Boxing Promotions

Recommended Posts

Given the absolute lack of boxing management simulations out there, and the rising popularity of the sport, I wonder how feasible it would be to convert WMMA 5 to the boxing sport.

I've spent a few days playing around with the Killer Instinct mod, which adds about 150 fighters from 2018, several of the top promotions, etc. Along with the recent update to the engine to allow 12 round fights, and the work of the modders to add Attributes such as "Hates to Wrestle" and "Never Kicks" etc, to every single fighter, it makes for a pretty decent boxing experience, albeit limited. Generated fighters need constant editing, for example, to add these traits and remove all the grappling/submissions, etc and I am still getting plenty of takedowns and submissions despite it.

How feasible would it be to add additional rules that promotions can put in place such as:

Kicks are illegal

Knees are illegal

Elbows are illegal

Takedowns are illegal

Submissions are illegal

What about glove sizes? 4oz MMA gloves make for lots of early knockouts and fingers available for grappling, making for exciting 3 and 5 round fights. Could 10, 12, 14, and 16 oz gloves or just a "boxing" glove be added, reducing impact from punch power and removing the need to bump CHIN in the Fight Engine settings?

In the settings for Auto-Generated fighters, could a parameter be added that would allow us to limit new fighters to specific styles or add weights to the various sports based on era?

Finally, one omission that I noticed in working with the database was that many sports are listed in the Olympic games, but not Boxing. Additionally, boxing amateur championships are left out.

I don't think a whole new game needs to be developed to give us a chance at creating an amazing boxing management experience and I would be more than happy to contribute to promoting the game as the ONE AND ONLY boxing management game on the market that is worth buying.
