CZCW The Next Wave, Saturday Week 1 March

Fox Mask takes Bullseye under his wing as a protege.

Pre-show

Higa beats Danielle Sweetheart in our longest match of the year so far, going just under half an hour. (C-)

Kip Keenan squashes Fearless Blue. (D-)

Flash and Cougar team to beat Copperhead and Hawkeye. (D+)

Two masked men beat Mosher and Preston Fuller. (D)

Main show

We kick off with the first in a round robin series of solo matches between Cobras, Going Coastal and Rich and Famous. Announcers explain that if both members of the Cobras or Coastal win, they get a tag shot; if both members of R & F win then the two other teams are out of contention for the next six months. Malloy gets a Marvel Breaker to beat CLM in a good opener. (C-)

Fox Mask cuts a promo, saying that Coleman may have broken his arm, but he will NEVER break his spirit. As soon as he's back from injury, he'll get revenge. (C-)

Chet Chavez beats Zach Rudge, with Foxy joining the commentary team. (E+)

Frankie-Boy beats Jackpot Jordan with the Dirt Nap. (C-)

Century, Walls and Keenan swagger out. Walls may have lost at Uprising, Century points out, but it's Diablo Duvak who's the guy currently recovering in hospital. Why? Because "We... break... bodies." (D-)

Keenan and Walls (who's having a poor night) team up to go against El Mitico and Rapido. Quick win for Century's men, Keenan with the MMA hold on Rapido. (D+)

Jaime Quine beats Natalie DiMarco with a KO Kick, carrying her to a decent bout. (D+)

Post-match, Fuyuko Higa comes out with Britney Hollywood. She stares at Quine and makes the 'belt' motion, saying something as she does so. Brit goes to translate, but Jaime stops her. "I can guess what that means, Brit. Fuyuko, you got it." (D-)

Jake Idol and Storm Spillane have good chemistry, and pull off one of the best matches seen all year in the Zone. Idol gets a Reality Check for the win, meaning all three teams have got a win apiece so nobody gets any reward.

Flash Sparrow beat me and Masked Cougar, who don't work well together as a team. I eat the pinfall from a Sparrow Hawk. (C-)

Air Attack Weasel takes on Amazing Fire Fly in the main event. Weasel gets the win with an Air Attack Ace. Fire Fly is off his game and is STILL awesome here. (C-)

C- overall. (Without Donnie J, without Fox Mask wrestling on the main show, and with Perez still injured. Who needs 'aces'?)

CZCW The Next Wave, Saturday Week 2 March

I play a practical joke on Matt Sparrow, who's annoyed by it. On the plus side, Tigre Salvaje Jr finds it hilarious.

Pre-show

Tigre Salvaje and two masked men beat Hawkeye Calhoun, The Architect and Preston Fuller. (D+)

Claire Winters and Emma May beat Bizarro and Maria Guest. Bizarro's super-strange evil clown gimmick goes down well with our fans. (D-)

Two more debutants, Sarah Taylor and Eve Runcord, lose to Jaime Quine and Britney Hollywood. Neither impress, sadly. (D-)

Main show

Things get off to a great start with Fuyuko Higa winning a five-way against Lily Snyder, Natalie DiMarco, Danielle Sweetheart and Ariel Breaks. Higa Green Driver on DiMarco does it. (C-)

Masked Cougar finds Bullseye, who's lying on the floor backstage injured. "They did it..." Bullseye gasps out. "Walls and Keenan and Century." (E+)

Next match should be Chet Chavez and Bullseye vs Rich and Famous non-title, but with Bullseye injured it becomes a handicap. The champs make short work of Chavez. (D+)

Post-match, Rich and Famous make a challenge for Spring Break Bash - Cobras vs Going Coastal, winners get a title shot RIGHT THERE.

Donnie J cuts a promo to build up his match against Super Ninja. (B)

In tag action, we see a preview of that upcoming main event as Donnie teams with Simon Waves to take on Ninja and Amazing Fire Fly. Ninja and AFF still aren't getting on, but nail some great double team moves, and eventually Ninja beats Simon Waves with a Ninja Strike. ©

Masked Cougar swears that the Walls/Keenan/Century alliance's brutal attacks WILL be stopped. (C-)

Donnie J joins the commentary team for the main event, saying he wants to be out here in case Century's men try to get involved. However, no sign of any interference, as Air Attack Weasel and Masked Cougar beat Flash Sparrow with a Cougar Pounce on Flash. ©

C overall, best show of the year!

Big news between the second and third shows of the month, as it's announced that EVERYONE currently fit and on the roster except for current champion Donnie J and number 1 challenger Super Ninja will have the chance to gain a spot in the main event of May's Welcome To The Coastal Zone! Over the next few weeks, there'll be six multiman matches, with the winners facing off in three one on one matches in week 2 of April, followed by a triple threat in Week 4 of April. The overall winner will take on either Donnie J or Super Ninja in a ladder match, just two days later, at the biggest show of the Zone's year, Welcome To The Coastal Zone!

