<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="font-size:14px;">March 2017</span></span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="font-size:14px;">

</span></span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:10px;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">March 5, 2017</span></span></strong> at WWE Fastlane Goldberg won the WWE Universal Title from Kevin Owens in short fashion. This championship win was met with backlash from the hardcore fans of WWE who referred to Goldberg as a "part-timer". Charlotte also had lost her match against Bayley that night who was being booked a lot stronger than her.</p><p> </p><p>

Meanwhile Ric Flair had just put the finishing touches on the contract he had worked nearly a year on with Vince McMahon. The contract saw Flair becoming the new owner of the WCW Brand, Titles, Merchandising, and all former broadcasts. This was meant to produce a secondary show to "compete" against WWE, but secretly still feed talent into their system and not be as good of a program. Vince McMahon wanted to create the atmosphere of the Monday Night Wars again as the WWE product was noticeably becoming stale. Ric Flair agreed to this, but with all the copyrights and ownership under his belt he was prepared to have an ace up his sleeve.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The Chicago Screwjob</span></strong></p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">March 6, 2017</span></strong> prior to the taping of Monday Night RAW Goldberg informed Vince McMahon that he had contacted Ric Flair and that he had signed an exclusive deal with WCW which would override his Pay Per Appearance deal with WWE. McMahon who was outraged attempted to contact Ric Flair to no avail. When confronted by Triple H Charlotte also confirmed that she was under WCW contract effective immediately and did not show up to the event. Goldberg was then told that he was going to loose the title to Kevin Owens in a simple match that evening which he agreed to do. </p><p> </p><p>

The main event was going as planned up until about 3 minutes into the match when Owens began to no-sell Goldberg's moves. Confused Goldberg continued the match and began to get frustrated. After a minute of this Goldberg just stood in the ring staring Owens down. At that moment 3 other WWE superstars entered the ring. Triple H, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, and Owens then began to beat down Goldberg, but this was different. The superstars were actually hitting Goldberg and a shoot fight broke out. After a few moments of carnage Goldberg was legitimately knocked out as Owens pinned him. No DQ occurred even though there was outside interference. When a dazed Goldberg awoke after a minute or 2 he announced to the crowd that WWE was a joke and that he was moving on to a new company. He stormed off screen utterly destroying the set as he went.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">The New Era of WCW and The Monday Night Wars Has Been Reborn</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

After a few weeks the wrestling community was bewildered and speculation began to run rampant online as to where Goldberg was going and if the Chicago Screwjob was a shoot or just another part of kayfabe antics. The community got their answer when a short 15 second commercial was aired on MTV with a simple animation of the Monday Night Nitro logo. A week later a full length commercial aired on the station showing Goldberg, Ric Flair, Sting, and Hollywood Hulk Hogan. Goldberg stated a new era was coming to professional wrestling on April 3, 2017 and that he was ready for revenge. The hype over this exploded across the wrestling community as the long awaited return of WCW was upon the world.</p>

<p>Roster Breakdown</p><p> </p><p> A fresh start was underway for the company as many looked forward to the return of WCW. Very little was known about the initial roster of the promotion which was surprisingly odd in this day and age of technology and social media. The only real members that the public was aware of was Goldberg, Charlotte, Ric Flair, Sting, Hollywood Hogan, and Eric Bischoff. Everything else was up for discussion. Many were even saying that the Undertaker was jumping ship on the internet forums, but we all know how much reliability are in internet wrestling forums these days.</p><p> </p><p> The product of the company is bringing Attitude Era Entertainment back to the wrestling industry with an aim on popular risqué storylines and hardcore action all infused into a modern version of the late 1990s early 2000s era. Much has changed in the industry since then with the WWE going for a more PG product. This difference between the competition is a major strategy by the management to beat the WWE in popularity and attendance, as well as content. </p><p> </p><p> A big name roster is set to debut for the grand return of Monday Night Nitro on April 3, 2017.</p><p> </p><p> This is how the roster looks heading into the relaunch:</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="font-size:14px;">Roster Breakdown:</span></span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Main Event:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p> <span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong>CM Punk</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong> Jeff Hardy</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong> M.V.P.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong>Kurt Angle</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Ethan Carter III</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Drew Galloway</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Ryback</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Batista</strong></span></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Upper Midcard:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> <span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong>Rey Mysterio</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong> Matt Hardy</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong> Bobby Lashley</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong>Conor McGregor</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Wade Barrett</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Cody Rhodes</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Abyss</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#FF0000;"><strong> Elijah Burke</strong></span></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Midcard:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p> <span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong>Kenny Omega</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong> Caristico</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#0000FF;"><strong> Prince Puma</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="color:#FF0000;">Bubba Ray Dudley</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> D-Von Dudley</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> John Morrison</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Mike Bennett</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Carlito</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Ted DiBiase Jr.</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Adam Cole</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Mr. Anderson</span></strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Lower Midcard:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p> <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Matt Sydal</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#0000FF;"> Jay Lethal</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="color:#FF0000;">Mil Muertes</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Crazzy Steve</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Joey Ryan</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#FF0000;"> Homicide</span></strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Opener:</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> <strong><span style="color:#0000FF;">Fénix</span></strong></p><p><strong><span style="color:#0000FF;"> L.A. <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Main Show</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

