The League, Redux: Seasons 8 and Beyond Game Thread

Recommended Posts

It’s Monday, time for predictions before I start running what matches I can! (Also, if you’re deciding not to train or spend XP this week, letting me know that early means I can run your match as well and *maybe* get the show up on Friday night again. Just saying… 😉)

ALPHA: Nuclear, O’Hallister, Mastachas, Simmons.

Mel plays the spoiler, and Simmons puts Mitchell into a must-win next week. Mastachas places himself at a “win and you’re the champ” scenario.

BETA: Blackfield, Nakamatsu, River, Norris.

Ouilette stumbles against The Juggernaut, which opens the field for Week 14 Chaos(tm) in the Beta Division.

GAMMA: Molina, Rose, Gibson, Stevens.

Commissioner’s Decree: the European Rules match is ending the show with Blackfield/Ouilette as the semi-main, algorithm be damned. But I see Molina stunning Priest, who eases up this week knowing a 4* match is almost guaranteed with him in Euro Rules. Rose keeps pace to force drama in Week 14, and Diamond gets doomed after Stevens finishes the sweep.

DELTA: Dhillon, Hida, Stevens, Heartilly.

Delta’s top 3 all win, much to the chagrin of the author who wants Nocturne to finish with a winning record. Those looking for Heartilly to stumble should look to next week instead, as Delight is still far too outclassed and still trying to find her wheels in the ring.

In the Nuclear Bunker, our heroic reigning League Champion is training hard once again, hitting things harder and with more precision than ever.... some of those things seem to be hung from the ceiling in bags, presumably some kind of punchbag but the weird noises coming from some of them as Nuclear stalks around them while his finely dressed friends engage in hushed conversations are... disconcerting.  Best not to think about it, or how Nuclear has gotten so proficient at choking people out either....

WEEK THIRTEEN CARD

ALPHA DIVISION

FIRST BLOOD MATCH: (4) Brandy McDonald (7-5, OVR 517) vs. (2) Nuclear Templeton (9-3, OVR 526)*

- I was probably picking Nuclear anyway, but the match type seals the deal on this pick

(3) The Mastodon (8-4, OVR 515) vs. (5) Mel O'Hallister (6-6, OVR 520)*

- Mastadon's {champion)ship has sailed, but Mel's still got something to prove

(7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-9, OVR 494) vs. (1) George Mastachas (9-3, OVR 519)*

(8) Daniel Simmons (2-10, OVR 498)* vs. (6) De'siree Mitchell (4-8, OVR 488)

- Keeping things messy at the bottom for maximum season-closing drama!

BETA DIVISION

(y-1) Brian Blackfield (11-1, OVR 565)* vs. (2) Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-5, OVR 515)

HARDCORE MATCH: (4) Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-6, OVR 504)* vs. (6) Pulsar (5-7, OVR 473)

(8) Big Scott Weathers (3-9, OVR 477) vs. (3) Blood River (6-6, OVR 501)*

(5) Angela Wassermann (5-7, OVR 470)* vs. (7) Billy Norris (5-7, OVR 501)

GAMMA DIVISION

EUROPEAN RULES MATCH: (y-1) Christian Priest (11-1, OVR 571)* vs. (2) Lucas Molina (7-5, OVR 472)

- Gotta go with my partner here, but damn, what a match this should be

(4) Diego Rodriguez (6-6, OVR 506)* vs. (3) Indigo Rose (7-5, OVR 486)

- History is on Diego's side, but Rose has the recent momentum. Tough, tough pick.

(6) Erick Gibson (4-8, OVR 484)* vs. (7) Markus Clay (4-8, OVR 469)

(5) Terrance Stevens (5-7, OVR 473)* vs. (8) Diamond (4-8, OVR 474)

DELTA DIVISION

(1) Monty Dhillon (10-2, OVR 524)* vs. (z-6) El Tornado (4-8, OVR 444)

(3) Kichi Hida (9-3, OVR 461)* vs. (4) Nocturne (6-6, OVR 426)

(7) Scott Stevens (4-8, OVR 418)* vs. (5) Jun Onoo (5-7, OVR 471)

(8) Devil's Delight (1-11, OVR 420) vs. (2) Lance Heartilly (9-3, OVR 440)*

- Unless Devil comes out in a meter maid costume to throw him off again...

One thing I've learned: High Fliers may not do great in the League, but they're always wild cards capable of taking out anyone at any time. So I expect one of Pulsar, Markus Clay, or even El Tornado to pull off an upset this week. Or not. *mumbles*stupidhighfliers*/mumble*

Won’t work here, she’s not Canadian and thus won’t offend Lance’s “proper Canadian wrestling” beliefs. 😛

EDIT FOR EXTRA CONTENT: I’ve been brewing up something for me to do for fun (spreadsheet/records related) during the off-season. Thank Derek for the inspiration—a rough estimation of overall placement within The League, factoring in victory times, defeat times, wins, and divisional weights.

ALPHA DIVISION

FIRST BLOOD MATCH: (4) Brandy McDonald (7-5, OVR 517) vs. (2) Nuclear Templeton (9-3, OVR 526)* [Career: Brandy McDonald, 3 – 2. McDonald is 0 – 1 in First Blood matches.]

In a normal match I'd say that Brandy had a shot, based on their history and her record this season. No, it's not great, but nobody has managed to sweep her yet, with two weeks remaining. But the match type is more favorable to Nuke and he seems to have roughtly surpassed her these days. So yanno.

(3) The Mastodon (8-4, OVR 515) vs. (5) Mel O'Hallister (6-6, OVR 520)* [Career: Mel O'Hallister, 2 - 1]

I'm just being a fanboy. Mel's scrappy, and he's done it before.

(7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-9, OVR 494) vs. (1) George Mastachas (9-3, OVR 519)* [Career: George Mastachas, 2 - 1]

Strength advantage vs Gross's Finisher. Stamina advantage because of Cardio Freak. Everything to fight for. Powerbomb? Boom. For Gross? Doom.

(8) Daniel Simmons (2-10, OVR 498)* vs. (6) De'siree Mitchell (4-8, OVR 488) [Career: Daniel Simmons, 1 - 0]

I think it's established by now that I don't think much of De'siree. Dan's just versatile enough to get the sweep, I think.

BETA DIVISION

(y-1) Brian Blackfield (11-1, OVR 565)* vs. (2) Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-5, OVR 515) [Career: Brian Blackfield, 1 - 0]

The Juggernaut cares not for anyone's dreams of promotion. He only cares for destruction.

HARDCORE MATCH: (4) Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-6, OVR 504)* vs. (6) Pulsar (5-7, OVR 473) [Career: Yoshii Nakamatsu, 1 – 0]

I also think it's been established by now that Yoshii is one of mah bois. And Pulsar is fast as hell, but has no other strengths.

(8) Big Scott Weathers (3-9, OVR 477) vs. (3) Blood River (6-6, OVR 501)* [Career: Blood River, 1 - 0]

Weathers to job his way to Gamma. River's got enough to beat him.

(5) Angela Wassermann (5-7, OVR 470)* vs. (7) Billy Norris (5-7, OVR 501) [Career: Billy Norris, 4 - 1]

Observe the record. That's the power of big time stamina difference. 225 vs over 400 with Cardio Freak 2. With Norris also being fast as hell and Wasserman's main ofensense consisting of strikes.

GAMMA DIVISION

EUROPEAN RULES MATCH: (y-1) Christian Priest (11-1, OVR 571)* vs. (2) Lucas Molina (7-5, OVR 472) [Career: Christian Priest, 2 – 1. Priest is 1-0 in European Rules matches.]

Yes, I'm a homer. But also I believe a longer match type favors the grapply types and it definitely favors those with higher stamina. Lucas can do this. And if Diego wins to, he's got promotion sewn up.

(4) Diego Rodriguez (6-6, OVR 506)* vs. (3) Indigo Rose (7-5, OVR 486) [Career: Diego Rodriguez, 2 - 1]

Functionally too close to call. So I go with the bigger, stronger one. Matters somewhat in the grappling arts.

(6) Erick Gibson (4-8, OVR 484)* vs. (7) Markus Clay (4-8, OVR 469) [Career: Erick Gibson, 1 - 0]

This is the best result for Diamond, I believe, so I'm picking it. Sue me, I don't want her to drop.

(5) Terrance Stevens (5-7, OVR 473)* vs. (8) Diamond (4-8, OVR 474) [Career: Terrance Stevens, 1 - 0]

On that subject. I think she can actually do this. She's got a slight speed advantage over Stevens's main offensive, which is his striking, and a sports entertainer doesn't really have any defensive answers for speedy types like Diamond. Only the superkick looms, as dangerous as ever.

DELTA DIVISION

(1) Monty Dhillon (10-2, OVR 524)* vs. (z-6) El Tornado (4-8, OVR 444) [Career: Monty Dhillon, 1 - 0]

If this takes more than ten minutes, I'm shocked.

(3) Kichi Hida (9-3, OVR 461)* vs. (4) Nocturne (6-6, OVR 426) [Career: Kichi Hida, 1 - 0]

Nocturne could make this interesting if Kichi isn't on her game, but ultimately she's gonna get her faced caved in like everyone else but Heartilly and Monty the once this season.

(7) Scott Stevens (4-8, OVR 418)* vs. (5) Jun Onoo (5-7, OVR 471) [Career: Scott Stevens, 1 - 0]

He did it once and it didn't look super hard. So sure, why not?

(8) Devil's Delight (1-11, OVR 420) vs. (2) Lance Heartilly (9-3, OVR 440)* [Career: Lance Heartilly, 1 - 0]

Delight is wrestling with a bit more fire lately, but this would literally be the upset of the season. Would I like to see it? Yes. Is it gonna happen? Hell no.

My loss is your gain this week. I was going to get a flu shot this morning but when I got there, they told me that I couldn't get one without filling out a consent form ahead of time...wheich I wasn't notified about so I could print it at work. (There is no printer at my residence.) So...back to the apartment and slaving away over a keyboard for the last two hours gives you the following!

THE LEAGUE: SEASON TEN, WEEK THIRTEEN

DELTA DIVISION

xJrKs53.jpg 54miFm6.jpg (8) Devil's Delight (1-11, OVR 420)

vs.

(2) Lance Heartilly (9-3, OVR 440)* 9q89H6M.jpg

If the match were scored on points and ended after three minutes, Delight may have won it. However, reality dictates otherwise, and it was around the seven-minute mark where things went completely out of her grasp. An implant DDT, a Heartilly Arm Breaker, a stump piledriver, and finally the Hellacious Leglock was the combination that did Delight in. Heartilly seemed to enjoy inflicting additional pain on the hapless Delight, who falls to 1-12 on the season and is probably looking forward to getting as far from Heartilly as she can.

