NYCW: East Coast Resurgence

Following the shock retirement of Larry Vessey, TEW.com has learnt that new investment has been found to keep NYCW afloat. In a move that surprised many, Vessey’s controlling stake in the company has been bought out by none other than recently retired former DAVE & USPW star Chris Caulfield. In a brief statement to the press, “The Hardcore American” signalled his intentions to modernise the promotion, with an emphasis on “quality in-ring work and impactful storytelling”.

Steve Flash & Michael Bull have been retained as lead road agent & head referee respectively, but long time lead announcer Rock Downpour has followed Vessey out of the door. Citing “creative differences” as the reason for his departure, Mr Downpour will be sorely missed by the company. TEW.com understands that Ron South will be promoted to lead announcer in Rock Downpour’s absence, starting from “NYCW Rush Hour” next week.

The third and final departure from the company in the wake of Caulfield’s arrival is “Devastating Don” Smith. The New York based super heavyweight was deemed surplus to requirements by the new management and has been unavailable for comment.

Next week, TEW.com will have an exclusive interview with new owner Chris Caulfield where he will lay out his plans for the company and let us know what to expect from “Rush Hour”.

<p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">Exclusive Interview with new NYCW owner Chris Caulfield</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> KJarvs: This is KJarvs from TEW.com, here in New York with new NYCW owner, head booker and general manager Chris Caulfield. Chris, thanks for speaking with me.</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>Chris Caulfield: No problem, glad to be back in New York.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: Let’s start with the obvious question – Why New York City Wrestling?</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: Well, I’ve been looking for an opportunity to stay in the sport ever since I left USPro last year. I heard Larry was looking to retire and the opportunity was too good to pass up.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: You’ve never booked a promotion before, let alone owned one; do you think it’ll be a steep learning curve?</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: Yes and No. Obviously I’ve never been in this position before, but you can’t get through 27 years in some of the world’s biggest companies without picking up a thing or two. I’m delighted that Steve (Flash) is staying on as my right hand man; he knows this company and these fans better than anyone so I’m very confident that between us, we can deliver my vision for this company.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: And what vision would that be?</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: That’s simple. Bring NYCW into the 21st Century. This is no longer your grandfather’s favourite promotion. We’re going to be bringing you the best matches, the hottest storylines and the greatest shows ever seen in New York. We’re keeping the strong storytelling history of this promotion but adding a little “Hardcore American” flavour, all the while showcasing our home grown talent and the best of the North American independent scene.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: A little “Hardcore American” flavour? That sounds quite the departure from the old school traditions of NYCW? Are you not worried about alienating your long time fans?</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: Not at all KJ, this is an update, not a reinvention. We’re keeping the best parts of the Stomper & Vessey era NYCW and adding a host of new ideas to reinvigorate the company. There might be some minor growing pains as the fans adjust to our new style but I’m confident that our improved in-ring product and fresh ideas will grow NYCW to reach new heights.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: Can you give us a taste of these “New Ideas”?</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: Sure, I can’t give everything away *chuckles* but I can give you a taste to whet your appetite. My NYCW will see a much wider variety of match types, a renewed focus on brawling and hardcore wrestling and a twist on the concept of a champion’s rematch clause: Any wrestler who loses a title not only gets a rematch with the guy who beats them, but he gets to choose a stipulation for the rematch. </strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: Wow, so plenty to look forward to then!</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: Absolutely KJ, it’s a bright new dawn for NYCW</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: Many of our readers are hotly anticipating your first show Chris, with Rush Hour just a week away, who can we expect to see face off to start the year?</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: Well it’s a stacked card, let me tell you! We’ll have NYCW’s first “Tag Team Turmoil” match to showcase our stacked doubles division, two debutants will be facing each other with an NYCW contract on the line, Animal Harker and The New York Doll will take part in the first ever “Brooklyn Brawl” match and our main event will be a triple threat to crown a new #1 contender for Brutus Milano’s Empire title.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: Lots to look forward to there! One final question before I let you go Chris, can fans expect to see you back in the ring anytime soon?</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: I don’t think so KJ, no. I’m here as an owner and a booker, not as a wrestler. One must never say never again to these things of course, but my role at the shows will be as the general manager, not a competitor.</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> KJ: Thanks again for speaking to us Chris.</p><p> </p><p> <span style="color:#000080;"><strong>CC: No Problem, enjoy the show!</strong></span></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="50141" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">NYCW Rush Hour 2020</span></strong></p><p> <strong>Singles Match</strong></p><p> Crockett Tubbs vs Richie Riggins </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Singles Match (Non-Title)</strong></p><p> Masked Stranger vs Ray Snow</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Tag Team Turmoil</strong></p><p> Brooklyn’s Finest vs The Casey Brothers vs The Italian Americans vs The LA Stars</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Singles Match for an NYCW contract</strong></p><p> Connor Threepwood vs Philippe LaGrenier</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Brooklyn Brawl</strong></p><p> Animal Harker vs New York Doll</p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;">MAIN EVENT</span></strong></p><p> <strong>Triple Threat for #1 Contendership of the Empire Title</strong></p><p> Andrew Harper vs Riley McManus vs Tennessee William</p><p> </p><p> <em>Also featuring appearances from "The Hardcore American" Chris Caulfield, NYCW Empire Champion Brutus Milano and more!</em></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> Bonus Prediction: Who will take the pinfall/submission in the main event? </p></div></blockquote>

