4. Team Taku, Ichiro Mitsukuri, Koyo Kinoshita and Suguru Emoto defeated Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Inejiro Yoshizawa, Noritoshi Miura, Dynamite Narahashi and Yoshisada Matsuzawa) in 16:04 when Yoshinaka Taku pinned Dynamite Narahashi with a Full Nelson Bomb. [52]

5. Lion Genji defeated Masashi Urogataya in 16:06 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. [67]

6. Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, SUKI, Tanyu Toshusai and Danjuro Kikuchi) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Nobuharu Yokokawa and Sojuro Sen) in 19:12 when Tanyu Toshusai pinned Nobuharu Yokokawa with a Dangerous Brainbuster. [65]

~ Another victory claimed by Tanyu Toshusai as he continues to build up momentum in light of his big match. Again, this upcoming bout seems to push him and Furusawa instead of driving a wedge between them and once again, their team got the win over Seven Samurai.

~ The Samurai also suffered a defeat against Bruiser Brigade, while Dawnguard were able to get a win thanks to the leadership of Toshinobu Taku and the fire of his son, Yoshinaka.

~ Both Lion Genji and Texas Hangman also wrapped up the night on the victorious side, the former having to push a little more than usual to get the pin over Urogataya. Hangman, on the other hand, faced Miyake and endured the onslaught of his kicking to deliver a chokeslam, both men putting on a solid performance that probably elevated them in the eyes of the audience.

3. Sharaku Okimasa defeated Nobuharu Yokokawa in 16:10 by submission with a Scorpion Deathlock. Sharaku Okimasa wins the Medallion #3. [44]

4. Okamoto-gun (Dynamite Narahashi, Inejiro Yoshizawa, Noritoshi Miura, Jimmy Stratosphere and Motty Kuroda) defeated Team Taku, Ichiro Mitsukuri, Koyo Kinoshita and Suguru Emoto in 15:39 when Noritoshi Miura pinned Koyo Kinoshita with a Storm Rider. [51]

~ Can anyone stop Tanyu Toshusai by this point? Not in multi man matches, it seems, as he once again delivered the finishing blow in the main event. It won't be the same of course once he meets Furusawa one on one, but the youngster is certainly on a roll leading up to their clash.

~ The final of three Challengers Series Medallion now rests with Sharaku Okimasa, following his win over Nobuharu Yokokawa who can't seem to catch a break lately. At 40 years of age, it seems the veteran is being moved down the card, while Okimasa will once again have his chance to move up if he manages to claim all three Medallions and wrest the title away from FEAR.

~ Lion Genji picked up another hard earned victory, this time over the rugged veteran that is Sojuro Sen. Meanwhile, Texas Hangman also won the opening match, his opponent being the charismatic youngster Yuta Isono in a clash of styles and personalities.

2. Ray Snow, The American Cobras and The Hurt defeated Dread Army (FEAR, The Horror, Atto Savage and Ragnarok) in 14:46 when Ray Snow pinned Ragnarok with a Spinning Back Fist. [49]

3. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi and Yoshisada Matsuzawa) defeated Team Taku and Naozane Goto in 15:37 when Razan Okamoto pinned Toshinobu Taku with a Brainbuster Suplex. [58]

4. Seven Samurai (Kadonomaro Kamisaka, Nobuharu Yokokawa and Roku Sotomura) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody and James Diaz) in 16:10 when Kadonomaro Kamisaka pinned James Diaz with a Stump Piledriver. [60]

5. Lion Genji defeated SUKI in 18:29 by pinfall with a Fusion Reactor. [68]

6. Pillars of Puroresu (Mabuchi Furusawa, Tanyu Toshusai and Masashi Urogataya) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma and Sojuro Sen) in 18:36 when Mabuchi Furusawa pinned Sojuro Sen with a Spinning Arm Breaker. [75]

~ The competitiveness between Toshusai and Furusawa is reaching a fever pitch, the BCG World champion looking to make a statement as he not only ended the match himself in this one, he did so in spectacular fashion by debuting a new finisher in the Spinning Arm Breaker. This now poses a new question in light of the Legacy main event match and how Toshusai will be able to counter this particular maneuver.

~ Lion Genji had his work cut out for him this night against Pillars' second in command, but he still managed to defeat SUKI in a hotly contested bout. It has now been confirmed that his final match at Legacy will be against none other but the leader of Seven Samurai himself, Funakoshi.

~ Ray Snow delivered a Spinning Back Fist of shocking impact to drop Ragnarok, surprising fans as much as his opponents by getting the pinfall over him. Snow, who has so far gone quite unnoticed, certainly drew attention this night courtesy of that spot and it remains to be seen if it will be the start of him being featured more prominently in the future.

Atto Savage vs Texas Hangman

The show opened with the final of Texas Hangman's series of singles exhibition matches, a program meant to acquaint him more with the audience and showcase his individual attributes without getting lost in the multi man shuffle. Hangman certainly has the size, power and intimidation factor down so the matches allowed him to prove himself a capable brawler, albeit one still sorely lacking in the selling department and best suited for quick dominant performances. Going up against Atto Savage in this final match made for a contest with enough back and forth to feel like a somewhat competitive brawl, but once Savage showed a surprisingly technical side of him, Hangman just couldn't keep up and after getting repeatedly dropped on his head, eventually tapped out to the Savage Claw.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but little heat, Atto Savage defeated Texas Hangman in 9:51 by submission with a Savage Claw. [47]

Yoriie Ippitsusai vs Kadonomaro Kamisaka

Ippitsusai returned to action after a long absence and wrestled his final match before hanging up the boots. Despite the predictable outcome of him putting over the younger "Serene K", the bout itself was pretty decent and the two men's mat based style meshed well, allowing them to accentuate their strong aspects while keeping the pace slow enough for the 47 year old veteran to follow without getting winded. On top of that, Ippitsusai and Kamisaka took a creative turn with the storytelling and played up the former's experience allowing him to escape the latter's usual Triangle Choke finisher more than once, which in turn resulted in Kamisaka having to pull off a Stump Piledriver and drop the veteran on his head to finally get the three count. After the match, Kamisaka shook the hand of the departing veteran and Ippitsusai was given a moment to bow to the crowd one last time as they thanked him for all these years.

