ROH 2010: With Glory Comes Honor

Recommended Posts

4Xr8TbM.jpg

With a roster packed full of talent destined to become the stars of tomorrow, Ring of Honor moved into the new decade with all the potential for growth they could hope for. Austin Aries currently sits atop the proverbial mountain as holder of the prestigious ROH World Heavyweight Championship. In saying that, coming off of a 60 minute marathon match that ended in a draw against Tyler Black at Final Battle 2009 his reign as the top dog looks like it could be in jeopardy. Elsewhere on the roster are the likes of Kevin Steen and El Generico, who's relationship took quite the (mind the pun) 'bump' at Final Battle when Steen turned on his long time tag team partner and friend. Fans who have been watching ROH for awhile will of course also be very familiar with Roderick Strong who seems to find himself perpetually toiling just beneath the companies elite, and will most certainly looking to make waves this coming year.

It seems like this might end up being a make or break year for the 8 year old company who just last year signed a weekly television deal with HDNet. Can they use the abundance of talent at their disposal and their recently granted tv time to catapult them to the next level, or will they simply function as the feeder organization that continues to fall victim to the money and prestige of bigger federations like WWE and TNA.

There's only one way to find out...

Attendance: 300

The show opens with a vignette letting us know Jim Cornette will have an important announcement later tonight.

f1n0h3O.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1D9C6OdO.jpg?1

Chris Hero vs. Rasche Brown

The in ring action for the night kicks off with a one on one match where Chris Hero will look to bounce back after taking a tough loss in a Fight Without Honor against Eddie Kingston at Final Battle.

Hero takes control of this one early and despite Brown getting in a bit of offense, the outcome never seems in doubt. Hero puts his opponent away easily after a massive discuss elbow.

Winner by pinfall: Chris Hero

f1n0h3O.jpg?1

After the match ends Hero grabs a microphone to share some thoughts regarding his loss at Final Battle. He claims he should go down as the winner of the match considering Kingston could barely manage to get out of the ring afterwards. He says regardless of the outcome, he left the match looking better than Eddie, and that's all that matters to him.

I3eHdaH.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1LGrU3Rl.jpg?1

Sonjay Dutt vs. Rocky Romero

A much more competitive affair than the opening contest, this match saw Dutt and Romero display a solid blend of submission holds and grappling while working in some high flying moments to get the crowd excited. Eventually Dutt was able to put Romero down after locking in the camel clutch and making him tap.

Winner by submission: Sonjay Dutt

eRjCSXf.jpg

Following the match a video is aired replaying Kevin Steen's brutal attack on El Generico at Final Battle. Dave Prazak has informed us El Generico was not fit to travel and will not be in attendance tonight. They have tried to set up an interview with Steen, but he has declined to comment on his actions.

The All-Night Express vs. The Young Bucks

The Young Bucks have all the momentum on their side coming off of a big win against Steen and Generico and it's clear from the offset of this one just how fired up they are. Kenny King is able to grab control of the match following a hot tag midway through, but The Bucks avoid any upset after super kicking Rhett Titus off the ring apron and hitting More Bang For Your Buck on King for the 3 count.

Winner by pinfall: The Young Bucks

Ahead of the main event for tonight Jim Cornette makes his way to the ring for what he has referred to as a very important announcement.

Cornette says the first thing he needs to do is apologize on behalf of all of Ring of Honor for Final Battle's main event. Austin Aries running from Tyler Black for the better part of 60 minutes was not the expected outcome of the match. He criticizes Aries behavior and says it’s only right to the ROH fans that there’s a rematch held. Therefore, at Ring of Honors 8th Anniversary Show, Austin Aries will defend his title again against Tyler Black. However this time, to stop Aries from avoiding Black, Cornette announces a draw will result in Aries having to forfeit the title.

As the fans cheer, Cornette adds that he has more to announce.

In a decision made by those who Cornette refers to as being 'above him,' he was instructed to cancel the Pick 6 World Championship qualifier system, as it was deemed to be overly complicated and 'unnecessary.' Cornette shares his disappointment over the decision, but promises the fans he has something in mind that he feels will make up for it.

