Foolinc explores TEW 2020 (and so can you) - Intro to TEW2020

Recommended Posts

What is this?

When a new version of TEW releases, there is always a surge of interest in the game as regulars, lapsed fans, and new comers a like start to see what this game is all about. This diary is meant to be a collection of my thoughts of the game as well as be a mini-tutorial of sorts for those that might want additional context, advice, and/or examples of play.

I'm not sure how long this will go on for, but my initial goals are to create and run the first shows of a new promotion as well as take a look at an established promotion as well as take an established promotion for a spin.

Before getting started

Before diving into the game, I wanted to mention a couple good resources that can improve your time with TEW.

Total Extreme Wrestling 2020 Mods
: While I am a big fan of the C-Verse, the mod community is the real reason why I've gotten as much enjoyment from this series as I have. Getting tired of the C-Verse? The mod community will (eventually) be able to offer a different sandbox to play in (whether it's another fictional database, like the Thunderverse, or a real world mod - current day, historical, or even a fantasy mash-up). There are also people creating new skins for the game as well as new renders to use for your workers, titles, and promotions.

Index of Promotion Tip/Discussion Threads
: There are a lot of passionate people that play this game, and with passion comes discussion. A lot of the time that discussion gets lost in the mass of posts, making this thread a great resource when it comes to running specific promotions (usually the C-Verse). There will also usually end up being some links to other topics as time goes on. At the time of this post, there is a link to a thread surrounding the popular "Road to Glory" challenge.

Total Extreme Wrestling 2020 Tech Support
: As of this post we are still in the beta/demo period of TEW 2020, and as such there will be a number of issues that will be fixed and features tweaked in the coming days. While some will find the change log interesting, the biggest reason to come here is to download the latest patch for the game. This is especially critical while we are in the early stages as we will be seeing patches implemented on a regular basis.

General Gameplay Questions Thread
: When you have a specific question about the game, this is a good first place to look. The thread can be a bit hard to parse though, especially as the game matures, so don't stress too much about asking a question that's already been answered.

Imgur
: This one is less for people wanting to play TEW as much as it is for people wanting to create a diary on these forums. There are many image hosting sites, but this is the one I ended up using after PhotoBucket started asking for money.

Picking a User Character

After naming your save (and selecting your active regions), the first thing you need to do is pick your user character. Each database will usually come with a selection of default user characters to chose from, but if you hit the "Avatars Only" button, you can pick any active worker in the game. There really isn't a bad choice when picking a user character, so take whatever calls out to you. That said, I might recommend sticking to the default selection of user characters for a first time player as it can limit the potential amount of analysis paralysis.

<img src="
width="912px" />

A couple of things to note:

• When it comes to choosing a user character, treat active regions for each worker only as a guideline. The active regions for a worker don't apply to the user character. The game isn't going to stop you from selecting The Masked Avatar and then running a promotion outside of the United States and Canada.

• I'm not 100% sure, but from prior experience, you should be able to ignore the personality attribute tags (the ones that affect morale). Usually those types of effects are handled by the user talents and other in-game ratings. The attributes surrounding roles and match types probably still are active for the user character though.

• Your user character will both work for free as well as never have morale problems. While the former is nice for companies with financial problems, the morale penalty is especially handy for those choosing a wrestler (can't complain about doing the job when you are the one deciding who goes over).

After you've settled on a character, there are a couple more things to fret over:

• Starting reputation: Reputation is usually an AI stat, but as far as I know it helps you get hired by bigger companies as their booker as well setting the starting balance of your created promotions (a new feature to 2020).

• User Talents: These stats represent how good your character is at certain aspects of being an owner/booker, from signing talent to creating of getting gimmicks over to handling backstage incidents. I'd probably recommend giving your character 5s in all stats if you don't have a strong leaning one way or another. You can always change them up during your next play-through once you have a better handle on how 2020 operates. For example in TEW 2016, I always gave myself more points in negotiations when playing smaller promotions, something that might not be an issue this time around.

• Preferences: There are a lot of options within the preferences to the point that it could be overwhelming. The good news is that these can be changed at any time, so don't worry about it. I've added my settings below for reference. The biggest choice for me was unselecting "Enable new-style coloured lists" because it allows me to use my scroll wheel and arrow keys on a lot of the large lists including the worker pool.

For this playthrough, I will be using "The Grand Avatar", forcing his reputation to "lowest" and 5s for all user talents. The Grand Avatar doesn't offer anything to the table. He's a non-wrestler with little to zero stats and isn't going to help improve my promotion in any way. But that's also kind of the point of the character. Using him as your user character means your play would be just a bit harder. You neither have a free and 100% loyal wrestler to eat pins and/or lead your promotion nor will you have a rock solid announcer, ref, or road agent that will save you a bit of money.

It's the last point that made me pick The Grand Avatar. With this being my first time through 2020, I wanted to make the game a bit harder to help me see what is possible as well as what is different. It will also probably be the last time I will choose The Grand Avatar since I do find a lot of use in at the very least having a color commentator/manager type that can be apart of the initial announce team as well as an interviewer.

