The Puppets Dance (CVerse '20 - 5SSW)

My name is Alexander Marcelin.

I am not a good person.

I work in an investment firm in Toronto. We're the most cutthroat group of stockbrokers on Bay Street, and that's not an easy reputation to get. I make more money than I know what to do with, and have screwed more people than I could possibly remember.

Sometimes I love myself for what I do, the money I make, and the throats I cut. Sometimes I hate myself for the lives I've ruined, the example I set, the price I pay emotionally to get my fortune.

People look at me in today's times and think I'm the reason they can't get out of the gutter, that I'm the reason they're in debt, the reason the government's in debt, and the reason why neither of them can get out from under it. They think I'm an asshole, and other terms in far less flattering language.

They may be right.

But even an asshole like me has one redeeming quality.

I have a daughter named Erin, and I love her.

nr0H7y3.jpg

I may not love the trophy wife that gave birth to her. I may not love the mistresses I've cheated on her mother with. I may not love my clients, my co-workers, my overpaid lawyers, my so-called drinking buddies...... I may not even love myself.

But I love my daughter, and I'll do everything for her sake.

I tried my best to be a good dad. I didn't let Erin be pampered by a simpering nanny, like most of my colleagues do with their trust fund brats. I didn't let Erin reap the rewards of the money I earned, without having done something to earn it first. I used the carrot and the stick. I was firm, but fair.

Erin's grown up to be a beautiful woman (haircut aside). She's grown up to be a strong woman. She's nothing like the stockbroking, cheating, screwing, greedy me.

She graduated from high school with flying colours. She could've been valedictorian if she wanted. She could go to any college in the country.

......But for some reason, Erin got sucked into a weird, weird world, and her career choice is to be a part of that world.

Professional wrestling.

Now obviously, I don't like wrestling because it's fake and scripted, unlike my favourite documentary, Mad Men (love that Don Draper guy). But like a lot of Canadians, I sometimes want to see what those wacky DeColts and serious Stones are up to, so I end up tuning in sometimes. I'll never truly understand what my daughter sees in this so-called sport, but Erin's got something. She's trained for three summer breaks now, she's proved her toughness, she has some natural ability for it, and now that she's turned 18, Erin's ready to take her first independent bookings.

I could buy her way to the top if I wanted. But that wouldn't be right. She shouldn't be handed opportunities until she's earned them.

........But it's ok to get at least a foot in the door somewhere, isn't it? If Erin becomes good enough, she can use that foot as leverage to break the door down.

No, I'll weave my threads into this weird world of wrestling like a marionette, slowly but surely building things up for my daughter to achieve her dreams. It might not happen right away, it might take many years, it might take many losses.......... But Erin Marcelin will make her mark in this sport.

Now it's time...... to start making these puppets dance.

Core Characters:

Erin Marcelin: A rookie Canadian wrestler trying to make it in the business, starting out as a young lion jobber for Japanese women's wrestling fed 5 Star Supreme Wrestling. Energetic go-getter who throws a hard punch but needs a lot more experience at her craft. Naive at times, but occasionally pretty perceptive. Finishing Move: Whirling Silver (Discus Right Hook)

Alexander Marcelin: Erin's father. A rich middle-aged stockbroker. Works at Strathcona-Fremont Investments in Toronto, a Bay Street (Canadian Wall Street) firm that leads Canada in assholes per square foot. Is secretly bankrolling Erin Marcelin's rise in the world of pro wrestling, via an investment in 5 Star Supreme Wrestling in exchange for Erin getting her foot in the door there.

Ted Lewis: A low-level flunky working for Strathcona-Fremont under Alexander Marcelin. Has a mastery of several langauges including Japanese. Is assigned to Japan to act primarily as Erin's interpreter and babysitter. A huge wrestling nerd who loves his new job and hates his old one.

Layla Fields: A miscellaneous secretary for Strathcona-Fremont Investments. Ted's girlfriend, she's seen by Ted as the "office goddess". Will probably be a bit more relevant to the plot later.

---

Gaijin Wrestlers:

Simony Sentinel: Erin's best friend. Flirty, energetic, fun to be around, life of the party kinda gal. Purple-haired former gymnast who entered the world of wrestling, and has been a bit of a journeywoman, working for AAA, ACPW, and now 5SSW. Finisher: Sentinel Strike (Twisting Top Rope Splash)

Talia Quinzel: Muscular powerhouse wrestler. A consummate professional who is straightforward and takes no **** from anyone. One half of a successful tag team with Selina Svelte called the Uprising, who are currently champions. Finisher: Spinal Trauma (Overhead Press Front Slam Backbreaker), Rising Tide (Modified Sky Lift Slam, with Svelte)

Selina Svelte: Low-key technical wrestler form Canada. Anti-social and keeps to herself outside the ring, cheats like an arrogant bugger inside the ring. Finishers: Blue Thunder Bomb, Prawn Armlock, Rising Tide (Modified Sky Lift Slam, with Quinzel)

Paige Croft: Very petite technical wrestler. Positive, gregarious person to be around, and is sorta like everyone's well-meaning protective mother backstage. In-ring, she portrays a slightly psychopathic technician, who brings a bloody chain with her to the ring for unknown reasons. Finishers: Running Ace Crusher, Memphis Deathlock (Kneeling Inverted Sharpshooter)

Alicia Strong: Iconic women's wrestling star in America, left after a vicious row with USPW leadership over the usage of their women's division. Obtained a bad reputation from online gossipers and rumour mongers, and is in Japan trying to rebuild it. Daughter of wrestling icon Sam Strong. Fundamentally sound and skillful. Finishers: Strong Arm Tactic (High-Impact Running Elbow to the Temple), Angel Driver (OwenDriver '97)

Pinky Perez: Lightning-fast Mexican luchadora with amazing technique and athleticism. Underrated. Frequently teams with Mystery Pink as the tag team Double Pink. Bit of a standoffish loner outside the ring. Finishers: Pink Butterfly Powerbomb (Spinning Double Underhook Powerbomb), Vertical Suplex / Twisting Crossbody combo (with Mystery Pink)

Mystery Pink: Technically sound Mexican luchadora who teams with Pinky Perez. Great people person and positive influence backstage. Made history in Mexico as the first woman to win a title from a man, and now seeks added fame and fortune in Japan. Finishers: Twisting Crossbody, Vertical Suplex / Twisting Crossbody combo (with Pinky Perez)

Thea Davis: Women's Wrestler from England, who is willing to travel the globe for work. Mediocre all-around talent, but likeable backstage and sound enough fundamentally. Finisher: Flying Elbow Drop

Zofia Jankovic: Vicious women's wrestler from Belarus. After leaving a trail of bodies in her wake in Europe, headed over to Japan to team with former rival Thea Davis as "Lethal Strike". Vicious kickboxer, with a tough reputation and moody demeanour that makes people take a safe distance. Finisher: Demon's Bane (Go 2 Sleep)

---

Japanese Wrestlers:

Yuma Maruya: 5SSW's ace wrestler. Seen as an idol due to her beautiful looks, and stands in defense of the companie from outside villainous invaders that want to take the World title. Relies in athleticism, courage, and surprising durability in-ring, and is a charismatic figure. Finishers: YUMA Special (Sky Twister Press), Skywing Lock (Double Leg Full Nelson)

Fuyuko Higa: A self-centered jerk of a human being who believes the world revolves around her, that shes perfect, and that she deserves every accolade 5SSW has to offer. Has more skill in-ring than anyone in 5SSW, but is constantly undone by her overconfidence against inferior opponents. Is recently gathering a faction to "burn 5SSW to cinders". Nothing about her persona is an act put up for the cameras, much to the company's displeasure, as she's a massive headache to do business with but is too talented to be fired. Finishers: Higa Green Driver (Emerald Flowsion Kai), Perfection Sweep (Skull-Crushing Finale), Anaconda Vice

