Valentine is, <em>at best</em>, fourth on the list of WWF's faces. Put it on the Undertaker, Vince!</p><p> </p><p> Still, I'd considered hiring Greg as a developmental trainer. Just as well I didn't, really. I don't think who the titles are on really affects company prestige (minor spoiler, in spite of Valentine-as-champion WWF hit National a month or so after this) but it just seems like an odd move on their part because it hurts Hogan.</p><p> </p><p> But hey, what hurts the WWF only helps WCW, and that's who we care about in this dynasty!</p>

The Television title was on the line in the main event as Owen Hart stepped up to try and Beat The Champ – no doubt in part because he’s Brian Pillman’s tag team partner! Barry Windham had the size and reach on his opponent, but Hart definitely had speed on his side, and used it to keep Windham on the back foot as much as possible. Hart could also take it to the mat when required, and he worked hard on Windham’s leg to further widen the mobility gap. But Windham has been in the ring and trained with some of the best technical wrestlers around, and battled back with a big lariat that seemed to give him the edge... until Brian Pillman hit the ring and blasted him with a steel chair across the back for the disqualification. Put four of WCW’s finest in the ring together and you’re practically guaranteed a great match – but not always a clear finish! Michael Hayes is a wily and experienced competitor, and it didn’t seem to come as much of a surprise to him when the Diamond Exchange ran in on his match with Vinnie Vegas. The two men are surely among the pre-eminent in-ring technicians, and the speed and complexity of counters and counter-counters on display was nothing short of breathtaking. Of course, neither man is afraid to mix things up, with Steamboat as happy in the air as on the mat, and Anderson quite happy to throw fists in lieu of a devastating limblock. The pace and intensity of the match had the crowd on their feet again and again, and clearly this match will be in the running for match of the year. So it’s a shame that it ended on a sour note, with Madusa blindsiding Steamboat with Dangerously’s cellphone as Anderson argued with the referee over a rope break.
