BCG The Survivor 2020 Press Conference Highlights

cYfgzBn.jpgJhL4sFe.jpgdUXaEHG.jpg

~ Black Canvas shocked the world of puroresu with the announcement that they have acquired Pro Wrestling SAISHO, which they will be keeping around as a place for their younger talent and dojo graduates to gain experience before being utilized on their own shows. During the press conference, a new SAISHO logo with a distinctively black tint was revealed, but there were no specific mentions of talent moving between the two companies. When asked, officials stated that several wrestlers will be making appearances for both companies as needed, thus there is no sense in announcing names and tying them to either company would not make any sense. What has been announced however was The Diamond Dogs, Jimmy Stratosphere and Motty Kuroda, joining Okamoto-gun.

~ The Survivor trophy was also presented, with the names of the four participants announced for the upcoming four corners elimination match to claim it. With Mabuchi Furusawa now holding the BCG World title, there will be no members of his faction wrestling in that match, as the winner will go on to face him for the title at The Lion's Roar in October. Likewise, since Funakoshi just lost the belt, the decision has been made for Seven Samurai to be represented by his second in command, Blast Ikoma. Bunrakuken Torii will be given a chance to take Dawnguard into the spotlight if he wins and it's a similar story for Razan Okamoto who almost made it there but lost to Furusawa in the finals of the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix. Rounding up the quartet is Big Bruiser Findlay, his size and power offering him a distinct advantage in this multi man match.

Sole Survivor Tour Night 1 in Kobe, Kansai Region

1. Zeshin Makioka, Gidayu Katou, Tobei Sugimura, Motoyuki Miyake and MUSCLE Serizawa defeated Conner Threepwood, The American Cobras and The Hurt in 9:57 when Zeshin Makioka submitted Conner Threepwood. [55]

2. Rokuemon Matsushita, Sharaku Okimasa, Azumamaro Kita, Fujio Narahashi and Omezo Shikitei defeated Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, Last of the Golden Lions, Yutaka Ogata and Ritsu Ibata) in 16:07 when Fujio Narahashi pinned Ritsu Ibata with a Lariat Clothesline. [55]

3. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi, Inejiro Yoshizawa and Noritoshi Miura) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody, Texas Hangman and James Diaz) in 14:27 when Dynamite Narahashi pinned Texas Hangman with a Narahashi Cutter. [57]

4. Lion Genji defeated Yoshisada Matsuzawa in 14:18 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. Lion Genji wins the Medallion #1. [58]

5. Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Roku Sotomura and 3K) defeated Dread Army (FEAR, Atto Savage, Ragnarok and The Horror) in 15:45 when Blast Ikoma submitted Atto Savage. [65]

6. Pillars of Puroresu (SUKI, Tanyu Toshusai and Masashi Urogataya) defeated Dawnguard (Bunrakuken Torii, Yoshinaka Taku and Naozane Goto) in 17:47 when SUKI submitted Naozane Goto with a SUKI Special III. [70]

~ Sole Survivor tour is underway and already several SAISHO stars are making their appearance. Only in the first two matches of the night, fans got to see Makioka, Katou, Sugimura, Miyake, Serizawa, Robinson, Svensson and Narahashi in action. Two of them even made a statement upon arrival, with Zeshin Makioka and Fujio Narahashi getting the win for their teams in their respective matches.

~ The biggest success for a former SAISHO wrestler this night however was Lion Genji, who debuted in a match against Yoshisada Matsuzawa for one of the Challengers Series Medallions. Genji impressed with his performance and managed to also win the bout to claim one of the Medallions, re-starting the race to determine FEAR's next challenger for the belt.

~ Regarding the four Sole Survivor participants, Findlay and Torii were off to a bad start chalking losses on their records, whereas Okamoto and Ikoma pulled off victories, the latter even being the one to score the pin over Atto Savage. Of course, multi man tags are very different to a four way singles bout, but if nothing else, wins throughout the tour will help build momentum and a good psychological edge for the big match.

1. Ray Snow and The American Cobras defeated Okamoto-gun (Yoshisada Matsuzawa, Inejiro Yoshizawa and Noritoshi Miura) in 11:03 when Storm Spillane submitted Yoshisada Matsuzawa with a Kneeling Boston Crab. [56]

2. Dawnguard (Ichiro Mitsukuri, Koyo Kinoshita, Suguru Emoto and Takenori Doi) defeated Pillars of Puroresu (Danjuro Kikuchi, Ryobe Uno, Yutaka Ogata and Ritsu Ibata) in 14:58 when Takenori Doi pinned Ritsu Ibata with a Charging Knee Strike. [35]

3. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi, Jimmy Stratosphere and Motty Kuroda) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody, Texas Hangman and James Diaz) in 14:17 when Razan Okamoto pinned James Diaz with a quick cradle. [55]