I thought people might like a chance to predict this:

First round

Match 1 Air Attack Weasel vs Al Coleman vs The Architect vs Simon Waves

Match 2 El Jaguar vs Masked Cougar vs Jackpot Jordan vs Tigre Salvaje Jr

Match 3 Carlos Barrera vs Kip Keenan vs Matt Sparrow vs Zach Rudge

Match 4 Aldous Blackfriar vs Chet Chavez vs Jake Idol vs Rapido vs Storm Spillane

Match 5 Amazing Fire Fly vs American Flash vs Bullseye vs Frankie-Boy Fernandes vs Marvel Malloy vs Masked Avatar

Match 6 California Love Machine vs El Mitico Jr vs Miguel Rivera vs Waylon Walls

Semi-finals

First round

Match 1 Air Attack Weasel vs Al Coleman vs The Architect vs Simon Waves

Didn't he just break Fox Mask's arm? Him losing here would be rough

Match 2 El Jaguar vs Masked Cougar vs Jackpot Jordan vs Tigre Salvaje Jr

Tag guys are too occupied with #justtagthings

Match 3 Carlos Barrera vs Kip Keenan vs Matt Sparrow vs Zach Rudge

Sparrow is the smart pick but Keenan, as a part of Waylon's crew, could use the win to legitimize them as more then just midcard meanies

Match 4 Aldous Blackfriar vs Chet Chavez vs Jake Idol vs Rapido vs Storm Spillane

Can't see Aldous getting the win here but he would be my pick if I had more confidence in him

Match 5 Amazing Fire Fly vs American Flash vs Bullseye vs Frankie-Boy Fernandes vs Marvel Malloy vs Masked Avatar

Fire Fly has been given chance after chance at the top of the card and he has been THRIVING. This tournament is great for him

Match 6 California Love Machine vs El Mitico Jr vs Miguel Rivera vs Waylon Walls

Going with another wild pick here, for reasons similar to above

Semi-finals

Al Coleman vs Masked Cougar

Coleman would be a good shout but Cougar is so good

Kip Keenan vs Storm Spillane

Going to keep up the wild card streak and say Kip makes it to the final triple threat

Amazing Fire Fly vs Waylon Walls

Walls in-ring isn't there yet

Final

Masked Cougar vs Kip Keenan vs Amazing Fire Fly

Could see Fire Fly getting the win with Cougar/Kip/Waylon being entangled with each other, but I think you give Cougar a shot at the champ while you still have them both

First Round

Match 1 Air Attack Weasel vs Al Coleman vs The Architect vs Simon Waves

Injury or not, he gets the win.

Match 2 El Jaguar vs Masked Cougar vs Jackpot Jordan vs Tigre Salvaje Jr

Cougar has the inside run to a title shot.

Match 3 Carlos Barrera vs Kip Keenan vs Matt Sparrow vs Zach Rudge

Sparrow is a tough out, but I think Keenan gets help.

Match 4 Aldous Blackfriar vs Chet Chavez vs Jake Idol vs Rapido vs Storm Spillane

Wild card for me. Idol is a solid soldier that can get a shot here.

Match 5 Amazing Fire Fly vs American Flash vs Bullseye vs Frankie-Boy Fernandes vs Marvel Malloy vs Masked Avatar

AFF looks like the real deal. Almost went Malloy though since I'm a fan...

Match 6 California Love Machine vs El Mitico Jr vs Miguel Rivera vs Waylon Walls

Walls gets through with the help of his friends.

Semi-finals

Al Coleman (Winner of match 1) vs Masked Cougar (Winner of match 2)

Coleman did hurt Fox... But he really should lose here to a streaking Cougar.

Kip Keenan (Winner of match 3) vs Jake Idol (Winner of match 4)

Keenan is hot now, and I think getting him to the final is a good result.

Amazing Fire-Fly (Winner of match 5) vs Waylon Walls (Winner of match 6)

I think Walls goes out to botched interference or Cougar stopping the interference.

Final

Masked Cougar vs Kip Keenan vs Amazing Fire-Fly

The Walls/Century battle envelopes Keenan and Cougar, leaving AFF to get the quick roll up win.

Loving the predictions and reasoning; thanks John and Jay!

CZCW The Next Wave, Saturday Week 3 March

Pre-show

CLM and El Mitico Jr team to beat two masked guys, Mitico's Northern Lights Suplex pulling off the win. (D+)

Donnie J squashes Leftie Wilkes, Bradley Blaze, and Copperhead in a quick four-way, Death on Miami Beach beating Blaze. (D)

Main show

Another five-way for Fuyuko Higa, who beats out Emma May, Eve Runcord, Lily Snyder, and Bizarro. It's been said that certain wrestlers could carry a broomstick to a decent match; Higa could carry FOUR broomsticks to a watchable five-way, and virtually does so here. Higa Green Driver on Runcord for the win. (D+)

In the first CZCW Number 1 Contender's Tournament match, Jake Idol beats out Chet Chavez, Storm Spillane, Aldous Blackfriar and Rapido. Blackfriar finds a multi-man match in which he can't order someone else around to be significantly harder than his previous one was, and falls victim to the Reality Check. (C-)