I'll hold off on predicting 'til I get more of a sense of how you'll be using the roster but I'm definitely interested in what you'll be doing with NYCW. What're you doing with the product? It sounds like you're changing it and I'd be interested in seeing what to.

Challenging myself to book a completely new product: attitude entertainment. It's a hell of a change from the 70s wrasslin style that NYCW is used to, so Chris has a big job on his hands!

NYCW Rush Hour 2020

Opening Segment – Chris Caulfield addresses the crowd

• Chris Caulfield welcomes the fans to “The New Era” of NYCW

• He promises hard hitting matches, impactful storytelling and a few surprises along the way, introducing the surprise return of Honest Frank

• Frank says he’s glad to be back home and is looking forward to telling the fans what’s really going on from the announcer’s table

RATING: 52

Tag Team Turmoil

(Brooklyn’s Finest vs The Casey Brothers vs The Italian Americans vs The LA Stars)

• Brooklyn’s Finest had the better of this match until Sal DiMeo & Machine Gun Marino came out to assist Vito & Luca in a prolonged ringside beat down of Hawkeye Calhoun.

• Distracted by the punishment of his partner, Freedom Eagle was hit with a Star Destroyer courtesy of LA Star #2.

• Before Michael Bull could finish counting the pinfall for the young flier, LA Star 2 was dragged out of the ring by Tully Casey. Chuck Casey swooped in to make the cover and steal the victory for The Casey Brothers.

• The Casey Brothers win the Tag Team Turmoil match in 9:57 when Chuck Casey pins Freedom Eagle: RATING 32

Post Match

• After the match, The Boys from the Yukon come down to the ring holding their tag championship belts.

• At the sight of the Canadian hosses, Sal DiMeo calls off his boys and the family retreat to the back.

• White Horse & Mort stare down the Casey Brothers before holding their belts aloft and growling “You’re Next!” in stereo.

• The Boys from the Yukon stare down their new contenders: RATING 34

Connor Threepwood vs Philippe LaGrenier

• In a classic matchup between an old school baby face and an arrogant heel, Connor used his arsenal of fiendish holds and powerful throws to inflict damage upon Philippe.

