  3. December Week 1 (2018) Recap/Report -------------------------------------------------------------- UFC Fight Night: JDS v. Hunt II Preview Main-Event (FS1) [Heavyweight]: Junior dos Santos (#7, 19-5) vs. Mark Hunt (#10, 13-13-1-1NC) Co-Main (FS1) [Light-Heavyweight]: Tyson Pedro (7-2) vs. Mauricio Rua (#11, 25-11) Main-Card (FS1) [Welterweight]: Jake Mathews (14-3) vs. Thiago Alves (22-13) [Flyweight]: Kai Kara-France (17-7-1NC) vs. Ashkan Mokhtarian (13-3) [Welterweight]: Kenan Song (14-4) vs. Luke Jumeau (13-4) Preliminary Card (FS1) [Flyweight]: Ben Nguyen (#6, 17-7) vs. Wilson Weis (#5, 22-9) [Featherweight]: Shane Young (12-4) vs. Yadong Song (13-4-1NC) [W-Bantamweight]: Talita Bernardo (5-3) vs. Yana Wu (8-2) [Featherweight]: Steven Petterson (17-7) vs. Suman Mokhtarian (8-0) Early-Prelims (UFC Fight-Pass) [Middleweight]: Trevor Smith (15-8) vs. Julian Marquez (7-2) [Light-Heavyweight]: Jimmy Crute (8-0) vs. Paul Craig (10-2) [W-Flyweight:] Jodie Esquibel (6-4) vs. Shana Dobson (3-2) While not a card with the most ranked or well-known talent the UFC makes its final trip to Australia for the year. The event sees a rematch of their 2013 (UFC 160) fight of the year candidate JDS and Mark Hunt will meet again after 5 years have passed since they first came to blows inside the octagon. As many headlines have mentioned Hunt is taking the fight on 3 days notice being promoted to the main event as he was originally supposed to face Justin Willis in the co-main. To the shock of many “The Super-Samoan” instead of the main-event being reduced to 3 rounds the fight will go the full 5 to quote Hunt, “It’s my last fight with the UFC in front of these amazing fans so why not, I don’t have a problem with them. I don’t have a problem with most of the UFC staff to be completely honest, I do have a bone to pick with the higher-ups though”. - Mark Hunt Hunt’s ongoing legal battles with the UFC are well documented for those out of the loop at UFC 200 Brock Lesnar made his long-awaited MMA return against Mark Hunt easily putting on a wrestling clinic to get a UD win over “The Super-Samoan”. The result of the fight would be overturned after Lesnar tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs in fact Lesnar didn’t have to take the mandatory 4 months protocol of being in the USADA pool even skipping all tests from USADA leading up to his bout with Hunt with only the Nevada State Athletic Commission testing Lesnar. Hunt, outraged over the special treatment as Lesnar was clearly on the juice, has filed cases against both the UFC and USADA. The relationship between the Ultimate Fighting Championship plus the king of the walk-off knockouts has been very toxic ever since mostly coming from Hunt antagonizing the UFC plus Dana White. Ever since UFC 200 Hunt has gone a 1-3 being finished in two of those bouts he seems to be lacking the passion for the sport these days more focused on his court battle than the battle inside the octagon. His decline also can be linked to age but his one win was a 4th round TKO over Derrick Lewis who is currently the 3rd ranked Heavyweight in the world so while his durability, technique, and heart have declined over the years his legendary walk-off ko power is still there the same power which produced the 2014 knockout of the year against Roy Nelson. If the fight stays standing which it most probably will since both fighters like to stand and bang it only takes one shot from Hunt, his two straight come from Curtis Blaydes and Alexey Oleynik two grappling specialists. Hunt has admitted it's nice to be facing more of a boxer than ground fight the question is does he still possess an iron chin or has it been shattered over the years JDS has failed to get two consecutive wins together since 2012 his two brutal beatdowns at the hands of Cain Velasquez plus knockout losses to Overeem and Miocic. His speed which once claimed him the Heavyweight belt has slowed a little with his movements becoming easier to predict the Brazilian has incorporated more and more kicks into his arsenal to mix up his plan of attack. If JDS is smart he could take the fight to the ground where he is a BJJ black belt where he could submit the New Zealand Heavyweight but time will only tell. Promoted to the co-main event another Brazilian legend Maurcio ‘Shogun’ Rua faces homegrown Australian prospect Tyson Pedro a skilled karate style fighter with some improving BJJ. Pedro has gotten off a decent (4-2) record within the UFC but whenever promoted to face top competition like the likes of Ilir Latifi and Ovince St. Preux he has come up short. Pedro has openly admitted he believes a loss to Rua could be the end of his UFC career, “I believe in my skills and believe I can win. But you know that voice in the back of your head is constantly nagging negative thoughts? I haven’t yet beat a ranked opponent, that bothers me a lot and I know it’s a huge talking point for all my critics. I can’t wait to get out there shut them all up and start my run to the championship”. - Tyson Pedro Rua a former Light-Heavyweight champion has become a win some lose some gatekeeper for the promotion during his latter years with the UFC. He