The challengers earned their guaranteed title shot by winning a four-way tag team match at the recent Ed Henson Memorial Tag Team Cup event. Hard Working Wild Men is a relatively new team in NOTBPW, but its members are crafty veterans and boast impressive accomplishments in their own right, despite the diverse paths they took in coming to this point. "American Everyman" Freddie Datsun is no stranger to championship gold. A veteran of the "East Coast Wars" in the US, Datsun was a three-time holder of the DaVE Extreme Title, one of the precursors of the current DaVE Unified Title in the mid-90's. He would go from there to the Supreme Wrestling Federation, where he would have two separate runs with their North American title, once in 2000 and again in 2005. After leaving SWF due to a contract dispute, Datsun signed on with Sam Strong's United States Pro Wrestling, where in his first appearance he won the USPW World Title and held it for most of 2006. While Datsun's career has been exclusive to Canada and the USA, his partner, "Jungle Jack" Marlowe, has been a world traveller, with multiple Japanese tours under his belt (mostly with Golden Canvas Grappling) along with multiple appearances in Mexico. Having logged hundreds of thousands of miles on the road and entertianing audiences in three languages, Marlowe is hungry for his first major title, and his partnership with Datsun has him on the precipice of achieving that elusive goal. When NOTBPW.ca asked Datsun and Marlowe why they claimed their shot so soon after winning it, Datsun replied, "There's no time like the present. We know what it will take to beat the Blondes and win the titles and we're up to the task. They've had a good run recently, but showed that they have weaknesses to exploit after they lost at the [Ed Henson Memorial Tag Team] Cup. Jack and I are ready to prove that we deserve this title shot and will use this opportunity to become Tag Team champions." When reached for comment, current NOTBPW Tag Team Champions "The Natural" Damian Carville and "Doctor Love" Owen Love were dismissive of their latest challengers, despite their recent loss in the finals of the Ed Henson cup to Jeremy and Dan Stone. "They're simply not in our league," said the ****y Carville. "On one hand you have a broken down, over the hill redneck trying to recapture past glory and on the other you have a journeyman who hasn't done anything worth remembering his entire career. We're supposed to take this seriously? Please." Are the champs taking this latest challenge too lightly? "But I'm not complaining, that's part of the deal with this title, there's always going to be the possibility of getting ganged up on. I've proven that I can survive and thrive in that environment, and I will do so again Monday night." Westybrook certainly has experience in the large melees that the Donnybrook title requires in its defenses, in fact, Westybrook used that experience to his advantage in the Fatal Five Way for the Heavyweight Title at the Ed Henson Cup. Though he came up short in that match, he acquitted himself well and it will be no easy task to take the Donnybrook title from him, even with the coordinated effort we are sure to see from the McWades.
Masters of the Squared Circle Lineup (Week 4, March 2007) Melody Cuthill vs. Tamara McFly for the NOTBPW Womens Title Hard Working Wild Men vs. Samoan Insanity Steve Flash vs. Owen Love Tim Westybrook vs. Dean McWade vs. Dallas McWade for the NOTBPW Donnybrook Title Edd Stone vs. Johnny Bloodstone Jeremy Stone vs. Shooter Sean Deeley Sean McFly vs R.K. They're afraid of what this man represents -- a man who didn't need a connected family, didn't need lots of money to buy his way in, this rugged, self-made man only needed his fists and his attitude to claw his way into this business and be where he is today. Both of us worked the Athabasca Oil Sands and let me tell you, that work attracts some of the toughest, meanest, dirtiest vagrants in all of Canada -- and TO A MAN, they would step aside when they saw my boy R.K. walking toward them. I just read this from the start. Awesome diary. The booking, the sidestory, the internet hype & reports; all of it is written incredibly well. You do a wonderful job getting across the differences in character between different people. You also have an almost scary grasp of female psychology. I've been thinking about starting my own NOTBPW, and this I think will put me over the edge. We've done things a bit differently, but that just goes to show that NOTBPW is underrated. Many people think of it as TEW's "easy mode", but there are a lot of ways to go as far as their talent pool is concerned. Keep up the great work, mate. Cheers!