• LaGrenier rallied, using his greater reach to land a series of sharp kicks to the legs of his smaller opponent

• All it took was one mistake from Philippe however, and once he found himself locked into Threepwood’s Stretch Plum submission hold, the Canadian had no choice but to tap

• In a decent match, Connor Threepwood defeated Philippe LaGrenier by submission in 15:59 RATING 36

Brooklyn Brawl

(Animal Harker vs The New York Doll)

• The First Brooklyn Brawl in NYCW quickly spilled to the outside and both men fought through the crowd using whatever came to hand to inflict maximum damage on each other

• The crowd quickly turned on the competitors when they realised how violent the match was becoming as Animal Harker rained down chair shots on NYD and the Doll responded with a baseball bat across his opponents back

• The finish came suddenly, as Harker broke a beer bottle over the head of his opponent, who went down like a sack of potatoes. Ringside doctors rushed to the aide of the New York Doll and the referee declared the match over by stoppage.

• In a decent match, Animal Harker defeated The New York Doll in 9:47 when referees had to stop the match: RATING 17

Crockett Tubbs vs Richie Riggins

• This was a match of skill vs size as Crockett Tubbs used his technical skill to out-manoeuvre his larger opponent

• When Tubbs had the Subway STF locked in and Riggins fading, “The Body’s” manager, Cheerleader Nicki, created just enough of a distraction for Riggins to escape, hit the body bag and catch Tubbs with a flash pinfall to take the win.

• In a match that had sub-par wrestling but a decent reaction from the crowd, Richie Riggins defeated Crockett Tubbs in 7:35 with a flash pinfall: RATING: 32

A Frank Conversation

• NYCW Hall of Famer Honest Frank leaves the announce desk to sit in one of two armchairs set up in the ring. He invites tonight’s guest for a “Frank” Conversation – Brutus Milano

• Frank and Brutus discuss tonight’s triple threat Main Event and Frank asks Milano who he’d prefer to face. Brutus says it doesn’t matter, as he could beat any of them

RATING: 32

Masked Stranger vs Ray Snow

• Even without his title on the line, Masked Stranger is a fierce competitor and he launched himself at the wiley veteran with impressive vigour.

• Denny King was on guest commentary for this match ahead of his title belt with Stranger next month and his presence seemed to spur the Tri-State Regional champion on to a particularly great performance.

• After around 10 minutes of fairly one sided action, Masked Stranger locked in The Cobra Clutch in the centre of the ring and Snow submitted in rather meek fashion

• In a decent match, Masked Stranger defeated Ray Snow in 10:05 by submission with The Cobra Clutch: RATING 31

MAIN EVENT - #1 Contendership Triple Threat

(Andrew Harper vs Riley McManus vs Tennessee Williams)

• The main story thread for this match was the animosity between Harper & McManus, with both men focusing primarily on each other and allowing Tennessee William to pick and choose when he wanted to get involved in the match

• Harper set up a table in the corner of the ring and went to send McManus through it with a running bulldog, but McManus countered to send the muscular brawler through the table instead.

• Unfortunately for McManus, he walked straight into a spinning back fist from William who sent him tumbling out of the ring. This allowed the Tennessee native to take advantage of the prone Harper, hit The Devil’s Crossroads and pin him for the 1-2-3!

• In a Good match, Tennessee William defeated Riley McManus & Andrew Harper in 19:43, when Tennessee William pinned Andrew Harper with a Devil’s Crossroads: RATING: 49

TEW.com Update

Last Night, New York City Wrestling held NYCW Rush Hour in The Weston Gymnasium, and drew 283 fans. The feedback has been very positive; it was a good show apparently. The triple threat main event was easily the match of the night, though the opening address from General Manager Chris Caulfield & debut of Connor Threepwood were also well received. Some fans were left disappointed by the lack of recognisable names, but given Caulfield has stated his intentions to build his own stars from within, it seems unlikely that any big stars will be flown in from elsewhere in the near future. TEW.com also understands that Hawkeye Calhoun suffered serious injury at the hands of The DiMeo family after Machine Gun Marino beat him down with a crowbar during the Tag Team Turmoil match.

