Pre-show

The Beautiful People defeated The Perfect Tens in a match that was relegated to the preshow due to the feud never quite catching on. The match wasn't good, and the feud is unlikely continue.

Week 3, April, 2014

Live from Haas Pavilion in Berkeley, California

Attendance: 11.877

Announcers: Mike Tenay and Taz

In the opening match of the night, Jesse Sorensen's four month reign as X-Division Champion came to an end as he was defeated by Johnny Impact, who captured the X-Division Championship for the first time. This was a good opener with plenty of exciting action, and the finish of the match came at 14:19 when Impact evaded a Lone Star Press from the Champion, only to quickly roll him up and secure the pinfall victory. (72)

Doc Gallows then faced "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal in a match where the spot as backstage interviewer was on the line, with Gallows representing Christy Hemme while Lethal represented SoCal Val. It was a solid enough match, with plenty going on at ringside as Christy and Val were at each other's throats for most of the match. In the end, Gallows put Lethal away with a Chokeslam at 10:25, meaning that Christy Hemme won the right to continue as backstage interviewer in TNA going forward. (58)

However, after the match, Christy Hemme announced that she knew a good thing when she saw one, meaning that she would not, in fact, continue as backstage interviewer after all, and that she instead would manage Doc Gallows going forward. Christy vowed that Gallows was going straight to the top of TNA, and then, as a final exclamation point, Christy slapped SoCal Val. Then, in a move that shocked the fans as well as the announcers, Gallows hit a Chokeslam on Val, and Gallows and Christy stood tall in the ring while Mike Tenay on commentary called for medical personnel to attend to SoCal Val. (46)

The TNA Tag Team Championships were vacated due to Austin Aries suffering an injury, so new Tag Team Champions were crowned at Lockdown. Four teams battled for the gold, The Wolves, The Menagerie, Garrett Bischoff and Wes Brisco and the final team was The BroMans. It was an okay match where all four teams got a decent amount of offense in, but the match never really kicked into high gear. In the end, it was The Wolves who picked up the win and the titles, when Eddie Edwards pinned Jessie Godderz at 11:41 to secure the tag team gold. (50)

A backstage segment aired next where Taryn Terrell stood in front of a mirror, talking to herself. Taryn said that she was younger, prettier and just plain better than Mickie James. Taryn said that she knows it, Mickie knows it, and after tonight, everyone else would know it too. Taryn then smiled creepily at herself in the mirror as the segment came to an end. (34)

Mr. Anderson took on Raven and "The Monster" Abyss next in a Raven's Rules handicap match. This was a brutal war with plenty of weapons and quite a bit of blood as well, and all three men took a lot of punishment in this one. In the end, Mr. Anderson was able to overcome the odds and pick up the victory after hitting the Mic Check on Raven onto a steel chair at 8:05 to bring the bloody battle to an end. (57)

"The Icon" Sting was seen confronting Bully Ray in the backstage area next. Sting told Bully that if he played it any other way than straight in the Lethal Lockdown match, then Sting would make it his own personal mission to make sure that Bully would pay for double-crossing them. Bully didn't say anything, and his expression was hard to read, which left Tenay and Taz to wonder just what was going through the mind of Bully Ray. (90)

Mickie James and Taryn Terrell squared off next in a short match that saw Mickie in control for most of it, until Taryn snapped and began pummeling Mickie with right hands. The referee called for the disqualification at 2:20 as Taryn ignored his repeated warnings, and multiple other referees hit the ring to help get Taryn away from Mickie. (37)

Lethal Lockdown took place as Team AJ, consisting of AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, Sting and Bully Ray took on Team Jarrett, consisting of Jeff Jarrett, Bobby Lashley, Christopher Daniels and Kazarian. This match featured a dominant performance by Bobby Lashley, but it also, somewhat surprisingly perhaps, saw Bully Ray remain loyal to his teammates throughout the match. In the end, it was Team AJ who picked up the win in a grueling, hard-fought match when AJ Styles forced Christopher Daniels to submit to the Calf Killer at 20:02. (61)