Lance Heartilly (10-3) def. Devil's Delight (1-12) via Submission (Hellacious Leglock) in 10:22.  Rating: **

Changes for Lance Heartilly:  OVR + 3.99, XP + 484.98, no notable damage

Changes for Devil's Delight:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.24, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

fTtB0pK.jpg fYy1oxq.jpg (7) Scott Stevens (4-8, OVR 418)*

vs.

(5) Jun Onoo (5-7, OVR 471) m6kdW7F.jpg

One of Stevens’ few wins this season came at the expense of Jun Onoo in the first half of the season. For most of the opening half of this Match of the Night contender, it looked like history would repeat itself, as Stevens controlled the bulk of the opening minutes, However, Onoo had both Stevens’ Toxic Sting and his piledriver well-scouted, as Stevens failed to find purchase with either move on numerous occasions. A well-timed Cary Stevens distraction led to Stevens getting the advantage when he was in danger of falling to an IMPACT Driver, and after a few more attempts at the piledriver, including after successive powerbombs, Onoo connected with a backbreaker drop and simply put all of his weight on Stevens’ chest and shoulders, and Stevens could not get a shoulder up before three despite his best efforts. Onoo avenges his loss from earlier in the season, and puts the pressure on Nocturne as she’s up next against a promotion contender in Kichi Hida.

Jun Onoo (6-7) def. Scott Stevens (4-9) via Pinfall (over shoulder backbreaker drop) in 18:16.  Rating: ***

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR + 5.74, XP + 529.50, minor damage to head and body

Changes for Scott Stevens:  OVR + 0.80, XP + 105.90, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

4ZAKk1I.jpg (3) Kichi Hida (9-3, OVR 461)*

vs.

(4) Nocturne (6-6, OVR 426) BEVGy0x.jpg

Both women knew they needed a win for different reasons. For Hida, it was to keep a hope of promotion. For Nocturne, it was to keep in the upper half of the Delta Division and thus out of relegation back to Omega. It turned out that Nocturne was still too green, and Hida made her pay in a mostly one-sided affair. Hida moves to ten wins, and now looks for Tornado to pull a major upset later on if she has any realistic hope of escaping Delta at the end of the season.

Kichi Hida (10-3) def. Nocturne (6-7) via Pinfall (Eternal Violence) in 6:19.  Rating: *

Changes for Kichi Hida:  OVR + 2.65, XP + 442.78, no notable damage

Changes for Nocturne:  OVR -0.81, XP + 110.69, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

6r4P9L8.jpg (5) Terrance Stevens (5-7, OVR 473)*

vs.

(8) Diamond (4-8, OVR 474) 0rDaDU8.jpg

A must-win for Diamond, who simply did not come out of the starting blocks looking like it. It took her a few minutes to get any sort of offense going, but by that point, Stevens had sent her out of the ring, hit a piledriver on the protective mats, and barely missed a Meltdown while still at ringside. When the two got back in the ring, Diamond managed a couple paltry moves but swiftly ate a Meltdown. Three counts later, Diamond’s fate for Season Ten was sealed.

Terrance Stevens (6-7) def. Diamond (4-9) via Pinfall (Maple Leaf Meltdown) in 9:08.  Rating: **

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR + 3.92, XP + 557.04, no notable damage

Changes for Diamond:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.26, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

E5dgVEm.jpg O63FjvG.jpg (6) Erick Gibson (4-8, OVR 484)*

vs.

(7) Markus Clay (4-8, OVR 469) N0Y594C.jpg

While not a squash in the purest sense of the term—Clay got enough offense in that Gibson was a bit woozy for a minute or three—this was entirely under Gibson’s control. Strike after strike landed, Clay was never able to get up to speed, and Gibson landed the Terminable Offense for the victory, claiming the tiebreaker over Clay individually. With already claiming a potential three-way break between himself, Clay, and Diamond, Erick Gibson has secured a place in Gamma Division next season, and Markus Clay has been relegated!

Erick Gibson (5-8) def. Markus Clay (4-9) via Pinfall (Terminable Offense) in 7:39.  Rating: **

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR + 3.83, XP + 556.22, no notable damage

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.06, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

aOXlwtV.jpg (5) Angela Wassermann (5-7, OVR 470)*

vs.

 (7) Billy Norris (5-7, OVR 501) ayWv1C3.jpg

A Match of the Night contender, Wassermann let this one get away from her. She had Norris in trouble early, flirting with her arm breaker some nine minutes in, but was unable to find the right sequence to get it locked in. A further golden chance got squandered when Norris sent her to the outside with a high knee to the back, and then missing his follow-up top rope senton attempt. Even then, Wassermann let Norris fight back to some semblance of coherency. This would cost her as upon their return to the ring, Norris would hit a Boomerang DDT and immediately follow up with the Down Under Disaster, keeping Wassermann down for three. Wassermann now needs to be wary of another loss and falling into seventh next week, as Norris gives himself some much-needed breathing room.

Billy Norris (6-7) def. Angela Wassermann (5-8) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 14:40.  Rating: ***

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 5.48, XP + 685.91, minor damage to head

Changes for Angela Wassermann:  OVR + 0.76, XP + 171.48, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

zd1WDAc.jpg (8) Daniel Simmons (2-10, OVR 498)*

vs.

 (6) De'siree Mitchell (4-8, OVR 488) p54rf5F.jpg

Another Match of the Night contender, this one had Simmons fighting from behind for the majority of the bout. It wasn’t until about ten minutes in that he started to get some solid offense strung together, and once he got some momentum Mitchell had no solution for him. Simmons connected with the Working Man’s Dropkick twice, the second leading immediately into a Blue Collar Driver. Mitchell was not getting up after that, and Simmons completes the improbable season sweep, keeping alive for the moment his hopes of not being sent back to the Beta Division!

Daniel Simmons (3-10) def. De'siree Mitchell (4-9) via Pinfall (Blue Collar Driver) in 16:54.  Rating: ***

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR + 5.64, XP + 793.18, moderate damage to head

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR + 0.78, XP + 198.30, moderate damage to head

BETA DIVISION

OOiJTFx.jpg (8) Big Scott Weathers (3-9, OVR 477)

vs.

 (3) Blood River (6-6, OVR 501)* hAfQcot.jpg VZFWcYa.jpg

UPSET ALERT! As if the previous two matches weren’t upsets in their own rights, this one was a Match of the Night contender that saw River fall behind early, fight his way back into the contest, and draw even with Weathers around the nine-minute mark. An attempted slingshot legdrop went for naught, though, and Weathers would not look back after that, quickly battering River into position for his sleeper hold finisher, and the shock submission victory. With the loss, River will not be able to beat Ouilette’s record outright and since Ouilette has the tiebreaker, River is eliminated from promotion contention!

Big Scott Weathers (4-9) def. Blood River (6-7) via Submission (Welcome to Dreamland) in 11:48.  Rating: ***

Changes for Big Scott Weathers:  OVR + 5.27, XP + 683.98, minor damage to head

Changes for Blood River:  OVR + 0.73, XP + 170.99, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION HARDCORE MATCH

xHVnvxD.jpg (4) Yoshii Nakamatsu (6-6, OVR 504)*

vs.

(6) Pulsar (5-7, OVR 473) VfA2MW8.jpg

Nakamatsu needs a win and a Ouilette loss to keep his chances of promotion alive as, once again, Ouilette holds the tiebreaker. While this was a competitive bout, closer in physical results to a typical Match of the Night contender, something about these two just didn’t seem to click with the hardcore ruleset. It was even for the most part, but one power DDT too many from Nakamatsu spelled the difference. One of those was followed up by a DEVASTATION Knee, and when the pin attempt did not net three, Nakamatsu connected with an Emperor’s Fall. That did the trick, and Yoshii’s done his part. Now he needs Blackfield to do the same to have a chance next week of backing into the promotion to Alpha!

Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-6) def. Pulsar (5-8) via Pinfall (Emperor’s Fall) in 11:21.  Rating: **

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR + 4.04, XP + 631.08, no notable damage

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.77, minor damage to head

DELTA DIVISION

vz0qqDp.jpg (1) Monty Dhillon (10-2, OVR 524)*

vs.

(6) El Tornado (4-8, OVR 444) LTFF6jR.jpg

No tricks this week from Monty, as he stared down the masked luchador before the bell rang. Once it did, it was nearly over in three minutes, except that Tornado was able to avoid the Blockade Lock twice and an Empire Bomb once. It took Monty another three minutes before a 1346 led into a Livewire Lariat, and that into the Empire Bomb for the pinfall victory. The win puts him in control of his destiny next week. With any result other than losing to Hida in less than 3:53, Dhillon promotes to Gamma!

Monty Dhillon (11-2) def. El Tornado (4-9) via Pinfall (Empire Bomb) in 6:48.  Rating: **

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 3.79, XP + 483.26, no notable damage

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR -0.07, XP + 120.82, minor damage to head and body

GAMMA DIVISION

G4sbiHU.jpg (4) Diego Rodriguez (6-6, OVR 506)*

vs.

(3) Indigo Rose (7-5, OVR 486) 2X2r9qf.jpg

This fourth clash of technical wizards, in which Rodriguez leads the series by a 2-1 margin, was a must-win for Rose. A win and a Molina loss to Priest in the main event, and she was right back in control of the second promotion spot. As was to be expected of these two, this was a slower-paced, grinding encounter with neither grappler backing down from the other. With grappling skills basically equal between the two, the question would become which factor would be the decider, Rodriguez’s strength or Rose’s speed. The answer, at least on this night, lay with Rose and her ability to slip out of the larger Rodriguez’s holds. His Harmony of Dissonance went for naught, while it only took her two attempts at the Vite d’Indaco—albeit after a pair of variated DDTs—to get the hold locked in and force the submission. Rose now has to wait for the main event, and hope that the First Church of Wrestling delivers on her prayers, to see if she has a chance next week at promotion.

Indigo Rose (8-5) def. Diego Rodriguez (6-7) via Submission (Vite d’Indaco) in 16:05.  Rating: **

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR + 4.31, XP + 560.88, minor damage to head

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR -0.08, XP + 140.22, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION

d7FEgH5.jpg (7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-9, OVR 494)

vs.