RrrUyOm.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1bp7xSdl.jpg?1

Eddie Kingston vs. PAC

Ring of Honor fans may be somewhat familiar with PAC, who has featured for the company previously on some shows over in the UK, and has found a fair bit of success in other promotions. He started this one fired up, clearly looking to establish himself as a big deal within the company. Eddie Kingston fought back hard throughout, but his lingering injuries from Final Battle weighed on him far too much for him to gather any consistent form of offense. It felt like every time Kingston was able to chain a few big moves together, Pac would go back to targeting Eddie's back. Despite this, Kingston was able to squeak out a victory after rolling out of the way of a Red Arrow and landing the BLKOUT Lariat for the pin.

Winner by pinfall: Eddie Kingston

eRjCSXf.jpg

The crowd gives the two competitors a great reception after the match, applauding the effort put forth. PAC is basking in the moment when suddenly two men come charging down the ramp towards the ring...

f1n0h3O.jpg?1RTfD4OK.jpg?1

It's Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli, The Kings of Wrestling!

The pair run right by PAC and make their way towards Eddie Kingston. Kingston tries to get out of the ring but before he can do so he is grabbed. The pair lay into him with vicious strikes. Eventually Claudio grabs him and holds him still while Hero sets up to take his head off with a big discuss elbow. PAC has seen enough and comes to Kingston's rescue before the elbow can connect, driving the attackers away with a series of hard hitting chops and kicks.

The show ends with The Kings of Wrestling retreating up the ramp while PAC checks on Kingston in the ring.

#43

Attendance: 300

Just like last week, we are kicking things off with a pre-taped promo. This time it's #1 contender Tyler Black with some words for the current champ.

Evxju4q.jpg?1

Tyler Black is fired up as he hypes his rematch with Austin Aries. He tells Aries he can run and hide all he wants this time, because it doesn't matter to him whether he takes the title directly from him, or if he has to win it once it's vacated. All he knows is that the next name going down in the record books as Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Champion will be Tyler Black.

eRjCSXf.jpg

m5g5lxI.jpg?1LGrU3Rl.jpg?1

Jack Evans vs. Rocky Romero

Evans last appearance for Ring of Honor came at Final Battle against Teddy Hart, in an impromptu 1vs1 match after their initial match got delayed due to a snowstorm. With that in mind, it's fair to say Evans feels he has something to prove and is not just looking to reap the benefits of his legacy of past successes within the company.

The match tells the classic tale of high flying face vs. savvy, technical heel. Romero looks to work the legs of Evans and keep him from hitting the top rope for his finish, while Evans tries his hardest to land his signature high impact offense. Evans is able to emerge victorious after he takes Romero down and finishes him off with a 630 senton.

Winner by pinfall: Jack Evans

f1n0h3O.jpg?1RTfD4OK.jpg?1

The Kings of Wrestling make their way to the ring and grab a microphone to address their recent issues with PAC & Eddie Kingston ahead of their match with The American Wolves tonight.

Hero says that he considered things with Kingston to be wrapped up. But when he saw fans cheering for him two weeks ago against PAC it made him sick. He says Kingston is not welcome in ROH. He adds that while he and Claudio are the KINGS of professional wrestling, Eddie Kingston is a 'thugged up street fighter' at best.

Castagnoli grabs the microphone and adds that he and Hero will prove all of this, when they face off against Kingston & PAC in a tag team match next week at SoCal Showdown.

gGW07i3.jpg?102JgK3I.jpg?1

The American Wolves head to the ring, mics in hand. They tell Hero & Castagnoli that maybe they should focus on tonight's match before they look ahead to SoCal Showdown. Eddie Edwards adds that after they beat The Kings of Wrestling tonight, it will be The Wolves looking ahead to SoCal Showdown, where they are going to take back their tag team titles.

eRjCSXf.jpg

gGW07i3.jpg?102JgK3I.jpg?1f1n0h3O.jpg?1RTfD4OK.jpg?1

The American Wolves vs. The Kings of Wrestling

This is the kind of match that could just as easily be found high on the card on a PPV event. Both teams will be featured on ROH's next PPV, of course. But this match will serve as more of a warm up as both sides look for momentum rolling into next Friday.