A prefilmed angle is shown on the screen. It is filmed in dramatic fashion and with good cinematography. It explains how WCW came to be, how it fell, and how it is being reborn. It shows Goldberg's dominance and him bashing WWE for what they did to him. Charlotte is shown voicing her opinion on WCW beating WWE in every way possible. Hollywood Hogan hypes up WCW alongside Sting. Finally Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff reveal that they are the owner and head booker of the new WCW. <strong>(B+:84)</strong></p><p><strong>

<strong>Ethan Carter III vs. Matt Morgan vs. Jay Lethal -</strong> Ethan Carter III pinned Matt Morgan after secretly using a steel chair to incapacitate him. <strong>(C+:65)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Paul Heyman enters the ring and announces that he has joined the best company in sports entertainment and that he has a new client debuting in WCW. He describes his client as a monster who is going to take WCW by storm and vanquish anyone who stands against him. He points to the ramp as "FEED ME MORE!" blares and is shown on the screen. Ryback comes out to the ring and prepares for his match. <strong>(B+:85)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ryback vs. Homicide -</strong> Ryback dominated Homicide in a short match. Ryback pinned Homicide after delivering a Suplex Powerbomb to him. <strong>(C-:55)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

John Morrison and Joey Ryan come out looking fresh and acting very full of themselves as they stroll down the ramp to the ring. Morrison takes the mic and says "The two best looking men from Los Angelas are in tiny little Ocean Elinore, California to..." Joey interrupts him, "Don't you mean Lake Elsinore John?" "Yes, thankyou Joey... As I was saying. We're in tiny little Lake Elinore, California to bless all the ladies here with the bodies of two ravishing individuals." Joey says, "We're here to announce the formation of the most attractive tag team in sports entertainment history." "The Dashing!" "Immaculate!" "Charismatic!" "Keen?" John dramatically gets on the turnbuckle, "And as the joke of a company WWE would say!" "Superstars!" They both pose for the crowd. Suddenly Kenny Omega's music hits and he has a mic at the entrance. Kenny says, "Well look what we have here. 2 wannabe porn stars trying to be wrestlers. Hey Johnny UPorn is that way! Heard they needed 2 dashing or whatever men to be in their next film! Anyways all I see here are 2 dashing, immaculate, charismatic, keen, superstars.... I'll spell it out for you. I just see 2 dicks!" Kenny drops the mic and walks away as Morrison and Joey look at each other confused as to how they could be dicks. <strong>(C-:58)</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Hardys vs. The Legacy -</strong> Jeff and Matt Hardy defeated Ted DiBiase Jr. and Cody Rhodes in a decent match when Jeff Hardy pinned Ted DiBiase Jr. following a Twist of Fate & Swanton Bomb Combo. <strong>(C+:68)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Immediately following the match the Hardys are blindsided by the Dudley Boyz and Spike Dudley. They beat down the Hardys and put them both through tables. Afterwards Bubba Ray tells them that their rivalry isn't over and to watch their backs because the Dudleyz are coming for the Hardys to end it all once and for all. <strong>(B-:74)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Rey Mysterio comes out to the ring to a huge pop from the crowd. He talks about how much WCW means to him and how glad he is that its back for good. He then brings out his 2 partners who will be forming Super Lucha with him. His friends from Lucha Underground Prince Puma and Fénix. <strong>(C-:54)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Super Lucha vs. Empire and Mike Bennett -</strong> Rey Mysterio, Fénix, and Prince Puma defeated Wade Barrett, Drew Galloway, and Mike Bennett when Prince Puma pinned Mike Bennett after delivering an impressive Standing Shooting Star Press. <strong>(C+:70)</strong></p><p><strong>

