[CVerse] DIW: Nice Boys Don't Play Rock and Roll!

Recommended Posts

<p></p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><em>(Backstage, moments after the finale of DIW Devil’s Playground 2016)</em></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="CwNnmYt.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/CwNnmYt.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The locker room converged around DIW’s founder, owner, booker, figurehead and icon, The Comedian. The veteran brawler was unusually free of scars, cuts, blood and bruises as he didn’t get to wrestle that night. He took one last drag from his cigarette, then dropped it to the floor of Marv’s Sports Central and extinguished it with his boot as he blew out the smoke.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Alright boys, gather round… You all did great tonight. Showed everyone what we’re all about. I want you all to give a special round of applause for our main event guys tonight…”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="DE0wmcP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DE0wmcP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NaHG9Mh.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NaHG9Mh.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The locker room did as the Comedian asked, cheering for Tombstone and Dumfrey Pinn. Unlike his in-ring persona, the 26 year old champion actually looked a little shy in the center of all the attention. Pinn, on the other hand, nodded in satisfaction with a slight smile, as if saying that yes indeed, he deserved every bit of praise he was getting.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Stoney here sold his ass off for Dumf and still looked badass when he made his comeback… And Pinn... thanks for putting the champ over. You had the fans going wild with that promo. Take notes, kiddos… That’s how you get a reaction and that’s also how you move in the ring as a big man. Unlike…”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The Comedian’s gaze scanned the room, until he found the man he was looking for. The cheerful atmosphere turned into deathly silence as eyes settled on the man.</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="EVHZpm5.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/EVHZpm5.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Bob Shrunkle. Bob the Blob.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Bobbie there... Now I hate to say it, but running a weekly show’s been killing my pocket. I gotta make some cuts. Nothing personal, Bob. Dumfrey’s got the monster heel spot covered. He’s over, he can cut a promo and he can wrestle. Got the Truckers around too... There’s just no room for another guy like that. So just know I won’t be booking you again anytime soon. Thanks for everything.”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Shrunkle simply snorted. He understood. His main assets were being over 400lbs and cheap to employ. Neither of which would save his job right now.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Give the man a f**king round of applause, lads!” </strong>the Comedian yelled, breaking the awkward atmosphere. The locker room cheered, then settled down as some folks patted Bob the Blob on the shoulder as a final farewell. It wasn’t like he had any brotherly friends, but work for DIW long enough and the overall “us against them” atmosphere would get under your skin sooner or later.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Same goes for Bryan there”</strong> the Comedian added. <strong>“I’ll give you a call once you’re needed again, mate”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="2J6zMjU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/2J6zMjU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Bryan Land, the man known as God of War, grimaced. He knew this was coming. He knew it since Hell’s Jester stole the show against him to qualify for the tournament. <strong>“That better be pretty f**king soon, before I hit 40 and retire!”</strong> he jokingly said. The gang burst into awkward laughter. The Comedian was exactly forty years of age and probably (over)due to retire. There were also signs that DIW wasn’t going to draw in the money needed to bring God of War back into the fold any time soon. Hell, there were signs it wasn’t going to be around at all any time soon.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“I might have a spot open up soon if this kid here kills himself before that!”</strong> the Comedian responded in similarly ‘humorous’ fashion, pointing to the man he was talking about.</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="nG8UqhA.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/nG8UqhA.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The youngster known as Australian Devil looked at him with a puzzled expression on his -still painted- face. At 24 years of age with just four of them making odd appearances in the indy circuit, he was still somewhat oblivious to these kind of locker room interactions. <strong>“Seriously kid, you got something about you, but you gotta learn how to work without looking so sloppy”</strong> the Comedian told the rookie. AusDev nodded like an eager child looking to make their coach proud.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Which brings me to my last point. I’m bringing in a new face to build a group around. Gyula, I’m gonna need you to come up with a name that’s easier to f**king pronounce, because you’re joining that group on your own.”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="1PMzfIv.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/1PMzfIv.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

A smile slashed Gyula Lakatos’ face in two as he realized he was getting a better push. Somehow, the combination of that smile and his goatee made him look even more… satanic than usual. His Ares Death Cult partner though was anything but happy.</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="iPA8aQ2.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iPA8aQ2.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

<strong>“The **** d’we do?”</strong> Cesar Sionis roared in anger. <strong>“First you take the titles from us, now you wanna break up the Cult?”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The Comedian sighed. Yeah, this was going all too well to last for long. <strong>“Nothing”</strong> he finally said. <strong>“You did nothing. Which is kind of the point. You’ve been a pain in the ass to deal with, but I sucked it up because of your work. Now there’s new guys coming in and they’re getting more over than you.”</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong>

“Oh yeah? Like that pot-head Samoan?”</strong> Sionis snapped, clearly unhappy with the answer he got. <strong>“Because he clearly can’t f**king wrestle and last week he showed up too f**king high to go out there, but you kept him around and now he got a win to enter your f**king tournament! Oh, I forgot, he’s related to some f**ktard who’s wrestling for Rhode Island across the f**king ocean, as if anyone f**king cares! Guess that’s what really matters for you, huh?”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The Comedian was taking it all with a stern face. This wasn’t the first time he was getting crap from people in the business. Far from it, actually. King Malietoa was fuming though.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="tDixh5l.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/tDixh5l.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

