Wrestling at the Checkerdome Results Friday, Week 2, February, 1983
Wrestling at the Checkerdome Results Friday, Week 2, February, 1983 Location: The Checkerdome in St. Louis, Missouri Attendance: 1,900 Crusher Ayala and Roger Kirby vs. Mike George and Bob Brown vs. A team of powerhouses against a team of techinical artists in this contest. Crusher Ayala and Roger Kirby are two beasts, but Bob Brown and Mike George on the otherhand, not so much. The team of Bob Brown and Mike George added some slower style to this match, which actually helped the match. Bob Brown's experience really showed that if he is in the match, anybody can pull off a good bout. Crusher Ayala is really showing improvement not only in the ring, but also he is connecting more with the crowd. Crusher Ayala and Roger Kirby got the well-earned victory over Bob Brown and Mike George, when Crusher Ayala hit a massive Piledriver on Mike George. Winners: Crusher Ayala and Roger Kirby Overall: C Butch Reed vs. Buzz Tyler vs. Another match made rich with power here in the St. Louis Wrestling Club. Both Butch Reed and Buzz Tyler are known for their expertise in the strength category. It seems Sam Muchnick is really fond of the big man of late. These two men were evenly match and that made for a great match, but nothing too special. You won't see many five-star matches coming out of either one of these guys anytime soon. Butch Reed barely got the victory over "Avalanche" Buzz Tyler, when Butch Reed hit the Flying Shoulderblock and covered for the three count. Winner: Butch Reed Overall: C+ Rufus R. Jones and Manny Fernandez vs. Dewey Robertson and Jerry Brown vs. Another above-average tag team match for this promotion. I'm telling you, these tag matches are becomming a staple in the St. Louis Wrestling Club. It is becomming guys like Rufus R. Jones, Roger Kirby, and Bob Brown's duty to wrestle these matches and it is working well. Jerry Brown couldn't keep up with the rest of the pack in this one, and was physically tired at the end. Manny Fernandez was the best in this match and it showed. Fernandez wrestled this match to a science and the opposing team couldn't handle it. The team of Manny Fernandez and Rufus R. Jones got the victory, when Manny Fernandez hit Jerry Brown with the Flying Cross Chop. Winners: Rufus R. Jones and Manny Fernandez Overall: C+ Bob Sweetan vs. King Kong Bundy vs. This is another one of those powerhouse, hoss matches. Bob Sweetan and King Kong Bundy are both huge guys, which may have either hurt or helped the match quality. These guys shake the ring when they hit moves and that really made for an intense match. Both guys got an equal amount of offense done in this match. Although Bob Sweetan put on a valiant effort, King Kong Bundy was able to continue his great start in the St. Louis Wrestling Club with another win, after King Kong Bundy hit Bob Sweetan with the Avalanche. Winner: King Kong Bundy Overall: C+ Bob Orton Jr. vs. Dory Funk Jr. vs. A very physically demanding match, going over the twenty-minute mark. Both these guy are athletically gifted and both have great stamina. Most men couldn't handle a match of this magnitude, but Orton Jr. and Funk Jr. both were able to control themselves in the ring. This match was expected to be a very good match and it was a toss-up to who would win it. The vetern, Dory Funk Jr. was able to pull off the victory, after Bob Orton Jr. found himself on the wrong end of a Dory Funk Jr. Piledriver. Winner: Dory Funk Jr. Overall: B David Von Erich vs. Ted DiBiase vs. This is another classic match made famous by two of the greatest wrestlers in the business today. This is another match that was a match that the opponents needed to outlast to even win. Both of these guys are very conditioned and were able to pull off a very good match. This was a very good lead in match for the main event. David Von Erich and Ted DiBiase have pretty good chemistry together. Von Erich isn't able to do something his brother Kerry has been doing lately, winning, when David Von Erich got caught in Ted DiBiase's Cobra Clutch. Winner: Ted DiBiase Overall: B+ NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title Harley Race vs. Kerry Von Erich vs. This is what title matches are all about. Kerry Von Erich has been on a roll lately and was able to obtain the #1 Contendership for the NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title a month ago at Wrestling at the Checkerdome against Ted DiBiase. Now Von Erich has to face one of the most dominating forces in professional wrestling today, Harley Race. Race is one of the most known wrestlers in the Mid West, so it was hard for Kerry Von Erich to get a momentum advantage. This match was full of big moves and technical holds. It was a diverse match, which is nice when you are dealing with a title. The match was long and it built the suspense in the arena, as everyone was on the edge of their seat. Kerry Von Erich was able to get the crowd on his side. Harley Races' NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title defense against Kerry Von Erich was a...unsuccessful one. Kerry Von Erich pulled off a complete upset on Harley Race, when Kerry Von Erich hit a out-of-nowhere Tornado Punch. Winner: Kerry Von Erich Overall: A Kerry Von Erich Celebrates After the match, Kerry Von Erich celebrates in the ring. He holds the title up high in the air and tears start to stream down his face. Von Erich then gets out of the ring and gives high-fives to all the fans around the ring. This was a very dramatic moment and it may be a new chapter in the book of the St. Louis Wrestling Club. Overall: B+ Overall Rating: B+