4. Rokuemon Matsushita defeated Masashi Urogataya in 14:13 by pinfall with an One-Handed Choke Slam. Rokuemon Matsushita wins the Medallion #2. [59]

5. Dread Army (FEAR, Atto Savage, Ragnarok, Abomination and Monstrosity) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Kadonomaro Kamisaka, Kiyotaka and Sojuro Sen) in 15:39 when FEAR pinned Sojuro Sen with a Fear Drive. [67]

6. Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI and Tanyu Toshusai) defeated Dawnguard (Bunrakuken Torii, Yoshinaka Taku and Naozane Goto) in 20:48 when Tanyu Toshusai pinned Yoshinaka Taku with a Dangerous Brainbuster. [73]

~ The addition of the World champion in the main event was enough to turn the tide in favor of his team, even if Furusawa himself wasn't the one to end the match. The Pillars team wisely focused on the least experienced of their opponents in Goto, however the big man persevered and fought on to the end, with Taku eventually taking both of Toshusai's finishers and the pin.

~ Pillars also had an opportunity to claim one of the Challengers Series Medallions, but Rokuemon Matsushita put the brakes on Urogataya's ambitions and walked away with the prize. The former two-time champion is once again in the race and it will be interesting to see if this time he manages to fight his way into another title shot.

~ Of all the Survivor participants, Razan Okamoto had the best night with a great match and a clever roll up to pin big James Diaz. Okamoto seems to be silently building up momentum, not only racking up the victories but also apparently wrestling in some lower profile contests that might have him compete in the final match with the least damage sustained.

Sole Survivor Tour Night 3 in Osaka, Kansai Region

Sat. W1 June 2020

1. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi, Yoshisada Matsuzawa, Inejiro Yoshizawa and Noritoshi Miura) defeated Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody, Texas Hangman, James Diaz and Maelstrom in 10:21 when Inejiro Yoshizawa pinned Maelstrom with a Yoshizawa Bomb. [55]

2. Conner Threepwood, The American Cobras and The Hurt defeated Pillars of Puroresu (Masashi Urogataya, Last of the Golden Lions, Yutaka Ogata and Ritsu Ibata) in 14:47 when Nigel Svensson submitted Ritsu Ibata with a Hyper Extension Arm Lock. [50]

3. Lion Genji, Zeshin Makioka and Black Iron Corps defeated Dawnguard (Ichiro Mitsukuri, Koyo Kinoshita, Suguru Emoto and Takenori Doi) in 11:36 when Fujio Narahashi pinned Takenori Doi with a Lariat Clothesline. [49]

4. Tanyu Toshusai defeated Naozane Goto in 14:18 by submission. Tanyu Toshusai wins the Medallion #3. [58]

5. Dread Army (FEAR, Abomination, Monstrosity, Atto Savage and Ragnarok) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Roku Sotomura, Sojuro Sen and Kiyotaka) in 13:36 when Ragnarok pinned Kiyotaka with a Death of the Gods. [67]

6. Bunrakuken Torii and Yoshinaka Taku defeated Mabuchi Furusawa and SUKI in 23:44 when Yoshinaka Taku pinned SUKI with a Full Nelson Bomb. [80]

~ A rare tag team main event to wrap up BCG's Kansai leg of the tour, with the top two men of Pillars and Dawnguard and it delivered an exciting bout, as expected. Yoshi Taku stepped up his game bigtime and even managed to score the pin over SUKI, giving his faction their first big win after two consecutive losses to Furusawa's group.

~ Elsewhere in the card, Tanyu Toshusai defeated Naozane Goto to claim the third of the Challengers Series Medallions, giving him hope to perhaps reclaim the belt he won at the start of the year, ironically enough from Goto. Toshusai will now have to defend his Medallion throughout the rest of the tour, before he is allowed to face the other two holders for a shot at gold.

~ Fujio Narahashi reunited with Azumamaro Kita to reunite as the Black Iron Corps, but the joy wasn't meant to last as the former SAISHO star ended the night with a severe shoulder injury that is expected to keep him on the sidelines for several months. Despite not being a major presence in BCG yet, the incident certainly halted Narahashi's initial momentum and it will be interesting to see in what capacity he will be used upon his return.

Sucks to hear about Black Iron Corps. Always loved picking them up from SAISHO for BCG.

Fujio's great and since I had Kita already... Hope the injury doesn't cripple his performance long term.

Man. A shoulder injury in his debut?! My biggest question at this point is where is the Desperado?!?

In MAW and refusing to take bookings in Japan.

Edit: I just noticed, this was actually Narahashi's second BCG match. His debut was during the first night of this tour.