Shiori Jippensha: A low-key but highly-skilled technician, nicknamed the "Excellence of Execution" by fans. Defends 5SSW alongside her friendly rival Yuma Maruya. Despite her flamboyant attire, she doesn't like talking much and lets her actions speak louder than any words. Is recently going through a bit of a rough patch, and is being bothered by increased recruiting attempts from Fuyuko Higa to get Jippensha to join Higa's side. Finishers: Execution Day (Scoop Brainbuster), Jippensha Leglock (Grapevine Ankle Lock)

Megumi Nakajima: A technical high-flyer with a great degree of skill. A former villain alongside the hated DEVIL Karube, but has since mellowed into a more respectable person, and seems to have some remorse for her prior actions. Finishers: Nakajima Straight Jacket (Straitjacket Suplex), Exploder Suplex, Exploder Superplex, Nakajima Crossface (Modified Arm Trap Crossface)

Gemmei Oonishi: An energetic, fun-loving gal. Formerly portrayed a sort of "Japanese Spice Girl", being a fashionista at one point, but has become a bit more fiery and serious since being abused and eventually betrayed by long-time tag team partner Fuyuko Higa. Now teams with HEART Saitoh instead, and is looking for revenge on her partner. Finisher: Flying Dagger Legdrop (Top Rope Front Flip Rough Ryder)

HEART Saitoh: A former world champion and class act, loved by some fans due to her never-say-die determination and unbelievable toughness. Does occasionally lack in other areas though, and can be beat by quick technical pins or submission moves that can choke her into unconsciousness. Finisher: Flying Tiger Knee (Top Rope Busaiku Knee)

Miwako Katsukawa: A purple-haired party animal who has toned down a little from her "wild child" days and is focusing on living up to her potential. Looks, talks, and carries herself like a star, and has been climbing up the ladder since losing her All-Asian championship belt at the start of 2020. Finisher: Katsukawa Bomb (Sunset Flip Powerbomb)

Maki Yoshifumi: A kickboxer turned pro MMA fighter with unbelievable toughness and completely legitimate credentials. Has been portrayed as an unstoppable bad ass recently with a streak of wins thanks to her deadly HEAD KICK, along with some burgeoning technical skills. Finishers: HEAD KICK, Brabo Choke

Yu Hashimoto: A tall, muscular fist fighter with some toughness and a little technical ability. Teams with Maki Yoshifumi as Torment And Sorrow, and acts as Maki's hype builder since Yu is more comfortable talking. Is always intense, all the time, and drives herself to succeed, although she can't quite climb that final part of the championship mountain. Finisher: The End Game (Spinning Backhand Blow to the Jaw)

More to come later.........

Erin Marcelin hung up her cell and did a little jig.

She couldn't believe it.

Finally, she was going to break into the wrestling business! The promoter she just got off the phone with confirmed it: Third match on the card, booked against a veteran named Eve Grunge who Erin had seen wrestle before. Eve was a pretty good technician, Erin was young and full of fire, and it was going to be an awesome debut. It might not be an important enough match to even get mentioned on the flyers, but with a good performance, she could get people talking. Some hard work on shows like these could get her in places like ACPW, QAW, maybe even 5-Star or the CWA.

Erin had wanted to wrestle on indy shows earlier, of course, but her father said he'd have none of it until she turned 18. She had trained hard over summer breaks with the House of Stone, the Dragon Academy, and the Canadian branch of the WWA facilities. Erin was ready for matches then, she thought, but she had to patiently wait to become an adult.

Erin floated through the massive Marcelin living room and into the kitchen, where her father was plating up Chinese takeout, much to his chagrin. Erin's mother was out running a charity ball, and Alexander was home, for a change, so delivery it was.

"Well you look awfully cheerful, whats up? It can't be the food, can it?"

Erin grinned from ear-to-ear.

"I got the call from the promoter, and I've got my first match! I'll be going over to Ottawa on Saturday night!"

Alexander smiled slightly.

"Congratulations sweetheart....... I'm very proud of you."

Erin sat and wolfed down on the Chinese takeout, while talking a mile a minute about all the big plans she had for the match, and how she was going to make the road trip to Ottawa with her friends and buy them tickets.</p><p> </p><p>

Eventually, Erin finished eating quickly and ran off, saying she had to study some videos to prepare for her match. Before she did though, she kissed her dad on the forehead.</p><p> </p><p>

"Thanks for sending me to those camps. I wouldn't be a wrestler without them. Love you!"</p><p> </p><p>

"Love you too sweetheart, give em' a good show on Saturday."</p><p> </p><p>

".........so I heard from my daughter about the booking, and I'm just calling to double check that everything's in order. She's facing a good veteran who will help her out, right?"</p><p> </p><p>

"Yeah, Eve's a solid hand and she'll carry her well. I still have to have Eve win though, you understand."</p><p> </p><p>

"Fine. Erin shouldn't be winning her first time out anyways. Gotta pay her dues in the business, right?"</p><p> </p><p>

"....Hmph."</p><p> </p><p>

Alexander was on the phone with the promoter of the Ottawa indy show on Saturday night. The promoter in question was known as Jon Jetson, a former wrestler who was a tough customer for CGC. He had won the tag titles with Ed Monton, but was released from CGC, and retired in 2015 to run small shows in the Montreal area. Recently, Jon had branched his shows out across the border in Ontario, and gotten on Alexander's radar for his plans due to two things: timing, and his professionalism.</p><p> </p><p>

Jon claimed that Jon Jetson was his real name. Alexander didn't believe him. Still, he had done business with people hiding worse things from him......</p><p> </p><p>

"......Alright, the two grand for sponsorship should be in your account on Friday. If we do good business here, maybe we do this again sometime. And remember, not a word of this to anyone, ESPECIALLY Erin."</p><p> </p><p>

"Of course, Mr. Marcelin."</p><p> </p><p>

"Alright, I'll call you on Sunday then. Oh, but before I go, theres a rumour I've been hearing about...... I've heard there's some reporters and cameramen from the Japanese magazines, coming to your show to look at your talent."</p><p> </p><p>

".........Where did you hear that?"</p><p> </p><p>

"Oh you know, around, I have some business contacts overseas. Anyways, I hear those magazines have pull in Japan to get people hired for tours, so it might give your boys a little extra motivation....... and maybe the girls too."</p><p> </p><p>

".......Maybe. I'll talk to you Sunday then, pleasure doing business with you."</p><p> </p><p>

"Of course Mr. Jetson. Talk to you soon."</p><p> </p><p>

Erin was as keyed up as you'd expect any rookie wrestler to be before their big debut. She had been going over ideas in her head non-stop for the match since Tuesday. Eve was backstage watching Erin pace back and forth, and was rather amused by her opponent's nervous enthusiasm.

Erin was re-taping her wrists for the third time, before she heard a piece of conversation from two low-level flunkies on the card that would change her career forever......

"So they've got photographers in for the Japanese magazines man, this is our big shot!"

"Ok, first of all, they aren't here for us, dumbass, they're probably here for the main event. Art Reed and Acid both worked Japan so they're probably just checking up on them. Second of all, its 2019, since when does a ****ing magazine matter?"

"They treat it like a real sport over there, duh. The magazines they have are more important than like Sports Illustrated, they're taken really seriously! Look, let's add in some good ****, like that ten move reversal sequence after I land on my feet from a reverse Frankensteiner. Or have me kick out of the Strong Arm Tactic. I don't care, but this is my shot man! I gotta impress!"

