USPW: Don't Call it a Comeback

Very few people in this business ever leave on their own terms. You're either too old, too slow, too beat up or they call you in the office out of nowhere and tell you "we're going in a new direction". A new gotdanged direction? That's all I get after 20 years with the company?

I was mad at first, but eventually grew to accept it. Who needed all the stress? Who needed all the responsibility?... Turns out,
I did.

Everyone knows Allen Packer owns the USPW, but he doesn't have a hands on approach. He lets the booker run things, and since he's taken over he's had Danny Jillefski acting as a sort of President of Wrestling Operations. Danny's fixing to retire soon, and contacted me to see if I could be lured out of my unplanned retirement. Hell yes I could! I played it cool, but as soon as we hung up, I did a damn two step.

I started planning right away, but I wasn't aiming to rock the boat up too much. This was gonna require some finesse. Robbie Sanchez had a hell of a run as head booker and he got the book ripped from him over a whole lot of nothing. It ain't his fault that the boys got a little carried away. Paul Parsons damn sure has a nose for the business and he's done a fine job heading up creative... but you just can't have an active worker in charge of booking. It don't matter how selfless the guy is, it just doesn't work. They have a hard time seeing the big picture.

So the three of us were gonna find a way to work together. The Triumvirate was gonna make sure that USPW stayed on top.

He's a huge star at the top, Frehley and Champion are off beating each other's brains in and apart from that it's all broken down old has-beens and never was'. Things are so bad, this company actually thinks some young pup like Running Wolf is an appropriate opponent for a title match! In the middle of this sneering, Wolf's music hits and he comes to the top of the ramp and challenges Money to put his money where his mouth is. If he thinks Wolf is no threat, why don't they have it out TONIGHT! And Money can leave "The Business" backstage. I'm gonna win tonight, stay out of my way and if you screw this up for me, I. Will. Destroy. You. Got it? Partner?" He leaves a visibly shaken Trent Shafer as Raven Robinson tends to her client. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Wolf looks strong but Money is a wise veteran. He tries every trick in the book. Money is one of the best wrestlers in the world, but as the match goes on, he just can't keep up with the power and athleticism from Wolf. Things are starting to turn, when two women in t-shirts that say "Money's Honies" jump over the barrier! One climbs to the apron and distracts the referee! The other distracts Running Wolf! Money lands a Bank Roll to win the match! </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

("He's laughing all the way to the bank!" cackles Emily McQueen!) As Wolf gets to his feet, Money grabs a camera in the back and laughs "Better luck next time, pup. If you want to make it here, you need to cash in on your opportunities!" Wolf kicks the bottom rope and holds his head. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Frehley refused to tag in Shafer despite Trent's insistence but after a hot tag to Champion and some babyface fire he was forced to include his partner. Shafer came off looking good at first but he got caught in the Hawkeye Hammer and went down for the 3 count. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

Frehley took a few running steps at a staggering Shafer and nearly cut him in two with a Dark Destroyer Spear. Frehley dragged him to the corner and began to stomp a mudhole in him. Champion and Smith kind of shrugged at each other, and decided to jump in and save Shafer. They both squared off against Frehley, but the big man disposed of Smith quickly and then went to the mat with Champion as they both brawled. Referees spilled from the back to pull the men apart and Champion was hauled to the back as the show ended with both men yelling at each other</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

ANGLE (100):
For the second week in a row, Rich Money gets the honor of opening the show. He's in the room with Money's Honies and says "Since we're giving opportunities to just anyone, I'm going to issue an open challenge! If Running Wolf wants to accept, he can! All he has to do is come on out here and I'll give him a match right now!" *pause for effect* "Hmm, maybe he's licking his wounds still from last week... oh well, offer's still open!" suddenly some generic music plays and an unknown enhancement talent known as Ben Williams steps through the curtain and jogs to the ring looking like a Create a Wrestler from a videogame.

MATCH (46):
Money shrugs and accepts his challenger before beating the absolute stuffing out of Williams. From pillar to post, Money just absolutely dominates him in a 3 minute squash.

ANGLE (58):
As Money celebrates, we're taken backstage where Charlie Thatcher, Dusty Ducont and Sterling Whitlock have barricaded Running Wolf in a dressing room! Suddenly the doors bust open as Wolf uses a rolling cart loaded with heavy boxes to smash through the barricade. He fights The Business 3-1 and runs to the parking garage just in time to see Money peeling out in a Limo.

MATCH (64):
Paying off their challenge from last week, Shockwave takes on Jett and Moor! They get 10 minutes to get their shit in and they do a decent enough job. Jett and Moor win clean, but it's an even match!