6. </span><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"><strong>Dawnguard (Bunrakuken Torii, Yoshinaka Taku, Ichiro Mitsukuri and Koyo Kinoshita) defeated Pillars of Puroresu (SUKI, Tanyu Toshusai, Masashi Urogataya and Danjuro Kikuchi)</strong></span><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> in 18:09 when Yoshinaka Taku pinned Masashi Urogataya with a Full Nelson Bomb. </span><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"><strong>[59]</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Yoshi Taku has done it again, scoring the pin to even the playing field between Dawnguard and Pillars of Puroresu at two wins each. Torii's group lost their first two main event matches but have made a convincing comeback, leading many to assume that having this rivalry in the spotlight is a hint that Torii is set to win the Sole Survivor match and move on to face Furusawa for the World title at The Lion's Roar.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Funakoshi also showed signs of his old self in the main event, even managing to hit the massive Ragnarok with his Butterfly Backbreaker finisher. ~ Lion Genji already seems to be a breakout star of the SAISHO crop, as he managed to retain his Challengers Series Medallion against Sojuro Sen. 5. </span><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"><strong>Dread Army (The Horror, Atto Savage and Ragnarok) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Nobuharu Yokokawa and Sojuro Sen)</strong></span><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> in 14:26 when Atto Savage submitted Nobuharu Yokokawa with a Savage Claw. </span><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"><strong>[59]</strong></span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Pillars of Puroresu regained the lead over Dawnguard, with Toshusai managing to tap out Goto using a sleeper hold. Torii, Taku and the former sumo star brought the hard hits, but the Pillars trio's technical prowess got them the win at the end of the day.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Matsushita and Matsuzawa met once again in a Medallion match, with the former having the victory when the two last met during the Sole Survivor tour. The story was the same yet again and big Rokuemon made it 2-0, once again retaining his prize to continue in the race for another chance at the Challengers Series title.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Massacre in the opening match, with Yutaka Ogata botching a move and failing to release the fingerlock in time, which resulted in Ichiro Mitsukuri breaking several of his fingers due to the awkward angle they took the force from. Apparently Takenori Doi took special exception to the act from his fellow (albeit junior) young lion and returned the favor with some stiff kicks and knee strikes to the back, leading to Ogata favoring his back by the end of the match and, according to reports, having a legitimate injury from it all.</span></p></div><p></p><p></div></p></div><p></p>

~ Veteran Roku Sotomura got chokeslammed and pinned as Dread Army defeated Seven Samurai, the impact shaking more than his body. Besides holding all the gold except the World title, Dread Army's victories have not been over the big names of BCG and although Sotomura is not exactly a main eventer, the veteran's loss sure is a signal of the group climbing the ranks and demolishing many of the company's established competitors.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Dynamite Narahashi was unable to wrestle Toshusai's Medallion away from him, even if it took both the Dangerous Brainbuster and Toshusai's hot new Suplex Powerslam to put him down. Okamoto-gun did however manage to defeat Bruiser Brigade in the previous match, the group's experience serving them well throughout the tour against the Brigade's latest but inexperienced recruits.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ It was easy to overlook, but the opener turned out to be a solid match and the trio of former SAISHO stars in Genji, Sugimura and Makioka (the latter also having done time in WEXXV, which still baffles BCG traditionalists in regards to his current contract) triumphed over their opponents in Matsushita, Okimasa and Shikitei. The three men put on a good performance as most of the former SAISHO roster attempt to climb the ranks in their new home, with Genji of course being the most successful thus far.</span></p></div><p></p><p></div></p></div><p></p>

1. Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI and Tanyu Toshusai) defeated Zeshin Makioka, Rokuemon Matsushita and Omezo Shikitei in 13:36 when SUKI submitted Omezo Shikitei with a SUKI Special III. [53]

2. Okamoto-gun (Yoshisada Matsuzawa, Inejiro Yoshizawa, Noritoshi Miura and The Diamond Dogs) defeated Conner Threepwood, The American Cobras and The Hurt in 13:49 when Yoshisada Matsuzawa pinned Conner Threepwood with a Double Arm DDT. [33]

3. Lion Genji defeated Sharaku Okimasa in 14:08 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. Lion Genji makes defence number two of the Medallion #1. [54]

4. Dawnguard (Naozane Goto, Koyo Kinoshita, Suguru Emoto and Takenori Doi) defeated Pillars of Puroresu (Masashi Urogataya, Last of the Golden Lions and Ritsu Ibata) in 13:26 when Koyo Kinoshita pinned Ritsu Ibata with a Belly To Belly Suplex. [48]

5. Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, 3K, Nobuharu Yokokawa and Roku Sotomura) defeated Dread Army (FEAR, The Horror, Atto Savage and Ragnarok) in 14:21 when Kadonomaro Kamisaka submitted Ragnarok with a Triangle Choke. [52]

