Excerpt from December 15, 1997 Wrestling Observer Newsletter

  • The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has received an invitation from the National Wrestling Alliance regarding a press conference to be held on December 30th at The Rivieia Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The notice was vague as to the reason to the conference, simply referring to the "National Wrestling Alliance's future." We reached out to the NWA President, Howard Brody, who declined to comment and only referenced the press invitation.

Sources close to the NWA stated that the NWA Board of Directors have been meeting much more often over the past two months than they have over the previous two years. One source reported that the Board may be looking to replace Brody as President but no names have been suggested at this time.

  • In additional NWA news, sources are reporting that NWA representatives have been in contact with both CMLL and NJPW in regards to the NWA championships that they have been booking. The NWA Junior Heavyweight and Welterweight Championships have been vacated since early November when NJPW returned the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship and Shinjiro Otani vacated every championship with the exception of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. The physical belts remained under NJPW possesion until recently.

CMLL have been booking the Light Heavyweight, Middleweight, and Welterweight Championships since the 50's when EMLL joined the NWA. EMLL left the NWA in 1986 but retained the championships. Sources report that the CMLL have been less willing to work with the NWA than NJPW was but time will tell.

Sources are reporting that the NWA actively persuing the physical belts are a part of their future plans that are tied to the announcement on December 30th.

And thank you all for being here this morning to share in this incredibly important milestone in the history of the National Wrestling Alliance. Since it's creation in 1948, the National Wrestling Alliance have been the premier name in professional wrestling around the world. Unfortunately, the past couple of years haven't been too kind to the NWA and it's affiliate promotions. Since September of 1993, we've had our World Heavyweight Championship belt thrown to the floor and our name dragged through the mud as we've fought to remain relevant in a changing pro wrestling landscape. We've remained traditional in spite of that change. We've tried to stay the course as the Alliance has been since it was formed but we've accepted that for the National Wrestling Alliance to survive into the next millennium and beyond, things needed to change.</strong></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Brody takes a step back, clearing his throat. We've had very lengthy and very heated discussions but ultimately, we've decided that, for the sake of future of the National Wrestling Alliance, we would accept. So, effective January 1st 1998, all of the affiliate promotions are no longer members of the National Wrestling Alliance and all NWA branded championships will be vacated. Additionally, the name, trademarks, and history of the NWA have been sold but I think that would be better explained by the new National Wrestling Alliance President. <p>Dana White makes his way to the podium and shakes the hand of Howard Brody. They both look out to the media as photographers swarm the bottom of the stage. After some time, Brody steps away and takes a seat at the right of the podium. The NWA name has lost much of its meaning but we hope to bring that prestige back with new focus. That's why we're terminated all affiliate contracts and consolidated our efforts here. I'm proud to announce our first step in rebuilding is establishing a home base, here at The Riviera Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Traveling the US, Japan and Mexico to meet with these wrestlers, we've found that we wanted new blood. So, I'm announcing today that all of the NWA championships have been vacated and all physical belts are currently in our possession. While we rebuild, we're going to reintroduce each of those championships with the intent for each to have the potential to main event any show, anywhere in the world. <p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;">Excerpts from the January 6, 1998 Wrestling Observer Newsletter</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>As to who the new owners of the National Wrestling Alliance are, ZUFFA, LLC is a newly created entity headed by three men, Frank and Lorenzo Fertitta and Dana White. The Fertittas are the money men, having made their fortune in the casino and entertainment business while White is the figurehead, the idea man. None of these men have a background in professional wrestling but it appears that White, who has a background in combat sports being an agent of various mixed martial artists, convinced childhood friends Lorenzo and Frank to take the chance of getting into the wrestling business.</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>Although they purchased the NWA IP's and such, The Fertittas and White didn't buy much of anything physical besides the championship belts as the NWA itself didn't own anything like rings, stage equipment, lighting, ect. When asked, White made comment that Zuffa has been spending a lot of money to get prepared for their first show.</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>When the NWA conference ended, nearly all of the wrestlers and NWA executives were available for questioning. The only exceptions were former NWA President Brody and the "Masked Marvel." I imagine that Brody's exit was at the request of the new ownership, although I doubt Howard argued the point. He seemed uncomfortable the entire time he was on stage. In regards to Marvel, it appears that they're trying to keep the mystery around the character, not allowing him to be interviewed. Hopefully, for the man under the hood, Wayne Bloom, this new masked character will give him new life as his most recent WWF run as one half of the Beverly Brothers was pretty lackluster and the two dark matches he had for WCW in August and October didn't lead to anything.</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="g2gsx9T.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/g2gsx9T.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> Key Notes from NWA President White's Interview</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> On the decision to make Las Vegas as the home base - <strong>I live here. It's mostly that but in addition to that, it's Las Vegas. Vegas is the big fight capital of the world. Boxing, MMA, all of that. People will travel to here if we give them a reason to.</strong></p><p> </p><p> On why they chose The Riviera to partner with - <strong>It may not seem like much but The Riviera does have a history of hosting wrestling. Besides that, they were looking for a semi regular show to run and we're ready to provide that.</strong></p><p> </p><p> On why they vacated all of the Championships - <strong>Well, most were already vacated. It was just a matter of getting the physical belts back. For the others, most didn't want to commit to being in America as often as we will require.</strong> </p><p> <em>Observer Note : The Championships that were vacated were the Heavyweight held by Dan Severn, an American; the Tag held by Pat and CW Anderson, both American; Light Heavyweight held by Shocker of CMLL, a Mexican who frequently wrestles in America; and Middleweight held by Ultimo Dragon who is spliting time between Japan, Mexico, and America.</em></p><p> </p><p> On Dan Severn - <strong>We wanted Dan. I love what Dan has been doing as the Champion but we just couldn't come to an agreement. He wanted to keep doing the traveling champion thing but we wanted more control on who challenged for the championship. We wanted to keep it on NWA branded events exclusively. He still has an open invitation to join us whenever he's ready.</strong></p><p> </p><p> On other signings - <strong>We have a few others that'll be introduced during the undercard of the tournament shows. The World Heavyweight Championship Tournament Night 1

January 16, 1998

300px-B-987349707.jpg

The Riviera Hotel and Casino

Las Vegas, NV

Attendance : 240

Kevin Kelly starts the show in the ring, welcoming the crowd to the beautiful Riviera Hotel and Casino. Kelly runs down the card, hyping the return match of Terry Funk, the freakshow matchup of Ron Reese vs Butterbean, and the Main Event of the evening between Mike Awesome and Chris Chavis before taking his seat with Dr. Tom at the announce table.

Kelly worked the crowd well while improvising during the segment. He did a fantastic job getting the crowd excited for the night and was the perfect way start the show.

Chris Harris and James Storm vs Adam Pearce and CW Anderson

One Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit

The inaugural contest is between four youngsters just looking for an opportunity to show themselves off. Kevin Kelly explains that the reason these men are teaming together are because new NWA ownership have decided to have open match offers for each show and who ever accepts the offer first get the match.

The team of Harris and Storm come to the ring together, both decked out with long dusters and cowboy hats. While the crowd buys Harris as a cowboy, they shit all over Storm. It's obvious that Storm is not completely 100% invested in playing it up as much as Harris is.

Anderson and Pearce are next out and as similar as Storm and Harris were, these two are as different. Anderson enters slowly, in plain tights and near bald head and Pearce is a happy-to-be-here rookie with long flowing hair and eye popping colorful gear, slapping hands on his way to the ring.

The match itself was a solid but uninspired bout. All four men were okay with Anderson taking the lead and pushing everyone else through their paces. Anderson spent the match using underhanded tactics against the white meat Harris and Storm. Unfortunately for Anderson, he must not have told Pearce ahead of time because they were not on the same page at all and that fed into the finish of the match.