The Atlantic Ocean dominated the view from the restaurant table as the two men tucked into their smoked ostrich and green fig salads. The day's meetings had been difficult -- the damned South Africans were impossible to negotiate with -- but with persistance, skill, and a liberal amount of wining and dining, the deal about to be signed would be nearly 100 million rands, or more than 15 million dollars. As John Heidenreich sipped his wine and looked out over the incoming surf, he couldn't help but feel a smug sense of satisfaction. Things were firmly in control. Or so he thought. He felt the cell phone vibrate in his jacket pocket. He thought briefly about ignoring it. After all, he didn't care if it were only lunchtime back home, he'd earned a quiet evening, hadn't he? The phone buzzed again, and reconsidering, he pulled the phone from his pocket, flipped it open and placed it to his ear. "This is John," he spoke into the phone. He listened to the voice on the other end. "Just a minute," he said tensely. Looking at his colleage, he said, "I need to take this -- order me the filet with camembert, medium, with asparagus spears." He stood up and walked briskly walked out towards the entrance. He ducked into a public phone stall. "What the HELL do you MEAN he's GONE?!?!" "Just what I said, John!" came the reply from Mike Bjornsen, the Saint Knud football coach, from 9000 miles away. "We had a team dinner scheduled for Tuesday and he no-showed -- he's NEVER missed a team function. When I called around to track him down his roommate said that his stuff was cleaned out of his dorm room, and he hasn't been seen by any of his professors since before Easter break!" "Son of a bitch! Have you told Sue yet?" "I haven't been able to reach her all morning." "Damn, she's probably in court. There isn't much I can do from here, Mike, and I HAVE to be in Kyoto day after tomorrow. I can move my meetings up and be back in the States by the end of the week, but that's the best I can do. In the meantime, I want you to get hold of Dean Aaberg -- I need to know how much time I have to track his ass down and get him back before his eligibility is screwed up. Fortunately, FINDING him isn't going to be a problem. He's with that whore of a girlfriend of his. I'll find her wherever her father is wrestling at. Keep trying to get hold of Sue, we're going to need her help addressing this. I'll call you tomorrow at this time. You find out anything in the meantime, email me." "Got it." "Don't worry Mike, we'll get this taken care of. There's too much at stake and I'm not letting that little bitch screw up everything we've worked for." He folded up the phone and tucked it back into his pocket. He took a moment to compose himself before returning to dinner, refusing to let his face betray the rancor simmering in his gut.

It's clear from the outset that Damian and Owen aren't taking this title defense seriously. Their covers are lackadaisical, they strut around after hitting moves, laughing and joking the whole time. This goes on for 3-4 minutes until Freddie surprises Owen by reversing his irish whip and executing a beautiful Patriot Press, covering quickly to pick up the first fall. The stunned Blondes quickly regroup and put their game faces on. The next few minutes are back and forth, and despite isolating Datsun for a long stretch in their corner, the Blondes cannot seem to put him away. 12 minutes in, Damian goes up top for a frog splash, but gets two knees in the gut for his trouble, setting up a race to tag in Jack. Datsun tags Jack in and Jack proceeds to go nuts on Owen, who has been tagged in by Damian. Sensing the match slipping away, Damian goes under the ring and grabs a ball pien hammer from the toolbox stored there. Owen, seeing Damien flash the weapon to him, catches Jack with a dropkick off the ropes, then goes to the opposite corner to attack Datsun. When Datsun tries to retaliate, the ref goes to send him back to the corner and Damian tosses the hammer to Owen while the ref's back is turned. Owen swings for the fences, but Jack ducks, stuns Owen with a quick jab to the face, wrests the hammer from Owen's grip and buries it in Owen's gut. Jack tosses the hammer out of the ring just as the ref turns around and proceeds to finish Owen with the Jungle Jackhammer and get the second fall. The after-show gathering was a special one for Grandpa; the family went out to visit his old friend Frenchie Marcel at his home in St Jerome. Frenchie had been battling colon cancer over the past few months and had gone to the States to have it operated on while it was still in early stages. While the procedure was successful in removing all the cancerous tissue, the follow up chemotherapy had taken a lot out of him, and only now had he recovered enough to be comfortable at home and be able to have visitors for more than brief stays. It was the first time Grandpa had seen him in six months. Frenchie warmed to Kirk right away and began regaling him with