Side Note #1: India

You might have noticed when you started a new game that India by default is set to inactive. It's simple enough to turn the region when you create a new save, however you can set the region to be active by default. To do so you need to go into Editor (the screwdriver/wrench icon) and then click on Database Details (the second button on the bottom left of the screen).

The region is very sparse having only the bare bones amount of wrestlers to start the smallest of promotions. A tough, but potentially rewarding start for someone looking for a true challenge.

Creating a Promotion

After selecting the user character, you are taken the company select screen. The screen does a decent job showing all of the promotions at a glance and gives you options to filter the companies if you are looking for something in particular. It also gives you the options to play as an owner, booker, or start unemployed.

I'll be starting unemployed to create the promotion, but want to point out the main difference between being the owner and the booker. As a booker you will be given a number of goals to complete and rules to follow. Failing these will cause you to lose your job. In addition, the owner may also stop you from signing certain talent, change the product, and/or block you from make changes to the company.

When you are unemployed the bottom bar gives you a couple of buttons with most important ones being "Job Opportunities" and "Start Own Company". Oddly, there are no current job openings at the moment. Not sure if that's due to my lack of reputation or if that's just the way it is in this year's C-Verse. In any case, I want to start a new company anyway.

The opening page is pretty straight forward, asking for the name, initial, logo, and location of the promotion you are trying to create. There also is a dropdown for Schedule Strategy and Challenge Level. The schedule strategy is new to this series and I'm not too familiar with it, so I'm going to leave it on empty for now. I also don't know what type of schedule I want to run.

<img src="
width="912px" />

As for the challenge level, this sets the starting popularity and cash balance (the later of which is based in part by your starting reputation). I'll be setting my challenge rating to Rock Hard, which will give me a promotion with 10 popularity in my home region and $2,500.

The real meat of creating the company comes with the product tab. There is a lot going on, so let me break down some of the more important bits.

Core/Current Product:
These dropdowns are a new feature in 2020. In the past, you needed to set product types at certain levels, which while offering full customization, was probably more complicated than it needed to be. For example I still don't know what the point was for setting product types to Low and Very Low.

In any case, the effects of the product types will be seen in the bottom right of the screen (labelled "These setting give the following consequences:") and can help guide you in playing the type of promotion that you want to run. Each product type is going to have types of matches, angles, and gimmicks that it will favor as well one that it will penalize.

For this diary, I will be running the Classic Balanced product as it seems like the closest product that I could find for what I used to run in TEW 2016. The product doesn't like hardcore or eye candy type match ups, but that's fine because I didn't plan on running those types. Comedy based gimmicks having a cap is a bit of a downer, but I have no idea what a "Star" or "Major Star" really means, so it might not even matter.

If you are having trouble, settling on a product, there is also a search function that can help narrow down your selections. In addition, there is a neat feature that allows you to copy the product of another promotion. But the feature works best for people with some understanding of the database they are playing in.

Match/Angle Focus:
This is a new feature for 2020 that gives more flexibility to how your shows are graded. In 2016, your shows were weighted, giving 70% of the total grade to the main event, 20% to the highest match in the undercard, and 10% went to the average of the rest of the undercard. This is still the "default" option in 2020, but you also have Main Event Spotlight (90% main event), Three Ring Circus (average of top three matches), and Ensemble (40% main event, 40% best undercard, and 20% average of the rest).

Like the match focus, there are different options for how angles are weighted. Regular focus is how it was in 2016 with 70% of the total coming from the best angle, 20% coming from the second highest angle, and 10% from the 3rd, Tight Focus is 90% to the best angle and 10% to the second best, Highlights focus is the average of the best angles, and Consistent focus is the average of all of the angles.

I'm personally really excited to see how match focus works as there seems to be a lot of nice risk and reward with each option. Main event focus might seem like the way to go, but if that main event is bad the whole show is sunk. However the angles focus doesn't quite make as much sense to me. Tight focus seems like a far better option because all you need is one or two of your angles to be awesome.

Settling Boundaries

Now that we have a promotion, the next step is to sign some workers and get started working on your first events. But this is really were I think a lot of games get derailed in one of two ways. First, I've seen people rush off and sign everyone that they think looks good and end up bankrupting their company and/or creating a toxic workplace. The second is a big old case of analysis paralysis. The game is a sandbox and most database, the C-Verse included, can be vast.

In either case I find it helpful to set myself with a couple of guidelines to follow, at least when starting out. For example, an easy way to limit analysis paralysis is to limit the amount of workers that you are looking at. I've already done that in a way by choosing to play with an "insignificant" sized promotion. A good amount of the worker pool isn't going to want to work for a promotion of our size and it's probably going to be really hard, if not impossible to convince someone from another region to come to the States just for us. On top of that I also like to build my initial roster with unemployed wrestlers. This once again limits my focus as well as keeps my options open in terms of scheduling events. We are the smallest promotion in the game, so if someone works for another promotion, I'm forced to book around that.

Another example would be to set a couple of roles that you want to fill. Maybe you want a promotion built on a talented babyface? A hulking monster heel? A spooky faction? A high flying ace? In any case, any ideas you have, even if it's a small one, will help you pick out some of the roster. For me, a lot of the time I pick up a babyface that is smaller high flyer and a monster heel.