In a decent match, Kadonomaro Kamisaka defeated Yoriie Ippitsusai in 15:11 by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver. [47]

Dynamite Narahashi vs Sharaku Okimasa

Narahashi and Okimasa kicked off the Challengers Series of matches for the night with a solid, if unspectacular bout that focused on one man being well rounded in his skills and the other highly specialized in submission grappling alone, versatility versus single minded expertise. This meant that Narahashi had the job of lighting up the match with strikes and quickening the pace with the occasional aerial maneuver, while Okimasa attempted to slow things down, ground his opponent and work his lower body with holds. Okimasa actually got quite a big slice of the offence, with Narahashi first escaping or countering his submissions, then later reaching for the ropes to force a break, a setup that kept the match going until Narahashi managed to pull off his explosive finisher and get the win to advance.

In a decent match, Dynamite Narahashi defeated Sharaku Okimasa in 14:05 by pinfall with a Narahashi Cutter. Dynamite Narahashi makes defence number one of the Medallion #2. Dynamite Narahashi wins the Medallion #3. [55]

Giant Brody vs Dynamite Narahashi

The deck was stacked against Narahashi here. Not only was Brody a much bigger man, he was able to match him in speed and agility on top of being much fresher and less battered. This mismatch immediately added a lot of drama and urgency to the match, with Narahashi fighting an uphill battle with everything he had left in him and fans chanting his name as they wanted to see him pull off this wondrous feat. He almost made it too, when he got in position for the Cutter but instead of driving Brody's face to the mat, the big man just shoved him away to send him flying across the ring for a hard landing. It was all Brody from there and after the beatdown that followed, Narahashi got chokeslammed and pinned, sending Brody to face FEAR for the gold.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Giant Brody defeated Dynamite Narahashi in 12:18 by pinfall with a Single Handed Choke Slam. Giant Brody wins the Medallion #2. Giant Brody wins the Medallion #3. Giant Brody makes defence number one of the Medallion #1. [55]

17th Champion FEAR vs Giant Brody (with James Diaz)

Brody had Diaz seconding him for the title match and it felt as though he could finally be the one to stop FEAR since he not only could match him in sheer power, he was more experienced and came into this match after a relatively easy bout against Narahashi. The two men made sure to showcase that in their match as FEAR's usual offence barely rocked his challenger, causing the champion's confidence to crack. His mannerisms indicated that, for the first time since arriving, FEAR had to work hard for the win and it wasn't even guaranteed that he was going to get it. Like a shark smelling blood in the water, Brody sensed this moment of doubt and pressed his advantage with a series of lariats and big boots, before he started raining down the big bombs. FEAR's response showed signs of desperation as the champion seemed to feel victory slipping away and that's what allowed Brody's experience to shine as he didn't crack under pressure when FEAR did. It took four chokeslams to keep FEAR down for the count, but Brody finally did it, becoming the new champion while also denying FEAR his third successful defense which would have earned him a shot at the World title.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Giant Brody defeated FEAR in 13:49 by pinfall with a Single Handed Choke Slam. Giant Brody wins the BCG Challengers Series. [61]

Toshinobu Taku vs Zeshin Makioka

The night's second retirement match was every bit as sentimental (and predictable) as the first one, although Toshinobu Taku has arguably had a better career than Ippitsusai and it showed in how into his match the fans were, reacting to everything he and his opponent did. Makioka is a curious case given his own career history so far and he too referenced parts of it, from hitting some signature high flying moves from his junior days to a quick ringside brawl that harkened back to his WEXXV days, even if he didn't pull off anything nearly as extreme as he used to do back in those days. Once again though, Z-Mak was able to end a match using a submission maneuver, a clear indication to him being a different, more well-rounded wrestler now and the post-match sequence gave Taku a moment of respect in his triumphant last huzzah.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Zeshin Makioka defeated Toshinobu Taku in 13:38 by submission. [51]

14th Champions The Horror vs Challengers The American Cobras

Malloy & Spillane have been making waves in the U.S. and Mexico so it was only a matter of time before they'd do the same in Japan, this match being their first big real chance to capture gold in BCG. The Horror weren't going to make it easy on them though and it took a ton of quick tags and double team offence from the Cobras to barely make this an even match on a somewhat level terrain. Still, the champions shook but they did not budge and after powerbombing Malloy onto Spillane took complete control of the match to isolate Spillane on their side of the ring and drop him with an Apocalypse Blast while Malloy was still reeling on the floor to retain.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, The Horror defeated The American Cobras in 11:59 when Abomination pinned Storm Spillane with an Apocalypse Blast. The Horror make defence number three of the BCG World Tag Team titles. [75]

Funakoshi (with Blast Ikoma) vs Lion Genji

Genji's series of matches led up to this clash against the Man himself, the leader of Seven Samurai and face of BCG, Funakoshi. Blast Ikoma was at ringside to provide support and the bout itself showed early signs that it was going to be a classic slow fuse contest leading to a big climax in the finish, as the competitors spent a lot of time pacing around, sizing each other up and testing defences in a feeling out process. Oddly enough, this ended up backfiring by the time they reached the finish of the bout, as it felt rushed to get it over with and left fans feeling like it needed more time. Still, Funakoshi managed to be the first and only man in this series of matches to make Genji taste defeat, a fact that Genji himself seemed to respect as he bowed to the victor after the match. Funakoshi returned the gesture and the two men shook hands.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Funakoshi defeated Lion Genji in 17:46 by pinfall with a Butterfly Backbreaker. [76]

GskIv1l.jpg25UZG0h.pngQdKNLA8.jpg

Razan Okamoto (with Yoshisada Matsuzawa) vs SUKI (with Masashi Urogataya)

