EWA Writing On The Wall Pre-Cap

August 31st, 2019.

Another month trickled by and the EWA's steady momentum gain was happening. Dave Metzler called Lord of the Ring, the best show you haven't seen and recommended three matches from it as "3.5/4 star matches". We are definitely happy about that. With September just around the corner we are set for two more shows starting next weekend, September 7th with Writing On The Wall. Before we dive into that though, let's take a look at some of the notes from Lord of the Ring.

Post-Show Notes: Scott Maverick impressed in a pre-show Fight for Your Right Match-Up. The match-up also included Dickie Divers, James Castle and Sammy Smooth. Smooth was easily the weakest link and will not be invited to the next Fight for Your Right showcase. Beyond that, there is some potential in the other three, Maverick in particular impressed and will certainly hear his name come-up in the next EWA Board Meeting. The plan moving forward is for the next few shows to all feature up and coming talent in a series of match-ups to determine who will receive the next televised Fight For Your Right contract match. On the other hand, once again some fans wanted more women… good thing we have a surprise for them next month…

World of Wrestling

In other news, across the pond in the USA, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla held their annual Battle For Los Angeles. Michael Elgin won it last year, but obviously was busy winning our tournament this year on the same day. Big Mike to a big leap of faith skipping out on the BOLA, and the PWG officials were reportedly not thrilled when we announced we'd be running a show on the same day. So BOLA 2019 went "old-school" as Paul London defeated Matt Sydal for the BOLA title… talk about a flashback.

In other news TNA ran their Hardcore Justice PPV this weekend. Adam Ohriner defended his TNA World Championship against a returning Ethan Carter III. EC3 had spent the last 3 years with the WWE and was a surprise return to TNA this month. The Bound For Glory series continues for TNA with Robert Roode leading outright with a 9-0 record. Many are projecting a Roode vs. Ohriner clash at Bound for Glory. Speaking of TNA, the TNA Hall of Fame is rumored to be adding James Storm to it this year. Storm wrapped up an 17-year stint with TNA this last month and while he's still available for work, his career is winding down. Last but not least, Scott Steiner made a surprise return to wrestling and appeared at TNA's PPV, defeating Brian Cage. It was a shocking return, and in many ways Steiner performed well. We had some interest in Steiner if we had opted to do a legends tournament... Time will tell, but I'm not sure if Scotty would have interest.

Noam Dar Finds His Partner

Write it down, Noam Dar made a friend in the EWA. Andrew Everett has accepted Dar's offer to tag with him against Lio Rush and "Limitless" Mark Andrews at EWA Writing On The Wall. This should be a scintillating Altitude Tag Match-Up.

"Unbreakable" Resolve

"Big Mike" may have won the Lord of the Ring tournament, but during the Main Event lumberjack match he was clocked across the skull by Pete Dunne with a set of brass knuckles. Dunno may have bit off more than he can chew as Elgin has challenged Dunne to a match at Writing On The Wall.

Main Event Announced

Lastly, we are able to confirm the Main Event for Writing On The Wall. After distracted and then assaulting Jimmy Havoc during the Lord of the Ring, it seems that the Sumerian Death Squad and "The Villain" Marty Scurll may be working together. Testing this theory, Regal has booked them in a six-man tag against "The Anti-Hero" Jimmy Havoc and his allies, "The New Age" Chris Renfrew and BT Gunn. This match-up should rock the show and there will certainly be no love loss between these two teams.

Later this week we will announce the full card for the show, but for now, stay tuned.

