d12345
I think workers who go on hiatus due to burn out or to get into politics should give you notice of at least 7 days. Realistically speaking no one decides to go on hiatus, with no notice, 5 days before they are booked for a big money match at a big event. They do the match and then take off after. Currently we get no opportunity to 'write these guys off of TV' in a realistic manner. Jesse Ventura and Kane didn't just disappear Wrestlemania week to get into politics. Even angry CM Punk did a job before leaving WWE due to burn out. It's not the end of the world as the system currently stands, but I think it could do with a tweak. Zero
It should be random as well. Austin left with 1hr notice. Maybe base it on personality.

I think it was more because there were no other large enough promotions at the time to sign with he was just sitting around on hiatus.

If WCW was still around at that time and competing Austin probably would've signed there after his walkout.

Realistically speaking no one decides to go on hiatus, with no notice, 5 days before they are booked for a big money match at a big event. They do the match and then take off after. . Dennis Condrey. And he did it twice, btw. Loads of guys left territories unannounced regardless of upcoming payday based on burnout. It wasn't unheard of at all, and is quite realistic. Tie it to personality and current mood. As an aside: If WCW was still around at that time and competing Austin probably would've signed there after his walkout. Very unlikely he could've done that. He walked out in the middle of a contract. The contract was still in effect. And Vince was known to tie in temporary "no compete" clauses in there in some cases as well either way. goldendragon
Kylie Rae has suddenly "retired" twice as well. I'd say the majority of hiatus periods should start after the worker has served some notice, but as personalities are already in the game certain types of worker should just walk with no warning.