Hero & Castagnoli control the majority of this match as they focus on cutting the ring in half and utilizing quick tags. They look primed and ready for a victory, until the upset comes when Castagnoli looks for the Alpamere Wasterslide but Richards is able to slide off of his back and rolls him up for the win.

Winner by pinfall: The American Wolves

eRjCSXf.jpg

1N9RiI8.jpg?1

As we return from break Delirious is backstage nervously talking to Daizee Haze. Of course what he is trying to say is impossible to understand through the mumbling and the gibberish, but it seems like it might be something along the lines of telling Daizee he is going to beat Sonjay Dutt for her at SoCal Showdown. Daizee touches Delirious' arm which makes him even giddier but they're quickly interrupted.

I3eHdaH.jpg?1

Sonjay Dutt runs into view and immediately starts beating on Delirious. He lands some big shots to the face before throwing him into the wall and kicking him in the back. Daizee Haze screams for help but by the time anyone arrives the damage is done. Dutt laughs as he's pushed away, and promises there's more of that to come next Friday.

Adam Pearce vs. Kenny Omega

Adam Pearce has adopted more of a backstage position lately and therefore hasn't found himself between the ropes on TV very often. Tonight, however, he steps in opposite of Kenny Omega who is looking to regain the kind of momentum he had going back in late 2009 which saw him get multiple shots at Austin Aries' world title.

It seems Pearce is struggling with the ring rust quite a bit as this one kicks off. He manages to hang around for a little bit, but eventually Omega catches him with the V-Trigger, and the Aoi Shoudou follows shortly after for the win.

Winner by pinfall: Kenny Omega

eRjCSXf.jpg

As the match ends, we head backstage where Colt Cabana is taking a phone call.

lYz8hP7.jpg?1

After just a few words it becomes clear who he's talking to on the other end...

2u5Ypw4.jpg?1

We can't hear anything Generico is saying, but the conversation can be understood through Cabana's echoing.

"I don't know what is wrong with Kevin either, he won't even talk to me. I keep trying to get it out of him but he just pushes by. It's like the lights are on but nobodies home..."

"So you'll be back next Friday? Okay, I'll see you there."

The crowd pops at the news that El Generico will be returning at SoCal Showdown!

Tyler Black & Roderick Strong vs. Austin Aries & Kenny King (w/Rhett Titus)

The main event of the evening pits challenger versus champion in a tag team showdown ahead of their rematch next Friday. Black wants to start in the ring opposite of Aries, but as soon as he gets in, Aries hops out. They play the game for a few minutes, with Aries tagging out every time Black tags in, but eventually Black concedes and the match starts with Strong against Aries.

As you would expect with those two in the ring, a tremendous display of chain wrestling plays out, both men looking to work the limbs of their opponent early with stiff holds. This play out until Black is tagged in, but the moment he enters, Aries rolls under the bottom rope to the floor. He waits for Black to make the move and chase after him, which allows him to slide back into the ring and tag King in.

The pace picks up and King takes control of things but the momentum turns when Black is able to send him flying over the ropes and follows it up with a suicide dive that connects with King, Aries, and Rhett Titus.

King eventually finds the opportunity to tag out, and Aries and Black are finally in the ring together. Aries comes flying at Black from the top rope but Black catches him with a kick to the mid section. He hoists the champion up for a buckle bomb, this could be it!

As Black's momentum takes him backwards momentarily, Strong tags himself in. Black tosses Aries back first into the corner and Todd Sinclair lets him know a tag was made. Strong enters but Black is furious.

Strong makes his way over to a downed Aries, he hits the ropes and connects with the Sick Kick before locking in the Strong Hold. Unfortunately for Aries with King downed outside of the ring, and Titus checking him on, he has nobody to save him.