In tag team action, Flash Sparrow beat Notorious and Amazing Fire Fly/Zach Rudge. Sparrow Hawk takes care of Rudge. (C-)

Back to the women, and Jaime Quine, Danielle Sweetheart and Natalie DiMarco team to beat Maria Guest, Ariel Breaks and Sarah Taylor. DiMarco's Show Stealer gimmick gets better every time I see her, but somehow her wrestling skills may be getting WORSE. Quine's KO Kick on Guest wins it. (D)

Donnie J cuts a promo, saying how excited he is to defend against Super Ninja in a few weeks time, and for today's main event! (B)

In another Number 1 Contender's Tournament match, Air Attack Weasel, Al Coleman, Simon Waves and The Architect go at it. With Weasel on the outside after missing an Asai moonsault, Coleman looks to have this won via armlock on the Architect; however Waves makes the save just in time. As the veteran and the surfer boy brawl it out, AAW is able to recover, get back in the ring, and hit the Air Attack Ace on The Architect. (D+)

Super Ninja, Tigre Salvaje Jr, and Masked Cougar beat out Donnie J, Marvel Malloy and El Jaguar in a fun ten-minute sprint. Lots of great high flying here, with the ending coming when Tigre is able to hit regular partner El Jaguar with an enziguri, then tags in Ninja for the Ninja Strike to win it. (C+)

CZCW The Next Wave, Saturday Week 3 March

Pre-show

Two masked guys - one of whom is really off his game - beat Seth Whitehead and Leftie Wilkes. This is NOT a good debut from Whitehead. (D)

Donnie J, Bullseye, and AAW beat Ralph Liotta, Freedom Eagle, and Copperhead with Death on Miami Beach putting away Liotta. (D+)

Main show

Britney comes down with Donnie, shooting T-shirts as she walks. (C+)

Donnie J cuts a promo to talk about how thrilled he is to be defending against Super Ninja in 2 nights' time. (B)

American Cobras beat Notorious, Spillane making Barrera tap to the Kneeling Boston Crab. (C-)

Claire Winters, Danielle Sweetheart and Jaime Quine beat Sarah Taylor, Maria Guest and Lily Snyder, Winters's Heel Kick taking out Taylor. (D+)

Super Ninja (who's off his game) and AFF beat El Mitico Jr/Rapido, Al Coleman/The Architect and Chet Chavez/Simon Waves. Coleman is all over Waves, and looks strong here, but it's Ninja who gets the win with a Ninja Strike on Rapido. (D+)

Waylon Walls and Kip Keenan beat Zach Rudge and Aldous Blackfriar, Jumping Double Arm DDT from Walls beating Aldous. (D)

Post-match, Walls, Keenan and Century attack Blackfriar further, only to be chased off by Bullseye, wielding a chair. He grabs a mic "I want you BOTH at the show on Monday night! And Masked Cougar, if you still want in on these punks, let's make it a tag match!" (D)

Fuyuko Higa defeats Eve Runcord and Emma May in a handicap match, pretty much dismantling them piece by piece with vicious strikes and holds. (D+)

Going Coastal beat the Wild Cats in a spot-filled match, with the ending coming when Tigre Salvage Jr accidentally blasts El Jaguar with a spinning wheel kick after Frankie-Boy moves out of his way. Going Coastal take advantage of the miss to hit the Coast Liner. ©

C overall.

$10,000 or so lost that month, but we at least won the regional battle.

Spring Break Bash preview

In the Zone's first ever women's main event at a monthly show, Fuyuko Higa will challenge for Jaime Quine's Women's Title! Also in championship action, Donnie J will defend his Coastal Zone belt against Super Ninja.

Al Coleman broke Fox Mask's arm a month ago - he's threatened to do the same to Simon Waves, who stopped him from advancing in the tournament during their four-way.

In an Xtreme title match, Tigre Salvaje Jr will defend against partner El Jaguar, Amazing Fire Fly, and American Flash.

Bullseye and Masked Cougar have both had problems with We Break Bodies - they'll team to take on the pairing of Kip Keenan and Waylon Walls.

Guest stars from QAW, Millie The Minx and Charity Sweet, have laid down a challenge to any women on the Zone roster - and it's been accepted by Claire Winters and Danielle Sweetheart!

And Going Coastal take on the American Cobras, with the winners challenging for Rich and Famous's tag titles!

Coastal Zone Championship: Donnie J © vs Super Ninja

Last gasp for Super Ninja as he works his way down the card after this

Al Coleman vs Simon Waves

Coleman broke the face of the Zone's arm, Simon Waves is still paying his dues Young Lion style

Coastal Zone Xtreme Title match: Tigre Salvaje Jr © vs Amazing Fire Fly vs American Flash vs El Jaguar

You've foreshadowed some clear tension between the Wild Cats, so I see the partners costing each other their chance at the belt and AFF walks away with it. Fire Fly is the perfect person to be champion and it will help elevate both him and the belt.