We now have a good idea of what to expect from “NYCW Empire State” next month, after the match card was revealed on the NYCW website. Empire State will feature two “Tryout” matches where independent wrestlers will attempt to beat an existing roster member to earn an NYCW contract, Freedom Eagle will take on Machine Gun Milano in a no-DQ grudge match to avenge the beating inflicted upon Hawkeye Calhoun last month, new signing Connor Threepwood will be in action against Richie Riggins and all 3 title belts will be defended. The Boys from the Yukon will defend the tag team titles against the Casey Brothers, Masked Stranger defends the tri-state regional belt in a much anticipated match against Denny King and in the Main Event, Brutus Milano defends the Empire Title against #1 Contender Tennessee William. Using his bodyweight and the complexity of the fearsome Cobra Clutch against his opponent, King was able to keep Masked Stranger down for a surprise 3 count and win his first Championship in NYCW!</p><p> • In a decent match, Denny King defeated Masked Stranger in 18:03 by pinfall with a roll-up: <strong>RATING: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">36</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> <strong><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><span style="font-size:10px;">MAIN EVENT – EMPIRE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH</span></span></strong></p><p> <strong><em>Brutus Milano © vs Tennessee William</em></strong></p><p> • The match got off to a cautious start: these two men have been trading NYCW’s top belt for almost two years and are rightly cautious of each other’s offense.</p><p> • Tennessee William made the first move, attempting to land his spinning back fist, but Brutus saw it coming, ducked the move and was able to grab his opponent in a rear chin lock</p><p> • William was unable to escape, but manage to shuffle across the ring just enough to get his foot on the ropes and break the hold</p><p> • Now even warier of the champion than he had been before, Tennessee William rolled out of the ring to regroup, but was pursued relentlessly by Milano, who was determined to press his advantage</p><p> • As Milano rushed after him, William showed his despicable colours and threw the timekeeper at the champion, who collided with the hapless official in a pile on the floor, before springing to his feet and rejoining the challenger in the ring</p><p> • As the referee checked on timekeeper, Tennessee took advantage of the distraction to slip on a signet ring he’d hidden inside his trunks and hit Milano across the face with a sickening blow before returning the weapon to its hiding place. The referee missed the illegal assault, but returned his attention to the two competitors just in time to see Tennessee William hit the Devil’s Crossroad and cover Brutus Milano to win the match! </p><p> • In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, Tennessee William defeated Brutus Milano in 15:30 by pinfall after using a foreign object: <strong>RATING: </strong><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">50</span></strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong>SHOW RATING: </strong></span><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><span style="color:#A0522D;">45</span></strong></span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="50141" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Quick Results:<p> NYCW Empire State 2020</p><p> </p><p> Tryout Match</p><p> <strong>Geoff Borne</strong> vs Taylor Kidd</p><p> </p><p> Tryout Match</p><p> <strong>Riley McManus</strong> vs Zippy Deverell</p><p> </p><p> Singles Match</p><p> <strong>Connor Threepwood</strong> vs Richie Riggins</p><p> </p><p> Grudge Match</p><p> <strong>Freedom Eagle</strong> vs Machine Gun Marino</p><p> </p><p> Tri-State Regional Title Match</p><p> <strong>Denny King</strong> vs Masked Stranger ©</p><p> </p><p> Tag Team Title Match</p><p> <strong>The Boys from the Yukon © </strong>vs The Casey Brothers</p><p> </p><p> MAIN EVENT</p><p> Empire Title Match</p><p> Brutus Milano © vs <strong>Tennessee William </strong></p></div></blockquote>

I'll be trying to predict on the shows going forward now I have a bit of a better grasp of the roster and who you're looking to push.