<p>EWA Asylum Mini-Preview</p><p> </p><p> With September coming to a close, the EWA is proud to present its final show of the month, ASYLUM.</p><p> </p><p> We will start with the biggest news of the week as EWA European Champion, <strong>Marty Scurll </strong>has laid out an offer to nemesis <strong>Jimmy Havoc</strong> following Havoc and New Age’s win against Scurll and the Sumerian Death Squad. He wants to bury Havoc’s chances once and for all… and in order to do that, with no funny business… wants to introduce us to the <strong>Steel Asylum</strong>. The first Steel Cage to be utilized in the EWA. He’ll give Havoc a title shot, in the Asylum…but if Havoc loses, he can never challenge for the title again during the reign of the Villain. Needless to say, we expect the Anti-Hero to accept this challenge.</p><p> </p><p> Meanwhile in other news, fresh off the heels of pinning one half of the Tag Team champions, the <strong>New Age</strong> will get an opportunity to earn a title shot. William Regal has announced a four-team match-up for Asylum with the winners earning a shot. The teams, <strong>The London Riots, The Doppelgangsters, The Travelers and The New Age</strong> will take part in this free-for-all.</p><p> </p><p> Also on the card: On the heels of Andrew Everett superkicking then partner Noam Dar to the moon, the Champagne Supernova himself will be forced into a three-way dance for the Altitude Title. It’ll be <strong>Andrew Everett, Noam Dar and Mark Andrews</strong> in the triple threat.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Robbie Dynamite</strong>’s four match losing streak in the EWA is on the line as he challenges <strong>James Mason</strong> to a rematch of their EWA Evolved match-up. Dynamite has spent the last month and a half training non-stop for his rematch and promises that tonight, is the night of DYNAMITE.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Iestyn Rees</strong> came to the aid of <strong>Rockstar Spud</strong> after Martin Kirby sent the Henchmen after Spud. Rees challenged and subsequently defeated The Apprentice Kirby later that night. Now the odd-couple of Spud and Rees will get a chance at the <strong>Henchmen</strong>.</p><p> </p><p> Also announced former English Premier League soccer star, <strong>Stuart Tomlinson</strong> makes a heroic return from America as he’ll debut with the EWA in a Fight For Your Right contract match-up with veteran German, <strong>Chris Raaber</strong>. Raaber’s been on the EWA radar and has appeared in both the original Fight For Your Right Battle Royal and in a tag-team with Joe Hendry. He’s apparently impressed EWA Officials enough to have earned this shot. As for Tomlinson, he’s returning from the USA where he joined the WWE in 2015 and spent four years in NXT before earning a promotion to the main roster in July of 2019. Ultimately, after winning only one match in his entire time in the WWE, Tomlinson decided it would be best for him to take his talents back to England and the EWA is excited to see what he’s got. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Preliminary Card:</strong></p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43168" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> Fight For Your Right: Stuart Tomlinson vs. Chris Raaber</p><p> Tag Action: Iestyn Rees and Rockstar Spud vs. The Henchmen</p><p> #1 Contender Tag Team Turmoil: Doppelgangsters vs. New Age vs. Travelers vs. London Riots</p><p> Altitude Title: "Champagne Supernova" Noam Dar © vs. "Limitless" Mark Andrews vs. Andrew Everett</p><p> Steel Asylum For The EWA European Title, If Havoc Loses, No More Shots While The Villain Is Champion: "The Villain" Marty Scurll © vs. "The Anti-Hero" Jimmy Havoc</p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Plus More To Be Announced!</p>

<p>Getting to Know: Iestyn Rees</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/prowrestling/images/e/ef/Iestyn_Rees_-_BkX3SL4IQAAT2m1.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20150413150220</span><p> </p><p>

Physically imposing, The Welshmen Iestyn Rees represents a bit of a throwback. Trained in the physical British Style Rees bruised his way to tag title reigns with Joel Redman and Mark Haskins in 2008 as part of a team known as The Thrillers. Rees ultimately began flying solo and eventually reached his personal pinnacle in 2016 when he captured the IPW: UK World Title. The six and a half years in between those title runs were the epitome of bad luck for Rees. Injured frequently from 2010-2015 Rees even considered hanging the boots up as he watched his friends leave the UK for the bright lights of Japan and the USA. But ultimately Rees persisted. Hoping to be the next Welsh big man to make a successful leap to the USA, Rees wants to establish himself as a force here in the EWA.</p><p> </p><p>

That said, a sailboat without a rudder is relatively useless and Rees has been forced to make his own opportunities thus far. Earlier this month Rees saved Rockstar Spud from a heinous beatdown at the hands of The Henchmen. Later that night he got his hands on Martin Kirby and took advantage of Kirby's failed ploy to win the match. Now he and Spud have their eyes on The Henchmen and ultimately both men will definitely be seeking bigger and better things... Watch out.</p></div><p></p><p></p>