<img src="
width="912px" />

Speaking of analysis paralysis, let's talk about the Office. The 40 button block is a lot to take in, but you can make the process a whole lot more manageable by utilizing menu on the bottom of the screen. The menu has a couple of views, but the main one features 18 buttons that you can customize (the button with the Gear over the panels). What's really nice about this feature is that it is always around, meaning you can quickly check anyone of the items within the Office despite being on a different page (e.g. Companies, Workers, Broadcasters, etc.)

The final boundary I want to establish before signing some workers is the financial one, which can be found in the Size, Finance, and Ticket Prices buttons.

We are currently an "insignificant" promotion by TEW standards, the lowest size possible in this version. We aren't going to be able to sign anyone to an exclusive written deal, but that's really not a big deal as we aren't probably going to run enough shows enough to make that worth our while. We are however excluded for regional battles, which is awesome because we are probably going to be stomped on by biggest promotion and also don't have to worry about wrestling asking for a monthly downside.

Our promotion starts out with 10 popularity, which is in-line with how much popularity "Rock Hard" starts have had in the past. What's new is that it is going to take a bit more time to graduate to the next level "Tiny". In the past the jump to the second smallest promotion size (Small) happened at 11.0% importance (a weighted version of popularity), but in 2020 our goal is going to be getting a 17% popularity in the Great Lakes. I for one like the change as the jump into the regional battles could be extremely tough for a promotion in the low teens.

<img src="
width="912px" />

The finance screen at the moment is going to quite sparse as the main view shows a monthly summary. What I'm interested in is the financial estimates. It shows the monthly wage bill (combined monthly pay from written contracts and downsides), estimated sponsorship income, and estimated expense split out per month, event, and house show (though I don't think it's possible to run house shows until you hit a higher promotion size). The key takeaway is that we are expected to get around $5,500 in income from sponsors a month and our base expenses will be around $350 to $580 depending on if we run one or two shows a month.

The Ticket Price is a new feature for 2010. In 2016 (and the last number of versions), the ticket price was automatically generated based on a combination of your popularity and size (at least I think it was). In 2020, the ticket prices are also set based on your popularity, but there are dropdowns that allow you to set an overall pricing strategy: Premium, Normal, Cheap, Very Cheap, and Free with the last two options giving bonuses to popularity gains from good will. I'm kind of thinking that I might be set the tickets to free. Based on the 2016 finances, I could easily make a profit from the sponsorship money alone. And from Adam's notes, it seems like contracts are going to be cheaper.

But I want to see the workers first before deciding on a ticket strategy.

Beginning to sign your roster

I knew Adam said he reduced contract demands for this version, but in no way was ready for this. In 2016, contract demands were pretty large. For a promotion like ours, you'd probably have one or two main eventer making $700 to $900 a show, a couple of other key talent making around $500, and rest of the roster making around $200 to $300. It was tough, but doable (especially if you booked a couple of talents in more than one match). I expected to see the demands get cut in half at most, and that change would have made a world of difference. But as of beta patch #7, the changes are a "bit" more drastic as I am seeing demands as low as $20 a night.

Ok, now that I've have a chance to let this change sink in, I think I have a plan.

I planned to talk about how to get the best of your budget: things like how you don't really need an announce team and that if your wrestlers' psychology are good enough, you also don’t need a dedicated road agent. But with my budget being like 4 times bigger, these concepts are a lot less important now. We still need to be financially responsible, but it's good to know I can be a bit more frivolous if I want to. That said, gaining popularity at this level is usually pretty easy so I might just decide to run more shows or just pocket the money.

In my last post, I mentioned I'll be limiting myself to unemployed workers, and this change in budget isn't going to change that. In addition, I'm going to start my search by looking at the people who are currently based in the Great Lakes. While there are some minor financial benefits in signing people in your home region, this decision is just me further reducing my worker pool to make things as simple as possible. Also, it kind of makes sense that a new promotion would first take a look at their local talent pool.

<img src="
width="912px" />

Right off the bat, I see that we have a referee and announce team in Dale Kenney, Martin Theocott, and Stuart Ferdinand as well as three possible road agents in Freddie Datsun, Hardcare Killah, and Rick Sanders. I decided to shortlist Dale, Martin, and Stuart as well as Hardcore Killah. I picked Hardcore due to Freddie wanting $500 and Hardcore having the personality tag "Story Teller" in addition to him being a "Stalwart". Not sure how good the attributes are going to be, but I tend to prioritize my backstage staff to be positive influences.

Now let's look at the wrestlers:

Bob Casey:
He's 44, but looks to be a guy that could be a mentor to younger wrestlers with his high fundamentals and "giving performer" tag.

Conner Threepwood:
Conner's a really good technical wrestler. He's also pretty popular and isn't a bad promo. Seems like someone I could trust at the top of the card.

Ellie May Watson:
Ellie is a powerhouse and a veteran with 20 years of experience. She's not the best wrestler in the world, but you could do worse if you are looking to sign some female muscle. That said, I am a bit worried about her personality tags. "Grifter" makes it so that she'll start to act out if her morale is low and "Itchy Feet" makes it more likely she will want to leave our promotion.

Java:
I'm surprised to see Java as an active wrestler considering that he's 47. Going to pass on him for sure since he currently wants $1,300 per show.