looks to bounce back after a brutal 1st round knockout loss to Anthony “Lion Heart” Smith before that he was on a 3 fight win streak one that included a win over #6 ranked Light-Heavyweight Corey Anderson, technique-wise this match-up heavily favors Rua with his overwhelming experience inside the octagon but the question of Rua’s chin is the biggest question coming into this fight much like the main-event with JDS and Hunt. The rest of the card is pretty unknown in terms of well-known talent but that doesn't necessarily mean there is no talent you should be aware of in the first edition of Dana White’s “if you don’t know, now you know”. He highlighted two fights on the prelims mainly looking at the likes of Jim Crute who makes his UFC debut after his victory on Dana White’s contender series BJJ specialists with some surprising heavy hands if his striking can become as skilled as his BJJ he very well could become Australia's next UFC champion he fights Paul Craig maybe not the most talented fighter to make your debut against as he has multiple pairs of 1st round knockout losses, but he has big heart willing to always come forward bringing the fight to his opponents. Another Australian prospect with potential championship aspirations is Featherweight Suman Mokhtarian whos been highly praised by many Australian fighters on the UFC roster, “His sambo wrestling is extremely high-level on top of that he is lighting fast it's actually insane, I’m a huge fan of his and I’m very excited to see him in the UFC” - Robert Whittaker (UFC Middleweight Champion) “I’ve trained with him before. He's very special, I have never seen someone as well-rounded and skilled in every area of MMA usually one is a master of one form of combat that needs training in other areas to make a well-rounded fighter. I’ve never seen someone have high-level skills in all areas, don’t sleep on him, he is an absolute monster”. - Alexander Volkanski (#11, Featherweight) While his opponent hasn’t been getting much shine Steven Petterson is a very interesting prospect himself only 25 years old he is a very creative kicker with excellent wrestling plus ground strikes. As Dana White said, “this fight will determine who is the next Featherweight prospect that fans will be clambering for”. Hometown fighters plus fighters from New Zealand like Jake Mathews, Kai Kara-France, Ashkan Mokhtarian, Luke Jumeau, and Shane Young are also fighting. With not a lot of name power look for someone to make a statement to get their name value up.
  4. Date December 1st, 2018 looking back on the year it's been a pretty historical one the biggest fight in UFC history Khabib vs. McGregor is a month old by now plus the 2nd ever double-champion in Daniel Cormier was crowned at UFC 226 with two title defenses this year as well going a perfect 3-0 in 2018 "DC" is a lock for the fighter of the year. As we turn the page to 2019 the UFC deal with Fox is coming to an end with the finale show on the network being a Lightweight rematch between two Lightweight contenders Kevin Lee and Al Iaquinta, the UFC has announced they have inked a deal with the world leader in sports ESPN to broadcast their Fights Nights exclusively on their platform. The world leaders in MMA have an interesting month ahead of them with Jon Jones coming back from his one-year USADA suspension and a rumored Flyweight championship bout between champion Henry Cejudo taking on Bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw to headline the first UFC on ESPN card. The world leaders in MMA have an interesting future ahead of the one that can shape a generation. Let's not forget other promotions as Bellator made history signing an exclusive broadcasting deal with streaming service DZAN worth 1 billion dollars to have the rights to air all their shows. By the end of the contract, the MMA landscape will now have two companies worth more than a billion. With this increase in cash can Bellator lure some fighter on the UFC rosters to theirs? Let's not forget the PFL has also signed a deal with ESPN to air their shows. Asian promotions like One Championship plus Rizin look to regrow the popularity of MMA in Asia with One Championship accruing talents like Eddie Alvarez, Demetrious Johnson, Sage Northcutt along with plenty of cash rumouredly left in the bag to sign more it's not impossible to suspect that One will have a serious rise in popularity. Rizin is headed by the former CEO of PRIDE Nobuyuki Sakakibara looking to bring back the magic which made PRIDE the number 1 MMA organization in the world. Regional promotions like KSW and the LFA look to become big players as well currently in talks with accruing some PPV deals. The future generation of MMA looks to be an exciting one. [Disclaimer]: My 4 days of retirement is over and I'm here with a new thread that will look to be more visually appealing than any of my previous ones. I'm currently messing around with photo editing software so don't be shy if you have any critiques I'm looking to improve any way I can I'm all ears. This thread I hope will be a mixture of my previous two hope you all enjoy and I hope these files don't get corrupted like the last ones.

