NPCW: National Pride Championship Wrestling

Peter Michaels sits in a waiting room second guessing every decision he has made in the last two days. It all started with a random phone call from a network producer from National Pride TV. The powers to be at the national television station has decided to get into the wrestling business. Why would someone make such an idiotic mistake? Cheap television of course. The board of trustees from National Pride TV are looking to reformat their television product and gear it more towards the cutting edge alternative 18-35 demographic. During one of their brain storming sessions it was brought up to start a wrestling television show.

National Pride TV reached out to a few of the current companies like Coast Zone Championship Wrestling and Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling but neither were willing to compromise their product to get in line with what National Pride TV is looking for. Instead they have decided to create their own wrestling promotion to run a weekly show.

One major problem with that is the fact none of them know anything about wrestling or let alone running a wrestling promotion. Instead of trying to do something by themselves they have decided to hire an experienced wrestling person to run the company for them. They will put up the money and supply the television show. Whoever they choose will have full control. The big question is who is the right fit? They want someone with name value, the brains to pull it off, and someone willing to do what is needed.

Back to the waiting room we see Peter Michaels sitting in the waiting room. In walks Phil Vibert. Peter and Phil exchange pleasantries even know they really are not friends but have known each other for years. Looks like Peter wasn’t the only one offered to come in and pitch the network executives. Suddenly the door swings open and out walks Herb Stately. His face is red and he looks very angry as he speed walks right past the others. A lady walks out from the room and points to Peter.

Peter Michaels: What was that all about?

Lady: They weren’t a fan of his ideas

Peter Michaels: They were that bad?

Lady: No they were just the same thing that is on TV today. It was SWF lite or USPW lite. That’s not what they want.

And with that Peter’s face went ghostly white. That was exactly what Peter was going to pitch. He figured these guys would just want a “if it’s not broke don’t fix it” philosophy. He could show them how SWF has worked for years and convince them he could recreate it. Now what does he say? He better think quick as he is walking into the room shaking hands with the three network executives sitting in the room.

Network Exec 1: Nice to meet you Peter

Peter Michaels: Like wise

Network Exec 2: Let’s cut to the chase here Peter. As you can probably tell we have had multiple people come through here today

Network Exec 3: 7 to be exact

Peter Michaels: 7?

Network Exec 1: Yes you are 8

Network Exec 2: And every single one of them has brought for the same garbage as the one before them. We are looking to rebrand National Pride TV as cutting edge.

Network Exec 3: Something alternative

Network Exec 1: Yes something out of the box. So what do you have for us?

Peter Michaels: So let me guess what all my competition has said. Everyone wanted to recreated the big companies like Supreme Wrestling and United States Pro Wrestling? Everyone wanted to bring in old timers that were in these companies before and bring some sort of name value.

Network Exec 2: That’s about right

Peter Michaels: But you want something completely different then what the big players like Supreme Wrestling offers?

Network Exec 1: Yes that is what we said.

Peter Michaels: Well gentlemen what are two of the biggest weaknesses that a company like SWF has today? Two large gaps that could and should be filled.

All the network executives look at each other and shrug their shoulders.

Peter Michaels: Let’s start with Women’s wrestling. From the looks on your face I can tell that doesn’t entice you like I was hoping. Women’s wrestling is now a hot bed in the United States. Today’s women are just as athletic and can do just as much as the men ever have. Look at the UFC and how their women are as big of draws as the men anymore. I am here to tell you women’s wrestling can draw big ratings. All the girls will tune in because these women on TV are role models. And the men? They will tune in because these women are hot. This is TV and sex always sells.

The network executives are shaking their head in agreement when one cuts off Peter.

Network Exec 1: Peter it is our understanding that having a Women’s only promotion is nothing new. In our research we found a couple in the United States alone. I don’t think this is a revolutionary idea.

Peter Michaels: I agree with you. I am not saying do 100% women’s promotion. Just make it one of the key features of the promotion. One of the marquee acts. The other marquee? Tag team wrestling!

The network execs now have a puzzled look on their faces

Peter Michaels: Tag team wrestling is a lost art. Once upon a time tag team wrestling was right up there in the main events. I want to bring that back. I want a promotion to focus on Women’s wrestling and Tag Team wrestling…..exclusively.

Network Exec 3: Exclusively?

Peter Michaels: Yes you heard me right. Picture a weekly television show where the men only compete in tag team wrestling and the women are the focus of single competition. There is nothing remotely like it on TV today.

Network Exec 1: You really think this would work?

Peter Michaels: I know it would work. All I need is a slot on TV and some money to pay the roster. We WILL make it work.

The network executives all look at each other and shake their head in agreement.

Network Exec 2: Peter this is exactly the out of the box thinking we were looking for. I think I speak for the others and say you are hired!

Peter Michaels: Really?

Network Exec 1: Yep. You are the new CEO of National Pride Championship Wrestling.

Peter Michaels: NPCW huh?

Network Exec 3: Is that a problem?

Peter Michaels: Not at all. When do I start

Network Exec 1: You already did. You have 1 month to get a roster together before we have your first TV taping. You better get busy.

With that Peter Michaels shakes their hands. Does he really think this will work? Who knows? One thing is for sure it will definitely be a challenge. If this works it will get his name out of the dumpster it has been in since his embarrassing SWF firing. With that…he has work to do.

In the opening match of the night we had the 6 man ladies match. It featured some descent wrestling but pretty much non-existent heat for the ladies as the crowd was not familiar with any of them yet. The team of Celeste, Blanca and Mystery Pink were victories when Mystery Pink was able to pin Queen Tasia with a flying body press at the 7:20 mark. </p><p> </p><p>

Some take away items were that Fuyuko Higa was head and shoulders above everyone else. The newcomer Queen Tasia was the weak link and struggling to keep up with everyone else.</p><p> </p><p>

In the second pre-show match of the night which featured sub-par wrestling and little heat, Black Top Soldiers defeated the Party Animals in 9:58 when Weezy Belle pinned Jules Night with a High & Low. It was said that Weezy Belle carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.</p><p> </p><p>

The main show was kicked off by Peter Michaels and Shane Sneer welcoming us to the first ever show for NPCW. They did a run down of the upcoming show and tried to get the crowd more into it.</p><p> </p><p>

The opening match of the main show feature a poor match. The Sharpshooters defeated The Future in 13:24 when Bryan Holmes defeated Devon James by pinfall with a Final impact. It was clear that Bryan Holmes carried the match in terms of in-ring performance.</p><p> </p><p>

In the first ever women’s match for NPCW Jaime Quine defeated Nadia Snow in what most are calling a decent match. Jaime won in 13:46 by pinfall with a KO kick. Unfortunately during this match Nadia Snow came away injured. It appears to be some sort of rib injury so we will have to find out more tomorrow.</p><p> </p><p>

Overall it was an interesting first show. All the characters were able to get on the card at some point to try and get their characters introduced to the audience. It will be an interesting next few weeks as Peter Michaels and crew try to develop these characters for the audience. Next week kicks off the start of a new era as the Friday Night Fights debuts on National Pride TV. This is the weekly flagship show that and the reason the promotion was created.</p><p> </p><p>