And in the main event of Lockdown 2014, "The Outlaw" James Storm defended the TNA World Heavyweight Championship against Samoa Joe. This turned out to be Match of the Night by far, and it was indeed a good match as Storm and Joe went back and forth throughout, the match. Despite coming close a couple of times, Samoa Joe was unable to capture the World Championship on this night, and the match came to an end at 15:05 when James Storm first nailed Joe with a beer bottle when the referee was momentarily down, only to quickly follow that up with a Last Call superkick to secure the pinfall victory and continue his reign as champion. (79)

Lockdown is finally posted, albeit in an abbreviated version of what I normally do. Things have kinda been a mess for me for a while, but I really wanted to get back to this, and for a number I reasons I decided to do a shorter version of the write-up than I normally would. I do plan to return to my normal write-ups, hopefully as soon as the next Impact, but again, for various reasons, I think doing Lockdown this way was the best way for me to get the ball rolling again.

Week 4, April, 2014

Live from Tiger Arena in Savannah, Georgia

Attendance: 6.000 (sellout)

Announcers: Mike Tenay and Taz

spacer.png

This week's edition of TNA Impact opens with Samoa Joe's music playing as Joe marches out from the back and down to the ring, while Taz notes that Joe doesn't appear to be in a good mood tonight. Tenay says that he can't blame Joe after what happened at Lockdown. Once in the ring, Joe grabs a mic and gets straight to the point; he wants a rematch with James Storm. Joe says that he has worked too hard, for too long, to let Storm screw him out of his shot at the World Championship. Joe wants Eric Bischoff to come out and make the match official, but instead of Bischoff he gets...

spacer.png

Bobby Roode, who makes his way down to the ring as Mike Tenay says that Roode might have an issue with Samoa Joe's request. Bobby Roode gets on the mic and he reminds Joe that Eric Bischoff already promised that Roode would be next in line to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship against whoever won at Lockdown, so as far as Roode is concerned, Joe can walk his ass to the back of the line! The two men come face to face, but then Eric Bischoff's music hits... (68)

spacer.png

The owner of TNA makes his way out onto the stage with a mic in his hand. Bischoff says that both Samoa Joe and Bobby Roode have legitimate claims to a World Title shot, so they'll have to settle it in the ring tonight. Bischoff books Samoa Joe versus Bobby Roode for the main event of Impact, with the winner of that match going on to face James Storm at Sacrifice! Samoa Joe seems content with this decision, but Bobby Roode doesn't as he once again has to fight for a Title shot that he has already earned. (66)

spacer.png  spacer.png

In the back, Jeremy Borash, who is filling in for the injured SoCal Val, is with the new TNA X-Division Champion, Johnny Impact. Impact brags about how good the X-Division title belt looks when it's wrapped around his waist, and he says that it's an image that the world is going to have to get used to seeing, because the belt will there for a LONG time. Impact says that this is his time, TNA is his place, and his reign at the top of the X-Division has only just begun! (60)

spacer.pngvs.spacer.png

The in-ring portion of tonight's show kicks off with X-Division action as the, now former, X-Division Champion, Jesse Sorensen, takes on Petey Williams. It is a solid match with Petey WIlliams putting up a good fight, but in the end, it's Jesse Sorensen who picks up a nice bounce-back victory following his loss at Lockdown, hitting the Lone Star Press and covering Williams for the one, two, three.

Jesse Sorensen defeated Petey Williams at 7:46 by pinfall with the Lone Star Press (63)

As Jesse celebrates his victory in the ring, Mike Tenay says that Sorensen must have his sights set on a rematch with Johnny Impact, and with a performance like this one, it's only a matter of time before he gets one.