</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Following their impressive win Super Lucha is attacked by Mil Muertes, Pentagon Dark, and Matanza who are all also from Lucha Underground. The 3 monsters completely obliterate the luchadores in quick fashion. Catrina then tells the crowd that they are Los Pecadores (meaning The Sinners in Spanish) and that they are here to take over WCW, but first are here to destroy Super Lucha once and for all. <strong>(C:59)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>CM Punk vs. Batista -</strong> CM Punk successfully defeated Batista in a hard fought match. He won by pinning Batista after landing the GTS. <strong>(B-:72)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

CM Punk is celebrating the first main event win on WCW in over 15 years when he is curiously interrupted by a peculiar Irish woman's singing voice. The song plays for around a minute with the Irish flag waving on the screen while CM Punk is just sitting in the ring smiling, humming to the music, and swaying back and forth. When the beat drops a small, bearded man with sunglasses and a white tiger suit appears from the entrance tunnel. It suddenly becomes clear its "The Notorious" Conor McGregor and the crowd pops out of disbelief. He takes the mic and says "Punk you ain't nothing, but a windy city, pepsi loving little bitch! I saw what you did when you came to my turf in the UFC. Who beat you again? Why don't I know his name, but I know yours? Because you're handed everything you've ever achieved here. I got news for you! Conor McGregor is here and he's here to stay and the notorious one is coming for your head Punk." Punk continues to smile as he takes a mic. "Sorry, McDonald I can't see you. Where are you at again? Oh over there! You don't know what youre getting into here. Here I have the ability to use the environment as my weapon. I am CM Punk and I'm ready to take on anyone, especially a 5ft5 100lb angry lepercon." McGregor laughs and says "I'll see you in the cage you just watch Punk." He walks away as his theme song plays, the camera pans out, and the screen fades to black. <strong>(A:96)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Pre Show:

Dark Match #1: Spike Dudley vs. Ryback vs. Elijah Burke

dp5eHIB.gifBqqOoZf.gifzRbwnaq.gifBqqOoZf.gifoPz2YdJ.gif

A simple dark match to get Ryback more experience and popularity with a win against a formidable foe in Elijah Burke. Spike Dudley was added to get him on the card and for him to take the pin in the match. The match was carried by Ryback who used huge power moves and his size to his advantage. The end of the match occurred when Ryback lifted Elijah Burke over his head and threw him over the top rope out of the ring. Ryback then proceeded to perform a Suplex Powerslam on Spike Dudley and then pinned him for the victory. It was noted that Ryback came out of the match looking good.

Dark Match #2: Mr. Anderson vs. Matt Morgan

FsQN0rw.gifBqqOoZf.gifr06DOWK.gif

Another dark match to get Matt Morgan's momentum back to around neutral. Morgan has been battling it out with Mike Bennett on the Pre Show the last few weeks and taken a few losses. This match was just a way to give him a nice win he deserved. In a decent match Matt Morgan defeated Mr. Anderson by pinfall following the Carbon Footprint.

Dark Match #3: Empire vs. The Legacy

y5oXIW2.gifgjPWijp.gifBqqOoZf.gifKHH2okR.gifDILEE6z.gif

The aim of this match was to give Empire a win and start building momentum for them as a team. In a fairly good tag team match Wade Barrett and Drew Galloway defeated Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase Jr. The end of the match occurred when Galloway distracted Rhodes outside of the ring long enough for Wade Barrett to hit The Wasteland and pin Ted DiBiase Jr.

Dark Match #4: Bobby Lashley vs. Batista

jsvtAze.gifBqqOoZf.gif8dzizqD.gif

A decent little main event for the Pre Show to get exposure for our less used stars. Main aim of this bout was to gain a little momentum for Bobby Lashley as it has been lacking for him in recent weeks. Lashley and Batista battled it out in a decent match. Most of the match was power moves and strength counters with the finish being Batista submitting to a Dragon Sleeper at the hands of Bobby Lashley.