"The photographers will probably use our match as a piss break buddy, they've got bigger fish to fry. Let's just get this over with, get Jetson to pay us, and get the hell out of here, I need a drink........"

The conversation drifted down the hallway, but Erin heard all she needed to hear.

Japanese photographers!? HERE!?!?!?!?!?!

ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod

If Erin was on Cloud 9 before, this took her up to Cloud 11. Her big break in the business could come sooner than she thought! She could get a job from 5 Star Supreme out of this, instead of having to wait years to be noticed!

......But then reality set in. They probably WERE only there for Art Reed and Acid. That was going to be a good match, and both guys had lengthy careers in Japan. Acid was rumoured to be angling for one final run before retirement, and this was probably it.

Still, no harm in trying her best to make a good impression........ right?

nr0H7y3.jpglWRxFeH.jpg

"Oh my god Eve, I'm so sorry, I should've held it back a little more, are you alright?"

"I'm fine girl, don't worry about it......"

"Here, let me get some paper towel or something......"

Erin ran into the bathroom and got some paper towels. Her opponent Eve Grunge was bleeding from the nose, courtesy of an overly stiff left hook from Erin.

Erin was indeed keyed up for the match. The Japanese photographers seemed very alert and took a whole bunch of photos, so Erin gave them the best "genki girl" pose she could think of during her entrance. Erin's friends were at ringside besides the photographers cheering her on, and a couple drunk guys higher up in the makeshift stands were wolf-whistling the cute youngster making her debut. Not a bad reaction for a first-timer.

In addition to spending three summer breaks training at the House of Stone, Dragon Academy, and WWA-Canada, Erin took a lot of boxing and kickboxing classes that formed the basis of her in-ring style, that of a stiff Japanese-esque striker with some technique. Unfortunately, Erin was green and a little TOO stiff, so an early rising left hook landed harder than intended and blooded Eve up a bit. A jump spin kick to the face later in the match also didn't help matters.

Still, Eve was a solid pro and led the match well enough, slowing it down when Erin was trying too hard the push the pace. Eve eventually won with her finish in 8 minutes, but it was 8 pretty decent minutes by indy standards.

Erin came back with the paper towel. By this point the bleeding had mostly stopped, luckily nothing appeared to be broken.

"So sorry for this, it's my first ever match in front of paying fans, and I got a little too worked up."

Eve smiled.

"Don't worry about it girl, I've had worse. I had to work a six month series with Viv Jacobs and Corrine White once."

"That sounds.......... hard. And also awful."

Eve shrugged.

"It comes with being a veteran. For your first time out though that wasn't bad. Did you train with the Stones?"

"Yeah, for one summer break. I went to the Dragon Academy later for another summer and then WWA's Canada branch this summer."

"That explains it. You'll do just fine in a year or so rookie, I'll be getting you ready for the CWA soon enough."

"Won't you be there soon? Or maybe in Japan? They can't ignore you forever, you're really good. Those photographers seemed to be paying attention to our match as well........"

"Not a chance kid. I'm 40......... its too late for me. Japan's not a place I'm too hot about either, not that they would call. Those photographers probably were looking at you more."

Erin felt pained. Eve deserved so much better. She was successful as a musician at least, but......

"Well I better go check on my friends in the crowd, thank you very much for the opportunity."

Erin shook Eve's hand, put on a hoodie, and went to sit with her old high-school friends. They watched the show together, and while most of them were on their phones or checking out the rare good-looking shirtless guy on the card, Erin watched the matches closely.

The photographers were seated right beside them, and they appeared to be goofing off or texting for a lot of the matches. Yet they were so serious for Erin and Eve......... Could it be that they were.......... no, no way, Erin had to be too green to be scouted like this, right?

The main event of Art Reed and Acid came on, and Erin watched two old pros lay it on the line and fight their age to come up with a good match. The photographers were lighting up the ring with flashbulbs, the crowd was appreciative of the good action, and it was a solid main event to sign off a surprisingly okay indy show.

Erin told her friends she'd be with them in half an hour, and then hopped the barricade to help tear down the ring after the show. Before she did though, she noticed the photographers packing up a leaving, with a few talking to Jon Jetson, the show promoter.

"I HOPE YOU GOT MY GOOD SIDE, CAMERA-SAN!!!" Erin shouted over to them.

A Japanese woman with the cameramen looked over, saw Erin, and gave her a smile and a thumbs up.

As Erin helped the ring crew tear down, she felt up and down. On one hand, watching two old vets put on a good main event made her realize she had a long way to go as a wrestler. She didn't have the experience to do the transitions right, to remember a good story and tell it in the ring, to cover up for mistakes, to really work the crowd, stuff like that.....

......But on the other hand, the photographers had interest. Maybe she was in line for a tour or two in Japan. If so, then that could be her first step to stardom. Or her first step to whatever the Japanese version of Botch Mayhem was.

Overall, it was an interesting night.........

Strathcona-Fremont Investments

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

rBQxkob.jpg

Right from the start of the morning, when he tripped on a bottle getting out of bed, Ted Lewis had a feeling this day was going to suck. Now, as he awaited his fate outside the office door of one Alexander Marcelin, he was becoming pretty sure it would suck.

One of the secretaries had let Ted know right at the start of a 12 hour shift that the boss needed to see him, it was urgent, and please bring your keycard and cellphone. The tone was neutral, but Ted had heard enough stories to know that bringing office equipment with you to see the boss...... meant you were probably getting fired.

Ted was a low-end coffee-fetcher and office intern flunkie du-jour for Alexander Marcelin in the beloved investment firm Strathcona-Fremont. Truth be told, he hated his job, and hated the insufferable douchebags that worked this boiler room sweatshop. The only reasons he hadn't quit yet were twofold: a six figure salary, and a cute secretary at the firm named Layla who he REALLY wanted to ask out on a date.

Ted had thought he was leaving a better impression at work when it was discovered he knew 5 different languages from his undergrad studies in college. Alexander decided to give him a break from the coffee fetching for a bit to have Ted translate important phonecalls from Spanish or Japanese or German over to English, but it looked like he was getting the axe nonetheless.

Why though?

Alexander opened the office door and greeted Ted heartily, inviting him in.

Oh great, hes enjoying this.......

---

ARaIJZt.jpgrBQxkob.jpg

"......Alright Ted I'll get to the point, we're expanding our reach here at Strathcona-Fremont, and we need a man of your talents to help make things happen."

Wait, what!?

"We've got several investments in Japan as you know, and us higher-ups have decided we need a man on the ground checking in on things occasionally. So your responsibilities at the office will be shifted around a bit, you'll only show up here to report occasionally, and we need you to travel to Japan on a regular basis."

"Uh, wow, geez..... I wasn't expecting this....."

"It's you or no one Ted. I know it'll be a bit of a life shift for you, but no one else in this office knows a Japanese word besides sushi. It'll be something like, lets see here....... maybe 3 weeks on 1 week off? You will also have your travel expenses covered, but don't go overboard. We'll keep you on the same wages, but with the expense coverage its practically a raise. Plus it would be a very important personal favour to me Ted......."

Ted exhaled in relief. Free from this hellhole boiler room and away from these blueblood bastards, without being fired to do it? **** yes! Plus he'd get to go to Japan too on someone else's dime! This was too good to be true.

"Absolutely, Mr. Marcelin. When do I start?"

"Please, call me Alexander. You'll start on New Year's."

"No problem, Mr. Mar-I mean, Alexander."