The air smelled of gunpowder, but unlike Sionis, the burly Samoan realized that aggression would only make matters worse for his case right now.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“See, that’s why you’re a pain in the ass, Cesar”</strong> the Comedian said with a calm voice once Sionis was done yelling. <strong>“Get the f**k out of my locker room. You’re fired.”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

Sionis snorted in defiance. <strong>“The f**k I am! I quit!”</strong> he said, then spun on his heel to storm out the door.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Yeah, don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out!”</strong> shouted the Comedian. For all his apparent calm, he just had to take a jab. As the adrenaline died down, he looked around him and saw his workers, stunned.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>“Right, let’s wrap this up and have a goddamn drink, aye?”</strong></p><p> </p><p>

The locker room erupted in cheers once more.</p></div><p></p><p></p>

DIW Violent Delight

Date: Friday, Week 1 of February 2016

Location: Marv’s Sports Central, Eastern Australia

Attendance: 300 (sold out)

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZPzsx3AdHpw" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

DE0wmcP.jpg

The full intro melody of "Walk with me in Hell" plays before Tombstone makes his entrance as soon as the main heavy part of the song hits. With the DIW Championship title belt worn around his waist, he grabs a mic off the timekeeper's table and rolls into the ring, motioning to the techs to cut his music so he can talk.

Tombstone: “Last Sunday at Devil's Playground, The Comedian chose to interfere in my match... and while I appreciate the help, I sure as hell didn't need it! You see, none of Pinn's lackeys had gotten involved prior, so it's not like The Comedian evened the odds or anything... It's been eating me ever since, how his actions made my victory feel... less than it should have been. So Comedian, I expect, nay, I DEMAND an apology!”

CwNnmYt.jpg

The familiar music of the Comedian hits the speakers and with a lit smoke hanging off the edge of his lip as usual, the owner of DIW comes down to the ring and grabs the mic out of Tombstone's hands.

The Comedian: "YOU UNGRATEFUL F**K!"

Without much more, The Comedian kicks Tombstone in the gut and begins laying on him as the crowd roars in approval. After the initial shock, Tombstone fights back and it takes almost a dozen people to pull them apart under chants of "let them fight".

Dumfrey Pinn vs East Coast Panther

The visual tells the story, it's a David vs Goliath situation as the small high flyer takes on the big powerhouse in the opening contest. ECP starts the match strong, looking to evade his much slower opponent and tire him out. It's good to get the crowd going after a couple of flashy spots, but there is little there in terms of actual damage. The youngster quickly gets overconfident and tries to ascend the ropes for a high impact move, but gets caught by Pinn who assumes full control of the match from that point on. Venting his frustration for ECP's actions and probably his big loss at DIW Devil's Playground, Pinn demolishes the rookie in a glorified squash match before hitting the Boss-A-Nova...

BJT: Bet he wishes it was as easy at DIW Devil's Playground, Dean.

The Barracudas vs Vance Sturt & Wez Dobberly (with Lori)

Rourke and Dobberly start the match for their respective teams, but instead of fighting, Rourke signals he wants to wrestle Sturt instead and dares him to come in!

Hawkins: Some bad blood still in the air Jim, Chopper Rourke hasn't forgotten how Sturt denied him a spot in the DIW Hardcore Championship tournament!

BJT: And Sturt doesn't look like he's into it, he's mocking Rourke!

Hawkins: Trying to get in his opponent's head?

BJT: That, plus Sturt will be wrestling Blitz Simpson in the first round of the tournament so he wants to stay fresh and do as much damage as he can to his future opponent.

Not happy at all with being overlooked, Dobberly slaps the snot out of Chopper Rourke and beats him down to get the match started proper as Lori cheers him on from ringside. As soon as he gets a chance though, Rourke rolls out of the ring to regroup. Dobberly follows…

*BANG!*

Hawkins: It's a trap!

BJT: Rourke lured him in and Dobberly ate that chair shot as unprotected as it can get!

Hawkins: Sturt rushes to the rescue, looks like that finally got under his skin...

BJT: But here comes Blitz Simpson too, this is a free for all now!

All four men brawl outside the ring, frequently grabbing anything they can get their hands on to swing as a weapon. Lori does her best to provide a distraction, but soon it's clear that Dobberly has been rocked by the chair shot. Just as the tide seems to turn against Pinn Enterprises...

GeS3wvL.jpg

Mace Mueller runs out to the rescue! His charge ends with a full-on punt kick to Rourke's head!

Hawkins: Chopper Rourke is out! That's the same move that injured Blitz Simpson last month!

BJT: Simpson noticed, but he's caught between Sturt and Mueller!

The two men gang up to beat down Simpson, but then...

x8AmxOz.jpg

Hawkins: It's Vaughan! They're too caught up to notice him!

BJT: Two can play this game and Vaughan wasn't going to just sit and watch his mates get pasted!

DOUBLE CHOKESLAM!

Vaughan takes out Mueller and Sturt in one fell swoop, while Blitz Simpson drags a staggering Wez Dobberly back into the ring...

Puts his feet on the second rope...

Lifting DDT!

Winners: The Barracudas

Hawkins: This match may be over, but the fight isn't and here comes Angus McMiller to assist the rest of Pinn's crew!

With the frantic ringing of the bell as a background, the two groups attack each other in a wild brawl in and out of the ring. The Barracudas have big bad Vaughn leading the group, but eventually the numbers game catches up to them and he gets hit with a sneaky low blow from behind, courtesy of Angus McMiller.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/eq07IKQBKQs" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

A new song hits the speakers of Marv's Sports Central, signalling the arrival of someone. Everyone's attention, fans' and that of Pinn's cronies is focused on the entrance...

