Not really worth a ‘Ric’ post, so I thought I’d note it here – recent shows have seen a rich seam of new friendships forming – Sting and referee Mark ‘Brian Hildebrand’ Curtis, Owen Hart and Terence Taylor and Lance Storm with Shawn Michaels. I’ve not had many positive results from this feature (Ric isn’t a very likable person, which I know plays into this) but I’ve also managed to forge friendships between Randy Savage and Arn Anderson, and Sting and Ricky Steamboat. It all goes towards a harmonious backstage...</em></p><p> </p><p>

<em>...and then my computer decided to reboot while I was about to start booking Saturday Night, so I lost out on two positive events (Jimmy Jett and Thomas Rich cheering people up) and gained a negative one as Bobby Eaton showed up wasted on painkillers and had to be sent to rehab. At least Eaton was happy about the outcome; It’s cost me a versatile midcarder at a time when that’s something I’m short on. The top and bottom of the WCW roster is remarkable, while the midcard is more or less Ron Simmons, Dustin Rhodes and the Diamond Exchange. The Thrillseekers really are on the verge of a midcard push when I only brought them in to have an experienced undercard team – but none of the Young Pistols, Special Forces and Malenkos have really got over, at least not at the same rate as the rest of the roster.</em></p>