6. Big Bruiser Findlay and Giant Brody defeated Torii & Taku, Okamoto & Narahashi and Ikoma & Sen in 18:10; the order of elimination was Blast Ikoma and Sojuro Sen first, then Bunrakuken Torii and Yoshinaka Taku, and finally Razan Okamoto and Dynamite Narahashi. [56]

~ BCG hit the Chugoku leg of this tour with an unusual four way tag team main event to hype up the upcoming Sole Survivor main event, but ironically enough, disaster struck when Bunrakuken Torii landed badly after delivering his signature Flying Forearm. The leader of Dawnguard finished the match while heavily favoring his knee and after the show, it was announced that he completely tore his ACL during that spot. BCG will be covering the expenses for Torii's knee surgery, but doctors say the incident will sideline him for roughly half a year. As such, he will not be participating in the Sole Survivor match as advertised and Yoshinaka Taku has been penciled in as his replacement.

~ Following Sotomura's defeat at the hands of Dread Army, Seven Samurai bounced back with a vengeance and managed to score a victory over the big man group as Kadonomaro Kamisaka nearly choked out Ragnarok before the latter admitted defeat and tapped out.

~ Second successful defence of his Challengers Series Medallion for Lion Genji over Sharaku Okimasa and it seems as though Genji is a favourite to collect all three, if not take the belt itself from FEAR. The Challengers Series matches are shaping up to be rather interesting in the final show of the Sole Survivor tour.

I'm not familiar with ACL tears but believe it's a significant -and lingering- injury, to the point where I'm debating using the editor to give the Troublesome Knee attribute to Torii after this. Would be interested to hear any opinions on this.</p>

~ With Torii's sudden injury, BCG had to change their usual show formula to put Dread Army and Seven Samurai in the main event. The all-gold trio of FEAR and The Horror were able to get the win with the Challengers Series champion scoring the pin and looking strong as he's heading for another title defence.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Rokuemon Matsushita is one of the three likely men to face FEAR for the title, as he managed to defend his Medallion against "Serene K" Kadonomaro Kamisaka. The Seven Samurai representative did his best to wear down the big man with submissions, but Matsushita was simply too dominant and won with one of his big chokeslams.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Another good showing for the former SAISHO stars in the opener, with Genji and Makioka shining next to hot prospect Motoyuki Miyake. ~ A rare case of Ryobe Uno finishing a multi man match, but it did happen as the youngster managed to apply the Scorpion Deathlock on Dawnguard's Suguru Emoto. Torii's absence is already beginning to show, with his group lacking his leadership and experience, as Yoshinaka Taku tries to stay the course.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ A hard fought victory for Tanyu Toshusai, who was able to retain his Challengers Series Medallion with a win over Giant Brody. The Bruiser Brigade member attempted to use his power to bully his opponent around, but Toshusai's technical prowess prevailed and he managed to get a tap out, retaining his prize.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ The team of Billy Robinson and Nigel Svensson, collectively known as The Hurt, are also starting to make a name for themselves and the former even tapped out Okimasa on this night with his Capital City Crucifix finisher. Although not big and brutish like the usual gaijin, Robinson and Svensson are yielding results thanks to their solid technical skill.</span></p></div><p></p><p></div></p></div><p></p>

~ More trouble for Dawnguard as the inexperience of its remaining members continues to show. This time it was Ichiro Mitsukuri who fell to SUKI, as Yoshi Taku did his best but it just wasn't enough against the onslaught of Furusawa, SUKI and Toshusai.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Injuries continue to plague Black Canvas as Conner Threepwood miscalculated an attempt at a backbreaker on the massive Rokuemon Matsushita, failing to get him in the right position prior to impact and bruising the big man's hip. Despite the pain, Matsushita finished the match and will not be missing the final show of the Sole Survivor tour, however his chances of collecting all three Medallions and winning the title from FEAR are now greatly diminished, as his hip will certainly be a target for his opponents' attacks.</span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

~ Maelstrom made a rare appearance in the opener next to his Bruiser Brigade allies, his psychotic character clearly meant to justify his wild fighting style, which in turn would detract from his inexperience. It is no secret that the Australian wrestler has been honing his craft with SAISHO, but he still got to wrestle a BCG match here, even if it meant he was mainly used as his team's whipping boy and fall guy.</span></p></div><p></p><p></div></p></div><p></p>

The American Cobras vs The Diamond Dogs

After consistently impressing with their performances (and only recently having lost the COTT World Tag Team titles to CZCW's Going Coastal) Marvel Malloy and Storm Spillane were given a chance to shine in a proper tag team match, without other teammates on their side. Their opponents in this opening contest were The Diamond Dogs, former stars -and champions- in both APW and SAISHO, now members of Okamoto-gun. Both teams have spent their entire careers together, so this was a showcase of teamwork and double tap spots to warm up the audience straight out the gates, with enough high flying to get reactions but also Spillane to ground things down for more traditionalists with his high impact striking and slams. A pretty open, competitive match too that packed a lot of excitement in the ten or so minutes it lasted, this one ended with the Cobras teaming up to hit the Cobra Strike on Kuroda for the pin.