And out comes a new face, wearing gloves and boxing shorts. His arms and torso are covered in tattoos and from looks alone, it is clear whose side he's on. Indeed, the new fighter takes to the ring and quickly cleans house, delivering precise blows to the ribs, kidneys and liver of his opponents to incapacitate them before throwing them out of the ring. The brawl ends with the Barracudas standing tall next to their newest member and everyone wondering who this is.

DIW Hardcore Championship Tournament Quarterfinal match

BkNOTvT.jpg25UZG0h.png7rMHJCs.jpgwGPbyjxE.jpg

Mayhem Mulhoney vs Angus McMiller (with Lori)

This match officially kicks off the DIW Hardcore Championship Tournament but not the way Angus McMiller would like as, despite his best effort to stay away from the action and wrestle fresh, he comes into the match with his body and his spirit damaged by the brawl earlier. Likewise, Lori is spent and unfocused due to everything that preceded the match, thus unable to offer much help to McMiller. However, Mulhoney doesn't capitalize on the opportunity; instead, he looks angered, almost insulted by McMiller's lackluster fighting spirit. Again and again, he shouts at him to stand back up, dares him to give him "something" and even offers a few unprotected shots, something you'd probably expect to see from a BHOTWG or PGHW wrestler. McMiller is all to happy to exploit any opening, but just can't bring the wild man down and after ten or so minutes of back and forth action, Mulhoney looks fed up and switches gears for a sequence that ends with his Cradle Powerslam finisher.

THREE!

Winner: Mayhem Mulhoney

ozLd3Bm.jpg

Hawkins: Mulhoney advances! I bet McMiller's regretting his involvement in the fight before this match...

BJT: This leaves Vance Sturt as the only member of Pinn Enterprises still in the tournament!

A pre-recorded message airs on the screen and speakers. Miss Cerizabeth is standing on the side of Blaze Maximum.

Blaze: "Oooooh yeah... Now that is a worthy opponent for Blaze Maximum, yeah... I'm in the DIW Hardcore Championship title now and only a KING would be worthy opposition, mmmmmyeah.... Kinnnng Malietoa, they call him... wild crazy man from the islands... but is he wild and crazy to the maximum, hmmm?"

MC: "King Malietoa! This is one crown you can't have... because my client here is destined to be the DIW Hardcore champion and there's nothing you, or anyone else for this matter can do to stop him!"

DIW Hardcore Championship Tournament Quarterfinal match

vApnSqU.jpg25UZG0h.png03kQWar.jpg

Hell's Jester vs Milton Hittlespitz

Main event time and the intensity of the clash from the opening bell sets the tone in a match that's not only part of the DIW Hardcore Championship Tournament but also a very personal case, following the debut of Hell's Jester and the beating he gave to Milton Hittlespitz. The two lock up and trade short-range blows from the start of the match to a standstill. After a brief pause to regroup and think this through, the two wrestlers hit the ropes and run around, eventually colliding in the middle to start a chain sequence of rolls and flips, again with neither clearly gaining any ground until Milton dodges a lariat and slides out of the ring to grab a steel chair! Not to be outdone, Hell's Jester rolls out on the other side and also grabs a chair. The two meet back in the ring and start swinging, the metallic sound of chairs clashing as neither man is able to land a clean hit on his opponent.

Hawkins: Talk about a match that's right down the middle, Jim!

BJT: It's a mirror match, Dean. Everything one man can do, the other can do too, and equally well.

Frustrated with the stalemate, the two wrestlers throw the chairs at each other (which end up clashing one last time mid air in the middle of the ring) and slide back out. Apparently they both have the same idea to go for a table and they're down to a race over who can set it up first. Finishing almost at the same time, they lock up in the middle of the ring as they try to whip each other. It's reversal after reversal, until Hell's Jester decides to switch his game and instead of reversing, allows the whip but maintains wrist control, dragging Milton with him.

Oh my God! C-4 over the top rope!

THEY BOTH GO THROUGH THE TABLE!

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6b5czixF1dg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Lights switch to a multi-coloured splash of everything and a hypnotic tune takes over the speakers. Indian lyrics fade in and at the top of the entrance ramp, a man walks out...

FVXGXE7.jpg

Hawkins: What the... that's Guru Vishni!

BJT: As if this match wasn't enough of a comedy already... What's he doing here?!?

Hawkins: Wait, wasn't he and Jester both in that NZ group?

The Guru's presence, combined with the effect of his music and light show seems to have an effect over Hell's Jester, who rises out of the debris with renewed vigor. As if spellbound, he drags the semi-unconscious body of Milton Hittlespitz back to the ring...

Punchline!

Cover!

One…

Two…

THREE!

Winner: Hell's Jester

ozLd3Bm.jpg

FVXGXE7.jpgvApnSqU.jpg

With a satisfied smile to his face, the Guru grabs a mic and slides into the ring. He and Hell's Jester stand tall over the defeated Milton Hittlespitz.

Guru: "Do you mongrels believe in enlightenment and tranquility?

Too bad... because I'm here to bring darkness and chaos!"

As if to drive the point home, Hell's Jester and the Guru attack the already helpless Hittlespitz, then the Guru pulls a fork out of his robes and drives it into Milton's forehead! It doesn't take long for things to get bloody and the vicious duo holds up their victim's bloodied face for all to see as they strike a pose next to him. Fan heat slowly turns into legitimate hatred and the Guru fans the flames by flipping the audience off. Just before an all out riot is about to go down, Hell's Jester and the Guru retreat, flipping off the audience one last time before going behind the curtain to end the show.