stories of the old days when he and Grandpa were in the CWF. To be honest, I think he enjoyed having someone new to tell all his stories to, as the rest of us had heard them at least 100 times. My company mobile phone buzzed in my pocket and I stepped into the next room to take the call. "This is JeriLynn." "JeriLynn, Jared Barnes at GNN here." My stomach knotted. This was the first time Jared had actually called me after a CW show. Usually GNN would email the ratings to me the next day, and while Jared assured us we were in a "honeymoon" period in this first month, he had made it clear that our current numbers would come under scrutiny if they didn't change soon. I was frustrated -- our numbers on GNN were no better than our previous numbers on Canada On-Air, and that was a problem. Anticipating the first official "warning" from the network, I steeled myself and proceeded to reply. "Jared, how are you? It's a bit late for both of us." "Late? I didn't catch you at a bad time, did I? I figured you'd still be at the arena -- sorry if I got you up or anything." "Oh no, nothing like that, no worries. What's on your mind?" "Just wanted to be the first to let you know the numbers as they came in." Damn him, he wasn't going to make this easy. "Really? I hope this isn't a bad omen." "Actually, I think you'll be pleased, JeriLynn." OK, that doesn't sound like a warning, but he was still being damn coy. "I'll take any good news I can get, Jared -- how'd we do?" "Average viewership of 590,500; you peaked over 620,000 during the Tag Title match." "Really?" My mind scrambled to do the math in my head. "That's a--a--" "An 11.81, almost four full points over last week." "Jared, that's great news!" "It is indeed. Had you pulled another high 7, I would have had some serious explaining to do to the folks upstairs. Hopefully this is the start of the positive trending we were looking for. You've got to follow up next week with another solid show, kid, and then I think we're off to the races. Anyway, I wanted to share that with you personally. Anyway, it sounds like you're at a party or something, so I'll let you go -- we'll talk on Tuesday at the pre-production meeting." "Sounds good, Jared -- and thanks for the call." "No problem, JeriLynn. Later." I hung up the phone and bounded back into the room to share the good news with the family.

We went our separate ways on Thursday morning -- Dad and Grandpa began the drive back to Halifax, taking the carload of Kirk's posessions that we brought with us from Minnesota. We had another load of stuff waiting for us in Rochester, where the next Mat Masters show was to be held -- Kirk, perhaps rightfully so, did not think he'd have another chance to get stuff from the house once his absence from Saint Knud was noticed, so we'd taken the extra step of taking a load of items to a storage unit by the War Memorial Auditorium. Kirk had also cleaned out his bank accounts at home and transfered the balances to a Canadian dollar account with Bank of Ottawa. Dad was...understanding of the situation and of our request to have Kirk stay with us for the forseeable future, but I think he's less than happy about it. He had a good long talk with Kirk before he left, I suspect to do the typical 'put the fear of God in his only daughter's now live-in boyfriend' act with him. Grandpa stayed out of it for the most part -- he genuinely likes Kirk and I think preferred not to interfere with Dad's handling of things. Silly people. I actually had made offers to Freddy Huggins and Joe Sexy as well, but couldn't match what the Eisens were willing to pay for them. Getting Joey, however, is a huge win and there are lots of possibilities on how to use him once he has a chance to settle in with us. Even though it wasn't the best of matchups, I think it turned out for the best; Emma got a chance to work her mat technique a little more with Grace, who is more than competent in that area. Emma Bitch defeated Grace Harper in 7:45 by pinfall with The Payback. Tommy London here along with Tom Towsend, and we are anticipating our huge main event for tonight, as Duane Stone challenges Dark Angel! Tom Towsend: I'll tell you something, London, every time Dark Angel makes an appearance these days, it's just unnerving! I can't see how anyone would willingly get in the ring with him! Tommy London: Too true, Tom, but that's exactly what Duane Stone faces! We also have our NEW tag team champions, Freddie Datsun and Jack Marlowe, in action tonight, however, they'll be in singles matches against the two former tag champs! Tom Towsend: That's right, we've got Freddie Datsun matching up with Owen Love, and Jungle Jack will take on The Natural. I really, REALLY like R.K. but his conditioning is a huge obstacle for me -- for me, a legitimate main event title holder needs to be able to go 30 minutes and R.K. can't even get halfway there. He's too popular to put the Donnybrook strap on, and he does put on good matches with most of the top folks.