"Good. Now, I had said this is a personal favour to me, and I mean it. You're familiar with our investments over in Japan, and we'll need you to check on them on occasion, but if I'm being honest, the real purpose is with a new company I'm investing in."

Alexander flipped over a file and slid it over to Ted. Ted recognized a logo in it....... and was instantly confused. The hell?

"Now I've heard from around the office that you're a wrestling fan, so you might be familiar with a company there called 5 Star Supreme Wrestling. I'm making a VERY personal financial investment in this company. You see, my daughter is a young professional wrestler, just starting out, and she's going to wrestle there for a little while to...... I believe the term is pay her dues. She'll learn there, get better at wrestling, and get the chance to see the world in the process. I need you to be her guide on occasion, help her out at the shows, translate for her. You don't have to be on-call 24/7, but it would mean a lot to me if you helped her out when she got the chance, and it wold mean a lot to me to check up on the company, and making sure they're using my daughter right, and also our money right."

......So in actuality, Ted was to be the babysitter of the boss's daughter, because he was the only goober in the office qualified for the job. Great.

Everyone in the office knew of Alexander's daughter Erin, although they had never seen her, didn't know what she was like (other than Alexander's highly biased opinion of her), and didn't know what she was planning on doing with her life. Besides money, Erin was probably the only thing Alexander truly loved. So she was actually aspiring to be a wrestler? Interesting......

Ted was indeed a wrestling fan, ever since grade school. Due to the endless run of 12 hour shifts he worked though, he generally only watched CWA these days, mostly on DVR late at night. On rare occasions, Ted might've found himself watching some puroresu on YouTube, but he knew the Japanese scene had taken a major hit due to the tsunami a while back. The economy was showing signs of a possible bounceback, but the wrestling world was still under pressure. 5-Star itself had even almost gone bankrupt.

But, hell, it was Alexander's money to invest, not his. And honestly, there were worse things to do than babysit some spoiled trust fund brat on trips to Japan, like hanging around this goddamn office for another day.

"You can count on me, Alexander, I'll keep an eye out."

"Good. Now, I'll need that work phone of yours and some other stuff, you'll be getting an upgrade-......"

---

Ted strolled out of the office with a little bit of swagger and a fist pump. This did not amuse any of the workplace rabble, who looked up from sucking up to investors via phone to glare jealous daggers at Ted for having any sort of success. But hey, screw them, he was out of here for a while and not looking back.

The only person who seemed even mildly happy for Ted was the cute secretary Layla, who gave Ted a sunny congrats on the promotion and told him to travel safe.

Ted was chuckling lightly to himself with a blush on his cheeks, as he packed up some stuff on his desk to take with him to Japan.

Monday/Week 1/January/2020

Flight 505 - Westjet Airlines

nr0H7y3.jpg

If Erin was keyed up for her first ever match, she was coked up for her first overseas tour, without actually doing the coke.

She still couldn't believe it. She was just phoning around one day, looking to get independent bookings in January, and trying to advance her career after her debut. All of the sudden, Erin got a call from Kinuye Mushashibo, a midcard wrestler and official liasion to the gaijin for 5SSW, who conveyed a contract offer to her.

At first, Erin thought it was a prank. 5-Star calling for her this early? No way. Eventually though, she came around to it, faxed back a contract with her signature, and got e-mailed plane tickets to Osaka. That started to make it seem real, but what made it even more real was Erin going on TEW.com later, and seeing her name as a rumoured potential signing for 5-Star in the Japanese news and notes section. Hot damn!

If this was a prank, someone had to be pulling a LOT of strings. Then the nail in the coffin for the prank theory came when Erin saw the Japanese magazine article online. Said article was a page-long job that seemed to be devoted to the indy show she was just on. There was a big picture of Acid leaping off the top rope towards Art Reed, and then a smaller picture of Erin delivering a jump kick to Eve Grunge's jaw. Erin looked full of fire and confidence in that pic, and she promptly had it enlarged, framed, and put on her wall.

The letters BHOTWG kept cropping up in the article, and while Erin couldn't read the text, she had a feeling Acid was being looked at as a signing for Burning Hammer based on some other stuff she was reading on TEW.com. So she wouldn't be the only person getting a job out of that indy show.

No, this was real. What a lucky break!

Eventually, Erin managed to calm herself down and relax a little as the flight reached Western Canada. With that, she got to know her seatmate better.

Of course, when Erin had finally convinced her father that this offer was on the up-and-up, he had to be a stick in the mud and insist Erin couldn't go without a tour guide that knew the language. Which wouldn't be so bad, except the only guide Dad wanted was one of his lackeys from work, and Erin REALLY didn't want any part of that world. Dad's co-workers were some awful, AWFUL people, and Erin had learned to dread any holiday parties that came up when she was a kid.

But this guy...... didn't seem so bad actually. His name was Ted Lewis, and he explained he was getting assigned to Japan for other business anyways and had no issue helping Erin out. Unlike a lot of the jealous back-stabbing starched shirts Dad had working for him, Ted was relaxed and carried himself like a guy with the weight of the world taken off his shoulders.

Ted was also a wrestling fan, and had Erin in stitches with stories of shows he'd watched. The best one was the infamous North of the Border house show in Kingston a decade back, where Ted had seen Steve DeColt use a low blow followed by a Big Smack Shuffle on Dan Stone for a 3 count, which almost started a riot in the arena.

Ted seemed kinda cool for a geeky-looking dude, and he said he would try not to get in Erin's way too much, and was just there for help with the language barrier. Maybe this wasn't so bad after all......

Ted had long since made his peace with how stupid this trip was going to be. The airport was predictably tough and stressful to get through in the holidays, the security staff searched the same pants pockets three times, and the promise of a last minute upgrade to first class from Alexander did not materialize. And yet this was STILL better than being in the office.

But it actually got good shortly, as it turned out that Erin was not the spoiled brat Ted was expecting. In fact Erin was actually pretty interesting.

Ted was expecting a trust fund brat with entitlement, who got into the world of wrestling on her daddy's dime for one of: a back door to fame, some cheap laughs, or to make a misguided attempt at emulating Alicia Strong. Not so with Erin. She was a cool chick with passion for the business and a haircut Ted knew Alexander DEFINITELY did not approve of. Ted also found out Erin was one of the few women in history who could claim to have survived two months in the House of Stone. Erin had also hit up the Dragon Academy, WWA's Canada branch, and practised some bumps and strikes in her garage regularly. This wasn't some diva model with delusions here, Erin was the real deal.

The two swapped stories about their shared interest in wrestling. Ted told the Steve DeColt riot story, which was always a guaranteed crowd pleaser. Erin talked about her first match. Ted pulled out his laptop, which had a USB drive with some 5-Star on it so Ted could catch up on the product. The two watched some of the more recent matches, as well as older ones involving the ANTI taking on 5 Star Defense, and of course some Magic Three too.

The trip to Japan created a bond, even if it was one out of necessity. The two continued to talk wrestling until they fell asleep a few hours before touchdown in Osaka........

Reign Supreme Tour Semi-Final

Tuesday/Week 1/January/2020

5 Star Supreme Wrestling kicks off the new year with a bang, debuting on Shogun TV with the semi-final show of the Reign Supreme Tour!

The opening match will feature two young lions fighting for a 5SSW contract, as Canadian rookie sensation Erin Marcelin takes on the skillful young technician Hoshiko Tagawa.

Thanks to the recent poor conduct of The TermiNation, a tag team title shot is open for the taking. Veterans will form new alliances to grasp this chance, as Ochiyo Iijima and Hana Ajibana take on Otsune Tsumura and Yukiko Matsumara.