Glad to have you along for the ride! The next TEW.com update featuring the card for Beasts of War should be up tomorrow afternoon/early evening (GMT) :)

<p><span style="font-size:18px;">TEW.com Update</span></p><p> </p><p> Last Night, New York City Wrestling held NYCW Empire State, selling out The Weston Gymnasium and drawing 300 fans. The feedback has been very positive; it was a good show apparently. The highlight of the show was the much anticipated Empire Title match between Brutus Milano & Tennessee William. William won the match to begin his 3rd reign as Empire Champion. Connor Threepwood impressed again in his victory over Richie Riggins and the performances of Denny King & Masked Stranger in the Tri-State Regional Championship match were also well received.</p><p> </p><p> Major developments away from the squared circle have seen NYCW improve their production values and sign a 6 month deal with new internet subscription service Wrestleworld. Despite the heavy financial investment to bring their presentation up to standard, it is expected to be a good move for the company long term, increasing their exposure across the country and opening a new revenue stream. TEW.com understands that NYCW are set to receive 55% of all revenue generated by on-demand sales on the platform.</p><p> </p><p> With more eyes set to be on the product than ever before, owner and general manager Chris Caulfield has revealed that NYCW Beasts of War next month will feature a double main event! Masked Stranger has immediately invoked his rematch clause for Tri-State Regional Title and given the incredibly close finish to their first bout, it comes as little surprise that he has chosen a 2/3 falls stipulation to be in place for his rematch with Denny King. The second half of the main event will see top NYCW stars Riley McManus & Andrew Harper settle their ongoing feud in a tables match! </p><p> </p><p> The night will also see two tag team matches, including the NYCW debut of “The Fighting Irish” (Crockett Tubbs & Connor Threepwood) and a strap match between Animal Harker and The New York Doll. The undercard will feature Geoff Borne against a local talent trying to secure an NYCW contract and a the first of two singles matches between The Boys from the Yukon and The LA Stars – if the stars can win either match then they will get a tag title shot. One final titbit released to the public is that Beasts of War will feature a big announcement from Caulfield himself. With this being the last show before the hotly anticipated “King of New York” in April, NYCW Beasts of War is surely not a show to be missed.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="50141" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><strong><span style="font-size:12px;">NYCW Beasts of War Match Card</span></strong><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Singles Match</em></strong></p><p> Geoff Borne vs Local Talent</p><p> </p><p> <em><strong>Singles Match</strong></em></p><p> Howlin’ Mad Mort vs LA Star #1</p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Tag Team Match</em></strong></p><p> Ray Snow & Richie Riggins vs The Fighting Irish</p><p> </p><p> <em><strong>Tag Team Match</strong></em></p><p> Brooklyn’s Finest vs The Italian Americans</p><p> </p><p> <strong><em>Strap Match</em></strong></p><p> Animal Harker vs The New York Doll</p><p> </p><p> <span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><em>Tables Match</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"> Andrew Harper vs Riley McManus</span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"> </span><span style="font-size:12px;"><strong><em>2/3 Falls Match for the Tri-State Regional Championship</em></strong></span></p><p><span style="font-size:12px;"> Denny King © vs Masked Stranger</span></p><p> </p><p> <em>Also Featuring</em></p><p> “A Frank Conversation” with new Empire Champion Tennessee William</p><p> General Manager Chris Caulfield with a Big Announcement!</p></div></blockquote></div><p></p><p></p>

Thank you TRyker2710 & Herrbear for your predictions! I'm still staggered that anyone else is reading my work, let alone commenting and predicting. I'll be posting the write up of "NYCW Beasts of War" tomorrow during the early evening (GMT) :)

NYCW Beasts of War 2020

Opening Segment – Chris Caulfield’s Big Announcement

• Caulfield came out to a warm reception and immediately started hyping both matches in the double main event

• His much promised “big announcement” was that with the King of New York battle royal next week, every man who won tonight would get a spot in the match. The fans, many of whom had been hoping for a star signing, seemed slightly underwhelmed.

RATING: 26

Geoff Borne vs Dominic DeGraff

• Geoff’s music hit and the experienced high flyer came out to polite applause, looking every inch the favourite as he stretched in the ring and awaited his opponent.

