The Wild Ones versus The Sinner Society [booth & Peak]

Malice in Wonderland started off with a good old fashioned wild Southern-style tag team match. The two Southerners in the Wild Ones against the two wild brawlers who just don’t happen to be from the South in the Sinner Society. Nick Booth did most of the heavy lifting for his team. Eddie Peak’s body has clearly seen better days. He spent most of the match on the outside while the other three men went at it. They were there to get the show started off and the crowd warmed up — there were no dark matches on this event so the warm up happened here. Findlay O’Farraday and Nick Booth had a really hard hitting exchange with several big headbuts and forearms and the crowd was really getting into it. In the end, Findlay O’Farraday hit the big Atomic Spinebuster on Nick Booth to get the pinfall victory.

In a decent match, The Wild Ones defeated Nick Booth and Eddie Peak in 11:51 when Findlay O'Farraday pinned Nick Booth with an Atomic Spinebuster.

T-Bone Bright versus Joshua Taylor

T-Bone Bright has been riding a big wave of momentum recently and this was another opportunity to spotlight someone TCW is clearly trying to elevate. T-Bone just oozes star and being paired here with veteran Joshua Taylor. Taylor attacked Bright and there was no opponening shine – there was just heat-heat-heat mixed in with hope spots so T-Bone could showcase his selling. T-Bone’s comeback was big. Taylor took the big bumps he used to do in Japan and really made Bright look like a future World’s Champion and when T-Bone hit the big Powerslam and got the win the people exploded.

In a bout that had great heat and good wrestling, T-Bone Bright defeated Joshua Taylor in 14:28 by pinfall with a Powerslam.

Devine Fortune versus The Elite

A pretty straight forward, standard tag team match. Both teams are high-work rate teams and they told a simple story. The Elite isolated Chance Fortune for most of the match and worked him over. They used frequent tags in and out to keep the fresh man in. It was very simple but it worked. It got good heat and helped build to the hot tag with Darryl Devine cleaning house. Darryl had a lot of fire and really excelled in his roll as the hot tag man. With their team on the line, Devine Fortune pulled out the victory after Darryl hit the Devine Dream Drop.

In a decent match, Devine Fortune defeated The Elite in 13:16 when Darryl Devine pinned Nate Johnson with a Devine Dream Drop.

Greg Gauge was at ringside for this. The battle royal was clearly trying to establish some of the new comers, with Riley McManus looking realy impressive and Ernest Youngman and Mr. Lucha III each getting to make it to the final four. Clearly TCW is trying to develop some new talent to balance out the age of the roster. In a decent match, Edd Stone won a battle royal in 19:40. The other members of the 'final four' were Mr. Lucha III, Matt Hocking and Ernest Youngman, with Mr. Lucha III being the final elimination. Riley McManus got the most eliminations over the course of the match.

Jay Chord is backstage hyping his upcoming match with Sammy Bach. Jay doesn’t respect Sammy. He doesn’t respect Sammy’s accomplishments and he doesn’t think Sammy Bach should be in the ring with him. Jay looks at Sammy as a stepping stone. A stepping stone for him to challenge for the TCW World’s Title and fulfill his destiny.

Sammy Bach versus Jay Chord

With two men who are both vying for an opportunity to challenge for the TCW World’s Title, you had the old-guard in Sammy Bach – a man who has never been TCW World’s Champion and the son of the TCW legend and the Hall of Immortals member Rip Chord. They went out and tore the house down. These two made for great opponents. Jay was mean and nasty and showed himself to be perhaps the best wrestler in the world while Sammy continued to show his ability to sell and get sympathy. He hit all his big moves as well and the fans were really into it and when Jay ended up hitting the Cradle Piledriver to get the win, the crowd really booed him.

In a bout that had fantastic heat and great wrestling, Jay Chord defeated Sammy Bach in 19:17 by pinfall with a Cradle Piledriver.

Tonight, when Wolf Hawkins beats Aaron Andrews he will get his fourth TCW World’s Heavyweight Title and will move into a tie for second most reigns of all time. He wants to go down as the greatest TCW wrestler of all time. For him to do that, he has to win here. He has to pull it out tonight and he’s going to do that. He’s going to prove just how much better he is than Aaron.

