The League, Redux: Seasons 8 and Beyond Game Thread

Recommended Posts

ALPHA DIVISION

(1) George Mastachas (8-2, OVR 512)* vs. (3) Nuclear Templeton (7-3, OVR 514) [Career: George Mastachas, 3 - 2]

This is, without a doubt, Nuke's title defense. He loses here, he can't catch Mastachas going forward without a hell of a lot of luck. On paper, I think Nuke is just slightly better. But grappling is superior to striking, and there George has a decisive edge. This is the one this week, however, where it going the other way wouldn't surprise me in the least. If Mastachas isn't 100% on his game, Nuke will beat him. It's the type of match where the margin of victory is razor thin.

(5) Brandy McDonald (5-5, OVR 512) vs. (2) The Mastodon (7-3, OVR 511)* [Career: The Mastodon, 3 - 2]

Brandy pulling out the win here wouldn't be a huge surprise, as WreSpi3 gonna WreSpi3. But it would be one. Mastodon has a few decisive advantages in size, strength, and striking ability.

(6) De'siree Mitchell (3-7, OVR 484)* vs. (4) Mel O'Hallister (6-4, OVR 521) [Career: De'siree Mitchell, 3 - 0]

I like Mel. I believe he can overcome almost ay odds. But De'siree is his kryptonite. That's just. How it is.

(8) Daniel Simmons (1-9, OVR 495) vs. (7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-7, OVR 496)* [Career: Reverend Johnny Gross, 2 - 1]

Gross is entirely too motivated to not get relegated again to lose to Simmons.

BETA DIVISION

(1) Brian Blackfield (9-1, OVR 556)* vs. (6) Pulsar (4-6, OVR 469) [Career: Brian Blackfield, 1 - 0]

Observe the Juggernaut Juggernauting. Here's your promotion, big fella. Alpha's where you hit the wall, though.

(4) Blood River (5-5, OVR 496)* vs. (7) Billy Norris (4-6, OVR 497) [Career: Blood River, 2 - 1]

Flipped a coin. These two are erratic AF.

(5) Angela Wassermann (5-5, OVR 469)* vs. (3) Jean-Paul Ouilette (5-5, OVR 504) [Career: Jean-Paul Ouilette, 3 - 2]

Ouilette, unbelievably, has a shot a promotion despite his bad start. And until earlier this season, he's had Wasserman's number.

(2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (5-5, OVR 499)* vs. (8) Big Scott Weathers (3-7, OVR 477) [Career: Yoshii Nakamatsu, 1 - 0]

Jobbers gonna job.

GAMMA DIVISION

(5) Erick Gibson (4-6, OVR 483) vs. (1) Christian Priest (9-1, OVR 560)* [Career: Christian Priest, 1 - 0]

One more asskicking from Priest.

(3) Diego Rodriguez (6-4, OVR 505)* vs. (6) Terrance Stevens (4-6, OVR 468) [Career: Diego Rodriguez, 1 - 0]

Stevens just keeps sliding down.

(4) Indigo Rose (6-4, OVR 482) vs. (2) Lucas Molina (6-4, OVR 467)* [Career: Lucas Molina, 1 - 0]

Molina's stronger and has superior stamina. Rose is the better grappler, but in this case that's almost irrelevant.

(7) Diamond (3-7, OVR 470)* vs. (8) Markus Clay (2-8, OVR 461) [Career: Diamond, 1 - 0]

Diamond can still beat bargain basement jobbers.

DELTA DIVISION

(3) Kichi Hida (7-3, OVR 455)* vs. (4) Jun Onoo (5-5, OVR 471) [Career: Kichi Hida, 1 - 0]

Kichi brings the violence. This should be over in under ten minutes if Onoo starts on the attack. Six if Kichi does. Seriously she wrecked him last time.

(2) Monty Dhillon (8-2, OVR 517)* vs. (8) Devil's Delight (0-10, OVR 415) [Career: Monty Dhillon, 3 - 0]

Jobbers gonna job. Seriously, poor Delight. Everything's gone wrong for her this season.

(6) Nocturne (4-6, OVR 416)* vs. (1) Lance Heartilly (9-1, OVR 440) [Career: Nocturne, 1 - 0]

She did it once, she can do it again. I admit it's unlikely, but this is one of those where I want to believe.

(7) El Tornado (3-7, OVR 442)* vs. (5) Scott Stevens (4-6, OVR 419) [Career: El Tornado, 1 - 0]

Stevens's initial loss was a shock at first, but it made a kind of sense. Tornado is bad, right? But he's fast as hell. So Stevens would have trouble keeping his hands on him or striking him. Most of Tornado's offense is high flying, which a big strong guy like Stevens doesn't have a counter for. If Stevens can't build an unstoppable advantage in the first five minutes, he can get in a lot of trouble afterward. I'll back Stevens against Onoo, Nocturne, and Delight. I believe he's got a puncher's chance against Heartilly and Monty. But the speed of Hida and especially Tornado can ruin his day. Now that I've said all this, Stevens is probably gonna hit the piledriver in 6-7 minutes and win. 😅

Nuclear's friends are very excited to see so many people picking against the reigning champion, the Vegas odds makers are giving more money to people who bet on Nuclear, and you know that Nuclear's friends.... believe.... in him.

As I write this, there are three PC matches that need to be run, and one of them (at least) gets run in a few hours after work as I got training instructions first thing this morning.

The clubhouse leader for Match of the Night is a Beta Division bout, just shy of 13 minutes. The runner up is a Delta Division contest.

I’ve already started updating the clinch simulation sheets and…well, if you want MAXIMUM CHAOS(tm) then you may be in for a treat when that write up gets posted on Sunday.

I'll guess that the clubhouse leader is Wasserman/Ouilette and that the runner up is either Hida/Onoo (c'mon, let me see her adrenaline rush at least once this season) or Tornado/Stevens.

I’ll give you this: half of your guess is correct. Which half is up for debate.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON TEN, WEEK ELEVEN

DELTA DIVISION

LTFF6jR.jpg (7) El Tornado (3-7, OVR 442)*

vs.

(5) Scott Stevens (4-6, OVR 419) fYy1oxq.jpg fTtB0pK.jpg

A rather poor opening bout, suitable mainly for a warmup act and nothing more, this featured Stevens having an advantage for the opening minute, and then losing all momentum as Tornado sped his way past the Texas native en route to the season sweep. Otherwise, there really wasn’t much to report on in this match—it was rather dull and lifeless throughout.

El Tornado (4-7) def. Scott Stevens (4-7) via Pinfall (springboard guillotina) in 5:22.  Rating: *

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR + 2.61, XP + 442.36, no notable damage

Changes for Scott Stevens:  OVR -0.80, XP + 110.59, no notable damage

DELTA DIVISION

BEVGy0x.jpg (6) Nocturne (4-6, OVR 416)*

vs.

(1) Lance Heartilly (9-1, OVR 440) 9q89H6M.jpg

The first contest between these two, in week seven, was a Match of the Night contender that went over fifteen minutes in a normally hectic Delta Division. This time around they managed to condense a similarly technical match into twelve minutes and still maintain Match of the Night contendership (though it would ultimately be third-best for the week). Heartilly was the first to try to end things, attempting his Hellacious Leglock on multiple occasions but finding no purchase on the hold as Nocturne seemed to have the counter for every attempt. Likewise, Nocturne’s one attempt at the Midnight Solstice went for naught as Heartilly had it scouted. But when Heartilly tried for his Arm Breaker, failed, and ate a short DDT, it was Nocturne who surprised the crowd by kipping up, doing a forward roll, and immediately grabbing the ankle of Heartilly, grapevining it as the ankle lock was cinched in. Heartilly had to tap a few seconds later, being dead center of the ring, and Nocturne proves that week seven was not a fluke as she becomes the 2 in Heartilly’s 9-2 record!

Nocturne (5-6) def. Lance Heartilly (9-2) via Submission (Midnight Solstice) in 12:02.  Rating: ***

Changes for Nocturne:  OVR + 5.28, XP + 526.26, minor damage to head

Changes for Lance Heartilly:  OVR + 0.73, XP + 131.56, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

0rDaDU8.jpg (7) Diamond (3-7, OVR 470)*

vs.

(8) Markus Clay (2-8, OVR 461) N0Y594C.jpg

Crucial match for Diamond here; a win and she at least keeps hope for remaining in Gamma. Sadly, Clay never got that memo. What followed was Clay dominating the offensive output two-to-one, and Diamond never even got to the point where she could attempt to unleash the Jawjacker. Instead, a simple top rope clothesline would be enough, and Clay not only avoids the sweep but also claims the tiebreaker over Diamond due to over four minutes of saved time. The League Original is in deep, deep jeopardy after so sudden a loss.

Markus Clay (3-8) def. Diamond (3-8) via Pinfall (top rope flying clothesline) in 7:55.  Rating: **

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR + 3.85, XP + 556.37, no notable damage

Changes for Diamond:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.09, no notable damage

DELTA DIVISION

vz0qqDp.jpg (2) Monty Dhillon (8-2, OVR 517)*

vs.

(8) Devil's Delight (0-10, OVR 415) 54miFm6.jpg xJrKs53.jpg

A short Match of the Night contender—I just saw about half of the Monty Dhillon fan club wince, they know what that usually entails—this was actually Delight’s match to lose. Her sister never got involved except for shouting encouragements, and at one point Delight even landed Hellborne Rising on the right arm of Dhillon, looking to at least weaken the Livewire Lariat if not either of his finishers. When she failed to lock in Purgatory’s End on two occasions, she had left enough of an opening for Dhillon to claw back into the contest. Two minutes later, the fact that she controlled most of the first half of the bout was irrelevant. The Livewire Lariat may have missed, but a Hammer Mill into the Blockade Lock was enough. Delight was left with no choice but to submit, and Dhillon takes advantage of Nocturne’s victory to pull even with Lance Heartilly atop the division. The division lead is at stake next week as Dhillon and Heartilly are set to lock horns in Week Twelve!

Monty Dhillon (9-2) def. Devil's Delight (0-11) via Submission (Blockade Lock) in 9:08.  Rating: ***

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 5.07, XP + 524.75, minor damage to head

Changes for Devil's Delight:  OVR + 0.70, XP + 131.19, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

4ZAKk1I.jpg (3) Kichi Hida (7-3, OVR 455)*

vs.

(4) Jun Onoo (5-5, OVR 471) m6kdW7F.jpg

Coming in to this match, Hida had set the mark to beat for fastest victory at three minutes, thirty-three seconds earlier this season. She then proceeded to knock fifteen seconds off of that time tonight as she systematically cut Onoo down to size. Onoo got a little offense in, otherwise this may have been the first 2:xx match in modern League history. As it stands, Hida’s UFO Spin Elbow has become a viable weapon in its own right, as that put Onoo down for three and keeps Hida right on the heels of Dhillon and Heartilly….

Kichi Hida (8-3) def. Jun Onoo (5-6) via Pinfall (UFO Spin Elbow) in 3:18.  Rating: **

Changes for Kichi Hida:  OVR + 3.59, XP + 481.58, no notable damage

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR -0.06, XP + 120.40, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

2X2r9qf.jpg (4) Indigo Rose (6-4, OVR 482)

vs.

(2) Lucas Molina (6-4, OVR 467)* LG3TCXf.jpg

In week two, Molina won a technical bout in just under fourteen minutes. This was more of the same, a technical bout that didn’t wow the audience. Then again, it’s never been said that Molina was here to entertain people. Rose at least makes an attempt at it, though there was decidedly less of that in this bout as she had to fend off Molina’s offense from all angles. One mistake too many was all she needed, though, and Blood from a Rose led into Vite d’Indaco. Molina to his credit at least held on until after the fourteen-minute mark before he tapped, ensuring that he would win a tiebreaker if it was needed. However, on this night, Rose vaults ahead of Molina in the division with three weeks remaining!