Monster Ishimura has been unstoppable since joining 5SSW, and will display her brutality again in action against a local competitor.

Running 4th is a high-profile tag match. MAYA and Machiko Matsuda have been friendly rivals since their rookie days, and will now team up together to face the strongest test of their careers, the multi-time tag champion Birds of Prey (Fuyuko Higa and Gemmei Oonishi). Can the Kanto Express ride onwards to glory?

A title eliminator for the All-Asian title will take place next. It'll be the deadly high-flier Lady Lotus against the MMA battler Maki Yoshifumi, with the winner facing Miwako Katsukawa for the 5SSW All-Asian title at Reign Supreme.

A six woman tag with explosive tension is set to go as our co-main event. It will see Shiori Jippensha teaming with Triangle title contenders Eri Sato and Yu Hashimoto against Romi Yamato, Sae Akutagawa, and Paige Croft. Akutagawa and Yamato have slowly forged a reluctant friendship despite past rivalries, and Sato and Hashimoto are competing for a title at Reign Supreme. Who will set aside their differences and come out on top?

The main event is the title eliminator for the main event at Reign Supreme. Megumi Nakajima and HEART Saitoh are former World champions, and want nothing more than another shot to wear the prestigious 5SSW World title yet again. Who will prevail?

Ted had been to a fair few wrestling shows before, but had never been backstage for one.</p><p> </p><p>

Under normal circumstances Ted would feel completely out of place in a wrestling locker room, but adding to the mix the locker room being in a foreign country and the promotion being 90% female personnel........</p><p> </p><p>

Still, Ted was accepted readily enough backstage when he showed up with Erin. Kinuye Mushashibo greeted them and they had a brief meeting with Sensational Ogiwara and Umeko Karube, the brains of the 5-Star outfit. Ted introduced himself as Erin's interpreter, thanked them for the contract on Erin's behalf, and said he would be available to help translate for anyone if necessary.</p><p> </p><p>

Outsiders were not banned from the 5SSW locker room, but they were frowned upon. This was still the wrestling business, and there were still secrets to protect, especially in Japan. However, Ted had ties to the sponsor's daughter, and so the wheels were greased.</p><p> </p><p>

Ted spent his time backstage keeping out of the way and answering random questions for Erin (when Kinuye wasn't around to translate). Ted was smart enough to avoid a situation where he carelessly walked in on a beautiful joshi girl changing into her wrestling attire, who would proceed to scream "KYAAAAAAAA!" and slap him into unconsciousness, so he hung around with the announcers and referee and bantered with them in Kansai-ben. The trio eventually decided to invite Ted to the traditional pre-show poker game that cost 50 to enter.</p><p> </p><p>

Ted certainly paid his initiation fee.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>---</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="nr0H7y3.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/nr0H7y3.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Erin was in unfamiliar territory for sure. A few people were eyeing her warily, but most seemed completely unperturbed by her presence. Erin got goosebumps when she got a glimpse of Yuma Maruya, who randomly decided to wink back at her, flash a peace sign, and say something in Japanese that Erin could not understand.</p><p> </p><p>

Erin changed with the gaijin, and was warmly greeted by Paige Croft, who talked a mile a minute asking Erin all sorts of questions about her background and what she'd done in the business. Eventually, it came out that Erin only had one match in her career, and the gaijin looked at her really weirdly.</p><p> </p><p>

Erin sighed. She did have a feeling her right to even be on this locker room would be questioned, but she really didn't want it to happen. She tried to assure everyone that she was just here to learn from all of them and improve, acted as humble as possible (which was easy for her because she WAS humble), and that sort of diffused things.</p><p> </p><p>

At least, she hoped it did.......</p><p> </p><p>

Still, Erin had a match to concentrate on. It was a tryout against Hoshiko Tagawa, she would be going over in a balanced 8 minute match and getting a contract in storyline. Hoshiko was slightly less green than her, but Erin had seen her work on a Wrestle Peace Festival show that was uploaded to YouTube and thought she'd be okay. She had to make a strong impression, and prove she belonged.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>---</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="Ut6aCND.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Ut6aCND.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UqJvBag.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UqJvBag.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="NrU6NiP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/NrU6NiP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="xI8mrAU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/xI8mrAU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The gaijin 5SSW currently had under employ were curious about who this rookie signing that no one had ever heard of before was. She looked very pretty with the short punk rock haircut and the well-toned body, but they found out she was a little greener than they even anticipated.</p><p> </p><p>

How on EARTH did she get a contract with one match?</p><p> </p><p>

Paige had wrestled Eve Grunge before and knew she was good, but to carry a green rookie to a touring gig should've been beyond her capabilities.</p><p> </p><p>

Still though, Erin seemed nice enough, seemed passionate about the business, and hell, anyone who survived two months in the House of Stone deserved respect.</p><p> </p><p>

Things might've been different if there was a Higa or Tai-sized cancer in the gaijin section, but Paige was nice to everyone, Talia and Thea were consummate professionals, and Selina........ lived in her own little world with her iPhone and earbuds. At least there was no way with six months of training and a martial arts background that she could suck worse than Monster Ishimura.</p><p> </p><p>

Besides, there was an unspoken agreement amongst three of them (Selina notwithstanding because she really didn't care). We take care of one another unless they're a bitch.</p><p> </p><p>

Japan was a strange place, and had its own way of doing things. Without Kinuye there would be no way they'd understand a single conversation around them (although they tried to learn Japanese with varying degrees of success so far.). If Kinuye wasn't around, you stuck together with the people you knew that spoke your language. It was the same thing with Japanese and Mexican wrestlers in America. You reach out to the nicer ones once you break the language barrier, but you stick with your team until you get used to the experience of being in a strange new place.</p><p> </p><p>

Erin was Team Gaijin until she did something stupid enough to leave the team. Her being green was frustrating, because she didn't have to sacrifice to make it here like they did, but ultimately, it wasn't a crime. They'd help her out if she stayed humble, knew her place, and didn't develop an ego or **** in someone's bag. </p><p> </p><p>

Until then, they'd take care of her.</p>

<strong>Tryout Match: Erin Marcelin vs Hoshiko Tagawa</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The announcers remind us of the stakes: winner gets a contract. The two get nearly eight minutes to show their stuff. Some of it is good and shows potential, some of it gets messy, with Erin and Hoshiko both getting lost on some Irish whip sequences. Hoshiko tries to control with technique, and mostly succeeds when Erin fights fire with fire. The change comes late in the match though when Erin stops bumping all over the place, turns to strikes instead of mat wrestling, and pummels Hoshiko around the ring. Punching combination finished with an uppercut, rising right hook, running clothesline. Surprisingly a teen girl element in the crowd gets behind the unknown punkish gaijin, and Erin revs herself up as Hoshiko staggers to her feet....... Whirling Silver (Discus Left Hook) to the jaw! The 3 count is academic, and Erin Marcelin has herself a contract!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Ochiyo Iijima and Hana Ajibana vs. Otsune Tsumura and Yukiko Matsumara</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Four veterans at a career crossroads do battle in this one, and the match is fairly decent. Both teams are inexperienced as duos, but make up for it with some athletic individual efforts. Matsumara seems to get the crowd more on her side as the highlights join in progress, and it makes the difference. Matusmara counters an Iijima corner whip with a kangaroo dropkick, and heads up top, connecting with a graceful Matsumara Press (Twisting Moonsault Press) out of nowhere for the 3 count.</p><p> </p><p>