With his match against Furusawa penciled in, Okamoto found himself facing Furusawa's lieutenant on this night, the undisputed number 2 of the Pillars group, SUKI. This was an opportunity for the winner of this year's Sole Survivor to prove his worth and gain momentum by defeating Furusawa's gatekeeper, while SUKI himself had a chance to beat up Okamoto and soften him up in light of the upcoming title match. Translated into the psychology of their match, this meant that Okamoto initially went for big flashy moves and played to the crowd, while SUKI showed viciousness in his strikes as he battered the opposition in search of a weak point to exploit. This setup quickly had Okamoto on the defensive struggling to survive the onslaught while SUKI was in control and fortunately this match was given enough time to breathe unlike the one that came before it. Okamoto's will to push on past the pain and exhaustion, his determination in this uphill battle and hopeful comebacks drew the fans in, while SUKI was relentless in his attacks, even more so after he realized that his opponent seemed to favor one leg. This led to a big spot where SUKI went for the single leg takedown and ended up with his neck trapped, but Okamoto's leg couldn't support the weight and he collapsed while trying to deliver the Brainbuster Suplex. From there, each man tried to pull bigger and bigger moves to put the other away until SUKI made the mistake of heading up high. Okamoto was able to block whatever aerial attack his opponent had in mind and thanks to him already being in an elevated position, managed to bring him down with a Brainbuster Suplex for the pin.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Razan Okamoto defeated SUKI in 25:38 by pinfall with a Brainbuster Suplex. [87]

wFcGLdM.jpg25UZG0h.pngHXpE6z7.jpg

Mabuchi Furusawa vs Tanyu Toshusai

On paper, the main event looked more like a friendly sparring session or an exhibition match meant to give Furusawa some momentum heading into his title match at The Lion's Roar, but already from the opening sequence Toshusai made it clear he wasn't fooling around when he caught Furusawa and hit him with a Suplex Powerslam to a big reaction. This was a statement and the World champion got the message this wasn't going to be easy, although he did smile once he got up, perhaps realizing he was right to be impressed by Toshusai and request this match against him.

The two men traded strikes back and forth, before switching things up on the mat. Furusawa looked like he was always one step ahead and had a counter for everything Toshusai threw at him, but he also struggled to get past Toshusai's solid defence and grab hold of an arm to work over in preparation of his armbar finisher. This would eventually frustrate the leader of Pillars and it became evident when Furusawa abandoned his crisp striking to simply maul his opponent like a savage. Still, Toshusai's defence game was on point and a simple side step while backed into a corner led to the charging Furusawa go head first onto the ringpost. A DDT followed by a Dangerous Brainbuster later, Toshusai was making the cover and in a shock finish, he was able to get the three count over his opponent.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Tanyu Toshusai defeated Mabuchi Furusawa in 28:49 by pinfall with a Dangerous Brainbuster. [73]

ceDGfhh.jpgHXpE6z7.jpgwFcGLdM.jpg

After the match, Big Bruiser Findlay made an appearance at the top of the entrance ramp and cut a promo, saying he meant to come out and challenge Furusawa to a match at the end of the upcoming Rising Lion tour, but since Toshusai beat the World champion in a non-title match, perhaps he was now the man to beat. Furusawa responded by conceding that this is an odd situation indeed, especially since he's scheduled to defend the World title at The Lion's Roar, but he had a way to figure out who is best suited to face him for the gold in the main event of BCG's biggest show of the year: Findlay versus Toshusai at The Lion Rises, with the winner wrestling Okamoto at The Lion Hunts for the shot at Furusawa's title at The Lion's Roar!</div>

<div style="padding: 15px; border: 3px solid #000000; margin:10px;background: #2C2A2A; max-width:60%;box-shadow: 0 6px 12px ";">Post show interviews and comments

Toshusai: "Tonight was a huge victory for me and it really is a shame the title wasn't on the line, because now we all know I can beat Furusawa for it. The only reason I agreed to play their little game is because Findlay was in the Sole Survivor Four Way Elimination match and Okamoto won it, so I need to prove to myself and the world that I deserve a chance at the title."

Okamoto: "So now it's me plus two more potential contenders? Then what was the point of me winning the Sole Survivor? Findlay's trying to weasel his way back into the title picture and Toshusai did well tonight, but he was handed this match. I had to work for my title shot. If I have to jump through hoops to get to Furusawa at The Lion's Roar, so be it, but it doesn't mean I'm not upset about this whole situation."

Funakoshi: "I have nothing but respect for Lion Genji. I knew I wanted him as one of the Seven Samurai and tonight I can say I was right to do so. He is a terrific wrestler and an honourable man I'd be glad to have on our ranks."

Brody: "Some folks were quick to count me out of the game. Well I beat the unbeatable FEAR. I won the Challengers Series title. And you will learn to never again overlook a giant!"</div>

BCG The Lion Rises 2020 Press Conference Highlights

aJXf09a.jpg6xVJmZj.jpgPjUyYaN.png9xXB6Z0.png

~ The Horror have beaten pretty much every tag team in BCG by this point, their latest victory over the American Cobras more or less solidifying them as undisputed champions but a new challenger appeared on the horizon as Fujio Narahashi returned from injury. Formerly one of Pro Wrestling SAISHO's brightest prospects, Narahashi had little time to shine on the main BCG roster before sustaining a shoulder injury back in June but now he is back and chosen to reform the Black Iron Corps alongside Azumamaro Kita, looking to claim the World Tag Team titles from the Dread Army duo.

cenTq4l.pnghIw8c1R.jpg

~ Lion Genji also officially announced he will be joining Seven Samurai during his interview, a fact heavily implied after his match against Funakoshi but never quite officially confirmed until now. This brings the group back to Seven strong since Kiyotaka is out with an injury, but questions remain as to how the situation will be handled once he returns in an eight man faction.

Ixko7pZ.jpg

~ Yuta Isono was presented to the press as well, now officially graduated and no longer a part of the young boys crowd. Isono will be facing his own series of matches throughout the tour and upon completion, departing for his excursion overseas.

~ Razan Okamoto, Lion Genji and the Black Iron Corps began the tour with victories, making a statement in light of recent events revolving around each of them. Genji seems to have found a home among the Seven Samurai and even got the pin for his team, while Okamoto and Black Iron Corps started off the right foot in light of their big upcoming matches.

~ Despite now lacking his father's support inside the ring, Yoshinaka Taku still managed to carry the Dawnguard team to victory. Toshinobu Taku may not be wrestling anymore, but he is still an important backstage presence and expected to sometimes second his son for big matches in the future.

