Reminiscing: .400 Studios

Insomnia had me googling some of my old favorites, and quickly I was sucked into a deep dark hole reading old reviews and old forums for games like Tournament Dreams Basketball or TPF.

Any of you guys around when this company was still active?

Many of the developers have clear ties to this company and the text sim world: Arlie Rahn and Adam Ryland worked there as did Gary Gorski from Wolverine Studios.

I was midway through high school at the time when I stumbled onto the games being developed there, and I remember skipping school to stay home and play all day uninterrupted. As a person that grew up with console games like Madden and NBA Jam stepping "back" to text sims seemed lame to my friends, but all these games were really revolutionary to me. As an original Michigander, I could finally build sports programs/franchises that were you know functional. I could get completely immersed in the playing careers of under-recruited overlooked prospects. It was a pretty exciting time for me and that passion has only grown. I have been in love with sports/text sims since and played pretty much any kind I could get my hands on since.

It is crazy how all of that work got locked away and killed, but it is pretty special to see how it still survives today. I owned, I think, disc versions of these at some point, but they are unfortunately scattered to the winds. I should/coulda/woulda made copies or ISOs of them.

Is anyone here holdovers from that time? Any related stories? Or better any developers want to share some experiences?

I bought TEW 2004 from .400 Studios and I remember the game fondly. Other than that I don't really remember much about them. I do kind of wish there were a way to get TEW 2004 again. If nothing else just to look through the game world. The rosters, the worker. Although Richard Eisen's new bio says he doesn't really make himself an onscreen character. In TEW 2004 he led a group called the supremacists. Which I think included Black Hat Bailey, Runaway Train and a really young Remo.

Oh, I was around back then. I remember that first TEW very well, as well as those .400 message boards. Think TEW 2004 was where I made my infamous (to me at least) mistake of main eventing a show with an AJ Styles vs. Paul Heyman match... it was supposed to be Paul London, but I mis-clicked. I also remember posting something about someone in the WWE apparently having a best of 637 series going on in my game. Not sure why I remember those two things so well, but... yeah. I mostly played real world back then, so... that was a long time ago.

Pretty good times, I think.

<p>Could've been, I'm not sure. It seems like Booker T was involved, and something way back at the back left corner of my brain, just behind the cobwebs, wants to say the other guy was Christian... but after all these years, who can say for sure? </p><p> </p><p>

Just seemed like they went one on one on every single WWE show that aired. It was a might different. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>
