Here are my ideas.

After playing FOF2k7, my eyes have been opened to some things. - The ability to watch any game during a week, while all of the games are being played. In FOF, this is the Solevision feature. However, I wonder if it's possible to take a step forward in this thinking, and be able to sim out one game at a time...or sim a week in "real time". Some online leagues may want to do online sims, or some other features (I would be proposing a radio feature if I were setting up an online league, where I'd do real-time updates and do the play-by-play of the Monday night game), and TPF was definitely not conducive to that type of play. - FOF allows you to go back into any game over the history of your league, and check out the boxscore and gamelog. You could be in 1995, your league could have started in 1970, and you could check out the boxscore from the first game ever played...or the third, fourth, or that game in Week 17 where your team choked, running three-and-outs over your last two possessions and blowing a 10-point lead with four minutes left. This adds to the historical immersiveness of the game. Something like that would be utopian here. - As an addition, you can also check out the gamelog for any player in any season, just by clicking on that season's stats for that player. FOF did an *excellent* job of giving you access to any kind of stat you want, and I feel can be used as a model for this area of the game. - Media out the wazoo. Pro football is, far and away, the most media-friendly sport out there. A news service would be excellent for this game. - Secret stash of porn in an easter egg. Okay, maybe that's Cooley's idea. - One thing, and this is just a personal thing with me that'd be really interesting...a fantasy "mini" game. That is...you could set up a league, with up to, say, 16 "owners" (human or cpu), and hold a fantasy draft using your league's players. Then the game, through hitting a button, could dump out stat-to-point totals for your "league". This would *really* add to the immersiveness of the league, as you would have a very easy way to get to know all of the players in your league, and even root for players not on your team (I know some people do this, but for others, it could be really tough). This would be *huge* for online leagues, and, in my mind, small and easy to set up and implement. I will come up with more ideas as I think of them.

All great suggestions, here are mine. 1. Developmental leagues (A must) NFL Europe etc. 2. Don't show the players ratings (3.5 overall, 6 out of 7 speed). Develop an innovative way to show player development and regression (as they age). 3. Injuries should be tied in with performance decreases, for example a running back blows out his knee, well there will be plenty of question marks concerning him next year, some players bounce back, others drop off the radar. 4. Coaches should be more interactive, give there thoughts on what they see at practice, recommendations, etc. They should have a real impact in leagues as they do in the NFL and College. They should age and get better etc overtime, retire. 5. Player interaction among each other (i.e. team chemistry) As well as role models etc for young players. Such as Trent Dilfer with Alex Smith, (i.e. mentor). 6. Basically play FOF, see what he does, but make it not look like a friggin excel file on steroids, make it interactive and fun, put some gloss on it. :D

Do you have any innovative ideas about "non-quantifiable" or "not-as-quantifiable" methods to display player skills?
Nice ideas as well. Do you have any innovative ideas about "non-quantifiable" or "not-as-quantifiable" methods to display player skills?
For starters all players should have the measurable metrics displayed all the time, for some reason once we get past the draft we stop caring about the 40 time, bench press, cones, etc. I am sure players are measured on these at least yearly. Now, I know more than likely we will have to have some type of numerical rating on players. What I hate to see in games and in leagues is you have a running back that just came off a 1,500 yard season, the next year the ratings come out and he drops to (lets say a 2.0 out 5) and he is dropped from the roster like a lead brick and NOBODY wants to touch him, to me that is just unrealistic... I will keep thinking on it though. Another "idea", please include a complex system that keeps track of a players career, shows season by season (week by week if necessary) what team the player played on, as well how he was acquired (via trade... have a button that you can click that will pull up the trade... or via FA, etc). Have career stats, season by season stats, and game by game stats for every player who was ever in the league.

We cannot just throw out ratings if in turn the metrics feel random. Often times in TPF actually all the time in TPF I do not look at these as they really mean nothing as to the players ability in my opinion. Which is most likely your point with ratings restated.

Fm 2007 Why don´t you take a look at Football Manager 2007? I know it´s a soccer game but the principles are the same. The ratings are between 0 and 20, and increase/decrease according to the way the player is doing at the time (ex: if going through a tough strectch they will decrease). The media role in the game has to be solid to give it some reality bite.

Sure, they continue to lift and run, but they are not timed. The reason is, those things don't really matter and are not good at relating a player's ability on the field. Someone may run a 4.3 in shorts on field turf, but they run significantly slower when in pads on grass; while another person may run a slow 40, but rarely gets caught from behind in the pros (Jerry Rice). I would much rather see coaches/scouts rate each player, each game and give detailed reports about each player. I go into a little more depth and give examples in my suggestions.