  8. Hello everyone definitely not how I pictured this thread ending but this will, unfortunately, be the last post I will be able to make in this thread as my Database for An MMA Golden Age plus all the back-up save files I had for it have all been corrupted. Not sure how this happened but as Max Holloway says "It is what it is". Been spending the last 2 days trying to recover and fix everything but it hasn't worked. I want to thank you all for reading, predicting, and keeping up with An MMA Golden Age, I will probably make a new thread sometime in the near future but for now, I wish you all the best have a wounder day, afternoon, or evening. In round 1 however, it looked like Jackson would retain his title whilst adding another 1st round knock-out to his record to start the fight Rua was pressuring Jackson keeping him on the back foot the two both wanted to counter strike so the 1st minute was spent mostly with the two feinting. Rua was the first to land offering a jab then ducked under Jackson’s straight to land a looping right-hook he tried to finish the combination with a head kick but was countered by a powerful overhand that landed clean. Rua shook his head taunting ‘Rampage’ but he was clearly hurt as ‘Shogun’ would immediately clinch up. Rua tried to push Jackson against the cage but the incredible strength of Quinton Jackson was able to easily push him off as he unloaded with a flurry of wild hooks, one of them hit Rua clean on the chin one immediately landing another hooka after that that hit right behind the ear. Rua was on rubbery legs only able to stand up by leaning on the cage of the octagon he attempted to cover up but a straight split his guard followed by a grazing right hook. Although credit has to be given to Rua for covering up well blocking most of the fight ending bombs Jackson was throwing his way as he eventually circled out, Jackson still in attack mode would walk straight into a furious head kick that landed clean followed by an uppercut then Rua took his back to complete a big slam the last 30 seconds of the fight was spent on the mat. Despite an exciting round 1 the next 4 would be fairly one-sided as Rua’s corner was able to get Rua to clear his head and fight the smart fight. The rest of the round was spent with Rua constantly on the counter only using straight strikes as he feared hooks would allow Jackson to get in close whenever the fight was at a standstill he would chop down the champ with leg kicks landing the most leg kicks in a title fight with 59 in total. Rua also used a jab to the head than straight to the body to keep Jackson at distance a few times Jackson nearly timed a perfect uppercut to end the fight when Rua dipped his head down to throw the body shot but the previous leg kicks would halt his movement making all his strikes painfully easily for Rua to see. While the Brazilian crowd cheered the crowning of a new champion from Brazil the now former champion and his team voiced their displeasure with Rua’s victory in the post-fight press conference. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> “He’ll never be a respected champion like me, I won my belt by standing with and knocking out the most feared striker in UFC history [Chuck Liddell]. The UFC heavily favored Belfort in the lead-up getting most of the spotlight in the marketing for the bout and with 10 seconds within the 1st round, the UFC nearly got their wish as Belfort landed a vicious combination that started with a jab right hook, then jab left hook flying knee to knock down his opponent following with hammerfists nearly finishing the whole fight. Leben would stand up back was tangled into the muay-thai clinch being on the wrong side of two brutal elbows to open two cuts above Lebens left eye but when Leben would escape from the clinch he then cracked the Brazilian with an overhand to the chin followed by a grazing head kick that opened a cut on the forehead of Vitor. The two continued to trade shots Beloft creamed Lebern with a one-two then tried a roundhouse kick to the body that was caught by Leben who countered with a clean lead right elbow which clearly hurt Belfort who tried to throw a straight to keep Leben away but Chris would pull his head back then blast Belfort with an overhand while Belfort's guard was down and in a sick twist of fates Leben would finish Belfort with hammer fists to get the first-round victory as well as Fight of The Night award. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><img alt="02gghTk.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/02gghTk.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> Post-fight Leben admitted this was the "sweetest victory of my career" feeling the promotion was attempting to put him to the side as being on a two-fight skid he felt a third straight loss on the last fight on his contract would tank his value but luckily for him he now enters free agency with a lot of leverage. Many are calling robbery with Paulo Filho unanimous decision victory over Chael Sonnen the American Greco-Roman wrestler put on a high pace that had Filho confused as he dominated the first round landing frequently sloppy hooks as well as dirty boxing throughout the first round securing it with a late takedown. Not a lot happened in the 2nd but Chael was the aggressor his dirty boxing briefly had some success but with 30 seconds left in the round, Filho was able to tie-up then get a trip takedown. Round 3 Sonnen starts out strong as Filho who attempted a one-two that missed badly left him open to being taken down by single-leg from Chael grabbed mount many times throughout the 3rd but with a minute left a beautiful scramble allowed the Brazilian to take Sonnen’s back after a few more scrambles from side-control he unleashed some slicing elbows which clearly hurt Sonnen as Filho grabbed mount he started throwing some ruthless ground n’ pound. No matter what fans make of the result fact is Filho is still undefeated and has called out champion Anderson Silva for a fight in Brazil to settle who is the best Middleweight not in the country of Brazil but the entire world. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> After his brutal knockout win over Matt Hamill at ‘UFC 72: Silva vs. Henderson’ Houston Alexander would call out rising Brazilian Light-Heavyweight Lyoto Machida proclaiming he would fight Machida anywhere, “it doesn't matter where I’ll fight him anywhere even in Brazil” well Alexander would get his wish and for it, he would be knocked out 36 seconds into the 1st. After a front kick to the body that landed by Machida, Houston Alexander attempted to respond with a furious right hook to which Machida simply pulled back then KO’d his opponent with a quick uppercut. To wrap up the main-card American BJJ expert Joe Lauzon edged out a very close split decision against Gesias Cavalcante much to the displeasure of the crowd round was spent with Cavalcante easily pushing Lauzon against the cage piercing him up with straight punches then briefly clinched to unload with knees, whenever Lauzon attempted to reverse position the Brazilian would always wisely disengage then re-engage. Round 2 started in a stalemate until Cavalcante shot for a double-legged takedown he would get it but Lauzon would sink in a guillotine choke that got scarlet close to finishing the fight that Cavalcante just managed to escape, this is the said round that came into question of who won the fight as Cavalcante had a total of 4:01 control time on the mat but Lauzon was busy on the bottom constantly striking off his back with punches and elbows once which opened a cut on Cavalcante forehead plus Lauzon come close with 2 submission attempts like the guillotine mentioned before as well as a triangle-choke with 20 seconds left in the fight which again seemed deep but Cavalcante again escape with only 2 seconds left on the clock. Round 3 would be a definitive round for Lauzon who found his distance while striking often using body shots with hooks plus knees then transitioned to the head with looping punches whenever Cavalcante clinched up it was now Lauzon who won the majority of the dirty boxing exchanges which his opponent dominated in round 1 with. The decision has divided many but nonetheless Joe Lauzon has walked away with another victory on his road to a possible shot at the Lightweight title. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong>------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------</strong></div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><img alt="t04FP3R.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/t04FP3R.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><div style="margin-left:25px;"><strong><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="text-decoration:underline;">[Headline Two]: ‘WEC 32: Swanson v. style="margin-left:25px;"> The face of the WEC Featherweight champion Urijah Faber has been booked to defend against Cub Swanson both will be fighting in their hometown of California both are coming off quick 1st round finishes in their last fight and both have started a mild rivalry between the two. Swanson has been very vocal about finally getting his shot at the title claiming he’s gonna “take what is rightfully mine” promising a first-round knockout. Faber has seen the comments by Swanson and says that Swanson is just jealous of his success, </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> “You see all the comments he’s [Cub Swanson] made. He acts like I’ve stolen s**t from him he seems to be feeding off negative energy unleashing it all at me to try and mess with me I guess. But that isn’t gonna work while he fuels himself with hatred, jealousy, and all those other things. I'm fueled by positive energy. I love life and what I do. When you feed off negative emotions like he does the only outcome is a quick finish he reminds me of that [Dominick] Cruz kid who just acted like a d**k for the sake of it he just wasn’t an overall positive person and you see what I did to him”. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> - Urijah Faber</div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> This has drawn a few backs and forward verbal jabs in the media with Swanson calling Faber a “fake champion” with Faber saying Swanson is “lying to himself with the ‘fake champion’ claim”. Putting the verbal combat aside, the actual combat between the two is a very interesting match-up Faber is mostly a wrestler/BJJ fighter who has an ever-developing stand-up while Swanson is a striker with an ever-developing base in wrestling/BJJ. Stand-up wise the advantage does go to Cub Swanson but the power advantage does go to Faber with his lighting fast overhand. BJJ wise you’d have to think Faber has the advantage but both have very good guillotines which both often use whenever they get taken down, it’ll be very interesting to see who engages first on the wrestling side as either man could be at the end of a very tight submission chokehold. While not as high-profile as the Featherweight championship the Bantamweight championship bout with reigning champ Chase Beebe against challenger Jeff Curran should be a very interesting challenge for the young champ. Chase Beebe is a 22-year-old wrestling sensation who has mashed-up most of his opponents only suffering 1 loss in his 11 fights, he also is a pretty big Bantamweight as he could possibly be fighting at Lightweight with his frame plus size at 5’7”. But his opponent Jeff Curran is one of the most experienced Bantamweight fighters around with 40 fights to his name, a solid striker plus a black-belt in BJJ the oddsmakers have this at an event (-110) for both fighters. The rest of the card ain’t that really exciting to analyze but with a big performance on what could be the biggest WEC event of the year some serious name value can be gained from some regionally recognized fighters. </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><p></p><div style="margin-left:25px;"> </div><img alt="7FJMPtE.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/7FJMPtE.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p>