The screen is then turned to Ric Flair and Charlotte who are in the middle of the ring. Ric Flair shoots a promo on how electrifying this environment is for this monumental PPV. He stresses that history is being made tonight. He ends his promo by stating "Its been over 15 years since WCW has aired a PPV and today is going to be the start of a new era... And at the end of this era only one company will be left standing... And that company will be WCW, Wooo!"

WCW Hardcore Championship

Abyss vs. Sabu (Hardcore Match)

g3aJcVZ.gifBqqOoZf.gifDtbKDQ4.gif

The hardcore match between Abyss and Sabu was sub-par compared to their match against each other at TNA Turning Point 2005 known as The Barbed Wire Massacre which was the overall expectation. The names in the match and the stipulations were enough to hype up a bloody, entertaining match, but instead the vocal crowd was disappointed in the aging Sabu who was exhausted after only a 9 minute match. On a positive note Abyss truly shone in the match showing that he is the dominant hardcore wrestler in WCW and a worthy champion. The match also got the crowd buzzing.

The match saw many hardcore spots. One of the most exciting was at the very end of the match. Sabu was slammed onto a pile of thumbtacks, but recovered and hit Abyss in the head with a cane, breaking it in two over his head. Abyss sold the move and fell to the floor. Sabu climbed the turnbuckle and prepared to deliver an aerial move to the downed Abyss. When he jumped Abyss suddenly stood up, chair in hand and clotheslined Sabu with the chair while he was midair. The chair strike was sold very well with Sabu doing a half backflip before crashing onto his neck lawnchair style. Abyss then pinned the now bloody Sabu.

Grade: (C-:56)

Following the win Abyss continued to beat down Sabu. Abyss used chair strikes, thumbtacks, a barbed wire bat, and a cane to bloody Sabu for around 4 minutes. He ended his onslaught by performing a Black Hole Slam on Sabu through the announce table. Abyss stormed out of the stadium, title in hand as medical personnel tended to Sabu. Taz even stated that this may end Sabu's career.

WCW Light Heavyweight Championship

Ethan Carter III vs. Caristico vs. John Morrison vs. Kenny Omega (Ladder Match)

p9LtVlL.gifCCRpz3c.gifdwprOSu.gifCCRpz3c.gifv6YX7AH.gifCCRpz3c.gifIL23hkw.gif

The fatal 4 way ladder match for the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship was decent and was just below my expectations for the match. I believe the in ring talent was there, but the heat and popularity of the stars involved wasn't. This match progressed an interesting storyline that I enjoy creating and elevated John Morrison with a title victory. It also showcased Joey Ryan who I'm hoping to build up while teaming with John. It should also be noted that Kenny Omega was sadly off his game for this match.

The match saw some very good chain wrestling along with a nice flow using all four competitors evenly. High flying action using the ladder was also seen from Caristico and Ethan Carter III used a few large power moves against his opponents. Joey Ryan came out to ringside and distracted Kenny Omega who was the only competitor besides John left standing by mocking Kenny and getting in his face. This bought John enough time to retrieve the title in a tainted victory.

Grade: (C:62)

Following the victory Joey Ryan and Kenny Omega get into a scrum after Kenny notices that Joey purposely cost him the victory. It is broken up when John Morrison comes down from the ladder, title in hand, and defends his partner. Kenny continues shouting at the two men, but still ends up walking away. As Kenny is exiting the two men celebrate the win by mocking him. John continuously points to the title in his hand and smiles as Kenny yells. The two men pose with the title as the screen cuts to a commercial break.

WCW Six Man Tag Team Championship

Los Pecadores vs. Super Lucha (Elimination Match)

DEBftG7.gifrcZ7TZu.gifhZTjGDE.gifCCRpz3c.gifjCwTzv2.gifAE61b6I.gifvGNAw9V.gif

The match was a little lower than expected, but still a decent match for wrestlers with low popularity ratings in a popularity based company. I enjoyed writing this storyline and feeding off of a little bit of Lucha Underground lore with it. The storyline continues and all the wrestlers involved continue to gain popularity. It should also be noted that Fénix was visibly tiring towards the end, but the match was around 18 minutes long.