Anderson had Harris in an abdominal stretch and reached out to Pearce, assuming that Pearce would grab his arm to add more pressure but Pearce takes the tag. Pearce runs around to attack the vulnerable midsection but Harris breaks out of the stretch and hip tosses Anderson into Pearce who crashes to the mat. Storm gets the Hot Tag, runs wild, and dropkicks Anderson out of the ring before grabbing Pearce and hitting the 8 Second Ride for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Harris and Storm celebrate with each other as the crowd cheers but not very loudly. Anderson grabs Pearce and begins walking with him through the curtain, arm around his back, talking into his ear.

James Storm and Chris Harris defeated Adam Pearce and C.W. Anderson in 14:10 by pinfall.

Marty Jannetty vs Gary Steele

1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit

This next bout is the first match of the first round of the NWA World Heavyweight Tournament. First out is Gary Steele, holding the Union Jack wearing an English inspired singlet, which garners a lot of heat from the crowd. Steele is obviously thrown off, he wasn't expecting the boos which makes him stop waving it and quickly makes his way to the ring.

Jannetty is the next out, garnishing a good pop. Jannetty soaks up all of the cheers on his way to the ring. Jannetty looks pretty much the same way he did as a part of The Rockers, just a bit bigger and a bit older.

During the match, it is obvious that Jannetty is still a hell of a hand, leading the less experienced Steele though the match. These two wrestle a very clean match which gets some of the crowd back on the side of Steele.

Steele spends the match trying for bone shattering slams followed up with leg submissions, trying to slow down the quicker Jannetty. The veteran, however, was able to fight back with quick strikes while flying around the ring.

The finish comes as Steele, starting to show signs of being winded, tries to toss Jannetty over head but Jannetty is able to turn mid air and land with a cross body on Steele's head. Jannetty gets back to his feet and backs up as Steele raises to a single knee. Jannetty slams Steele's head to the mat with a Rocker Dropper to get the 1, 2, 3.

After the match, Jannetty helps Steele to his feet and raises his hand while parading around the ring. Steele shakes Jannetty's hand before rolling out of the ring. Jannetty celebrates a bit more before heading to the back.

First Round Match

TJ Andrews vs Terry Funk

1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit

As Jannetty makes his way to the stage, TJ Andrews begins his entrance for his first round match. Andrews begins posing on the stage as Jannetty tried to make his way through the curtain. Andrews shoulder checks Jannetty and ignores his complaints on his way to the ring. Andrews enters the ring and stands in his corner, stoically awaiting his opponent.

Terry Funk bursts through the curtain with a crazed look in his eyes. As he charges the ring, his energy gets the crowd riled up which in turn riles Funk up further. Terry slides into the ring and attacks Andrews before taking off his entrance poncho. Andrews bails out of the ring as the referee, Scott Armstrong, tries to control Funk. Armstrong gets control of Funk before getting the match started.

The bout is punch-and-kick affair with the veteran Funk spending the majority of the match on the offensive, putting the pressure on Andrews. Andrews tries everything he can do get the upper hand like stalling on the outside, eye pokes, ect. But everything that Andrews does only momentarily slows the crazed Funk, who looks like he has something to prove in his return match. As the match dragged on, it was obvious that Andrews was built for show, not for go, and Funk is well past his days of 60 minute Broadways. Neither was completely gassed but both were definitely sucking wind.

As the match draws to an end, Funk takes to the top rope, launching himself head over heels into the stumbling Andrews landing a Moonsault press. Funk rolls to his feet, pulling Andrews to his feet before landing a pulling piledriver resulting in the pinfall victory for Funk.

Funk puts the boots to Andrews and pushes him out of the ring under the bottom rope. Funk starts demanding the microphone, screaming at everyone at the ringside area until he gets one. Terry continues screaming into the microphone about how he retired too soon after he fought Bret Hart, about how he could still go for decades, and about how he will be the NWA World Heavyweight Champion again and nothing can stop him. He spends the next minute or so screaming "Nothing! Nothing! Nothing!" into the microphone before dropping it and leaving the ring.

As insane as Funk may have sounded, the crowd was absolutely loving it. Funk has a connection with the crowd that can't be manufactured.

Butterbean vs Ron Reese

1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit

In the penultimate matchup of the evening, the tournament continues as Butterbean makes his way to the ring with his trainers in tow. Butterbean is decked out in his America print robe and boxing shorts but looks as if he's a bit uncomfortable without his gloves. Butterbean enters the ring and takes his corner with his trainers surrounding him.

Ron Reese is the next out and he lumbers his way to the ring. Slowly, he makes his way down the entrance way, jaw jacking with the crowd. He steps up on the apron and steps over the top rope to enter the ring.

The match starts with Reese getting chest to forehead with Butterbean. Reese pantomime searching the crowd for his opponent. After a few moments of buffoonery from Reese, Butterbean lands a straight right hand to Reese's midsection. Reese steps back in panic, screaming to the referee to immediately disqualify Butterbean for the closed fist. Scott Armstrong gives Butterbean a warning but lets the match continue.

The bout is mostly the much taller Reese using his reach advantage to keep the power puncher at bay. Butterbean continues to use strikes at every opportunity, initially using closed fist punches, which leads to further warnings from Armstrong. Eventually, Butterbean starts to get in close with palm strikes and chops, breaking the defense of Reese. The fans really got into this match as the odd pairing actually seemed to click better than other bouts this evening.

Butterbean continues beating the giant down until Butterbean finishes the match by dropping Reese to a knee, followed up with a beautiful combination of open hand strikes that dazes Reese and ends with a very powerful clothesline. Butterbean is able to get the pinfall victory in his professional wrestling debut.

After the match, Butterbean's trainers enter the ring and Butterbean takes a seat on a stool in the corner. Butterbean looks winded, obviously not used to not having rounds but he recovers quickly enough to have his hand raised in the center of the ring as his name is announced.

Butterbean defeated Ron Reese in 9:46 by pinfall.

Before the final match of the evening, Mike Awesome makes his entrance and storms to the ring. He grabs a microphone and begins running his mouth. Awesome begins running down the "losers" in the crowd, belittling individual fans in the front row. He says that if the fans want to turn things around, they should bet on him but even then that'll be the only time they'll win. Then he turns his tirade on his opponent for the night, Chris Chavis. Awesome calls him a "Fake Indian looking for some casino money."

You can tell that Awesome was having a great time going off on the crowd. He got the crowd super hot against himself with his personal insults towards the crowd.

Chris Chavis vs Mike Awesome

1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit

While Awesome continues his rant, The War Eagle's music hits and Chavis makes his way to the ring, wearing his traditional headdress and regalia. Awesome throws the microphone to the ground and begins gesturing Chavis to the ring. Chavis stops just before the ring to remove his entrance gear but this just gives Awesome the opportunity to dive over the top rope, taking Chavis out immediately. Awesome slides Chavis in the ring and the bell sounds, starting the match. Awesome tries for an early pinfall but is only able to get a 2 count.

Awesome continues controlling the early part of the bout, a lot of hammering blows and teeth shattering slams but Chavis is able to fight through and continue with the match. Chavis tries to turn the tide with some tomahawk chops but Awesome cuts him off before he can get any momentum going.

Awesome continues with his battering ways until Chavis is able to get an irish whip reversal and hit Awesome with a powerful scoop slam. Chavis continues with tomahawk chop after tomahawk chop before launching Awesome into the ropes. Chavis looks to pick up Awesome for huge Samoan Drop but Awesome hits a big knee instead. Chavis reels back but Awesome grabs him and slams him to the mat with huge Awesome Bomb. Awesome makes the lateral press and gets the pinfall victory.