Winner by submission: Tyler Black & Roderick Strong

eRjCSXf.jpg

GFgGtAH.jpg?1Evxju4q.jpg?1

Black enters the ring and meets Strong with a hard shove. He's absolutely furious over Strong taking the win. With a smug grin on his face, Strong asks for a microphone.

He says as far as he's concerned, he is the one who just beat the Ring of Honor World Champion. He made Austin Aries tap out. Strong says if Black gets a rematch just because he didn't lose to Aries, then making him tap should give Strong a title shot too.

Black looks ready to snap, nostrils flaring and gritting his teeth. If it wasn't for Jim Cornette quickly joining the two in the ring, a brawl would've been imminent.

H5KljGp.jpg?1

To the surprise of many, Cornette grabs a microphone and agrees with Strong. He says as part of the Pick 6 series going away, it's important that they reward big wins in Ring of Honor. But he isn't just going to give Roderick a title shot, especially not with Black vs. Aries already booked. What he will do, however, is allow Strong to earn his place within the title match at ROH's 8th Anniversary Show next month.

Black objects, but to no avail. Strong looks pleased.

Cornette continues on, telling Strong all he will need to do in order to make the title match next month a three way, is beat Austin Aries in a non title match at SoCal Showdown!

The show ends with the crowd cheering while Strong signals that next month he will be wearing gold around his waist.

This is off to a great start Rampaaage. 2010 era ROH is a time I remember well and I'm highly interested in seeing where you take the promotion with all of that great talent you've got to work with. Keep bringing the goodness!

Thanks so much! Really appreciate it. I still find it crazy in retrospect when I remember just how much talent they had on the roster at the time. Fingers crossed that unlike irl, I can keep the talent here!

SoCal Showdown!

Attendance: 423

The show opens with Dave Prazak and Mike Hogewood at the announce desk, they welcome everyone to SoCal Showdown and go through the match card for the night.

The opening contest is the grudge match between Sonjay Dutt and Delirious. Before it kicks off we see a video highlighting the bizarre feud that has built mostly around Dutt's inappropriate behavior towards Daizee Haze.

I3eHdaH.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?11N9RiI8.jpg?1

Sonjay Dutt vs. Delirious

It's a technical affair, but a brutal one. Both men seem more interested in inflicting pain than actually winning. Submission holds are ever present but both men become more and more aggressive as the match goes on. The finish occurs when Dutt is able to dodge out of the way when Delirious comes flying in from the top rope and he locks in the camel clutch. While initially Delirious refuses to submit, Todd Sinclair has no choice but to call for the bell after the masked man passes out.

Winner by submission: Sonjay Dutt

Dutt blows a big kiss in the direction of Daizee as he heads to back, she is clearly not pleased.

m5g5lxI.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1rndIW4W.jpg?1

Jack Evans vs. KENTA

This is KENTA's first match in ROH since last April when he teamed up with Tyler Black. He faces off against Jack Evans who is looking to continue building momentum in singles competition. Unfortunately for Evans, KENTA is as determined as ever. He leaves Evans’ chest blood red with repeated kicks and chops to the sternum. Evans has a few moments of control, but ultimately it doesn't amount to much and KENTA picks up the win with a Go 2 Sleep.

Winner by pinfall: KENTA

eRjCSXf.jpg

Following the match we get a pre-taped promo from PAC & Eddie Kingston.

bp7xSdl.jpg?1RrrUyOm.jpg?1

Eddie Kingston brings up what happened last time he met Chris Hero in the middle of the ring. He warns Hero and tells him he'll be having flashbacks tonight when Kingston connects with the BLKOUT and ends this once and for all.

PAC tells them they are going to regret getting him involved in this, because he came to ROH to make a name for himself. And he doesn't care who he has to go through to get what he wants.

f1n0h3O.jpg?1RTfD4OK.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1bp7xSdl.jpg?1RrrUyOm.jpg?1

The Kings of Wrestling vs. PAC & Eddie Kingston

There's some bad blood involved in this one, and it's immediately shown when Hero & Kingston start in the ring for their respective teams. It's a Kings of Wrestling dominated affair, with Eddie on the receiving end of the brunt of the offense. He fires back late in the match, mounting a fair bit of offense and tagging in the much fresher PAC. PAC fairs rather well, countering the strength of the Kings with his speed and agility. Unfortunately for him, a huge european uppercut from Castagnoli takes him out of the air late in the match, and he never recovers. He's able to just barely get to the corner to tag in Kingston, but shortly after the Kings of Wrestling take the win after landing the K.R.S. O.N.E.