~ Yuta Isono's trials began and this match was a showcase for him as much as it was for his opponent, Ragnarok. The two men had an unexpectedly good back and forth contest, but still the big Icelander ended the night on the winning side.

The big man looks to reclaim the gold for Dread's Army, but he will have to go through the other competitors and current champion Giant Brody, which is no small task.

~ Seven Samurai have already been missing Kiyotaka and now might be losing Sojuro Sen for good after he badly herniated a disc. The battle hardened veteran is expected to spend over a year recuperating and contemplating surgery, as it carries an extremely high risk for potential nerve damage to his spine and regardless of the outcome, even if it is successful, the damage might still be bad enough to cause an abrupt end to his in-ring career.

~ Isono had an opportunity to test himself against Conner Threepwood's technical prowess, showcasing his own grasp of the fundamentals and wrestling technique. It still wasn't enough to get him a victory, but Isono looked good even in defeat, as is often the case in such matches for graduating young lions.

Nobuharu Yokokawa vs Yuta Isono

Yuta Isono's series of trial matches ended here with one against Yokokawa. It was an interesting clash of styles and personalities between the cocky, flashy and quick young lion going toe to toe with the slower but more methodical, experienced and battle hardened veteran, but the actual in-ring action was nothing to really write home about, to the point where it felt a lot like a match that simply needed to go down and be done with.

In a poor match, Nobuharu Yokokawa defeated Yuta Isono in 7:32 by submission with a Stump Puller. [44]

Naozane Goto (with Yoshinaka Taku) vs Ragnarok

Ragnarok flipped the script of the usual Goto match here, since the former sumo star is usually the bigger but less experienced man in his contests; this time, Goto's size and power was matched but it was his opponent who carried less experience than himself. The Icelander got an early advantage thanks to his grappling skill and even managed to lift Goto up an over for an impressive suplex. This signaled to Yoshi Taku and he shouted out to the former Challengers Series champion that he wasn't going to win a straight wrestling contest; he needed to brawl, so Goto switched to open palm strikes, chops and body tackles playing to his strengths. It didn't take long for this approach to get him in control of the match, but once things spilled out of the ring, Ragnarok was able to turn things around by playing dirty and even throwing the ring steps right into the head of a charging Goto. That was the turning point in the match that allowed Ragnarok to do some more damage, before the action got back between the ropes and he once again showcased his strength by lifting Goto up to deliver his Death of the Gods finisher.

In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Ragnarok defeated Naozane Goto in 10:53 by pinfall with a Death of the Gods. Ragnarok wins the Medallion #2. Ragnarok makes defence number one of the Medallion #1. [53]

Danjuro Kikuchi vs Kadonomaro Kamisaka

It should come as no surprise that Kikuchi and Kamisaka wrestled a very technical match, even if their individual flavors were slightly different since Kikuchi opted for submissions and mat grappling while "Serene K" delivered his signature suplexes, peppered with crisp strikes. This was a contest for the hardcore grappling audience, partially due to the slick chain wrestling and cerebral game on display and partially due to both men's apparent lack of charisma that failed to really draw in the audience and have them invested. Not that the fans were utterly silent, but Kikuchi and Kamisaka certainly didn't get the most they should have out of each spot. A bout of targeted limb work from bell to bell, Kikuchi ruthlessly attacked his opponent's lower body to set up his Step Over Leg Bar, while Kamisaka's slams aimed to soften up the neck and head area in preparation for the Triangle Choke he likes to utilize to end his matches. This all built to the finishing sequence, in which Kamisaka got the hold in but his legs were too damaged to keep it applied. Kikuchi escaped and tried to slap on his own finisher, with "Serene K" forcing a rope break before he dropped a few more bombs and another attempt at the choke dead center of the ring, this time fighting through the pain long enough to squeeze out the tap.

In a bout that had good wrestling and a decent reaction from the crowd, Kadonomaro Kamisaka defeated Danjuro Kikuchi in 13:38 by submission with a Triangle Choke. Kadonomaro Kamisaka wins the Medallion #3. [60]

Kadonomaro Kamisaka vs Ragnarok

This new setup guaranteed, in theory, a fairer fight by the point where all three Medallions were fought for, since every wrestler now already had one match behind them. In reality, Kamisaka had suffered a lot more damage to his legs from his own match and Ragnarok seemed to be the heavy favourite as he laid down the strikes. This setup made for a classic uphill battle that fans instantly get drawn into and the audience cheered for "Serene K" in hopes of seeing him pull off the upset win against the big brutish gaijin. What made things even harder for Kamisaka was the fact that his opponent was much bigger than him and thus wouldn't just be slammed around, so he switched to submission grappling instead and even surprised him with a Triangle Choke out of nowhere. Instead of yielding, Ragnarok simply pulled his opponent up, still in the hold, and powerbombed him to the mat, thus beginning another control segment where he threw "Serene K" around with big moves. Kamisaka wouldn't stay down for the pin though and he even used the frustration this generated in his opponent when he caught him with a drop toe hold that tripped the big man throat first onto the top rope. Kamisaka immediately went for the Triangle Choke again and although he didn't get the tap, it was enough to wear the big man down for "Serene K" to then hit a spine crunching Stump Piledriver and get the pin.

In a bout that had good wrestling but didn't have much heat, Kadonomaro Kamisaka defeated Ragnarok in 15:01 by pinfall with a Stump Piledriver. Kadonomaro Kamisaka wins the Medallion #2. Kadonomaro Kamisaka makes defence number one of the Medallion #3. Kadonomaro Kamisaka wins the Medallion #1. [58]

18th Champion Giant Brody vs Kadonomaro Kamisaka

By this point, Kamisaka was spent wrestling his third match of the night against a fresh and well-rested opponent. Brody played up to this, bullying his challenger around and frequently antagonizing the audience who were hoping for back to back miracles. This of course meant that he'd often drop his guard enough for "Serene K" to get some offence in, but other than that it felt like the match was only Brody toying with his prey and delaying the inevitable. Kamisaka once again showcased his fighting spirit, pushing back against all odds but it was just not going to happen, not on this night and not against this opponent.