Author's note Hey everyone, bet you thought this had fizzled out... Well I have news for you, it hasn't! A combination of holidays and actual work kept me from writing this for what feels like forever, plus the expanded format isn't helping make things easy, but I'm back baybay! Take some time to drop a comment, let me know how you liked the show, new faces, tournament predictions or whatever you feel like writing about.

This is great! Glad to see it come back.

Thanks, I'm pretty excited to keep it going myself! DIW and ZEN and my favourite promotions in the region and while I appreciate a Comedy-based promotion, I could never book and write one proper. I have a pretty clear vision of how I want to run the company, what stories I want to tell etc so this won't be fizzling out anytime soon, unless some RL stuff holds me back.

While I'm cooking up the next episode of Violent Delight, here's how the tournament brackets look so far:

<p>Good to see the diary is back. </p><p> </p><p>

I love the Macho Blaze and Cerizibeth also Jester and Guru two guys I am super surprised to see show up on a DIW show. </p><p> </p><p>

Blaze will beat King comfortably imo just due to his fame, stance on the card and behavioural issues that King has. (Also while writing this, I love the idea of naming him just King) </p><p> </p><p>

Sets up a match with Jester and Blaze that could honestly have been the finals and a way to establish both new guys on the roster. With a manager each, shenanigans are bound to happen. Still after Jesters Main Event appearance with strong win against a guy who I believe is the future of DIW and would be primed to get a midcard title run to establish himself. I think that means Jester forces his way to the finals. </p><p> </p><p>

Flip side of the bracket, hard to call a winner between Blitz and Sturt with possibly the new addition to The Barracudas being the edging vote. I believe the new addition is Gareth Case (I remember seeing it in the re render thread.) In which case I am hyped. I loved the guy in my own diary Sunny Shore Wrestling where he was able to just be a beat stick against folks. Good pick up and a rookie who suits DIW nicely. </p><p> </p><p>

So with Blitz vs Mulhoney it just makes sense for the antics of Pinn Incoporated to continue and to mess up the contest giving Mulhoney the win. </p><p> </p><p>

Setting the stage for a Jester v Mulhoney ME. Which as much as I like Mulhoney I think Jester continues to build up his momentum still.</p>

Jester is one of my favourite aussie workers, he can do both hardcore and high flying stuff, so he's a great fit for DIW especially after I increased the Daredevil aspect of the product, plus I love a good psycho clown gimmick and his table breaking thing brings back memories of Sabu. The Guru is there to help me tell a story and hopefully, it'll be one of DIW's major arcs.</p><p> </p><p> Don't wanna spoil any tounament outcomes, but that man is Gareth Case indeed, who I figured will fit the concept of the Barracudas well and that's one of King Bison's many awesome re-renders, as is Mulhoney, Vance Sturt, Mace Mueller etc. Apparently he had a rush of inspiration and re-did a lot of my roster, so I thank him very much for it.</p>

<p>So sorry for another long winded post. I was originally going to just quickly talk about the members not in the tournament and touch on those guys, but will quickly reply to your response. </p><p> </p><p>

Firstly, I definitely agree with the comparison of Blaze and Macho, but Ceribeth as a whole is just something so amazing. It will definitely become a go to idea if I sign Blaze in the future. Even if I have a hard time liking Ceri after Dave's Dynasty involving her. </p><p> </p><p>

As for the renders, I definitely noticed the King Bison style in them. I love Dumfrey Pinn, Mace Mueller and The Barracuda's renders a lot as well. I am not sold on Tombstone (Just feels to different, comes across more crazy than bad ass) and Gareth Case's (In my mind of his default pic he has like awkward cornrows) pics too much. But they are still amazingly done. I hope Gareth Case gets a chance to shine, beyond being another slab of muscle in the Barracudas. Excited to see how ZEN Alumni evolve into a DIW storyline. I also love Guru's render. It seems less spirtual/monk like but he looks like a baller in those shades.</p><p> </p><p>

Now onto touching on the rest of the roster. </p><p> </p><p>

GOODBYE CESAR YOU WILL NOT BE MISSED! I have tried and tried to work with him but it never works out. He is a pain in the ass, I mean sure King does drugs but he has usually worked out well for me. Lakatos being free of him, and also in a new stable, curious who it will be is great things for the guy. Australian Devil is a great asset who could play the Milton Hittlespitz role if he gets to move up the card. Oh and with the Daredevil bump helping him, and I hope it also helps Mr. ECP. The high flying, the electrifying, the death defying, human highlight reel, that is Mr. E! C! P!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Dumfrey has a sick intro song (Peaky What!?!?!) and Vance Sturt has AJ Styles hair!</p>

Once again, thank you for your comments. I know how the presentation of certain characters in some dynasties can be defining in people's perceptions of them, so reading about Ceri is high praise indeed. Case felt like a perfect fit for the Barracudas and they really needed a fourth member to even the odds against Pinn's group. As for the Guru's re-render, that's actually supposed to be for that other Guru in the US and not Vishni, but I'm using it regardless because it perfectly fits the tone I'm trying to nail with him as an enlightened psychopath mastermind.