Backstage we go to a promo taped not long after the victory, where Matsumara talks about how shes excited to get a Tag Team title shot, but shes interrupted by a brawl behind her, with a pissed off TermiNation fighting through the camera shot with The Uprising. Raw feelings clearly exist from the TermiNation's end after losing out on a tag title shot due to recent events like this. Selina Svelte in particular is getting throttled by Tai, and referees, young lions, and backstage staff flood in to break it up.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Monster Ishimura vs Sakura Sada</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Oooooof. This match gets sloppy, as Ishimura draws it out to inflict as much pain as possible and nearly runs out of gas in the process. Sada spends her brief 5SSW return bumping like a pinball to save it, but both girls are limited for different reasons and the match does not work out well. Eventually Ishimura swats down a desperation jumping forearm from Sada, and locks her in a bearhug, shaking her like a rag doll until the ref waves off the match to try and save Sada's hide.</p><p> </p><p>

Post-match Ishimura continues a beatdown on Sada unabated by the bell, but is interrupted by Shiori Jippensha. Jippensha taunts Ishimura, saying she looks tough when beating down second rates, but can she stand up to first rates like her? Jippensha reminds everyone that shes the Excellence of Execution and a former World champion, and at Reign Supreme, since she has nothing better to do with her partner Yuma Maruya busy, she'll slay the monster. Ishimura's response is a lot of yelling and throat-cutting, which I guess means challenge accepted. Crowd didn't mind the angle as much as the match, but overall they did not care about a lot of this.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>The Kanto Express (MAYA/Machiko Matsuda) vs The Birds of Prey (Fuyuko Higa/Gemmei Oonishi)</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Fuyuko Higa's behaviour is getting increasingly erratic lately, which is of great concern to her bubbly long-time partner Gemmei Oonishi. Higa's wearing some bizarre leather gear, has dyed her hair recently, and seems to be more concerned with showing off and jawjacking both her opponents and the crowd. MAYA and Matsuda press early and gain the upper hand, until a fed up Higa finally tags in Oonishi. The momentum is on the Express's side though, and they use graceful agility and good teamwork to keep Oonishi on the back foot too.</p><p> </p><p>

The fans wake up to this match in a hurry when it rejoins with Higa tagging back in, getting fired up, and making even less headway than normal, with a beautifully executed Power-Plex from the Kanto Express getting a close two count.</p><p> </p><p>

The upset is within reach. MAYA gets several close near-falls with rollups, but a double team assisted Irish whip to the corner goes awry, and the Birds finally isolate Matsuda. Matsuda does almost steal it with a small package, but Higa reverses to her own small package at 2 and cinches it tightly for a 3 count.</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>All-Asian Title Eliminator: </strong></p><p><strong>

Lady Lotus vs Maki Yoshifumi</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Lady Lotus wants this win badly, as she wants to one-up her rival, the champion Miwako Katsukawa, who beat her to claim the belt twice in the last 18 months. Maki however steps up her game, and showcases why she's considered a deadly up and coming mixed martial artist.</p><p> </p><p>

The highlights of this match don't show any special chemistry, big moves, or bells and whistles, just a modern take on an old story of speed and precision vs power and bad intentions. Lotus does her best to try and keep Yoshifumi off balance, but can't seem to keep her down for long. Yoshifumi tries to wade through a barrage of modern lucha-esque offense, but can't land the decisive shot.</p><p> </p><p>

Finally towards the end of the match, Lotus staggers Yoshifumi with a series of Enziguiris and running kicks, and goes for a big twisting crossbody off the top rop-<strong>HEAD KICK</strong> nearly destroys her! Lotus goes down with her neck at an angle and looks like a car crash victim. Yoshifumi gets the guaranteed 3 count off that, and has earned herself a shot at the All-Asian title!</p><p> </p><p>

<strong>Shiori Jippensha/Eri Sato/Yu Hashimoto vs Paige Croft/Romi Yamato/Sae Akutagawa</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

The match has a lot of tension in it, as Sato and Hashimoto are involved in a match for the Triangle title at Reign Supreme, while Sae Akutagawa and Romi Yamato (who have fought for that title at various points) are trying to mend their distrust of one another and form a tag team. Jippensha does her best to back up her stardom, and controls the match early with a good sequence on Croft. Yamato and Akutagawa get their chance to make headway when they tag in, and show some surprisingly okay teamwork.</p><p> </p><p>

Sato and Hashimoto blind tag a couple times and try to show off to each other with some hard-hitting strikes. The 20 minute match gets clipped around, but it becomes clear that neither team can work together properly. Paige Croft is frustrated at getting hung out to dry by her partners, and Sato and Hashimoto can't stop one-upping each other.</p><p> </p><p>

Eventually the match breaks down to the point where the teams start just fighting themselves and each other, and referee Odaka loses complete control of the match.</p><p> </p><p>

Croft clears the ring, but Jippensha, the world title veteran (and the legal woman in the ring unbeknownst to pretty much everyone at this point), kept her head, slipped in through the back, hit Croft with a picture perfect dropkick, and then hit the Execution Day (Scoop Brainbuster) for 3 before anyone could make the save.</p><p> </p><p>

There was a lot of solid action and potential in this match, but it's yet to be fully realized.</p><p> </p><p>

Before the main event we get a brief video package. Nakajima talks about the changes she's made since her partner, Umeko Karube, dropped the DEVIL persona and tearfully asked Maruya for forgiveness after their final match at JoshiMania. Maruya accepted it, and we get shots of the emotional hug between the two former friends and bitter rivals. Nakajima is no longer the villainous ANTI member at heart, but she still sees Maruya as her rival though, and pledges to get the World championship back around her waist "where it belongs"</p><p> </p><p>

Saitoh wants to win to add a second world title to her legacy, and to show the fans the true value of what her mentor taught her, to never, EVER give up. Saitoh's lost to Nakajima before, but THIS TIME it'll be different. Saitoh respects the current champ Maruya tremendously, but no one will make her give up on a World title dream.</p><p> </p><p>

WORLD TITLE ELIMINATOR:</strong></p><p><strong>

Megumi Nakajima vs HEART Saitoh</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

This match isn't as technically proficient as the co-main, but makes up for it with crowd heat and a classic story that the 5-Star fans know well. Saitoh and Nakajima both show some sloppiness at the start thats cut around with camera angles, but the match picks up in earnest after a few minutes. Nakajima controls in the middle portion, but can't hit any of her big moves. Finally she gets a bottom rope Exploder Suplex, but Saitoh kicks out at 2. Nakajima keeps trying to put a lid on the never-say-die babyface, but eventually tires......</p><p> </p><p>

Saitoh jumps on the chance and revs up the crowd as usual with her big comebacks. Jumping clotheslines! Rube Goldberg neckbreaker! Running back brain kick! Running single-foot dropkick! Saitoh is fired up and goes up top for the Flying Tiger Knee (Top-rope Busaiku Knee), but Nakajima dodges at the last possible second. The camera gets a great facial shot of Nakajima looking like she dodged a literal and metaphorical bullet there.</p><p> </p><p>

Nakajima goes in for the kill with the Nakajima Straight Jacket (Straightjacket Suplex). Saitoh has the werewithal to try and counter with mule kicks to Nakajima's knees, so Nakajima takes a different tack and trips Saitoh to the mat, applying the Nakajima Crossface (Modified Arm Trap Crossface). Saitoh refuses to give up and fights hard to escape, but her own left arm trapped across her throat chokes her into unconsciousness, and referee Odaka calls for the bell.</p><p> </p><p>

Nakajima does do the classy thing after getting her hand raised, and bows to her defeated opponent before leaving the ring.</p><p> </p><p>

OOC SHOW NOTES:

-I was absolutely GOBSMACKED by the fact people predicted Erin to lose the tryout match. But then I rationalized it as: "Ok, people think I'll do the deal where they have an ok match and Ogiwara comes out and says hey good effort from both of you so you both get a contract. Now heres the mandatory rookie hazing ritual of having Unstoppable Tai taking a dump in your gym bags."