Indigo Rose (7-4) def. Lucas Molina (6-5) via Submission (Vite d’Indaco) in 14:05.  Rating: **

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR + 4.20, XP + 559.77, no notable damage

Changes for Lucas Molina:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.94, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

zd1WDAc.jpg (8) Daniel Simmons (1-9, OVR 495)

vs.

(7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-7, OVR 496)* d7FEgH5.jpg

Not the most exciting of matches, given that these two men are in the cellar of the Alpha Division. Gross seemed to fade off after four minutes, clearly still feeling the effects of last week’s battering at the hands of Nuclear Templeton, and Simmons capitalized on this. He would go on to prove all the nay-sayers wrong as a simple powerbomb bridged into a pin was enough to keep Gross down for three, and that loss may have sealed Gross’ fate to be relegated to Beta for the second time!

Daniel Simmons (2-9) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (3-8) via Pinfall (powerbomb pin) in 10:58.  Rating: *

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR + 2.84, XP + 667.24, no notable damage

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR -0.86, XP + 166.81, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

xHVnvxD.jpg (2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (5-5, OVR 499)*

vs.

 (8) Big Scott Weathers (3-7, OVR 477) OOiJTFx.jpg

Only avoiding a squash by the most liberal of definitions, this was Nakamatsu’s match throughout. Weathers’ hope spots ultimately led nowhere, and Yoshii maintains his spot in the standings for the moment with a win. Whether he’d remain there due to tiebreakers was yet to be determined, however.

Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-5) def. Big Scott Weathers (3-8) via Pinfall (Emperor’s Fall) in 10:24.  Rating: **

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR + 3.99, XP + 630.49, no notable damage

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.62, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

G4sbiHU.jpg (3) Diego Rodriguez (6-4, OVR 505)*

vs.

(6) Terrance Stevens (4-6, OVR 468) 6r4P9L8.jpg

By all rights, this should have been over six minutes in. Stevens had Diego within Meltdown territory at that point with a furious offensive assault. Rodriguez clawed his way back in little by little, and by twelve minutes into the contest he had Stevens looking out for the Prelude to Dissonance. Then the ref got taken out by a reversed whip to the corner, and Rodriguez pressed the advantage even more, laying in strikes and even hitting the Prelude to Dissonance. The problem, though, is that the Maple Leaf Meltdown can come from nowhere, and in a hurry. Stevens connected just as the ref regained his senses, and a three-count led to a minor upset as Stevens prevents Diego from capitalizing on the Molina loss!

Terrance Stevens (5-6) def. Diego Rodriguez (6-5) via Pinfall (Maple Leaf Meltdown) in 15:43.  Rating: **

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR + 4.29, XP + 560.68, no notable damage

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR -0.08, XP + 140.17, major damage to head

BETA DIVISION

aOXlwtV.jpg (5) Angela Wassermann (5-5, OVR 469)*

vs.

 (3) Jean-Paul Ouilette (5-5, OVR 504) ZThYhej.jpg AAdEYyr.jpg

A Match of the Night contender (and clubhouse leader for that honor for most of the real-life week, up until Friday night), Ouilette had to come from behind in this one. Wassermann had him rattled in the opening few minutes, and she pressed the attack when she could at every opportunity. Around ten minutes in, she managed to bust Ouilette open hardway with a hard knee strike to the forehead, and things looked bleak for the Frenchman. But Wassermann could not seem to get Ouilette grounded long enough to attempt her cross arm breaker, and Ouilette would take advantage of that opportunity. A few strikes, a Fleur de Lis, and a Le Petit Mort that almost looked desperate was enough to keep Wassermann down for three. Ouilette pulls out the win, and Wassermann pulls defeat from the jaws of victory.

Jean-Paul Ouilette (6-5) def. Angela Wassermann (5-6) via Pinfall (Le Petit Mort) in 12:48.  Rating: ***

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 5.34, XP + 684.65, minor damage to head

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR + 0.74, XP + 171.16, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

VZFWcYa.jpg hAfQcot.jpg (4) Blood River (5-5, OVR 496)*

vs.

(7) Billy Norris (4-6, OVR 497) ayWv1C3.jpg

A fast-paced match broken up by only a couple of rest holds, this was rather even throughout. The one big surprise in this bout was The Acolyte actually managing to interfere, preventing a top rope clothesline, AND not getting caught in the process. Even that would not be enough for River to win, as Norris got lucky with a springboard senton for three. River is prevented from joining Nakamatsu and Ouilette at 6-5 in the division, but still remains within grasping distance of promotion with three weeks remaining, while Norris gives himself a much-needed boost in his quest to avoid relegation.

Billy Norris (5-6) def. Blood River (5-6) via Pinfall (springboard senton bomb) in 11:01.  Rating: **

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 4.02, XP + 630.87, no notable damage

Changes for Blood River:  OVR -0.07, XP + 126.17, no notable damage

ALPHA DIVISION

p54rf5F.jpg (6) De'siree Mitchell (3-7, OVR 484)*

vs.

 (4) Mel O'Hallister (6-4, OVR 521) wSRPoAi.jpg

In a season and a half, De’siree Mitchell has proven to be the kryptonite of Mel O’Hallister, and that held true again tonight. Before O’Hallister could get any sort of significant offense in, Mitchell had him eyed up for an All Out Blitz. It’d take her a few minutes to finally deliver on it, while busting O’Hallsiter open and never being in any significant danger herself. Not quite a squash, but not really competitive either, Mitchell may have just eliminated any hope O’Hallister has of squeaking out a League Championship!

De'siree Mitchell (4-7) def. Mel O'Hallister (6-5) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 14:12.  Rating: *

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR + 2.97, XP + 669.37, no notable damage

Changes for Mel O'Hallister:  OVR -0.90, XP + 167.34, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

gGexPKo.jpg (5) Brandy McDonald (5-5, OVR 512)

vs.

(2) The Mastodon (7-3, OVR 511)* NSa1kkC.jpg

Brandy McDonald may have just made herself the Kingmaker this season. In a lengthy squash, she dominated Mastodon from bell to bell, never letting the big man get more than three moves in a row. What was even more surprising is that after failing to lock in Hair of the Dog, she immediately responded with Brandy with a Twist, and Mastodon simply did not get his adrenaline rush that many expected. McDonald was quick to capitalize and a few seconds later she had dealt Mastodon his biggest blow to overtaking George Mastachas for the division lead!

Brandy McDonald (6-5) def. The Mastodon (7-4) via Pinfall (Brandy with a Twist) in 8:19.  Rating: *

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR + 2.73, XP + 665.49, no notable damage

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR -0.83, XP + 166.37, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

Lp89uMT.jpg (1) Brian Blackfield (9-1, OVR 556)*

vs.

(6) Pulsar (4-6, OVR 469) VfA2MW8.jpg

This…went about the way everyone expected it would. Granted, Pulsar put up far more of a fight than even Blackfield expected, but the result in the end was what everyone had been guessing since about week six: The Juggernaut rolls on, and claims his third consecutive division title. The Alpha Division is officially put on notice: Brian Blackfield is coming, and he has no intentions of slowing down!

Brian Blackfield (10-1) def. Pulsar (4-7) via Pinfall (Scotland Destroyer) in 13:40.  Rating: **

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR + 4.17, XP + 632.53, minor damage to head

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR -0.07, XP + 158.13, moderate damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

E5dgVEm.jpg O63FjvG.jpg (5) Erick Gibson (4-6, OVR 483)

vs.

(1) Christian Priest (9-1, OVR 560)* YICOeYe.jpg MZ2VDcB.jpg

Gibson’s plan of attack, encouraged by Karen McClure at ringside, was to make Priest come to him and strike when the openings presented themselves. All in all, not really a bad strategy—he actually controlled a fair bit of the match using this stratagem. Naturally, the downside is that his opponent was Christian Priest, and the head of the First Church of Wrestling eventually had enough of the games and bulldozed through Gibson. McClure managed to stop a Canonized by tripping up Priest, but less than thirty seconds later he had fired off another one, this one connecting. Gibson put up a good fight, but it wasn’t enough as Priest prevails in this Match of the Night contender. In addition, due to Molina being upset earlier tonight, the win ensures that Christian Priest earns promotion and now only needs one win in the next three weeks to clinch the Gamma Division championship!

Christian Priest (10-1) def. Erick Gibson (4-7) via Pinfall (Canonized) in 10:42.  Rating: ***

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR + 5.18, XP + 604.40, minor damage to head

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR + 0.72, XP + 120.88, moderate damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

FXyrc6C.jpg (1) George Mastachas (8-2, OVR 512)*

vs.

(3) Nuclear Templeton (7-3, OVR 514) FqeSGy6.jpg

Bob Sinclair: It’s main event time, folks, and given Mastodon’s loss earlier on tonight, the door is wide open for Nuclear Templeton to make the Alpha Division race interesting with three weeks to go! He’s going to have to get through the current leader, George Mastachas first, but given the history between these two men it’s quite possible. Frankie, who do you got here?

Frankie Garnett: This is a toss-up, Bob. In the days leading into this one there seemed to be no clear favorite, and even now as they approach the ring I still don’t know who would have an advantage. I’m going to take a guess and say Mastachas based solely on the fact that he’s ahead of Nuclear in the standings. Templeton has had…mixed success, let’s say, with making comebacks and fighting from behind. I think Mastachas takes this and gives himself a commanding lead in the division going into next week.

Bob Sinclair: Bold choice, Frankie. We’ll see how it pans out as senior official Jacob Smalls calls for the bell, and our main event is underway!

Bob Sinclair: A fairly even opening few minutes here. I wasn’t expecting much different from these two.

Frankie Garnett: Indeed, Bob. But something to remember, not only does Nuclear need this to keep his hopes of a repeat alive, he’s also fighting the clock. He needs to beat Mastachas in less than 20:23, otherwise Mastachas will hold the tiebreaker no matter what.

Bob Sinclair: We have seen sprints here tonight—Kichi Hida in particular—but that seems a tough time to beat given the caliber of these two, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: Just a bit, though Nuclear can pull it off when the motivation and opportunity are there.

Sure, the win would be better since you’re all but eliminating Nuclear from the equation, but even maintaining a little advantage is just as important!

Bob Sinclair: Well, yeah.

Frankie Garnett: Well, I finally feel like I’m more than just the comic relief, or a third wheel to you and Tori back in the day. It took someone else pointing that out to me for it to sink in.

Bob Sinclair: And how is Lisa doing? I’m presuming it’s your niece behind all of this.

Frankie Garnett: The race for the League Championship just got interesting, Bob. It’s now a three-man race, and I think Mastachas still has the edge since he’s got the tiebreaker on Nuclear by almost two minutes!

Bob Sinclair: That’s something for our math wizards to work on overnight, and have an update on The League’s website by tomorrow, Frankie. Though at this point, if Templeton can ride a wave of momentum, he could very well be looking at a repeat championship!

Frankie Garnett: Is it Week Twelve yet?! I want to see what happens!

Bob Sinclair: Folks, that’ll do it for us here tonight. For Frankie Garnett, I’m Bob Sinclair…we’ll see you next weekend for another week of The League!

A short Match of the Night contender—I just saw about half of the Monty Dhillon fan club wince

Man knows how to terrify his audience. Brutal loses this week to Mastodon, O'Hallister, Molina and Rodriguez really has turned a few spots up for grabs or eliminated some outright. Also shout-out to Nocturne for being the answer to Heartily and keeping Monty shot of winning the division. (See quote above for what that's usually meant for Dhillon fans before...)

WEEK TWELVE CARD

(An * denotes winner of the previous matchup this season)

ALPHA DIVISION

(5) Mel O'Hallister (6-5, OVR 520) vs. (1) George Mastachas (8-3, OVR 514)* [Career: George Mastachas, 2 - 1]

- Pressure's on now for Mastachas, shame O'Hallister's out of the race at this point, would of been a doozy otherwise.