Wrestling at the Chase Results Saturday, Week 2, February, 1983
Wrestling at the Chase Results Saturday, Week 2, February, 1983 Location: The Chase Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri Attendance: 1,000 King Kong Bundy vs. Butch Reed vs. This match was specifically designed to show off the power between these two men. This match was full of slams and strikes. King Kong Bundy and Butch Reed didn't slow down, but with them being already big, they didn't have much to slow down. The announcing improved this match on television through Garagiola's great color commentary. Butch Reed played a face type character in this one, but King Kong Bundy is a dominating heel character. King Kong Bundy pulled off a terrific victory, when King Kong Bundy was able to hit the Avalanche on a shattered Butch Reed. Winner: King Kong Bundy Overall: C+ Bob Sweetan vs. Crusher Blackwell vs. Another great match between these two men. These two have had a storied history and they have been having heat among eachother lately. Crusher Blackwell tried to dominate this match, but Bob Sweetan was able to get in his fair share to make this a good contest. This match is one of the better lower matches that has been ran in the St. Louis Wrestling Club of late. Crusher Blackwell was able to continue what he had been doing over Sweetan, and that is winning, when Crusher Blackwell hit Bob Sweetan with his own signature move, the Piledriver. Winner: Crusher Blackwell Overall: B- Bob Brown and Buzz Tyler vs. Crusher Ayala and Jerry Brown vs. Another classic tag match including the team of Bob Brown and Buzz Tyler. Crusher Ayala and Jerry Brown were one of the oddest teams you will ever see in a St. Louis Wrestling Club ring. Crusher Ayala, being the man with the power, and Jerry Brown, the man with the skill of style. Now on the other hand, Bob Brown and Buzz Tyler fit well together, but it is evident that Bob Brown is getting old and may not be in the ring much longer. Bob Brown just can't keep up with the other guys. Although the set-backs, the team of Bob Brown and Buzz Tyler did get the win, when Buzz Tyler hit Jerry Brown with a Power Bodyslam. Winners: Bob Brown and Buzz Tyler Overall: C Bob Orton Jr. vs. Rufus R. Sam Muchnick went into this match not knowing if these guys would work well with eachother. Sam Muchnick found out the hard way that these guys had great chemistry. You can expect a fantastic match out of Bob Orton Jr., but Rufus R. Jones usually doesn't put on matches this good. This match could have been a little better if the crowd would have been a little more into it. Bob Orton Jr. does pull off the much expected win over Rufus R. Jones, when Bob Orton Jr. made a picture-perfect Superplex. Winner: Bob Orton Jr. Overall: B- Ric Flair Hypes Match Ric Flair is sitting in front of a camera on the set of Wrestling at the Chase. He is sitting their with his back turned. Ric Flair finally turns around and he has his NWA World Heavyweight Title on. Ric Flair finally puts his time in and talks to the camera. Ric Flair Wooooo! Ric Flair, Kerry Von Erich, NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title. Oh it's time to shine, Kerry Von Erich. I know you've made your mark on this business by showing you could beat the best. Last night you proved it by beating Harley Race, but let me tell you something...wooooo! If you want to be the man, you got to beat the man. And tonight Kerry Von Erich, I'm the man. I'm the NWA World Heavyweight Champion, I'm the "Nature Boy". Wooooo! Ric Flair then paces off the screen. The show goes to a commerical for Imo's Pizza. I'm sure Bob Sweetan could go for some Imo's Pizza, but who wouldn't, you know what I'm sayin'? Overall: B NWA Missouri Heavyweight Title Kerry Von Erich vs. Ric Flair vs. This was another great match for Kerry Von Erich but when doesn't Ric Flair put on a good match. Ric Flair does have the 2x4 factor, Ric Flair could put on a good match with a board of wood. Ric Flair was the ying to Kerry Von Erich's yang, showing great technical moves and locks. Kerry Von Erich showd more power moves and was able to hang with the much more experienced Ric Flair. Kerry Von Erich barely got the win over the NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair, when Kerry Von Erich was able to hit the Tornado Punch when Ric Flair was trying to hit Kerry Von Erich with a neckbreaker.
Cool another DOTT diary back! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! You know I love this thing nimo.
You know I've brought this thing back a couple times before. I never delete it since when I don't have anything better to do, I just load it up and play it. I can't delete this thing since I believe it is by far my best dynasty, and easily my longest running. I think I may stick with it for a good amount of time now.

Hope it's alright if I predict the winners? If not then let me know and I won't do it again. Brody over Bundy in the Battle of the Kning Kongs! Kerry and Manny over Orton and Blackwell Robertson and Kirby over Tyler and Brown Sweetan over Reed Dunum over the Freighttrain. Looks like a quality show.