 (1) George Mastachas (9-3, OVR 519)* FXyrc6C.jpg

This went about the way that everyone expected. Gross got enough offense in to get Mastachas winded a little bit, but by that time it was far, far too late. Mastachas continues the roll he’s been on, manhandling Gross en route to another pinfall victory by way of the Wrath of Zeus. Pressure’s on Nuclear Templeton now—a loss to Brandy later on, and Mastachas claims the League Championship! As for Reverend Gross…the loss means that, as he is unable to win any tiebreakers between himself and any combination of De’siree Mitchell and Daniel Simmons, he is the first person locked into relegation back to the Beta Division this season.

George Mastachas (10-3) def. Reverend Johnny Gross (3-10) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 17:43.  Rating: **

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR + 4.40, XP + 732.76, no notable damage

Changes for Reverend Johnny Gross:  OVR -0.08, XP + 183.19, minor damage to head and body

ALPHA DIVISION

NSa1kkC.jpg (3) The Mastodon (8-4, OVR 515)

vs.

 (5) Mel O'Hallister (6-6, OVR 520)* wSRPoAi.jpg

O’Hallister did everything in his power short of bringing a sword to the ring to face Mastodon, and it still was not enough on this night. Despite eating a great deal of offense, Mastodon found a way to power through, thwart O’Hallister’s plans, and notch his ninth win of the season with a lariat that nearly separated O’Hallister’s head from his body. Mastodon still has an outside chance at the League Championship, but he absolutely needs Templeton to lose or else he’s eliminated with one week remaining in the season.

The Mastodon (9-4) def. Mel O'Hallister (6-7) via Pinfall (Rampage) in 15:01.  Rating: **

Changes for The Mastodon:  OVR + 4.25, XP + 730.81, minor damage to head

Changes for Mel O'Hallister:  OVR -0.08, XP + 182.70, minor damage to head

ALPHA DIVISION FIRST BLOOD MATCH

gGexPKo.jpg (4) Brandy McDonald (7-5, OVR 517)

vs.

(2) Nuclear Templeton (9-3, OVR 526)* FqeSGy6.jpg

Pressure time for the reigning champion. A win, and he sees his hopes drawn out to Week Fourteen. A loss, and he’s out of contention. Standing in his way is the Season Eight League Champion, the always-dangerous Brandy McDonald. A very good match, and in the discussion for Match of the Night, McDonald had to come from behind to get Templeton to the point where he could be busted open. McDonald tried on several occasions to simply bash her way into drawing blood, to no avail. Frustrated, she even landed Brandy with a Twist and then tried to bust open Nuclear while he was still a bit woozy, still with no luck. Templeton finally regained his senses, realized what was happening, and proceeded to deliver a face-first powerbomb and then a DDT that busted open his opponent. Nuclear wins a hard-hitting, close contest, and the dream for a repeat remains alive heading into the final week of the season!

Nuclear Templeton (10-3) def. Brandy McDonald (7-6) via First Blood (DDT) in 15:20.  Rating: ***

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 5.78, XP + 791.96, minor damage to head

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR + 1.77, XP + 197.99, minor damage to head and body

BETA DIVISION

Lp89uMT.jpg (1) Brian Blackfield (11-1, OVR 565)*

vs.

(2) Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-5, OVR 515) ZThYhej.jpg AAdEYyr.jpg

If Ouilette can manage the improbable and knock off The Juggernaut, he clinches promotion. A fitting prize for managing to do what’s only been done three times in the past, right?

The opening eight minutes were largely controlled by Ouilette. In fact, he nearly had Blackfield pinned after a spinning elbow blow at 8:30, but Blackfield got a shoulder up at the last moment to avert the pin. (Behind the curtain speak: Blackfield’s OVR, as well as some others, is at the point where moves with less than a 30% chance to finish cannot beat them at all. The elbow blow in that instance had a 21.6% chance after all modifiers were factored in.) Nonplussed, Ouilette continued the assault, all the while conceding ground to Blackfield’s counterstrikes and dodges. On the third attempt, nearly seventeen minutes into the contest, Ouilette finally landed Le Petit Mort.

Enter The Juggernaut.

Two minutes later, Blackfield had the Highland’s Wrath locked in, center of the ring, and Ouilette simply passed out a few seconds later as Blackfield was exerting that much pressure due to the adrenaline rush. Blackfield had to fight from behind, and proved to the doubters that he’s got at least a fighting chance in the Alpha Division next season, as he stops Ouilette in the Match of the Night so far!

Brian Blackfield (12-1) def. Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-6) via Submission (Highland’s Wrath) in 19:06.  Rating: ***

Changes for Brian Blackfield:  OVR + 5.80, XP + 688.91, moderate damage to head, minor damage to body

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 0.80, XP + 172.23, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION EUROPEAN RULES MATCH

MZ2VDcB.jpg YICOeYe.jpg (1) Christian Priest (11-1, OVR 571)*

vs.

(2) Lucas Molina (7-5, OVR 472) LG3TCXf.jpg

Bob Sinclair: It’s main event time once again, folks, and oh boy, did Will Prydor save the best for last this week or what, Frankie?

Frankie Garnett: As much as my snap instinct is to disparage the man, as I was prone to doing before when he was wrestling here, Bob, he made the absolutely right call to put this one on last.

???: Oh, good, so I don’t have to smack you for talking trash about my husband!

There’s a beat of silence as the camera pans out to show former League analyst, color commentator, and podcast host Tori Montgomery sitting to the right of Frankie Garnett.

Bob Sinclair: Tori! A pleasant surprise! What brings you here?

Tori Montgomery: The complex answer would take longer than the match we’re about to see, Bob. The simple answer? I asked Will to keep an eye on the kids and came across the property. I may have retired from doing this full-time but the urge to stop in once in a while is still there.

Frankie Garnett: …you’ll have to excuse me for a bit, Tori. I’m still in a bit of shock.

Tori Montgomery: What, that I came back while you’re still here?

Frankie Garnett: That, and well…other things.

Bob Sinclair: Regardless, Tori, while we let Frankie get himself composed, give us your thoughts on our main event here.

Tori Montgomery: Well, history favors Christian Priest. He’s got a slight edge over Molina these past two seasons. While he may not have anything to truly wrestle for this season, clinching the division title already, I think he’s looking to make a statement to the folks in the Beta Division. I don’t see him resting on his laurels this week. I expect this to go…seven, maybe eight rounds and end in favor of Priest, two straight falls.

Frankie Garnett: That’s where we’ll disagree, Tori. Yes, I have Priest winning this one. But it’ll go to a third fall. Molina’s too technical for Priest to simply sweep under the carpet. A 2-1 final, going past the eighth round, and Molina’s going to do himself no favors by pushing too hard when he should just give it up and look for next week to make his bid for promotion.

Tori Montgomery: …Bob, did I just hear that correctly? Did Frankie actually provide meaningful commentary?

Bob Sinclair: Yes, Tori. That’s not the same Frankie you’re used to. You’ll see for yourself as we go. The bell sounds and the first round of this European Rules match is underway!

Bob Sinclair: You can already see what Molina’s plan is—try to wear down Priest’s stamina with sapping rest holds.

Tori Montgomery: I’m not sure he even knows what he’s doing, Bob. Why was he hugging Priest at the same time?

Frankie Garnett: Oh, you mean that Puerto Rican Pinch move?

Tori Montgomery: Yes, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: Molina described it to me when I asked him this week as a cross between a body scissors and a bearhug. Something he designed to further drain an opponent’s stamina as he applies pressure to the body in multiple ways.

Tori Montgomery: When you explain it like that, it makes sense. Wonder why Will never thought of that?

Frankie Garnett: Because he’s more focused on the legs for his ankle lock?

Tori Montgomery: …good point.

Bob Sinclair: It’s still far too early for a submission, as Molina is simply trying to wear down Priest in the final seconds of the second round…and there’s the bell to end the round.

Frankie Garnett: Tori, before we get too much farther into things, I have to apologize to you publicly.

Tori Montgomery: Say what?

Frankie Garnett: I know I wasn’t the most…sociable person to work with and I certainly made your life hell. Especially because of who you decided to marry eventually. But I’m seriously trying to turn a new leaf and with you coming out to surprise the folks at home by joining us, I figured I should finally man up and apologize for my past actions towards you, in a forum where everyone knows and can hold me accountable..

Tori Montgomery:

Bob Sinclair: Frankie, I can’t believe it.

Frankie Garnett: I was being serious!

Bob Sinclair: Not that. You actually rendered Tori speechless. I can’t recall ever seeing that happen.

Frankie Garnett: You can thank Lisa for that, too. She says “hi,” by the way.

Bob Sinclair: Three rounds deep into the contest now, and while I’d have to give the edge to Molina, Priest does not seem the worse for wear so far. He still looks ready to go another hour.

Frankie Garnett: He’s been fending off Molina moderately well, Bob. The experience coming in to play there. Tori, if you’re in the corner of Molina, how do you get him to kick it up a notch in the fourth?

Tori Montgomery: I wouldn’t. Stick with a working game plan. You can’t cut down a sequoia with a single chop of the axe; it takes a lot of time and effort. Molina’s putting in a good start, it’ll start to pay off sooner or later.

Frankie Garnett: I’d argue for the opposite. You know Priest is going to be good with his stamina for a while. Especially with getting to rest every five minutes. You’ve got him thinking you’re going to wear him down. Now’s the time to come in guns blazing, use your strikes and impact drops, and try to steal a fall before Priest can get momentum under him.

Bob Sinclair: Both fair points, but I’m sure Christian Priest will have something to say about this himself as the bell sounds to begin the fourth round!

Tori Montgomery: That’s the first round I’d give to Priest tonight. Took him a few rounds to adapt to Molina’s plan of attack, and perhaps my advice was the wrong set to give last round.

Frankie Garnett: I’m pretty sure the founder of the First Church of Wrestling was simply trying to set Molina up for this. He’s not just a hulking brute after all.

Bob Sinclair: Priest has closed the gap in this match after a decisive fourth round, and I think now things are going to get a bit more intense moving forward. We go to the fifth, and it looks like Molina’s coming out of the gate swinging!

Bob Sinclair: I’d call that another round for Priest, and despite being behind if you count round wins, I do believe he’s got the edge in this contest as we prepare for round six.

Frankie Garnett: Indeed, Bob. Molina has been on the back foot for most of the fifth round, and Priest’s hard-hitting offense has been doing a number on Molina!