(8) Daniel Simmons (2-9, OVR 498) vs. (2) Nuclear Templeton (8-3, OVR 522)* [Career: Nuclear Templeton, 1 - 0]

- The kind of match I almost expect Nuclear to drop, we'll stay optimistic.

(7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-8, OVR 495)* vs. (4) Brandy McDonald (6-5, OVR 514) [Career: Brandy McDonald, 2 - 1]

(3) The Mastodon (7-4, OVR 510) vs. (6) De'siree Mitchell (4-7, OVR 487)* [Career: The Mastodon, 3 - 2]

- Win or go home, I've be calling for a Mastodon champion this season and hopefully it doesn't end two weeks early

BETA DIVISION

- Shout out to Beta Division for being disgustingly close (outside of Blackfield). One result separating 2nd to 6th is crazy this far in.

(1) Brian Blackfield (10-1, OVR 561)* vs. (6) Billy Norris (5-6, OVR 501) [Career: Brian Blackfield, 1 - 0]

(2) Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-5, OVR 503)* vs. (3) Jean-Paul Ouilette (6-5, OVR 509) [Career: Yoshii Nakamatsu, 1 - 0]

(5) Angela Wassermann (5-6, OVR 469) vs. (4) Blood River (5-6, OVR 496)* [Career: Blood River, 2 - 1]

(7) Pulsar (4-7, OVR 469) vs. (8) Big Scott Weathers (3-8, OVR 477)* [Career: Big Scott Weathers, 3 - 2]

GAMMA DIVISION

(1) Christian Priest (10-1, OVR 565) vs. (5) Terrance Stevens (5-6, OVR 472)* [Career: Terrance Stevens, 1 - 0]

- Ideally Priest locks up his first Divisional title this week and gets one back over Stevens from earlier this season.

(3) Lucas Molina (6-5, OVR 467)* vs. (4) Diego Rodriguez (6-5, OVR 505) [Career: Lucas Molina, 1 - 0]

- As bad as losing to Rose was for Molina, a win over Rodriguez is a hell of a remedy.

(7) Markus Clay (3-8, OVR 465) vs. (2) Indigo Rose (7-4, OVR 486)* [Career: Indigo Rose, 2 - 1]

(8) Diamond (3-8, OVR 470) vs. (6) Erick Gibson (4-7, OVR 484)* [Career: Erick Gibson, 3 - 2]

- There's a window for Diamond to stay in GAMMA, but that's rapidly closing.

DELTA DIVISION

(1) Lance Heartilly (9-2, OVR 441)* vs. (2) Monty Dhillon (9-2, OVR 522) [Career: Lance Heartilly, 1 - 0]

- Picking Monty in a must win, late Division deciding match? I'm ready to hurt again

(7) Scott Stevens (4-7, OVR 418) vs. (3) Kichi Hida (8-3, OVR 458)* [Career: Kichi Hida, 1 - 0]

- There's a world where Heartily misses despite his outstanding season, I'm choosing this believe.

(4) Jun Onoo (5-6, OVR 471)* vs. (8) Devil's Delight (0-11, OVR 416) [Career: Jun Onoo, 1 - 0]

(5) Nocturne (5-6, OVR 422) vs. (6) El Tornado (4-7, OVR 444)* [Career: El Tornado, 1 - 0]

As it turns out, there hasn’t been that much swapping. Only De’sire and Mastodon bumped up a group due to performance. Though De’siree’s hanging on by her fingernails there with me. Nuke doesn’t make the top group because his three losses are to the people in it. Couldn’t be clearer than that. Mel’s win over Mastodon, however, allows him to stay in. Mastachas and Mastodon have remained the front runners, with the latter taking a step back due to his loss to Mel. Simmons is looking just like relegation bait, and Gross’s nightmare of being relegated a second time may well come true at this rate. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

It’s Mastachas’s season to lose. I don’t think Mastodon can go 7-0 in the second half, which would probably be what he’d need to do (or close enough) to overcome Mastachas. I think he’ll regress a little. He’s got a couple of relatively lucky wins under his belt, and luck can’t be counted on. He’s not beating Nuke without a finisher or getting a convenient ref bump against Simmons again. Do not, however, count out Nuke here. Brandy and everyone lower will be more than happy to play spoiler if anyone above drops their guard. Alpha is still a very competitive division, even if the records don’t entirely show it. I’ll probably see you all here again at the 3/4 mark, with 3 matches to go.

The main thing I was wrong about was the positions of Nuke and Mel. Mel couldn’t quite make the big push he needed to, and Nuke could. So Mel’s for all practical purposes out of contention, and Nuke is one Mastachas slip away from claiming it himself. Losses to Mastachas and Brandy have slid Mastodon out of realistic contention with three matches to go. Brandy has proven she still belongs in Alpha, even if she’s no longer quite championship material. De’siree is still hanging on by her fingernails. And the two promotions from Beta still look like they’ll be relegated right back to it. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

Brandy McDonald, while still on the outside looking in, has slipped into what looks like a very interesting position in Alpha. Gatekeeper and litmus test. Nobody has yet beaten her twice, with three matches to go. She may no longer be a championship contender, but anyone who wants the belt has to go through her. Of her three remaining matches (Gross, Nuke, and De’siree), the match with Nuke looms large. Despite being out of things, she has one last chance to affect the title picture. That’s the Season 8 champ for you.

There isn’t much left to be said about Daniel Simmons. He wasn’t ready. He’s going back to Beta, probably dragging Gross with him thanks to that win. It will be very interesting to see how he deals with Christian Priest next season. But for now, he’s got nothing to wrestle for but pride.

De’siree Mitchell is hanging around in Alpha for one more season. It’s virtually guaranteed at this point. She has a win and a tiebreaker over Gross with three matches to go. Next season, with Blackfield in the mix, is probably her last in Alpha, though. She just doesn’t quite have what it takes. There’s nothing else to be said.

George Mastachas…the loss to Nuke hurts. But he’s still got the tiebreaker, and the easier schedule in Mel, Gross, and Simmons. The championship is still his to lose. Win out, and it’s his. Take a loss, and things get interesting. Once again, there’s nothing left to be said.

The Mastodon has nothing to be ashamed of. In fact, he’s not even quite out of the championship hunt. He’s got a match with Nuke coming up, and Mastachas could always slip. Being 7-4 was entirely unexpected at the start of the season, and even if  he doesn’t win the title this season has been a massive success for him. Next season ought to be very interesting.

Mel O’Hallister has to be a little frustrated. If he could have maintained his dominance over Nuke, broke De’siree’s over him, or both, he’d be sitting fairly pretty right now. With matches against Mastachas and Mastodon coming up (and Gross to wrap the season) coming up, he’d have had a real shot at the gold. Instead his title dreams are functionally done. Still. He’s proven he belongs in Alpha. Last season as not a fluke. And he can still play a role in the title hunt with his match against Mastachas. Next season, though, he has to worry about a Juggernaut. Oh, boy.

Nuclear Templeton is on the verge of something very unlikely. A repeat as League champion. He’s half a step back. So very, very close. He’s rattled off four straight wins to get here. Six, if we’re including before the season break. But he’s got a harder schedule than Mastachas. Simmons isn’t so bad, but that’s followed by his eternal rival Brandy and Mastodon to wrap things up. So, not only does Nuke have to handle his own challenging business, he has to pray for one slip from a man who’s looked as dominant as Nuke himself. Good luck, bud. You’re gonna need it.

Reverend Johnny Gross’s nightmare scenario has functionally come to pass. De’siree has a win and a tiebreaker over him with three matches to go. It is deeply unlikely that he will surpass her. So that means he’ll be relegated to Beta for the second time. This time, however, will be different. Yes, Simmons will be joining him. However, so will Christian Priest. After their war of words preceding Tag Team Turmoil and subsequent failure to meet in the tournament, I can’t be the only one salivating for these two to collide one on one. So, Johnny, it’s not all bad. Now is it?

So, continued predictions! They’re just a little bit different this time!

Predicted League Champion: Mastachas

Predicted Staying In Alpha: Nuke, Mastodon, Brandy, Mel, De’siree

Predicted Relegation: Gross, Simmons

Yep, that ought to do it. See y’all for the post season post mortem.

The one thing that makes this different from what I thought it would be is Wasserman’s win over Ouilette. Everything else more or less fell into place. Pulsar and Weathers are the jobbers. Norris came back a little. Nakamatsu’s doing fine. Blackfield’s dominating. Even Blood River has slipped a bit from his hot start with two straight losses going into the break. So I’m still doing pretty well, as far as predicting this division is going. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

I’m still all in on Blackfield and Nakamatsu only sticking around for a cup of coffee in Beta. Ouilette had a chance to spoil that, but he’s fallen behind and Nakamatu’s too consistent. Blood River and Billy Norris could still make a move, but they’re too erratic to properly predict where they’ll land. Wasserman’s going nowhere. Weathers and Pulsar are getting relegated. Join me again at the 3/4 mark, with three matches to go. It’ll be time for a reassessment.

Interestingly, my predictions were almost spot on. Only Ouilette and Blood River swapped positions. The surprise, however, is just how tight Beta is. It’s been arguably the most competitive division all season long. Blackfield is running away with the division crown, but the second promotion spot is wide open. Even Pulsar, a likely relegation target, has a shot at it with three matches remaining. That is wild stuff. 9-5 was on the outside looking in last season, but this season it’s the best possible result for the second slot. Again, wild. With all that said, the two in the lead for that second slot (Ouilette and Nakamatsu) square off this week, and catching the winner will be close to impossible. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

Angela Wasserman will be in Beta again next season. With three matches left against River, Norris, and Blackfield, she’d have to lose at least two and Pulsar/Weathers win at least two of theirs for her to be in danger. Press X to Doubt. Her path to promotion depends almost entirely on the result of Ouilette vs. Nakamatsu. If Yoshii wins, because he’s swept her she’d have to basically win out and hope he lost one of the other two. Considering her last opponent is Blackfield, this is deeply unlikely. Hoping for Yoshii to lose his last two is even more unlikely. A Ouilette win, on the other hand, would go to tiebreakers which I don’t track. She’d have to win against River+Norris and either hope tiebreakers went her way or Ouilette managed to lose to Weathers in Week 14. So…possible, but probably not, no. The odds are not in her favor.

Big Scott Weathers actually has a shot to avoid relegation by winning all three of his next matches against Pulsar, River, and Ouilette. He could also take two and hope for a tiebreaker to fall his way. He’s beaten Pulsar this season, so it’s not as impossible as it seems. Just merely improbable, as he’s lost to River and Ouilette already. Chalk him up for Gamma next season, in all likelihood.

Billy Norris is more or less in the same position as Wasserman, only without the trouble of being swept by Nakamatsu. He comes down to tiebreakers no matter who wins that match this week. Meanwhile, he’s got Blackfield this week, Wasserman the next, and wraps with Pulsar. Based on prior encounters this season, that’s a 0-3 schedule. Even if he gets those wins back from Wasserman and Pulsar, like Wasserman he’d be relying on tiebreakers with whoever the leader is for the second promotion slot. Though unlike Wasserman, he is at risk for falling into the first relegation slot. He has “lost to Pulsar” on his resume instead of “swept Pulsar”, so a loss to him to end the season could conceivable see Billy relegated instead of the high flyer. Norris has to take care of his business somewhere to avoid relegation.