In a bout that had great wrestling but didn't have much heat, The American Cobras defeated The Diamond Dogs in 10:14 when Marvel Malloy pinned Motty Kuroda with a Cobra Strike. [65]

Atto Savage & Ragnarok vs Funakoshi & Roku Sotomura

Whether explicitly stated or implied, Funakoshi's group is the de facto faction of BCG loyalists and this match told the story of them fighting a battle against the invaders of Dread Army. Ragnarok's first big match in Black Canvas, this was an opportunity for the Icelander to showcase his power and brawling skill. In turn, this allowed his partner to tone down the "brutish foreigner" antics and display his own technical prowess, as well as the occasional basic aerial spot like a splash or senton to round out their offence. The two men used the classic tactic of cutting the ring in half as they avoided Funakoshi and sought to isolate the older Sotomura on their corner. Once the hot tag was made however, Funakoshi cleaned house with a barrage of chops, forearms, elbows, kicks and knee strikes although he was unable to lift someone up and deliver the Butterfly Backbreaker as well. This allowed the Dread Army team to exploit the opening and get back into the match, in turn letting the battle-hardened veteran Sotomura to showcase his fighting spirit against all odds, to the point where he was able to catch Savage in a Twisted Bow and Arrow. Funakoshi rushed in to dropkick Ragnarok off the apron and with nowhere to go, no one to save him, Savage was forced to submit.

In a decent match, Funakoshi and Roku Sotomura defeated Atto Savage and Ragnarok in 14:50 when Roku Sotomura submitted Atto Savage with a Twisted Bow And Arrow. [50]

14th Champions The Horror vs Challengers Yokokawa & Sen

First title match of the night and if anyone expected the veterans to take things easy, they were in for a surprise. Yokokawa and Sen rushed into the match, apparently looking to catch the champions off guard and gain an early advantage. This set the tone for the rest of the match, a frantic back and forth with no one pausing to catch their breath or opting to utilize anything that could be considered a rest hold. Action, action all the time, which made for a pretty exciting match, as well as an interesting story since the more this went on, the more exhausted the challengers looked, something the champions would realize and capitalize on to turn the tables and eventually flatten Yokokawa with an Apocalypse Blast to retain.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, The Horror defeated Yokokawa & Sen in 16:13 when Monstrosity pinned Nobuharu Yokokawa with an Apocalypse Blast. The Horror make defence number two of the BCG World Tag Team titles. [71]

Rokuemon Matsushita vs Tanyu Toshusai

As was to be expected, Toshusai focused his attacks on his opponent's bruised hip and it allowed him to immediately level the playing field against the much larger Matsushita. Big Roku's mobility was limited, as was his ability to lift, hold up and slam anyone, which did somewhat damage his performance but also helped him garner sympathy from the audience. This was particularly emphasized in the finishing stretch: Toshusai couldn't lift up his opponent for any of his finishing moves, while Matsushita struggled with his One-Arm Chokeslam, to the point where he chose to switch to the less impressive standard version utilizing both arms. Again, a spiking pain blocked him from executing it and Toshusai responded by popping his hips to wrap his legs around one arm, taking Matsushita down into a flying armbar very reminiscent of Furusawa's for the tap.

In a bout that had great wrestling and good heat, Tanyu Toshusai defeated Rokuemon Matsushita in 9:39 by submission. Tanyu Toshusai wins the Medallion #2. Tanyu Toshusai makes defence number three of the Medallion #3. [63]

Lion Genji vs Tanyu Toshusai

After the Matsushita match, facing an opponent of equal size and all-around skill in Genji allowed Toshusai to also showcase his own abilities better, making for some superb back and forth wrestling. This was an absolute clinic from start to finish and it almost stole the show, as it delivered everything BCG fans like: hard strikes, technical prowess, submissions, mat grappling, selling, intensity and fighting spirit from two men looking to beat the crap out of each other. Genji really pushed his opponent to bring out the best in him, while Toshusai's selling was all about the lingering damage from his prior match. This led to several moments of Genji allowing his opponent to recuperate (and Toshusai's selling to shine) as he wanted him at his best, honourably skipping the chances to jump a wounded opponent, which in turn earned him the respect of the fans by the time he hit his dreaded Fusion Reactor to win.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Lion Genji defeated Tanyu Toshusai in 14:23 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. Lion Genji wins the Medallion #2. Lion Genji wins the Medallion #3. Lion Genji makes defence number three of the Medallion #1. [78]

FEAR vs Lion Genji

Anyone going up against FEAR was guaranteed to be cheered, but Genji's antics in the previous match generated even more passionate support for him as he sought to unseat the champion. FEAR was his usual intimidating dominant self, an attitude that has led many to see him as the top candidate to eventually unseat Findlay in the spot of BCG's top gaijin. Not as exciting or evenly spread out as its predecessor, this match still delivered hard hits and big bombs, the final one being the Fear Drive that marked the champion's second title defence, bringing him one step closer to a shot at the BCG World title.