The Asylum is a standard 15 foot cage but the top of the cage is slanted slightly with various weapons hanging from the top. The wrestlers can choose to climb the cage and retrieve the weapons or just leave them there. Escaping the cage is in concept possible, but not likely, nor a way to win the match. To prevent anyone from entering the ring, there are no doors and the top of the cage has a thin layer of razor wire to prevent anyone from climbing the outside. The New Age, fresh off a huge main event victory, look to take the next step here. Meanwhile the Doppelgangsters look for revenge. The London Riots looking to build off their upset and… well… The Travelers were in the match too… So when I tell you it was T-Bone pinned to end the match that comes as no surprise… But when I tell you the finish consisted off James Davis hitting a huge Lariat on T-Bone, but following through to much and getting tagged out by Kjell Cimex who then leveled Davis and tagged in Ante Cimex who flew from the top and hit T-Bone with the Top Rope Leg Drop… Only to pop-up and back into the outstretched hand of BT Gunn, who hopped in, immediately tagged in Chris Renfrew and then flew across the ring himself taking out Kjell… This allowed Chris Renfrew to pick-up the win. </p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Winners and NEW #1 Contenders: The New Age</span></span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Tommy%20End_zps3xjsu6p9.jpg</span><span>http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Michael%20Dante_zpsmdpizmrg.jpg</span></p><p> Post-Match the <strong>Sumerian Death Squad</strong> come out and welcome <strong>The New Age</strong> to hell… They laugh as the lights go off and the Steel Asylum is illuminated… The SDS suddenly is seen in the ring and blast both members of the New Age with the tag belts.</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43168" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>EWA Altitude Title</strong></p><p> <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Noam Dar © W/ Kay Lee Ray vs. Andrew Everett vs. Mark Andrews w/ Nixon Newell</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#0000FF;"> </span></strong></p><p> <span>http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Noam%20Dar_zps0ifsvg9k.jpg</span>VS<span>http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Mark%20Andrews_zpszsoshe9o.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Recap: Great little match-up here from the Altitude Division. Andrew Everett went for the moneyshot but missed the High Risk Shooting Star, and Mark Andrews was attempting to separate the women who were now cat-fighting… This allowed Noam Dar to launch himself over the top onto Andrews (and with no regard for the ladies) and eventually lock-in the Champagne Super Kneebar for the win and the defense.</p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Winner and STILLLLLLL: Noam Dar</span></span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="43168" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>Pre-Match we recap the feud between Havoc and Scurll</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Steel Asylum for the EWA European Title</strong></p><p> <em>If Havoc loses he cannot challenge for the EWA European Title while Scurll reigns</em></p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="color:#0000FF;">“The Villain” Marty Scurll vs. “The Anti-Hero” Jimmy Havoc</span></span></strong></p><p> <span>http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Marty%20Scurll_zps2r3ssxx7.jpg</span>VS<span>http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Jimmy%20Havoc_zpsvg28i5ib.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Recap: This match was exactly what we expected, bloody, brutal and phenomenal. Both men went at it for over 30 minutes to the pure delight of the fans. Both Havoc and Scurll scaled the cage and detached weapons which left the ring strewn with chairs and an umbrella. The hardcore nature of the match did lead to Jimmy Havoc sustaining a Depressed Zygomatic Fracture after taking a hard chairshot to the face. In some ways Scurll botched a move and did take some heat for it. The finish to this match saw Havoc's face swelling from the chairshot attempting to even the score and swinging wildly, Scurll countered it by opening the closed umbrella and then sneaking a big kick to the knee... With Havoc on one-knee Scurll hit a modified face buster onto a chair and covered Havoc for the win. Havoc will miss some time, but that actually fits the story well.</p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="color:#0000FF;">Winner and STILLLLLL: Marty Scurll</span></span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Michael%20Elgin_zpsxq3yebgo.jpg</span></p><p> In the ring <strong>Jimmy Havoc</strong> looks distraught and exhausted. Into The Void Preview

Quick Preview:

Dave Mastiff vs. Iestyn Rees

Kay Lee Ray and Noam Dar vs. Nixon Newell and Mark Andrews

Joel Redman vs. Andrew Everett

Pete Dunne vs. James Scott

Rampage Brown vs. Beast

Rockstar Spud vs. Martin Kirby

Earlier this summer, Dave Mastiff and Iestyn Rees teamed together and won a match-up. While never formal partners, Dave Mastiff brutally attacked Iestyn Rees during Rees' tag match with Rockstar Spud. After the match Rees insisted he gets a shot at Dave Mastiff. This will be that shot.