Lazy Joe:
He's not a good worker and is nearing the end of his career, but he does have 16 popularity in the Great Lakes. Might be someone to bring in and take some pins.

Pepper Pelton:
Scouting makes it hard to know for sure, but Pepper looks like a really promising brawler. He also has a lot of positive attributes, including "People Person" and Positive Outlook". Instant hire.

Suzanne Brazzle:
She might be at the end of her career, but looks like she still has a lot left in the tank. A talented all-round performer, she can work with pretty much anyone and can talk for days. Brazzle is also the most over wrestler that isn't demanding over $1,000.

After shortlisting the entire group, I looked into the each one of the wrestler's bios and personal information to see if any of it will spark some inspiration. While there wasn't a lot to go on, I did get a couple of ideas:

Conner Threepwood:
Conner has been in a tag team with Crockett Tubbs and was the protégé of Acid. It looks like Crockett is working for NYCW right now, so I'm going to pass on him at the moment, but Acid is currently unemployed and looks to be a great addition to the top of our card. Acid also is the mentor of Acid II (who has a job with PSW). Looks like this could be an interesting feud (or alliance).

Suzanne Brazzle:
She doesn't have any personal connects, but one of the bigger stories within the C-Verse has been the closing of Suzanne's former home, AAA. Between her getting fire and her getting close to retirement, there seems like there is a story there.

Now that I have some direction, I think this is a good time to stop and see where we are financially:

At this rate, it looks like it would be possible to easily run three shows this month. Without going into debt. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Side Notes

• If you are also building a promotion in a similar fashion, please note that some people in the C-Verse are set to specific regions, while others are set to just a country. The latter will be set to a region randomly at the start of the game.

• You might have noticed that I said "shortlist" instead of "sign". That because I find it easiest to sign the workers at the end of this process. It keeps my options open.

• Going into debt isn't the worst thing in the world, especially for brand new promotions. Depending on the size of the promotion, you can go six months to three years in debt before the promotion will be forced to close. In addition, new promotions are given an additional grace period of a year.

With the beginnings of a roster in place, I am once again back to having a large worker pool and no direction. So let's give myself some direction by starting to map out the cards for this mini-diary. Yesterday, I mentioned that we can easily run three shows so three shows we shall run. I've also been watching a lot of Chikara and have realized their shows usually have around 7-8 matches over a period of around 2-3 hours. I don't see us hitting the 3 hour mark, but 8 matches seems doable. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

</span></div></div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><img src="</span></div></div></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png" rel="external nofollow"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png"</span></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png" rel="external nofollow"></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png" rel="external nofollow"></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Qea8bhW.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> /></span></div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

I know I wanted to crown some kind of a champion over the course of these events, so let's work on that. I'm booking three nights, making an 8-person single elimination knockout tournament very easy to pull off. The opening round is on night one, the semi-finals on night two, and the finals on night three. I also know that I want to see Conner and Acid in said tournament and would like to fill the rest of the field with wrestlers of similar caliber.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Next I want to book Suzanne Brazzle in a match on each night. I don't know what the matches will be or who she will face, but right now that doesn't matter. The women that wrestle Brazzle something to do when they aren't wrestling her, so I am going to add at least one other women's match to the card for each night. I also think it would be good to get another women on the same level as Brazzle.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

</span></div></div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><img src="</span></div></div></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png" rel="external nofollow"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png"</span></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png" rel="external nofollow"></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png" rel="external nofollow"></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/kyYndmZ.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> /></span></div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Looks like I now have a shopping list. Time to see who's available around the same level of popularity as Acid, Conner, and Suzanne (20-40 popularity in Great Lakes).</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

The results:</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Art Reed:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> He's listed as an occasional wrestler, but he's still really good in the ring and could be a backup road agent, assuming Hardcore isn't up for the task.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Gareth Wayne:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> He might be only about to brawl, but he can do that well and I like his background as a deathmatch worker.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Nathan Coleman:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> Nate is nearing 50 years old, but still looks good to me. Also is the former tag team partner of Stuart Ferdinand, so he has that connection going for him</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Paul Steadyfast:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> The best thing I can say about him is that he's popular. But I also have a soft spot for him due to using him in older versions.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Raphael:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> He can do it all. The only issue is that he's Prickly, which could lead to being toxic backstage if RNG is not with us. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Rayne Man:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> I might hate his ring name, but the man is in the prime of his life and can brawl, grapple, and talk better than most.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Devil's Daughter:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> She's in a similar place in life as Suzanne and has the in-ring skill to match. "Double D" is also listed as a manager, which gets me thinking. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Looking back at my haul, I've got to admit that a lot of my signings are due to prior experience with the C-Verse and wanting to use the older wrestlers one more time (especially Art Reed). And that's fine. You can hire someone for many different reasons. They might be hyper talented, they might remind you of a real world wrestlers, they might just have a cool render. It's all a valid way to play.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

With that the uppercard is settled on. Let's take a look at the finances before I end this update.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Yesterday I was able to complete the uppercard, so today I'll be looking to finish the roster by picking up a promising group of mostly rookies to fill out the rest of these shows. To help me get there I think it's a good time to work through more of the booking process. That way I know how many most wrestlers I actually need. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