Great to see you back in action, Wallbanger. I'm in the process of putting the finishing touches on the start of my NOTBPW diary, and this has definitely been a benchmark for me. Awesome main event, and quite the jump in ratings. You're lighting it up across the 49th. Cheers!
Much appreciated Greg -- I know I'm a bit slow (I looked back and realized I started this diary in February and I'm only up to April in game time!). I'm thinking about getting through Super Slam and wrapping up the backstory arc then kicking it into high gear with only show summaries except for major events for a while as an interlude. The next 'story' I want to tell is quite a bit down the road in game terms.

Spring had arrived to Saint Knud right on schedule. The last of the snows had been banished as a result of the past ten days of above average temperatures and the campus was beginning to take on shades of green once again. Through the fourth-floor window of her Ostergaard Hall office, Antonia Dahl-Nillson bemusedly observed the sacred ritual that marked the changing of the seasons; students were wearing shorts again, despite the fact that it was not quite shorts weather out. Strange, she thought to herself, how fifty degrees in April feels so much warmer than fifty degrees in October. Of course, after five months of winter... A rap on her office door pulled her away from her thoughts. "Antonia, do you have a minute?" She turned to see a short, bespectacled man standing in her doorway. Smiling, she motioned the gentleman inside. "Hello Gerry, always have a moment for my favorite department chair." He stepped inside and closed the door behind him. "Unfortunately, I may not be your favorite for very long. We have a problem." Antonia studied the look on his face. She had worked with Gerald Petersen for nearly 20 years, and he rarely called anything a 'problem'. Not that problems didn't come up in world of a college economics department, he just never called them that. A 'challenge', perhaps, maybe even a 'concern'. But if Gerry called it a problem, she knew it was something serious. She opened a drawer of her desk and pulled out a box of Irish Breakfast tea bags. Slipping one into her mug, she stepped out from behind her desk and reached for her hotpot. "Sounds serious, Gerry. Would you like some tea?" "Acutally, yes, thank you -- two sugars, please." Antonia took a second mug from her shelf and made the tea to Petersen's request. Carefully carrying the two steaming vessels to her conference table, she set them down gently and took a seat across from her colleague. "So what's going on, Gerry?" Antonia inquired as she steeped her tea. "We got a revised walklist from the Registrar's office today. One of your advisees got dropped." Gerry said flatly. Antonia raised an eyebrow. The 'walklist' was shorthand for the master list of graduating seniors. For there to be changes in the walk list this far into spring semester was uncommon, but not unheard of, and usually was because a student was on the brink of failing to maintain minimum GPA. "Oh, dear. Let me guess -- Tommy Jaworski isn't going to make the grades he needs to keep a 2.0?" Gerry shook his head. "No, he's still hanging on from what I've heard, he'll be OK as long as he sticks with his counselling and stays away from the party scene as he has for the past few months." "Then who amongst my advisees are off the list?" Antoina asked intently. "No one else is on academic probabtion." Sighing deeply, Gerry replied, "JeriLynn Stone." Antonia's eyes widened. "WHAT? That's gotta be a mistake -- she's set for magna cum laude AND departmental distiction! She's one of the most hardworking, dedicated students I've ever taught!" "I know that, Antonia -- she was in both my Microecon class and my Managerial Accounting class; pulled A's in both." "So what, then, could possibly keep her from walking?" "Late last week Dean Aaberg asked to review the Internship files for the current semester. Today, along with the revised walklist, I get a memo from him saying that JeriLynn's internship proposal should never have been approved at the departmental level and will not be considered for credit by the Registrar." She stared at Petersen in disbelief. "Since when does the Dean's office get involved in reviewing our internships? They've never done it before." "Just because they haven't doesn't mean they can't -- they have the right to review any academic work done for credit," Petersen replied. "Like it or not, we don't have much ground to stand on to change it." "And just what is JeriLynn supposed to do? This is the only course she has left, and we're weeks past the drop/add deadline. Am I supposed to give her an Incomplete?" Petersen sipped his tea before responding. "No. Incompletes have to be approved by the Dean's office, and interestingly enough, Aaberg's memo states that they won't accept an appeal for an Incomplete." "So I'm supposed to give her an F?!? That's not even close to fair, Gerry, and you know it!" Gerry lowered his head and said meekly, "Our hands are tied, Antonia. I don't know what else we can do." "We can give Dean Aaberg a piece of our minds, Gerry! And if you won't do it, I will! I'll go to President Mikkelsen if I have to!" "Antonia, you're up for promotion to full professor this year. Do you really want to cross the man who has the final say in you getting that promotion?" She started to reply, but bit it off before it started. SOMETHING smelled to high heaven about this and if she did step into some political hornets nest she could really damage her career. It infuriated her that this was being allowed to happen, but she had two children of her own who would be college bound soon and she needed her promotion (and the raise that went with it) to go through. She simply couldn't afford to go on a quixotic crusade now, much as it shamed her not to. "It's not right, Gerry. She doesn't deserve this."