Winner by pinfall: The Kings of Wrestling

eRjCSXf.jpg

We are told that up next we will find out who the returning ROH star that Jim Cornette has been alluding to is.

S1sXiQG.jpg?1

It's Jay Lethal! He hasn't been seen in Ring of Honor for nearly 4 years now! Lethal tells the fans he's beyond excited to be back, but now isn't the time for talk. He has a match to win!

S1sXiQG.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1tEYXqJI.jpg?1

Jay Lethal vs. Rhett Titus

The crowd is amped for this one, and rightfully so! Titus runs the early part of the match, but Lethal is in top form and it doesn't take long for him to get rolling. He hits all the signature offense, the Lethal Injection, Lethal Combination and even the Randy Savage inspired elbow drop from the top rope. He comfortably secures a 'welcome back' win.

Winner by pinfall: Jay Lethal

eRjCSXf.jpg

Once Lethal disappears through the back, El Generico & Colt Cabana make their way out to the ring.

2u5Ypw4.jpg?1lYz8hP7.jpg?1

Bandaged up and walking with a limp, it's clear Generico is still feeling the beatdown from Steen. Cabana speaks for him and says with all of the time off they have had a lot of opportunity to reflect on the events that took place. Generico hoped to confront his former best friend tonight, but of course he isn't in attendance. El Generico promises the fans he will get answers from Kevin even if he has to beat them out of him. Cabana reveals Generico will still need some time to heal, but whether it's next week, next month, or next year, he vows that he will stand in the ring with Kevin Steen and deal with this.

Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship Match

ti3ZYJk.png

The Briscoes © vs. The Young Bucks vs. The American Wolves

There's a lot of tag team experience in this one, and it's on display throughout, with each team getting their opportunity to showcase their teamwork. This played out a lot more like a brawl than a technical affair, with many a super kick, piledriver, and high risk maneuvers following. After hard hitting action within the ring, things spill to the outside, with a series of aerial moves and suicide dives to follow. In the end, Jay Briscoe and Eddie Edwards were the only men left standing in the ring. The finish came when Briscoe avoided the Die Hard Driver and planted Edwards with the J-Driller.

Winner by pinfall: The Briscoes

As the Briscoes are celebrating their successful title defense in the ring, they are greeted by the same pair that attacked them last month at Final Battle.

f1n0h3O.jpg?1RTfD4OK.jpg?1

It's The Kings of Wrestling and after their big win earlier tonight, it looks like their eyes are set on the gold that the Briscoes currently hold. The two teams stare one another down, before Mark & Jay lift their belts high over their heads, and make an exit.

eRjCSXf.jpg

Ahead of the main event Tyler Black makes his way to the ring and sets up a chair next to the commentary table so that he can keep a close eye on the main event.

GFgGtAH.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1rbhqwJb.jpg?1

Roderick Strong vs. Austin Aries

Despite this being a non title affair, Aries insists he be introduced in ring before the match starts. His arrogance immediately draws the ire of the crowd. The match starts out similarly to Black vs. Aries in that there is no desperation to get in the ring from the champ's side. He is constantly looking to roll out of the ring and avoid Strong. Eventually Strong is fed up enough that he chases Aries and follows him to ringside. Unfortunately for Strong that's exactly what Aries wanted. He takes control of the match swiftly by sending Strong into the barricade, and then into every other structure he can find afterwards.

As the match plays out, Aries looks to secure the win in any way possible. Count out, roll up by pulling the tights, anything you can think of, he goes for. He even tries to have Strong DQ himself by bringing the title belt into the ring and sliding it across the mat while urging Roderick to hit him with it.