In a decent match, Giant Brody defeated Kadonomaro Kamisaka in 12:11 by pinfall with a Single Handed Choke Slam. Giant Brody makes defence number one of the BCG Challengers Series. [50]

Mabuchi Furusawa & SUKI vs Razan Okamoto & Dynamite Narahashi

In theory, Furusawa versus Okamoto is still penciled in as the main event of The Lion's Roar, but things could change following the champion's loss to Tanyu Toshusai at Sole Survivor. Furusawa played up both the shock of his loss and his damaged confidence after that as well as wanting to protect himself in light of his big title match, leaving his lieutenant to do most of the heavy lifting for their team in this match. SUKI was all too happy to bring the violence and he didn't even struggle much to do so, since his opponents were both the smaller, faster types. Okamoto and Narahashi were initially in a tight spot trying to wrestle SUKI one on one, but soon enough they realized they needed to work together to turn this one around. Some quick tags and double team moves later, momentum had shifted in their favor and soon enough, Furusawa was forced to tag in and do his part. The BCG World champion was more than capable to do just that, but as soon as Okamoto managed to reverse one of his moves and regain control of the match, Furusawa cowardly retreated to tag SUKI back in. Well aware of what he could expect now, SUKI showed just that when he caught Okamoto mid-air with a roundhouse kick right to the gut. Razan sold it spectacularly like he always does and rolled out of the ring, acting like he'd been broken in half, leaving Narahashi to carry the flag into battle for the remainder of the match. This meant that Dynamite had no one to tag when he needed to and soon enough this caught up to him as his opponents cut the ring in half and worked him over on their corner, before Furusawa ended the match with his patented armbar.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and great heat, Mabuchi Furusawa and SUKI defeated Razan Okamoto and Dynamite Narahashi in 17:40 when Mabuchi Furusawa submitted Dynamite Narahashi with a Furusawa Armbar. [77]

14th Champions The Horror vs Challengers Black Iron Corps

Reunited again following Kita's departure from SAISHO at the start of the year, the Black Iron Corps got their title shot against The Horror, in hopes of succeeding where nearly every other team in Black Canvas Grappling has failed. Abomination and Monstrosity established their dominance early in the match, bullying their smaller opponents around and looking almost as if they were going through the motions toying with more prey. This would eventually turn around thanks to Kita's sporadic but persistent attack on the legs, delivering scything low kicks to the thigh and the back of the knee. Narahashi quickly caught on to this and utilized basic moves like boston crabs and leg whips to continue the assault, slowly but surely chipping away at the champions. This, combined with the challengers' unyielding spirit that kept them kicking out of pinning predicaments prolonged the fight, allowing for their efforts to eventually pay off as the champions began to show signs of weakness. Just as the Black Iron Corps looked like they were about to turn things around, Monstrosity blocked one of Narahashi's signature lariats and turned it around to whip the arm, trying to yank it out of its socket. This, of course, was intentional and looking to exploit Narahashi's recent shoulder injury, with The Horror then taking the match to the outside and wrapping the arm around the barricade for a stretch or jamming it onto the steel ringpost. The champions had the distinct advantage while fighting at ringside and all their challengers could do was try to survive. By the time the action got back inside the ring, it felt like it was only a matter of time and all the Black Iron Corps was struggle against the inevitable. Kita was effectively fighting a two on one match with Narahashi reeling, the numbers catching up to him before he was force to make the tag to his weakened opponent. From there, The Horror simply absorbed whatever damage Narahashi could dish out in order to lure him in and come close to retaliate, building up to the Apocalypse Blast in the end and their fourth successful title defence.

In a bout that had superb wrestling but didn't have much heat, The Horror defeated Black Iron Corps in 16:57 when Abomination pinned Fujio Narahashi with an Apocalypse Blast. The Horror make defence number four of the BCG World Tag Team titles. [74]

Blast Ikoma vs Lion Genji

Lion Genji's series of matches prior to joining the Seven Samurai never had him face Blast Ikoma one on one, yet this was far more than an exhibition match between stablemates. Since he joined the group, Genji had shot up its ranks and regarded as second only to Funakoshi, who he hadn't managed to defeat in singles combat. Ikoma apparently took exception to that and requested the match, essentially making it a contest about who would be the number two behind Funakoshi. The leader of the group was himself at ringside, though he chose not to pick sides and instead took a seat at the timekeeper's table for a front row seat of the action.

This was another classic slow burner match with a big fight atmosphere and a lot of personal history between the two competitors, so of course its first minutes were slow with a lot of posturing, trash talking, slapping, shoving, running the ropes for shoulder tackles, opening up and inviting strikes, the whole nine yards. Things only began to pick up after Genji backed his opponent to the corner in order to pepper him with strikes, only for Ikoma to escape and deliver a release suplex that sent Genji flying to the pads. The former BCG World champion unleashed a side suplex, then a gutwrench powerbomb and a fisherman buster for a close near fall, all the while showcasing his technical mastery and variety of big moves. Genji had the Northern Lights scouted though and he escaped it, retaliating with a quick series of kicks and strikes in full panic mode that forced Ikoma out of the ring to regroup. Genji pressed his advantage with a rare suicide dive between the ropes to the outside, leading to a ringside brawl between the two. Ikoma took a beating for a while but was able to catch his charging opponent and reverse into a powerslam, buying himself enough time to retreat back into the ring. Genji almost got counted out but was able to slide back in too, initiating the final stretch of the match where both men hit bigger and bigger moves in an attempt to put each other out. Ikoma went first with a sickening backdrop driver that earned him a near fall, then tried to go high but was caught with a superplex, followed by a folding powerbomb from Genji for another two count. Genji then pointed towards Funakoshi at ringside and applied the Butterfly Lock, apparently looking to pull off a Butterfly Backbreaker, but this fired up Ikoma as much as it got a reaction out of Funakoshi, leading him to escape the hold and reverse into a Northern Lights Bomb that finally brought the count of three, solidifying Ikoma as the top man in the group behind only Funakoshi.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Blast Ikoma defeated Lion Genji in 15:51 by pinfall with a Northern Lights Bomb. [69]