In a bout that had great wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, FEAR defeated Lion Genji in 16:23 by pinfall with a Fear Drive. FEAR makes defence number two of the BCG Challengers Series. [62]

Okamoto-gun (Dynamite Narahashi, Yoshizawa & Miura) vs Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI and Masashi Urogataya)

Albeit a decent match, there was no mistaking this as somewhat of a breather between the final two title bouts giving all six men a chance to be on the card. Having so many people involved allowed for several break ups of pinning predicaments and submission situations, which in turn kept the flow of it going for nearly fifteen minutes until the surprise and somewhat sudden finish of Narahashi getting a quick pin with a cradle on Urogataya.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Okamoto-gun (Dynamite Narahashi, Inejiro Yoshizawa and Noritoshi Miura) defeated Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI and Masashi Urogataya) in 15:36 when Dynamite Narahashi pinned Masashi Urogataya with a quick cradle. [73]

Big Bruiser Findlay vs Blast Ikoma vs Razan Okamoto vs Yoshinaka Taku

BCG's only multi man singles match each year, Sole Survivor is always welcome as a fresh change of pace and featuring some of the top competitors on the roster only helps it be even more exciting. All four men took the time to put together a classic slow burner of a bout, with Taku's sense of urgency to prove himself and fill in for the injured Torii amping up the excitement. Unfortunately for him, this eagerness exposed him to several mistakes and he was the first elimination, courtesy of an Atomic Spinebuster from Findlay. From there, Ikoma and Okamoto would team up against the Big Bruiser, wearing him down with strikes to counter his massive strength advantage. Findlay bounced back with a huge double lariat and almost eliminated Okamoto before Ikoma broke up the pin to pick up Findlay for a ring shaking Northern Lights Bomb and the pin.

Down to Ikoma and Okamoto from there on, the match played out much like a classic BCG main event, building towards a climax as the two competitors used their selling and fighting spirit for the escalation. Ikoma seemed hellbent on claiming back to back wins and hopefully moving on to bring the World title back to the Seven Samurai, but it was Okamoto who managed to score the pin in the end, earning himself the shot against Furusawa in a rematch of their Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix block finals from April.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Razan Okamoto defeated Yoshinaka Taku, Blast Ikoma and Big Bruiser Findlay in 32:29. The order of elimination was Yoshinaka Taku first, then Big Bruiser Findlay and finally, Blast Ikoma. Razan Okamoto wins the BCG Sole Survivor. [79]

After the match, Yoshifusa Maeda presented the trophy to the winner and Okamoto got to address the fans, thanking them for their support and wrapping up the show to send them home happy. [69]</div>

Okamoto: "This is a huge moment and I'm delighted to hold this trophy again. It's been a long time since the first Sole Survivor match and you might remember I won that to eventually claim the World title from Torii then. I plan to do it again and unlike our Grand Prix match, I will not make the same mistakes. Mabuchi Furusawa, when we meet in the ring again, you're going down this time."

Taku: "I did my best to live up to the expectations, despite being a last minute addition to this match, mind you. I can only wish Bunrakuken Torii a speedy recovery, in the meantime I'll do my best to lead Dawnguard in his absence"

Furusawa: "Whoever won the main event would have made for one hell of a challenger. I'm ready for Okamoto, but I have to say I was also proud of the effort Tanyu Toshusai put in tonight."

FEAR: "One more of these and I'm coming for the World title. Dread Army has come to dominate and once we hold all the gold in this place, you will learn to live in fear!"</div>

</span></p><div style="text-align:left;"><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">~ Razan Okamoto and Mabuchi Furusawa were the center of attention at the press conference in light of their World title match at The Lion's Roar after the former won the Sole Survivor match, but Furusawa also took the time to praise Tanyu Toshusai for his performances all year. This wasn't just empty praise either, since Furusawa said he will need a warm-up match before facing Okamoto and offered Toshusai just that, a non-title singles bout to headline the final Legacy show.</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

</span></p><div style="text-align:left;"><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">~ Another man Furusawa had a lot of good things to say about was Lion Genji, to the point where he openly invited him to join Pillars of Puroresu, citing his past as a Golden Canvas Grappling wrestler and Openweight champion. He wasn't the only one though, since Funakoshi also praised Genji, saying he reminds him a lot of himself. With Kiyotaka sidelined due to a shoulder injury, Genji was also invited to fill in as one of the Seven Samurai; instead of publicly declaring allegiance however, Genji said he wants both sides to prove themselves against him in the ring before he picks one. Thus, Lion Genji will be having a series of singles bouts against representatives from each faction respectively, with his final answer to be given after the end of the Legacy tour.</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