• Thirty seconds or so passed, but here was still no sign of an opponent for Geoff before Zippy Deverell appeared on the ramp

• He explained to a bemused Geoff that Dominic had encountered some car trouble on the way to the venue, and that he, Zip the Lip, was stepping in as a replacement opponent for the opening match

Geoff Borne vs Zippy Deverell

• Taking advantage of the element of surprise, Zippy tossed aside his microphone, slid into the ring and immediately hit his spinning bulldog finisher on Borne!

• Borne kicked out at 2, far too experienced to fall victim to such a cheap trick and immediately set about taking control of the match

• Unfortunately for Zippy, that early 2 count was as close as he would get to a win as Borne was soon well in control, hitting the Borne Again for a 2 count, then a second to pick up the win.

• In a bout that had decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Geoff Borne defeated Zippy Deverell in 06:57 by Pinfall with a Borne Again: RATING: 32

Post Match

• General Manager Chris Caulfield, reappears on the ramp with a face like thunder

CC: Zippy! You don’t even work here! What the Hell are you doing in my ring?

ZD: Sure I work here Boss, I beat that Roger McMichaels guy last month!

CC: No, you didn’t. You LOST to Riley McManus.

ZD: Besides, you should be thanking me, not everyone would be so willing to take a fight at such short notice. Such a shame about Dom’s car trouble.

CC: Funnily enough, I just spoke to Dominick on the phone. That car trouble? Someone cut his brake lines!

ZD: Jeez, that sucks! I feel for the guy.

CC: Whatever Zip, just get out of my ring. I never want to see you in NYCW again.

ZD: But I won my contract last mo...

CC: OUT!

• Segment Rating: 44

Ray Snow & Richie Riggins vs The Fighting Irish

• The announcement that the winner would get a place in next month’s high stakes battle royal added a little extra zing to this match, all four men throwing themselves vigorously into the contest and looking to secure the win themselves

• The Fighting Irish were clearly in step with one another, despite it being seven years since they held tag gold in NOTBPW and worked well as a team to keep up with their more muscular foes

• The match appeared to be over when Richie Riggins sent Threepwood to the mat with his Body Bag finisher, but the pinfall was broken up by Ray Snow! The older man was clearly determined to get the pinfall himself to book his ticket to the King of the Ring match.

• With his opponents bickering, Connor Threepwood was able to get across to make the tag to Crockett Tubbs, then warded off Snow as Tubbs cinched in the Subway STF to make Riggins submit

• In a decent match, The Fighting Irish defeated Ray Snow & Richie Riggins in 09:41 when Crockett Tubbs submitted Richie Riggins with a subway STF after there’d been a bad miscommunication involving Ray Snow. RATING: 36

A Frank Conversation with...Tennessee William

• Frank’s guest this week is new Empire Champion, Tennessee William, who comes out with the gold on his shoulder, looking every inch like the cat that got the cream

• After a few easy questions to start that achieve little besides giving the champion a chance to use his catchphrase, Frank asks William if he regrets having to cheat to win the title. Tennessee begins to protest his innocence when he is blindsided by Brutus Milano

• The deposed former champion lays into Tennessee William with a primal rage not seen from him before, leaving the new champ in a crumpled heap.

• Grabbing Frank’s mic, Brutus growls “Next Month. Rematch. No Holds Barred.” He takes a long look at the Empire Title, shudders, and departs.

RATING: 54

Brooklyn’s Finest vs The Italian Americans

• The feud between Brooklyn’s Finest & The DiMeo family rumbled on in this tag match, with Brooklyn’s Finest showing their quality in the ring, but the playing field levelled by way of underhand tactics by Sal’s enforcers.

• Of course, it wasn’t long before the head of the family came out to influence the match, accompanied by Machine Gun Marino, who was wielding a length of heavy chain.

