Pro Wrestling Guerrilla: Cornette's Vision

Recommended Posts

November 2016, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla seems to be moving in a very positive direction including the hiring of Pro Wrestling expert Jim Cornette. Cornette is being brought on by owner’s Super Dragon, Excalibur, and Joey Ryan to move the product forward. The idea is to move on up the Pro Wrestling Food Chain and make their way to the National Level. While the exact direction of the company is now unknown we can be positive that Jim Cornette has his own vision for the company.

Super Dragon is giving the full booking and creative rights to Cornette telling him to make the company great. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla has been around since July of 2003 with little progress made towards becoming bigger or better. S.D is hoping Cornette changes that. Cornette has brought in some talent of his own heading into PWG Free Admission (Just Kidding) and has a direction all of his own ready. As we push on into 2017 the first goal is Regional Size!

Attendance: 1,380 People</span></span></em></strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>PWG Free Admission (Just Kidding) starts with familiar face Jim Cornette in the ring. The crowd mixes cheers and boo's as streamers fly through the air covering the ring. Cornette smiles and holds up his hands as the crowd reaction dies down.</p><p> </p><p>

'Ladies and gentleman, you all have heard the news that we are pushing PWG into the future! Pro Wrestling Guerrilla will aim first, take it's shots and ask questions later! My regime starts tonight..."</p><p> </p><p>

The Bullet Club theme hits the sound system and Adam Cole and The Young Bucks are seen strutting down the ramp. Cole slides in the ring grabbing a microphone and the Young Bucks slide in after him smiling ear to ear.</p><p> </p><p>

Cornette stumbles back into a corner and is surrounded by Bullet Club he holds up his hands and begins to talk again.</p><p> </p><p>

'You know, Cole, I do remember you. You have turned into quite the a**. But I do think you deserve a shot at getting a shot at the title. So lets say you beat Timothy Thatcher tonight, and you get to face Zack Sabre Jr. and the true number one contender...well I'll let him tell you'</p><p> </p><p>

'I hope I get to get my hands on you next month Adam,' a voice rings out and suddenly the sound of a mic dropping The Bucks turn around and get clotheslined over the top rope. Cole tries to grab Kyle O'Reilly as the crowd roars! O'Reilly dodges the attempt and O'Reilly attempts to get Cole's arm but the Bucks pull him out of the ring. O'Reilly stands tall next to Jim Cornette in the ring as the show fades.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Angle Rating:</strong> <em>47 (D)</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> <em>The crowd ate the segment up with Kyle O’Reilly being a bright spot in the angle. The crowd really seems to buy him as the next champion. Only thing standing in the way of O’Reilly being successful is how over Cole is even though he is thoroughly a heel. A face turn down the way may do wonders for Cole’s career here in PWG.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Burning Fury (Matt Milan & Matt Riddle) vs Reckless Youth (Fred Yehi & Lio Rush)</strong></p><p><strong>

Hot Opener Tag Team Match</strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a bout that didn't have much heat and terrible wrestling, Reckless Youth defeated Burning Fury in 8:06 when Fred Yehi defeated Matt Riddle by pinfall.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Match Rating:</strong> <em>33 (E+)</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> <em>Reckless Youth really clicked in this match & will be a solid team going forward. Burning Fury just didn’t click at all and their wrestling wasn’t up to par with PWG standards which could make their stint with PWG short. They will have a chance to improve over the next couple months but it was rumored that Jim Cornette was not happy with their preformances & neither was PWG Managment.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>“Mr. Athletic” Jeff Cobb vs Marty Scurll</strong></p><p><strong>

In a decent match, Marty Scurll defeated "Mr. Athletic" Jeff Cobb in 9:18 by pinfall with a Graduation.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Match Rating:</strong> <em>43 (D)</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> <em>Marty Scurll once again showed why he is the number two British wrestler in the world right now. He & Cobb went hold of hold & after some fast paced offense from both men Marty Scurll hit the Graduation out of nowhere for the pin. PWG Managment was said to be very high on both men after this match.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Best Friends vs Unbreakable F’n Machines vs World’s Cutest Tag Team</strong></p><p><strong>