Then I realized another factor might've been people not seeing Erin's pre-save ratings, because I forgot to post a screenshot like a dumdum.

https://i.imgur.com/K49LLUL.png

That's generally the buffed version of my RtG builds (I think I used 1200 points?) For loose comparison to refine it though, I used Alfonso D'Angelo, who is a prospect from the 21CW school thats probably the third best worker in the Yet to Debut pile (a step below the natural prodigies Tommy Boy Junior and Lucy Stone-McFly)

https://i.imgur.com/usi7eoI.png

Setting aside intangibles, D'Angelos got better fundamentals and more physical attributes, while Erin is a better bumper and might be a shade better on the offense. I debated making Erin weaker, but I feel she's a clear step below the aforementioned prodigies in yet to debut. And she has clearly defined weaknesses by being stiff and inexperienced. She knows what to do after training for three summer breaks and minor practise in her garage, she just needs to practise doing it live where it counts.

-Yoshifumi/Lotus was also a bit of a trap matchup, but then I expected that a bit. Really surprised by the rating it got, it was mid-50s in test sims, and there wasn't any chemistry going on either. More on Yoshifumi later.

-I'm going to give it a brief college try with Ishimura and Tai, but as I've said many times on Discord while doing test sims: holy moly did they screw over Menace workers. I'm not going to be able to duplicate my CV97 RtG bit where I push Mick Muscles to the moon I'm guessing.

-All that aside, I'm not sure this card came off well, but then I think everyone knows that with CVerse diaries theres a long lead-in period until you get to the fruits of the signing spree and the big company-changing angle.

-ANY FEEDBACK AND/OR CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM IS APPRECIATED. I intend to give this diary a good go, but I get the feeling the dialogue and writing is a bit weird and off-kilter, especially that six-woman tag idk. I'll have a couple story and news posts to do before the next card.

Ted, along with several of the gaijin wrestlers, nodded their heads ever so slightly in approval of what they were seeing.</p><p> </p><p>

They were watching the monitor for Erin's tryout match against Hoshiko Tagawa. None of them, Ted included, had actually seen Erin work a match. There was some sloppiness, like the two getting lost on an irish whip sequence and some clunky transitions, but Erin going directly on the offense or bumping around for Tagawa was pretty decent stuff, and the match was certainly not the unmitigated disaster they were sort of expecting. With more experience and less stiffing people on her punches, everyone seemed to sense that there was some serious money in pushing her down the line. Setting looks aside, she was already better than Monster Ishimura, and maybe one or two others, and probably a lot of the enhancement girls 5-Star could bring in for a night.</p><p> </p><p>

Erin could've very easily chosen to eat up Tagawa in the ring and give her nothing, but Erin decided the best way to go about it was giving Tagawa shine too. It might've gotten her less over, but she understood the way the Canadians and Japanese favoured of trying to give the fans their money's worth, even in an opening match.</p><p> </p><p>

Ted kept finding Erin to be full of surprises. An entitled rich girl like her could've gone the selfish USPW route of working, but didn't. The fact she was more of a striker surprised Ted too, even though he knew her background.</p><p> </p><p>

Of course, Erin had to do a lot more than win one 8-minute match to get the Japanese crowd's respect. She was a young lion and way down on the totem pole, and would probably be used to put people over. But there was something there for sure, and everyone knew it......</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><p>---</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="60wMUdz.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/60wMUdz.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Sensational Ogiwara knew it too. The owner of 5-Star was in the makeshift production center that was curtained off in the Nekketsu school hallways, and was watching the monitors with interest.</p><p> </p><p>

Ogiwara was extremely reluctant to deal with a sponsor that dripped fake sincerity like Alexander Marcelin, especially when the problem of a sponsor's daughter was thrown in. Many "sponsors" hung around star Japanese wrestlers, taking them out to meals, giving them gifts, and basically considered having contact with them to be a status symbol. Occasionally they tried to get their offspring into the wrestling business. A few were good, but a lot were disasters that were lucky to even make it out of a dojo alive.</p><p> </p><p>

But Erin had the potential to be one of the good ones........ and even if she wasn't, Ogiwara needed that half million badly. With that money, 5-Star increased their production values to get a contract with Shogun TV, returning 5-star to the airwaves, and enabling the company to take a step back up to the days of selling out actual arenas, instead of high school gyms and small sports centres.</p><p> </p><p>

In the end, it was either the arrogant gaijin sponsor and his daughter, or it was the Yakuza, and everyone knew how the Yakuza turned out for WLW. Ogiwara's former boss Sakurako Kagawa was rumorued to have had dealings with them in the past, although she had strongly denied this. It simply wasn't worth the risk.</p><p> </p><p>

Erin was competent and could be elevated in a few years. Luckily both the sponsor and the daughter seemed content with the daughter paying her dues in this business. Things were not as bad as they could've been.</p><p> </p><p>

..........Success was within sight, Ogiwara just knew it.</p><p> </p><p>

-5SSW's episode of Showcase, covering the semifinal show of the Reign Supreme Tour, drew a crowd of 142 paid with a few comps, and did slightly above 12,000 viewers in a very late night timeslot. Despite the number, Shogun TV is said to be happy with the rating and the quality of the show.</p><p> </p><p>

-Sakura Sada's re-appearance against Monster Ishimura is said to be a one-off for now, although 5-Star are possibly open to bringing her in for a few more matches as a jobber.</p><p> </p><p>

-As for other non-contracted workers: Hoshiko Tagawa worked an opening match billed as a tryout against Erin Marcelin, and was said to have been decent. Aki Kamio and Yayoi Kurmochi got a tryout as a tag team called "Young Lightning" in a dark match, and were said to have looked terrible against the TermiNation. Emiko Miyoshi got a tryout against Yuma Maruya and was said to have shown signs of potential, but also a lot of nerves. All 4 are expected to be in line to work tours at some point in the future.</p><p> </p><p>

-Erin Marcelin's "tryout match" was in fact not a tryout, and she is contracted to appear until the end of the February tour. It is expected that she'll be used in opening matches and won't be getting a further push.</p><p> </p><p>

-There was a pre-show tag match with Team SUB and the Uprising taking on Kaede Sugiyama, Kinuye Mushashibo, Miwako Katsukawa, and Thea Davis that was said to be a very good 10 minute broadway. Sugiyama and Mushashibo are expected to resume their occasional tag team as "The Stone Soliders".</p><p> </p><p>

-Backstage people were said to be very impressed with the Yoshifumi/Lotus match.</p><p> </p><p>

Whoa, I have Kamio and Kurmochi in my custom backyard WLW joshi counterpart and while they're sloppy as **** they just <em>click</em> together, do the chemistry effects work for tag teams too? Miyoshi is my champion currently, since she's good (for a backyard level fed) and marketable. I'd thought about putting Kamio and Kurmochi in a tag team but I'm not sure about how chemistry would influence that, it's the same with Kichi Mochizuki and Nami Genda - except the latter was able to have 40+ matches from time to time.

OOC: Kamio and Kurmochi might be making more appearances later idk. They had good chem in a couple test saves but bad chem here, so I'll be fixing that to neutral in the editor. No it's not cheating shut up :p They might make a few cameos as jobbers down the line.