Blood River is in both better and worse shape than Wasserman and Norris. Worse is that he’s already been swept by Pulsar and thus can’t avoid to lose more than the high flyer wins or he’ll get relegated. Better off in that he’s already fought Blackfied and handed him his one loss this season. Otherwise he’s actually the reverse of Wasserman, having been swept by Ouilette but not Nakamatsu (as that match is upcoming). His final three matches are Wasserman, Weathers, and Nakamatsu. With a Nakamatsu win, River can control his own fate heading into the final week of the season. With an Ouilette win he’s hoping for some help from Weathers.

Brian Blackfield has already won the division title. There is quite literally nothing to discuss here. He could forfeit all three of his remaining matches and it would change nothing for him. So let’s move on.

Jean-Paul Ouilette is facing feast or famine this week. Defeating Blackfield next week is not happening, so a loss this week to Nakamatsu completely dooms his promotion chances. 7-7, with a victory over Weathers in Week 14, will simply not be enough, especially with Nakamatsu having swept him. With that said, he can theoretically be relegated, but it’s unlikely. Losses to Nakamatsu and Blackfield and 2 wins each from Pulsar and Weathers would have Ouilette fighting for his Beta career in that match vs. Weathers in Week 14. I find this result deeply unlikely, however. So he ought to be fine if he can’t promote.

Pulsar, believe it or not, still has a chance at the second promotion slot. However, the dominos would have to fall just right, and he’d have to win against Weathers (lost to him last time), Nakamatsu (lost to him last time), and Norris (beat him last time). The dominos would be as follows: Nakamatsu. Win vs. Ouilette, loss vs Pulsar, loss vs River. Ouilette: loss vs Nakamatsu, loss vs Blackfield, and vs Weathers is more complicated. A win and Pulsar depends on tiebreakers. A loss and he doesn’t. wasserman needs to lose all three matches, since she swept him. Blood River just needs to lose once while Pulsar wins all three, as Pulsar swept him. And it doesn’t matter what Norris does, as long as Pulsar beats him in Week 14. Is this going to happen? Haha, no. But it’s the path necessary. The path for Pulsar to avoid relegation, thankfully, is much simpler. Two options. Beat Weathers or Nakamatsu, and then beat Norris. Or beat one of them and hope Wasserman beats Norris, and then lose to Norris faster than he beat him. A tiebreaker relegation avoidance. There’s other paths if Norris catches fire, but this one’s easiest for Pulsar to pull off.

Yoshii Nakamatsu also needs to win this week if he wants to be promoted. He’s lost to Blackfield already, but he’s got Blood River (who he’s already lost to this season) waiting at the end o the season. With River only one loss behind him at the moment, a loss in that match would put River over him on tiebreakers. Billy Norris has already swept him, so he’s got to stay ahead of that guy, too. Wasserman isn’t an issue, as he’s already swept her and she’s that one match behind. His relegation scenarios require genuine heroics from Pulsar (he’s swept Weathers, so that’s over) while he loses all three matches. Deeply unlikely, especially as he’ll control some of that by facing Pulsar next week. So. Ouilette. Pulsar. River. It’s doable.

So, continued predictions! They’re just a little bit different this time!

Predicted Promotions: Blackfield (divison champion), Nakamatsu

Predicted Staying In Beta: Ouilette, River, Wasserman, Pulsar

Predicted Relegated To Gamma: Norris, Weathers

Hear me out on the relegations. I already threw out how Pulsar can avoid relegation, and it’s piss easy. All that has to happen is that Pulsar beats Weathers this week and/or Wasserman beats Norris next week. Then suddenly the Weak 14 match between Norris and Pulsar is about who gets relegated. Norris has to win that faster than he lost to Pulsar back in Week 1. If Pulsar can’t buy a win this week and next and Norris can, well it’s all over for Pulsar. But that’s what I think will happen. Final week, Norris can’t hack it, Pulsar stays by the skin of his teeth.

Gamma Division

Predicted Top Group: Priest, Molina, Rodriguez

Predicted Middle Group: Stevens, Diamond, Rose, Gibson

Predicted Bottom Group: Clay

Actual Top Group: Priest (10-1), Rose (7-4), Molina (6-5), Rodriguez (6-5)

Actual Middle Group: Stevens (5-6),

Actual Bottom Group: Gibson (4-7), Clay (3-8), Diamond (3-8)

Quote

The big story here is Terrance Stevens, who has completely refused to be a jobber. He’s got more wins here at the halfway point than he did all last season. He’s worked his way past Molina and Diego into promotion contention it is genuinely remarkable. The other story is Gibson rallying his way out of being total relegation bait. Now, the second relegation slot is entirely up in the air. As is the second promotion spot, with Priest dominating the division for the top spot. Gamma’s been arguable as competitive as Alpha, which is saying something. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

Yes, that is correct. I currently do not have a pick for the second relegation spot. Gamma got wildly competitive out of nowhere. I had that spot picked out for Stevens, but he’s defied it. Which puts Rose, Gibson, and Diamond in the frame at the break. Not that even Molina & Rodriguez are out of it. I do think Stevens will regress, but I also think he’s fought his way out of being relegation bait barring a truly horrific second half. We will return to reassess things at the 3/4 mark, and there ought to be one or two fighting over that second relegation spot, as well as a clearer picture on the second promotion spot.

Welp, Stevens has fallen back. Gibson is still in danger. Priest is still dominating, and Indigo Rose is making a push with four straight wins. She’s in the current second promotion slot, but still has Diego and Priest to deal with in the home stretch. Molina and Diego are having some trouble, and face off this week to determine probably who’s pushing on towards promotion and who has no realistic shot. Clay is still bad, and Diamond’s season has become a tragedy. Gamma’s still pretty competitive, but the wheat is separating from the chaff at last. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

For Christian Priest there’s nothing left to say. At 10-1 with three to go, he’s going to Beta next season, and the division title is probably his, too. He’s had a fantastic season, and that’s all there is to be said here.

Diamond, however, is in deep trouble. She’s lost four straight. Five if we’re counting before the season break. Her season has come entirely off the rails, and she now sits in last place in the division. She started as a dark horse to win promotion. It’s not good, folks. She does not have a path to promote. It’s over. Indigo Rose, at 7-4, swept her. She can’t catch up no matter what she does. So it becomes a matter of avoiding relegation. This isn’t impossible, but she’ll both need to handle her own business and get some help. Defeating Gibson this week and securing the sweep will go a long way towards doing so. Defeating Stevens and Molina, of course, would firmly secure her in Gamma for next season. Barring that, she just has to stay at least tied Gibson and ahead of Clay to avoid tiebreakers which I don’t track. This could prove challenging, considering Gibson vs. Clay happens next week. A Gibson win and Diamond loss to Stevens that week puts her right back in trouble and hoping she can beat Molina again while Stevens can defeat Gibson. She’s in a lot of trouble, as stated, but she can still get out of it.

It’s a measure of how close Gamma still is that Diego Rodriguez still technically has a path to relegation. He’d have to lose all three of his matches and either Clay (who is his last) would have to win his other two, and/or Diamond would have to win all three of hers. This isn’t as impossible as it sounds. He’s up against Molina this week, who beat him last time. Indigo Rose is next week, and she’s always a tough one for Diego. Clay beatin both Gibson and Rose back to back is deeply unlikely, but Diamond going over Gibson and Stevens isn’t quite so much. So it’s technically possible that Diego could walk into Week 14 needing a win to avoid being driven into relegation via tiebreakers. I don’t track them, so I don’t know who of the two has the advantage there. Promotion, however, is an easier calculation. Just win, baby. Losses to Molina this week or Rose next week would put him realistically out of the hunt. Down a match or two with a match or two remaining. So he’s in control of his own destiny this week and with a win will remain so. We will see what happens.

Erick Gibson is also in trouble. Not as much trouble as Diamond, but a lot of it. He’s got Rose, Clay, and Stevens to round out his season. The more of them he loses, the more likely he gets relegated. He can knock Clay back, yes, but he has no further control over what happens to Diamond. He technically has a shot at the second promotion slot, but a loss to Rose this week slams that door shut most firmly. With a win (and faster than his inital loss to her), he’ll have to hope for a Molina win vs Diego. Next week he’ll have to beat Clay and hope Rose beats Diego and Molina loses to Priest. Finally, he’ll have to beat Stevens and hope Rose loses to Priest and Diego loses to Clay. I don’t need to tell you how deeply unlikely this scenario is, but it’s there.

Indigo Rose is, perhaps unexpectedly, in the driver’s seat for securing the second promotion slot after a win over Molina. She’s got Gibson, Diego, and Priest to wrap things up, though, so she can’t relax. She does not have a path to relegation, her last win and last losses of Clay and Diamond having secured that. Her path to promotion is dependent on who wins Molina/Rodriguez this week. Molina has the tiebreaker over her, so she’d have to pull out one more win than he did over the remaining three weeks to secure promotion. They both have Priest to deal with, but Molina’s match type is arguably more favorable to him and Rose has Diego that week anyway, who is always a tough opponent for her. What really widens the gap is when Rose faces Priest in Week 14, Molina has…Diamond. So it’s safe to say Rose would rather have Diego win this week, so she can control her own destiny in their match the following week. Then again, maybe not. A loss would doom her. Either way, Rose needs to win this week against Gibson and next week against Diego to have any hope of staying ahead of the Molina/Diego match winner.

This season hasn’t quite gone how Lucas Molina wanted it to. His weaknesses against aggressive strikers and some speedy flyers has been exposed. He basically has the same unlikely path to relegation that Diego does, only instead of wrestling Clay in the last week, he’s already swept him and thus doesn’t have to worry. So, the only trouble is if Diamond wins this week and the next, and Lucas can’t buy a win in either week. The latter of which is technically possible, as he has Diego this week and Priest next week. His best path to promotion begins with a win this week against Diego. It’s possible for him to catch up if he takes a loss, but that would require both beating Priest and Diamond and then getting help from Rose (with Diego) and Priest (with Rose). Easier to win now and knock Diego back so he doesn’t have to lean on Rose winning. Then he’d have to beat Priest and Diamond to secure promotion free and clear, or beat one of them and get help from Priest with Rose to secure the tiebreaker victory.

Markus Clay, like Diamond, can no longer promote. That’s over. But like her, he and still avoid relegation by basically winning all three of his remaining matches. He can, technically, drop this week against Rose or Week 14 against Diego if he beats Gibson fast enough in Week 13, and Gibson loses two or all three of his remaining matches. He has the sweep over Stevens, too, so two Clay wins and two Stevens losses would also do the job. We will see what happens, especially because Gibson and Stevens face each other in Week 14. If Clay has a win or two going into that week, well…it’d be interesting, that’s for sure.

Terrance Stevens had a hot start, played spoiler, and has now fallen back a bit. He’s right in the middle, with paths to promote and relegate. On the slate for him is Priest, Diamond, and Gibson. Promotion wise, he’ll need a lot of help just to get to tiebreakers. First of all, if he wants to even potentially avoid tiebreakers he can’t lose another match. If he can beat Priest again, this is the easiest way. He basically need Molina and Diego to not win more than twice in three weeks and Rose only once at most. If he does lose a match, then he needs even more help. Chop a win off each of the leading trio’s totals. Two losses, and it’s over. He can’t promote. Deeply unlikely, yes? Avoiding relegation is, well, easier. Win twice, no matter the opponent (though beating Diamond in Week 13 will help more than the other two probably will), or win once and Diamond and/or Clay lose once and/or Gibson loses twice. So Stevens is also relatively safe. He, barring some CHAOS, ought to be Gamma next season.

So, continued predictions! They’re just a little bit different this time!

Predicted Promotions: Priest (division title winner), Molina

Predicted To Stay In Gamma: Diego, Rose, Stevens, Gibson

Predicted To Be Relegated To Delta: Diamond, Clay

I think Diamond shows a little more life, but that it’s not enough to save her at this point. See you all for the post season postmortem.