Tori Montgomery: That’s the one main weakness of a grappler, guys. Eventually they need to impact their opponent and that’s hard to do with pure grappling. I’ve seen enough from Molina to know that he’s got some punching power, and while he might lose a brawl against Priest he can at least soften Priest up for his holds to be more effective.

Frankie Garnett: He knows the round’s about to end, the warning clapper went off right after Molina got it in…and there’s the bell!

Tori Montgomery: Priest looked ready to tap there, guys. I think Molina surprised him with that and if he had gotten it applied a few seconds earlier, that might have been the first fall.

Bob Sinclair: Priest still looks a little shaken up as Pastor Abe Richards talks to him in his corner. It’s got to be lurking in his mind now that Molina’s ready to capitalize.

Frankie Garnett: We’ll see if the good Pastor managed to get Priest focused, round seven is underway!

Tori Montgomery: Now we’ll see how Molina responds. Will having to tap out get stuck in his head or can he fight back and even this match up?

Frankie Garnett: If I know Molina half as well as I think I do, he’ll fight back, Tori. He’s a technical wrestler, Tori, he’s not going to let a tap out get to him that badly. You of all people should know that!

Bob Sinclair: Yes.

Tori Montgomery: And you’re telling me in that time we still have three large men who use lariats for a finisher?

Bob Sinclair: Priest is trying to claw his way to the ropes, but great positioning by Molina has Priest well away from them. There’s the tap, we are tied at a fall apiece with about a minute left in the eighth round!

Tori Montgomery: Now that looked painful. Might be another reason Molina was using that…what’d you call it, Frankie? The Puerto Rican Pinch?

Frankie Garnett: That’s it.

Tori Montgomery: Yeah. It’s like everything Molina does is designed to make it as painful as possible. I can see why he’s in contention to promote for the second time in two seasons.

Quote

(39:02) And Christian Priest gets sent to the canvas courtesy of a Puerto Rican Legsweep!

(39:22) Molina goes to the leg, and has his patented Heel Hook locked in on Molina!

(39:36) Molina got a near submission

(39:40) Priest slipped out the front of a Puerto Rican Legsweep

(39:46) Molina got a rope break to stop a Front Facelock

(39:49) Priest hit a Jab Punch

(39:52) Molina countered a Strong Forearm Strike Flurry with a Forearm Blow

(39:57) Priest blocked a San Juan Buster

(40:00) Priest broke a Knee Plant

Tori Montgomery: It could be argued that the bell saved Molina there. Another few seconds and Priest may have gotten another finisher in.

Frankie Garnett: Probably Judgement. Priest loves that release powerbomb of his, and that usually sends a statement when the lariat simply will not do!

Bob Sinclair: We go into the ninth round, and the next fall wins it. Will this be the deciding round?

Quote

(40:04) Priest broke a Front Facelock

(40:22) Priest hit a Strong Forearm Strike Flurry

(40:26) Priest hit a Ring Apron Headbutt

(40:29) Priest hit a Ring Apron Turnbuckle Smash

(40:33) Molina blocked a Ring Apron Punch

(40:42) Molina very easily avoided a Ring Apron Punch.

(40:47) Priest fought back as Molina tried to enter the ring

(40:53) Priest got back into the ring

(41:03) Priest hit a Ring Apron Slingshot

(41:10) Priest picked up Molina

(41:16) Lucas Molina just got Canonized by the right arm of Christian Priest!

Bob Sinclair: Priest wastes no times and goes right into the cover…one, two, three! This one is over, and Christian Priest wins a war against Lucas Molina to move to twelve wins on the season! What a match!

Frankie Garnett: More importantly, though, this means that Molina has fallen out of second place in the division, Bob. The promotion is Indigo Rose’s for the taking!

Tori Montgomery: Before we sign off, guys, word from your boss. He would like to invite the both of you to dinner tonight. Nothing is wrong, he just would like to extend the offer.

Bob Sinclair: I could be talked into that.

Frankie Garnett: I…I don’t know…

Tori Montgomery: Frankie, Will even mentioned in the text message that he’d like to talk to you about Lisa. Might be common ground given what we endured with our oldest, and could maybe get those two to meet each other?

Frankie Garnett: …Tori, that’s dirty pool, bringing my niece into it. (chuckle) All right, I’m in.

Bob Sinclair: And on that note, folks, that’ll wrap it up for us this week. Next week is the season finale before we break for the holidays! Two divisions still need champions, three divisions still need to figure out the second promotion spot, and three divisions still needs to sort out who’s being relegated. Plenty to keep an eye on next week, and we hope you’ll join us then for the Season Ten finale!

CLINCH SIMULATION REPORTING

After Season Ten, Week Thirteen: One week remaining

POSSIBLE SCENARIOS REMAINING PER DIVISION: 16

ALPHA DIVISION—LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP

This is George Mastachas’s championship to lose. He finishes with the bests record in 12 scenarios (4 solo). Of the 8 ties, four of them are a three-way tie which would go to Mastodon. The other ties are against Nuclear, and he holds the tiebreaker there. Any of the top three can leave Week Fourteen as League Champion, it’ll just make more moving parts for some than for others.

BY THE NUMBERS:

George Mastachas clinches League Championship with: Win. (8 scenarios, 50%)

Nuclear Templeton clinches League Championship with: Win (over Mastodon) AND Mastachas Loss (4 scenarios, 25%)

The Mastodon clinches League Championship with: Win (over Templeton) AND Mastachas Loss (4 scenarios, 25%)

ALPHA DIVISION--RELEGATION

Do not be thrown off by the standings. Yes, Reverend Johnny Gross is in seventh place in the standings. Yes, Daniel Simmons can still escape relegation while Gross can not. Yes, De’siree Mitchell can still be relegated. Two people are trying to occupy one spot to avoid dropping to Beta, and the favorite to keep their spot is Mitchell by a three-to-one margin. She just needs to win or avoid tying with Simmons if she does lose, since Simmons wins all of the tiebreakers in this group of three.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Reverend Johnny Gross: has clinched relegation.

Daniel Simmons: Clinches relegation with: Loss OR Mitchell Win (12 scenarios, 75%)

De’siree Mitchell: Clinches relegation with: Loss AND Simmons Win (4 scenarios, 25%)

BETA DIVISION—PROMOTION TO ALPHA

The discussion turns to second place in the division, and who can actually make it there. Four people can at least tie for second, but only two of them have a chance to promote due to tiebreakers—namely, the two men currently on seven wins. Ouilette’s is easier—win and he’s in, or lose and have Yoshii lose as well since Ouilette wins the tiebreaker. If he loses and Nakamatsu wins, Yoshii advances.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Brian Blackfield clinched Division Championship in Week Twelve

Jean-Paul Ouilette clinches promotion with: Win OR Loss + Nakamatsu Loss (12 scenarios, 75%)

Yoshii Nakamatsu clinches promotion with: Win AND Ouilette Loss (4 scenarios, 25%)

BETA DIVISION--RELEGATION

Three people trying to fit into two spaces at the bottom side of the division. While Blood River could also tie at 6-8 to end the season, he is safe from relegation via tiebreakers.  Only Billy Norris, Angela Wassermann, and Pulsar are at risk to join Big Scott Weathers in Gamma next season.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Big Scott Weathers has clinched relegation

Pulsar clinches relegation with: Loss (8 scenarios, 50%)

Angela Wassermann clinches relegation with: Loss AND Pulsar Win (4 scenarios, 25%)

Billy Norris clinches relegation with: Loss AND Wassermann Win (4 scenarios, 25%)

GAMMA DIVISION—PROMOTION

Once again, Indigo Rose is in control of her own destiny. A win, and she promotes to Beta. Of course, that’s easier said than done as she has the division champion, Christian Priest, across the ring from her. Lucas Molina faces Diamond, whom he lost to earlier this season. A win there, plus a Rose loss, and he backs into the Beta Division via victory time tiebreaker over Rose. Neither match is certain on the outcome despite the pundits’ beliefs, but on paper at least the advantage is with Indigo Rose.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Christian Priest clinched the Gamma Division title in Week Twelve.

Indigo Rose clinches promotion with: Win OR Molina Loss (12 scenarios, 75%)

Lucas Molina clinches promotion with: Win AND Rose Loss (4 scenarios, 25%)

GAMMA DIVISION--RELEGATION

Erick Gibson would win any three-way tie with Markus Clay and Diamond (combined 3-1 head-to-head). He also wins individual tiebreakers over Clay (season sweep) and Diamond (victory time), and so cannot drop to seventh place no matter what the combination of results turns out to be. This side of the division is mostly set, the only question is the finishing order of Diamond and Clay in the relegation spots. This is the easiest division to sort out, for which the author is thankful for the ease of it.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Diamond and Markus Clay both have clinched relegation.

DELTA DIVISION—PROMOTION

Monty Dhillon gets the unique honor of not having any sort of odds for his advancement listed. He not only needs to lose to Hida to drop out of the promotion spot, but he also needs to lose in under three minutes and fifty-three seconds. Seems implausible, right? But this is Kichi Hida we’re talking about. You know, the current record holder for fastest match under the Delta Division rules since they were adopted for Season Nine, at three minutes and eighteen seconds. It is entirely possible for her to pull off a blitz win and stun the world. Her best hope though is just to get the win no matter how long it takes and hope that Jun Onoo can stop Lance Heartilly. That combination would get her into Gamma. It’s going to hinge on the Dhillon/Hida match to determine who makes it into Gamma next season…

BY THE NUMBERS:

Monty Dhillon clinches promotion with: Win OR Loss to Hida in 3:54 or longer. (The latter would serve as the tiebreaker.)

Lance Heartilly clinches promotion with: Win OR Loss + Dhillon Win (12 scenarios, 75%)

Kichi Hida clinches promotion with: Win AND Heartilly Loss (4 scenarios, 25%)

DELTA DIVISION—RELEGATION

The only way Nocturne survives to wrestle another season in Delta is if she beats Stevens, and Onoo loses to Heartilly. Any other combination, and she’s relegated to Omega to try to earn her way back up.

BY THE NUMBERS:

Devil’s Delight and El Tornado have clinched relegation.

Scott Stevens, being a primary PC, is exempt from relegation (he would have clinched it otherwise).

Nocturne clinches relegation with: Loss OR Onoo win (12 scenarios, 75%)

Jun Onoo clinches relegation with: Loss AND Nocturne win (4 scenarios, 25%)

REGULAR SEASON FINALE

(An * denotes winner of the previous matchup this season)

ALPHA DIVISION

Daniel Simmons

The Mastodon

- If Mastodon's winning the title, going to need Simmons to do his part and more importantly defeat Nuclear. "To be the man, you gotta beat the man!"