Bullseye/Masked Cougar vs Kip Keenan/Waylon Walls

Bullseye gets the rub of being in a major match despite being a developmental guy, and Keenan/Walls get a win over Masked Cougar without having to pin Masked Cougar

CZCW Spring Break Bash

Pre-show

Matt Sparrow teams with two masked guys to beat Leftie Wilkes, Copperhead and Bradley Blaze, hitting the Bird Brain Buster on Blaze. (D+)

Ariel Breaks and Natalie DiMarco beat Lily Snyder/Bizarro and Maria Guest/Simony Sentinel, DiMarco Stretch causing Bizarro to tap out. (D-)

Air Attack Weasel and Notorious beat Lucas Danger, Seth Whitehead and Kid Fantastic. The Kid, debuting and fighting his first match in about four months after breaking his arm last year, looks better than the rest of his team, but that's not saying much. Rivera debuts a new spot which the crowd love. (D)

Main show

Video plays hyping our two title main events, Donnie J vs Super Ninja and Higa vs Quine. (D-)

In an excellent chapter in the never-ending rivalry, Cobras beat Going Coastal. Really open match, with both teams looking good, but Frankie-Boy taps out to Storm's Kneeling Boston Crab. ©

Donnie cuts a promo about his match with Super Ninja. Fairly standard babyface stuff, but the crowd adore it. (B+)

Danielle Sweetheart and Claire Winters, representing CZCW, beat Millie the Minx and Charity Sweet, representing QAW. This is perfectly acceptable wrestling, nothing specia but it gets the two contracted workers over well. Winters' Heel Kick on Sweet wins it. (D)

Rich and Famous cut a promo, sneering that there's no way the Cobras have what it takes to beat them. (C-)

In the Zone's best match of the year so far, the Cobras prove R & F wrong, overcoming their tiredness after wrestling once already tonight. Jordan and Idol cheat their way to take control several times, but the Cobras just can't be kept down, constantly coming back. Eventually, Malloy's Cobra Strike on Idol gets the win. (B-)

The tag match is a short one, as Waylon Walls and Kip Keenan work over Masked Cougar. Cougar tries to fight back, and eventually dives over to his corner for the hot tag - only to get blasted in the face by his partner! Sneering, Bullseye rips off his vest to reveal a We Break Bodies T-shirt, as Keenan hits the lariat for the victory. (C-)

The three heels, with Century yelling instructions, attack Masked Cougar post match as well, only for Going Coastal to charge down and make the save. (E+)

Amazing Fire Fly wins a high spot filled four way vs both Wild Cats and American Flash to take the Xtreme title. Lots of fun spots here, with the Wild Cats looking good whether hitting double-team manoeuvres or facing off against each other. End comes as El Jaguar dives out of the ring with a tope con hilo on his regular tag partner Tigre Salvaje Jr, unintentionally allowing Amazing Fire Fly to hit the Sky High Fire Fly on American Flash and get the pinfall. ©

Al Coleman beats Simon Waves in a quick and brutal match, the two have no chemistry but this does its job of continuing to get Coleman over as a menace; he focuses hard on Waves's right arm and gets the armlock tapout. (D)

Donnie J beats Super Ninja in a really great match - the two have awesome chemistry, and put on a fabulous show. After several nearfalls for both competitors, Donnie is able to sidestep the Ninja Strike and hit Death on Miami Beach. (C+)

And showing that their place in the main event is absolutely deserved, Fuyuko Higa and Jaime Quine put on a superb 20 minute bout. The champion looks great and has control early on, but somehow can't quite put Higa away, and twice comes agonisingly close to hitting that big KO Kick without quite managing to. As the match goes on, Higa looks better and better, and is eventually able to win the title with the Higa Green Driver. (C+)

C overall.

Over in AAA, Cherry Bomb wins the newly created COTT Women's championship.

(Thanks John Lions for predicting! 6/7, just missing the tag match.)

Nice show! Glad to see the match ratings go up accordingly, even after you lost Frankie Perez and not having some of your core zoners like Fox Mask on the show. Completely missed the tag title match but it wouldn't have mattered since I didn't think Rich and Famous would drop the title anyway.

Was expected Bullseye to be getting a minor push from helping Cougar out, so I was a bit shocked when he joined up with Walls but it was a bit more clear in hindsight.

(F)

Claire Winters and Natalie DiMarco (who's off her game) beat Sentinel/Guest and Sweetheart/Breaks. Flying Knee Strike from Claire on Simony is the finish. (D)

Super Ninja and Amazing Fire Fly beat Bullseye and Keenan, Sky High Fire Fly putting down Keenan. While Ninja and AFF further their uneasy alliance storyline with a couple of instances of miscommunication, Keenan and Bullseye look legitimately terrible as partners. Also Ninja and Bullseye are off their games here; Fire Fly carries them to something watchable but it's not pretty. (D)

Amazing Fire Fly grabs a mic and taunts Travis Century. (D)

Coleman and Sparrow - who also look terrible in the ring together - pull off something of a shock win over Donnie J and Air Attack Weasel, Weasel tapping to the armlock from Coleman. Britney translates for Fuyuko, who accepts the match, and says she wants it to be a 30 minute iron-woman match! (D)

Chet Chavez and Al Coleman show excellent chemistry teaming together, which makes the next match way better than I was ever hoping for. Chetinator on El Jaguar gives them something of an upset win over the Wild Cats; the Cats seem to struggle to get on the same page, perhaps because they've ended up going against each other in recent weeks more often than they've teamed. ©

Rich and Famous take on Storm Spillane/Masked Cougar and Rapido/California Love Machine (since CLM and Storm's regular partners were in tournament action tonight.)