Big Bruiser Findlay vs Tanyu Toshusai

The main event was given a little more time than the Ikoma-Genji match which did feel like it needed a few more minutes and it really benefitted from this temporal space to breathe. Findlay was every bit the big brutish gaijin he's been since he first set foot in Japan six years ago and actually got a lot of offence in while selling very little for Toshusai, a sign that despite his declining physical appearance he is no longer punished by the booking for letting himself go. Meanwhile, Tanyu Toshusai played his part to perfection as the heroic native wrestler going up against the brutish foreign brawler, with fans rooting for him all the way. His supremacy as a straight up grappler allowed him to use the big man's size against him and Findlay eventually dropped every pretense of fair play, brutalizing his opponent with an onslaught of stiff strikes, before he dumped Toshusai out of the ring for a rough introduction to the hard ringside environment. Findlay really looked like a raging bull as he threw the ring steps onto his opponent and even slammed him back first onto the announcers' table, with Toshusai selling the hit as if it broke his back and generating genuine concern about whether he would be able to continue and if so, if he could survive Findlay's crushing Atomic Spinebuster. Findlay unceremoniously dumped him back first onto the apron before rolling him in for the cover, but somehow Toshusai kicked out, only inviting further punishment upon himself from his frustrated opponent. Findlay picked him up and drove him back first onto the corner, maintaining his hold to turn around and slam him with a spinebuster for another two count. Fans were on their feet, fired up by Toshusai's fighting spirit, but their hopes got squashed just like his back when Findlay followed up with an Atomic Spinebuster, finally getting the three count to win the match.

In a bout that had superb wrestling and good heat, Big Bruiser Findlay defeated Tanyu Toshusai in 17:46 by pinfall with an Atomic Spinebuster. [82]

ceDGfhh.jpgHXpE6z7.jpgGskIv1l.jpg

With Toshusai still selling his damaged back after the end of the match as young boys and doctors rushed to check up on him, Findlay celebrated his victory and got on the mic for the wrap-up promo. The Big Bruiser bragged about his win, pointing out that he should be the one wrestling for the World title, as he'd just defeated the man who had pinned the champion at Sole Survivor. This claim brought out Razan Okamoto, who picked up the proverbial glove of Findlay's challenge and offered to put up the title shot he'd earned by winning the Sole Survivor match. At The Lion Hunts, it would be Findlay versus Okamoto, with the winner getting to fight Furusawa for the BCG World title in the main event of BCG's biggest show of the year!</div>

Findlay: "I just beat the man who beat the World champion, so what does that make me? It means I'm better than both of them! I should just be handed the title and get this over with. If Okamoto wants to embarrass himself by going up against me, he's free to do so. I will beat him and then I will beat Furusawa to prove my point!"

Okamoto: "Findlay seems to forget this isn't just about the title shot. Earlier this year at Heritage, he sidelined me with a back injury. I'm out for redemption and I'm out for revenge. This is personal!"

Ikoma: "Tonight I showed this lion his place in the pack. Genji is one hell of a competitor, but he's in over his head if he thinks he can just walk in and be the top guy. Seven Samurai are about honor and tradition, but they're also about humility and Genji lacks that, so tonight I taught him a lesson he will never forget."

Furusawa: "I'm the World champion for a reason. I won the Grand Prix, then I beat Funakoshi. What chance do either Okamoto or Findlay think they stand against me?"</div>

BCG The Lion Hunts 2020 Press Conference Highlights

ceDGfhh.jpgGskIv1l.jpgQdKNLA8.jpgHXpE6z7.jpg

~ Findlay versus Okamoto is set to be the main event of the final tour show and it was the focal point of the Press Conference, but SUKI was the one to make a big splash with his comments regarding stablemate Tanyu Toshusai. According to SUKI, Toshusai embarassed the Pillars of Puroresu by defeating their leader, then losing to Findlay. "He should have gone all the way, win and face Furusawa-san again at The Lion's Roar" SUKI said "and if he's indeed better, take the title from him. But he's not, and he made us all look bad". SUKI's comments didn't go unnoticed by Toshusai himself, who took the opportunity to challenge his stablemate to a one on one match as a way to prove himself and shut him up.

~ During the event, it was also announced that Lion Genji was no longer a part of Black Canvas Grapppling, as he has signed an exclusive deal with PGHW, something that might in retrospect explain his match and defeat to Blast Ikoma at The Lion Rises. Sharaku Okimasa and Sofu Ozawa were also revealed to have been released.

2ZmnmGZ.jpg

~ Genji's release in particular did not save him from some rather vitriolic comments that Kiyotaka had to make. Returning from injury all fire and brimstone, Kiyotaka verbally attacked Funakoshi and the Seven Samurai for looking to "replace" him with Genji while he was sidelined, announcing his departure from the group and defection to rival faction Dawnguard. In light of this, Kiyotaka will be getting a series of one on one matches throughout the tour against his former stablemates and each of them is expected to be personal, intense and explosive.

OkVIT1U.pngm81sW3t.jpg

~ Yuta Isono was also present for his final goodbye, officially announcing his departure on excursion to the United States and New York Championship Wrestling. It is unknown when the young star will be making his return, but he told fans and journalists "it will not be long" before he is back wrestling on the black canvas.

~ With matches scheduled for all of BCG's singles titles, this leaves The Horror without a challenger for The Lion's Roar as the Dread Army duo have so far steamrolled through pretty much everything the company had to offer. As such, it was announced that a tag team elimination tournament will be taking place throughout the tour, with the finals happening at the final show to determine the next title contenders. Eight teams will be participating and the quarterfinal brackets will kick of featuring Black Iron Corps searching for another title shot if they can get past Last of the Golden Lions first. Former champions Yoshizawa & Miura will start their race facing the former SAISHO team of Robinson and Svensson known as The Hurt, while another former SAISHO team in The Diamond Dogs will represent Okamoto-gun against The American Cobras. Finally, blue chippers Mitsukuri & Kinoshita are scheduled to start their journey by facing the odd pairing of Ray Snow and Omezo Shikitei, two cool as ice technical strikers who will be competing under the name of Technical Excellence.