</span></p><div style="text-align:left;"><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">~ Seven Samurai aren't the only group plagued by injury, as Dawnguard have lost their leader Bunrakuken Torii to a torn ACL. Yoshinaka Taku has stepped up to take his place for the time being, but results have been mixed, to say the least, so he has requested the aid of his father, Toshinobu in leading the faction. Taku Sr. will be appearing throughout the Legacy tour, leading up to his final match before hanging up the boots. His opponent has been penciled in as Zeshin Makioka, who also got a lot of questions from the press in regards to his recent social media feud with PGHW's Kozue Kawashima, in which he retorted Kawashima's comments about "blobs that shouldn't be allowed to wrestle" by saying he's not exactly ripped but can still deliver killer matches regularly. Makioka and Taku will not be the only goodbye match on the card, as Yoriie Ippitsusai will also be wrestling his final bout against "Serene K" Kadonomaro Kamisaka.</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

</span></p><div style="text-align:left;"><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">~ Following their victory in the opening match of Sole Survivor, Malloy and Spillane issued a challenge to The Horror for the BCG World Tag Team titles. The champions accepted and when journalists asked the Cobras about their mental state after losing the COTT World Tag Team titles to Going Coastal, Malloy and Spillane answered that as disheartening is this is, it also means reduced dates and matches to defend them, which should help them prepare better for their match against the Dread Army duo.</span></p></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;"> </span></p><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">

</span></p><div style="text-align:left;"><p><span style="color:#F5DEB3;">~ Finally, it was announced that Texas Hangman will be getting the full "young lion trials" treatment throughout the tour, wrestling both young upcoming talent and established veterans to showcase his ability in a series of singles matches. Such trials are traditionally meant for Japanese rookies upon completing their training period and before leaving for excursion, Hangman however is not expected to depart from Black Canvas once his trials are completed.</span></p></div><p></p><p></div></p></div><p></p>

1. Texas Hangman defeated Takenori Doi in 9:57 by pinfall with a Choke Slam. [31]

2. Lion Genji defeated Ryobe Uno in 14:51 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. [52]

3. Okamoto-gun (Dynamite Narahashi and The Diamond Dogs) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody and James Diaz) in 13:54 when Dynamite Narahashi pinned James Diaz with a Narahashi Cutter. [58]

4. Conner Threepwood and The American Cobras defeated Dread Army (FEAR and The Horror) in 16:06 when Marvel Malloy pinned Abomination with a Marvel Breaker. [63]

5. Team Taku and Naozane Goto defeated Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Inejiro Yoshizawa and Noritoshi Miura) in 18:09 when Yoshinaka Taku pinned Noritoshi Miura with a Full Nelson Bomb. [66]

6. Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI, Tanyu Toshusai, Masashi Urogataya and Danjuro Kikuchi) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Sojuro Sen, Nobuharu Yokokawa and Roku Sotomura) in 20:55 when Danjuro Kikuchi submitted Roku Sotomura with a Step Over Leg Bar. [71]

~ The scheduled clash between Furusawa and Toshusai seemed to spur both men on and their team pulled off a win in the first main event of the tour, even if neither man managed to get the pin themselves. Meanwhile, Toshinobu Taku's return is already paying dividends as the Dawnguard team were able to defeat Okamoto-gun in a match featuring the winner of Sole Survivor himself.

~ The American Cobras are also off to a good start, with Malloy pinning Abomination in their six man tag. The dents in Dread Army's armor are starting to show, but there's no denying that despite any missteps, FEAR and The Horror always deliver the goods when it comes to big title matches.

~ Lion Genji and Texas Hangman opened the show with their respective singles matches, both winning as expected over their less experienced opponents. Genji's victory should come as no surprise, but Hangman got to showcase his skills in his first ever singles matches, complete with the Chokeslam he seems will be using as a finishing maneuver.