Brandy McDonald

Mel O'Hallister

BETA DIVISION

Brian Blackfield

Blood River

Jean-Paul Ouilette

Pulsar

GAMMA DIVISION

Christian Priest

- Hopefully we'll Priest finishing strong and let Molina decide his destiny for next season, after their war last week.

Diego Rodriguez

Erick Gibson

Lucas Molina

- Can Molina avenge the shock loss to Diamond and potentially move to Beta? Or does Diamond have one more gift to hand out on her way to Delta?

DELTA DIVISION

Monty Dhillon

- I want both of these to move up, but sadly for Hida this is Monty's time. Just has to avoid a sub 4 minute disaster....

Lance Heartilly

Scott Stevens

- Looking forward to seeing how Stevens gears up for next season with potentially less Big/Super Heavyweights to contend with.

Devil's Delight

As a collective, the GMPCs of the Alpha Division have decided to let their stats ride and bank the points for end of the season. So GMPC matches (and some PC bouts) start tonight.  As usual, predictions first.

ALPHA: Mastachas, Nuclear, McDonald, O’Hallister. Mastachas wins the League Championship in the show’s main event after Nuclear puts himself in position in the semi-main.

BETA: Blackfield, River, Ouilette, Pulsar. The Frenchman manages to make it to Alpha, where I expect him to pull a Daniel Simmons next season.

GAMMA: Priest, Rodriguez, Gibson, Molina. Molina finds a way, and Rose bounces (literally) off of Priest to allow both PCs to make it to Beta.

DELTA: Hida*, Heartilly, Nocturne, Delight. The * notes that it’ll take Hida 6 minutes, which clinches the promotion for Dhillon. Nocturne manages to eke out a victory and stay in Delta, while Delight gets a last hurrah before going to Omega and reinventing herself.

A wise man once said that 10-4 may not be enough to promote out of Delta Division. We now know that, barring the unlikely result of Hida and Heartilly both losing, he was correct. In fact, we've now established that 11-3 may not be enough to promote!

Meanwhile in Beta, it's still possible that someone will promote with a 7-7 record. I guess that's what happens when you have Brian Blackfield in your division instead of Devil's Delight...

REGULAR SEASON FINALE

ALPHA DIVISION

(1) George Mastachas (10-3, OVR 523)* vs. (8) Daniel Simmons (3-10, OVR 504)

- Simmons will put up a fight, but Mastachas will complete the dream season

(3) The Mastodon (9-4, OVR 520)* vs. (2) Nuclear Templeton (10-3, OVR 532)

- Speaking of putting up a fight, it's been an impressive run for the Mastodon. Unfortunately it ends this week at the hands of God's most perfect killing machine.

(6) De'siree Mitchell (4-9, OVR 488) vs. (4) Brandy McDonald (7-6, OVR 519)*

(5) Mel O'Hallister (6-7, OVR 520)* vs. (x-7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-10, OVR 494)

BETA DIVISION

(6) Angela Wassermann (5-8, OVR 471) vs. (1) Brian Blackfield (12-1, OVR 571)*

(4) Blood River (6-7, OVR 502)* vs. (3) Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-6, OVR 508)

(z-8) Big Scott Weathers (4-9, OVR 482) vs. (2) Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-6, OVR 515)*

(5) Billy Norris (6-7, OVR 506) vs. (7) Pulsar (5-8, OVR 473)*

GAMMA DIVISION

(2) Indigo Rose (8-5, OVR 490) vs. (1) Christian Priest (12-1, OVR 578)*

(z-7) Markus Clay (4-9, OVR 469) vs. (4) Diego Rodriguez (6-7, OVR 506)*

(6) Erick Gibson (5-8, OVR 488)* vs. (5) Terrance Stevens (6-7, OVR 477)

(z-8) Diamond (4-9, OVR 474)* vs. (3) Lucas Molina (7-6, OVR 473)

- Diamond's season is already over, while Molina's still got a shot at getting out of Gamma before Monty arrives  😜

DELTA DIVISION

(1) Monty Dhillon (11-2, OVR 528)* vs. (3) Kichi Hida (10-3, OVR 464)

- The unstoppable force meets... another unstoppable force

(4) Jun Onoo (6-7, OVR 476) vs. (2) Lance Heartilly (10-3, OVR 444)*

(5) Nocturne (6-7, OVR 425) vs. (7) Scott Stevens (4-9, OVR 418)*

- Hate to pick against Stevens, but I just really want Nocturne to stick around

(z-6) El Tornado (4-9, OVR 444)* vs. (z-8) Devil's Delight (1-12, OVR 420)

- I kinda hope I'm wrong on this one, but I used my "sentimentality" pick for the week on the previous match

This is it, folks. Our last hurrah until January, barring updates from the Omega Division or League systems. It's been a hell of a run, and I'm glad to have shared it with you all. But let's get to the point, eh? Prediction time.

ALPHA DIVISION

(1) George Mastachas (10-3, OVR 523)* vs. (8) Daniel Simmons (3-10, OVR 504) [Career: George Mastachas, 1 - 0]

Simmons can make some noise here, but he doesn't have enough to actually beat Mastachas.

(3) The Mastodon (9-4, OVR 520)* vs. (2) Nuclear Templeton (10-3, OVR 532) [Career: Nuclear Templeton, 3 - 2]

Mastodon and Nuke are practically identical in terms of stats. They're differentiated by their Signatures, Finishers, and Traits. Nuke's are decisively better.

(6) De'siree Mitchell (4-9, OVR 488) vs. (4) Brandy McDonald (7-6, OVR 519)* [Career: Brandy McDonald, 4 - 1]

Brandy is more or less De'siree's kryptonite, as their record shows.

(5) Mel O'Hallister (6-7, OVR 520)* vs. (x-7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-10, OVR 494) [Career: Mel O'Hallister, 1 - 0]

Gross has nothing left to fight for except maybe pride. Mel, on the other hand, would very much like at least to finish without a losing record.

BETA DIVISION

(6) Angela Wassermann (5-8, OVR 471) vs. (1) Brian Blackfield (12-1, OVR 571)* [Career: Brian Blackfield, 1 - 0]

The Juggernaut doesn't care that you want to stay in Beta, Angela. Here's your L.

(4) Blood River (6-7, OVR 502)* vs. (3) Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-6, OVR 508) [Career: Blood River, 3 - 0]

As much as I want to believe in mah boi, he's got an awful track record against the speedy types.

(z-8) Big Scott Weathers (4-9, OVR 482) vs. (2) Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-6, OVR 515)* [Career: Jean-Paul Ouilette, 1 - 0]

Ouilette is ready for his Simmons'ing next season. Just kidding. He only thinks he is. It wouldn't shock me if he pulled a Tornado and finished with only a win to his name.

(5) Billy Norris (6-7, OVR 506) vs. (7) Pulsar (5-8, OVR 473)* [Career: Pulsar, 1 - 0]

Norris manages to save Wasserman's bacon. Or not. This one's honestly a coin flip. Norris has the advantages needed to win, but high flyers are so unpredictable in this game...

GAMMA DIVISION

(2) Indigo Rose (8-5, OVR 490) vs. (1) Christian Priest (12-1, OVR 578)* [Career: Christian Priest, 1 - 0]

This is why you needed to beat Clay, Rose. You can't win this match. Losing it will give Molina his opening, and he probably won't waste it.

(z-7) Markus Clay (4-9, OVR 469) vs. (4) Diego Rodriguez (6-7, OVR 506)* [Career: Diego Rodriguez, 1 - 0]

Just a bit of a lost season for poor Diego, but at least he can finish without a losing record.

(6) Erick Gibson (5-8, OVR 488)* vs. (5) Terrance Stevens (6-7, OVR 477) [Career: Erick Gibson, 1 - 0]

Total coin flip. Either of these men could beat the other on any given night.

(z-8) Diamond (4-9, OVR 474)* vs. (3) Lucas Molina (7-6, OVR 473) [Career: Diamond, 1 - 0]

C'mon Lucas, let's get it done right this time.

DELTA DIVISION

(1) Monty Dhillon (11-2, OVR 528)* vs. (3) Kichi Hida (10-3, OVR 464) [Career: Kichi Hida, 2 - 1]

Kichi can absolutely beat Monty...but not nearly fast enough, as he's got over 50 more health points than Onoo, and is more capable of fighting back besides. Well, bud, maybe somebody in a higher division than this will need to take a rest. Or maybe Heartilly will crap the bed and give Onoo a gift. Otherwise, the Queen of Delta will begin her reign of terror next January. After, of course, leaving Monty laying in the ring as a sort of Momento Mori kind of thing. Sigh. Kichi's gonna be so lonely.

(4) Jun Onoo (6-7, OVR 476) vs. (2) Lance Heartilly (10-3, OVR 444)* [Career: Lance Heartilly, 1 - 0]

I meant what I said up there. The only way Onoo wins here is if the same Heartilly who fought Monty the second time shows up. Talk about off his game...but Monty deserves his props also, for being able to take advantage and destroy him in just over 5. A most speedy demolition.

(5) Nocturne (6-7, OVR 425) vs. (7) Scott Stevens (4-9, OVR 418)* [Career: Scott Stevens, 1 - 0]

Like the rest of y'all, I'd like Nocturne to hang around for another season, too. Partly because of sentimentality, yes, but also because she's gonna dominate Omega, probably, and that's no fun for any PCs down there.

(z-6) El Tornado (4-9, OVR 444)* vs. (z-8) Devil's Delight (1-12, OVR 420) [Career: El Tornado, 1 - 0]

This is my fully sentimental pick. Delight's going away for a while. She'll have to retool kind of...everything. But her tale was good, her render was nice, and last season was a lovely underdog story. So maybe, one day, she'll be back. Until next time, get yourself a win to go, Devil's Delight.

Working with an outdated League spreadsheet to figure out the easiest way to present this proposed “power ranking” system and…there are a few surprises in this data so far. I’m still debating on if I want to actually give the formulae out when I actually present this, but other than that…I think there will be some room for discussion during the off-season.

(Who needs hot stove baseball when The League exists?)

Also, 15 out of 16 matches have been run for the week. The lone holdout is a PC match.

I mean... Nuclear is #1, right?  How could he possibly not be? 😛

I know this is a semi-joking post but I’ll give you a short, honest answer now and save more details for the effort posting in the off-season:

If a wrestler loses faster than an average match in the division constantly, and takes longer than the average match in said division to win, (s)he won’t be #1. Wins only factor so much before strength of victory/defeat become factors.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON TEN, WEEK FOURTEEN

DELTA DIVISION

LTFF6jR.jpg (z-6) El Tornado (4-9, OVR 444)*

vs.