Cesar was actually decent, this is certainly the most shows I've had him around for and he didn't even cause a single incident, which is indeed rare for this backstage cancer. However, the product tweak really limited his performance and with the influx of new people, he ended up on the very bottom of the roster, with a wage and performance that really didn't justify him sticking around. Malietoa is kind of the mandatory Samoan wildman (this is Australia, after all) and as for the high flyers, I think the change in product definition gives them more room to really be something in DIW.

Nice to see this back up and running. I really enjoy following these hooligans, clearly I am awful at predicting your booking.

I would much rather have you enjoy this while being awful at predicting my booking, rather than have you be spot-on with predictions and feel this is boring.

Still alive here folks, next episode is almost written up. Once I'm done with writing out the main event match and formatting it all, which should be early next week, I'll be posting the next episode. Stay tuned!

The Comedian vs “The Human Weapon” Rob Edwards

Rob Edwards does a full-on MMA entrance, complete with a ring robe and two men leading him to the ring. Is magnificence however interrupted by the Comedian, who rushes out with a shovel and takes out all three men as he swings wildly from behind, before dropping the shovel to brawl with Edwards all the way down to ringside. Caught by surprise, Edwards can do little besides take all kinds of crazy weapon shots from the Comedian, who uses anything he can get his hands on against the young fighter while yelling profanities about this being “f**king wrestling” and trash talking those “cage fight monkeys” in between. Fans eat it all up and the show is off to a rowdy start, unlike the match that is never off to an official start. It is only after The Comedian has dished out enough punishment to bloody Rob Edwards all over that he rolls him into the ring just to deliver his Running Powerslam finisher and mockingly cover him for the pin.

Winner: The Comedian

M4SOg7D.jpg

After the match is over, The Comedian kicks Edwards out of the ring and demands a microphone.

Comedian: “TOMBSTONE!”

The Comedian points to a bloodied Rob Edwards who is being helped to his feet by the ringside crew.

Comedian: “THIS IS WHAT’S COMIN’ TO YA!”

Fans cheer at the notion of a match between Tombstone and The Comedian. DIW’s founder lets them savour the excitement as he lights up a post-fight cigarette.

Comedian: “Because the W in DIW….”

The Comedian takes a long drag from his cigarette for a dramatic pause…

Comedian: “STANDS FOR WRESTLING!”

Hawkins: Quite the statement from DIW’s Icon, both in his match and his words, what do you think Jim?

BJT: I’m thinking he’s out to prove a point, Dean. He just declared war on all these young MMA imports!

Highlights from DIW Devil’s Playground are shown on the screen above the wrestlers’ entrance, specifically the match between the Ares Death Cult and the Bad Truckers over the DIW Tag Team titles. The video ends with Big Rig and Diesel Dan holding the titles up in the air while a graphic appears to inform newer fans that this victory marks the beginning of their fourth reign as DIW Tag Team champions.

"The Hungarian Bulldozer" Gyula Lakatos vs King Malietoa

Lacking both Cesar Sionis on his side and the DIW Tag Team title on his shoulder, Lakatos hits the ring looking fired up and ready to inflict some pain. King Malietoa takes his time to get between the ropes, all the while giving his scheduled opponent a menacing grin. The bell rings and it’s a tug of war between the two heavyweights as they trade stiff chops and forearm blows with neither giving way until Lakatos foolishly tries to surprise Malietoa with a headbutt.

Hawkins: Unorthodox offense from The Hungarian Bulldozer there, but I think it backfired!

BJT: Never hit a Samoan in the head, Dean…

As if awakened from slumber and barely feeling the effects of Lakatos’ blow, Malietoa explodes in a huge headbutt of his own that finally drops his opponent!

Hawkins: Malietoa going for the Throne Splash, he wants to wrap this up fast!

Missed it!

Lakatos rolled away and he’s out of the ring! Malietoa is still reeling from that missed Throne Splash! And here comes Lakatos with… a screwdriver?!?

He’s carving up Malietoa’s forehead! The Samoan is bloodied all over his face! And Lakatos is enjoying it!

Choke Bomb time…

Can’t lift him up!

Headbutt from the bloodied Malietoa! Lakatos is down!

Throne Splash! That’s it! Cover!

One…

Two…

THREE!

Winner: King Malietoa

7nXiDsK.jpg

Hawkins: What resilience from Malietoa! While wearing the crimson mask, nonetheless!

BJT: He’s won tonight, but I’m curious to see how the toll of this match affects his future tournament performance, Dean.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6b5czixF1dg" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe>

FVXGXE7.jpg

With King Malietoa gone, the Guru grabs a mic and enters the ring to face the defeated Lakatos.

Guru: “My child… I can tell you are lost. You lost your championship, you lost your teammate and now you lost this match…. However, I can tell you have potential… Join me, The Guru of Gore…”

The (self-proclaimed) Guru of Gore offers a handshake to Lakatos…

Hawkins: Looks like Lakatos already found some new allies, Jim!

BJT: He was in Ares Death Cult, Dean. I think he’ll fit just fine in this new cult this… Guru of Gore seems to be building.

After a moment of hesitation...