Welcome To The Coastal Zone Preview

It's time for our biggest show of the year, Welcome To The Coastal Zone!

Jake Idol won the number one contender's tournament, which featured nearly our entire roster. The tag team star is now just one match away from singles glory, as he faces Donnie J in a ladder match for the CZCW Championship!

Last month, Fuyuko Higa continued her rise to superstardom, beating Jaime Quine for the women's title. This time around, they'll face off again - in a 30 minute iron woman match!

In tag title action, The Wild Cats won a number one contender's match for the COTT Tag Titles, and will challenge the Ring Generals.

And the losers of that match, Going Coastal, will receive a shot at the CZCW Tag Titles after long-term friendly rivals American Cobras issued a late challenge.

Al Coleman is a man who looks increasingly vicious and unhinged, showing no signs of slowing down since he broke Fox Mask's arm a few months ago. Next up - Matt Sparrow.

Speaking of Fox Mask, he's looking for a new protégé - a Fox Cub, as he calls it. The mask is made; who will wear it? Carlos Barrera or Simon Waves?

And We Break Bodies, who have put out numerous Zone wrestlers in recent months, will go against Amazing Fire Fly, Masked Cougar and Super Ninja.

CZCW Welcome To The Coastal Zone, Mon Week 1 May 2018

Pre-show

Lucas Danger teams with a masked guy to beat Hugh De Aske and Joffy Laine. No chemistry from EITHER team here, while Danger is wasted on drugs, meaning it's something of a flop. (D-)

El Mitico Jr and Rapido win a tag match against The Architect/Drop Kix, Chet Chavez/Zach Rudge, and Aldous Blackfriar/Copperhead. Drop Kix eats the pin from Rapido's 540 Splash. (D)

Bradley Blaze, Miguel Rivera and Boriken Love Machine Jr beat Johnny Needham, Tiger Prince and Austin Smooth with Rivera's Shot in the Dark on Prince. (D-)

Claire Winters, Danielle Sweetheart, Britney Hollywood and Natalie DiMarco beat Ariel Breaks, Romi Yamato, Lily Snyder and Maria Guest, Britney hitting the Hollywood Hills on Maria. (D)

In a big five vs five match, I team with two unknown masked guys, plus AAW and American Flash. We beat Acid II, Jackpot Jordan, Preston Fuller, Seth Whitehead and Cobra, Air Attack Ace by Weasel on Cobra getting the job done. (D)

Main show

Britney and Donnie come out, Brit firing T-shirts into the crowd. (C+)

Donnie talks about how he respects Idol, the tag wrestler having done incredibly well to get to this point, but he's sure he can beat him. (B)

Despite Marvel Malloy and CLM being off their games, Cobras and Going Coastal have their usual great match. Marvel Breaker from Malloy on Frankie-Boy does enough for the win. (C+)

Carlos Barrera beats Simon Waves to become the new Fox Cub, hitting a Fox Hunter for the win. (D)

Fox Mask enters the ring with the Fox Cub mask and hands it over to Barrera, congratulating him. The Notorious member takes it and holds it aloft - before dropping it and punt kicking it into the crowd. Sneering, he looks at Foxy. "You think I want to be a goddamn super hero like you and Masked Cougar and all the other idiots who've stunk up this joint for so long? I just wanted to show you that we are BETTER than all of you." Foxy looks shocked.

(D)

AFF, Super Ninja and Masked Cougar beat Waylon Walls, Kip Keenan and Bullseye, with I Am Cougar, Hear Me Roar taking out Bullseye. We Break Bodies are focusing as much as possible on Fire Fly through the match, and the other two take full advantage of this to attack them. ©

Post-match, Travis Century announces that Waylon Walls is owed a rematch for the Xtreme title and he's invoking that clause RIGHT NOW! (D)

Despite the beating he took in the six-man, AFF is somehow able to do enough to fight Walls off, grabbing the quick cradle for the victory. ©

Jake Idol cuts a promo saying that he and Jordan have shown over the years that they're the Zone's greatest tag team, and he's about to show that he's the best singles star too. (C+)

Ring Generals retain their titles, after El Jaguar has control but seems reluctant to tag in Tigre Salvaje Jr, wanting to win the match himself. Waldorf Salad Toss, after a comeback from Dean, shows that that was a bad decision to make. (C-)

Post-match, Tigre Salvaje Jr grabs a mic. "I love you like a brother, man, but this isn't working for me anymore. The Wild Cats are done." (D)

Al Coleman, in a vicious display, beats Matt Sparrow. Twice, he has him in that fearsome armlock, only to actually let go when it appears Sparrow is about to tap out, to inflict more punishment with brutal punches and stomps. Eventually, he gets it on a third time for the tap-out. (D+)

Jaime Quine starts her women's title shot against Fuyuko Higa on fire, and becomes the first woman to pin her, doing so twice to take a 2-0 lead in their Iron Woman match. However, Higa fights back, and with two Higa Green Drivers and a desperation sunset flip at the 29 minute mark, gets a 3-2 win. (C+)

Donnie J and Jake Idol both have a bad night, and it looks like we should have let the women go on last rather than this ladder match. Donnie collects the title to get the victory, after a Death on Miami Beach. ©

C overall.