• With the crisp tandem offense of the masked duo keeping them on top in the match, Marino started swinging the chain above his head in a lasso motion, only to crack Vito Pirelli off the apron by mistake

• Already struggling, Luca Sacramoni was now totally isolated in the ring and soon succumbed to a pinfall after Freedom Eagle hit the Brooklyn Bridger

• In a bout that had a decent reaction from the crowd but sub-par wrestling, Brooklyn’s Finest defeated The Italian Americans in 10:16 when Freedom Eagle pinned Luca Sacramoni with a Brooklyn Bridger: RATING: 36

Animal Harker vs The New York Doll

(Strap Match)

• After NYD’s comments during his “Frank Conversation” last month, it was clear to the crowd that these two competitors had gone from a competitive rivalry to a clear dislike for each other. Neither man needed the strap as an excuse to get in close as both unloaded stiff strikes and powerful throws

• After a fast paced struggle, Harker connected with a Stump Piledriver, but NYD had just enough in him to roll out of the ring, leaving Harker to just run out of strap before he could touch the furthest turnbuckle.

• Over and again, Harker would send his opponent to the floor, but the big man just couldn’t get the leverage to touch all four turnbuckles, trying the power move and dash strategy several times to no effect

• The crowd grew restless with the convoluted set-up of the match, but rallied behind NYD as he refused to give in and became the first man to use his mind as well as his muscle. The skinny punk rocker had just enough sense left in him to sweep the leg of his larger opponent and then used the strap to bind Hacker’s feet together!

• Clearly exhausted and almost dead on his feet after the punishment he’d taken, The New York Doll trudged round the ring to touch all four turnbuckles, dragging the dead weight of the bound Harker behind him. The crowd seemed split as to whether to cheer or boo the ingenuity of the smaller man!

• In a decent match, The New York Doll defeated Animal Harker in a strap match in 12:10 when The New York Doll was the first to touch all the corner: RATING: 28

Post Match

• General Manager Chris Caulfield came out again, this time applauding and with a rare smile on his face.

CC: That’s just the kind of contest I want to see in this company – hard hitting, exciting and competitive! I’m putting you BOTH into the King of the Ring battle royal next month!

RATING: 32

Howlin’ Mad Mort vs LA Star #1

• Both men arrived in the ring for this match with their tag team partners in tow, but the opening stages were fought in good competitive spirit, with plenty of encouragement from ringside but no interference

• As the match wore on, the desperation of the Stars to earn a tag title shot began to show, Star #2 pulling Mort off of his partner when a spear from the burly Canadian left LA Star #1 winded on his back

• Whitehorse Whittaker came round the ring and manhandled LA Star #2, pinning his arms behind his back and making him watch as Howlin’ Mad Mort hit a 1st, a 2nd and then a 3rd Tree Feller on LA Star #1 before finally allowing him the relative mercy of a pinfall loss.

• In a decent match, Howlin’ Mad Mort defeated LA Star #1 in 08:08 by pinfall with a Tree Feller: RATING: 34

CO-MAIN EVENT

Andrew Harper vs Riley McManus

(Tables Match)

• Going into this match, the commentary team put over the fact that Andrew Harper was unbeaten in tables matches, Riley might be a fan favourite, but he really had his work cut out here.

• Riley started in the ascendancy, wary of his opponent’s reputation but still taking the fight to him and really getting the crowd on side.

• An early impactful exchange saw McManus hit Harper with a lariat, only for the big man to rebound off the ring ropes and send the babyface to the canvas with a running bulldog. With his opponent incapacitated, Harper then spent the next minute setting up four tables at ringside, one on each side of the ring, much to the flagging crowd’s dismay.

• After catching his breath as Harper constructed, McManus regrouped and got himself to his feet to survey the newly erected furniture and assessing his options. After another exchange of strikes, Riley McManus got his opponent in position for a slingshot suplex over the ropes.

• Harper managed to grab the ring ropes on his way over them and clung on to force a painful landing on the apron, rather than a match-ending trip through a table.