1. SUKI and Ritsu Ibata defeated Tanyu Toshusai and Yutaka Ogata in 13:40 when SUKI pinned Yutaka Ogata with a Mountain SUKI. [43]

Hostilities between SUKI and Toshusai began here, each man teaming with a young lion of their Pillars group and protege of Furusawa himself. Toshusai seemed to fare better with his partner, but the inexperienced youngster did botch a move to injure fellow young boy Ibata's shoulder and perhaps that led to the finish getting altered on the fly to have him take the pin as punishment.

2. Kiyotaka defeated Roku Sotomura in 14:56 by submission with a Kimura. [38]

Kiyotaka's series of matches kicked off with a victory over fellow submission artist Roku Sotomura. Kiyotaka showed a lot more aggression than usual and that was enough to catch his veteran opponent by surprise.

3. Black Iron Corps defeated Last of the Golden Lions in 16:21 when Fujio Narahashi pinned Danjuro Kikuchi with a Black Iron Lariat. [51]

Black Iron Corps are off to a good start in the tournament after defeating Kikuchi and Uno. Kita and Narahashi had to work for the win and things will only get harder in the next stage, where they will face the winner of the American Cobras-Diamond Dogs quarterfinal.

4. Miura & Yoshizawa defeated The Hurt in 16:28 when Inejiro Yoshizawa pinned Nigel Svensson with The End Of The World. [58]

A good showing for Robinson and Svensson, but The Hurt were no match for the former BCG World Tag Team champions in the end. Miura and Yoshizawa advance, looking to face either Mitsukuri & Kinoshita or Technicall Excellence in their next match.

5. Rokuemon Matsushita defeated Zeshin Makioka in 13:53 by pinfall with an One-Handed Choke Slam. Rokuemon Matsushita wins the Medallion #1. [57]

Big return for big man Matsushita here, as he claimed the first of the Challengers Series Medallions by defeating a serious opponent in Makioka. The former WEXXV and SAISHO fighter viciously targeted Matsushita's recently injured hip to take him down, but the big man persevered and prevailed to start his return the right way.

6. Big Bruiser Findlay and Giant Brody defeated Razan Okamoto and Dynamite Narahashi in 24:49 when Giant Brody pinned Dynamite Narahashi with a Single Handed Choke Slam. [69]

These two teams went at it for almost twenty five minutes, with Okamoto and Narahashi fighting an uphill battle against their bigger, stronger opponents. Fans really wanted to see them get the upset win, but it was not meant to be and the brutish gaijin duo managed to overwhelm them with hard hits.

Author's Note: I'm finally at that place where enough story has been set up to make the tour matches more meaningful and not just a bunch of multi man contests, so I'm trying out this new format to highlight the minor story advancements and incidents in each of the tour matches. Hope you like it!

1. Zeshin Makioka defeated Conner Threepwood in 14:27 by submission. [56]

A decent opening match between two talented men still making their name with Black Canvas Grappling. Both competitors put on a solid performance and Makioka got away with the win, regaining some momentum after his Challengers Series Medallion loss to Matsushita.

2. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi and Yoshisada Matsuzawa) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody and Texas Hangman) in 15:39 when Razan Okamoto pinned Texas Hangman with a Brainbuster Suplex. [63]

Okamoto-gun scored the equalizer following their opening night loss and they did so by focusing their attack on the least experienced member of the opposition. Hangman was able to hang in with everyone else and showcase his growth, but he's still not on that level and ended up being the one to take the pin.

3. Dread Army (FEAR, The Horror and Ragnarok) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Blast Ikoma, Kadonomaro Kamisaka and Roku Sotomura) in 17:04 when Ragnarok pinned Roku Sotomura with a Death of the Gods. [68]

Between Lion Genji getting snatched by PGHW and Kiyotaka turning his back on the Seven Samurai, the group's morale has taken a hit and it showed in this match where they lacked the fire and drive to get the job done. Ragnarok had a chance to further solidify his presence on the BCG with a pin over the veteran Sotomura and Dread Army picked up another victory.

4. Kiyotaka defeated Nobuharu Yokokawa in 16:10 by submission with a Kimura. [50]

Second match, second win in a row for Kiyotaka who tapped out another of the Seven Samurai's veterans. Much like Sotomura before him, Yokokawa seemed to underestimate his younger opponent and sought to put him in his place by taunting and bullying him, an act that allowed the very focused Kiyotaka to do the work and be rewarded for it.

5. The American Cobras defeated The Diamond Dogs in 15:38 when Storm Spillane pinned Jimmy Stratosphere with a Cobra Strike. [65]

Malloy and Spillane punched their tickets to the semifinals and a match against Black Iron Corps, defeating Stratosphere and Kuroda in a spectacular match. Both the Kneeling Boston Crab and Storm Bringer couldn't get the job done as they yielded near falls, so the Cobras had to pull out their Cobra Strike tag finisher to get the win, something they rarely do but underlined the effort they needed to put in this one.

6. Toshusai & Kikuchi defeated SUKI and Masashi Urogataya in 17:43 when Danjuro Kikuchi submitted Masashi Urogataya with a Step Over Leg Bar. [79]

Despite teaming with a more experienced grappler than his opponent, SUKI couldn't make the 2-0 here as Urogataya ended up tapping out to Kikuchi. The young star really shone in this match and nearly stole the show, proving he has skill that far exceeds his age and experience.

1. Tanyu Toshusai, Danjuro Kikuchi and Yutaka Ogata defeated SUKI, Masashi Urogataya and Ritsu Ibata in 15:57 when Danjuro Kikuchi submitted Ritsu Ibata with a Step Over Leg Bar. [49]

Another victory for Toshusai's team over that of SUKI, another tap out to Kikuchi's submission finisher. This time it was young Ritsu Ibata who found himself caught in the hold, his surrender giving Toshusai's side two victories now over SUKI's one.

2. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi and Yoshisada Matsuzawa) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody and James Diaz) in 15:48 when Dynamite Narahashi pinned James Diaz with a Narahashi Cutter. [49]

Okamoto-gun done it again! James Diaz took the place of Texas Hangman for this six man tag and ended up falling, but it took all of his three opponents' finishers one after the other to get it done, Narahashi coming in last to also score the pinfall.