Wolf Hawkins versus "The Ace" Aaron Andrews ©

The main event of TCW’s first Pay Per View of 2020 was here. The two undisputed top guys in TCW squaring off in front of 43,000. It’s definitely a big fight feel and the fans in attendance were ready for the match. Wolf and Aaron know each other very well, their careers have paralleled each other almost perfectly. They are one year apart in age – with Wolf being 34 and Aaron 33. Wolf has slightly more experience than Aaron, having started wrestling sixteen years ago as opposed to the thirteen years that Aaron has spent as a professional. Both men have won the All Action, the International, and the World Heavyweight Championships in TCW. Both men have won the King of Kings tournament. They even have the exact same number of World Title reigns – Wolf having three and Aaron being in his third. Aaron’s third reign started when he ended Wolf’s third reign. You can’t find two men more connected to one another. They had plenty of time in this match – they went almost thirty minutes. With all of that time, they really built the story of two seasoned veterans and seasoned opponents. They started with each man going for his signature move – Wolf going for the Running Enzuigiri Kick that he calls Full Moon Rising and Aaron Andrews going for the Flying Body Press that he’s never named but has been incredibly effective for him. Neither man was successful in hitting their big move early and we went into a shine sequence for Aaron Andrews. He was a bit faster than Wolf and a bit more prepared and ended up sending Wolf to the outside of the ring with a big back body drop. Wolf took his time getting back in the ring – using nine of the ten seconds he had. Aaron went back on the attack, but Wolf used an eye rake and hair pull and went into the heat. Wolf’s offense was all crisp and deliberate. He started working on the knee of Aaron to keep him from being able to take to the sky and then he moved on to the back. There were several hope spots sprinkled throughout but Wolf shut each one down. It built to a crescendo with the big comeback. Wolf took several big bumps throughout and Aaron kept fighting through all the damage he had suffered. He took to the sky for the Flying Body Press and the win.

In an exceptional match, Aaron Andrews defeated Wolf Hawkins in 29:29 by pinfall with a Flying Body Press. Aaron Andrews makes defence number five of the TCW World Heavyweight title.

January is in the books and 2020 has gotten under way with a big start. All three major US companies made changes in bookers and we've gotten to see five shows from Alicia Strong and The Historian in USPW and TCW respectfully and nine shows from Matty Faith with SWF. Before we get to their news, let's look at the other happenings in January.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><ol style="list-style-type:decimal;"><li>Nigel Svensson quit SAISHO after frustration with payoffs.<br /></li><li>Burning Hammer went on a hiring spree and hired Marv Statler, Panda Mask II, Americana, Kazuma Narato, Mokuami Maita, and Eagle Kawasawa.<br /></li><li>Miller Fforde won the Rip Chord Invitational for the first time in his career.<br /></li><li>El Leon and Rock god Alvarez tore the house down at Batalla de la Mascaras with the highest-rated match of the month with a 99.<br /></li></ol><p></p><p> </p><p>

Now for a wrap up of the three major companies the United States, as their war heats up. First, with the biggest company in the world.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="w4UKNjU.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/w4UKNjU.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Running the show for the biggest company in North America would never be an easy task for even the most experienced industry veteran but Alicia Strong has managed to keep the ship steady for United States Pro Wrestling during her first month as Captain. The quality of TV show may not have been quite up to what we were seeing over on TCW but the shows have steadily improved each week and after a good, though perhaps mostly uneventful, Special Event it seems Strong has found her footing as booker and now the real tests begin. A couple of signings have been made to the roster, though only one has debuted so far, so it’ll be interesting to see how these new talents become integrated into what is already quite a large roster. Big Bubba, previously known as Lil Henry on the independents, made his debut as a back-up muscle monster for Steve Frehley and that was about it. We can confirm that other well known independent talents have been signed up including Tennessee William and Aldous Blackfriar so time will tell what impact they’ll have on the company.</p><p> </p><p>