• Frustrated at seeing his most powerful move fail to land him a victory, McManus dragged Harper back into the ring and set him up for another Slingshot Suplex. Harper however, was known as a table match specialist for good reason and heaved Riley over the ropes to the outside of the ring. Hitting Riley with an eye-watering low blow that left him clutching the ropes for support, Harper backed up and then ran at McManus with a Big Boot. Caught by surprise and square in the chest, Riley fell backwards off the apron and through a table, giving Andrew Harper yet another table match victory

• In a decent match, Andrew Harper defeated Riley McManus in a tables match in 15:12 when Riley McManus was put through a table: RATING: 30

CO-MAIN EVENT

Denny King © vs Masked Stranger

(Two out of Three Falls Match for the Tri-State Regional Championship)

• Masked Stranger came into this match at a million miles an hour, looking to use his stamina to his advantage in this longer match stipulation, whilst Denny King look to control the masked man with his array of strikes and throws.

• After a long struggle for ring position, King was able to manoeuvre Stranger into the corner, pound at his head with fists and elbows and then launch into a face first suplex to pick up the first fall.

• Stranger barely gave King a pause for breath before he flew onto the counterattack, striking hard and sending King to the mat with a cry of pain as he chopped at the champion’s legs with kicks.

• With King now on the mat, Stranger moved to capitalise, showing his mat wrestling pedigree to bypass the champion’s defences and lock on the Cobra Clutch! King had nowhere to go and with the hold locked on tight in the middle of the ring, he quickly tapped to concede the second fall but more importantly, break the hold and limit the damage.

• One fall apiece now after both men had used their signature finishers, a cagey tactical battle took us through the middle portion of the match, the competitors showing each other plenty of respect as they tried to find a way to pick up the third fall and win the title.

• It was Masked Stranger who made the first move, tripping King, pouncing onto his back and once again locking in the Cobra Clutch! This time, his positioning was not quite as central and the champion showed excellent ring awareness to get his foot onto the ropes and keep himself in the match.

• Stranger kept finding ways to ground King, Denny was equally adept at finding the ropes, totally powerless to escape the Cobra Clutch but hanging on by the skin of his teeth.

• With over twenty minutes gone and King beginning to tire, the champion caught the challenger with a lucky strike in a stand-up scuffle and took advantage with another face first suplex. He went for the cover, but Masked Stranger got his shoulder up at two and a half!

• The near fall seemed to give Denny King a second wind however and he heaved Masked Stranger into a sitting position atop the corner of the ring. He scaled the ropes himself, took a breath and then launched into a huge superplex! This time, Masked Stranger stayed down for the count!

• In a decent match, Denny King defeated Masked Stranger in 21:54 by two falls to one after winning the first, with the final fall happening by pinfall with a Superplex. RATING: 37

SHOW RATING: 39

Some quick notes on what my plans for the series were through 2020:

Short Term

Riley McManus to win King of the Ring and feud with Tennesee William over the Empire Title

The DiMeo family vs Brooklyn's Finest feud continuing until The Family lost a handicap match at Gang Wars, allowing Freedom Eagle to move on and challenge for singles belts.

LA Stars to split and feud when tensions arose over them becoming nearly men with the tag titles (they had bad chemistry in game so may as well split them for a fun little feud)

The Boys from the Yukon to hold the tag belts until Gang Wars, where they'd drop them to The Fighting Irish

Long Term

Zippy Deverell to continue showing up and being a nuisance before finally winning a contract vs title shot match against Brutus Milano, acting as a catalyst for BM to turn into an unstoppable rage monster heel.

Caulfield to come out of retirement to lose to heel Brutus Milano and be kayfabe permanently injured by BM during the match.

Denny King to have a year long tri-state reign eventually ended by Zippy, who is by this point hopefully over as an underdog face (I was planning on booking his search for a contract much like the Heath Ledger "I got kids" storyline in WWE)