Chavis rolls out of the ring and makes his way to the back, slapping hands. Awesome stands tall in the ring, celebrating his victory to end the show.

Chavis started off pretty well but gassed towards the end of the match. Awesome, on the other hand, looked great through the entire match. Awesome put the match on his shoulders and carried it well.

Mike Awesome defeated Chris Chavis in 21:52 by pinfall.

This time around, Steele is teaming with the newly signed Damien Stone, fresh off the plane from an ongoing tour in Japan. Both men come to the ring together, Steele in his Union Jack singlet and Stone decked out in the red, white and green. Their opponents are the team of CW Anderson and the new-look Adam Pearce. Pearce has taken the styling of his partner Anderson, the simple, black attire and the close cropped hair. To go with the new look comes a new name as Anderson and Pearce are now collectively known as <strong>The Spinebusters</strong></p><p> </p><p> As the match begins, it's obvious that Pearce is not used to the new look as he continues to flip nonexistent hair out of the way on instinct. Hopefully, for his sake, this was the reason he just wasn't as crisp as he could be for this match. The team of the Spinebusters seemed to have been working together since the last show as their teamwork was more on point with less communication errors, taking to task the weaker of their two opponents, Steele. It was very clear that Damien Stone was the best wrestler of the four any time he was in the ring. He took control of both Anderson and Pearce with an ease that was clearly upsetting The Spinebusters. </p><p> </p><p> The four men pulled out all the stops during this match and the crowd was appreciative of the effort, even though they didn't care for any man individually. </p><p> </p><p> The match came to an end as Stone makes the tag and begins flying around the ring, hitting both Pearce and Anderson with forearms. A huge shot sends Pearce to the floor and Stone focuses on the legal Anderson. After getting the upper hand, he attempts an irish whip that gets reversed. First to the ring is the Houston native, Shawn Hernandez. Decked out with Mexican regalia, Hernandez flexes as he makes his way down the rampway. Kevin Greene is out next, to a great reaction of the crowd. In maroon and gold gear, Greene is repping his current team affiliation as he gives high fives down the entrance. Greene enters the ring and begins to happily play to the crowd before Hernandez grabs his arm and spins him around. Hernandez begins running him down, yelling about how Greene doesn't deserve to be in the same ring as the amazing, powerful, future of this business...Greene cuts him short with a double-leg takedown followed by short arm strikes. The referee pulls them apart and sending them into their corners so he can begin the match.</p><p> </p><p> The match is a solid bout between two big guys trying to get the upper hand through their strength. Most of the match is a fight of oneupmanship, Hernandez doing a power spot, followed by Greene doing the same spot. The match stays at a plotting pace but gives both men time to shine.</p><p> </p><p> The finish of the match comes when both men go chop for chop, followed up by forearm for forearm which ends with Hernandez getting dazed. Greene bounces off the ropes and levels Hernandez with a shoulder tackle. Greene turns and stands in the corner, hyping the crowd and calling for Hernandez to get to his feet. As he does and turns towards around, Greene cuts Hernandez in half with a spear to the midsection. Greene makes the pinfall and get the victory.</p><p> </p><p> Greene stands to a good reaction from the crowd and celebrates as the referee raises his arm. Greene makes his way to ringside and starts shaking hands on his way to the back.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="QDBmU1a.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QDBmU1a.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Kevin Greene defeated Shawn Hernandez in 12:59 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="GEPA7Ez.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GEPA7Ez.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="iQWjLbT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iQWjLbT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> In a <strong>NWA Home Video Exclusive</strong>, we go backstage find Tully Blanchard entering the venue, bags in hand. The camera operator begins asking Tully questions about his return to the NWA and how he thinks he'll fair in his First Round match against the younger Charlie Haas. Before he gets in depth with his answer, Haas enters the frame. The two men study each other before Haas offers his hand, in search of a handshake. Hass tells Blanchard that it is an honor to be able to face a legend like Tully with an opportunity to become NWA World Heavyweight Champion, but he's sorry that he'll be cutting Blanchard's return short to do so.</p><p> </p><p> Blanchard smirks as he shakes Haas' hand, rebutting by reminding Charlie that, while he may be older, he's still the man that ran rough shot over the NWA with the Four Horsemen. Tully continues by running down his accomplishments, emphasizing his World Television and World Tag Championships. Tully ends by saying, "Thanks, son. I appreciate the respect and the set of balls you got, but start thinking about who you want to wrestle next show, because it won't be a part of this tournament. That much, I know."</p><p> </p><p> Tully did his damnedest to make this vignette interesting but Haas is a charisma vacuum that just can't help but drag the quality down. Unfortunately, nothing that Haas says feels legit and it looks even worse next to Blanchard.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="bqdshiF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bqdshiF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> First Round Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="cDTLz7c.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cDTLz7c.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="TrNTlMq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TrNTlMq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Horace Boulder vs Scott Putski</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> In the second match of the tournament for the night, we have two men with a high standard to live up to as the relatives of true legends going head to head. First out is the solidly built Horace Boulder. In gear reminiscent of an ice cold rattlesnake, Boulder storms to the ring, barking at the crowd and threatening anyone who yells back. He slides in the ring and yells towards the hard cam. Next one out is Scott Putski. With an unruly mane of hair, great physique, and long gold cape around his shoulders, Putski makes his way to the ring, trying to stay as far from the crowd as possible. He gets to the ring and begins to show off his body after whipping off his cape. </p><p> </p><p> The match is an odd fitting as the crowd didn't want to cheer either man and neither man wanted the crowd on their side. The crowd pretty much booed the entire match but they were still reacting which is pretty impressive. Even though the crowd was into the match, neither man is "good" in the ring. The match was primarily strikes and slams with a bit of walk-and-brawl on the outside. The referee gave a lot of freedom to these men as they cheated against each other for most of the match. </p><p> </p><p> The ending comes as both men are starting to show signs of tiring as Horace is about be slammed by Putski but Horace gives him an eyepoke. Putski turns, selling the eye, as the referee gives in to Boulder. Boulder screams at Armstrong that he's tired of his bullshit so he charges at Putski and levels him with a Lariat to the back of head. Boulder rolls over Putski and lays on top with a nonchalant cover that gets the victory.</p><p> </p><p> Boulder stands and starts doing the belt taunt, screaming about "My World Title" before making his way up the entrance ramp.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="cDTLz7c.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cDTLz7c.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Horace Boulder defeated Scott Putski in 17:50 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="BBf0ADE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BBf0ADE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> First Round Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="iQWjLbT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iQWjLbT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Tully Blanchard vs Charlie Haas</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Following the big, bad brothers brawling, the next match is as far the other way you could go. First out is the veteran, "The Stallion" Tully Blanchard, who gets a great reaction from the crowd as he makes his way down the ramp. In classic blue tights and a Four Horsemen shirt, Blanchard high fives the crowd before getting into the ring. Blanchard gets into his corner and begins to stretch as he awaits his opponent. Charlie Haas makes his way to the ring next. In traditional amateur wrestling gear, Haas stoically makes his way to the ring but does have in a look of nervousness in his eyes. Haas enters the ring and circles the interior, hoping sideways around until he stop in his corner. The referee asks both men if they're ready and asks for the bell to ring.</p><p> </p><p> The match starts with Blanchard taking the lead, getting the advantage over the rookie Haas. Blanchard is able to always be one step ahead of Haas, only occasionally using dirty tactics as he does so. As the match continues, Haas gets more and more frustrated but continues his technical wrestling ways, not allowing himself to fall into the trap that Blanchard is trying to pull him into. Tully tries to get the victory multiple times early on the match but Haas is able to get out of every submission attempt and kicking out of every pinfall. When the match breaks the twenty minute mark, it's obvious that the younger Haas keeping up with Tully and starting to pull ahead as the veteran starts to tire out. </p><p> </p><p> The match comes to an end as Blanchard has Haas ready for a slingshot suplex. After he bounces Haas off the top rope, Haas is able to twist in the air and get behind Tully. Haas grabs Blanchard around the waist and launches him over head with a beautiful german suplex. Haas capitalizes by grabbing Tully's legs and locking in the Haas of Pain forcing Blanchard to submit. Haas releases the hold as soon as the bell rings and drops to his knees, holding his face in his hands.</p><p> </p><p> Haas jumps to his feet and goes to celebrate but stops himself to help Tully to his feet first. Haas and Tully shake hands and Blanchard raises the arm of Haas, getting the crowd behind Haas before leaving the ring and Charlie to celebrate alone.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Charlie Haas defeated Tully Blanchard in 25:08 by submission.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="X4xWi2b.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/X4xWi2b.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="LPBY2Tc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LPBY2Tc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="YywakL9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YywakL9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> As Haas makes his way to the back, Jake Roberts comes through the curtain, toting his large bag over his shoulder. The crowd goes crazy at the sight of The Snake, giving him the biggest reaction of the night so far. As Roberts makes his way to the ring, he starts leaning to the side that he has the bag on. There is obviously something not quite right with Roberts as he attempts to get into the ring, there is a bit of sloppiness in his step. </p><p> </p><p> Roberts grabs at the microphone and the second he begins to speak, everything becomes clear. Roberts is obviously on something as he begins ranting into the microphone. The only thing that saves any of this is that Roberts has such a natural on the microphone that, even through the slurring, he has the crowd completely involved. </p><p> </p><p> Roberts begins going off on any thing and everything, The National Wrestling Alliance, The World Title, the WWF and WCW, before finally focusing on his opponent. Roberts begins calling out The Masked Marvel, demanding that he gets his ass to the ring. Roberts is staring down the rampway as Marvel slides in the ring from the other side of the room. Marvel forearms Roberts from the back as the referee begins the match.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Qb9LcES.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Qb9LcES.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> First Round Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="YywakL9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YywakL9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="LPBY2Tc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LPBY2Tc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>The Masked Marvel vs Jake Roberts</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The match is dominated early on by The Masked Marvel, keeping the pressure on The Snake and not allowing him to get to his feet. Even though Roberts is completely wasted and probably shouldn't even be in the ring, he is so over with the fans that they continue to scream his name and cheer for him to get to his feet. Even though he's masked, it's obvious that Marvel is pretty pissed off about Roberts. </p><p> </p><p> The match comes to it's end as Marvel has to lead Roberts into the finish where Roberts grabs for and hits the DDT. For some reason, however, Roberts doesn't go for the pinfall but instead goes to lock in an sloppy arm submission that Marvel submits to before Roberts finishes locking it in.</p><p> </p><p> The bell rings and Marvel immediately rolls out and goes up the ramp to the back. Roberts gets to his feet, looking upset that Marvel had left the ring. Roberts goes and grabs his bag. Roberts begins showing off the snake to the fans as the show ends.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="LPBY2Tc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LPBY2Tc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Jake Roberts defeated The Masked Marvel in 12:32 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="BBf0ADE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BBf0ADE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Show Rating</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="GEPA7Ez.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GEPA7Ez.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Thanks for your input, <strong>Neighborhood Editor</strong>. Charlie Haas vs Terry Funk