The other major note from USPW that I can confirm is the opening of their new USPW Dojo to accompany their new developmental territory Pro Wrestling USA. A string of young, future stars have been secured on contracts to continue their work in the business under the guidance of famous USPW alumni’s Chris Caulfield and Cherry Bomb. Chris Caufield is to be acting as owner of the PWUSA territory and overseeing operations whilst the former one-time USPW Women’s champion will be acting as head booker. It’s an exciting development for the national juggernaut and a clever move on their part to have these two industry and company veterans in charge.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="IR0fcwm.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/IR0fcwm.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

It’s been a tough start of the year for SWF, who find themselves slipping further away from USPW and feeling TCW with a series of hot television episodes hot on their heels and likely to overtake them as the #2 wrestling promotion in the United States. Competition aside, Supreme Wrestling Federation handed the reins to new booker Matty Faith with barely any interesting storylines going on and that’s led to consistent ratings defeats, rumors of the company’s broadcast deal with C.A.N.N. at risk of being cancelled due to low performance and industry analysts now dropping SWF to the rank of a Medium-sized promotion. The Internet Wrestling Community is already ablaze with rumors of Faith being the next sacrificial lamb much like Peter Michaels has been in the past, but it’s only been a month with the man at the helm and for all the problems, he has shown signs that he’s trying to rebuild and restructure.</p><p> </p><p>

Faith’s first signings have been the GSW star duo of Cali Slick and Fro Sure off the West Coast, as well as SUKI. There is no doubt that the two talents from California have what it takes to make it and although SUKI has been a star performer in Japan for both BCG and GCG, he has still to fit in with the less workrate-intensive, entertainment-oriented atmosphere of SWF and his inability to speak English isn’t doing him any favors until he at least learns enough to cut a promo or is paired with a manager to handle that aspect for him. Then there’s been the silent release of Lassana Makutsi, reportedly due to a wellness test failure but regardless whether that’s true or not, it was no secret that the man was on the verge of retirement anyway. Finally, Faith’s big gamble has been to pull the trigger on a brand split, with the Supreme brand allowing SWF’s biggest stars more time to shine so they can help in the ratings war against TCW while younger up and comers got their own brand and TV show, Uprising, on Friday nights in hopes of gaining experience and exposure without this process impacting Tuesday’s show negatively.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="S72TTcA.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/S72TTcA.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p>

Total Championship Wrestling under The Historian had a good month. They brought in The Wild Ones from BCG, Mr. Lucha III from OLLIE, Riley McManus from NYCW and Ernest Youngman from PSW. With the addition of these five talents, it looks like The Historian is trying to shore up the midcard. Early indicators show that The Wild Ones, Mr. Lucha III and Riley McManus are all being positioned as babyfaces which definitely helps with what has been a weak babyface lineup in the middle of the card. It also looks like he's putting less emphasis on some of the established veterans of the TCW roster as TCW continues to evolve into a different approach.</p><p> </p><p>

Ratings have trended up for TCW, but they're going to have to figure out how to add star power to their shows. While they have added depth to their midcard, they do not have depth at the top. They have Aaron Andrews, Wolf Hawkins, Jay Chord, and Sammy Bach. That doesn't bode well for them when it comes to competing with SWF and their depth of talent and USPW's depth of pockets.</p><p> </p><p>

Now let's look at the numbers.</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="3HgR3sR.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/3HgR3sR.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p>

<p>Haha I ain't gonna lie I totally misread the attendance/viewers thought it was one number. Man, the business has never been hotter in the Cverse. All three companies having big ppv/special events. Everyone is doing quite well with their promotions! </p><p> </p><p>

UPSW is a monster! With those viewers and attendances. Never played as UPSW must be tough to keep all the storylines hot and that's why the segment ratings have been so low? </p><p> </p><p>

SWF has a rough tv deal with C.A.N.N. and Makutsi being let go makes a lot of sense. Hopefully running two shows a week doesn't burn you out as this has been a fun diary to read. I think SWF has a good enough roster that they can make a comeback, the only question is would they win the area battle against the mighty uspw? </p><p> </p><p>

TCW I'm not trying to blow smoke up your ass Historian, but I've enjoyed your shows the most so far. I think you're not just an entertaining storyteller but you're also proving to be a really good booker/player. I don't know why I doubted you in this three-horse race. Keep it up man! Although how mad do you think Ace would be if you put the belt on your avatar? haha</p>