ANGLE (41):
During the match, two unknowns who look like wrestlers are shown at ringside. When the bell rings, they climb over the barricade and grab a mic. They introduce themselves as as a tag team called "Rich and Famous" and their names are Jackpot Jordan and Jake Idol! They claim that Jett and Moor are placeholders until some *real* competition comes along, and now it has. From the top of the ramp, the newly re-formed Supreme Dream Team interrupts. If these new young pups think they've got what it takes to compete in the USPW, why don't they face SDT in a match next week?

MATCH (59):
Zeus and Roger Cage have a singles match, as teased last week. Zeus is bigger and stronger than Cage so he has the advantage, but Cage is a smart babyface who's got heart in spades. He turns the tide of the match and looks to be winning when Zeus pulls the ref in front of him, causing Cage to back off. With the ref distracted Bash Street attempts to clock him with a foreign object! Cage avoids the blow, captures the foreign object and uses it to clock Zeus! The ref catches this and calls for the bell as Zeus takes a powdering and is escorted to the back by the rest of the Olympic order. Zeus is announced as winner by DQ as the trio celebrate and menace Cage!

ANGLE (52):
The Triumvirate comes out and Alicia Strong has a microphone. She calls out Pariah. "Poor, poor little Angie. She really is a Pariah. No friends. Just a backstabbing loser who no one likes!" facing this abuse Pariah comes to the top of the ramp. "Oh, look who decided to show up, but it's three against one, babe. Not that you would have a chance anyway, but if you even had two friends... just two people in that locker room who didn't hate your guts, maybe, just maybe we could have a 6 woman match... but, ha, we all know that's not going to happen!" The crowd starts chanting for the former FBI agent when Missy Masterson and Melody come out from the back! The each put a hand on Pariah's shoulder and seem to agree to partner with her tonight and they run to the ring!"

MATCH (58):
Pariah wants Strong, but Alicia sends in the heavies! The match seems even until late when Stong reluctantly comes in and faces Pariah one on one. The two women beat each other down, and Strong gets the upper hand and then tags in Juliette King. Pariah is overpowered but gets some babyface fire and lands her finish! She gets the pin as her new partners hold off a breakup attempt!

ANGLE (75):
Pariah walks backstage by herself and is cheap shotted by Jaime Quine! Quine mocks her for taking her eyes off the prize. "I thought you FBI types were supposed to be smart and tough! You're in my world now and you better keep both eyes open!" Quine beats on Pariah before being pulled away by security guards.

MATCH (65):
Enygma faces Mick Muscles in a singles match. They actually have really good chemistry! Enygma ends up getting the win in the kind of win Enygma has been getting for his whole career in USPW, outsmarting and wearing down a big monster heel.

ANGLE (85):
After the match, Joss Thompson returns the favor. He sneaks into the ring and assaults Enygma! He's got the upper hand, he's going to land a clean cutter when the lights suddenly go out! When they come back on, Enygma is gone and Thompson kicks the bottom rope.

MATCH (66):
In this secondary main event, Steve Frehley takes on Brandon Bulldozer Smith one on one. The Dark Destroyer clearly isn't taking his challenger seriously, and it backfires as Smith fires up and gets a near fall on the former champ. Frehley gets hot and starts fighting Smith like he's a serious threat. He lands a Frehley's Comet and it's all... NO! Smith kicks out at 2! He gets back up and Frehley, with a look of begrudging respect hits a second Frehley's comet and this one puts Smith down for the count.

ANGLE (81):
Smith struggles to his feet as Frehley looks at him with detached curiosity. Smith sells the damage he's taken, and manages to climb out of the ring... but instead of going to the back he grabs a folding chair and sits in the corner by the barricade. Frehley gives a brief, curt, nod and climbs out and leans on the opposite barricade corner.

MATCH (84):
Nicky Champion squares off against Trent Shafer in the final bout of the evening! It's a good match, with Shafer doing all the normal heel tricks to try and win, but he neglected to bring a chunk of Kryptonite with him so there's just no way he can beat Nicky Champion. Nicky hits the Hawkeye Hammer and gets a decisive win.