 (z-8) Devil's Delight (1-12, OVR 420) 54miFm6.jpg xJrKs53.jpg

Both wrestlers had asked separately to wrestle this match before the audience arrived. Will Prydor denied the request, telling each of them that they should go out there and make certain the people remembered them after they had left for the Omega Division. The result was this Match of the Night contender right out of the gates, as Tornado fought back from a deep hole to eventually catch Delight with a springboard guillotina. However, Delight got out of the pin at two and a half, and fought her own way back into the contest. A Hellborne Rising and a DDT led into Purgatory’s End, and Tornado was too far from the ropes to get the break. He tapped out, and Delight at least ends her first tenure in The League on a high note, and now has to reinvent herself in Omega.

Devil's Delight (2-12) def. El Tornado (4-10) via Submission (Purgatory’s End) in 9:32.  Rating: ***

Changes for Devil's Delight:  OVR + 5.10, XP + 524.96, no notable damage

Changes for El Tornado:  OVR + 0.71, XP + 131.24, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

E5dgVEm.jpg O63FjvG.jpg (6) Erick Gibson (5-8, OVR 488)*

vs.

 (5) Terrance Stevens (6-7, OVR 477) 6r4P9L8.jpg

Gibson came in to this match motivated—rumor had it that he was looking to secure his position as shareholders were sensing weakness and a possible hostile takeover of his company was in the works. Terrance got overwhelmed in the opening minutes but somehow fought back, eventually sending both Gibson and himself outside at the nine-minute mark. Karen McClure promptly got involved to get her client back on the offensive, and it paid off in spades barely twenty seconds later, as Gibson knocked Stevens loopy with a Terminable Offense. Gibson rolled back into the ring, and was content to watch the referee count Stevens out to end this Match of the Night contender. A win’s a win in his book, and Terrance Stevens earns the dubious honor of being the first person in The League to be involved in two different countout finishes (he had won the other one he was involved in).

Erick Gibson (6-8) def. Terrance Stevens (6-8) via Countout (Terminable Offense) in 9:54.  Rating: ***

Changes for Erick Gibson:  OVR + 4.19, XP + 483.14, minor damage to head

Changes for Terrance Stevens:  OVR + 0.71, XP + 150.98, minor damage to head

GAMMA DIVISION

N0Y594C.jpg (z-7) Markus Clay (4-9, OVR 469)

vs.

 (4) Diego Rodriguez (6-7, OVR 506)* G4sbiHU.jpg

A rather pedestrian match after the opening contests on the card, this saw Diego control the match for the most part, and he put Clay away with a swinging neckbreaker that led directly to a Discordant Melody. Clay looked like he was phoning this match in, as Rodriguez continues to fuel speculation that next season will be the one he promotes into Beta.

Diego Rodriguez (7-7) def. Markus Clay (4-10) via Submission (Discordant Melody) in 9:19.  Rating: **

Changes for Diego Rodriguez:  OVR + 3.93, XP + 557.14, no notable damage

Changes for Markus Clay:  OVR -0.07, XP + 139.29, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION

ayWv1C3.jpg (5) Billy Norris (6-7, OVR 506)

vs.

 (7) Pulsar (5-8, OVR 473)* VfA2MW8.jpg

The only bit of drama in this one, after Pulsar at least made it look respectable, was the fact that the referee originally overturned a pinfall on Pulsar after seeing a foot under the bottom rope. This did not get Norris upset, as he simply took down Pulsar again and hit a second Down Under Disaster, hooking both legs on the cover and making sure the official got to three this time. Norris finishes the season with an even record, and Pulsar…well, he kind of makes the Wassermann/Blackfield match moot, as Pulsar has locked in a trip to the Gamma Division.

Billy Norris (7-7) def. Pulsar (5-9) via Pinfall (Down Under Disaster) in 10:19.  Rating: **

Changes for Billy Norris:  OVR + 3.98, XP + 630.44, no notable damage

Changes for Pulsar:  OVR -0.07, XP + 157.61, minor damage to head

BETA DIVISION STANDINGS, RELEGATION RACE:

6.  Angela Wassermann:  5-8, ATV 10:40 (AMR 2.385), OVR 470.80

z-7.  Pulsar:  5-9, ATV 11:52 (AMR 2.286), OVR 472.57

z-8.  Big Scott Weathers:  4-9, ATV 15:28 (AMR 2.462), OVR 482.48

Angela Wassermann, by virtue of sweeping the season series against Pulsar and also winning a potential three-way tie with Pulsar and Weathers, has avoided relegation. She still has a task ahead of her in the form of Brian Blackfield, but she will survive to wrestle in Beta in Season Eleven.

ALPHA DIVISION

wSRPoAi.jpg (5) Mel O'Hallister (6-7, OVR 520)*

vs.

(z-7) Reverend Johnny Gross (3-10, OVR 494) d7FEgH5.jpg

Bob Sinclair: We go to the Alpha Division for our next bout, as Mel O’Hallister tries to avoid a losing season. Standing across from him is the already-relegated Reverend Johnny Gross.

Frankie Garnett: Bob, surely I can’t be the only one already looking forward to next season, and the pair of matches between Gross and Christian Priest, can I?

Bob Sinclair: Frankie, I think a lot of people are in that boat after the words exchanged between the two prior to Tag Team Turmoil. But that’s in the future, let’s focus on the present. Who do you have winning this one?

Frankie Garnett: The smart answer would, naturally, be O’Hallister. He won earlier this season, after all. But I’m not entirely sold on that. Gross knows he’s back in Beta next season. I expect a return to Beta Division form for Gross…who, remember, went 11-3 and won the division last season. I see him taking this one, and entering Season Eleven with some momentum on his side as he prepares for the inevitable showdown.

Bob Sinclair: Kind of a bold pick, Frankie, given that O’Hallister looked early in this season to be a championship contender.

Frankie Garnett: If Mel had kept his earlier success going to this point, Bob, we’d be having a totally different discussion.

Bob Sinclair: Fair enough. Both men have signaled they’re ready to begin, and here’s the bell…we are under way in the Alpha Division!

Frankie Garnett: There’s one minor issue, Bob. It’s the same pace that O’Hallister likes, especially with that leg of his.

ALPHA DIVISION

p54rf5F.jpg (6) De'siree Mitchell (4-9, OVR 488)

vs.

(4) Brandy McDonald (7-6, OVR 519)* gGexPKo.jpg

De’siree Mitchell came into this match with a point to prove to all of the haters who called Brandy her kryptonite. McDonald got some offense in, but never enough to be too much of a threat as Mitchell stormed through this match, hitting the All Out Blitz on the first try and scoring the pinfall to salvage some dignity on the season…as well as ensure that she’s not dropping to Beta Division. Her victory locks Daniel Simmons in for relegation back to Beta.

De'siree Mitchell (5-9) def. Brandy McDonald (7-7) via Pinfall (All Out Blitz) in 13:20.  Rating: **

Changes for De'siree Mitchell:  OVR + 4.16, XP + 729.60, no notable damage

Changes for Brandy McDonald:  OVR -0.07, XP + 182.40, minor damage to head

z-8.  Daniel Simmons:  3-10, ATV 14:53, (AMR 2.231), OVR 503.84

There’s no way that Simmons can catch Mitchell. So the only thing that can change in the bottom two is Simmons winning the tiebreaker over Gross and finishing in seventh.

BETA DIVISION

VZFWcYa.jpg hAfQcot.jpg (4) Blood River (6-7, OVR 502)*

vs.

(3) Yoshii Nakamatsu (7-6, OVR 508) xHVnvxD.jpg

Another Match of the Night contender, Nakamatsu fought like he had something to prove, which was absolutely true. After all, he was winless against River in three attempts. This was a very close match that could have gone either way, as both men were busted open during the match, and both men were vulnerable to the other’s finishers. In the end though, River was unable to pull the trigger on The Offering. Nakamatsu had no such issues with the Emperor’s Fall. Three counts later, Nakamatsu puts the pressure on Jean-Paul Ouilette to win if he wants to be promoted!

Yoshii Nakamatsu (8-6) def. Blood River (6-8) via Pinfall (Emperor’s Fall) in 13:43.  Rating: ***

Changes for Yoshii Nakamatsu:  OVR + 5.41, XP + 685.27, minor damage to head

3.  Jean-Paul Ouilette:  7-6, ATV 11:55 (AMR 2.538), OVR 515.30

Tiebreaker: Ouilette holds the tiebreaker via faster victory time (13:53 vs. 16:28).

Nakamatsu has done his part. Ouilette controls his fate now. A win, and he promotes. A loss, and it’s Nakamatsu who advances for the second season in a row.

aOXlwtV.jpg (6) Angela Wassermann (5-8, OVR 471)

vs.

 (y-1) Brian Blackfield (12-1, OVR 571)* Lp89uMT.jpg

A bit of a throwaway match before delving into more contests that have some meaning, since Pulsar locked up the second relegation spot earlier in the night. Wassermann got out to a rather large advantage in the first five minutes, but could not hold on to that over the following eight. Blackfield would bust Angela open with a stump piledriver and fail at hitting the Destroyer three times before simply locking on the Highland’s Wrath for the submission victory. The Juggernaut heads into the Alpha Division with only three losses to his name, and has to be considered one of the favorites to emerge as League Champion in the first season of 2024.

She stops mid-stride as the words reach her mind, and then pivots to see Will Prydor standing a few feet away.

Nocturne: I can’t help it. Biggest match of my young career so far.

Prydor nods at this.

Will Prydor: Just go out there and do your thing. You’ve held your own against me, and I’m about Stevens’ size. You can do this. I mean…hell, Dani, you’re one of two people who beat Lance Heartilly this season, and the only one to do it twice. That’s an accomplishment.

Nocturne: And it’ll mean nothing if I get sent back to Omega.

Will Prydor: Not true.

Nocturne’s head snaps up at this as she stares a question at her teacher.

Will Prydor: It will mean something, Dani. It means you took on a master technician and bested him. Beyond that…even if you get sent back to Omega, and have to run the gauntlet again…you’ve done it once. What more proof do you need that you can deal with any adversity that comes your way?

Nocturne remains silent at this, pondering his words.