Dammit, I knew we should've given the women the main.

Thanks both for predicting!

Pre-show

Rich and Famous squash Hugh de Aske and Nathaniel Ca$ino. Casino's Gambler gimmick - flipping a coin to decide whether to tag in, at one point - somehow gets the crowd WILD, though. (D+)

Kip Keenan, Bullseye, and Waylon Walls beat Austin Smooth, Johnny Needham and Ralph Liotta, in a match carried by Keenan. (D)

Keenan grabs a mic and cuts an explosive promo, promising that we WILL bow down to We Break Bodies. ©

Main show

Brit shoots T-shirts as she accompanies Donnie out. (C+)

Donnie calls out Al Coleman. "You're taking out the biggest stars in the Zone with that armlock, I hear you say? Well, they don't come bigger than me. You and me, next week." Coleman smirks in response. "You want me, champ? You got me. But not next week, let's save it for Surf Slam. Oh... and bring that belt." (C+)

Coleman teams with El Mitoco Jr next to win a four-way tag, beating Rapido/AAW, me/Chet Chavez and American Flash/Aldous Blackfriar. El Mitico appears uneasy at tagging with the bad-tempered armbreaker, but never the less does his fair share, hitting an incredible plancha to wipe out four men while Coleman locks on the armlock to make Blackfriar tap out. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the match is the smoothness which Blackfriar and Flash display; they don't look like a duo teaming together for the first time. (D+)

Zach Rudge, backstage, asks Flash, Weasel and Donnie J if anyone's heard from Fox Mask since Welcome To The Coastal Zone. Nobody has. (D)

Jaime Quine beats Natalie DiMarco, carrying her to a decent match. (C-)

Post-match, Quine asks Fuyuko Higa to come out. The champ does, accompanied by interpreter Britney Hollywood. Jaime bows her head. "Fuyuko, just over a month ago, you beat me for my Women's title. Last week, you gave me the chance to reclaim it, and I came close, but couldn't beat you." She takes a deep breath. "But - I did what nobody else has done. I pinned you, in the middle of the ring. Not just once, but twice. So I'm asking, if you think I deserve it, how about one more title shot." Higa nods thoughtfully then starts to speak, with Britney translating. "There are many excellent competitors here. But as you say, none of them has come as close to beating me as you have. So let's go at it one more time. But let's make Zone history - with the first ever Women's title LADDER MATCH!" Quine smiles, and accepts. (C-)

Notorious beat Going Coastal, in a minor upset. The commentators sell how aggressive Barrera, in particular, is being, also referring to the disrespect with which he treated Fox Mask at Welcome. (C-)

Amazing Fire Fly and Simon Waves go up against Zach Rudge and Tigre Salvage Jr. Stip here is if Tigre and Zach win, Tigre gets an Xtreme title shot. However, that's never close to happening; Rudge looks distracted and gets rolled up in just over 3 and a half minutes by Waves; Salvaje doesn't even get to tag in. (C-)

In a women's title defence, Higa beats Claire Winters, Danielle Sweetheart, and Lily Snyder, carrying them to a very good match and pinning Snyder. ©

In a Coastal Zone Championship match, Donnie J puts Super Ninja away with Death on Miami Beach to end an excellent sprint. These two really do look fantastic together. (C+)

Donnie J grabs a mic. "I've thought about it, and you want me at Surf Slam, Coleman? You got me. But you know what they say. Be careful what you wish for; I will have ZERO problem breaking your damn arm." (A)

C+ overall, amazing show capped with the best Zone segment of the year. Yes, I'm confused that Al Coleman is half of our hottest feud yet too.

Rumours spread that Fuyuko Higa is trying to make alliances in QAW. There's even claims she has said she's the best wrestler in the company's history. I'm not sure it counts as boasting when it's an irrefutable fact...

Just announced for the upcoming weeks - Tag Team Tryout; six Zone stars and six hopefuls will face off in a series of three-way tag matches. Every star will team with every hopeful once. Stars - Air Attack Weasel, Aldous Blackfriar, American Flash, El Mitico Jr, Rapido, Super Ninja.