Joel Redman hasn't proved much in the EWA, Andrew Everett meanwhile has been on a solid role but hasn't fully established himself as the premier athlete. In this match both men look to take a step in the right direction.

Rampage Brown has been teaming with T-Bone from the launch of the business, in that same span The Travelers have been feuding with the Doppelgangsters, in this match-up Rampage Brown seeks redemption in a match-up with Beast.

Under the mentorship of William Regal, Pete Dunne has taken strides toward become a dude in the EWA. He'll be in action tonight against James Scott. Can Scott score an upset or will Dunne continue to roll.

The EWA Altitude Champion, Noam Dar and his manager Kay Lee Ray have been the definition of arrogance during his title reign. Last month Dar was pushed to the limit by "Limitless" Mark Andrews. Ultimately Andrews lost his focus when his ally Nixon Newell was involved in an altercation with Kay Lee Ray. Now, in what will be the first mixed gender tag match in EWA history, Newell and Andrews will team up to face Ray and Dar.

Lastly, Martin Kirby's constant bullying of Rockstar Spud comes to a head as Spud gets his shot at Kirby. Martin Kirby, formally the Apprentice for Nigel McGuinness and William Regal, has thus far mainly been interested in tormenting Spud. Spud meanwhile has been protesting and complaining about Kirby's treatment. Now they'll go one on one for pride and glory.

Plus, will Michael Elgin cash-in and challenge for the EWA European title? Marty Scurll will be in the house and will certainly address what he is calling, "The Elephant In The Room"

<p>Getting To Know: The Champagne Supernova, Noam Dar</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://www.wwe.com/f/styles/gallery_img_s/public/all/2016/09/Noam_Dar_stat--ef156befe08d026921e5235dade93d43.png</span><p> </p><p>

The EWA Altitude Champion, the ever cocky, Champagne Supernova, Noam Dar has been a dominant force in the EWA thus far. The merely 26 year old Dar staked his claim to Kay Lee Ray early and has used her to his advantage as both his human shield and mouth piece. Noam Dar is sky-rocketing to success so far with solid performance with everyone he has faced including TNA Superstar Lio Rush. Recently he defended the Altitude title by taking advantage of Mark Andrews valet, Nixon Newell.</p><p> </p><p>

Israeli born, and raised in Scotland, Dar refers to himself as the Champagne Supernova because he claims that the he has already shattered the glass ceiling and is heading into the Supernova. </p><p> </p><p>

At Into The Void Noam Dar and Kay Lee Ray will team up to take on Newell and Andrews in the first Inter-gender match in the EWA.</p></div><p></p><p></p>

EWA Into The Void

EWA Into The Void

The show opens with Marty Scurll addressing “The Elephant In The Room” He wants an answer tonight! "The Lord of The Ring" Michael Elgin appears and cuts a similarly scathing promo towards the villain, calling him a pint sized napoleon…He finishes with a simple statement… TONIGHT… IS….NOT THE NIGHT… The mind games continue.

Andrew Everett vs. Joel Redman

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Andrew%20Everett_zpsehbg09jh.jpgVShttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Oliver%20Grey_zpsyf58i31s.jpg

Recap: This match is the set-up to something larger. Andrew Everett picked up the relatively smooth win executing a beautiful 450 splash for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Andrew Everett

Post-Match Andrew Everett calls out, anyone from anywhere in the world. He continues to promise that he is better than ANYONE in EUROPE.

Backstage: Martin Kirby and Nigel McGuinness are seen, Nigel tells Kirby that tonight it is only fair that he faces Rockstar Spud! Kirby seems unhappy, but McGuinness reassures him…we have what’s best for us in mind.

Pete Dunne vs. James Scott

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Pete%20Dunne_zpsoqg9iwph.jpgVShttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Darkside_zpsaq0xyups.jpg

Recap: Pretty dominating showing by Pete Dunne here. He takes out Scott cleanly and wins with the Closed Fist. Dunne showed flashes of dismantling his opponent methodically here. The fans are beginning to get intrigued by him.