As a refresher, night one currently has the four opening round contests and two women's matches, one of which is earmarked for Suzanne Brazzle. I think I want this Brazzle match to be a singles affair and against a young and up-and-coming babyface. It might seem weird to have a face vs. face match-up on your debut show, but I will be using it to set up a Brazzle/Devil's Daughter confrontation which in turn will set up a tag team match on night two and a singles match between the two vets on night three.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

With five singles matches in the books, I am going to look to add some variety going forward. I've always liked those four-way "showcase" type matches, so let's add one of them. And while I could also easily see Pepper Pelton being in that match, I think it might be nice to check if him and Bob Casey have any chemistry as a tag team. That leaves me with the second women's match of the night. While I know I'm already going to using Devil's Daughter in an angle, I don't see why she also can't be a part of a match. Since there is already another tag match on this night (and Double D is going to be in a tag match on night two), another tag team match seems a bit wrong here. Instead, her and Ellie May will take part in the GLW's first trios match along four new signees.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

You may note that my screenshot mentions the possibility of Lazy Joe not being booked. I've been thinking about it and it might be the best for me to leave Joe unsigned. The reason for this decision comes down to a feature in TEW that allows me to book unsigned locals on the night of the show. That means unless Joe gets signed by a different promotion, he'll always be there for me to use in case I make a mistake or an injury happens and I need to reshuffle the card. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

In any case, I once again have a shopping list: five women (one of which will tag with Brazzle) and five to six men (two of which need to be a heel tag team). Last time I looked at people between 20 and 40 popularity in the Great Lakes, lets see who's available between 0 and 19 popularity:</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

</span></div></div></div><div style="text-align:center;"><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><img src="</span></div></div></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png" rel="external nofollow"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png"</span></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png" rel="external nofollow"></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png" rel="external nofollow"></a></div><a href="https://i.imgur.com/Vqj6iy5.png" rel="external nofollow"></a><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> width="912px" /></span></div></div></div></div><p></p><p></p><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

After filtering by gender (because that's still a good amount of wrestlers), here's my selections:</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Black Diamond:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> She's looks like a pure project at this point, but one worth investing. Diamond has a lot of star quality and a number of personality attributes like People Person, Stud Athlete, Fitness Fanatic, and Easily Marketable. She also has Fame Hungry, Dynamo, and Heavy Social Media User, which might be something to watch out for.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Blue Dragon:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> I originally looked at him because of his cool mask, but the 20 year old looks like a really well rounded prospect. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Dreadnaught & Original Sinner:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> I'm grouping these two rookies together because I've picked them to be the potential foils of Bob Casey and Pepper Pelton on night one. The pair are both 2nd generation, menacing big men and potentially could be cornerstones for long term games.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Jana Marie Bowen:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> She's skilled in the ring, but I picked her for her backstory (a "good hand" that couldn't break out of the midcard).</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>James Diaz:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> Son of one of the best wrestlers in the history of the C-Verse, James already looks like a monster. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Joy Ryder:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> At the young age of 21, Joy is a promising all-a-rounder with extremely high fundamentals and performance skills</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Olivia Diamond:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> A solid grappler and high flyer, she's another person I picked mostly because of her bio. She tries really hard and has trained to be in the ring. Might as well give Olivia her first "big league" contract. </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Sabrina Wells:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> She might only be 23, but she has the possibility of being the best wrestler on the roster (but probably not - because scouting). Even if I assume that all of her ratings are the lowest they could be, she's be more than ready to hang with the rest of the roster. I think I've found my opening night opponent for Suzanne Brazzle.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>The Masked Mauler VII:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> I'm a big sucker for this gimmick, using a Masked Mauler in many a C-Verse. Kind of surprised he's not signed to NYCW (or even MAW) because he looks like a solid brawler at the age of 22. Fun fact: Mauler has been tagged with the Deathmatch Wrestler tag. Would not have guessed this.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

• </span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"><strong>Too Hot:</strong></span></div></div></div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> I knew a wanted a couple of high flyers as well as another older worker and Too Hot seems like a perfect fit on both accounts. He also has the attribute "Passes On Knowledge" which is great because he'll be mixing it up with a lot of rookies. Hope he gets a protégé.</span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Getting to the 1st Show

In yesterday's update I was able to fill out my roster. Time get them signed, so we can finally move past Monday, Week 1, January 2020.

<img src="
width="912px" />

The negotiation page is pretty similar to have it was before. You are able to change the pay, set the contract to have a limited number of appearance, make promises to the worker about their role, and add bonuses to try and get the wrestler to sign with you. Now in the past I've been able to use these setting to get a nice discount. One example was to promise the worker that they would only have to work events to get them to take less money per show. This has some risk and reward for a company with a TV need. For a promotion of our size? It's just cost savings.

For the purposes of speed, I'm just going to offer the default deal for most workers and see what happens. I'm sure that some of the older wrestlers might need me to promise them a limited schedule, but money really isn’t going to be an issue for us. I will however be offering some of the roster a deal that will last for 3 appearances. In TEW, when you release a worker from a deal or you let the contract expire, there would usually be a period of time when the worker will not talk to you. However, in TEW2016, that rule didn't apply for contracts that lasted for 1 to 3 appearances (I also believe the contract length had to be three months or less as well). These three appearance contracts were great because you could keep your roster fresh without it getting too big to manage.