Pre-show

Higa and Britney beat Ava Anderson and Lily Snyder in a surprisingly good match. The established team of Ava and Lily show excellent chemistry teaming together, while Higa is - as always - on fire. (C-)

Donnie J teams with Chet Chavez to beat Hugh de Aske/The Architect and Nathaniel Ca$ino/Joffy Laine. Chet pins de Aske. (D+)

Main show

In the first tag team tryout match, El Mitico and Bradley Blaze beat Acid II/Super Ninja (who incredibly doesn't whine about this result) and Rapido/Tiger Prince in a pretty fun high flying bout. Dallas Drop on Rapido wins it for Blaze. (D+)

Donnie J cuts a backstage promo about how his reign will just keep going. (B+)

Jaime Quine and Claire Winters beat Romi Yamato and Maria Guest, in a showcase for Quine. (D+)

Brit hypes up Higa vs Quine. (D)

Rich and Famous beat El Jaguar and a distrated Zach Rudge; Idol hitting the Reality Check on Rudge. The commentators tell us that El Jaguar has been looking for a new partner since the split of the Wild Cats. (C-)

Quine hypes up her match against Higa. ©

In the second tag team tryout match of the day, Aldous Blackfriar and Kyichi Matsumoto beat American Flash/Copperhead and AAW/Austin Smooth. This is a bizarre encounter which is practically 4 on 2, as Blackfriar's lackey Copperhead and his partner Flash BOTH seem more interested in helping Aldous win than doing so themselves. Kyuichi is confused, but goes along with it. Finish sees Flash hit Flash Bang on Smooth, only to tag out and let Blackfriar take the pin. Commentary team - and Matsumoto - are bewildered here. (D+)

Backstage, Rudge asks Donnie J if he's had any word from Foxy. Sadly, Donnie shakes his head. ©

Al Coleman forces CLM to tap out to the armlock. (C-)

In a fun spot fest, Amazing Fire Fly beats Storm Spillane in a Falls Count Anywhere match to retain his Xtreme title, leaping from the ring to the outside with a Sky High Fire Fly for the victory. (C+)

We finish with a video highlighting Donnie J's title reign so far. ©

C+ overall.

American Flash whines to me that he needs some victories. Ummm... yeah, good luck with that, Flash.

Bradley Blaze becomes toned.

Nothing to do with us, but Nigel Svensson just joined BHOTWG and I'm marking out for him!

CZCW The Next Wave, Sat Week 3 May 2018

DAMMIT. Higa beats up Natalie DiMarco. I give her a stern warning; DiMarco is unhappy as she thinks it's far too soft. On the one hand, I agree; on the other hand, it's HIGA.

Meanwhile, Coleman laughs at Tiger Prince's lack of push, also getting a stern warning. My backstage drops FAST.

Pre-show

We Break Bodies beat Amazing Fire Fly, Xavi Ferrera and Tyrone Gray, Kip's lariat taking out Xavi. (D+)

The debuting Mercy Michaels and Ralph Liotta beat Boriken Love Machine Jr and Cobra in a terrible match. (E+)

Two unknown masked guys beat Joffy Laine and The Architect. (D+)

Main show

Al Coleman and Donnie J confront each other. (B-)

American Flash and Austin Smooth win a three-way tag tryout match, beating Air Attack Weasel/Kyuichi Matsumoto and Rapido/Bradley Blaze. Rapido and Blaze look awesome together, which is interesting. High Velocity Senton by Flash on Kyuichi finishes it. (D+)

In an 'I'm sorry I let someone beat you up with virtually no consequences' match, DiMarco gets a win over Ava Anderson, Maria Guest and Romi Yamato. (D)

With Higa sent home for the night, Brit builds up hype for the match with Quine. (D)

In the other tag tryout match today, Acid II and El Mitico Jr beat Super Ninja/Copperhead and Aldous Blackfriar/Tiger Prince. This is bizarre, with Copperhead doing more to help Blackfriar's team than to win it for his own, much to Ninja's disgust. Despite this, Acid II and El Mitico's high-flying takes the win, Blackfriar falling victim to the Acid Rain Bomb. (D+)

Backstage, Zach Rudge - looking hugely excited - shows Donnie J the Fox Cub mask, saying he received it earlier today. Surely this means Fox Mask is back?! Donnie seems to be less sure, but is happy for the youngster. (C-)

Jaime Quine and Claire Winters beat Ariel Breaks and Danielle Sweetheart, Winters taking the win with the Heel Kick. (C-)

Donnie J and Zach Rudge beat Notorious, Zach getting a rare pinfall victory after hitting the Freak Out on Barrera. Wearing the Fox Cub mask, Rudge is surprisingly focused and FAR more aggressive than ever before, especially when going after Barrera. (C-)

In a match to determine who'll face COTT champion Nicolas Lopes next month, Masked Cougar wins a four-way vs Idol, Malloy and CLM. Cougar Pounce on Love Machine wins it. This is awesome, one of our best of the year so far. (B-)

C overall.

Marvel Malloy tells me he thinks Tiger Prince is a star in the making.