Tenay then announces that a Number One Contender tournament will kick off tonight, with eight men competing for a shot at the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Slammiversary. Tenay says that the first of four quarter finals matchups will take place tonight, with the rest of the tournament continuing over the next few weeks, and the finals of the tournament taking place at the Sacrifice pay per view.

spacer.png  spacer.pngspacer.png

Backstage, in Eric Bischoff's office, Doc Gallows and Christy Hemme are with the owner of TNA. Bischoff addresses Gallows's actions against SoCal Val at Lockdown, saying that as the owner and boss of TNA, he cannot condone that kind of behavior. However, Bischoff admits that he would be lying if he said he wasn't just a little bit impressed with Gallows's ruthlessness, so Bischoff says that he'll let it slide this time, and that Gallows should consider his spot in the Number One Contender tournament a sign of Bischoff's admiration. Christy thanks Bischoff before she and Gallows leave, and Tenay is utterly disgusted on commentary that Bischoff is letting Gallows get away with his vicious attack on SoCal Val. (48)

spacer.png

We gets a brief recap video of Bobby Lashley's dominant performance at Lockdown during the Lethal Lockdown match, and Mike Tenay and Taz both put Lashley over as a serious threat to anyone and everyone in the TNA locker room. (57)

spacer.pngvs.spacer.pngw/spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

Sonjay Dutt takes on Mike Knox of The Menagerie next, and it's a tough go for Sonjay, who is not only at a size disadvantage, but a numbers disadvantage as well. Still, he manages to put up a decent fight, but frequent distractions at ringside, combined with Knox's size and power, is ultimately too much for Dutt to overcome, and Mike Knox picks up the pinfall victory after hitting a Sitout Spinebuster.

Mike Knox defeated Sonjay Dutt at 6:31 by pinfall with a Sitout Spinebuster (59)

spacer.png

We cut to the backstage area where Taryn Terrell is seen talking to her own reflection in the mirror again. Taryn says that Mickie James got what she deserved at Lockdown, and Taryn proclaims herself to be the prettiest girl in the whole wide world. Taryn then lets out a mad giggle just as the cameras cut away, and Tenay and Taz both agree on commentary that something is very wrong with Taryn Terrell. (35)

spacer.pngspacer.png

Back at ringside, Gail Kim's music hits and the TNA Knockouts Champion makes her way down to the ring, accompanied as always by Lei D'Tapa. Gail gets on the mic and says that, as fun as it is being the Knockouts Champion, she's getting bored of the lack of worthy challengers in TNA. Gail says that she'll defend the Knockouts Championship against anyone who is willing to step up next week on Impact, but there is a catch. Gail vows to not only defeat her challenger next week, but to also humiliate and embarrass her challenger for the world to see. As Gail drops the mic and heads back up the ramp, Taz comments that Gail seems to have developed quite the ego over the last several months, which Mike Tenay can only agree with. (61)

spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

We cut to the backstage area where The Originals are gathered in a locker room and Jeff Jarrett is chewing Daniels, Kazarian and Eric Young out for losing at Lockdown. Jarrett is interrupted, however, by Daniels and Kazarian, who both tell Jarrett that, while they would love to stand around and have Jarrett rip them a new one, they do have a Tag Team Title match coming up. As Daniels and Kazarian walk off, Jarrett turns his attention, and fury, to Eric Young. Jarrett says that he's going to give Eric one last chance to make his failures up to Jarrett. Jarrett says that he know that Eric Young was granted a spot in the Number One Contendership tournament, even though Jarrett doesn't understand why, and he wants Eric to hand his spot in the tournament over to him, but Young is hesitant to do so. Jarrett insists, but Young tells him that HE got this opportunity, not Jarrett, and Young is going to make the most of it. As Young walks off, leaving Jarrett fuming, Tenay and Taz talk about how it appears that The Originals are coming apart at the seams. (53)

TNA Tag Team Championships

spacer.pngspacer.png

spacer.pngspacer.pngvs.spacer.pngspacer.png

The Wolves defend their newly won Tag Team Championships next against Bad Influence. It's a lengthy, back and forth battle with both sides working well together, and neither side making very many mistakes at all. As such, the match continues to go back and forth throughout, with multiple near-falls along the way, but, in the end, it's Bad Influence who come out on top as Daniels hits the BME on Davey Richards and covers him for the pinfall victory, while Kazarian prevents Eddie Edwards from breaking up the pin.