Will Prydor: You’re putting too much pressure on yourself. I even told you that before the season began. That’s not a path to success. Trust me, I know, and I know that you know this. The next four or five months do not matter right now. Only the next twenty minutes. Deal with the afterwards after.

There is another pause, before Nocturne looks at him once more. Prydor nods.

Will Prydor: It’s your fight song, Dani. You know the words better than I do. But if ever there was a time to live by those words, it’s now.  "You might only have one match, but you can make an explosion." Go prove to them that you deserve to be here, that you are that explosion.

One last exhale, and Nocturne nods. The determination is clear on her face.

Nocturne: No. I’m going to do better than that, Teach. I’m going to rise.

As she turns to head towards the ring, The Aerie’s PA system starts to play Sixx:A.M.’s “Rise,” the theme that Prydor himself used at the end of his career, and the man smiles. It’s all in her hands now.

DELTA DIVISION

BEVGy0x.jpg (5) Nocturne (6-7, OVR 425)

vs.

(7) Scott Stevens (4-9, OVR 418)* fYy1oxq.jpg fTtB0pK.jpg

Nocturne’s main roster spot is at stake here; she needs to win and Heartilly to beat Onoo to keep her spot in the Delta Division next season. The pep talk she got from her teacher right before the match seemed to have little effect to start, as Stevens took an early advantage and threatened to run away with the contest. However, Nocturne showed shades of her teacher during his League tenure, enduring the punishment and slowly grinding her way back into the match. Stevens never got an attempt to go for his piledriver, looking instead to powerbomb Nocturne through the canvas. It took her a half-dozen tries but she finally got the Midnight Solstice applied, center of the ring, and Stevens was forced to tap out. Half of the equation in the lower end of the Delta Division is complete; will Onoo be able to do what only two people have done this season to stave off relegation?

Nocturne (7-7) def. Scott Stevens (4-10) via Submission (Midnight Solstice) in 14:33.  Rating: **

Changes for Nocturne:  OVR + 4.22, XP + 486.98, minor damage to head

Changes for Scott Stevens:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.75, minor damage to head

5.  Jun Onoo:  6-7, ATV 10:24 (AMR 2.077), OVR 476.25

Tiebreaker: Onoo holds the tiebreaker via faster victory time (8:00 vs. 12:33).

Nocturne has done her duty. It wasn’t pretty, and it was damn near a loss on an occasion or two, but she got the win she needed. It’s now up to Jun Onoo to match the feat against a decidedly tougher opponent in Lance Heartilly. Won’t have to wait long, either—that match is next!

DELTA DIVISION

m6kdW7F.jpg (4) Jun Onoo (6-7, OVR 476)

vs.

(2) Lance Heartilly (10-3, OVR 444)* 9q89H6M.jpg

Onoo had an opening flurry of offense at the bell, but his problem is that he winded himself too early by trying to bull-rush Heartilly into a pinning predicament. Heartilly utilized his excessive stamina reserves and simply outlasted Onoo, eventually applying his figure four and earning the submission victory, banishing Onoo to the Omega Division next season in what was otherwise a rather pedestrian contest!

Lance Heartilly (11-3) def. Jun Onoo (6-8) via Submission (Hellacious Leglock) in 11:08.  Rating: **

Changes for Lance Heartilly:  OVR + 4.03, XP + 485.34, no notable damage

Changes for Jun Onoo:  OVR -0.07, XP + 121.34, no notable damage

x-2.  Lance Heartilly:  11-3, ATV 10:16 (AMR 2.286), OVR 448.12

3.  Kichi Hida:  10-3, ATV 6:49 (AMR 1.846), OVR 463.55

Lance Heartilly has secured a spot in Gamma Division next season—he’s one and done in Delta and moving on. It’s still undecided who joins him though, though the smart money remains on Monty Dhillon.

Remaining Scenarios:

Dhillon beats Hida: Dhillon (12-2, division champion) and Heartilly (11-3) promote, Hida (10-4) does not.

Hida beats Dhillon in under 3:53: Heartilly wins the three-way tiebreaker and promotes (11-3, division champion). Hida wins the tiebreaker against Dhillon due to faster victory time and also promotes (11-3). Dhillon (11-3) remains in Delta.

Hida beats Dhillon in 3:53 or longer: Heartilly wins the three-way tiebreaker and promotes (11-3, division champion). Dhillon wins the tiebreaker against Hida due to faster victory time and also promotes (11-3). Hida (11-3) remains in Delta.

z-5.  Jun Onoo:  6-8, ATV 10:24 (AMR 2.071), OVR 476.18

No tiebreakers at play now! Nocturne manages a final-week Hail Mary and lives to fight in the Delta Division for another season. Onoo falls just short.

GAMMA DIVISION

0rDaDU8.jpg (z-8) Diamond (4-9, OVR 474)*

vs.

 (3) Lucas Molina (7-6, OVR 473) LG3TCXf.jpg

Moving on to the Gamma Division for the next to last time this season, Lucas Molina finds himself needing to beat Diamond, and then get some help from Christian Priest, to promote to Beta next season. Much like Nocturne did earlier tonight, Molina had to come from behind in this, as Diamond took an early advantage with her speed and striking. Where she erred, though, was looking to finish Molina with the Florentine. Lucas Molina seemed to take that personally, and made his smaller opponent pay for her hubris with multiple applications of the Puerto Rican Legsweep, the Puerto Rican Pinch, and finally a Greetings from San Juan chained into the Molina Bodylock. Diamond tapped before too long, still discombobulated from the assault from Molina, and he now turns his eyes to the match later between Priest and Indigo Rose, which will determine the second promotion spot into Beta!

Lucas Molina (8-6) def. Diamond (4-10) via Submission (Molina Bodylock) in 16:26.  Rating: **

Changes for Lucas Molina:  OVR + 4.33, XP + 561.07, minor damage to head

3.  Lucas Molina:  8-6, ATV 15:08, (AMR 1.929), OVR 477.37

Tiebreaker: Molina holds the tiebreaker via faster victory time (13:47 vs. 14:05).

Molina’s done what he can. It’s up to Rose to either deny him his spot, or fall to Priest and forfeit the promotion spot to Molina via tiebreakers.

BETA DIVISION

vs.

(2) Jean-Paul Ouilette (7-6, OVR 515)* ZThYhej.jpg AAdEYyr.jpg

Pressure’s on Ouilette here. A win, and he promotes to Alpha alongside Brian Blackfield. A loss, and it’s Yoshii Nakamatsu making the trip instead. Weathers put up a bigger fight than many expected, keeping Ouilette on the back foot for most of the match. The Frenchman would fight back, as seems to be the norm in most of these bouts, eventually putting Weathers at risk of Le Petit Mort. Except that Ouilette missed, and Weathers only got a two count out of the affair. Sensing an advantage, Weathers watched Ouilette get to his feet, and charged forward, looking for a Mafia Kick…and immediately fell face-first on the mat, as he was tripped by Cecile Corine. Barely three seconds later, Ouilette landed a desperate Le Petit Mort, and hooked the near leg. This got a count of three, and Ouilette owes his spot in the Alpha Division in Season Eleven to Cecile Corine!

Jean-Paul Ouilette (8-6) def. Big Scott Weathers (4-10) via Pinfall (Le Petit Mort) in 13:18.  Rating: **

Changes for Jean-Paul Ouilette:  OVR + 4.15, XP + 505.84, minor damage to head

3.  Yoshii Nakamatsu:  8-6, ATV 13:14 (AMR 2.143), OVR 513.50

By virtue of tiebreakers (faster victory time), Jean-Paul Ouilette ekes his way into promotion to the Alpha Division, while Yoshii Nakamatsu has to wait another season before possibly making it.

vz0qqDp.jpg (1) Monty Dhillon (11-2, OVR 528)*

vs.

(3) Kichi Hida (10-3, OVR 464) 4ZAKk1I.jpg

The final quartet of bouts of the card all have promotion or championship implications. We start in the Delta Division, and Kichi Hida’s deadline of three minutes, fifty-three seconds. Certainly doable. The problem is that Dhillon knew his best bet was to simply be aggressive from the start, and he had the size to back it up. As the clock passed four minutes, Dhillon had landed a Livewire Lariant, a 1346, and the Hammer Mill in succession, while Hida still had not managed any significant strikes. The following two minutes were of no help either, and Dhillon finished things with a huge Empire Bomb that Hida tried to fight her way to her feet after. However, it didn’t go the way she would have liked, and Dhillon made the cover to secure a spot in the Gamma Division, and to do so as the Delta Division champion!

Monty Dhillon (12-2) def. Kichi Hida (10-4) via Pinfall (Empire Bomb) in 6:08.  Rating: *

Changes for Monty Dhillon:  OVR + 2.65, XP + 442.70, no notable damage

Changes for Kichi Hida:  OVR -0.80, XP + 110.67, no notable damage

3.  Kichi Hida:  10-4, ATV 6:49 (AMR 1.786), OVR 462.75

Earlier in the season, Monty Dhillon said he needed to get out of Delta. He’s getting his wish, as he and Lance Heartilly move on to the Gamma Division. Kichi Hida instantly becomes the favorite to win the division championship next season and move, as a pair of smaller wrestlers in Clay and Diamond are arriving from Gamma.

vs.

(y-1) Christian Priest (12-1, OVR 578)* YICOeYe.jpg MZ2VDcB.jpg

Speaking of Gamma Division, it’s time to see who promotes out of it alongside Christian Priest. If Rose can do what only Terrance Stevens has managed to do this season, she will have earned her promotion to Beta. If she becomes the thirteenth victim of Priest’s Season Ten Crusade, it’s Molina who advances instead.

By three minutes in, it was pretty clear what was going to happen, and by the time a Judgement was rendered unto Rose, just past seven minutes in, it was confirmed. Rose never stood a chance this week. Priest cruises to a 13-1 Gamma Division record, setting the mark for best even Gamma record (remember, The Juggernaut went 12-2 in his Gamma campaign), and in doing so brings Lucas Molina along for the ride into the Beta Division!

Christian Priest (13-1) def. Indigo Rose (8-6) via Pinfall (Judgement) in 7:15.  Rating: *

Changes for Christian Priest:  OVR + 2.69, XP + 509.67, no notable damage

Changes for Indigo Rose:  OVR -0.82, XP + 127.42, minor damage to head

Tiebreaker: Molina holds the tiebreaker via faster victory time (13:47 vs. 14:05).

By a margin of eighteen seconds, Lucas Molina joins Christian Priest into ascending into the upper half of The League! Rose may not be a favorite to promote next season—not with Monty Dhillon coming, and a replacement technical wizard in Lance Heartilly—but this campaign should help her confidence moving forward.