ANGLE (85):
Nicky and Frehley exchange some words. It's not picked up by the mics. Nicky says "That's how it's done!" Frehley takes exception and says "We'll see what happens when you get a real opponent". "Why wait?"and it's on. Frehley and Champion square off and it looks like it's gonna be trouble. Bulldozer looks like he's about to hobble up and defuse things, but Trent Shafer has recovered and blasts him in the ribs with a kick, compounding the pain from the Comet he took earlier. He runs off, pleased with himself as Frehley and Champion have a stare down. **CHAMPION DEBUTS A HOT NEW CATCHPHRASE!**

If you give me any less than 100%, if you turn your back, if you don't sleep with one eye open... I'll break you in half. I'll destroy you. Every time Enygma gets in trouble he just disappears! Like all the so called "legends" in this company, they just disappear! But there's gonna be no place to hide tonight, and after Joss beats Enygma tonight, he's gonna thrash him in front of the whole world on Stars, Stripes and Slams!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

The psychology is such that Enygma maintains leverage early on, but as the match goes on, he runs out of steam. Thompson can go the distance and flips the script, but Enygma catches him with an Enygmaguri and puts Thompson down for a pin. Joss does a Hogan kickout and Emily McQueen notes "his foot was under the ropes!!!" but the ref raises Enygma's hand in victory! Thompson gets in his face, this is a travesty!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

It's a solid, but unspectacular match. There's lots of spots to interest people in the singles matches for the upcoming PPV. In a surprise, Zeus ends up landing his finish on Cage and pinning him for the 3 count!</div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

"Real cute, Nick... helping your little buddy out like that and getting him a match. But isn't there something else you should be focusing on? I'm gonna tear you in half, boy. You ain't ready. You ain't serious... You. Ain't. Nothin. Next time we face off, one on one... I'm gonna hurt you." Champion slaps the mic out of his hand and the two have an epic staredown as the show fades to black. </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div></div></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;"><div style="margin-left:25px;">

ANGLE (99):
Lionel Greenwood is shown backstage with Nicky Champion for an interview. Champion, looking like a million dollars, angrily debates the claim that he's underestimating Steve Frehley. Champion has been top dog in the USPW for a long time. 6 World Championships, countless main events, he built this company and he's gonna be here for life. Frehley is just playing the same weak mindgames he always does. The Dark Destroyer is in for the fight of his life!

MATCH (57):
Rick Law gets a match with T-Rex. He hasn't been around much lately, but he manages to easily put away the big man.

ANGLE (77):
Gemmel joins Rick for a brief talk with Lionel Greenwood. Law is frustrated. He's done everything the company has asked him to do. He's been a positive influence and the opportunities just don't seem to be there. He's upset about not having a match for Stars, Stripes and Slams but all he can do is put his head down and keep working hard.

MATCH (51):
A new tag team, The Rock City Stars debut against Shockwave and pull off the huge upset!

MATCH (63):
Zeus has a warm up match with Andre Jones. Jones is a good hand, but no one expects him to win, and he doesn't.

ANGLE (51):
Zeus grabs a mic "Four more days... Roger Cage has FOUR MORE DAYS as USPW National Champion." He continues cutting a promo on Roger Cage and how the Olympus Order will rise.

MATCH (67):
Jaime Quine and Jillian Jarvis take on Melody and Pariah. The match was put together to highlight Jarvis and Pariah's coming bout and the psychology revolved around both partnerships being extremely uneasy. In the end Quine pins Melody. Neither team worked smoothly and Quine's striking ability shined through.

ANGLE (74):
Alicia Strong and the Triumvirate shows up. Pathetic. These two upstarts are fighting to be the #1 Contender for the USPW Women's Title? All while the Queen of USPW is right here? It's true, she doesn't need the belt to be a star, but it's hers and she's taking it from whoever's the champion after Stars, Stripes and Slams!

MATCH (71):
Enygma faces off against Kirk Jameson. The young up and comer looks strong, but Enygma is a wily old vet and looks to be easily putting him away, when Joss Thompson runs in!

ANGLE (83):
Enygma picks up a DQ win but it's cold comfort as he's assaulted by Joss. Things look dire, when the lights go out, flash on in teal, go off again and turn normal. Thompson kicks the bottom rope and mugs for the camera! Enygma is a sneaky little coward and there'll be nowhere to run on Sunday!

MATCH (76):
Joss Thompson is still fired up, but he's got a match against Casey Valentine! The two men put on a fine match and there's some psychology revolving around Thompson looking over his shoulder for Enygma, but he never comes. Thompson wins and celebrates.

MATCH (78):
The big go home match is Bulldozer Smith, Running Wolf and Nicky Champion versus Trent Shafer, Rich Money and Steve Frehley. It does a great job of showing everyone off and setting up the three singles matches going on for the PPV. Smith ends up with the pin on Shafer!

ANGLE (86):
After the match things devolve. Money taunts Wolf which leads to an altercation. Shafer recovers enough to low blow Bulldozer and take him down. Champion goes to break up Wolf and Money when all of a sudden he's hoisted up for a Comet and he's slammed hard to the mat. Frehley laughs about keeping one eye open and the show ends in chaos!