Mike Awesome vs Kevin Greene

Butterbean vs Horace Boulder

Jake Roberts vs Marty Jannetty

I little bummed we won't be having Funk-Blanchard in the tournament, but having that big Haas upset feels like a cool moment reminiscent of the Crockett NWA days.

As for The Snake, not really surprised he was "out of shape," just another reason why I don't think he would or should make it far in the tourney.

Safe to say I've found a new favorite diary :D

The crowd continues to be apathetic towards Storm but continue to be positive towards Harris. </p><p> </p><p> Their opponents this evening are making their professional wrestling debut. Announced as Bull and Ox, <strong>The Shane Twins</strong> make their way through the curtain and charge down the rampway. The two big, bald identical twins try to intimidate the crowd by screaming and flexing towards the front row but the fans don't completely buy that they'd actually do anything. As the Twins make it to the ring, they slide in, immediately charge AMW and all four men begin brawling before the match begins. Bull tosses Storm out of the ring and follows, allowing the match to begin. </p><p> </p><p> The match is tough to watch as the four men are green as goose shit and no one has the experience to keep the match as tight as it could be. Bull and Ox spend the match showing off their strength with impressive lifts but sloppy slams and suplexes. Storm and Harris are crisper than the Shanes but that's like saying they are more sober than Jake Roberts, it's not that impressive. The match continues with AMW using double team moves to take down the Shanes and both Shanes bowling though AMW individually. </p><p> </p><p> In the final minute of the scheduled time, AMW pick up the speed and start putting the pressure on the Twins. Ox tries to help out his brother Bull by coming into the ring to clothesline Storm from behind but Harris leaps over the top rope and tackles Ox out of the ring. Bull watches his brother gets thrown from the ring which allows Storm to set up and hit the 8 Second Ride, getting the pinfall victory.</p><p> </p><p> America's Most Wanted begin to celebrate their victory to a relatively quite crowd but they're starting to get more of the fans on their side. The Shane Twins make their way to back, licking their wounds but continue to curse out the fans until they go through the curtains.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="0orJ4NO.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0orJ4NO.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="jRR0Nhn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jRR0Nhn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>America's Most Wanted defeated The Shane Twins in 14:43 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="bqdshiF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bqdshiF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> Second Round Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="coIdgoc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/coIdgoc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Terry Funk vs Charlie Haas</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The next match of the night begins with the opening strains of the theme music of <strong>Terry Funk</strong> which gets the fans' interested after the previous borefest. Funk bursts through the curtain, decked out in his red and black poncho, wielding a branding iron that he spins around his head. Funk walks around the ring, playing up to the crowd before getting into the ring. Funk continues hyping the crowd as <strong>Charlie Haas</strong> begins his entrance. Haas comes to the ring in stark contrast to Funk, completely silent while staring directly ahead with a look of determination across his face. As Haas enters the ring, Funk brings the fight to him and gets the match underway.</p><p> </p><p> Funk keeps the pressure on Haas early, trying to overwhelm the younger wrestler with heavy strikes but Haas is able to counter the veteran with quick takedowns and suplexes. Haas is able to get the upper hand by using his amateur wrestling skills to ground Funk which upsets the former World Champion so much that he takes a breather on the outside. While he's out there, Funk starts screaming that Haas can't outwrestle him and that he can do the mat wrestling too. Funk gets back into the ring and the two men begin going hold for hold but Haas is able to tire out the Funker enough to get the Haas of Pain locked in. Terry tries to wiggle and shake and do anything he can to get out but ultimately he's unable hold out and submits to the shock of the crowd.</p><p> </p><p> Funk and Haas have a hell of a match where Haas shows that he's capable of keeping up with the proven commodity, Terry Funk.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Charlie Haas defeated Terry Funk in 9:52 by submission.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="X4xWi2b.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/X4xWi2b.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="coIdgoc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/coIdgoc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Charlie Haas</strong> is kneeling on the mat with a look of shock on his face. <strong>Terry Funk</strong> pulls himself into the corner of the ring and begins shaking his leg, trying to shake the pain away. Haas stands up and allows the referee to raise his arm as his name is announced as the winner. Haas sees Funk trying to pull himself to his feet and tries to help him up. Funk pushes Hass away, cursing him out as he stands on his own. Funk hobbles over to the announcer and rips the microphone from his hand. Funk begins yelling, repeatedly screaming "Haas!" before telling him that he has beaten two NWA legends in back to back weeks. Funk tells Haas that he has their legacies on his shoulders now so he better finish this and become the next NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Funk tosses the microphone to the ground before rolling out of the ring.</p><p> </p><p> The NWA seems to have figured out a way to keep Haas from ruining segments, by not letting him talk in public at all. Funk had another crazy Funk promo that the fans absolutely loved.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="X4xWi2b.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/X4xWi2b.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="AKUlvip.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AKUlvip.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="AiK5Od3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AiK5Od3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="3NcapWH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3NcapWH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NzOQKQL.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NzOQKQL.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Damien Stone & Gary Steele vs TJ Andrews & Ron Reese</strong></p><p> One Fall - 15 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> To follow the first tournament match of the evening is another tag team bout. First, the team of Damien Stone and Gary Steele, announced as <strong>Stone & Steele</strong>, come through the curtain and made their way down the ramp. After his last two performances, the fans are beginning to buy into Steele as a favorite. Steele is starting to get a decent reaction from the crowd, not quite the level as his partner but better than his precious showings. Their opponents for this bout are <strong>TJ Andrews and Ron Reese</strong>, two of the largest men in the National Wrestling Alliance. Both men jawjack on the way to the ring, showing off their bodies. As both men get into the ring, they continue to show off how big they are compared to their opponents, especially Stone.</p><p> </p><p> The match gets started and the team of Stone & Steele use their technical prowess to keep their bigger opponents on their toes. Unfortunately, for Stone, no one else in the match could really keep up with him so he shines compared to the other men. And as great as Stone looked, both Steele and Reese looked as bad. Reese couldn't get out of his own way and nothing he did looked smooth. Steele tried to mix his different martial arts backgrounds but nothing melded the way he had been hoping. Luckily, for the fans' sake, Andrews was able to keep up with Stone somewhat, making the only watchable portions in the match. </p><p> </p><p> The match came to its final moments as, with thirty seconds remaining in the time limit, Stone is able to lock in the Sicillian Crab on the giant Reese. As the time ran down, Reese pulls Stone towards the ropes and Stone pulls back into the center of the ring. Back and forth, until Stone is able to get back into the center and tighten the hold until Reese finally gives in with only seven seconds until the time limit. </p><p> </p><p> Stone & Steele bail up the rampway after the match is over and celebrate on the stage before heading back through the curtain.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="AKUlvip.