3. Technical Excellence defeated Ichiro Mitsukuri and Koyo Kinoshita in 16:05 when Omezo Shikitei submitted Ichiro Mitsukuri with a STF. [51]

Snow and Shikitei are known for their skill individually, but seeing them together elevated each man and their partnership to something more than the sum of its parts. Looking like they've been working together for ages, the duo had no difficulty beating their younger opponents and advance to the next stage, where they will be facing the former BCG World Tag Team champions Miura & Yoshizawa.

4. Atto Savage defeated Yoshinaka Taku in 17:52 by submission with a Savage Claw. Atto Savage wins the Medallion #2. [47]

Savage defeated Taku and earned himself a Medallion, but it seems to have come at a great cost since the big man was favoring his one leg by the end of the match and afterwards heading into the locker room. If this is a sign of injury, it will only make his road towards the title even harder but that remains to be seen.

5. Kiyotaka defeated Kadonomaro Kamisaka in 21:54 by submission with a Kimura. [53]

An extremely personal matchup in the main event, with two former tag team partners facing off after Kiyotaka's defection from the Seven Samurai to Dawnguard. Well acquainted with each other, the two men traded holds back and forth in a slow paced, methodical grappling clinic until Kiyotaka finally managed to squeeze out the tap when he caught "Serene K" in a Kimura dead center of the ring. His first victory over a younger star of Funakoshi's group, this one is bound to boost his confidence as he heads into his final two matches against Ikoma and the faction's leader, Funakoshi.

1. Okamoto-gun (Razan Okamoto, Dynamite Narahashi, Jimmy Stratosphere and Motty Kuroda) defeated Bruiser Brigade (Big Bruiser Findlay, Giant Brody, Texas Hangman and James Diaz) in 15:34 when Jimmy Stratosphere pinned James Diaz with a Frog Splash. [52]

Okamoto's group seem to have found the trick in these multi man matches, avoiding Findlay and Brody while wearing down their much less experienced teammates in Diaz and Hangman. This does help them get some momentum in light of Okamoto's big match against Findlay, but answers no questions as to how he might be able to pull off a win there, one on one against the leader of the Bruiser Brigade.

2. SUKI and Masashi Urogataya defeated Toshusai & Ogata in 16:05 when SUKI pinned Yutaka Ogata with a Mountain SUKI. [58]

An infuriated SUKI made short work of his opponents, especially young lion Yutaka Ogata who he got the pin over. After the match, he and Toshusai almost got into an altercation to the point where Urogataya had to get in the middle and separate them.

3. Dread Army (FEAR, The Horror and Ragnarok) defeated Seven Samurai (Funakoshi, Kadonomaro Kamisaka, Nobuharu Yokokawa and Roku Sotomura) in 17:34 when FEAR pinned Roku Sotomura with a Fear Drive. [60]

Problems continue to plague Seven Samurai, their diminished numbers now not being their only problem after Kiyotaka has beaten most of them. Dread Army on the other hand had no such qualms and they brought the violence, with FEAR destroying Sotomura for the pin after more than fifteen minutes of stiff hits and big slams between the two teams.

4. Miura & Yoshizawa defeated Technical Excellence in 18:02 when Inejiro Yoshizawa pinned Ray Snow with The End Of The World. [58]

Miura & Yoshizawa are now one breath away from a title rematch against The Horror as they made it to the finals of the tournament after beating Technical Excellence. Snow and Shikitei fought valiantly, but their opponents just would not be denied on this night and will now wait to see if they will face Black Iron Corps or The American Cobras in the big finale.

5. Kiyotaka defeated Blast Ikoma in 21:16 by submission with a Kimura. [56]

Kiyotaka's done it again! Blast Ikoma presented a major challenge and pushed him past the twenty minute mark with his toughness and hard hitting suplexes, but in the end there was no way out of the Kimura for Funakoshi's lieutenant. With an undefeated streak so far, Kiyotaka looks like he could actually go all the way and do the unthinkable when he faces the leader of the Seven Samurai in the final night of the tour.

1. Toshusai & Ogata defeated SUKI and Masashi Urogataya in 15:56 when Tanyu Toshusai pinned Masashi Urogataya with a Dangerous Brainbuster. [59]

With Yutaka Ogata being the only young lion in this match, he was pretty much expected to take the pin, but it was Toshusai who beat Urogataya in the finish. After the match, Urogataya bowed to all sides of the ring and waved fans goodbye, confirming the rumors that he had signed with PGHW, making this his final match with Black Canvas Grappling.

2. Zeshin Makioka defeated Danjuro Kikuchi in 14:09 by submission. Zeshin Makioka wins the Medallion #3. [58]

Makioka began the tour by losing to Matsushita in a Medallion match, but he wraps it up with a win and the final Medallion in his possession. Could we be seeing a rematch between the two, this time with more than one Medallion on the line?

3. The American Cobras defeated Black Iron Corps in 17:58 when Storm Spillane pinned Azumamaro Kita with a Cobra Strike. [50]

The Cobra Strike once again was the way to go for Malloy and Spillane as the duo used it to ensure victory over Black Iron Corps. This earned them a spot at The Lion Hunts, where they will be facing off against Miura & Yoshizawa, with the winners of that match moving on to challenge The Horror for the BCG World Tag Team titles at The Lion's Roar.

4. Big Bruiser Findlay and Giant Brody defeated Razan Okamoto and Yoshisada Matsuzawa in 17:34 when Giant Brody pinned Yoshisada Matsuzawa with a Single Handed Choke Slam. [62]

History repeats itself and with no youngsters on their side this time, the Bruiser Brigade were able to revisit their Night 1 victory over Okamoto-gun. Findlay mocked Okamoto after the match, doing the title belt gesture around his waist as a sign of his confidence about winning and moving on to take the title from Furusawa.

5. Kiyotaka defeated Funakoshi in 17:45 by pinfall with a quick cradle. [47]

Kiyotaka has run through his former stablemates throughout the tour and thus looked like he could credibly defeat Funakoshi too, which was exactly what he managed to do in this main event. Playing defence to avoid the Butterfly Backbreaker, Kiyotaka smartly lured in his opponent and ended up changing his tactics by the end when he rolled Funakoshi up instead of going for the Kimura, a trick that was enough for the three count and a huge victory for the latest recruit of Dawnguard.