So! Promotion candidates have no surprises in them. Delight is winless and departing for Omega division. However, the middle of the pack and second relegation spot is completely up in the air. I expected Tornado and Onoo to be fighting over it, but a shock win from both of them have brought them on par with Stevens and Nocturne. It’s a whole mess. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

Truthfully, I think this is just a hope spot for Onoo and Tornado, and they’ll end up fighting over who’s getting the second relegation spot with Delight. Stevens has, for now, proven himself better than Nocturne one on one. And the top three might as well be interchangeable at this point. However, this is as it sits right now. Those four in the middle all have tied records and seven matches remaining with which to surprise me or not. So right now I don’t actually have a pick for the second relegation slot. Please tune in at the 3/4 mark, with three matches remaining. I ought to have one then.

Has much changed? Eh…Hida chases Dhillon, Dhillon chases Heartilly. Everyone else is basically irrelevant. Nocturne’s unlikely path to promotion is blocked by Dhillon sweeping her. Onoo’s is blocked by Hida sweeping him. Everyone else isn’t even that close. Stevens, being a PC, can’t be relegated. So Nocturne down to Delight is technically in danger. Well, Delight’s not so much in danger as already doomed. The top three and bottom one/two have been certain since the start. It’s where everyone else shakes out that’s been the question all season. With that said, let’s get to the character breakdowns.

Devil’s Delight has no path to promotion. Hell, she has no path to avoid relegation. She’s done. Three weeks, and she’s banished to Omega. There’s nothing else to be said.

El Tornado will probably be going with her. His remaining schedule is Nocturne (who only lost to him due to an unfavorable match type in my view), Monty Dhillon (who will destroy him), and Devil’s Delight (found the Week 14 opening match, heh). That’s 5-9 at best, and banished to Omega. He could best Nocturne and get to 6-8, but it wouldn’t help a lot. Stevens isn’t getting relegated because he’s a PC, and Onoo has to face Delight again and get his 6th win. Onoo’s swept Tornado this season, so the tiny flyer can’t escape the four wide relegation frame. It is what it is. Since Hida’s 8-3, he absolutely does not have a path to promotion.

Jun Onoo may not go down to Omega. Not because he can get out of the four wide GMPC frame (because he can’t), but because he’ll finish out of the bottom two most likely. He’ll take a win this week over Delight, and then find out where he stands in the division against Stevens before losing to Heartilly. 7-7/6-8 ought to be enough to remain above Tornado. Delight’s not even a consideration anymore.

Kichi Hida, however, isn’t nearly so finished. As a PC, she can’t be relegated to Omega, but that’s irrelevant because she doesn’t have a path to the bottom four, let alone the bottom two. Her path to promotion has a simple requirement this week, besides defeating Scott Stevens. Heartilly must defeat Dhillon. Dhillon wins, Hida has no path to promotion (due to being swept by Heartilly) without 1) Dhillon somehow losing to Tornado, or 2) Heartilly somehow losing to Devil’s Delight or Jun Onoo, both of which are deeply unlikely. So, Heartilly over Dhillon. She beats both Stevens and Nocturne. Then, in Week 14, she controls her own destiny vs Dhillon. Win and promote. Lose and, well, don’t.

Lance Heartilly has all but secured his promotion. The division title is another matter. A win this week and it’s his. A loss and he has to hope Hida can defeat Monty in Week 14. That’s it. He’s not losing to Delight or Onoo, for heaven’s sake.

Monty Dhillon is fighting for two things this week. The division title, and effectively boxing Hida out of any chance of promotion. Win, and both are virtually his to claim. Lose, and the Week 14 showdown with Hida becomes much more important. With a win this week, the match with Hida is just to avoid tiebreakers determining the division champion. With a loss, that match is for the second promotion slot. Assuming, of course, that Hida doesn’t lose to Stevens or Nocturne along the way. So there’s a lot on the line this week, yeah?

Welp, Nocturne did it again. She hung a second loss on Heartilly. His second loss all season. She’s still 5-6, has no path to promotion, and is in the GMPC frame for relegation to Omega. But you know, it’s something. She’s got Tornado this week, which is winnable. Kichi Hida next week, which is much less so, and finally Round 2 with Stevens. She lost that the first time, but who knows? So, like Onoo, she’ll be around 7-7/6-8, which will keep her out of the lowest part of the relegation frame. Hopefully she can hang around and give it another go next season.

Scott Stevens has not had the season he wanted. He’s probably grateful PCs can’t be relegated out of Delta at this point, otherwise he’d be in a lot of trouble. At any rate, this week he’s got Kichi Hida (ouch, sorry bud), followed by Jun Onoo (beat him the last time) and Nocturne (beat her the last time). So he’ll probably shake out around 6-8/5-9. That’s not so bad for a first run in Delta as a brawler/power type, honestly. Next season ought to see improvements. Look at Hida. She finished 6-8 last season. Turnarounds can be had.

So, continued predictions! They’re just a little bit different this time!

Predicted Promotions: Heartilly, Hida

Predicted Remaining In Delta: Dhillon, Nocturne, Onoo, Stevens

Predicted Relegated To Omega: Tornado, Delight

The promotion thing is purely me being a homer. I mean, Monty’s not gonna beat Heartilly, is he? So it’ll come down to that match in Week 14. And I wanna win it. Sorry, Monty. If it’s you who promotes I’m still a fan, just not over my own PCs. I’ll see you all for the post season post mortem.

CLINCH SIMULATION REPORTING

After Season Ten, Week Eleven: Three weeks remaining

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS REMAINING PER DIVISION: 4,096 (16 x 16 x 16)

AUTHOR’S NOTE: When I mention “tied for second” or “tied for seventh”, I mean any scenarios where whomever wins/loses the tiebreaker would be in second or seventh place in the standings, respectively. As an example: if the bottom of a division had 5-9, 5-9, 5-9, 1-13 for positions five through eight, all those 5-9 records would be considered “tied for seventh” and thus at risk of relegation depending on who lost the tiebreakers, even though the common parlance is “tied for fifth” as that’s the highest one could reach. On the upper half, a look of 9-5, 9-5, 9-5. 6-8 would have the top three positions technically “tied for second” in my outlooks below, even if whoever lost the tiebreakers would not be promoted. Keep this in mind especially for Delta Division, as the drop to Omega happens from fifth-place on down for GMPCs.

ALPHA DIVISION—LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

After the events of Week Eleven, and the four-star main event, the momentum shift has gone in favor of the reigning League Champion.  Nuclear Templeton saw his chances double from last week, as he is now the front-runner in projections with 2,502 out of 4,096 scenarios in which he at least ties for the best record. In the outright winner, no ties outlook, a little more than a quarter of the scenarios give him a second League Championship without resorting to tiebreakers. The man he defeated, George Mastachas, suffers only a minor setback and is now only slightly worse than Templeton in the odds department. What’s important to note, though, is that Mastachas holds the tiebreaker over Nuclear, so some of these numbers may be misleading. Another week at the minimum is needed to help narrow down the scenarios where tiebreakers come into play.

The only other person to improve their chances is the Season Eight Champion, Brandy McDonald. Her upset victory over Mastodon more than tripled her chances…to a robust 164 scenarios and only 2 outright. Despite his loss, O’Hallister still barely outpaces McDonald in terms of odds, and would need as much of a miracle to get back into true contention by Week Fourteen.

The author does wish to note that at present, eight scenarios exist that end with a five-way tie atop the Alpha Division at 8-6.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where at least tied for best record (Percentage for outright best record, no ties)

Nuclear Templeton: 31.732% (12.439%) > 61.084% (29.053%)

George Mastachas: 72.04% (44.092%) > 60.693% (26.758%)

The Mastodon: 28.339% (9.448%) > 22.021% (5.127%)

Mel O’Hallister: 9.247% (1.574%) > 4.834% (0.166%)

Brandy McDonald: 1.172% (0.006%) > 4.004% (0.019%)

ALPHA DIVISION--RELEGATION

Despite the win, Daniel Simmons’ chances for escaping the bottom two actually worsened slightly. There are only 64 scenarios existing where he escapes even being tied for seventh place. His victory over the Right Reverend may have cost Gross his chance at avoiding relegation, though. In almost 3,700 scenarios, Gross finishes tied for seventh or worse. His best hope at avoiding the drop for a second time is to pray for De’siree Mitchell’s collapse, as she is only one win ahead of him in the standings. He would need either O’Hallister or McDonald to lose all three of their remaining matches, win all three of his, and possibly get some help in order to bring either of the mid-table wrestlers into danger, which doesn’t seem likely. At this point it appears to be a three-person race to get to safety in sixth place.

Sixteen scenarios exist where fourth through seventh places tie at 6-8 and must go to tiebreakers to determine who drops into Beta. More likely, though, is a simple bottom two with no tiebreakers—over 71% of the scenarios end with the bottom two clearly marked for relegation.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios tied for seventh place and thus relegation eligible

Daniel Simmons: 98.242% > 98.438%

Reverend Johnny Gross: 64.331% > 90.234%

De’siree Mitchell: 64.331% > 38.672%

Brandy McDonald: 8.911% > 2.344%

Mel O’Hallister: 1.392% > 1.563%

The Mastodon: 0.024% > Unable to be relegated

Nuclear Templeton: 0.009% > Unable to be relegated

BETA DIVISION—PROMOTION TO ALPHA

Brian Blackfield had been assured of at least tying for the best record, but could have lost tiebreakers if it came to a three-way tie atop the division. His victory over Pulsar eliminates all doubt, as with a four-match lead and three weeks to go, he has clinched his third divisional title in as many seasons and will be moving to Alpha in Season Eleven.

As for who’s joining him? The field gained a little more disparity after Week Eleven, with only one person knocked out of contention, and two front-runners ahead of the rest of the field. Yoshii Nakamatsu and Jean-Paul Ouilette sport identical odds to finish at least tied for second place, with the final tiebreaker yet to be determined between them. There’s a large gap to the 5-6 crew, and even the current seventh-place holder, Pulsar, has a shot of advancing. Only Big Scott Weathers has been eliminated from the promotion hunt as even if he wins all of his remaining matches, he cannot catch either of the people at 6-5 since they still have their rematch coming up later this season, and so one of them will have at least 7 wins.

More than half of the remaining scenarios see a clear second-place finisher without the need of tiebreakers.

Crave chaos? Two scenarios still exist where second through seventh end up tied at 7-7 (a six-way tie!), and affect both promotion and relegation. Here’s how events must go down for this ultimate chaos to happen:

Week 12 Winners: Wassermann, Norris, Pulsar, Nakamatsu.

Week 13 Winners:  Norris, River, Pulsar. Blackfield/Ouilette can go either way but affects Week 14

Week 14 Winners: River, Pulsar, Wassermann. If Blackfield wins Week 13, Ouilette must win here. If Ouilette wins week 13, Weathers must win here.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where at least tied for second place and thus promotion eligible

Brian Blackfield: 100% > Clinched Division Title

Yoshii Nakamatsu: 36.163% > 55.859%

Jean-Paul Ouilette: 36.087% > 55.859%

Blood River: 36.234% > 17.480%

Angela Wassermann: 36.215% > 14.844%

Billy Norris: 10.504% > 14.355%

Pulsar: 9.375% > 2.637%

Big Scott Weathers: 2.24% > Eliminated from promotion contention

BETA DIVISION--RELEGATION

A loss at this point all but assures Weathers a no-expenses-paid trip to the lower half of The League, and the Gamma Division. Pulsar still stands as the most likely to join him (3,043 out of 4,096 scenarios), but those people who now sit at 5-6 each have 30+% odds of finishing tied for seventh place or lower. Of those, only Billy Norris sees this as an improvement, going from just worse than even odds to just over 30%. There’s still a lot of flux in this division, though most of it has now shifted to the lower end of the standings as everyone not nicknamed The Juggernaut can still end up being relegation bait at this point of the season.