<img src="
width="912px" />

Note: Art Reed, Bob Casey, Gareth Wayne, Nathan Coleman, and Suzanne Brazzle requested to only work events and A TV shows. Surprised Paul Steadyfast and Too Hot were cool with, in theory, with house shows.

After a few days wrestlers should be getting back to you to finalize their contracts. There is that much to do. You can set the alignment of the wrestler (which will also set the wrestler's default gimmick), request a medical exam (which costs money), and have one last chance to withdraw the offer. I personally like to make sure the alignments are the way that I want them, but if you are ok with changing them after the fact, then you can click on the button "Complete All Worker Signings" to well, complete all of the worker signings available at this time.

It took till Saturday, but all of the workers have finally signed. For some this would be the time to go change around wrestler gimmicks, but I'm going to skip that for our creation promotion (will look at that once we move on to the second part of this mini-diary). Each wrestler (should) have a default gimmick that should at least be fine (if not outright ideal) and it's one less thing to worry about when just starting out. Right now it's time to schedule the shows.

I feel like this pop-up looks a whole lot more complex that it really is. All of the stuff on the right can be ignored as the defaults are perfectly fine. Honestly the only option I've used in the past has been the "Season Finale" option for the last/biggest show of the year. The left side is pretty straight forward. You just need to have a name for the event and set the length and date. For this diary, I created New Beginnings Night 1 and Night 2 for Saturday and Sunday with Crowning a Champion being set for the Saturday after. I thought about running three straight nights, but was worried about wrestler fatigue.

<img src="
width="912px" />

The next step for me is creating a couple of storylines as my product demands them from me. It looks like I just need one active storyline running with at least 15 heat. Heat is a weighted average of the past ratings for angles and matches involving the workers in the storyline, so this shouldn't be a challenge. I ended up creating storylines for Suzanne Brazzle and Devil's Daughter as well as a storyline involving all eight competitors in the tournament. You can add four workers when creating a storyline, so I needed to add the rest manually via the "Add Worker" button.

Finally, I set Martin and Stuart as my announcers via the "Announcers" tab and set my night one tag teams via the "Teams" tab. The later isn't needed, but I do it for two reasons. First, in the past it was the only way to see chemistry notes (or at least it felt like it did). Second, it's a bit easier to book their match because I can switch to viewing tag teams.

And with that I'm now ready to move to booking and running the first show.

Exploring the Booking Screen

When it's time to book a show, you are taken to a completely new section of the game and are greeted with four tabs: Overview (the default), Office, Select Venue, and Book Show.

<img src="
width="912p" />

The Overview what it says on the tin. There is a quick summary of the event at the top, a spot for previous results for this event, and an area to remind a player if and what their pre-booked segments for this event were. There are also a couple of buttons at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to set locker room controls, see absent workers, give a motivational speech (which is currently greyed out), and see any backstage incidents, which apparently we have.

Thankfully, we got a good event. It looks put through wrestler's court had a small positive effect upon Too Hot. I'm not too surprised in seeing a positive incident considering all of the positive attribute tags our roster has. This information can be better seen in the "Backstage" section via the Office section (Note: There will be some areas of the Office that will be locked out while booking a show, but it really shouldn't matter too much. If you are worried about making a mistake, I'd recommend making a copy of your game before going forward). Let's take a look just how good it is:

<img src="
width="912p" />

Well this game is a bit more forgiving, isn't it? Maybe I'm underestimating things, but in TEW 2016, I feel like this locker room90;- would have been in the mid 80s. But, I'm not complaining. I very much do not want my locker room in turmoil, especially now that wrestlers can put in their notice. I don't know what causes a wrestler to leave, but I am going to guess that a toxic working situation might increase those odds.

<img src="
width="912p" />

Selecting a venue in TEW looks a bit more complicated in TEW 2020, but it's not as complex as it seems. In this version, you can pick a venue or a location. Venues has a predetermined max capacity as well as a set cost (like the 300 seat Ohio Jewish Center, which costs $300 to run), while the cost of a location will vary based on the size of the audience (the game is effectively making a generic venue that would be appropriate for your crowd). You also have the option of just selecting a generic venue (which is more or less the same thing as a location) or just letting the game pick what it thinks is the best option.

They aren't that much different from generic venues, but I really do like locations and the added bit of realism/lore it adds. I'll be booking tonight's show in Toledo, Ohio with us travelling to Detroit, Michigan for tomorrow's show (an hour drive for those not familiar with the area). Our final show, Crowning A Champion will be held in Chicago, Illinois. Is this going to give me some kind of bonus? Maybe (I don't know what location "Importance" does and both Detroit and Chicago have it set to 10% while Toledo has 0%). Does it make me happy? Yes.

We checked our backstage incidents and picked a venue, time to move on to what this post is suppose to be about, the Book Show screen.