Strong tries to stay focused and in typical Roderick Strong fashion works Aries' back throughout the match, with hopes of finishing things off with the Strong Hold. Late in the match the Death by Roderick nets him a near 3, and A Double quickly returns the favor with his signature brainbuster for what must've been 2.9.

The end sequence occurs when Strong charges for a Sick Kick that Aries slides out of the way of and grabs Strong by the leg to trip him. With Strong on the mat, Aries locks in the Last Chancery and after what seems like a full minute of agonizing pain, Strong has no choice but to tap.

Winner by submission: Austin Aries

As Kenny King & Rhett Titus rush to the ring to hoist Aries onto their shoulders and celebrate, so too does Tyler Black enter. Black points at the belt around Aries shoulder, and then at himself.

The show finishes as the two men who will do battle 2 weeks from tonight stare daggers into one another from across the ring.

We are headed right into the action for this one, with Kevin Steen already waiting in the ring for his match.

F7Me8nG.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1buvfzRU.jpg?1

Kevin Steen vs. Jimmy Jacobs

There's a huge pop for the returning Jimmy Jacobs who last appeared for Ring of Honor over 6 months ago. He is fired up and ready to go but unfortunately for him he's up against a freight train in Kevin Steen. While Jacobs tries to work the crowd before the match starts, enjoying the chants and the cheers, Steen wastes no time. From the jump he punishes Jacobs with the same sort of attitude and approach we have become used to seeing since Final Battle. Clobbering forearms leave Jacobs down in a heap early, and Steen takes enjoyment in slowly inflicting more and more punishment. Jacobs fights back valiantly, and the momentum swings back into his direction. He catches Steen with a cutter which buys him some space, and follows up with an underhook facebuster for a 2 count. As Steen gets back to his feet, Jacobs meets him by locking in the End Time. Everyone knows Steen won't tap, but as it's locked in deeper, it's apparent he may just pass out. That is until Steen showcases his power by countering with a massive spinebuster and then putting his opponent away with a package piledriver.

Winner by pinfall: Kevin Steen

Steen once again doesn't celebrate his win, he simply leaves the ring and heads to the back. Jimmy Jacobs is still in the ring and just getting to his feet when the lights go out in the arena.

As the lights return, Jacobs is surrounded by 3 men in robes.

UVJ2ZL3.png?1UVJ2ZL3.png?1UVJ2ZL3.png?1

Jacobs looks around, searching desperately to find a way to escape. He quickly realizes there's nowhere for him to go, and tries his hardest to fight the mysterious men off. It's of no use though, and within a few moments Jacobs is left in a pile on the ground. Two of the men lift him up, while the third sets up and delivers a jaw shattering discus lariat. With Jacobs down and out, the three men lift him up and carry him out the back.

f1n0h3O.jpg?1RTfD4OK.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1mJJl5px.jpg?12MEsk4M.jpg?1

The Kings of Wrestling vs. Cheech & Cloudy

As The Kings of Wrestling make their entrance, we are given confirmation from Hogewood and Prazak at the announcers desk that they will be getting a title match against the Briscoes at ROH's 8th Anniversary Show in 2 weeks.

As you would expect in a match-up like this, Cheech & Cloudy are on the receiving end of a harsh beatdown. Castagnoli & Hero savor their victory, taking every minute they can to show just how good they are. There's plenty of cockiness and showboating throughout, until they decide to wrap it up with the K.R.S O.N.E.

Winners by pinfall: The Kings of Wrestling

eRjCSXf.jpg

As the match ends, in atypical ROH fashion a pre-taped segment is shown where Colt Cabana is seen standing outside of the locker room.

lYz8hP7.jpg?1F7Me8nG.jpg?1

Cabana pleads with Kevin Steen to come talk. He tells Kevin he isn't looking to take sides in this, he knows Generico is upset, but all anyone really wants right now is a honest explanation for why he did what he did. There's no reply, and Cabana tries to open the door but it's locked. He starts getting fed up, but just on cue Kevin Steen unlocks the door and swings it open. He looks at Cabana, nods is head, and pushes past him without saying so much as a single word.

xyVpsII.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1I3eHdaH.jpg?1

Kenny Omega vs. Sonjay Dutt

Sonjay Dutt has done a great job of building up some momentum over the last little while, and that makes this a huge match for both competitors. For Dutt, it's a chance to secure a victory over a former world champion contender and continue his surge to the top of the card, whilst for Omega a win here would do wonders in getting him back on track.