I mentioned above that utter chaos can still happen with a six-way tie for second/seventh place. The odds though favor a clear “loser” in seventh place without tiebreakers, at just over half the scenarios remaining.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios tied for seventh place and thus relegation eligible

Big Scott Weathers: 87.421% > 95.703%

Pulsar: 56.064% > 74.292%

Billy Norris: 56.570% > 32.104%

Blood River: 22.882% > 30.542%

Angela Wassermann: 21.489% > 30.151%

Yoshii Nakamatsu: 22.681% > 7.690%

Jean-Paul Ouilette: 21.248% > 5.420%

GAMMA DIVISION—PROMOTION

Christian Priest has clinched promotion. At worst, he finishes 10-4. At best, the current third-place people can finish 9-5. Since Priest cannot drop below either third-place wrestler in the final standings, he’s secured his ticket to the Beta Division. Another win, and he’ll do so as the Gamma Division champion.

The week eleven fallout brings a positive swing in outlook for Indigo Rose, and a sharp downturn for Lucas Molina and Diego Rodriguez. Rose is now the favorite by far to finish in second (or even tied with Priest for the division lead!), in 3,164 of the 4,096 scenarios. Aside from Rose, only Rodriguez and Molina have over 1,000 scenarios in which they finish tied for second. The longest shot remaining is Erick Gibson. Exactly 4 scenarios out of 4,096 see him move to 7-7 and possibly be relevant for a promotion.

A five-way tie can still happen for second place, at 7-7. Those wanting chaos in the Gamma Division need to hope that this exact series (and ONLY this series) of events happens:

Week 12 Winners: Stevens, Gibson, Molina, Clay

Week 13 Winners: Priest, Rodriguez, Gibson, Stevens

Week 14 Winners: Diamond, Gibson, Priest, Clay.

Though it’s far more likely that second place is clear, whether tied with Priest at 10-4 or ahead of the third-place finisher by a match or more.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where at least tied for second place and thus promotion eligible

Christian Priest: 100% > clinched promotion

Indigo Rose: 46.313% > 77.246%

Diego Rodriguez: 46.216% > 32.715%

Lucas Molina: 46.313% > 28.072%

Terrance Stevens: 2.289% > 4.590%

Erick Gibson: 1.630% > 0.098%

Diamond: 0.049% > Eliminated from promotion contention

GAMMA DIVISION--RELEGATION

Week Eleven is a week that Diamond would like to have back. The loss to Markus Clay not only eliminated any long-shot chances she had of winning promotion, it may have also doomed her to the Delta Division for Season Eleven. She finds herself with nearly-identical odds as Clay of finishing tied for seventh or worse. No one else in the division has at least a 50% chance of dropping, though one person is just under that mark. Unless either Diamond or Clay get on a hot streak to end the season, they’re the most likely to be going to Delta.

Not as much chaos available on the lower end of the division, though, as a four-way tie at 6-8 is the best that can be offered (64 out of 4,096 scenarios).

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios tied for seventh place and thus relegation eligible

Markus Clay: 95.410% > 89.453%

Diamond: 74.219% > 88.672%

Erick Gibson: 36.523% > 48.438%

Terrance Stevens: 35.449% > 14.844%

Diego Rodriguez: 1.184% > 1.074%

Lucas Molina: 1.099% > 0.977%

Indigo Rose: 0.824% > Cannot be relegated

DELTA DIVISION—PROMOTION

It’s officially come down to a three-person race to fill two spots. Right now, second-place is 9-2 (as is first place), meaning at worst second-place is a 9-5 record. The best that Jun Onoo or Nocturne can manage is 8-6. So it comes down to two PCs and a GMPC for the right to escape the Delta Division. Lance Heartilly’s chances took a minor dip, while Monty Dhillon’s and Kichi Hida’s improved just slightly. Hida is likely to need one more Heartilly loss that she can capitalize on in order to promote, but as of this moment it’s still likely to be Heartilly and Dhillon who move on.

Two-thirds of remaining scenarios make it clear who’s promoting without the need to determine a tiebreaker between the second and third position. The other third (1,312 scenarios) have the top three all finish tied with each other.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where at least tied for second place and thus promotion eligible

Lance Heartilly: 98.145% > 92.188%

Monty Dhillon: 83.203% > 87.500%

Kichi Hida: 42.676% > 52.344%

Jun Onoo: 2.490% > eliminated from promotion contention

Scott Stevens: 0.098% > eliminated from promotion contention

Nocturne: 0.085% > eliminated from promotion contention

DELTA DIVISION—RELEGATION

I’ve finally bit the bullet and put in my “clinch simulator” sheet a rough estimation for Delta relegations to Omega. It’s not perfect since it’s working off of fifth-place or worse, and does not account for Primary PCs being in that bottom half (who are exempt from relegation to Omega). But it’s better than nothing.

We all knew that Devil’s Delight was sure to be dropping to Omega. Being winless after Week Eleven was a sure sign of it. What I wasn’t expecting is that Jun Onoo, Nocturne, and El Tornado all have a shot at escaping the bottom half of the standings and thus being sent to Omega next season. Scott Stevens should consider himself lucky that he has an exemption clause in his contract that prevents him from dropping into Omega, otherwise he’d be the third-most-likely to drop a division. Most surprising of all, though, is that Kichi Hida, who is not eligible for demotion into Omega as she is listed as Eternal Phoenix’s primary character, could end up tied for fifth-worst record or worse in exactly 16 out of 4,096 scenarios (basically everything where she loses all three bouts remaining, and Onoo/Nocturne win all three of theirs, which would tie third through fifth at 8-6). I do not see that being a likely occurrence though.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where at least tied for fifth place and thus relegation eligible

Devil’s Delight: Has clinched relegation

El Tornado: 96.484%

Scott Stevens: Not eligible for relegation due to Primary PC status. (93.945% otherwise)

Jun Onoo: 75.586%

Nocturne: 74.023%

Kichi Hida: Not eligible for relegation due to Primary PC status. (0.391% otherwise)

Based off of events this morning, I am sorely tempted to convert Devil’s Delight into a parking meter maid and job her out. Freaking parasites ticketing me for legally and properly parking at my residence….

Rant aside, predictions.

ALPHA: Mastachas, Nuclear, Brandy, Mastodon. Top 3 do what needs to be done, and this sadly eliminates O’Hallister from contention…who was one of my favorites to win it this season.

BETA: Blackfield, Nakamatsu, Wassermann, Weathers. The Juggernaut cares not for your dreams of chaos.

GAMMA: Priest, Molina, Rose, Gibson. The race for second heats up as Priest locks in a division title.

DELTA: We, the fans…you mean that’s not allowed? Fine… Dhillon, Hida, Onoo, Nocturne. Because of division and popularity/OVR disparity that match is scheduled to run in the middle of the card. I may pull an executive decision and run it as the main event. We’ll see.

The moment I realised Nuclear was in the Match Of The Night I KNEW something bad had happened to his chances of winning The League again this year.  If it wasn't for him getting poked in the eye four times in the first minute (SURELY A DQ!) he would have won that.  Some very fine Italian gentlemen in some very fine Italian suits are going to have to pay some visits to some other.... gentlemen.

😕 But...Nuclear won that match. What'd I miss here?

EDIT FOR ADDITIONAL CONTENT:

In what I swear is a first for The League, I actually have training from all PCs in as of roughly ten minutes ago. So I plan to get an early start on running the show and a chance exists that it *MIGHT* be posted Friday since most of the usual predictors have already weighed in, too. I’m just saying there’s a chance…

EDIT 2:

All 16 matches have been run in a marathon 3.5-hour sitting. Only a 3* MOTN this week, but that got the nod by only a fifteen second margin. Some close matches and only a few 1 star bouts this week.

At work tomorrow I’m updating my clinch simulator since that’s the (technically) more powerful CPU I have available to me, and that’ll help me eyeball other ways for clinching to happen on either end of a division.

*Walks in, casually drops Week Twelve a day early, leaves.*

THE LEAGUE: SEASON TEN, WEEK TWELVE

DELTA DIVISION

BEVGy0x.jpg (5) Nocturne (5-6, OVR 422)

vs.

(6) El Tornado (4-7, OVR 444)* LTFF6jR.jpg

A perfectly average and acceptable opening contest, Nocturne let Tornado get a little too overzealous and overconfident, avoiding several of Tornado’s rope-assisted aerial moves. She even had Tornado’s Super Twister, a move not seen in The League in a while, well-scouted, and that was the difference in this one. As soon as she got Tornado facing her, she hit a seated face plant and immediately locked in the ankle lock. There was no table breaking there to save Tornado this time, as he had to tap before Nocturne ripped the foot off at the ankle. With two weeks remaining, Nocturne evens up her season record but has a tough task on the horizon in the form of Kichi Hida.

Nocturne (6-6) def. El Tornado (4-8) via Submission (Midnight Solstice) in 9:37.  Rating: **

Changes for Nocturne:  OVR + 3.94, XP + 484.62, no notable damage

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.15, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

m6kdW7F.jpg (4) Jun Onoo (5-6, OVR 471)*

vs.

(8) Devil's Delight (0-11, OVR 416) 54miFm6.jpg xJrKs53.jpg

From the opening bell, Onoo had to fight from his back foot, as Delight seemed to be unrelenting in her assault. It was an aggressive side of Delight we haven’t seen all season, and though Onoo needed fewer hits to get Delight in trouble, he had to deliver them in the rare openings she left him. By ten minutes in, Onoo had tried for a few lifting power moves, only for Delight to slip out of each of them, and eventually a short DDT led right into Purgatory’s End. Onoo was too far from the ropes, and Delight nearly pulled Onoo onto his side with how much pressure she was exerting that Onoo had to tap. In what can only be called a massive upset, Devil’s Delight finally gets her first win of the season, and she earned it without any outside interference!

Devil's Delight (1-11) def. Jun Onoo (5-7) via Submission (Purgatory’s End) in 11:06.  Rating: **

Changes for Devil's Delight:  OVR + 4.03, XP + 485.33, no notable damage

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.33, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

fTtB0pK.jpg fYy1oxq.jpg (7) Scott Stevens (4-7, OVR 418)

vs.

(3) Kichi Hida (8-3, OVR 458)* 4ZAKk1I.jpg

It was easy to see that Hida was absolutely determined to let nothing stop her this week, not with a shot at promotion still within reach. Scott Stevens found this out to his chagrin, as even with his father’s interference to prevent Eternal Violence, it only took Hida another minute to connect with the charging knee to put down Stevens in what could be loosely defined as a squash. Hida now looks to later tonight, to see how her fortunes will fare after the top two men in the Delta Division face off.

Kichi Hida (9-3) def. Scott Stevens (4-8) via Pinfall (Eternal Violence) in 7:49.  Rating: *

Changes for Kichi Hida:  OVR + 2.71, XP + 443.44, no notable damage

Changes for Scott Stevens:  OVR -0.83, XP + 88.69, no notable damage

BETA DIVISION

VfA2MW8.jpg (7) Pulsar (4-7, OVR 469)

vs.

(8) Big Scott Weathers (3-8, OVR 477)* OOiJTFx.jpg

It took Weathers a few minutes to actually get into the contest, as Pulsar kept him off-balance for most of the opening half. By the time that Weathers started getting any sort of meaningful offense in, it was all but over. Sure, Weathers nearly managed to get Pulsar into Blackout territory, but not after suffering a scare as Pulsar went up top, maybe looking for the Zodiac Implosion but got thrown off the ropes for his trouble. Pulsar would eventually pick up the sudden win with a slingshot guillotina, and due to a faster victory also claims the tiebreaker over Weathers. There’s still a few matches in the division to occur yet, but it would be incredibly difficult for Weathers to escape relegation at this point.