<img src="
width="912p" />

This is another daunting screen, but we can make it easier on ourselves by writing out the card before hand. Whether you write it down on paper or type it up on the computer, I've found it's a lot easier (and quicker) to plan things outside TEW. I personally use OneNote for this because, but in the past I've used Word, Excel, Google Suite, and/or a physical notebook to various levels of success. There is also a really cool thread by piccamo that shows how he uses
. Definitely worth a read for even veterans of the game.

<img src="
width="912p" />

Another handy feature is the booking analysis screen. The page will give you a heads-up on any potential issues with the show. For example, the game is letting me know that I need to have at least one match with the aim "Story Telling" and that I haven't furthered any storylines. In addition, the game will show you wrestlers that aren't currently booked on tonight's card (as well total costs for what's booked). After I'm done booking, I always double check this screen just in case I missed something.

There is one more feature that I wanted to look into, Tournaments. This feature allows the game to track an elimination or round robin tournament and is new to TEW 2020.

After selecting with type of tournament you want, you will see a screen like the one above. For elimination tournaments, you are giving the option to set the number of people/teams (the dropdown gives you options for 4, 8, 16, or 32, but also looks like it supports "byes") and whether or not draws cause an elimination (or if they create a triple threat in the next round). In addition, the tournament can be set for singles, tag team, or trios action.

One thing I really liked was that as you set the wrestlers into the tournament, the game moved to the next open spot. So when I entered Acid into Position 1, Side A it moved to Position 1, Side B and made the process a whole lot quicker. It's also pretty easy to go back and change a mistake.

After you are finished setting up the tournament there are a couple of things you are able to do to make sure it goes the way you want. You can force a competitor to be removed from the tournament, causing the wrestler to forfeit the match. In addition, you are able to swap in one wrestler for another, which could be really handy in case of an injury.

Not sure if I would use this feature again since I've already wrote down the tournament in OneNote, but the fact the tournament will be saved in-game is really cool.

Looking good. :) I'm surprised it took the series so long to include a way to easily book tournaments, to be honest - since they're the most basic kind of angle available, and the one more old school and/or serious federations are going to use the most anyway - kind of like the new guys from Wigan, maybe.

I might use your thread as a walkthrough of sorts for my first foray into TEW 2020, I just wonder if there's enough unemployed people in southern Europe to make a federation viable. :p

Europe is a blind spot for me, but doing a quick check it looks like there are around unemployed 40 male wrestlers. Though the women's worker pool is a bit barren with only 3 unemployed women available at the start of the game.

That said, there are only three promotions in the area, so it's a lot easier to work around the schedules of wrestlers with other contractual obligations.

This is really great! Even though I’m a TEW “veteran” having played since TEW2010 and the early EWR games, it’s actually really interesting to me still to watch you step through the process and talk us through every screen. It’s also pretty cool to watch you build your roster and your promotion.

Looking forward to seeing how you book the first show!

Booking the 1st Show

Yesterday I mentioned that I write out most, if not all of my show before booking it in TEW. So for easy reference, here's what I have at the moment

<img src="
/>

Note: Usually when booking I would note the results of each match by underlining or highlighting the name of the winner (as well as noting any specific events I want to see, like a DQ or interference).

I have my matches set as well as two angles, the already mentioned confrontation between Devil's Daughter and an angle using our announce team of Martin Theocott and Stuart Ferdinand. I think I want to have about two more angles to help break up the show, but don't have any ideas at the moment. In these cases I tend to just book my main event in promos. But to do that I need to figure out what is my main event (as well as the order of the rest of the card).

<img src="
width="300p"/>

Alright, after looking through the matches, I think I've settled on Art Reed and Acid being our debut's show main event. The duo might be older, but they can still go in the ring as well as being two of the most over wrestlers on the roster. There are also some nice lore reasons for focusing on them during night one as Art's bio flat out states that these two got noticed from wrestling each other in DAVE (the C-Verse's version of ECW) before both left to wrestle in Japan (WLW for Acid and PGHW for Reed).

As for the rest of the card, I feel like Gareth Wayne vs. Rayne Man is our opener for similar reasons (combination of popularity and skill). I also like the contrast of the old deathmatch wrestler taking on the failed "SWF Superstar". As for the other tournament matches, I feel they should help prop up the middle of the card as the rest of the night will include matches with unknowns/rookies.

After some copying, pasting, and copying and pasting again, here is how the event is going to play out.

The next thing we have to worry about is how long each of these matches and angles are going to go. There are a couple of things in mind with deciding this:

• For most promotions (if not all promotions), matches under a certain time limit will have a cap on how high of a rating they can achieve. For Classic Balanced, that match time is 15 minutes. However, I don't believe that the cap is relative to your popularity, which means it probably doesn't matter much to our promotion. Even if it was the case, we shouldn't have a problem gaining popularity anyway, which at the end of the day is all that matters.

• It's not an issue on this card, but you might need to watch your match length for rookies. If a match doesn't contain at least one wrestler with high psychology, you will most likely see a road agent note that the wrestlers looked lost. Scripting a match helps a bit with this.

• As for angles, I just usually end up setting all of the angles to 6. I started doing this when this was the minimum length to promote skill growth. Not sure if that's still the case, but keeping them at 6 just keeps things easy for me.

