TNA: Total Nonstop Action--iMPACT and XPlosion

Recommended Posts

As TNA went National it became more and more evident that another hour was needed to feature its stars, and the promotion as a whole. As Spike TV was fairly unhappy about the ratings already for iMPACT, TNA was never granted the second hour. After a month of lackluster ratings Spike TV cancelled the show and TNA was sent searching for another place to put iMPACT. After a week of negotiating TNA had a new time and place for Impact, it now was to air on MTV2 at 10:00PM. TNA was hitting a bit of a wall with Vince Russo at its helm, which was fairly evident with the iMPACT ratings and Bound For Glory Pay-Per-View, which was seen as a huge disappointment. So TNA and Dixie Carter decided it was time for a change, subsequently she went out with the help from Jeff Jarrett, Jim Cornette, and a few others to find a suitable replacement. After weeks of searching Dixie had found not one but two replacements in up and coming writers from the WWE, Donnie Denton and Tommy Walker. Denton and Walker left WWE after not being able to show off their ideas as they were seen, as Stephanie McMahon told them, as non-WWE programming material. Denton and Walker came in to a bunch of skepticism from the TNA roster as they were seen as the same-old, same-old WWE guys; that immediately changed at the TNA Genesis Pay-Per-View where not only was the NWA World Heavyweight title changing hands from Sting to Christian Cage, a brand split between iMPACT and XPlosion was announced, XPlosion was to air on Sun Sports starting at 10:00 PM on Fridays, but finally the announcement that Kurt Angle was joining the TNA roster made everyone see that things were finally changing for the better, and that Denton and Walker were finally the fresh air needed to bring TNA to the next level.

After the brand split TNA iMPACT recieved the NWA world Heavyweight title when Christian Cage beat Abyss and Sting after Jim Cornette order that each brand should have a chance to have the champ on their respective side. TNA iMPACT recieved the TNA X-Division title when Christopher Daniels defeated "Primetime" Elix Skipper and Senshi after Jim Cornette order that each brand should have a chance to have the champ on their respective side. But later that month lost the title to Chris Sabin on a recent iMPACT taping. TNA iMPACT also recieved the NWA World Tag Team titles when L.A.X. defeated AMW, VKM, and Team 3-D in a four-way tag team match after Jim Cornette order that each brand should have a chance to have the champ on their respective side. With no titles for TNA XPlosion, Rhino brought in the ECW Television title and renamed it the Extreme Television title, which was consequently lost by Rhino in a Monster's Ball match between Rhino, eventual winner Raven, Brother Runt, and Scott Steiner.