Pulsar (5-7) def. Big Scott Weathers (3-9) via Pinfall (slingshot guillotina) in 10:07.  Rating: **

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR + 3.97, XP + 630.31, minor damage to head

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.58, moderate damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

0rDaDU8.jpg (8) Diamond (3-8, OVR 470)

vs.

(6) Erick Gibson (4-7, OVR 484)* O63FjvG.jpg E5dgVEm.jpg

Coming in to this match, Diamond knew she would have to earn her way out of the basement of the Gamma Division. You wouldn’t have guessed that she knew, though, if you shut off the match at the four-minute mark after Gibson hit a Probationary Hearing. If you’d done that, you would have missed Diamond controlling the majority of the closing seven minutes before putting Gibson down with a top rope clothesline. It wasn’t fast enough to steal the individual tiebreaker from Gibson, but if Clay stumbles in his match coming up next, Diamond’s hopes of remaining in Gamma for Season Eleven remain alive!

Diamond (4-8) def. Erick Gibson (4-8) via Pinfall (top rope flying clothesline) in 11:20.  Rating: **

Changes for Diamond:  OVR + 4.04, XP + 558.26, minor damage to head

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.56, moderate damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

N0Y594C.jpg (7) Markus Clay (3-8, OVR 465)

vs.

(2) Indigo Rose (7-4, OVR 486)* 2X2r9qf.jpg

The pressure was on Rose here. Win, and force Priest to do likewise if he wanted to clinch the division. Lose, and watch the grasp you had on second place in the division go slipping away. For the first couple minutes, she seemed well aware of this. The problem was that Clay started to pick up the pace, and once that happened Rose had a very difficult time getting him slowed back down. Clay wouldn’t look back, nor would he let his foot off the pedal, as a rope-assisted senton was enough to keep Indigo Rose down for three and thereby award the Gamma Division to Christian Priest.

aOXlwtV.jpg (5) Angela Wassermann (5-6, OVR 469)

vs.

 (4) Blood River (5-6, OVR 496)* hAfQcot.jpg VZFWcYa.jpg

Bob Sinclair: Action in the heart of the Beta Division is up next, as Angela Wassermann and Blood River try to rise up a little bit in the quagmire that is the bulk of the Beta Division standings behind Brian Blackfield.

Frankie Garnett: A bit of a clash of styles here; River likes to utilize his speed while Wassermann’s a proponent of the ground and pound game to set up her cross arm breaker. I think River’s got this one, but it’ll be close and I would not be shocked at all if Wassermann takes this.

Bob Sinclair: With that, both wrestlers look ready to go—at least, I think River’s ready, it’s hard to tell with that mask—and we are underway!

Bob Sinclair: River taking a bit of a slower pace to start this match; that was not something I’d expected.

Frankie Garnett: Agreed. Then again, we should know to expect the unexpected from River given who and what he is…allegedly.

Bob Sinclair: Everyone watching knows this slower pace isn’t going to last; River’s eventually going to try to pick up the pace. The question is: will Wassermann be too worn down by then to stop him?

Bob Sinclair: River again looking to slow the pace down. Frankie, does this strike you as a good plan?

Frankie Garnett: On a quick thought, no. River’s strengths are his speed and his daredevil aerial assault. But if you look over the last few minutes, Wassermann seemed ready for him to amp up the pace. This could be a deliberate counter tactic since he had been in control for most of the slower portion of the match.

Bob Sinclair: That seems rather counter-intuitive, but I can’t find a single fault in anything you said there, Frankie. The big question is whether Wassermann will stay down long enough given this slower pace for River to go up top for either of his finishers.

Bob Sinclair: I’d like to believe Angela Wassermann has more self-control than that, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: I would venture Wassermann only has herself to blame, Bob. If she wasn’t being so aggressive in trying to take off River’s head with her knee, the ref would have been aware enough to see the submission earlier. This falls on her!

Bob Sinclair: The argument could be made either way, folks, but the record books will show that on this night, Blood River picks up the win in a very close contest!

vs.

(4) Diego Rodriguez (6-5, OVR 505) G4sbiHU.jpg

The fan in the author was looking forward to this match the most out of the entire card—spoilers, I’m a sucker for a good, technical showcase—and this match delivered on the promise with a Match of the Night contender. Back-and-forth through, Molina had an early advantage before Rodriguez evened things back up. Molina would get another advantage, but finding no joy as his heel hook did not lead to a submission victory. Rodriguez fought back again, his Prelude to Dissonance preceding an attempted Discordant Melody that Molina fought out of. Molina would trip up Rodriguez immediately afterwards, and get the Molina Bodylock applied. Despite being only a few inches away from the ropes, Rodriguez found little leverage to pull himself closer, and had to tap out. Molina takes advantage of the Rose loss to forcibly re-insert himself back into the discussion for promotion to the Beta Division!

Lucas Molina (7-5) def. Diego Rodriguez (6-6) via Submission (Molina Bodylock) in 13:33.  Rating: ***

ALPHA DIVISION

NSa1kkC.jpg (3) The Mastodon (7-4, OVR 510)

vs.

(6) De'siree Mitchell (4-7, OVR 487)* p54rf5F.jpg

Another Match of the Night contender, Mitchell knew coming in that she had the advantage—after all, she had beaten Mastodon earlier in the season. That stopped neither one from throwing hands and just having a pure strong-style contest. Neither one back down, and it was Mitchell who blinked first due to the size and power advantage of Mastodon. A press powerslam only netted Mastodon two (and a very brief two at that), but when Mitchell tried to escape a follow-up powerbomb, it looked like she landed awkwardly on her left ankle. That momentary distraction was all Mastodon needed as he delivered a Rampage to put Mitchell down for three and split the season series.

The Mastodon (8-4) def. De'siree Mitchell (4-8) via Pinfall (Rampage) in 14:22.  Rating: ***

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR + 5.45, XP + 791.21, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

d7FEgH5.jpg (7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-8, OVR 495)*

vs.

(4) Brandy McDonald (6-5, OVR 514) gGexPKo.jpg

Ever since winning Tag Team Turmoil, Gross has not been able to get his singles game back on track. That continued to hold true here tonight as, while he made the match competitive, Gross was simply outclassed by the former League Champion. One shot at the Brandy with a Twist is all she needed to put Gross down for three, and in doing so all but assure Gross gets put down to Beta—he loses both individual tiebreakers to Simmons and Mitchell, and he’s not winning a three-way tiebreaker with a 50+ minute European Rules victory on his ledger. He’s going to need to win out and hope Mitchell loses both remaining matches, or else his second tenure in Alpha is also going to last for a single season.

Brandy McDonald (7-5) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (3-9) via Pinfall (Brandy with a Twist) in 13:46.  Rating: *

vs.

(3) Jean-Paul Ouilette (6-5, OVR 509) ZThYhej.jpg AAdEYyr.jpg

This was another Match of the Night contender, and the author is honestly surprised it didn’t go to four stars. The advantage coming in was with Nakamatsu—after all, he had fought to keep the number two spot in Gamma last season to even make it here, while Ouilette had no such track record. Though it was Ouilette who controlled the opening half of the match, keeping Nakaamtsu off his game. When the Frenchman went for Le Petit Mort, only for Nakamatsu to small package him for a one-count, that give Yoshii the spark he needed to get back into the contest. Nakamatsu would fend off a second Le Petit Mort, only for Cecile Corine to trip him up while going for a DEVASTATION Knee. That opening would directly lead to Le Petit Mort actually landing, and Ouilette steals a victory with the help of his dame du jour at ringside, putting him in the driver’s seat to move to Alpha along with The Juggernaut next season!

Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-5) def. Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-6) via Pinfall (Le Petit Mort) in 13:53.  Rating: ***

ALPHA DIVISION

zd1WDAc.jpg (8) Daniel Simmons (2-9, OVR 498)

vs.

(2) Nuclear Templeton (8-3, OVR 522)* FqeSGy6.jpg

Maven Deltzer was generous in giving this match two stars. From the casual viewer’s standpoint, this was a one-sided squash, plain and simple. Simmons never stood much of a chance with Templeton still looking to repeat as League Champion. Nuclear’s one attempt at a finisher, the Radiation Leak, went for naught, but a press powerslam did what the submission hold could not. Templeton forces the pressure on Mastachas to win or give up the Alpha Division lead, coming up a short while from now!

Nuclear Templeton (9-3) def. Daniel Simmons (2-10) via Pinfall (press powerslam) in 11:48.  Rating: **

vs.

(5) Terrance Stevens (5-6, OVR 472)* 6r4P9L8.jpg

The announcement was made as Priest made his way to the ring, anointing him the Gamma Division Champion for Season Ten. Knowing he had nothing to lose, Priest dominated the opening four minutes of the match, nearly locking in Martyrdom on Stevens. When Terrance escaped before it could be locked in, Priest seemed to just go on cruise control for a while, giving Stevens a bit of hope that he could pull off the upset. After five minutes of this, however, and having to endure a Canuckle Shuffle, Priest got tired of the games and promptly followed a powerbomb with Martyrdom to secure the submission victory and avenge his loss from earlier in the season.

wSRPoAi.jpg (5) Mel O'Hallister (6-5, OVR 520)

vs.

(1) George Mastachas (8-3, OVR 514)* FXyrc6C.jpg

With Nuclear winning earlier in the evening, the pressure was on Mastachas to duplicate the effort against O’Hallister. Unlike Nuclear’s opponent, O’Hallister was dangerous in his own right, if allowed a chance to build some momentum. Mastachas made sure he did everything he could to prevent O’Hallister from getting more than a couple of moves in at a time, even slowing the pace of the match considerably to be certain he minimized the number of mistakes he could make. The forethought paid dividends, as O’Hallister was never able to get Mastachas into Irish Clover territory, much less the Dream. It took five attempts before the Wrath of Zeus put an end to the proceedings, and Mastachas remains atop the Alpha Division with two weeks remaining, officially eliminating O’Hallister from championship contention.

George Mastachas (9-3) def. Mel O'Hallister (6-6) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 21:57.  Rating: **

vs.

(6) Billy Norris (5-6, OVR 501) ayWv1C3.jpg

The cooldown match before the main event to determine a leader in the Delta Division, this went basically how everyone envisioned it…again. Norris had just barely gotten Blackfield to the point where a Boomerang DDT might be in the works, only to walk into a Scotland Destroyer—I mean that literally; Norris was so concerned about the submission finisher that he forgot this was a thing. Twelve minutes and change later, exit The Juggernaut, stage left, with another victim under his belt.

9q89H6M.jpg (1) Lance Heartilly (9-2, OVR 441)*

vs.

 (2) Monty Dhillon (9-2, OVR 522) jI00Nyj.jpg

An executive decision was made the day before the taping by League Commissioner/owner Will Prydor to put this match on last. It’s not that often that the top two wrestlers in a division face each other this late in the season, with a division title and even possibly promotion at stake given Kichi Hida lurking in the wings. Prydor would say in the press phone call afterwards that he expected this to be the actual Match of the Night.

Instead, it turned into a squash.

You’re expecting the author to say that Heartilly did the squashing, right? Think again.

Monty Dhillon got into Lance Heartilly’s head before the bell even rang, as Dhillon came to the ring dressed up as a Canadian Mountie to observe Halloween. Heartilly took offense to this—as if facing a Canadian who excelled in the power game instead of pure technical wrestling wasn’t enough of an affront to him—and pie-faced Dhillon before the bell. That was really the last bit of hope that Lance had, as he seemed to be unable to take Dhillon seriously and landed only eight offensive maneuvers for the entire match to Dhillon’s seventeen. It took just five minutes for Dhillon to end things, with three usages of the Hammer Mill preceding a 1346, a stump piledriver, and then the Empire Bomb. Dhillon takes control of the Delta Division lead, and has the tiebreaker over Heartilly and (for the moment) Hida. His destiny is his to control, as we close in on two weeks of Season Ten remaining…

Monty Dhillon (10-2) def. Lance Heartilly (9-3) via Pinfall (Empire Bomb) in 5:04.  Rating: *

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 2.60, XP + 442.23, no notable damage

Changes for Lance Heartilly:  OVR -0.79, XP + 110.56, minor damage to head

CLINCH SIMULATION REPORTING

After Season Ten, Week Twelve: Two weeks remaining

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS REMAINING PER DIVISION: 256 (16 x 16)

With two weeks remaining, it’ll be easier to find scenarios that clinch or eliminate wrestlers, and so expect a little more detail. Most of the below calculations have taken tiebreakers into effect; in cases where the tiebreaker has not been fully resolved due to pending matches, the current holder is considered to win the ties.