I enjoy the process, even with two shows, question is can I rebuild fast enough before USPW goes too far ahead and/or TCW claims the #2 spot?</p>

The biggest issue with USPW is maintaining storyline heat. Due to the starting size we need to have 5 different storylines carrying a minimum of 70 heat which, when you're trying to build up unknown talent in a heavily pop > perf company, proves difficult. I got it under control though by Stars, Stripes and Slams! and so hope to keep it that way but keeping a roster of 60 happy at the same time compounds the challenge. The segment, match and show ratings should all improve as a result and then TCW and SWF will never get close to us!

Feels like you can give it to the named group here plus Brandon is a weakened figure with the head trauma angle at the moment.

SWF Supreme TV Results [Tues. Wk. 1, Feb 2020]

qeYGKnn.jpg

From the diary of Samantha W. Fitzworthy

The first episode of Supreme TV for February was broadcast live from Evanovich Riverside in Trenton, New Jersey, much like the first episode for the month prior. This time the venue wasn’t sold out but it came close to it, with 9.657 tickets sold. Ratings were up however, from last month’s 2.95 to a 3.15, meaning 2.369.366 people tuned in to watch it. Between the drop in size classification and some less than exciting TV, I was a little surprised at the numbers, but I’d wager the extra eyeballs on Uprising do translate to some of those people being curious enough to check out Supreme TV as well and if we’re being honest, SWF did have the best headline Pay Per View match last month so that might account for it.

qD6llvF.jpg2tpRL3H.jpg

The show began as usual with Rocky Golden out to talk and the SWF World Heavyweight champion addressed last week’s events, when Scythe showed up at the contract signing. This brought out Remo to join him in the ring, the big man saying regardless of the unsigned contract and Scythe’s shenanigans, he will not be denied his title match. This fired up Rocky and had him comeback with a challenge to both Remo and Scythe, saying he’s willing to put the title on the line in a triple threat match against both of them and take care of two birds with one stone. Fans cheered at the idea and I am to understand that the story here is that Rocky may have gotten a bit overconfident putting himself in a position where his chances of losing the belt were greatly increased. Hot start to the show and an 87 for the opening segment.

The announcing team jumped on the opportunity to dissect the opening and discuss how awesome a potential three way match between Rocky, Remo and Scythe would be, before hyping up the fact that Scythe would be in action for tonight’s main event, where he would be taking on Masked Patriot. At first I thought they were going to milk that three way match for all it’s worth, but it was actually a nice segway into hyping the main event of the night, so a 62 for all this.

First match of the night was a trios match between The Rat Pack and Brandon James with Best of the Best backing him up. This built on James’ feud with Starr and his lackeys, while also positioning Gilmore and Morgan as a formidable up and coming tag team. The six men were given some twelve minutes to tell a story and they did so to a satisfying degree, especially James who played up his head injury messing with his ability to communicate effectively with his teammates, before The Crippler showed up to attack James, setting him up for the Hollywood Hammer and a pin from Starr. Mr. Eisen rated the match as a 64, I would expect more given the names in this but what can you do.

J3gziSv.jpggT58y8R.jpg1oogrm3.jpg

More announcer chatter before we headed into the first commercial break, this time Fry, Garcia and Chase talked about Lenny Brown wanting another shot at Des Davids’ SWF North American title. With Spencer Spade having made his intentions clear in regards to the title, he and Brown would be facing off later tonight to determine which man is really worth getting a title shot. Pretty decent breakdown of the storyline and hype of the match, this would be a 57.

Coming back from commercial, Brett Biggins was set to face Dominic DeSousa. You might remember that last week Joe Sexy offered to take the L.A. native under his wing so he was present in this match as his manager and ringside coach, pink playboy robe and everything. I’m pretty sure SWF has tested the waters with those two during house shows, because they don’t just seem like a good fit in terms of characters, they’re also excellent as a unit in a way that can’t quite be put to words. It was fun to see Sexy in front of a camera again and he still somehow managed to not make this about himself but DeSousa, who by the way got the win over Biggins thanks to his Widow Maker finisher. This match got a 52 from Mr. Eisen, who said he sees a lot of mileage in the DeSousa-Sexy pairing.