• I also usually set general times for matches. For example, 20 to 30 minutes for a main event, 15 to 20 minutes for a major match, 10 to 15 for a middle of the road match, and less than ten for lower card matches and squashes. After the matches are booked, I will adjust them up or down a couple of minutes, both to keep the show to an appropriate length and to make it not look like I am booking like a robot.

Now that's starting booking some matches.

<img src="
width="912p"/>

I like the changes that Adam made this time around. Before you needed to select a match type before getting a pop-up allowing you to enter the detail that you see on the right side of the screen. This seems like it would save some time for last minute changes (like changing a normal singles match to a gimmick match). I also like how you can easily check important information via button on the bottom row (especially the roster, titles, and storylines).

<img src="
width="912p"/>

Clicking into the middle of the Competitor Details brings up the page to select the workers you want in the match. To select the workers you can either search through the dropdowns or drag and drop them from the list. Speaking of the list, you are able to filter it using the button on the top as well as the search button on the bottom left. The most useful filter I've found is the button that allows you to include/exclude wrestlers that are already booked (bottom left). It's a lot easier to book the last matches when there are like only six wrestlers left in the filter.

<img src="
width="912p"/>

To tell the game who is going to win you need to select on the Road Agent Notes. In addition to the picking the winner, this is were you choose the match aim (e.g. Story Telling, Comedy, Steal the Show, etc.) as well as the type of finish (e.g. DQ, Double Countout, Time Limit, etc.). There are a lot of options here and, as of Beta Patch #10, you aren't able to scroll through the list. However you can make it easier for yourself by using the arrows on the top left to filter through the different types of notes.

<img src="
width="912p"/>

Booking an angle is very similar to booking a match. There are a couple of items to note though:

• When starting a new game, I recommend going into the Default Angles, "clear" them, and set only the angles you plan to use during the show back to default (adding more as you book more shows). I've found that I really only use a couple of angles, so this makes finding the one I want a whole lot easier. There also is a word find search bar on the top and Search button on the bottom if you need help finding a certain kind of angle (or need to find an non-default angle).

• New to 2020 are road agent notes for angles. In this section you can do stuff like turn a worker, force a title change, and tell someone to take a big bump.

• There are also now Road Agents for angles. No clue if a road agents need any different skills to excel at being an angle for angles or if it's the same for matches.

• You can script angles to help get better performances from people who aren't great on the mic. However, some people like and/or work better without a script.

After booking, you will something like this (the match order may start or end with the main event based on your preferences).

<img src="
width="912p"/>

Wait, why is the game telling me that I have a potential issue? Let me go see what's going on in the booking analysis….

Oh. That's new. Nothing that I can do now though. Guess I might have to hire a second referee for Crowning A Champion. For now, I just have to work click and see how the show went.

Same :D

GLW Great Lakes Title Quarterfinals

Acid vs. Art Reed

This would be a hard pick for me but the fact that Reed is occasional wrestler these days guides me to pick Acid here.

GLW Great Lakes Title Quarterfinals

Gareth Wayne vs. Rayne Man

Rayne Man is much younger, has about the same popularity and looks better stat wise so I would assume he goes over here unless face/heel divide or something else demands otherwise.

GLW Great Lakes Title Quarterfinals

Conner Threepwood vs. Paul Steadyfast

I was ready to go with Threepwood here for same reasoning than with Rayne Man vs. Gareth Wayne but after looking their stats bit closer Steadyfast actually does seem to be at least equal to Conner on skills and has more popularity so I actually switch my pick to Paul here despite the age difference being on Conner´s favor. That said, I could see this one going either way depending on face/heel divide, if Paul is on time decline etc.

GLW Great Lakes Title Quarterfinals

Nathan Coleman vs. Raphael

Another one that was bit closer than I first expected but while I could see either one advancing stat wise, Raphael is simply younger and has equal popularity so in the vacuum, I would have to go with him so that´s my pick as I don´t have any knowledge on other booking plans that could potentially affect the situation here.

Singles Match

Sabrina Wells vs. Suzanne Brazzle

Brazzle vs. Devil's Daughter is what you said you are building towards so I doubt either one of them would drop matches elsewhere.

Tag Team Match

Casey & Pelton vs. Dreadnaught & Original Sinner

Two young, big, 2nd generation monster heels sounds like more upside to me than team involving Casey.

Trios Match

Black Diamond, Devil's Daughter, & Elle May Watson vs. Jana Marie Bowen, Olivia Diamond, & Joy Ryder

As said with Brazzle, I don´t see her or Daughter to drop matches elsewhere so Devil´s Daughter´s presence is enough for heels to win here in my eyes.

4-Way Showcase

Blue Dragon vs. James Diaz vs. The Masked Mauler VII vs. Too Hot

None of them don´t have much popularity so despite spending most of the tournament matches saying that younger guys should go over, I´m actually picking the veteran here. Doesn´t make sense? Do you really expect me to make sense? :p. On more serious note, the difference is that in the tournament the younger guys were bit over 30 years old and on their prime while these guys are just rookies and I do believe on rookies needing to "learning the ropes by jobbing" first before getting a push hence me picking veteran here. That said, I wouldn´t be to surprised if one of the younger guys would take the win as it would make sense here if you don´t have any plans for Too Hot.