ALPHA DIVISION—LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

Mel O’Hallister is officially eliminated from title contention, and the field is reduced to four—one favorite, two dark horses, and a long-shot.  For these, I have gone and figured out tiebreakers as best as I can, so what’s presented below is correct to the best of my abilities.

The odds-on favorite, when tiebreakers are considered, is George Mastachas. He wins the tiebreaker against Nuclear Templeton, effectively doubling his chances. Nuclear’s only hope for a repeat is to win outright with the best record and not be tied with anyone. Mastodon wins both individual tiebreakers on strength of victory time, and would also win the three-way break unless Nuclear somehow wins an Alpha Division match against Mastodon in just a touch over three minutes. I do not see that as likely, so Mastachas gets the three-way break scenarios.

The longshot is Brandy McDonald. Only four paths take her to a tie for the Championship, which would be a four-way tiebreaker with Templeton, Mastodon, and Mastachas. With these results…if the times work to her favor, she could actually win the Championship:

Week 13: Brandy must beat Nuclear in under 20:40. Simmons and Mastodon must also win.

Week 14: Brandy, O’Hallister, and Gross must all win. This would tie four people at 9-7, and Brandy would have the victory time tiebreaker as these four would all be 3-3 against each other in this scenario. This is the only way she can emerge as the Season Ten Champion.

So in the end, it sorts out to…

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios winning the League Championship (percentage with outright best record), factoring in tiebreakers

George Mastachas: 50.000% (25.000%)

Nuclear Templeton: 28.125% (28.125%(

The Mastodon: 20.313% (3.125%)

Brandy McDonald: 1.563% (0.000%)

ALPHA DIVISION--RELEGATION

Reverend Johnny Gross needs to win both his matches, De’siree Mitchell to lose both of hers, and Daniel Simmons to win in the final week of the season, to stave off relegation. Otherwise he loses tiebreakers to both Mitchell and Daniel Simmons individually and combined—that nearly hour-long European Rules match really did him no favors.

Simmons has a chance to avoid relegation—he needs Mitchell, Gross, and himself to end up tied at 4-10, or for him and Mitchell to finish at 4-10 and Gross to finish at 3-11. If that happens, he wins the head-to-head tiebreaker(s) and would avoid relegation. That’s his only hope of surviving.

If Mitchell wins either of her next two matches, she avoids relegation and dooms Gross and Simmons to another season in Beta. That simple.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios in which relegation occurs, accounting for tiebreakers:

Daniel Simmons: 98.242% > 98.438% > 90.625%

Reverend Johnny Gross: 64.331% > 90.234% > 84.375%

De’siree Mitchell: 64.331% > 38.672% > 9.375%

BETA DIVISION—PROMOTION TO ALPHA

With The Juggernaut clinching the division title last week, eyes now turn to the race for second place, and a spot in the Alpha Division. Jean-Paul Ouilette has a massive advantage when tiebreakers are factored in to everything. Not only does he have the most chances of finishing unopposed (no ties) for second, he also wins any tiebreaker with one person (either Blood River or Yoshii Nakamatsu). River and Nakamatsu’ chances number in the low double-digits out of 256 scenarios, and Billy Norris has even fewer than that. Pulsar and Angela Wassermann, despite being ahead of Norris in the division, cannot win tiebreakers to catapult themselves into second. The lone five-way-tie scenario for second place would see Ouilette win the tiebreaker.

For Norris to proceed into the Alpha Division, he needs the following to happen:

Week 13: Norris, Weathers, Blackfield, Pulsar all must win

Week 14: Weathers and Norris must win. (The other two matches do not matter.)

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where promotion is earned, accounting for tiebreakers:

Brian Blackfield: 100% > Clinched Division Title

Jean-Paul Ouilette: 36.087% > 55.859% > 84.766%

Yoshii Nakamatsu: 36.163% > 55.859% > 8.203%

Blood River: 36.234% > 17.480% > 6.250%

Billy Norris: 10.504% > 14.355% > 0.782%

BETA DIVISION--RELEGATION

Big Scott Weathers is guaranteed to tie at best for worst record in the division. A few scenarios exist where Weathers could eke out a tiebreaker in a four-way or five-way tie, as there’s a match or two that could affect those scenarios, but odds are that he’s not going to get any of those to happen and he’ll be dropping. His odds below simply note that he’s going to finish with at least a share of the worst record.

Outside of that, It’s nearly even odds between Pulsar and Billy Norris to drop. Norris is slightly more likely of the two. The only other person at risk is Angela Wassermann, and that’s only if she sits alone or is tied with Weathers only at the bottom of the division. Any other scenario where she’s tied, with three or more people tied for seventh, and she’s safe.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where wrestler is relegated, accounting for tiebreakers

Big Scott Weathers: 87.421% > 95.703% > 100.000%* (not clinched yet, could eke out a tiebreaker against Pulsar/Wassermann or Norris/Wassermann)

Billy Norris: 56.570% > 32.104% > 46.875% (slight variance possible due to pending matches)

Pulsar: 56.064% > 74.292% > 34.375% (slight variance possible due to pending matches)

Angela Wassermann: 21.489% > 30.151% > 18.750%

GAMMA DIVISION—PROMOTION

With Christian Priest clinching the Gamma Division crown, eyes turn to the dogfight for second, much like in the Beta Division. There are only three others who can promote despite four people who could tie for second. Lucas Molina is the clear frontrunner, given that he wins basically every tiebreaker against Rose and Rodriguez. Indigo Rose has less than half the chance that Molina has, and Diego Rodriguez is a longshot at best. Terrance Stevens, despite having two paths that lead to a four-way tie for second place, cannot promote in that scenario (Molina wins that tiebreaker). But overall, it’s going to take a collapse from Molina to keep him out of the Beta Division next season; he has the inside track going into the final weeks of the season.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where at least tied for second place and thus promotion eligible

Christian Priest: 100% > clinched promotion

Lucas Molina: 46.313% > 28.072% > 65.625%

Indigo Rose: 46.313% > 77.246% > 28.125%

Diego Rodriguez: 46.216% > 32.715% > 6.250%

Terrance Stevens: 2.289% > 4.590% > Eliminated from promotion contention

GAMMA DIVISION--RELEGATION

These figures are not absolute as several matches are pending that can affect the tiebreakers. But as things currently stand, it’s still Diamond and Markus Clay who are likely to drop. Diamond drops in 196 scenarios, Clay in 152, Erick Gibson in 104, Terrance Stevens in 56, and Diego Rodriguez in 4 (note that these are pending scenarios for Diego). Nothing is decided in the lower end of the Gamma Division, but the picture will be much clearer after next week’s action.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios tied for seventh place and thus relegation eligible

Diamond: 74.219% > 88.672% > 76.563%

Markus Clay: 95.410% > 89.453% > 59.375%

Erick Gibson: 36.523% > 48.438% > 40.625%

Terrance Stevens: 35.449% > 14.844% > 21.875%

Diego Rodriguez: 1.184% > 1.074% > 1.563%

DELTA DIVISION—PROMOTION

Monty Dhillon truly is in charge of his own fate. In all but eight scenarios, he at least finishes tied for second. (Those eight scenarios all feature him losing both matches, Heartilly and Hida winning both remaining matches. The other two matches each week can go either way, hence eight scenarios.)  Lance Heartilly and Kichi Hida now have almost identical chances of making it, without tiebreakers factored in.

The tiebreakers make things interesting. Dhillon has individual tiebreaker over Lance Heartilly. He also currently has it over Kichi Hida, and only loses that if Hida can beat him in under 3:53. Lance Heartilly has the individual tiebreaker over Hida and also currently the three-way tiebreaker. Dhillon claims the group tiebreaker if he beats Hida and doesn’t take 25 minutes to do it. Even if Lance wins the group breaker, Dhillon has it over Hida barring a blitz victory from Kichi. So the only way Dhillon does not promote is if he loses both matches, and both Heartilly and Hida win out (the eight scenarios I mention above). Hida needs to have either Heartilly or Dhillon fall to third place if she’s going to get into Gamma next season. (Note that if tiebreakers were not considered, Hida’s chances would be listed at 71.875%.)

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where at least tied for second place and thus promotion eligible

Monty Dhillon: 83.203% > 87.500% > 96.875% (accounts for tiebreakers)

Lance Heartilly: 98.145% > 92.188% > 75.000% (accounts for tiebreakers)

Kichi Hida: 42.676% > 52.344% > 28.125% (accounts for tiebreakers)

DELTA DIVISION—RELEGATION

El Tornado is now locked in to dropping into Omega. By and large, those dropping have already been decided—Delight and Tornado are locked, Onoo is likely, and Stevens is exempt. Nocturne still has a chance of dropping; she needs to finish ahead of Onoo outright since the Japanese big man holds the tiebreaker over her.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Percentage of scenarios where finishing in bottom half of Delta Division, accounting for tiebreakers:

Devil’s Delight: Has clinched relegation

El Tornado: 96.484% > Has clinched relegation

Scott Stevens: Not eligible for relegation due to Primary PC status. (90.625% otherwise)

Jun Onoo: 75.586% > 71.875%

Nocturne: 74.023% > 37.500%

WEEK THIRTEEN CARD

(An * denotes winner of the previous matchup this season)

ALPHA DIVISION

FIRST BLOOD MATCH: Nuclear Templeton

- Almost feels inevitable? Nuclear to almost come back from the brink of his season ending, just to find the form and steamroll his way to a back-to-back? Bring on the showdown in Week 14.

The Mastodon

- Still holding out hop here for Mastodon, but I'm fearing he's missed the window at this stage.

George Mastachas

Daniel Simmons

BETA DIVISION

Brian Blackfield

HARDCORE MATCH: Yoshii Nakamatsu

Blood River

Billy Norris

GAMMA DIVISION

EUROPEAN RULES MATCH: Christian Priest

- It's go time, been waiting all season for this and the stakes are high. For Molina? Win here + Diego beating Rose later on might been enough to secure his promotion, barring shenanigans. In saying that, Priest to celebrate his Divisional Title with big win over a rival and a 4-5 star banger.

Diego Rodriguez

- Traditional rivals facing off with their seasons on the line? Love it. I'll back Diego here just for the chaos for next week with potentially three contenders on 7-6 chasing the last spot.

Markus Clay

Diamond

- Two more weeks, two more wins. That's the path to stay clear of Delta. Get it done Diamond.

DELTA DIVISION

Monty Dhillon

- What a monster. Took Heartily on a return trip to Hammer Mills, dumped him on his head twice before Empire Bombing him through the ring in under 6 minutes. Good luck GAMMA next season, Main Event Monty's arrived 😅

Kichi Hida

- The Dhillon/Hida promotion dream lives! Just two more matches remain, though whilst still hopefully I'm pessimistic barring one hell of an upset.

Scott Stevens

- Bit of a quiet ending for the Scorpion, full expecting Stevens to finish these last two weeks strong and come out swing for Season 11.

Lance Heartilly

- Pressure's on here for Lance. Should be safe in all honestly but Devil's Delight showing signs of life late and winning without her manager to boot!