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AKUlvip.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="AiK5Od3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AiK5Od3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Stone & Steele defeated TJ Andrews and Ron Reese in 14:53 by submission.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="GEPA7Ez.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GEPA7Ez.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> Second Round Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="QDBmU1a.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QDBmU1a.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="dCf2Wwi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dCf2Wwi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Kevin Greene vs Mike Awesome</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The next match of the night is between <strong>Kevin Greene</strong> and <strong>Mike Awesome</strong>. Both men make their ways to the ring to a tremendous reaction, cheers for Greene and boos for Awesome. These two men do a phenomenal job getting the fans involved, getting everyone in the room yelling and screaming even before the match begins. And in that match, these two powerful behemoths show off their strength and speed as they take no shortcuts at all. Awesome does his normal, throwing-his-opponent-until-they-stop-breathing style while Greene takes everything that Awesome throws at him and gets back up every time. Greene is able to get the upper hand and toss Awesome around. The crowd is completely into everything these men are doing as Greene gets tossed over the top rope to the outside and as he's getting back to his feet, Awesome planchas over and lands directly on top of the football great.</p><p> </p><p> The match can't keep this pace forever so as they are back in the ring, Greene is able to toss Awesome into the corner and goes for a full speed Spear but Awesome leaps over the charging linebacker, causing Greene to go head first into a turnbuckle. Awesome grabs Greene, lifts him into the air, and smashes Greene into the ground with an Awesome Bomb, for the victory. </p><p> </p><p> Awesome stands triumphantly above the battered Greene and yells at the crowd while gesturing to a belt around his waist. </p><p> </p><p> The crowd went absolutely bonkers for this match and it is to the credit of both men that the crowd was so invested. Awesome definitely took the lead during the match and he set the pace for Greene to follow. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dCf2Wwi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dCf2Wwi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Mike Awesome defeated Kevin Greene in 12:58 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="hvvDjFJ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hvvDjFJ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> Second Round Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="cDTLz7c.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cDTLz7c.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="id60VqQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/id60VqQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Horace Boulder vs Butterbean</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Horace Boulder</strong> makes his way to ring as Awesome makes his way out and they fist bump as they pass. Boulder gets into the ring, feeding off the heat that Awesome's win created. Boulder keeps yelling as <strong>Butterbean</strong> and his entourage make their way to the ring. Butterbean is all business, completely stoic compared to yelling nonsense of Awesome and Boulder. Butterbean makes his way into the ring and stands in his corner as Boulder starts trying to goad Butterbean before the bell rings but Butterbean doesn't bite.</p><p> </p><p> As the match begins, the two men start by circling the ring with Boulder mocking Butterbean by throwing jabs, pretending that he's Muhammad Ali but Butterbean surprises him with a double leg takedown before raining elbows to his head. The story of the match is that Butterbean has been working on his ground game, completely catching Boulder off guard. Boulder tries to turn the tide of the match but Butterbean is able to keep the momentum going.</p><p> </p><p> Butterbean ends up gasing out as Boulder is not easily put away. Butterbean is breathing very heavy as the match comes to an end, where Boulder and Butterbean and standing face to face, going forearm strike for forearm strike until Butterbean lands an open palm strike to the jaw of Boulder knocking him off of his feet. Butterbean is able to pick up the pinfall victory as Boulder is essentially knocked out cold.</p><p> </p><p> The fans were behind Butterbean the entire time, even when the match lost its way a few times.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="id60VqQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/id60VqQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Butterbean defeated Horace Boulder in 16:34 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="BBf0ADE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BBf0ADE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="qp4pnQb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qp4pnQb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The Main Event of the evening is about to begin as <strong>Marty Jannetty</strong> makes his way out to the stage. In his day-glo gear, he babyfaces his way down the ramp and around the ring before making his way under the ropes and into the ring. Marty is handed the microphone by the announcer and begins hyping the crowd. Jannetty thanks the crowd for supporting the National Wrestling Alliance as they rebuild, calling the fans the foundation that the new history of the NWA will be built upon. Jannetty continues with cliche, babyface catchphrases but it works and it gets the crowd on Jannetty's side, at least until...</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="LPBY2Tc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LPBY2Tc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jake Roberts</strong> bursts through the curtain. The crowd just can't help but love Roberts. His natural charisma just washes over the entire crowd but, luckily for him, the stench of alcohol coming from him is reserved only for the special few in the front row. Roberts makes his way to the ring, grabbing a microphone as he does. It's sad to watch Roberts as he begins to speak because even in his inebriated state, he's entirely engaging with an ability to suck even the most jaded fan into his words. Jannetty and Roberts continue to banter for a bit with Roberts coming out ahead before agreeing to get the final match of the Second Round of the NWA World Heavyweight Tournament underway. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="i8ruFB4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/i8ruFB4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> Second Round Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="qp4pnQb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qp4pnQb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="LPBY2Tc.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/LPBY2Tc.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Marty Jannetty vs Jake Roberts</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Jannetty</strong> and <strong>Roberts</strong> get the Main Event started with some back and forth wrestling but Roberts can't quite keep up with the speed of Jannetty. Jannetty is forced to take the lead in the match as Roberts is in no mind to do so. What's saddest is, exactly like the promo, Roberts is still capable of having the best match of the night even in his condition. He's the best of the night in getting the crowd 100 percent into the match and thankfully, Roberts began pulling some dirty tricks from his bag allowing Jannetty to get the cheers through out the bout. The match went for a decent amount of time as Jannetty did the majority of the work to make the match as great as it was.</p><p> </p><p> The match came to an end as Jannetty hit a Rocker Dropper on Roberts. Roberts didn't take the Dropper very well but still was pinned for the Jannetty victory. </p><p> </p><p> It was obvious that Jannetty wasn't thrilled with Roberts but still helped him to his feet to celebrate with the crowd to give them a good goodbye. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="qp4pnQb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qp4pnQb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Marty Jannetty defeated Jake Roberts in 17:13 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="hvvDjFJ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hvvDjFJ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Show Rating</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="i8ruFB4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/i8ruFB4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p>