PWG World Tag Team Championships Number One Contenders Match</strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a decent match, Best Friends defeated Unbreakable F'n Machines and World's Cutest Tag Team in 14:42; the order of elimination was World's Cutest Tag Team first, and then Unbreakable F'n Machines.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Match Rating:</strong> <em>62 ©</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> <em>The hottest match of the night saw World’s Cutest Tag Team get eliminated early in the match. Unbreakable F’n Machines tried to strong arm the much smaller Best Friends but it didn’t take much for the Best Friends to slip in a quick roll up right around the 15 minute mark and pull out the win.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Mark Andrews vs Chris Hero vs Kyle O’Reilly vs Sami Callihan</strong></p><p><strong>

Fatal Four Way Match</strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a decent match, Chris Hero defeated Mark Andrews, Kyle O'Reilly and Sami Callihan in 20:24 when Chris Hero defeated Mark Andrews by pinfall with a Hangman's Elbow.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Match Rating: </strong><em>56 (C-)</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> <em>What should have been a solid match all around saw a dampering put on it by Mark Andrews. For whatever reason he had an off night & brought the match down quite a bit. O’Reilly, Callihan, & Hero carried it through though having a top match between the three. O’reilly while not the winner still again showed why he deserves his shot at the PWG Champion, & from what we have heard he will get it next month.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>The Dynasty (Trevor Lee & Andrew Everett) vs The Young Bucks</strong></p><p><strong>

PWG World Tag Team Championships</strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a decent match, The Young Bucks defeated The Dynasty in 9:23 when Nick Jackson defeated Trevor Lee by pinfall with a 450° Splash. The Young Bucks make defence number 14 of their PWG World Tag Team titles. </p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Match Rating:</strong> <em>49 (D+)</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> <em>Both teams brought the noise and had a high flying affair. The crowd was hype throughout but lots of botches brought the match down. The biggest of which saw Trevor Lee fall from the top rope to the outside while attempting to hit his finisher on Nick Jackson. This ate up a solid two minutes of the match for doctors to check on Lee. Lee finished the match taking the fall.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Adam Cole vs Timothy Thatcher</strong></p><p><strong>

PWG World Heavyweight Championship Number One Contenders Match</strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a bout that had good heat and decent wrestling, Adam Cole defeated Timothy Thatcher in 14:36 by pinfall with a Flying Cross Body.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Match Rating:</strong> <em>39 (D-)</em></p><p>

<strong>Review: </strong><em>Cole and Thatcher didn’t click in this match & it made for some akward moments. What should have been a highlight for Thatcher on his way out of the company saw to one of the worst matches on the show. Thatcher exits after a good career in PWG but Jim Cornette just doesn’t seem to have anything for him and he has bigger bookings in other places. So Cole gets to be a part of the World Title match next month.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Zack Sabre Jr. © vs Ricochet</strong></p><p><strong>

PWG World Heavyweight Championship Match</strong></p><p> </p><p>

In a good match, Zack Sabre Jr. defeated Ricochet in 20:25 by submission with a Senior Stretch. Zack Sabre Jr. makes defence number 11 of his PWG World Heavyweight title.</p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:right;"><p><strong>Match Rating:</strong> <em>60 ©</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> <em>This match definitely deserved top honors as it was the best match of the night. Sabre Jr. stayed on top & Ricochet shook his hand after the match. Ricochet is said to be taking some time off from PWG as he will be touring with NJPW for the foreseeable future and may have been offered a full time exclusive contract with the Japanese company recently. Ricochet will be missed & Sabre will continue to carry PWG on his back.</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Overall Show Rating:</strong> <em>58 (C-)</em></p><p>