I'll be throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall with the local talent to see what sticks. Genda and Miyoshi will be making appearances at some point mebbe. Thanks for following along, good luck if you ever resurrect Rumble Roses.

5SSW News And Notes

by "JoshiJosh6" Joshua Prosser

GYUe7nb.jpg

5-Star held their press conference today, covered by friend of the site Ken Suzuki. Salutations to our followers across the Pacific drink, and many thanks to him for providing these cliff's notes:

-About 20 people showed up to this press conference, most from the Japanese wrestling mags. Owner and CEO Sensational Ogiwara thanked them for coming, said she'd take questions later, and got right down to business.

-Ogiwara first off revealed that the company was adopting a massive shift in strategy starting right now in 2020. This shift was due to a generous investment from an anonymous benefactor and fan of the company, who had sympathy for Japanese womens wrestling in these trying post-tsunami times. 5-Star will be using this investment to increase the production quality of 5-Star, and said increase helped secure the recent Shogun TV deal.

-Ogiwara confirms that the TV deal will air extended tour highlights, and big shows in full. Ogiwara has high hopes for a beneficial relationship between 5-Star and Shogun TV, and notes that the first episode of 5SSW Showcase dramatically exceeded expectations.

-Ogiwara then announces a key shift in the timing of big events, that had been requested by some fans for a while now. Ogiwara then reveals a posterboard with a new schedule:

January: Reign Supreme

February: Big Crush!

March: Queendom Parade

April: Hall Of Fame

May: Women of Wrestling

June: Wrestle Challenge

July: J Grand Prix

August: JoshiMania

September: Heart's Champion

October: Japan Slam

November: Dynamo Tag League

December: Final Attack

-Ogiwara notes that they moved JoshiMania over to summer to make attendance easier for 5-Star's young fans on school break, and also to come after the J Grand Prix, which will now grant it's victor a title shot in the main event of the upcoming JoshiMania.

-Ogiwara also announces that the April Hall of Fame show will be the end of a "Fan Appreciation Week" over spring break, which will have two special events with a reduction in ticket prices proceeding the Hall of Fame show, and plans for a new 3rd tournament in 5-Star to serve as the main attraction.

-Ogiwara mentions that all big shows will take place in Friday Week 2 every month after Reign Supreme, in order to avoid scheduling conflicts with other companies.

-Ogiwara also mentions that fans of 5-Star can expect to see more outside talent from across the world making tour appearances, with former champions from across the globe being negotiated with to appear on the Big Crush! tour.

-Finally before taking questions: Ogiwara then announces that she's taking steps to be away from the on-screen part of wrestling, and is delegating some on-camera responsibilites to a new 5SSW Vice President, and the latest signing by the company: A TV personality named Kaiya Kuwahara, who comes down a set of stairs and introduces herself to the press.

38BdHBV.jpg

-Kuwahara is a TV news personality in Kansai who has also done some acting, some voiceover work in anime, and some small-time films. Kuwahara is being given "matchmaking powers" under the authority of Ogiwara, and will be used as her "voice" on TV going forward.

-Kuwahara greets the press with a remarkably sunny disposition, and says its an honour to be a part of 5 Star Supreme Wrestling, a promotion she's loved since childhood. Kuwahara says she'll do her best to serve the interests of 5-Star fans, and resolves to make matches that will entertain the fans and bring prestige to the company.

-Ogiwara then takes questions, and answers a lot of them basically confirming and clarifying what she just said, as the reporters try not to be obvious while ogling Kuwahara. (I think a lot of these reporters are actually the coffee fetchers lol.)

-Ogiwara is asked for the names of any future wrestlers coming in to tour. Ogiwara says negotiations are still ongoing, but says to expect wrestlers from Mexico and Europe, among other locales. Ogiwara also states her interest in the buildup of Indian wrestling, and hopes for a future star to come from there someday.

-Ogiwara is asked about the reason for the pushback to Saturday of Reign Supreme. Ogiwara clarifies that it was a venue problem with the Osaka East Volleyball Centre for Friday, and also mentioned that the pushback would enable Thea Davis time to make it over from her European commitments anyways so its a win-win.

-Ogiwara is asked about the status of youngster Erin Marcelin. Ogiwara says Marcelin shows promise so far after her successful tryout, and is contracted to appear until the conclusion of the Big Crush tour, with future tours possible if she works hard.

-Ogiwara is asked if 5-Star will get a different timeslot on Shogun soon. Ogiwara is optimistic about getting the show aired earlier in the day once they've built up more trust with the network (they've got the graveyard death slot at the moment, but did well for it on the first night at least).

-Ogiwara is asked about who we can expect to be inducted next into the Hall of Fame. Ogiwara won't say anything yet but reveals that it is a former champion.

-Ogiwara gets the standard rumourmonger question about Yakuza involvement and firmly denies it.

-Ogiwara concludes the press conference shortly afterwards.

Ted finished reading the post on TEW.com. Nothing super groundbreaking was covered, as his new-found poker buddies had talked about most of this while cleaning Ted out. Still, Ted found something interesting that wasn't said by anyone, be it TEW.com or company employees.

No one seemed to know that Alexander Marcelin was behind the 5-Star investments.

Well, Ted had to assume Ogiwara knew (cause she legitimately owned the company nowadays and it wasn't a storyline thing like some dummies online thought). No one else seemed to know about who was behind the investment though, and no one seemed to have a special opinion of Erin and Ted backstage. Furthermore, Ted wasn't sure if even Erin knew, or if she did know and didn't care.

Odds are, Alexander had been keeping things hush-hush, to avoid having Erin becoming a social pariah with the stigma of getting bought into the company. If that was the case, then protecting that secret was the most important thing Ted would be doing on this island. Daddy buys his girl into a company....... yeah TEW.com would eat that up. At least the cover story of Erin impressing Japanese photographers in her first ever match and getting hired seemed to be the accepted version of events. So far.

Ted flipped his laptop shut and packed up his briefcase. Unfortunately he had some actual legitimate business to do on Strathcona-Fremont's dime, so it was best to make sure they knew he was going through the motions at least........

Figures that I would make a press conference post where half its reason for existence is to announce a new authority figure, then forget to actually announce it. D'oh!

Anyways, edited the post. Kaiya Kuwahara is a character I made up and added to the DB to basically cut promos better than Ogiwara, she has 70s-80s in a lot of entertainment attributes, 40 overness in Kansai, and 17 everywhere else in Japan. She's a bit of a idol type that can rock the mic.

Again, prediction key for Reign Supreme will be up tomorrow, and the card will be up on Saturday.

Thea Davis vs Erin Marcelin

I see Erin getting a push for investment

The TermiNation (Unstoppable Tai/Toku Kijmuta) vs local competitors

Local competitors = win for TermiNation

The Hell Raisers (Romi Yamato/Sae Akutagawa) vs Ochiyo Iijima and Hana Ajibana

Named team over makeshift duo

Monster Ishimura vs Shiori Jippensha

Let's see if Ishimura gets a Monster push.

5SSW Tag Team Title V1 Defense: The Uprising (Talia Quinzel/Selina Svelte) © vs Shining Force (Otsune Tsumura/Yukiko Matsumara)

I don't see The Uprising losing at the second hurdle

5SSW Triangle Title V2 Defense: MAYA © vs Eri Sato vs Yu Hashimoto

Seeing MAYA giving another notch to her defenses.

5SSW All-Asian Title V5 Defense: Miwako Katsukawa © vs Maki Yoshifumi

I just like Miwako more.

5SSW World Title V3 Defense: Yuma Maruya © vs Megumi Nakajima

Yuma was one of the best performers in 2016, hope she still is in 2020.