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;">Excerpts from the February 9 1998 Wrestling Observer Newsletter</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>It looks like <strong>Jake Roberts</strong> has made his last appearance for the National Wrestling Alliance. Roberts came out for a promo and a match with Marty Jannetty obviously under the influence of something for the second appearence in a row with them. When he came back through the curtain as the show was over, <strong>Dana White</strong> met him at the curtain and got into another screaming match. Roberts decided to ignore the red-faced White and grabbed his bags before getting into a car and leaving. From what our sources have reported, Roberts was only on a two appearance deal, so he was done that night regardless of what happened.</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><ul><li>Additionally, it appears that <strong>Terry Funk</strong> is also done with the NWA as Funk told White that he didn't want to be tied down to a long term deal. Even though he didn't plan on being around for long, Funk still was a tremendous help backstage including taking <strong>James Storm</strong> under his wing and helping him get over with the crowd.</li></ul><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" That has always been my thought process when it comes to guys who I don't see a long future in. Especially with the appearances tab where you can put directly in there that they're only going to have two appearances for example, it makes it nice that I don't have to worry about firing a guy and risking a negative relationship when I get done with the short story I have with them. Terry Funk is the perfect example of that. </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Dcyd" data-cite="Dcyd" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Side question, are you using the NGO pick pack or a different one?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Honestly, I'm not sure. Kelly begins running down the men who have made it to the final four. Kelly introduces each man and the video cuts to montages for each man.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="id60VqQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/id60VqQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Butterbean</strong> is seen in a small boxing gym. Additionally, he says that he's had some difficulties adjusting to wrestling but he'll show tonight that he's got what it takes to become the NWA World Champion.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Charlie Haas</strong> is the next shown. Tremendous feats of strength as Awesome does bench presses, deadlifts, pull ups with extra weight, ect. His segment ends with him performing a deadlift with a huge bar that's bending from the weight. Awesome drops the weight to the ground with a huge crash, screaming towards the camera. He charges the camera, grabs it, puts his face very close before yelling, <strong>IT'S MINE</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="qp4pnQb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qp4pnQb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Finally, the video cuts to <strong>Marty Jannetty</strong> stepping into a wrestling ring in some wrestling school. Jannetty starts by running the ropes as his voice comes over, talking about how he has had opportunities in the past but he has always gotten in his own way. Jannetty is shown sparing with some students as he says he saw his potential future earlier in the tournament and he's trying his damnedest not to be that. Jannetty says that he knows that when he wins the NWA World Championship, he'll have the one thing he's needed to prove himself to himself. Jannetty says that he's going to prove that he is one of the best in the world. His segment ends with Jannetty hitting the Rocker Dropper on a few students in a row. Jannetty stands in the center of the ring, breathing heavily a bit but with a look of determination on his face.</p><p> </p><p> The video ends with a final minute of cutting back and forth between the four men. Damien and Gary make their way out to the stage and the crowd continues cheering but at a lesser amount. Stone and Steele make their way to the ring and it's pretty clear that Gary has grown much more comfortable since his team with Damien started. It appears that he's found his place for now.</p><p> </p><p> As they get into the ring, the loud and clashing music of <strong>The Shane Twins</strong> entrance begins and Ox and Bull make thier way out to a mostly quiet room. They flex and show off their physiques to a small smattering of boos before making their way to the ring. </p><p> </p><p> This match begins and it is very obvious that the Twins didn't get much better in the time between the two shows. Their moves remain sloppy and their movements are very out of place. Ox was especially bad this week. He seemed to have lost confidence in himself in the first few minutes of the match when he tried to suplex Stone but Stone nearly landed on his head when Ox didn't rotate him enough. Stone gave him a receipt directly afterwards with a stiff shot to the mouth that busted Ox's lip. The match continued with the Shanes getting a lot of quick tags followed by powerful strikes and slams to Stone as Steele is forced to watch helplessly. Stone almost gets the tag on few occasions but the much larger Shanes easily drag him back to their side of the ring to continue to batter him. </p><p> </p><p> The finish of the match comes as Stone is able to get himself loose from Ox, runs the ropes and hits a powerful Shotgun Dropkick, sending Ox to the outside. Stone crawls to his corner as Bull enters the ring but Stone tags Steele first and Steele runs wild with clothesline after clothesline to Bull. Steele tosses Bull from the ring as Ox reenters groggily. Ox takes a swing at Steele, who ducks and grabs Ox around the waist. Steele hits a very rough German Suplex, bridging into a pin for the victory. </p><p> </p><p> Damien Stone remains the star of his match as he made the Shanes look as good as they possibly could look. The sight of the small Stone being thrown around the ring by the Twins made them look like beasts. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="AKUlvip.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AKUlvip.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="AiK5Od3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AiK5Od3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Stone & Steele defeated The Shane Twins in 12:40 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="BBf0ADE.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/BBf0ADE.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> Semi Final Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="id60VqQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/id60VqQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="dCf2Wwi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dCf2Wwi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Butterbean vs Mike Awesome</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 45 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> As Stone & Steele stand on the stage celebrating, <strong>Mike Awesome</strong> burst through the curtain and hits Stone with a huge boot. Before he can even react, Steele is hit with a powerful lariat by Awesome, leaving him laid out on the stage as well. Awesome makes his way to the ring, sans music, to a course of boos before ripping the microphone from the hand of the ring announcer. He screams into it for Butterbean to get his ass in the ring because he's ready. Awesome tosses the microphone to the ground and gets into the ring. After a few moments of nothing, Awesome begins pacing but he begins to smile as <strong>Butterbean</strong> makes his way through the curtain. Butterbean gets a great reaction from the crowd as he walks down the entrance ramp with his trainers. As he makes his way to ringside, Awesome attempts to get the fight started early with a suicide dive but Butterbean is able to get out of the way as his trainers take the full weight of the flying Awesome. Butterbean starts landing stiff shots to the back of Awesome before pulling him to his feet. Awesome begins throwing wild haymakers as Butterbean lands powerful punches before they get into the ring and the referee gets the match started.</p><p> </p><p> Even though it was announced for a 45 minute time limit, there is no way that these two men were going to be able to keep this pace for very long but the crowd loved every minute that they got out of these two. The match was a crazy back and forth, strike and slams, big man bout that came to an end after Referee Scott Armstrong tried to warn Butterbean about his closed fists but Awesome pulls Armstrong aside and demands that Butterbean hit him in his <strong>God Damned Mouth</strong>. The two men take the hardest shots that the other could give before Awesome takes a shot that makes him stumble back but he's able to recover enough to kick Butterbean's head near off. Both men go down as the crowd begins cheering for Butterbean to get to his feet but both men are able to get to their feet before the ten count. Awesome is able to give Butterbean a kick to the gut before lifting him up and slamming him to the ground with an Awesome Bomb. But before he goes for the pinfall, Awesome lifts Butterbean from the ground back into the air and slams him again with a second Awesome Bomb before collapsing on top of the bruising boxer for the 1, 2, 3.</p><p> </p><p> Awesome was able to bring out the best that Butterbean has to offer. These two guys put on a hard hitting, big man match that could rival what you see on those Japanese shows, easily. Awesome showed that he belongs in the conversation as the best in the NWA right now. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dCf2Wwi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dCf2Wwi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Mike Awesome defeated Butterbean in 8:13 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="hvvDjFJ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hvvDjFJ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament</strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong> Semi Final Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="qp4pnQb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qp4pnQb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="p3vyEbg.