The match saw some good wrestling from all competitiors involved. Los Pecadores focused more on brute strength and Super Lucha focused on strategy and high flying quickness. The match's first elimination was Matanza by Prince Puma after he landed a standing shooting star press on him. This forced Pentagon Dark into the match. After a few minutes of chain wrestling and exciting moves Prince Puma tagged in Rey Mysterio who, after a few minutes, finished Pentagon Dark off with a 619 while the other two members of Super Lucha occupied Mil Muertes. Following the elimination of Pentagon Dark Mil Muertes entered the ring and Rey Mysterio tagged in Fénix. Fénix fought it out with Mil Muertes eventually grounding him to the mat and tagging in Prince Puma for an exciting double tag team move. The move saw Fénix frog splash on top of Mil Muertes followed by a standing shooting star press by Prince Puma. Mil Muertes surprisingly kicked out and the frustrated Puma tagged Fénix back in. Mil Muertes rose to his feet and eventually pinned Fénix after a hard fought battle with him. Prince Puma jumped into the ring following the pin, but was promptly slammed to the mat by the now motivated Mil Muertes. Following a huge powerbomb Mil Muertes pinned Prince Puma which led to Rey Mysterio entering the ring. Rey and Muertes squared off in a very even bout until Rey eventually got the upper hand and set up Mil Muertes for a 619. At this point Catrina took out a small green rock from her pocket and held it up above her head towards the downed Mil Muertes. This empowered him and rose him to his feet just in time to catch Rey as he jumped from the top rope into his arms following the first part of his finisher. Mil Muertes swung Rey around and delivered a devastating powerbomb to him. Rey was choke lifted by Mil Muertes followed by a Flatliner by him and the pin. Mil Muertes, Pentagon Dark, and Matanza were now the WCW Six Man Tag Team Champions.

WCW World Tag Team Championship

The Hardys vs. The Dudley Boyz (TLC Match)

bALRGtn.gifHciHPlM.gifCCRpz3c.gifGdjxNsi.gifG6YdCYI.gif

The match rating was around what was expected and was pretty good for a tag team match. It should be noted that D-Von was really off his game for this match.

The match saw some classic spots from The Hardys and The Dudleyz which brought back the memories fans had of the attitude era tag team scene. There were countless tables broken, chair strikes, and high flying moves off ladders. The biggest spot was at the end of the match where Matt Hardy, D-Von Dudley, and Bubba Ray Dudley all took a crazy bump. There were 2 huge 20ft ladders set up in the center of the ring and all 4 men were battling it out on top of them. Matt who was striking with D-Von eventually gains the upper hand and stuns D-Von, who is still on the ladder with him, for enough time to grab the title and start to unhook it. At this point Spike Dudley who was at ringside runs up and starts pushing the ladder down. The ladder falls hitting the other ladder with Jeff Hardy and Bubba Ray Dudley on it as well. Bubba is sent off the ladder, outside of the ring, and through the announce table. Matt Hardy is sent off, outside of the ring as well, and through a stack of 4 tables. And D-Von also fell to the outside of the ring where he landed on a ladder that was set up horizontally with one end on the ring and the other on the opposite side announce table. D-Von snapped the ladder in 2. When all the ladders began to fall Jeff Hardy jumped off of it and grabbed ahold of the title. While hanging above the ring he unhooked the titles and fell to the mat the below having won the WCW World Tag Team Championship.

Conor McGregor vs. CM Punk (Steel Cage Last Man Standing Match)

iLfCfte.gifCCRpz3c.gifxRiU5dP.gif

The match did really well and with a little more of a push Conor McGregor could be a huge star in this company, possibly even the top heel for years to come. The match had great wrestling and good heat so the only thing that lacked it from becoming a 90+ match was the popularity of the superstars involved which will come over time. Conor McGregor also improved his performance skills during this match.

This match was a really interesting idea to me. One of the best MMA stars of this era vs. CM Punk who left the wrestling business for the UFC and failed. The storyline kind of wrote itself and it was a good way to burst Conor McGregor onto the main event scene instead of slowly building him up because his personality and character was more suited for this kind of push. The match itself was really interesting. Conor used his MMA tactics to strike Punk and kick him, but Punk countered by using high flying moves and the cage to his advantage. There were a few near falls when Punk was knocked down by McGregor's punches, but McGregor almost lost too when he taunted CM Punk only to be thrown into the steel cage face first. The finish of the match saw Ronda Rousey distract Punk long enough for McGregor to ground him and deliver a hail of TKO punches, knocking him out. With that Conor McGregor had beaten CM Punk.