  13. 2007 September Week 1 Recap [Headline One]: UFC 76: Liddell vs. Bonnar booked for November Week 2 UFC to host the first event ever in the state of Missouri for ‘The Ice-Mans’ return ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main-Event: Light-Heavyweight: Chuck Liddell (20-4) vs. Stephan Bonnar (10-4) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Co-Main: Heavyweight: Andrei Arlovski (12-5) vs. Brandon Vera (8-0) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main-Card: Middleweight: Evan Tanner (32-6) vs. Patrick Cote (9-4) Middleweight: Thales Leites (11-1) vs. Alan Belcher (11-4) Welterweight: Yoshihiro Akiyama (9-1-1NC) vs. Drew Fickett (30-5) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prelims: Welterweight: Chris Lytle (22-14-5) vs. Jon Fitch (16-2-1NC) Welterweight: Ben Saunders (4-0-2) vs. Pete Spratt (15-11) Light-Heavyweight: Mike Nickels (5-1) vs. Hector Ramirez (7-2-1) Lightweight: Mac Danzig (17-4-1) vs. Spencer Fisher (19-3) Welterweight: Dan Hornbuckle (12-1) vs. Marcus Davis (11-3) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ‘The Ice-Man’ Chuck Liddell to action after suffering a devastating knock-out loss in his rematch to current Light-Heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson in the 1st round not only would he drop to 0-2 against ‘Rampage’ but he also dropped his Light-Heavyweight title. Liddell admitted the loss was 'very hard to swallow’. “It’s hard for me to admit what happened, at times I just can’t deal with it. I refuse to accept it even happened but life goes and so does my career my goal, for now, is to fight him [Quinton Jackson] again. I don’t really care if it's for the championship or not I want to fight him [Quinton Jackson] and beat him it doesn't sit with me right that I’m 0-2 against him” - Chuck Liddell He’ll have the chance to make his case to get a third fight with Jackson if he can get a win against The Ultimate Fighter season 1 runner-up Stephan Bonnar on a two-fight skid himself as he looks to get back on the winning track. Bonnar has repeatedly stated he wants a ‘war’ throughout the lead-up as he thinks Liddell’s knockout loss to Jackson is a potential career-changing moment, ‘when it comes to war I’m the best at that. I don’t think Chuck can handle going through that type of wasteland in my opinion’. The UFC has gone ahead and stacked the entire card from the Main-event to the opening prelim bout with some very interesting and high-level fights starting with the undefeated Brazilian Brandon Vera wants to put his name in the hat for the next possible challenger to the winner of the eventually rescheduled bout of Couture vs Emelianenko for a shot at the title with a victory over a former champion like Andrei Arlovski a definitive win would make it hard to deny Vera a title-shot. Vera is one of the very few Heavyweights in the world that consistently uses kicks into his offense along with a decorated background in muay-thai he is picturing a perfect shutout against the former champ. Arlovski is currently on a 2-fight win streak after losing his belt to Tim Slyvia then losing to him again in their trilogy bout but with wins over Marico Cruz and Fabrico Werdum along with a new champion in the division he is once again on the cusp of fighting for UFC gold. ‘I have everything it takes to be champion again’ is a line Arlovski repeatedly said throughout the build-up his background in boxing plus sambo wrestling could help in creating a dynamic game-plan against Vera. Evan Tanner a lethal submission wrestler with some pretty high-level BJJ takes on Canadian kickboxing specialist Patrick Cote who has struggled in the UFC going (1-4) while he did win his last bout Cote still feels his job is on the line and is willing to go all out to prove he belongs in the UFC. He will undoubtedly have to control the distance plus the pace of the fight as he can’t allow Tanner to get close. Another Brazilian contender looking to become the next challenger for a possible title-shot is Middleweight Thales Leites one of the better BJJ black-belts in the entire UFC he is currently developing his striking as he has some decent power but he faces a very talented muay-thai striker in Alan Belcher who has recently moved to 10th planet jiu-jitsu to counteract Leites BJJ. Eddie Bravo has said Belcher’s rubber-guard has been developed surprisingly quickly and Belcher could very well become one of the better BJJ fighters in the UFC very soon. Finally, let's round out the last main-card fight plus the headliner of the prelims in two high-valued Welterweight fights. Drew Fickett is one of the most underrated and lesser-known contenders in the divisions mainly because of his low-risk grinder style of fighting with very poor striking a lot of his wins are underwhelming decisions he takes on a very