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/p3vyEbg.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Marty Jannetty vs Charlie Haas</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 45 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The next bout is set to begin as <strong>Marty Jannetty</strong> makes his way through the curtain. A little more subdued tonight, his ring gear is not quite as bright and has a lot less tassels than his previous NWA appearances. Jannetty comes to the ring with a fire in his eyes and look of determination. He doesn't break eye contact with the ring as he slaps the hands of the fans at ringside. Jannetty slides in under the bottom rope, pops to his feet, and runs the ropes a few times before getting into his corner to stretch as his opponent makes his way to the ring. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Charlie Haas</strong> is the next man out but this time he's not alone. The man that he sparred against in his training video appears to be in his corner tonight. That man is announced as Charlie's brother, <strong>Russ Haas</strong>, who has recently signed with the NWA. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="zC5VaiP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/zC5VaiP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The two men make their way down to the ring, with Russ quietly talking to Charlie in his ear as he begins to hop down the ramp, eager to get this match started. Charlie hops up on the apron as Russ makes his way up the stairs into the ring. Both men enter and Jannetty meets them in the center of it. Referee Armstrong steps up to make sure the match doesn't get started before the bell again but Jannetty simply shakes the hands of both Haas brothers and returns to his corner. Charlie and Russ embrace and they exchange a few more words before Russ takes his place ringside. Russ squats so that his head is barely visible above the apron, quietly observing. </p><p> </p><p> Armstrong assures both men are ready and calls for the bell. The second Semi-Finals match for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament has officially begun. These two men start off the match at an even tempo, neither man ready to ramp it up quite yet. Haas is the first to try to pick up the speed but is cut short by the veteran Jannetty, who grinds Haas to a halt with a side headlock. Jannetty keeps the bout at a slower pace while trying to wear the young man down, forcing Haas to use his energy just to get out of quick pinfalls and smothering submissions. </p><p> </p><p> Haas is finally able to get the upper hand and begins to get quick suplexes off, tossing Jannetty around the ring. Haas keeps up the pace with punishing slams into submissions that he changes up quickly to keep the veteran off his guard. Haas is able to keep the pressure until Jannetty gets loose of a slam attempt but instead of trying to slow the match back down, The Rocker cranks the speed up and starts flying around the ring. He is able to disorient Haas which leads to the finishing sequence. </p><p> </p><p> After cresting the 25 minute mark, Marty starts throwing everything he can at the youngster. Haas looks to be completely flustered, unable to catch his breath at the speed the bout has gotten too. Marty hits a superkick to the side of the head of Haas and as he attempts to get to his feet, Jannetty hits a stiff Rocker Dropper that keeps Haas down, giving Jannetty the pinfall victory. </p><p> </p><p> After the pinfall is counted, Jannetty jumps to his feet and begins celebrating before helping Haas to his feet. He says something into the ear of the newcomer before waving Russ into the ring. Jannetty holds up the arm of Charlie before the Haas' graciously leave the ring, letting Jannetty to have his moment. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="qp4pnQb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qp4pnQb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Marty Jannetty defeated Charlie Haas in 26:24 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="hvvDjFJ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/hvvDjFJ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="3NcapWH.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3NcapWH.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NzOQKQL.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NzOQKQL.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="cDTLz7c.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/cDTLz7c.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="QDBmU1a.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QDBmU1a.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>TJ Andrews and Ron Reese vs Horace Boulder and Kevin Greene</strong></p><p> One Fall - 20 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The next match up is a tag team affair as the team of <strong>TJ Andrews</strong> and <strong>Ron Reese</strong> make their entrance. Debuting their new team moniker, <strong>The Titans</strong>, Andrews and Reese seem hyped to get their opportunity at their first victory as a team. After they make their way into the ring, they also debut their new signature pose as Andrews strikes a chest and abs pose with the larger Reese standing behind him flexing his arms towards the ceiling like he's reaching for the stars. It's not as impressive as they though it would look.</p><p> </p><p> Their opponents for the evening make their way our individually. First is <strong>Horace Boulder</strong>, who makes his way out to a course of boos but bathes in it like it is nourishing him. He loves the jeers from the fairly vocal crowd. Before he can make it to the ringside, however, the entrance music cuts to that of his partner for the evening, <strong>Kevin Greene</strong>. Greene makes his entrance to the support of the Las Vegas crowd but over top of the crowd is the taunting of Boulder, upset that his entrance was cut short. They meet at the bottom of the ramp and Greene tries to shake the hand of Boulder but Horace pulls his hand away at the last moment to rub his fingers through his bald scalp. Boulder laughs at himself as he walks away from Greene, who is left shaking his head in disbelief.</p><p> </p><p> The match gets started as Boulder takes his place on the apron and begins yelling at Kevin to get the match started with the Giant Reese. The match is your standard affair but the crowd gets into it because of the interactions between Greene and Boulder. The entire match is punchy-kicky with some pretty good looking slams from Greene to Andrews that gets a decent reaction from the crowd. This pisses Boulder off so much that he demands to get into the match and does a similar slam that doesn't get the same reaction. The back and forth, trying to show the other up between Boulder and Greene upset The Titans who essentially get forgotten in the match, which for Reese can only be a good thing as he was just awful through out. </p><p> </p><p> This match only went anywhere near the time limit because of the Boulder/Greene nonsense but it came to an end as Greene and Boulder begins pushing and shoving each other until Reese and Andrews both begin to charge. Greene and Boulder turn towards the charging Titans, Greene hits Reese with a spear and Boulder hits Andrews with a huge lariat. Greene rolls onto the apron so that Boulder can get the pinfall victory.</p><p> </p><p> Boulder gets to his feet as Greene jumps down from the apron and begins making his way to the back. The first man out is <strong>The Masked Marvel</strong> to the general disinterest of the crowd. Decked in a long blue robe, Marvel glides down to the ring. While doing so, Marvel looks at the crowd with distain in his eyes. He steps into the ring and calls Armstrong over to help him remove his robe and yells at him to hand it over to the ring attendant. Marvel takes his corner and begins stretching as his opponent enters.</p><p> </p><p> The next competitor out is <strong>Shawn Hernandez</strong> who doesn't even pretend to be concerned with the fans as he just charges down the ramp and dives into the ring. Hernandez starts with a clubbing forearm to the back of Marvel and Armstrong is forced to pry Hernandez off before checking in on Marvel. Armstrong calls for the bell and match begins.</p><p> </p><p> This match was awful from beginning to end and nothing worked quite right. Between neither man being a fan favorite and Marvel was not into doing anything to make the match interesting, there was nothing to make the fans care. It was obvious that Marvel was working against Hernandez and the rookie Hernandez didn't know what to do about it. The fans just shat all over this match until Hernandez grabs the Marvel, hits a very sloppy Piledriver and gets the pinfall victory. </p><p> </p><p> Marvel couldn't wait to get out of the ring and was the first one up after the finish. He walks up the ramp and through the curtain, being bombarded by hatred from the fans.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="AVmcWlo.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/AVmcWlo.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Shawn Hernandez defeated The Masked Marvel in 13:39 by pinfall.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="bqdshiF.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/bqdshiF.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="iQWjLbT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iQWjLbT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="K2TujSU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/K2TujSU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="OhUIuW0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OhUIuW0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="TrNTlMq.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TrNTlMq.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="jRR0Nhn.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jRR0Nhn.