WCW World Heavyweight Championship

Kurt Angle vs. Goldberg

TRVFiUr.gifCCRpz3c.gif32oQm1U.gif

The match was decent, but not nearly good enough for the Main Event. Overall it told a good story and served its purpose of crowning the first WCW World Heavyweight Champion in over 15 years.

In a decent match with good heat Kurt Angle defeated Goldberg in a hard fought match. Kurt used his superior technical based wrestling to ground Goldberg as best he could and Goldberg focused on using his power and strength advantage against Kurt. Eventually Kurt got the upperhand and pinned Goldberg following a impressive Super Angle Slam to Goldberg. With the pin Kurt Angle won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

As Kurt runs off with the title in disbelief Goldberg is sitting in the middle of the ring shocked and upset with himself for the loss. He gets up holding his back and looks at the crowd. The defeated Goldberg then looks down to the ground and slowly starts making his way down the entrance ramp. When he is halfway down the ramp "FEED ME MORE!" hits and Ryback comes charging out of the entrance and down the ramp. Ryback attacks Goldberg with a spear and delivers a few big power moves to him before leaving. The camera pans to Goldberg lying unconscious on the ramp and the screen fades to black.

<strong>WCW World Tag Team Championship Number One Contenders Match: The Legacy vs. Empire vs. The Dudley Boyz -</strong> In a pretty decent match, Empire defeated The Legacy and The Dudley Boyz when Wade Barrett pinned Bubba Ray Dudley following a Wasteland. The order of elimination was The Legacy first, and then The Dudley Boyz. <strong>(B-:74)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

After the match Conor McGregor comes out to celebrate with Wade and Drew. As their celebrating they are interrupted by The Hardys who come out and tell Empire that their reign is over and that they are going to destroy them at Slamboree. <strong>(B+:86)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Abyss is on the screen in a creepy abandoned house. He has a casket with Rob Van Dams name on it. He cuts a program on how he is going to murder RVD at Slamboree and defend his hardcore championship. <strong>(B+:87)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>CM Punk and Kurt Angle vs. Conor McGregor and Hollywood Hogan -</strong> In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Conor McGregor and Hollywood Hogan defeated CM Punk and Kurt Angle when Conor McGregor defeated Kurt Angle by pinfall with a TKO Punch. During the match we also had CM Punk turn on Angle. About halfway through the match Punk walked away from the match leaving Kurt to fend for himself. <strong>(B:78)</strong></p><p> </p><p>