1. Suguru Emoto defeated Texas Hangman in 10:02 by pinfall with a Dangerous Brainbuster. [33]

2. Lion Genji defeated Roku Sotomura in 14:59 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. [45]

3. Okamoto-gun (Dynamite Narahashi, Inejiro Yoshizawa, Noritoshi Miura, and The Diamond Dogs) defeated Team Taku, Naozane Goto, Ichiro Mitsukuri and Koyo Kinoshita in 14:33 when Motty Kuroda pinned Ichiro Mitsukuri with a Missile Dropkick. [55]

4. Giant Brody defeated Yoshisada Matsuzawa in 13:53 by pinfall with a Single Handed Choke Slam. Giant Brody wins the Medallion #1. [52]

5. Dread Army (FEAR, The Horror and Ragnarok) defeated Conner Threepwood, Ray Snow and The American Cobras in 16:03 when Ragnarok pinned Ray Snow with a Death of the Gods. [60]

6. Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Nobuharu Yokokawa, Sojuro Sen and Kadonomaro Kamisaka) defeated Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI, Masashi Urogataya and Last of the Golden Lions) in 21:41 when Kadonomaro Kamisaka submitted Ryobe Uno with a Triangle Choke. [69]

~ Very much a balancing act, Night 2 of the Legacy tour saw Seven Samurai, Dread Army and Okamoto-gun score the equalizers over their respective opponents. It wasn't all rejoicing for all those factions however, as the veteran Roku Sotomura suffered defeat at the hands of Lion Genji.

~ Giant Brody is the first man to win a Challengers Series Medallion this tour and he did it with a victory over Yoshisada Matsuzawa. This is another step in Brody stepping up to fill in for the injured Animal Harker and by this point he is widely regarded as having replaced him as the top wrestler in Bruiser Brigade behind only Big Bruiser Findlay.

~ Toshinobu Taku's return may have not brought him another victory this night, but he had some pretty inspiring words for Suguru Emoto before the opening match, which led to the youngster defeating Texas Hangman in their singles match. Hangman is now at 1-1, while Emoto also had the chance to prove himself in singles competition and pick up a significant win.

2. Azumamaro Kita, Motoyuki Miyake and Tobei Sugimura defeated Conner Threepwood and The Hurt in 16:05 when Tobei Sugimura pinned Conner Threepwood with a Spinning Wheel Kick. [50]

3. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi, Yoshisada Matsuzawa and The Diamond Dogs) defeated Team Taku, Ichiro Mitsukuri, Koyo Kinoshita and Suguru Emoto in 15:22 when Yoshisada Matsuzawa pinned Suguru Emoto with a Double Arm DDT. [50]

4. Dread Army (FEAR, Atto Savage and Ragnarok) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody and James Diaz) in 15:34 when Atto Savage submitted James Diaz with a Savage Claw. [58]

5. Lion Genji defeated Danjuro Kikuchi in 15:48 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. [63]

6. Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI, Tanyu Toshusai and Masashi Urogataya) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Nobuharu Yokokawa and Sojuro Sen) in 19:50 when Tanyu Toshusai pinned Nobuharu Yokokawa with a Dangerous Brainbuster. [66]

~ Tanyu Toshusai continues to build momentum in light of his match against Furusawa, this time standing out in the main event as he delivered the winning Dangerous Brainbuster on Yokokawa. It seems the prospect of the match has served to light a fire under both men and make them even more competitive, instead of undermining the unity of their faction.

~ Another victory for Lion Genji in his series of matches, this one over the less experienced but technically versed Danjuro Kikuchi. The Pillars member looked good even in defeat while Genji continues his streak as he seems to be on a schedule of facing progressively harder opponents.

~ Zeshin Makioka may have not delivered what he called a "killer match" against Texas Hangman, but he was still able to match the big brawler and bring him down for a tap out. Makioka continues to impress and it hasn't escaped viewers that he continues to utilize submissions as his finishers instead of his usual DDT, perhaps a hint at him rounding up his style compared to his WEXXV and SAISHO days.

3. Team Taku, Ichiro Mitsukuri, Koyo Kinoshita and Suguru Emoto defeated Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Inejiro Yoshizawa, Noritoshi Miura and The Diamond Dogs) in 16:15 when Koyo Kinoshita pinned Motty Kuroda with a Belly To Belly Suplex. [50]

6. Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Sojuro Sen and Kadonomaro Kamisaka) defeated Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI, Tanyu Toshusai and Masashi Urogataya) in 19:30 when Blast Ikoma pinned Masashi Urogataya with a Northern Lights Bomb. [67]

~ The second Challengers Series Medallion now rests with Dynamite Narahashi after a hard fought match against fellow Okamoto-gun competitor Yoshisada Matsuzawa. The two men wrestled a good match, shaking hands before and after the bout, confirming that all is well between them despite the clash.

~ Another loss for Nobuharu Yokokawa, this time at the hands of Lion Genji who continues to plough through the opposition from both Seven Samurai and Pillars of Puroresu. Genji remains expressionless and has made no statement in regards to his impressions so far and intention to join either group.

~ Azumamaro Kita picked up a win in the opening contest against Texas Hangman, returning to singles action essentially since his appearances in the Yoshifusa Maeda Grand Prix. Somewhat lost in the shuffle since the influx of SAISHO stars, Kita's victory should help him climb back up the ranks although undoubtedly he will need more of those and against more established names.