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="0orJ4NO.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/0orJ4NO.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Tully Blanchard and The Spinebusters vs Scott Putski and America's Most Wanted</strong></p><p> One Fall - 30 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> After the nonsense that was the previous match, the next match is a six man tag match where introduced first is the team of <strong>The Spinebusters</strong> who come out and turn to give props for their teammate for the evening, <strong>Tully Blanchard</strong>. Blanchard leads the two other men down the ramp. Blanchard slaps the hands of the fans in the front row but neither Anderson nor Pearce follow suit, they bark at the fans and avoid their touches like the plague. All three men get into the ring, Blanchard wrangles the 'Busters together in their corner, and begin to strategize with them as their opponents make their entrance.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>America's Most Wanted</strong> are the next out but it is only them at this time. They look back through the curtain and seem to be talking to someone before just blowing it off. Storm and Harris walk down the rampway, making their way to ringside before their music stopped so that <strong>Scott Putski</strong> can make his entrance alone. Putski stands on the stage, demanding all of the attention as he poses. He makes his way down the ramp, blowing right past his teammates for the evening, to jump into the ring and begin to pose in the center of the ring. Harris and Storm shake their heads before getting into the ring to try to speak with their teammate but Putski completely ignores them before stepping out into the apron. </p><p> </p><p> The match begins with Storm and Pearce in the ring, Pearce tries to get the advantage off the bat with some underhanded tactics but Storm is able to counteract each of them, much to the dismay of Pearce. The match continues much in the same way with both of The Spinebusters trying their hardest to impress Blanchard with a lot of old school, less-than-honest techniques but every time that Blanchard gets into the ring with either of the AMW, he stays fairly clean as he show the youngsters that he still is a hell of a wrestler. For the majority of the match, AMW try to keep Putski out of the match, just tagging back and forth between themselves until Putski forces his way in. Putski gets into it with the NWA Legend and starts with the eye pokes and such. </p><p> </p><p> The match comes to an end as the match picks up speed and the Spinebusters and Blanchard get the upper hand. Anderson has a groggy Harris in the center of the ring where he hits a huge Spinebuster but decides to lock in a Figure Four instead of the pinfall. Harris struggles but does submit to give the victory to The Spinebusters and Blanchard.</p><p> </p><p> After the match, Anderson boots Harris from the ring so that he and his team can celebrate. Putski begins berating AMW for losing the match for him. He looks back into the ring and jumps in. He walks up to the Spinebusters and says something into each of their ears before rolling out and heading up the ramp.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="iQWjLbT.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iQWjLbT.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="K2TujSU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/K2TujSU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="OhUIuW0.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/OhUIuW0.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Tully Blanchard and The Spinebusters defeated Scott Putski and America's Most Wanted in 20:20 by submission.</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="GEPA7Ez.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/GEPA7Ez.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="zqNXmpr.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/zqNXmpr.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Kevin Kelly</strong> makes his way to the ring as Blanchard and The Spinebusters make their exit. Kelly enters the ring, makes his way to the center, and faces the hard camera. He begins by thanking the fans for their energy this evening and begins hyping the NWA World Heavyweight Championship match between <strong>Mike Awesome</strong> and <strong>Marty Jannetty</strong> coming up next but first, Kelly tells the fans that the National Wrestling Alliance is proud to announce that they've signed a new world caliber competitor and they've been given some time to speak tonight. He continues to the ring, shakes Kelly's hand, and takes the microphone before Kelly exits, leaving Regal in the ring alone. Regal starts by quieting down the crowd and thanking them for the warm reception. Regal continues by running down his history and his background including his time in Atlanta but tells the crowd that he decided to leave there for two reasons. Firstly, Regal says that he's looking to become the NWA World Heavyweight Championship. Regal name drops Awesome and Jannetty, wishing them both good luck in the night's Main Event but warns them both that sooner rather than later, he'll get his opportunity. Secondly, Regal says that he knows that he will win the Worlds' Heavyweight Championship regardless but says that he knows that he'll give himself the best chance at that by working out with the best wrestlers in the world so he's been scouting every wrestler here tonight. Regal says that he found two wrestlers have shone above all others and he would be inviting them to train together. Regal thanks the crowd again before giving the microphone to the ring announcer and heading back to the curtain, high fiving the fans on the way back. </p><p> </p><p> Regal made a great first impression with the NWA crowd. They loved his surprise entrance and hung on every word he said. </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="QpfUmDa.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/QpfUmDa.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="45656" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="Ha342uU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Ha342uU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Championship Match</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="qp4pnQb.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/qp4pnQb.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> vs <img alt="dCf2Wwi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dCf2Wwi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p> <strong>Marty Jannetty vs Mike Awesome</strong></p><p> 1 Fall - 60 Minute Time Limit</p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> The Main Event is about to begin as both <strong>Marty Jannetty</strong> and <strong>Mike Awesome</strong> standing in their assigned corners as the ring announcer makes the introductions including the NWA President, <strong>Dana White</strong> who will present the NWA World Heavyweight Title to the winner. The crowd is super into it already, cheering loudly as The Rocker is announced and immedietly turning to boos the second the announcer turns his attention to Awesome. After the announcements, the ring is cleared and calmness overtakes the two competitors as the bell rings. </p><p> </p><p> Jannetty starts as the aggressor, trying to catch Awesome off guard with a high octane offense. But it is obvious from the opening minutes that their previous matches in the night already are setting the tone for this bout. Jannetty tires quickly after his over 25 minute tough technical bout but, for the first time since the relaunch of the NWA, there seems to be come chinks in the armor of Awesome. Awesome's body and face are bruised from the barrage from Butterbean so he may be less winded, but every kick from Jannetty to his already battered midsection forces Awesome to pump the brakes a bit. Jannetty tries his best to keep his distance and not allow himself to get wrapped up by the more powerful Awesome and is successful for a time until Awesome is able to side step a huge dropkick from the top rope. Once Jannetty crashes to the mat, Awesome is all over him. With suplexes and slams, Awesome makes sure that Jannetty's body touches every bit of canvas as he whips him around the ring. Marty tries will all of his might to roll out of the ring or to turn in mid air to turn the tables on Awesome, but nothing seems to work.</p><p> </p><p> Awesome looks to end the match by picking up the seemingly lifeless Jannetty for an Awesome Bomb but Jannetty is turn it around into a Rocker Dropper. Jannetty drags himself up to his feet by the ropes and turns to see Awesome back up on a single knee. Jannetty attempts a second Rocker Dropper but Awesome stands with Jannetty on his shoulder and turns him into an Awesome Bomb for the pinfall and the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.</p><p> </p><p> These two men put a tremendous amount of effort into this match and it showed. The crowd was invested the entire way through and had a lot of hope behind Jannetty and the crowd popped huge for the Rocker Dropper. Both men belong in the Main Event. </p><p> </p><p> After the bell rings, the announcer and White enter the ring to announce Awesome as the winner. White helps put the title around the waist of Awesome and shakes his hand before Awesome poses for the photographers now in the ring. The show closes with the fans booing Awesome as he taunts the crowd with the Championship Belt around his waist.</p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="dCf2Wwi.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dCf2Wwi.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p> </p><p> <strong>Mike Awesome defeated Marty Jannetty in 16:26 by pinfall to become the </strong><strong><em>NEW</em></strong><strong> World Heavyweight Champion</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="i8ruFB4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/i8ruFB4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>Show Rating</strong></p><p> </p><p> <img alt="i8ruFB4.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/i8ruFB4.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p>