It was better than the previous PPV bout for the hardcore title and saw some good hardcore spots as well as interesting storyline progression. The match gave an up and coming wrestler a proper place to debut and a good feud to start off with. Sadly Abyss received a cracked sterum during the match and will be out of action for a considerable amount of time.</p><p> </p><p> In a fairly decent brawl Rob Van Dam defeated Abyss to win the WCW Hardcore Championship. The match started off really nice with Abyss countering RVD's high flying and quick agility with powerful chair and barbed wire bat strikes. RVD countered Abyss though when RVD landed a diving dropkick which drove Abyss' chair into his face knocking him down to the mat. At that point the lights start to flicker and hardcore music hit with a red mist pouring out of the entranceway. The camera pans to the entrance ramp as both competitors look towards it. A man slowly emerges from the mist cracking his knuckles. He has on a trench coat with spikes on the shoulders and a spiked half mask. It soon became apparent to anyone that followed hardcore or British wrestling that it was Jimmy Havoc. He ran to the ring, looked at both the downed wrestlers, and then proceeded to kick the living hell out of Abyss. He delivered brutal weapon shots to him as well as bashing his head on the steel steps. His onslaught ended when he placed the bloodied Abyss in the center of the ring with a chair on his chest. He pointed to Rob Van Dam (who was utterly shocked and still watching from the corner of the ring) and motioned for him to get on the top rope. RVD saw the opportunity and took it. He delivered a frog splash to Abyss and pinned him for the victory.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (C:64)</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="azWECiJ.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/azWECiJ.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Following the match the referee awarded Rob Van Dam the title and Jimmy Havoc raised his hand in celebration. After a few seconds Jimmy dropped Rob's hand and turned to RVD with his hand outstretched for a handshake. When RVD started motioning toward him to shake his hand Jimmy kicked him below the belt and began beating him. He bloodied RVD with a barbed wire bat and after a few minutes grabbed the WCW Hardcore Championship, rose it above his head with one hand, rose his middle finger to the crowd with the other, and walked out of the entranceway.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (C:61)</strong></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="ek9dPz9.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/ek9dPz9.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW World Television Championship</span></strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>M.V.P. vs. Ethan Carter III</strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="VRp6DJ9.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/VRp6DJ9.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="CCRpz3c.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/CCRpz3c.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="uYwOICG.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/uYwOICG.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The match for the WCW World Television Championship was pretty good. It showed the skills of the depth of our roster and showcased two wrestlers who haven't had too much screen time, but have very good skill. It was a good way to kick off the newly reactivated title and give it some prestige and momentum going forward. It was also a way to give Ethan Carter III a nice push that he deserves.</p><p> </p><p> The match was very technical and power moves based. The two styles of both wrestlers together created good chemistry for the match to feed off of with both wrestlers evenly battling it out until the very end. The finish of the match occurred when Ethan Carter III finally landed the One Percenter on M.V.P. and followed up the move with the pinfall. Ethan Carter III's win made him the first WCW World Television Champion in over 17 years.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (B:77)</strong></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Iema81O.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/Iema81O.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Light Heavyweight Championship (Ladder Match)</span></strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Kenny Omega vs. John Morrison {©}</strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="orMoRZw.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/orMoRZw.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="CCRpz3c.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/CCRpz3c.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="aLx8Auc.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/aLx8Auc.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The match was decent, but could have done a lot better if both wrestlers were to be pushed more in terms of popularity. The storyline progressed and gave Kenny Omega a nice push moving forward.</p><p> </p><p> The ladder match for the WCW Light Heavyweight Championship was a good showcase of two seasoned in ring competitors. There were high flying spots by both wrestlers involved and it was overall an entertaining match. The finish of the match was an incredible high spots move. Kenny Omega and John Morrison were battling it out on top of the ladder when Kenny got the upper hand. He maneuvered the stunned Morrison and turned him around on the top of the ladder. With both men standing on the ladder Kenny Omega delivered a dragon rush to John Morrison from the top of the ladder to the ring below. After a catastrophic move both men were laying there motionless so the referee began to count. Kenny made it to his feet leaning against the ladder when the referee got to 9 and began his climb. He unhooked the title as Morrison's outstretched hand barely touched the bottom of the ladder. With the win Kenny Omega became the new WCW Light Heavyweight Champion.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (C+:68)</strong></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Rk0QKLL.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/Rk0QKLL.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW Six Man Tag Team Championship</span></strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Super Lucha vs. Los Pecadores {©}</strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="jCwTzv2.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/jCwTzv2.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="AE61b6I.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/AE61b6I.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="vGNAw9V.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/vGNAw9V.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="CCRpz3c.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/CCRpz3c.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="DEBftG7.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/DEBftG7.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="rcZ7TZu.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/rcZ7TZu.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="hZTjGDE.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/hZTjGDE.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The match did not do as well as hoped and probably should have occurred earlier in the night. The rating was probably penalized because of the finish to the match, but the storyline still progresses and paints an interesting picture going forward.