high-level Judo fighter in Japan’s Yoshihiro Akiyama while he also has a majority of his wins by decision he is a constant in your face fighter who likes to overpower his opponents with a lot of slams. Speaking of some low-risk-grinders Jon Fitch headlines the prelims currently (5-0) in the UFC, Chris Lytle has been very vocal about he is the one to hand Fitch’s first loss in the promotion. “I don’t know how to describe it but I see me finishing him with a guillotine. I don’t know-how, what round, but I know it’s going to happen”. - Chris Lytle ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Headline Two]: Strikeforce announces Light-Heavyweight tournament for October Week 2 Strikeforce will hold the first one night tournament in US since UFC 17 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Finals: Light-Heavyweight: TBA vs. TBA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Semi-Finals: *[bracket A]* Light-Heavyweight: TBA vs. TBA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *[bracket B]* Light-Heavyweight: TBA vs. TBA ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Qualifiers: *[bracket A]* Light-Heavyweight: Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (13-3) vs. Alex Schoenauer (13-8) Light-Heavyweight: Kyle Kingsbury (7-0-1NC) vs. Ryan Bader (3-0) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *[bracket B]* Light-Heavyweight: Jaime Fletcher (7-0) vs. Ricardo Romero (0-0) Light-Heavyweight: Vitor Miranda (0-0) vs. Bill Mahood (16-6-1-1NC) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prelims Welterweight: Dennis Hallman (44-12-2-1NC) vs. Jesse Taylor (3-1) Heavyweight: Travis Wiuff (44-10) vs. Paul Buentello (25-9) Middleweight: Ryan McGivern (10-4) vs. Jason Miller (23-5) Lightweight: Eric Wisley (6-1) vs. Nik Lentz (9-3) Lightweight: Paul Kelly (4-0) vs. Clint Coronel (2-2) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Not since 1998 has there been a one-night tournament held in the US by a nationally recognized organization but that ends on October Week 2 as Scott Coker has announced the first of what is expected to be a yearly one-night tournament for the Strikeforce brand. The Light-Heavyweight division will take center stage but some have questioned the name-value of the tournament as there is only one decently popular fighter on the card that of course being Antonio Rogerio Nogueira the brother to former PRIDE Heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Coker responded to these claims by stating, “Often during one-night tournaments, we see a fighter who no one has never been heard of rising to the top and create a name for themselves, that's the beauty of a one-night tournament were either gonna see the establishment at 205 pounds continue to run the division or we’ll see the rise of the next generations of fighters in the division”. - Scott Coker Nogueira is the heavy favorite to the whole tournament turning 31 a couple of months ago he is entering his prime with wins over some of the sports best like Alistair Overeem (x2), Kazushi Sakuraba, Guy Mezger, Dan Henderson, and most recently got a split decision win in his Strikeforce debut against Alex Schoenauer at ‘Strikeforce: Rua vs. Sakuraba’. His opponent Alex Schoenauer much like Nogueira likes to roll spending most of his time on the mat which will likely result in the better BJJ fighter winning although Noeguira has started to polish his boxing over his past few fights. The other 'Bracket A' fight is between two undefeated Light-Heavyweight prospects Kyle Kingsbury recently signed a 4 fight deal with Strikeforce previously he had won The King of the Cage Light-Heavyweight championship via UD (50-45x3). Kingsbury is a longtime member under AKA coached by Javier Mendez he is possibly the most accomplished kickboxer in the tournament with some very good takedown defense that leads to his solid muay-thai clinch. He is facing a top wrestling heavy prospect in Ryan Bader who like mentioned before prefers to wrestle but he can pack a big punch. The question is can he land against such a striking expert against Kingsbury who trains with such an accomplished MMA team? Jaime Fletcher is yet another undefeated Light-Heavyweight prospect willing to put his record on the line to in quote ‘finally get the name recognition I deserve’ the 30-year gold America submission wrestler is a very busy fighter on the mat constantly looking to submit his opponent also be wary as he likes to throw in a few head kicks out of nowhere from time to time. His opponent is making his debut with the relatively unknown Ricardo Romero reports saying he is a very talented wrestler but not much else is unknown one question how Romero got into this tournament but the question is pretty simple as apparently his manager and Strikeforce promoter Scott Coker go way back so the pieces of the puzzle start to come together. The final fight on the main-card and 2nd bout in 'Bracket B' will be between the 40-year-old Bill Mahood a veteran of the sport and the 28-year-old Vitor Miranda an accomplished muay-thai fighter who is making his transition to MMA. A very powerful striker Miranda is very much the dark horse of the whole tournament while lacking in MMA experience his background in muay-thai makes him the most dangerous striker in the whole tournament on top of that he has been training in BJJ for 3 years under Renzo Gracie earning a blue-belt in the process. Despite being 40 Bill Hahood has explained he feels 20 still enjoying training and fighting, primarily a striker Bill Mahood is hoping his huge age advantage will be the difference maker that leads him to win the entire tournament.