<strong>Review:</strong> The show all together was good, with some matches letting down. We saw the last matches for awhile in the company of Ricochet and Thatcher. With everything going on in this show we start to see the ideas of Jim Cornette form as he has booked himself as an authority figure as well as being in the commentary booth. The owners seem to be pleased with the overall performance of the show.</p>

PWG Mystery Vortex 2016 Card

Pro Wrestling Guerrilla

Mystery Vortex 2016

CA Bakersfield Dome

Attendance:TBA

Reckless Youth vs World’s Cutest Tag Team

Hot Opener Tag Team Match

Last month PWG newcomers Reckless Youth pulled out a big win in their debut. The World’s Cutest Tag Team are their new targets. Recent news has shown some backstage heat between Ryan, LeRae, Rush and Yehi. The tension is hot as they stay away from each other and LeRae & Ryan seem to think that Rush & Yehi don’t deserve all of their hype. Will the young guns shut up the Cutest Tag Team in the World or will there be a Cuteness overload.

Burning Fury vs Unbreakable F’n Machines

Tag Team Match

Burning Fury had a less than stellar debut last month & will now get the pleasure of taking on the Unbreakable F’n Machines. Brian Cage has become a star in AAA & all over Mexico while Michael Elgin has taken over NJPW and all over Japan. Two big stars take on what could be stars in the making, and if Burning Fury want to continue their tenure in PWG they need a good showing here to do it.

The Young Bucks © vs Best Friends

PWG World Tag Team Championship Match

Best Friends, Chuck Taylor and Trent?, earned their Tag Team title shots at last months event. They look to capitalize as this is their last shot at the titles for awhile. A positive showing last month saw them earn a shot at the titles but lose their spots in the DDT4 tournament next month. The Young Bucks have tons of momentum as they haven’t lost a match in PWG in almost two years. The Jackson brothers dominate all over the world while Taylor & Trent haven’t gotten a solid footing recently. Will the Best Friends be able to win the titles or will The Young Bucks continue their run as Tag Team Champions?

“Mr. Athletic” Jeff Cobb vs Marty Scurll vs Sami Callihan vs Andrew Everett

Fatal Four Way ??? Championship Match

Owner Jim Cornette has announced that this special match will be for a new PWG championship made to highlight the midcard. “Mr. Athletic” Jeff Cobb has been quite impressive since making a step into the big independents in America, including quite a few title shots in those smaller companies. Marty Scurll has momentum going into this match with the title of second best English wrestler he also has a chip on his shoulder. Sami Callihan’s storm through PWG is at a stand still so Cornette gives him a shot to prove himself here. Andrew Everett was on the losing side of a tag team title match last month, & here gets another shot at wrapping a title around his waist.

Chris Hero vs Trevor Lee

Singles Match Semi-Main Event

Jim Cornette wants to see what these two heavy hitters go at it & has made it happen. Hero is one of the top stars in the company at this moment and with rumors of WWE Contract offers looming he looks to make a statement on his own behalf in this match. Trevor Lee was on the losing side of a PWG World Tag Team championship match last month but is still seen as one of the biggest hitters in the young movement through the indies. Lee & Hero are sure to throw big bombs in this match & electrify the crowd.

Adam Cole vs Kyle O’Reilly vs Zack Sabre Jr. ©

PWG World Heavyweight Championship Triple Threat Match

The World Heavyweight Championship is on the line in this star studded triple threat match. Adam Cole earned his shot in this match by defeating Timothy Thatcher last month & is one of the hottest acts in PWG right now, but his long time rival & old friend Kyle O’Reilly is standing in one of the corners too. O’Reilly wants the PWG championship pretty bad. The last man in the match is the reigning, defending PWG World Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. who looks to retain once again & extend his hold on the title. Will O’Reilly or Cole be able to snatch the title away, or will Sabre continue his reign on top of PWG.