Lakatos takes the handshake! The two men pose for a moment before they retreat backstage together

The Barracudas vs Pinn Enterprises Ltd (with Lori)

A real mess of a match to call, this was another chapter in the ongoing rivalry between the two groups as well as the in-ring debut of the newest Barracudas member, who was officially revealed as “The Serial Killer” Gareth Case. Highlights of this chaotic brawl include Chopper Rourke getting slammed with a Boss-A-Nova onto a bunch of thumbtacks, Gareth Case surviving for almost a full minute in Dobberly’s Full Nelson while being choked with barb wire and Vaughan chokeslamming Wez Dobberly off the apron onto a discarded part of the ringside barricade. By the end, it is clear that for all his toughness, Case is still learning to work together with the rest of his group, unlike their opponents; Pinn gave the orders, Dobberly was the muscle and the sneaky McMiller took every cheap shot he could. In the end, the corporation’s tricks got the best of Case and he was surprised with a roll up from Dobberly who won the match for Pinn Enterprises Ltd.

Winners: Pinn Enterprises Ltd.

Another pre-recorded video airs next

MC: “Hello DIW fans, I am Miss Cerizabeth and I am so happy my many talents are finally getting some recognition in this dump. You see, I’ve been doing such a great job managing my client, Blaze Maximum, I was also given the power to interview people on the roster and what better way to celebrate my promotion than interviewing the DIW Champion himself, Tombstone!”

DE0wmcP.jpg

Tombstone: “Comedian! Is this some kind of joke? Because I’m not laughing! I don’t recall asking for your help against Pinn, or your validation of my fighting style… but most of all, I don’t recall asking for a match with you. I’m grateful for it, though… because I’m gonna have an opportunity to kick your ass all the way into retirement!”

MC: “That’s all good, but the fans are dying to know one other thing: if you lose your title in this match, will you try to reclaim it or will you challenge the inevitable DIW Hardcore champion and my client, Blaze Maximum? No, wait, I have a better idea: if you retain, would you put it on the line in a champion versus champion match against him?”

Tombstone: “You’re outta your g***amn mind, lady…”

DIW Hardcore Championship Tournament Quarterfinal match

Blitz Simpson vs Vance Sturt (with Lori)

Sturt makes his entrance with Lori wrapped around his arm but is attacked by a charging Blitz Simpson and the match is already off to a hot start as the announcing team try to recap it all: this is a personal rivalry as much as it is a group rivalry, on top of this being a tournament match and both men being the only representatives left in it for their respective groups!

Unlike the Barracudas' usual M.O., Simpson presses his early advantage and lays into his opponent with all sorts of strikes in a proper prison yard beatdown, not wasting any time to bother with bringing weapons into the fight. Instead, it's Lori who cleverly slides in a chair when Simpson hits a Russian Legsweep!

Hawkins: Simpson landed right onto that chair!

BJT: That right there just changed the momentum of the match, Dean. Sturt was the one supposed to take the worst of that move, but Lori shook it up in favor of her man.

Unlike Simpson, Vance Sturt isn't shy at all about using weapons and slams that chair a few more times onto Simpson's damaged back, before moving away to line up his High Knee finisher.

Hawkins: Incoming...

Reversal! Simpson whips Sturt into the corner!

Hawkins: He threw him to the corner before he could connect! And Sturt landed knee first onto the buckles!

Simpson recovers the steel chair and looks to trap Sturt's knee in it... Stomps it! Sturt is screaming in pain! He might be injured!

Simpson's putting his legs on the second rope! Will it be the Lifting DDT to end this?

He's dragging the chair too where he intends to drop Sturt's head!

Lori grabbed a drink from a fan's hand in the front row!

She spits in Simpson's face! He's blinded!

Sturt is limping away!

He throws that chair at Simpson! And Blitz is holding it, but he still can't see a thing!

High Knee!

Hawkins: Sturt hit it with his bad leg, but it was amplified by that chair being there!

BJT: Cover! Simpson may be out after that blow!

One…

Two…

THREE!

I also really loved seeing some Aussie bands as entrance music as it should be I haven't heard Rose Tattoo in ages

If the diary's title wasn't obvious enough, Rose Tattoo and that song specifically are the main inspiration for this. I've been wanting to do it for a long time, but kept delaying it until I was 100% sure, as I do have a tendency of stretching myself over too many diaries and letting some of them fizzle out eventually. As for the rest of the Aussie bands.... I mean, it just makes sense, doesn't it?

I missed this originally but have just read through - awesome stuff! Loving the ex-ZEN guys in particular, although Blaze and Cerizabeth are also fantastic.

Hello there, nice to have you around and thank you for your words of encouragement! The ex-ZEN guys are a major part of this thing and I'm really hoping Blaze's PED habit and poor backstage attitude don't ruin what seems to be some great things coming his way with this character.

All fired up for a win after getting knocked out of the DIW Hardcore Championship Tournament, Milton Hittlespitz hits the ring running with his trademark chair in hand. Hittlespitz hits the ropes again, but Lori grabbed his foot! The ensuing argument provides Mueller with enough time to recover and grab his opponent from behind for an inverted DDT! AustralianDevil & The Void vs House of Horrors (Hell’s Jester & Satan’s Spawn, with the Guru of Gore)</strong></p><p>

Apparently Guyla Lakatos has been rebranded as “Satan’s Spawn” and from the looks of it, he’s taking it real serious. It is also announced that this new group around the Guru of Gore is called “House of Horrors” which won’t win any prizes for being original, but it gets the point across.</p><p> </p><p>

The Guru himself seems busy trying to distract or recruit Australian Devil, but a quick suicide dive in the first minute of the match settles it and off to the races we go in a truly chaotic mess of a hardcore match. Meanwhile, Satan’s Spawn literally takes a bite out of the Void’s calf muscle; it’s a gruesome, bloody scene made even worse by the fact that the Void barely seems to react. He does seem to be legitimately injured for the rest of the match though, which makes his expressionless face come across as all the more creepy. He even tries to put Hell’s Jester through a table when his leg caves in, causing both men to clumsily crash through the table. This takes them both out of the match, leaving Satan’s Spawn to pummel Australian Devil senseless before he delivers a Choke Bomb for the pin.</p><p>