CZCW The Next Wave, Sat Week 4 May 2018

Pre-show

Two masked men beat Xavi Ferrera and Tyrone Gray. (D+)

Kip Keenan and Waylon Walls beat Mercy Michaels and Cobra (who are not a good team), Kip's lariat doing the job. (D)

Main show

Brit fires T-shirts as she comes down with Donnie. (C+)

Donnie starts to cut a promo, only to be interrupted by Al Coleman. "Keep hugging that belt, champ, because in 48 hours, you're going to be crying over losing it, and having your arm broken." (C+)

Jaime Quine beats Danielle Sweetheart with the KO kick; these two always do a good job for us and tonight's no exception. Commentators build up Quine vs Higa in the first ever ladder match for the Women's title, while also pointing out this is 3 wins in a row for Quine against Danielle. ©

Brit and Fuyuko come down, applauding Jaime and saying they can't wait for Monday night. (D+)

Aldous Blackfriar and Bradley Blaze win a bizarre tag team tryout match against American Flash/Kyuichi Matsumoto and El Mitico Jr/Copperhead. Flash and Copperhead are BOTH keen to help Blackfriar's team here, who get an easy win when he locks Matsumoto in the Gloomweaver Clutch after Flash blasts his own partner with an enziguri. The commentators - and Blackfriar's partner Bradley Blaze - are confused. Blackfriar suffers a swollen maritime elbow. (D+)

In the other tag team tryout match of the day, Super Ninja and Austin Smooth beat Rapido and Acid II, and Air Attack Weasel and Tiger Prince. This is much more of a normal match - apart from the breakneck speed it takes place at, with so many great high flyers in there. Ninja's Ninja Strike on Acid II wins it. Rapido and Acid II look superb together. (D+)

Zach Rudge, Amazing Fire Fly and El Jaguar go to a no-contest with Tigre Salvaje Jr and Going Coastal when We Break Bodies attack EVERYBODY. Prior to this, it had been a good match, with El Jaguar pulling off some great moves - and yelling "hey, look at that" or similar things to Tigre whenever he did so. (C-)

The six men are able to regroup somewhat and force We Break Bodies onto the back foot; there's a stand-off as Century grabs a mic. "Did you miss us?" he sneers. "We took some time off, but we came back for one reason - Fire Fly, Bullseye wants that Xtreme title. So here's the deal. You two face off on Monday night. Two of the other guys in there go one-on-one with Waylon and Kip. If anyone interferes in ANY of those matches, we'll leave for good. If my men don't win at least two matches at the event, we'll leave for good. What do you say?"

Angrily, Fire Fly grabs a mic of his own. "You want a shot? You got it!" Going Coastal smile and nod. "We're in." ©

Claire Winters and Fuyuko Higa beat Anderson & Snyder, Winters's Flying Knee Strike taking out Snyder. (C-)

In a great main event, Masked Cougar and Donnie J beat Tigre Salvaje Jr and Simon Waves. Salvaje - wrestling for the second time AND selling the beatdown from We Break Bodies - looks excellent, while Waves hangs in there with the established stars, before jobbing to Death on Miami Beach (B-)

A video hypes the three title matches on Monday night. (D)

C+ overall.

Oh wow, we somehow managed to make an $11,000 profit AND win the regional battle!

Surf Slam preview

It's a night of many titles, as Nicolas Lopes returns to CZCW to defend his COTT belt against Masked Cougar! Lopes was successful in retaining vs Donnie J back in March, in a hard-fought double count-out which saw both champions hold onto their belts, but can the Cougar bring the belt to the Zone? Speaking of titles, Fuyuko Higa's reign has been superb so far, with 4 hard-fought victories, 2 against Jaime Quine. Quine has asked for one last shot, after becoming the first person to pin Higa in their 30 minute iron woman match last month. Higa's accepted, and the pair will collide in a ladder match!

Donnie J's Coastal Zone Championship will be defended against Al Coleman. The man who injured Donnie's friend Fox Mask, and another established star Matt Sparrow, looks to carry on his path of destruction - but the normally easy-going champ is furious at the broken arm his friend suffered, and has said he'll have no problem inflicting the same damage to Coleman. Of course, if you listen to the challenger, HE'S the one who's going to snap the champ's arm.

We Break Bodies made an impact on their return after a few weeks' absence, attacking everyone competing in a 3 vs 3 match. They did that to get Bullseye a shot against Xtreme champion Amazing Fire Fly, and it's certainly worked, but there are added stips to that and two other matches. Kip Keenan will take on Frankie-Boy Fernandes while Waylon Walls goes after California Love Machine; Travis Century has sworn that if there's any interference in ANY of those three matches, or if his men leave the event without at least two wins, they'll be gone for good.

Also in title action, Rich and Famous take on the American Cobras to challenge for the belts the Cobras defeated them for back at Spring Break Bash.

Further down the card, a tag team contest sees Super Ninja and Acid II pair up against Aldous Blackfriar's followers, Copperhead and American Flash. Virtually every other competitor in the tag tryouts matches is seriously annoyed at Blackfriar's group and the way they're helping each other, regardless of what teams they're on. The two masked men have sworn to send them a message.

Tigre Salvaje Jr claims that his two matches just two days ago show he's the most extreme person in CZCW, despite dropping the Xtreme title to Amazing Fire Fly back in April, and has challenged anyone who thinks they deserve a shot at that belt before he does to meet him in the ring at Surf Slam so he can prove them wrong. First to sign up? Former tag partner El Jaguar, who seems to be struggling to cope with the Wild Cats' split.

And the man who mysteriously got sent the Fox Cub mask takes on the guy who turned down the chance to wear it, sneering at the legendary Fox Mask as he did so. Zack Rudge goes after Carlos Barrera, trying to get revenge for the man he admires.