Winner: Pete Dunne

Post-Match James Mason comes down. Wants to face Dunne and teach him a thing or two about respect… Dunne scoffs at him and shoves him out of the way as he heads up the ramp.

Stuart Tomlinson vs. Terry Frazier

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Stuart%20Tomlinson_zps52xnvni4.jpgVShttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Terry%20Frazier_zps8f6dyyoi.jpg

Recap: Honestly, this match was added last minute. We wanted to build Tomlinson up some more and with Sha Samuels firing, Terry Frazier is a rudderless ship. Tomlinson won this one with some athletic moves and began turning the crowd in his favor. He used a basic submission for the victory which was a bit boring…

Winner: Stuart Tomlinson

Backstage, "Limitless" Mark Andrews is worried that Nixon Newell won’t be able to handle herself in the ring and might get hurt. She assures him that she can handle herself and will help the team to victory tonight…

Heading down the hall we see Rampage Brown talking to T-Bone. He tells T-Bone that he doesn’t want to travel with him anymore… Wants T-Bone to go off on his own and wants this to be a mutual parting… Tonight he wants to face Beast alone… T-Bone looks a touch upset but understands. Ask Rampage for one more shot at making this work. Rampage agrees, but says let's save it for next show.

Beast vs. Rampage Brown

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Beast_zpsh2vpeyot.jpgVShttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Rampage%20Brown_zpsf41jmkoy.jpg

Recap: In a rematch from June, Rampage Brown defeated Beast with a Brainbuster Suplex. Neither worker was sharp in this one, but the match had a solid purpose that will continue to develop over time.

Winner: Rampage Brown

Post-Match: The Doppelgangsters and Beast attack Rampage Brown and no one is coming to save him. Have we seen the end of the Travelers? T-Bone seems to have no interest in helping in partner...

Backstage Chris Renfrew speaks for his team, The New Age, and says they have no fears of the Sumerian Death Squad. Renfrew wants to prove that by taking out Dante, one on one in the ring in two weeks.

Noam Dar and Kay Lee Ray vs. Nixon Newell and Mark Andrews

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Noam%20Dar_zps0ifsvg9k.jpghttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Kay%20Lee%20Ray_zps5wftudzr.jpgVShttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Nixon%20Newell_zpsagp8nn7w.jpghttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Mark%20Andrews_zpszsoshe9o.jpg

Recap: The rivalry for the Altitude Title continues and in this one it was beginning to look like Andrews would get the upper-hand, but Dar had one dastardly trick up his sleeve that sealed the win for his team. For the majority of the match the men faced eachother and the women eachother. In the end though we saw Mark Andrews out, but Nixon Newell manage to get herself into the match…expecting Dar to tag out Noam began to walk to the corner only to superkick Newell and then lock the Champagne Super Kneebar on her for the submission victory. The fans weren’t thrilled with our foray into women’s wrestling. Kay Lee Ray can really wrestle and we wanted her to have a small in-ring part.

Winners: Noam Dar and Kay Lee Ray

On his way out of the building, Grado wishes Spud luck…

Spud vs. Martin Kirby

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Rockstar%20Spud_zpsuzstwxx0.jpgVShttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Martin%20Kirby_zpstu4todqo.jpg

Recap: Who coulda guessed, The Henchmen got involved and had the match get tossed. After the bell the Henchmen were stalking Spud when he suddenly got a hold of Kirby, nailed a 5 Stone Spud Splash and ran… Chaos ensued and Spud challenged them to a 6-man tag in two weeks. He’ll need to find two partners though, maybe Grado will be one!

Winner by DQ: Rockstar Spud

We get a video package showing Iestyn Rees and Dave Mastiff’s mutual respect from the first few months of the EWA followed by Mastiff blindsiding Rees two weeks ago and leading into the Main Event tonight.

Dave Mastiff vs. Iestyn Rees

http://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Dave%20Mastiff_zpsjjfihdhe.jpgVShttp://i568.photobucket.com/albums/ss129/texasrangers13/Iestyn%20Rees_zpsnzo02vyy.jpg

Recap: This main event was a slight let-down from the previous match. Mastiff won with a Lariat and made himself look better than usual in the process. The show went off the air with little fan fair... This is the beginning of the two-show build-up to another mega-show known as YOUR TIME HAS COME

Winner: Dave Mastiff