The desperation from both sides is abundantly clear in this one, as the competitors throw everything in their arsenal at one another in order to try and emerge victorious. A corkscrew 450 almost nets Dutt the win late in this one, but Omega just barely manages to get his shoulder up in time. Dutt then goes for camel clutch, but again just by a matter of inches Omega stays alive by grabbing onto the bottom rope to break the hold. The turning point comes shortly after, when Dutt starts to lose his cool and is too focused on screaming at Todd Sinclair to see Omega charging, as he runs up and lands a nasty V-Trigger right on the chin. The Aoi Shoudou follows and Omega steals the win.

Winner by pinfall: Kenny Omega

eRjCSXf.jpg

Next we head to the back where we're greeted by the returning Becky Bayless who is back in Ring of Honor, debuting in her new full time position as interviewer.

Evxju4q.jpg?1UphicZk.jpg?1

Bayless asks Tyler Black for his thoughts on last nights match between Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. Black says he was impressed with both men, Aries in particular because it seemed like lately he hasn't had any interest in actually wrestling. He says that while Strong put up a great fight, maybe he just isn't championship material. He finishes off by sarcastically inviting Roderick to ringside for his title match at the 8th Anniversary Show to take notes on winning big matches. With that he heads out towards the ring because he's in action next taking on Mark Briscoe.

Evxju4q.jpg?1zdboFS9.png?1Foutdyq.jpg?1

Tyler Black vs. Mark Briscoe

This is a great match between two men well established within Ring of Honor. While we've seen a lot more from Mark Briscoe over the years as one half of a tag team with his brother, there's no doubt he can carry his own in singles competition as well. Tyler Black learns that the hard way as he starts the match off on the receiving end of a beatdown courtesy of Briscoe. The momentum swings back in Black's favor when he's able to hit the ropes as Mark heads to the top, and follow it up by planting a kick right on the bridge of his opponents nose, which sends Briscoe tumbling out of the ring. This is exactly the opening Black needs, and he ups the pace immediately with a suicide dive before bringing Briscoe back into the ring. The two proceed to exchange high impact aerial moves, with Mark rolling out of the way of a phoenix splash and Black getting his knees up ahead of the Froggy Bow. The finish comes shortly after when Black is able to catch Briscoe with a huge super kick and follows it up with God's Last Gift for the victory.

Winner by pinfall: Tyler Black

eRjCSXf.jpg

As the match finishes, Black and Briscoe share a handshake before the tag team champ retreats to the back while Tyler is left celebrating a hard earned win in the ring. As soon as Briscoe is out of sight, Austin Aries and The All Night Express hit the ring.

rbhqwJb.jpg?1ywK1u2c.jpg?1tEYXqJI.jpg?1

The trio tears into Black, hitting him with a flurry of punches and kicks before Aries rolls out of the ring and grabs a steel chair. As he is setting it up around Black's ankle, out comes the cavalry.

GFgGtAH.jpg?1

It's Roderick Strong! Steel chair in hand... but Strong doesn't head towards the ring. Instead, he sets the chair up on the ramp and sits down down. Pretending to take notes on the assault taking place in an imaginary note pad.

Luckily for Black, the actual help is following closely behind.

JSRgFql.jpg?1Foutdyq.jpg?1

The Briscoes hurry out and just like always, they're ready to go to war. Aries & his proteges quickly make their retreat, as they were never looking for a fair fight. Jay helps the #1 contender to his feet while Mark swings a chair in Aries' direction and shouts like a mad man. It's very clear this one isn't over.

The show ends as we see Roderick Strong get up from his chair and head towards the back. He sarcastically gives a thumbs up to Tyler Black on his way out.