ALPHA DIVISION

NSa1kkC.jpg (3) The Mastodon (9-4, OVR 520)*

vs.

(2) Nuclear Templeton (10-3, OVR 532) FqeSGy6.jpg

First half of our double main event. The winner of this match would have a shot at becoming League Champion pending the results of the actual main event. This matchup of Season Eight Tag Team Turmoil partners started this in the manner to which each is accustomed—that is to say, it started as a slugfest from the opening bell and did not let up for the first seven or eight minutes. Around that time, Templeton started to get an advantage, and only widened it over the next minute or two. When a Radiation Spike failed to land, Mastodon fought back himself, busting Nuclear open with a stump piledriver. The punishment he’d taken was enough to thwart a Cull the Weak, though, and Nuclear feigned an Armageddon Lariat, catching Mastodon out of position and opening him up for a Radiation Leak! Mastodon nearly made it to the ropes before finally passing out, and Templeton has done what he can. He’s now in the unenviable position of hoping Daniel Simmons can pull a major upset in order for Nuclear to repeat as League Champion!

Nuclear Templeton (11-3) def. The Mastodon (9-5) via Submission (Radiation Leak) in 19:05.  Rating: **

Changes for Nuclear Templeton:  OVR + 4.48, XP + 733.74, minor damage to head

Tiebreaker: Mastachas holds the tiebreaker due to a faster victory time (20:23 vs. 22:06)

Mastachas wins the title with a win. Otherwise, Nuclear repeats. We’ll find out now, as the final match of the season is set to begin!

ALPHA DIVISION

FXyrc6C.jpg (1) George Mastachas (10-3, OVR 523)*

vs.

(z-8) Daniel Simmons (3-10, OVR 504) zd1WDAc.jpg

During the final commercial break of the show, in between the last match and this one, League security had to escort Nuclear Templeton from the ringside area. He demanded that he should have the right to watch this match from ringside since he had a vested interest in it, but that was quickly denied by senior League official Jacob Smalls. The final match of the season would happen without any other wrestlers in the ringside area.

This was a surprisingly close match for the opening seven minutes. Simmons looked like he could hold his own against Mastachas, while Mastachas weathered the storm and dealt punishment where he could. It all started coming apart for Simmons around the nine-minute mark, as Mastachas got in a lengthy sustained run of offense. To his credit, Simmons didn’t panic and fought back again, turning what would have been disaster (a superplex Mastachas was going to use to counter a Working Man’s Dropkick) into a pinning predicament. As they got back to their feet, though, Mastachas stunned Simmons with a quick DDT, and followed it with a Wrath of Zeus. It only took three seconds after that. Season Ten ends with George Mastachas raising the League Championship in the final match of the show!

George Mastachas (11-3) def. Daniel Simmons (3-11) via Pinfall (Wrath of Zeus) in 15:49.  Rating: **

Changes for George Mastachas:  OVR + 4.30, XP + 731.39, no notable damage

Changes for Daniel Simmons:  OVR -0.08, XP + 182.85, minor damage to head

PREDICTION STANDINGS

(Reminder: The standings will now show “official” scores with the bottom two weeks dropped.)

1. Croquemitaine: 130 (this week: 11). Total score: 146 (drop weeks 4 [8] and 5 [8])

2. Eternal Phoenix: 130 (this week: 12). Total score: 143 (drop weeks 4 [5] and 5 [8])

3. SeanMcG: 127 (this week: 9). Total score: 127 (drop weeks 7 [6] and 11 [7])

4. ShadowedFlames: 124 (this week: 11). Total score: 131 (drop weeks 4 [7] and 10 [0])

5. Derek B:  124 (this week: 9). Total score: 128 (drop weeks 3 [0] and 5 [4])

6. Jman2k3: 117 (this week: 10). Total score: 131 (drop weeks 4 [7] and 7 [7])

With a tie atop the standings, the first tiebreaker is total picks correct. By a three-point margin that goes to Croquemitaine. The Week 4 predication disaster that led to the majority of us using that as a drop week is the difference maker this season. Croquemitaine wins the prediction pool for Season Ten and will get to dictate which matches Monty Dhillon will have as his gimmick matches next season once the participants are locked in. Because of the tie atop the standings, I’m also going to award a consolation prize to Eternal Phoenix, and allow him to pick a single match for any of his characters to determine the gimmick. While I may have already done the end-of-season medical rest rolls and the like, it doesn’t mean I’m going to give away ALL of the results now!

The overall total also determines the tiebreaker between fourth and fifth places.

THE LEAGUE IS NOW ON BREAK UNTIL JANUARY 2024. I WILL STILL POST OCCASIONALLY DURING THE “OFF-SEASON” AS I HAVE A FEW THINGS LINED UP, PLUS THERE’S OMEGA DIVISION THINGS TO WORK THROUGH. AS WE GET CLOSER TO THE START OF SEASON ELEVEN I’LL POST A REMINDER ON HOW TO SPEND INCOMING TRAIT POINTS (TP) THAT ALL RETURNING WRESTLERS WILL BE GETTING.

First of all, congras to George Mastachas on stealing the League title from Nuclear even after losing to him.... crimes have been commited here, and some fine Italian men in fine Italian suits will be petitioning The League to retroactively change the tiebreakers to remove head to head records and go straight to average time of victory 😛

Secondly, congrats to our predictions winner(s) too for being able to predict so well.  I will never be good at this, and that comes from someone who once managed to predict a legit 0 on a Wrestlemania one year to lose our contest by the largest margin ever recorded 😮

Lastly, Nuclear won 9 matches in a row and had lost this title by week 5.... insanity!  Next season he's gonna start hot and put together the longest steak of all time by building on that, presumably starting with Blackfield and Mastachas, cos those pretenders need to learn their place!

Two things:

1) I just noticed an AI render thread for CVerse-style renders. While Croquemitaine's work will remain the official renders for GMPCs in The League now and moving forward, because by and large I prefer human-made work as they put time into it instead of entering stuff into a generator, I may crib some renders from that thread for current and future Omega Division people when I run that division's contests (since I'm really the only one who actually sees it). I saw one that may end up being a repackaged Sterling Silver within the first three pages, I'm just saying...there are a lot of images there and I could certainly craft stories for more than a few. There may be additional Omega Division wrestlers for the running after Season Eleven in complete.

2) Not even 48 hours since the end of Season Ten and already we have braking news regarding Season Eleven...

BETA DIVISION WRESTLER TO MISS SEASON ELEVEN

NOVEMBER 12, 2023--In a Sunday statement released by The League's headquarters out of Baltimore, Maryland, League owner and commissioner Will Prydor announced that recently-relegated wrestler Daniel Simmons would be missing the upcoming eleventh season of The League.

"While Mr. Simmons' reasons to miss a season are his own to discuss as he deems fit," Prydor said, "he has authorized me to simply state that due to a death in his family, he had to return home to Washington state to attend to matters there. As such, he will not be on the Beta Division roster for Season Eleven. Should he be ready to return for Season Twelve, he will be placed in the Gamma Division at that time. My condolences, as well as those from all of us involved with The League, go out to Mr. Simmons and his family in these troubled times, and I ask that his privacy be respected while he is on leave.

"This creates an opening in the Beta Division to be filled in, and in effect also the Gamma Division, which I have elected to fill as follows: both seventh-place finishers in the Beta Division and Gamma Division are hereby not relegated."

Prydor's announcement means that Pulsar and Markus Clay, who finished seventh in the Beta and Gamma Divisions respectively, will remain in those divisions for Season Eleven as a measure to fill the vacancy left by Daniel Simmons.

When asked why an extra promotion couldn't come from the Gamma Division into Beta, Prydor said, "I approach each scenario on a case-by-case basis. If I had elected to promote a third from the Gamma Division, there would still be a vacancy left in Gamma to fill that spot in. Do I then promote the third place out of Delta too? And what happens if, say, I promoted a third out of Gamma and Delta and then someone else in Gamma ends up having to miss a season or more? Do I then promote a fourth from Delta? I had to make a decision that would be the least intrusive for all involved, while ensuring that when people like Mr. Simmons are ready to return that they have the right to return to a roster spot if they are still entitled to it. While I have some hard-and-fast guidelines I consider, such as a division champion will always promote even if it means an extra spot is relegated, or an eighth-place wrestler will always be relegated no matter what other vacancies happen, in this instance it seemed the easiest, correct move is to simply not relegate the seventh-place wrestlers from the affected divisions."

The final Season Eleven roster is set to be announced at some point in mid-January 2024.

Agenda for this week, while I’m off from work:

* Finish new PC entry for Delta Division (Jman’s entering a secondary character, so minor spoilers)

* Get last season’s final OVR and SPR updates put in the game database.

* Get started on Omega Division stuff. There are 18 people on the roster, so 17 rounds of 9 matches makes 153 total bouts I have to run. Could I do all of those this week? Yes, since I don’t fully watch them and am only interested in win/loss and time results so it gets done faster. Am I doing all 153 this week? Heck no.

* Somewhere in that mess, work some more on the power rankings document.

* If time allows actually do other, non-League related stuff in my life. 😛

You gonna give us Omega updates every 51 matches, boss? Slice that total into thirds and it's pretty managable.

17 is a prime number (so not divisible by 3) and I normally run things in groups of rounds. So this would be unorthodox for me, but it may be manageable. I’ll see how it goes as I approach each point.

EDIT: An example…it’d work out into 4 rounds one sitting, then 2 at some point, then 6 because I’m on a roll, then another 2, and then the final three. No real consistency there. 😂

Did not phrase that correctly. 153 matches total. A third of that is 51, which I'm saying may well be a pretty neato place to stop and update us. Conveniently, it's also 17 x 3, meaning it's after 3 full rounds. But you're not as precise as I am about this sort of things (thanks OCD/autism, you're lovely) so don't mind me so much. 😅

No, no…you explained your reasoning right. But 51 isn’t a viable stop point for me anyway, based on how I run things:

18 people means 17 rounds. (Can’t wrestle yourself)

Each round is 9 matches (18/2).

17 x 9 = 153, as established.

So 1 full round = 9 matches, 2 = 18, etc.

Your planned update at 51 matches would actually be in the middle of the sixth round of matches. (9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54) With no byes, to me it makes no sense to update with an incomplete week in the books. Update when everyone has the same number of matches done, that way it’s easier to figure out. 😁

That’s where I was coming from, hopefully that makes more sense.
