Board Effort Mod - AI Reboot

Recommended Posts

I've been on this project for 10 years and about to hit 50. The project predates my involvement by at least 2 years and now with no one close left to lose in my life I'm ready to ride this train til the wheels fall off

A number of new features kinda sets the mod back some but one other in particular brings it right back forward fixing 3 major problems it's had since day 1.

Just so everyone knows this is a fictional mod.

The full original name is: "Board Effort Towards a Fictional Universe"

We will be converting the project over from 2008. See the link above for reference. Presently, Rayelek has the data. He has intimated that he will be converting it over to 2010 and working on it. From there, the data will be sent over to Fullhouse, who has some workers/promotions he wants to integrate.

Stennick is still spearheading Mexico last I've heard, but if that has changed then we can begin to discuss the creative direction of that area, as well as the direction of Japan, Europe and Australia, which haven't received a lot of love yet.

The UK and U.S are progressing along nicely, although submissions are of course still being accepted.

I think we should shoot for a target of 1000 workers before we begin the process of stat balancing and really fitting the data together in the game world. TEW 2010 has provided us with a myriad of resources that should make this process much easier.

TEW2008: http://www.greydogsoftware.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43745

Through this community I've developed something of a love for rendering which has in turn caused me to start several ill fated fictional universes (in the vein of the Kobeverse) using renders instead of pictures. Said projects that I hoped would eventually become something more.

What that project and doing the Kobeverse (started in 2007 and still working on it) has taught me is that doing mods from the ground up is a lot of work. The GDSverse, world of darkfire and Dreamverse, 9000verse, multimedia mod etc. are all examples of how difficult it is for one or two people to do a mod from the ground up.

What I realized is that the mods in the community that have been completed have been real world mods and CVerse mods that have either benefited from many users working together or else have been built on top of earlier data sets. In short, teamwork works. ^_^ While the other fictional mods being made in the community have great people with lots of talent working on them we are still just individuals who have a finite amount of time. Plus, there are some things in modding we are better at than others (Entering title histories makes me weep).

So here's what I'm thinking:

Lots of people in the community have done/started mods and are good at different things when it comes to modding. Some people are great at rendering workers, some people can do belts, some can do logos/banners etc., some really have an understanding from stat/game balance, some have the patience to do things like long title histories, and some people have the creative juice to churn out bios/backstories etc. There are a couple of people that have done group projects on the net before and can consolidate things as well.

So why don't we harness that and make a mod? :)

If you've read this far and still play TEW/visit the forums you're probably just the sort of person that could help with a project like this. ^_^

This isn't a GDSverse type project - not exactly. I'm not talking about people simply filling out a form creating their workers or even simply sending in some data. That data will have to fit within the game world before we put it together.

For example, once we decide how many workers we want to have in the data, how many promotions we want per region, the size of those regions and their respective products we'll have to decide how skilled workers in each region need to be (how many A* brawlers, A brawlers, B+ brawlers etc). We'll also have to space those workers out age wise across generations to have parity (i.e. 90% of the industry isn't 22). Finally, we'll come to a bio format that all of the workers bios have to fit, and maybe a word minimum.

So it's awesome that you have 100 workers that you can send in a data file. but are you willing to fit them into the games world? I say that to say that everyone that's working on the project (no matter how small their role) is going to have to put in some time. The thing is that if everyone puts in a little bit of time we can have a great project done by the community and with all of their ideas.

Nothing is set in stone yet, obviously. This isn't my project, it's a team project so everything is subject to change. ^_^

Right now I'm just looking to see who is interested. If you want to work on the project just post that you're interested and what you'd be interested on working on. I'm assuming most people will be interested in doing workers on some level, but there will still need to be someone that looks through things and cleans up errors.

Maybe I just wasted my time and no one is interested. But we'll see. :D

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="color:#FF0000;">OLD PROBLEMS</span></span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

One of the major problems a mod created by the community at large has is that each individual company exists in it's own little pocket. There is literally no continuity with any of the other companies. No workers have connections outside of that company. Only exception was when a contributor made more than one company or created unemployed talent and those yet to debut. Or when a later contributor tried to add in some connections. </p><p> </p><p>

Problem #2: Hardly anyone wanted to mess with title histories especially if they were old companies.</p><p> </p><p>

TEW2020 solves both of these and numerous other continuity issues.</p>

<p>And one final reserved spot. </p><p> </p><p>

Currently recovering from I don't know what. Had a headache for 8 straight days. Then woke up feeling like I wrestled all night long and woke up in a pool of sweat and no headache. So will update and fill in the reserve spots as I feel up it.</p>

<p>Looking over the data and surprised by the number of belts we've had made... felt like less.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

On the other hand surprised at the lack of events... thought we had more.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

Any renderers willing to donate randoms is a plus. </p><p> </p><p>

Also have a handful of special star render projects... I know most renderers don't do requests but if any feel inclined then pm me.</p>

I could do something in the Southern Mediterranean region, maybe.

Or Southern Europe? I did like some others have done and readjusted Southern Mediterranean to include the North African coast (Eastern Morocco to Egypt), Israel, Lebanon, Cyprus and Malta. What exact location did you have in mind?

I'm not around GDS as much anymore, but this is sure a blast from the past! I know I had really specific plans for a few of the companies I had made, and most of them were going to be ported over to my own mod that I haven't worked at all on with 2020 yet, so I'm still on board to help with this if need be.

I know you had BDW and it's roster but not sure what else besides the ZNTV broadcaster owned by Zenith Media Group.

Do we have to work directly on the database, or just send you outlines? Because in the database you sent me, there seem to be a few issues, maybe due to the jump from 2016 to 2020.

There's definitely some things in need of fixing which is why I'm working from 4 different sets of data. I know broadcasters need a complete overhaul maybe even to the point of rebuilding from scratch. Also seems like a disproportionate amount of workers were assigned the class clown attribute among other things.

Best way for me to incorporate new data is for you to create a mini-database and then I'll import it. You can use the copy of the data to check for conflicts.

Just wanted to drop this little mini-bomb in here...

July 22nd... 2 days before my birthday my mom will be undergoing surgery for ovarian cancer. I honestly don't know how this will play out but everyone is confident the surgery will be successful. As far as we can tell it's caught very early in stage 1 but at the same time she's 73 and her health has fluctuated up and down over the last 10 years. There's always a risk in surgery even when healthy.