Jett, visibly spooked by Angel, takes advantage of the situation as best he can -- was this the subject of his phone call? Jett should be completely outclassed, but hangs tight with Angel and suprises him with a rollup counter to Angel's attempted hurricanrana and scores the pin, grabbing an available rope for good measure. He bolts back up the ramp without even getting his hand raised. Great show. Perhaps Dark Angel taking the fall will drop his Popularity to a point where you can actually re-sign him. That win could definitely propel Jett towards taking Edd's title. I'm smelling a title change at Super Slam. Bloodstone's hot right now, and the draw will help elevate him even more. Great stuff, as always, bud.

"Honey, listen to me. Everything you've learned, everything you've accomplished, everything you've become that I'm so proud of -- that can't be taken away from you. So you don't have a piece of parchment. So what?" "SO WHAT??" I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Sitting there with Dad, Uncle Dan, Aunt Vickie and Kirk, minutes after getting the call from Professor Nillson, this was the LAST thing I wanted to hear from Dad. Yeah, he was technically right -- not having a degree wouldn't change anything about my place in NOTBPW. I was applying almost everything I'd learned as I helped manage the business aspects of the company while at the same time running the book and honing my in-ring skills. Everything I'd done and was doing now focused on a singular purpose; one day taking over the reins of NOTBPW from Dad, after he himself took the reins from Grandpa. True, I didn't NEED a diploma from Saint Knud to do any of that. But that was so not the point right now. "Dad, they can't DO this! It's the principle of the thing!!!" "Gotta admit, Jeremy, I'm surprised you're taking this tack," Uncle Dan said to Dad. "What you're saying is reasonable, I guess. But if it were my kid, and I had given over a hundred grand to a school for her to go there and have them pull something like this, I'd be kind of pissed off." Dad glared at Uncle Dan. "But that's what they want, Dan, for us to be pissed off. Look, if we're going to go so far as to say that this came about because of Kirk's father and his influence at the school--" "And it is," Kirk interjected. "--then his only motivation is to break up JeriLynn and Kirk so Kirk feels like he has no other choice but to go back to Minnesota, am I right? Honey, let me put it this way. If you had to choose one thing -- getting your degree or being with Kirk, which would you choose?" "Jeremy, that's not fair," Aunt Vickie protested. Kirk started to speak up, but Dad cut in first. "As long as hosers like that are out there, life isn't fair, Vickie, and you know that!" Dad replied. "Look," Kirk said firmly in order to get the room's attention, "all I know is that this is important to JeriLynn. If it's important to her, it's important to me. If my going back to Saint Knud meant that JeriLynn would get her degree, I would consider it." Dad looked at Kirk for a moment. "Son, that's a noble sentiment, and I know you well enough by now, I think, to know those aren't just words, that you would indeed do that if you thought it would help. But I've never been fond of bullies, and giving a bully what he wants is simply rewarding his bad behavior. We'll figure out a way to make this work together, and no one is giving up anything on our side. However, we're two hours from opening bell, and we need to get our heads screwed on straight. The folks out there paid good money to see us, and we owe them our best, undistracted efforts. Let's talk through this some more after the show."
NOTBPW Presents -- Mat Masters Tour -- Friday, Week 1, April 2007 Kirk Heidenreich defeated Joss Thompson in 8:28 by pinfall.