King Malietoa vs Blaze Maximum (with Miss Cerizabeth)</strong></p><p>

Malietoa is a sight to behold, the tribal designs on his face meshing with the scars from last week’s bloody match against the wrestler formerly known as Gyula Lakatos. If nothing else, it adds to his intensity and menacing aura as he charges his opponent again and again. Blaze Maximum easily dodges every charge, to the point where he starts throwing in taunts or a little dance after each evasion, much to the delight of Miss Cerizabeth at ringside.</p><p> </p><p>

Frustrated, Malietoa changes his approach and walks up to Blaze, exploding in a series of crunching chops that back him into a corner! An avalanche is followed by a big headbutt and Malietoa drops into the cover.</p><p> </p><p>

The Comedian & Mayhem Mulhoney vs Tombstone & Vance Sturt (with Lori)</strong></p><p>

The entrances alone are enough to establish the conflict in this match: the Comedian and Mayhem Mulhoney come out together, looking like they’re on the same page, while Tombstone and Sturt appear separately, the DIW Champion wary of Dumfrey Pinn’s chief lieutenant.</p><p> </p><p>

The tension escalates throughout the match and eventually boils over, when Vance Sturt straight up abandons his teammate and walks away, shouting something about “not being paid to do this”. Tough as he may be, Tombstone just can’t win a 2 on 1 fight against the two hardcore veterans and eventually gets hit with a Running Powerslam from the Comedian for the pin.</p><p>

<strong>Winners: The Comedian & Mayhem Mulhoney</strong></p><p>

<img alt="rCrbMWQ.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/rCrbMWQ.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="x8AmxOz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/x8AmxOz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Vance Sturt’s retreat is interrupted by the massive form of Vaughan blocking his way. While the match is going on, the leader of the Barracudas grabs Sturt for a chokeslam onto the floor, before putting the boot to him in retaliation for him injuring Simpson.</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="jds8yup.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/jds8yup.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Eventually, Dumfrey Pinn himself rushes out to tackle Vaughan as the two massive men roll around and trade punches. Meanwhile, the match ends and as soon as the bell rings, Mulhoney and the Comedian join the fray to beat down Pinn. A battered Tombstone stands up in the ring moments later, notices what’s going on and gritting his teeth, walks down to sneak in a few shots on Sturt, before putting the Comedian in the Rear Naked Choke. The show ends with all six men brawling all over the place, to the point where the lights have to be killed out in hopes of breaking this up</p><p> </p><p>

<p>Vance Sturt is set up to be a beast and a strong upset in the tournament in the next round when he beats Mulhoney to punch his finals ticket. Blaze is also looking good, and while not an upset, Malietoa has been looking good throughout the diary. So it is a stronf building win for him to move on. I think Gurus new stable does him in in the end to see up Jester vs Vance in the finals. </p><p> </p><p>

While I am not surprised that Samoan Demolition are signed on as a pair, but the single man debut initially, and having it be King Malietoa who is realistically the weaker of the two in the ring. These guys can dominate the tag team scene.</p>

The show begins with Big Jim Teasdale making an entrance which, like every time he does that instead of already being at the announce table, is a sign that he has something to say. Teasdale pulls out a table from under the ring, much to the delight of bloodthirsty fans, slides it into the ring and sets it up.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> <span style="font-family:'Courier New';">“Alright… Now, as you all know, I’m responsible for making the matches happen here in Deep Impact Wrestling and there’s something I have in mind for the main event of Sucker Punch tomorrow, so Tombstone… Comedian… get your asses out here!”</span></p><p> </p><p>

Tombstone comes out first, carrying the DIW Championship belt on his shoulder. He cracks his neck left and right, then his knuckles and makes his way to the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

The Comedian is out next, the ever-present scowl on his face and cigarette on his lips.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> <span style="font-family:'Courier New';">“I could just make this match go down anyway, but I wanted to bring you out here instead, make the announcement and have you agree upon it…. Hell, if this was sports entertainment you’d be signing a contract on this here table, but we’re all men of our word. So, I’ve been trying to think of ways how to make your match more exciting, but also equally challenging for both… Now, Tombstone… you want to drop all that weapon stuff and have a proper fight, like a boxing match or MMA bout, right?”</span></p><p> </p><p>

Tombstone simply nods in agreement.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> <span style="font-family:'Courier New';">“And you, Comedian… You’ve been running your mouth about fighters like Tombstone here… You’d like to see him do some real hardcore wrestling, right?”</span></p><p> </p><p>

The Comedian takes a long drag from his cigarette, then also nods in agreement.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> <span style="font-family:'Courier New';">“I was on the phone with Robert Oxford in Colorado the other night… I asked him how I could compromise these two things and he had the best of ideas for me…</span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:'Courier New';">

A Taipei Deathmatch!”</span></p><p> </p><p>

Fans cheer, while Tombstone and Comedian never lose eye contact with each other.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> <span style="font-family:'Courier New';">“We’re gonna tape your fists and dip them in superglue… then a box of shattered glass. That way you, Comedian, will have to fight with your fists. No weapons, no kicks, no dives… just fisticuffs! And you, Tombstone, if you wanna call yourself the DIW Champion… you can’t keep dodging this kind of stuff, mate. Now, do we have an understanding?”</span></p><p> </p><p>