Nearly executing on a single-leg takedown Overeem excellently defend the takedowns by quickly dropping the knee Mir had a hold to the canvas while extending his other leg behind him loosening Mir’s grip as Overeem was able to grab the collar-tie as he was able to grab a hold of Mir into the muay-thai clinch a two got up it didn’t take long for Overeem to unleash a quick knee to the head which put the former Heavyweight champions lights-out. It was of course a hard pill for Mir to swallow as it isn’t as if he made any glaring mistakes even the takedown attempt wasn’t a bad idea in theory, while he kept a poker face while being interview by Joe Rogan giving the standard ‘I’ll be back’ type of answers he would leave the octagon with a towel covering his entire face and wouldn’t attend the press-conference being rushed to hospital where he has been handed out a 7-month medical suspension. Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson also put a quick end to his brief rivalry with Dan ‘The Hitman’ Hardy despite barely making weight at 171-pounds looking rather pale weighing-in an uppercut sent Hardy down as ‘The Hitman’ attempted a ducking type jab. The Brit did an excellent job defending some rapid punches but Johnson would quickly grab full-mount while Hardy was defending punches then finished him with elbows from the mount, Johnson would state after his quick win he intended to stay at Welterweight for awhile putting a move-up in weight on hold as he described he found the ‘perfect nutritionist’ while in training camp. Kenny Florian grinded out a very technical gameplan to get a split-decision against Leonard Garcia in the co-main by following a very safe game-plan by constating pressure-grappling pushing Garcia to the fence looking for takedowns while also implementing some dirty boxing. Garcia’s general weakness for being put on the backfoot was on full display as he seemed uncomfortable but his takedown defense was impeccable as he stuffed 18 out of 19 attempted takedowns, the fact that the fight was even scored 29-28 in his favor with one judge giving the fight to Garcia is a head-scratcher but there would be no robbery going down in Las Vegas tonight at least. The Fight of the Night winner went to Krzysztof Sosynski and James Irvin in a very fun grappling affair Sosynski nearly got the sub less than a minute into the fight after quickly clinching up Sosynski hit Irvin with some quick close elbows than in a flash pulled guard securing a guillotine. But with it being applied too fast Sosynski wasn’t able to get the choke in correctly as he let go Irvin burst into life taking advantage of his top position to grab full-mount then rain down punishment as Sosynski did his best to survive a full minute of brutal ground n’ pound from the guard then it was Sosynski turn to escape from a tight guillotine as James Irvin also wouldn’t apply to submission correctly. Sosynski would push Irvin off with both his feet as the two exchanged in a last-minute stand-up affair both were cautious both using body kicks to find the range but Irvin would land an excellent two hooks to the body then fake another body hook by going upstairs that punch put him against the fence where Irvin went wild with looping punches which were mostly blocked by Sosynski as the round ended. Round two starts Sosynski barely ducks a huge right hook with some serious pop on it as he shots and gets a double-legged takedown but Irvin was able to get to his feet but Sosynski was still on him as he was unloading with bus-driver uppercuts as he had Irvin trapped against the fence. A beautiful sweep but had Sosynski taking his Irvin’s back but Irving would scramble as his opponent tried to grab the rear-naked choke as it was now Irvin how held Sosynski back, after some brief punches from the top Irvin would find himself mostly in half-guard as Sosynski was doing well to deny a lot of transitions. While the fight started to low down Sosynski quickly grabbed the armbar Irvin would slam him attempting to escape but it would only tighten Sosynski grip who would get the technical-submission as Irvin refused to tap. The undercard also had some really good performances worth mentioning like the unbeaten Canadian Lightweight prospect Mark Bocek who put on one of the most one-sided beatdowns in UFC history mauling his opponent going 6 for 6 on takedowns Bocek would also defend all 7 takedowns attempted against while also having a huge advantage in strikes landed with a 75 to 11 difference. Drew McFedries the winner of Knockout of the Night does so by entering the Matrix not getting hit with a single recorded strike the finishing sequence came after slipping a 10 punch combination of mostly hooks by Scot Smith but the last punch would be a spinning back fist, McFedries would pull his head back to slip then knockout Smith with a simple cross right to the chin as Smith had his guard down while spinning. He would put the entire Middlewiehgt division on notice by challenging champion Anderson Silva but he has a long way to go before even making a championship bid probably the bare minimum of 5 wins away from receiving one. The last thing of note was the opening bout of the prelims as Mike Russow has broken Chris Tuchscherer undefeated record first round Tuchscherer grabbed a takedown to win round 1, Mike Russow grabbed the takedown to win round 2 as the two went into the third all evened up both who primarily followed wrestling base game-plans threw it all out the window as the last round saw the two exclusively stand. With two wrestlers engaging in mostly a boxing match it went about how many excepted with the two throwing haymakers with little technique the two would miss most of their punches but Russow was able to get in some bodywork when he could while Tuchscherer was exclusively headhunting which probably got him the nod on the judge's scorecards. