TORONTO, Ontario November 1, 2018 – Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions, LLC (d/b/a Impact Wrestling) has announced a change in direction with their product and expectations for 2019 and beyond.

 

Impact Wrestling, formerly known as Total Non-Stop Action (TNA), launched in 2002 as the first real United States competitor for the WWE since WWE’s acquisition of World Championship Wrestling in 2001. With hall of fame caliber talent over the years ranging from AJ Style, Sting, Christian, and Jeff Jarrett, Impact Wrestling has always had a pulse on the wrestling community interest, as an alternative to the WWE.

 

“At Anthem, we want Impact Wrestling to be more than an alternative to current, mainstream wrestling, we want Impact Wrestling to be the choice for sports entertainment. The direction of our vision has taken many side roads, but the vision remains the same. We’ve made decisions and sacrifices to bring a new vision to the forefront of Impact Wrestling, and we’re confident that the road ahead is going to delight wrestling fans around the world.” said Anthem President Ed Nordholm.

 

In 2018, Impact Wrestling is coming off some of the worst attendance and TV viewership numbers in the promotion's history. When asked how this change affects Scott D’Amore and Don Callis, Nordholm said “Scott and Don are fantastic at what they do, and they will continue to be involved with the operation of Impact Wrestling. We have much in-store for Impact Wrestling fans, and Impact Wrestling will never...ever...be the same...again.”

I haven't watched Impact in quite some time, but I'm attracted to the idea of someone challenging WWE. Initially, I wanted to do a WCW 1991, 1994 or 1997 dynasty. However, there are a lot of WCW 90s dynasties.</p>

11/04/18 - Charlotte, NC</p><p> </p><p>

TV cameras fade in on an Impact Wrestling crowed and the dull sound of crowd noise. Today marks the beginning of a new Impact Wrestling and the lights in the arena go out suddenly to a small fan reaction. Suddenly, music begins playing in the arena.</p><p> </p><p>

As Fozzy's "Judas" plays in the arena, the lights come back on to none other than Chris Jericho making an entrance on the ramp to a roaring crowd response. As Jericho makes his way down to the ring slowly, with an arrogant smirk on his face, the crowd begins to chant.</p><p> </p><p>

"Y2J!"</p><p> </p><p>

"Y2J!"</p><p> </p><p>

"Y2J!"</p><p> </p><p>

As Jericho enters the ring, the music stops and he stands in the middle of the ring, looking around at the Impact Wrestling crowd with a microphone in hand</p><p> </p><p>

"Welcome to the FUTURE, of Impact Wrestling!"</p><p> </p><p>

The crowd goes nuts, hanging on every word Jericho has to say.</p><p> </p><p>

"I have been many places and done many things. I have always said, anything was on the table if the situation was right. I thought one day, I'd end up here in Impact Wrestling, just never in this way."</p><p> </p><p>

The crowd begins Y2J chants again.</p><p> </p><p>

"Looking to the FUTURE BABY! I can say that Impact Wrestling will never...."</p><p> </p><p>

"EHHHHH-"</p><p> </p><p>

Suddenly, Austin Aries music hits to a roar of boos as he makes his way out to the ramp. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived starts down the ramp and into the ring, not taking his eyes off Jericho the entire way.</p><p> </p><p>

"What are you doing here, Chris? I mean, last I saw, you were begging for work from those who claim to be "elite", and in Japan. If you were looking for a full-time gig, I'm sure we could have gotten you into an enhancement spot"</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho smiles and begins to walk around the ring in a laid-back manner</p><p> </p><p>

"Austin Aries! The Greatest Man That Ever Lived! A-Double! More like stupid idiot! Didn't you walk out not long ago?"</p><p> </p><p>

The crowd jumps all over Jericho's comment when Aries dropped the World Championship to Johnny Impact. Aries takes exception to this comment and drops the mic, stepping up in Jericho's face as the two take verbal jabs at each other off-mic. Then, Impact Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion Johnny Morrison makes his way out to the ramp.</p><p> </p><p>

"Guys, is this how we want to start the "future"?</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho is fuming.</p><p> </p><p>

"Who the hell or you? Johnny Nitro? I don't know what makes anyone think they can come out here and interrupt me in this ring. So, here is what I'm going to do. A-Double Stupid Idiot? Johnny Nitro? You two will enter this ring later tonight. Now get out of my ring!"</p><p> </p><p>

Aries steps out of the ring, pointing at Jericho and Morrison, still taking verbal jabs at both.</p><p> </p><p>

"Oh, and by the way. Because you decided to come out during my time. The Best at What I Do. Bring your Championship Johnny, because it will be on the line."</p><p> </p><p>

Impact throws his arms up in the air looking around as if he doesn't know what is going on. Meanwhile, Arie's demeanor changes from angry to cynical as he starts at Impact from ringside.</p><p> </p><p>

While nothing can be confirmed regarding in-ring performers, they have made quiet additions to their staff with the following hires: Tom Prichard, Andrea D'Marco and Anthony Carelli.<br /></li><li>In addition to looking for new talent, sources say Impact Wrestling is also looking to lockdown key workers for their future vision. We're told Impact has come to an agreement on an Exclusive PPV deal with current X-Division Champion, Eli Drake.<br /></li><li>While speaking of Eli Drake, rumors are circulating about a backstage incident between Drake and Konnan. While facts have not been confirmed, the word is Konnan has a chip on his shoulder and is rubbing many the wrong way.<br /></li><li>At Bound for Glory 2018, we saw Austin Aries defeat Johnny Impact for the World Heavyweight Championship. Impact was reported to exit the ring clutching his arm. We can confirm that Johnny Impact has suffered a partially ruptured bicept tendon, taking him out of action. When reaching out for comments, Impact Wrestling indicated they did not see this as a long-term injury, and expect Impact back in the ring soon.<br /></li><li>Austin Aries is taking backstage heat, and the rumor is that a botch by him caused Johnny Impact's injury. We have been unable to confirm this.<br /></li><li>After taking a booking position elsewhere, executive member of Impact Wrestling, Don Callis, has been terminated. A statement released by President of Impact Wrestling, Chris Jericho, reads "I regret that Don has decided to pursue other ventures. "Woah, woah, woah. Wait a minute. I think over the last few months, everyone is tired of hearing from Austin Aries". The crowd erupts when Eddie Edwards walks onto the stage. Edwards issued a challenge to Aries, 1-on-1 for the Impact World Heavyweight Championship. Aries, with a smirk on his face, reminds Edwards that he doesn't belong in the main event picture, and he has no plans to defend HIS championship tonight, throwing his mic on the canvas.</p><p> </p><p>

As Aries begins to exit the ring, "Judas" by Fozzy begins to play as Chris Jericho makes his way on the top of the ramp and stands face-to-face with Edwards.</p><p> </p><p>

"Listen here, Junior! You don't make matches. I do. You don't grant Championship opportunities. I do. You don't get to decide what someone like you and Impact Champion will do. I do."</p><p> </p><p>

Jericho turns his attention to Aries, standing on the ring apron.</p><p> </p><p>

"As Impact Champion, you better be the Greatest Man That Ever Lived, Austin Aries!" Aries can be seen from the ring apron yelling up the ramp at Jericho.</p><p> </p><p>

"Will you please shut...the hell...up! Tonight, you both will be in action, to prove to me you should be Champ, and you should be a challenger!"</p><p> </p><p>