</p><p> </p><p> The match saw good high flying and quickness from Super Lucha and great strength and power moves by Los Pecadores. The match had great transitions and proved how much both teams were willing to put their bodies on the line for the championships and their feud. The finish of the match occurred when Rey Mysterio had Mil Muertes down and out following a 619. Mil Muertes partners Matanza and Pentagon Dark were also busy brawling with Prince Puma and Fénix near the announce tables. When Rey was about to pin Mil Muertes Alberto Del Rio ran out to the ring with The Caras Stone raised over his head. Mil Muertes rose up and began demolishing Rey Mysterio. At this point the referee rang the bell and Los Pecadores was disqualified due to breaking Eric Bischoff's rule of not allowing Alberto Del Rio or The Caras Stone at ringside. With the disqualification Los Pecadores still retained their WCW Six Man Tag Team Championship.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (C+:68)</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="S37Pluq.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/S37Pluq.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Following the bell Los Pecadores with Alberto Del Rio beat down Super Lucha as well as the referee. During the match Jeff Hardy sustained a bruised buttocks. In terms of in-ring work it should be noted that Jeff Hardy was head and shoulders above everyone else.</p><p> </p><p> The tag team match saw very good chemistry from both teams and an overall good in-ring performance from all competitors involved. There were a few huge moments where one wrestler would hit his finisher only for the pin to narrowly be broken up by the other's tag team partner. The finish saw Conor McGregor come out and distract the referee and Matt Hardy long enough for Drew Galloway to hit Jeff Hardy with a huge steel chair strike. When the referee turned back and began counting for the pinfall Conor McGregor pulled Matt Hardy from the apron which kept him from saving his tag team partner. With the pinfall Empire became the new WCW World Tag Team Champions. Matt looked in disgust at the celebrating champions and Conor McGregor as they exited.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (B:82)</strong></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Goldberg vs. Ryback (Retirement Last Man Standing Match)</strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="InjfUxr.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/InjfUxr.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="XqhJv3j.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/XqhJv3j.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="M2PEfYo.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/M2PEfYo.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The match did fairly good and as expected. It was a great way to have a dream match of sorts occur because of the resemblance between Ryback and Goldberg. Also the stakes of the match were a very good way to get the fans behind this big match. It was a great way to push Ryback and a good way for Goldberg to pass the torch.</p><p> </p><p> The match saw many power moves and strong strikes. The strength of both men being able to lift each other up and deliver huge moves to each other was very impressive. In a hard fought battle of the goliaths Ryback finally defeated Goldberg when he delivered Goldberg's own finisher to him, the Jackhammer. The ref counted as the crowd rose and when he counted 10 Goldberg's wrestling career was officially over crowning Ryback as the victor and the best of the beasts.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (B-:73)</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Goldberg sits in disbelief in the ring as he realizes that his wrestling career has been ended. At the same time Ryback and Paul Heyman are celebrating. Paul Heyman asks for a microphone as Goldberg is about halfway down the entrance ramp. He tells Goldberg that he's a washed up has been and it was time for him to go anyway. He wishes him goodluck with his 401k and laughs with Ryback at the defeated veteran. Goldberg walks out of the entranceway with his arm raised in a fist though and the camera fades to black with this image.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (B+:86)</strong></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44256" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dSJqeWV.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/dSJqeWV.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">WCW World Heavyweight Championship</span></strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Conor McGregor vs. CM Punk vs. Kurt Angle {©}</strong></p></div><p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="AqKoFQc.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/AqKoFQc.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="XqhJv3j.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/XqhJv3j.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="KXOCimc.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/KXOCimc.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="XqhJv3j.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/XqhJv3j.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UK3SRc4.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/UK3SRc4.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The match was set up very well with superb wrestling and good heat, but the overall match rating suffered. I assume due to the finish of the match. Overall compared to the other matches on the card it was a bit weak for a main event, but still accomplished the storyline goals and Conor McGregor's push going forward.</p><p> </p><p> The match saw superb wrestling from all competitors involved as they squared off in a triple threat match for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. The end of the match saw Wade Barrett, Drew Galloway, and Douglas Williams distract the referee while Jimmy Havoc hit Kurt Angle with the WCW Hardcore Championship incapacitating him. The members of Empire also distracted CM Punk with their antics allowing him to be swiftly hit with an Ireland's Son by Conor McGregor in the confusion. Following the move McGregor pinned CM Punk becoming the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (B-:71)</strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="wQYuOi1.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/wQYuOi1.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="9Jy0OBo.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/9Jy0OBo.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="azWECiJ.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/azWECiJ.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="sQCIF7A.gif" data-src="https://imgur.com/sQCIF7A.gif" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Following the match all of the members of Empire celebrated. Douglas Williams lifted Conor McGregor on his shoulders while the new champion held up the WCW World Heavyweight Championship, Wade Barrett and Drew Galloway held up the WCW World Tag Team Championships, and Jimmy Havoc posed with the stolen WCW Hardcore Championship while flicking off the camera. McGregor took the microphone and stated that Empire was here to rule and here to stay and that tonight was proof of that. The screen fades to black with the dominant stable holding much of WCW's championships in hand.</p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Grade: (B+:84)</strong></p></div><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="font-size:24px;">Show Grade: C+ 68</span></span></strong></p></div><p></p>