Tombstone and the Comedian nod with a nasty grin on their faces. Well aware of what could happen next, Teasdale inserts his massive frame between them and orders them to save it for Sucker Punch; the wrestlers leave and Teasdale assumes his position in the announcers’ table as the opening segment gives way to the first match of the night.</p><p> </p><p>

The Bad Truckers vs Australian Devil & East Coast Panther</strong></p><p>

It’s back in town, back in action for the two massive truckers against the fast and high flying pairing of Australian Devil and East Coast Panther. The smaller team tries to take the champions by surprise and kick off the match with a stereo suicide dive onto the Truckers as they approach the ring. This sets the tone for the match, a chaotic mess of weapon spots and daredevil stunts with the Truckers getting most of the offense in what turns out to be a glorified squash. Panther gets hit with the Big Rig and it’s a wrap.</p><p>

<strong>Winners: The Bad Truckers</strong></p><p>

King Malietoa and The Brisbane Devil’s faces are shown above the entrance ramp, the image morphing into a graph that informs the audience that Samoan Demolition will be wrestling The Bad Truckers at DIW Sucker Punch tomorrow for the DIW Tag Team titles.</p><p> </p><p>

The leader of the Barracudas comes out glaring at Pinn and quickly makes his way to the ring to get in his face.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Pinn:</strong> <span style="font-family:'Courier New';">“Whoa there, easy Vaughan… I know we’ve had our differences, but I’m not here to fight. I come you with a deal, a mutually beneficial one, of course… win-win, ya know? See, I understand some of your crew are in the hospital, courtesy of Pinn Enterprises Ltd… and you want vengeance. As a wrestler, I understand that… but as a businessman, I have made a serious investment in Vance Sturt and I want to limit the risk of you Barracudas messing it up. Blaze with the elbow drop… and another… now he’s climbing the ropes to drop the third one...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:14px;">Guru shook the rope! Throws him off balance!</span></p><p> </p><p>

Hell’s Jester is now on the offensive… he’s brawling Blaze across the ring and into the opposite corner. Is he building up for the Punchline… no, seems to regret it!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> What’s he doing?! Finish it!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> Looks like Hell’s Jester is obsessed with putting Blaze through that table, Jim!</p><p> </p><p>

Blaze with a desperate headbutt to the mid section… creates some separation...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Hawkins:</strong> Blaze Maximum advances to the tournament finals! Look at Miss Cerizabeth, she’s going mental!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> Looks like the Guru of Gore needs to enlighten his Jester on wrestling tactics Dean, that was a wasted opportunity there, he could have been the one to advance if he wasn’t so…</p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;">*CRASH!*</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> What the hell?!? Jester just dove onto a table on his own! This match is over!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> He’s obsessed, I’m telling you!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> And the fans are loving it!</p><p> </p><p>

Mayhem Mulhoney vs Vance Sturt (with Lori)</strong></p><p>

The first few minutes of the match are spent in an intense staredown. Sturt talks some trash right into Mulhoney’s face and the veteran responds with a big headbutt straight into Sturt’s forehead!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> Mulhoney is a man of action, not words</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> Sturt should be taking this more seriously Dean, he’s in there with a former DIW Champion and a legitimate maniac!</p><p> </p><p>

Mulhoney is quick to drag a surprised Sturt to his corner and choke him with the chain he brings to the ring! With Sturt gasping for air, Mulhoney wraps the chain around his fist and lays several shots into Sturt’s forehead...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><span style="font-size:14px;"><span style="color:#FF0000;">Sturt is busted open!</span></span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Lori is screaming! And Mayhem Mulhoney is pasting Sturt’s blood across his own face!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> He’s licking his fingers Jim, this madman is loving this!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> And fans love him for it, there has never been such a thing as an unexciting match with this man involved!</p><p> </p><p>

Shots to the gut as Sturt tries to fight back… drops into a Jawbreaker! Mulhoney’s surprised and Sturt is searching for that chain…</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> Uh oh, payback time...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:14px;">Sturt is whipping Mulhoney with the chain!</span></p><p> </p><p>

Mulhoney is down to one knee… and Sturt is lining up the High Knee...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="DE0wmcP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DE0wmcP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> What is Tombstone doing here?!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> I think he owes Sturt one for abandoning him during last week’s tag match, Dean!</p><p> </p><p>

<span style="font-size:14px;">Tombstone slides into the ring behind Sturt and puts him in the Rear Naked Choke!</span></p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Hawkins:</strong> I think you’re right Jim, Tombstone is after Sturt!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>BJT:</strong> Pinn made a deal with the Barracudas but apparently he didn’t think about Tombstone!</p><p> </p><p>

With Vance Sturt gasping for air, Tombstone rolls out of the ring as Mulhoney closes in to pick up his opponent...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

<p>There you have it folks, Historian won the prediction contest for Devil's Playground and requested a Taipei Deathmatch. I know it was supposed to be the stipulation for the DIW Hardcore Championship Tournament final, but I forgot and put it in the main event instead. Oh well, it fits the story and the importance of the match, right?</p><p> </p><p>

Here's the card for Sucker Punch, winner gets to pick who I write a narrative about next.</p><p> </p><p>

<p>Reading this the Hilltop Hoods "What a Great Night" keep going through my mind - great job on capturing that sense of anarchy DIW stands for. </p><p> </p><p>