Bad Influence defeated The Wolves at 14:58 by pinfall when Daniels pinned Richards with the BME. Bad Influence win the TNA Tag Team Championships (67)

spacer.png  spacer.png

As Bad Influence celebrate their Tag Team Title victory in the ring, we cut to the backstage area where Jeremy Borash is with the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, James Storm, and JB asks Storm his thoughts on tonight's main event. "The Outlaw" starts off by saying that he wants to make one thing clear; he walked into Lockdown with one goal and one goal only, and that goal was to walk back OUT of Lockdown as the World Champion--and he did exactly that. Storm says that he doesn't give a damn if it's Samoa Joe again, or Bobby Roode, or someone else entirely, because the end result will be exactly the same; "The Outlaw" walks in as the TNA World Heavyweight Champion...and he walks back OUT as the TNA World Heavyweight Champion! (66)

Number One Contender Tournament Quarter Final Match

spacer.pngvs.spacer.pngw/spacer.png

Eric Young battles Doc Gallows in the first of four Quarter Final matches in the Number One Contender tournament next, and it is an intense battle where Young tries his best to make up for his size disadvantage with sheer aggression as he takes the fight to Gallows early on. A timely distraction from Christy Hemme allows Gallows to take control of the match, but before too long, Young is fighting back again, showing impressive spirit.

spacer.png

Jeff Jarrett is then seen making his way down to ringside and he says something to Christy Hemme. Christy then distracts the referee, allowing Jarrett to enter the ring, hit a low blow on Eric Young from behind, and then drive him face first into the mat with The Stroke. Jarrett exits the ring, Gallows hits a Chokeslam on Young, and Doc Gallows advances in the Number One Contender tournament.

Doc Gallows defeated Eric Young at 8:11 by pinfall with the Chokeslam following interference from Jeff Jarrett. Doc Gallows advances in the Number One Contender tournament (61)

After the match, as Jeff Jarrett makes his way back up the ramp, Tenay and Taz are both shocked that Jarrett just turned on Eric Young, though Tenay admits that, at this point, maybe he shouldn't be surprised by any depths that Jeff Jarrett will sink to.

spacer.png

It's almost main event time, but first the TNA World Heavyweight Champion, James Storm, makes his way out from the back to join Tenay and Taz at the announce desk. Tenay tries to object, but Storm tells Tenay that he can do whatever the hell he wants to do, and he asks if Tenay is going to stop him? Tenay obviously isn't, and Storm says that that's what he thought before the trio turn their attention to the ring. (82)

spacer.pngvs.spacer.png

A World Title shot at Sacrifice is on the line in tonight's main event as Samoa Joe goes one on one with Bobby Roode. This is easily the best match of the night, and both men leave it all in the ring in their attempts to earn a spot in the main event of Sacrifice. The match eventually spills outside where Bobby Roode uses the environment, mainly the steel steps and the guard rail, to put himself firmly in control of the match. The referee admonishes Roode for his actions, but Roode ignores him and stays on the offensive. Things go south for Roode when he misses a corner clothesline, and Samoa Joe then drives Roode into the mat with an Uranage for the double down. This is when James Storm leaves his position at the announce desk and makes his way toward the ring, much to Tenay and Taz's confusion.  Storm grabs a steel chair before sliding into the ring, and he proceeds to deck both Joe and Roode with the chair, leaving the referee with no choice but to throw the match out.

Samoa Joe drew with Bobby Roode at 12:24 due to a double disqualification after James Storm got involved (77)

And with that, "The Outlaw" James Storm stands tall in the ring, steel chair still in hand, as Mike Tenay says on commentary that we still have no idea who will challenge Storm for the World Heavyweight Championship at Sacrifice. And with that comment, another edition of TNA Impact comes to an end.