Back at the interview zone, Eric Eisen tried to get a word from The Crippler as to why he got involved in the opening match. I think The Crippler wasn’t quite sure where he wanted to go with this promo, either that he had loose ends with James after last week’s fatal four way or that he’s just out to hurt people, but fortunately James saved it by jumping in and challenging the man to a tag match next week, him and a partner of his choosing against Crippler and Hollywood Bret Starr. It’s nice to see the interference being used to further a storyline or set up a future match instead of just being random or a cheap way to justify who won, 66 for this promo as we headed into the second commercial break of the night.

Somehow I thought Southern Comfort had faced The Pain Alliance before, but after checking my past notes I realized it wasn’t them but The Dallas Cowboys, back when Dillon and Ranger were a team. Can’t say I was thrilled by this match, but there was nothing terrible about it either. Guess it was just decent without much more to it. Dillon got the pin over Big Smack Scott with a Crackdown and Southern Comfort’s ascent in the tag ranks continued, with this match raking in a 56.

So Mainstream Hernandez is a great talker, we all knew that, but he’s on a roll with that new catchphrase of his and fans seemingly can’t get enough of him. It is no surprise then that he was given time on the mic to talk about nothing in particular when Robbie Retro stormed the scene with his disco dancing moves. Despite being a heel last time I checked, Hernandez didn’t snob or attack Retro, instead he got swept up by his hypnotizing hip gyrations and ended up joining in as they danced their way out of the frame in a pretty entertaining segment that Mr. Eisen rated as a 70.

Lenny Brown versus Spencer Spade as promised, good to see two young talents given a chance to elevate themselves and show what they can do. The story here, as mentioned, was about who was good enough to challenge for the SWF North American title and they both went pedal to the metal here. It did help that they were given almost fifteen minutes for this match and for the love of me I have no idea how they managed to maintain such a crazy pace bell to bell. I’ll admit that Spade did seem like the more well rounded one compared to Brown’s one-dimensional brawling, but the in-ring action was great and fans were so into this it elevated the viewing experience. Little let down by the finish of Dulce Moreno having to interfere to distract the referee so that Spade could hit a low blow and then his Supreme Stunner for the pin, but I guess it’s part of his gimmick and a way to keep the loser somewhat protected. Match of the night hands down at 72.

OffRXjh.jpgSVidnhr.jpgnq2GDOi.jpg2gUyrYj.jpg

Primus Allen was backstage cutting a promo when a furious Lenny Brown barged in, demanding the mic so he could talk about how he was robbed and it’s him, not Spade, who deserves to compete for the SWF North American title. Coming back through the curtain, Spencer Spade caught wind of the action and joined the scene, telling Brown he had his shot at gold and blew it. Spade added that he’s proven time and again he’s more deserving and he proved it again tonight, questioning what Brown has done to get such preferential treatment over everyone else with another title shot. This seemed to finally snap Allen, who attacked Lenny Brown from behind and laid him out, all while Spade was cheering him on. I’ll admit I didn’t expect this to be as good as it was, Mr. Eisen rated it a 79 as we headed into the final commercial break of the night.

RSL6GBd.jpg25UZG0h.pngFHUEpiU.jpg

Main event time and I’ve already spoiled that Brown vs Spade was the match of the night. That’s not to say Scythe and Patriot weren’t good, quite the opposite since they even seemed to really click together as opponents and Scythe even hit his hot new “Reaper’s Scythe” lariat for a great reaction and a near fall. This just didn’t have the intensity and urgency of the match that preceded it and let’s be honest, if a three way title match was announced at the start of the show, we all knew Scythe was winning this one, which ended up as a 68.

I think Matty Faith is starting to find his legs as a booker and it showed this week. January was largely about wrapping up the stuff that landed on his lap and he did so at When Hell Freezes Over while also setting up the next stories he wants to tell. This was the first time that I felt the show had a pacing and a direction instead of just being haphazardly thrown together matches featuring people feuding, so overall I’d rate it as a 73, best score to date excluding the episode right after the Pay Per View.
