Suggestions to Improve Immersion

Recommended Posts

Been playing less than two years now, so a caveat that I may not have seen everything there is to see yet. Still, I think I've got a feels of the basic fighter vs. fighter interaction mechanic so far, so would like to suggest some ways it can be improved:

- Cite specific reasons for fighters' beef with one another, instead of current generic challenges

Whilst I do appreciate the extra effort put in this iteration to provide more variations of challenges/news stories/fighter conflicts, I think that the presentation is still a little sparse and cosmetic in nature. What makes for a convincing and compelling drama between fighters is more precise reasons or backstory for challenges between fighters. Instead, after seeing them all, the current system simply recycles them over and over again and it gets very generic and unconvincing after a while.

So for e.g.:

'Fighter A has continued her beef with Fighter B, taking to social media to mock him via a series of posts. The two fighters have been feuding for some time over accusations that he cheated during their last contest.

OR

'Fighter X has been jailed for eighteen months after being convicted of assault. The incident happened when he overheard a debate at a local bar over who had better striking ability, and appears to have used his fists to settle it.'

I would like to see more comments like those highlighted in red - they really help to bring alive the dynamic between both fighters and make the feud more convincing.

On a side note for this: I don't mind writing these from scratch if you'd allow me to.

- Increase rate of Random Incidents, Relationship Rate

I have mine both set to 'Very High', but have only seen less than 3 incidents popping up in my email over the last two years. Is this normal?

For relationships, for some reason I'm only getting 'Very dislike's forming on a regular basis, but not much else. What about friendships? married couples? friendly rivalries?

- Impact / Weight of Challenges

May I clarify the effect of challenges on fights: does it only mean that both fighters will NEVER not accept a fight between them? Or does the severity of the challenge also affect popularity gained / attendance of event / hype of the fight?

I'm also wondering whether there could be some way to see the history of challenges made between fighters. Currently they fight and then the record disappears? The winner moves on to challenge another fighter whilst completely ignoring the old guy. It doesn't make much sense for there to be a HUGE war of words between two fighters (and some very cutting remarks made), only for the challenge and beef to disappear once the fight is over and done.

Some options might be the actually address the rivalry in the fight itself, apart from just a mere 'no touching of gloves' at the beginning of a fight. The fighters could address the rivalry in the pre/post-fight, for e.g., commenting on 'How long have I waited to lay my hands on her!' or 'FINALLY I get to beat him up.'

To build upon this mechanic, Challenges (Especially bitter ones which hit 'Nuclear' for example, should translate into a negative relationship formation, and that negative relationship should then result in more fights between them in the future. Currently, a challenge may go from Hot -> Nuclear without ANY explanation/reason (apart from a few generically generated news stories like I mentioned above), between fighters who haven't had a fight between them before and have zero reason to be feuding in the first place. It's kinda unrealistic and makes the severity of the system redundant.

Finally, I wanted to ask how specifically do challenges work, or how does the system decide on who gets to challenge whom? Is it like last time, where fighters only challenge other fighters based on relative ranking? Because I'm noticing that that doesn't always happen, and fighters can get challenged and challenge others willy-nilly (sometimes the same fighter will get challenged by multiple people on the same show, for some reason?). Some clarification here might help.

Thanks again for all your hard work! It's really an improvement over the version in #4 though in terms of sheer amount of stuff added! THank you! :)

Maybe more suggestions to come!

Challenges developed over time (Nuclear ones most specifically) do add to the draw of a fight. A properly developed challenge between two decently popular fighters would definitely be a great fight for your card.

Also, I've had instances where the dislike doesn't end after one fight. Then again, I've had one particular instance between 2 fighters where it explicitly said that they ended their beef so it's probably random.