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Headline Two]: Pancrase announces Brock Lesnar’s debut fight for September Week 4 Brock Lesnar to make MMA debut against former UFC champ Ricco Rodriguez ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main-Event Heavyweight: Brock Lesnar (0-0) vs. Ricco Rodriguez (26-6) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Co-Main Lightweight: Daisuke Nakamura (12-9) vs. Mizuto Hirota (6-1) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main-Card Welterweight: Yuta Watanabe (7-2-4) vs. Hideohiko Hasegawa (14-8-3) Featherweight: Koichiro Matsumoto (3-0) vs. Miki Shida (13-4-2) Light-Heavyweight: Veron White (25-29-2) vs. Christian M’Pumbu (6-0) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prelims Middleweight: Nobuhiro Tsurmaki (1-12-1) vs. Aziz Karaoglu (4-3) Heavyweight: Wes Shivers (0-0) vs. Rolles Gracie (0-0) Middleweight: Mario Miranda (1-0) vs. Francis Carmont (11-5) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ When a fighter makes his MMA debut often they usually face someone with the same amount of experience often it’ll be two debuting fighters facing each other or someone with no more than five wins. But WWE superstar Brock Lesnar will be facing a man who has 32 more fights than him plus a former UFC Heavyweight champion and a training partner to former UFC Light-Heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz, Lesnar will face Ricco Rodriguez at the Super Saitama Arena. Rodriguez has a very similar skillset to Ortiz but is more effective in his submission wrestling as he has multiple submission wins often favoring the armbar plus with this being Heavyweight he has some solid punching power, but too often does Rodriuez crumble under such high profile bouts after winning the championship from Randy Couture after champion Josh Barnett vacated due to a drug test failure Rodriguez went on a 3-fight skid although it should be mention on of those fights against Antonio Nogueira at ‘PRIDE Total Elimination 2003’ in one of the only cross promotion events the UFC as ever done is considered one of the biggest robberies in MMA history. But generally besides his bout with Couture he tends to underperform in high stakes match-ups like these now Brock Lesnar has made it very well known what he intends to do in debut ‘take him down then smash his head through the canvas’. The rest of the card is pretty thin in terms of name value as Pancrase will be riding on the hype for the debut of Brock Lesnar but there are some solid prospects on the card which could make the event more exciting than originally thought. Mizuto Hirota a 26-year-old Japanese Lightweight has gained some hype in Japan for his never say die attitude, technical striking who likes to favor mixing his punches up with some savage kicks. His opponent Daisuke Nakamura is a journeyman fighter in all honesty his striking is below par but he is good at entangling his opponents into the muay-thai clinch to land some dirty boxing then drag his opponents to the floor an area of fighting we haven’t seen Hirota in before. Christian M’Pumbu is one of the few fighters native to France who competes in MMA a country where MMA is outlawed due to this M’Pumbu only real strength is his boxing with it being one of the only martial arts he can legally learn which is why he has moved base to the Netherlands to train with Heavyweight Alistair Overeem to become a more well-rounded fighter, Veron White is an MMA veteran despite holding a negative record it can be deceiving as he is more than capable of hanging with top fighters in some ways White a very well-rounded fighter is the exact type of fighter Christian M’Pumbu is training to become. Lastly, Rolles Gracie a member of the legendary Gracie family makes his MMA debut as a multiple-time gold medalist in BBJ plus Judo he was ranked the number 1 BJJ fighter in North America in 2005. Renzo Gracie has had high praise for the upcoming Rolles Gracie who has proclaimed he is ‘the next great Heavyweight’ superstar and ‘the guy to beat Fedor’. “He is a champion in every aspect of fighting. It's incredible what he does in the gym. He is the greatest Heavyweight I have ever seen. He is the closest to Rickson [Gracie] in how good he is at Gracie-jiu-jitsu. I’m gonna say something that's controversial that isn’t gonna be controversial in a couple of years when he beats him but he can easily dominate Fedor [emelianenko], [Randy] Couture, plus both the Noguiera brothers I think he dominates them all he’ll go down as the greatest Heavyweight in MMA history. Dana White, I hope your watching because you better get this man a contract very soon or else you’ll miss out”. - Renzo Gracie

  20. 2007 August Week 3 Recap [Headline One]: UFC 76 announced for September Week 3 in New Mexico Matt Serra to make first defense against former-longtime champion Matt Hughes ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main-Event Welterweight: [CHAMP] Matt Serra (10-4) vs. Matt Hughes (42-5) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Co-Main Heavyweight: Tim Sylvia (23-3) vs. Mirko Cro Cop (22-5-2) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Main-Card Lightweight: Deigo Sanchez (17-1) vs. Roger Huerta (17-1-1-NC) Welterweight: Roan Carneiro (12-5) vs. Tom Speer (12-1) Welterweight: Keita Nakamura (15-2-2) vs. Dustin Hazelett (8-3) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prelims Heavyweight: Antoni Hardonk (5-3) vs. Colin Robinson (8-3) Welterweight: Luigi Fioravanti (11-2) vs. Pete Sell (7-3) Middleweight: Tony Bonello (15-0-1NC) vs. Floyd Sword (10-2) Middleweight: Ryan Jensen (11-1) vs. Alessio Sakara (12-5-1NC) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ UFC Welterweight champion Matt Serra will make his first title defense in New Mexico against a former champion in Matt Hughes who previously held the title twice already looking to reclaim it a third time after dropping it to George St-Pierre at UFC 65. Currently holding the record for the most title-defenses in the divisions history with 7, surprising Hughes comes into the fight as a (+180) underdog a strong Greco-Roman base wrestler with a powerful slam plus rear-naked chokehold Hughes is already widely recognized as the greatest Welterweight in UFC history Matt who isn’t a huge talker has been vocal about how Serra will probably be the 'easiest opponent' he has faced in a title-fight. “He’s not that skilled to be completely honest. I know this sounds disrespectful and all but I'm not trying to be, I just feel I’m telling the truth as I’ve faced the top of the division for years. I look at him [Matt Serra]. I just don’t see much of a challenge. I hope I’m wrong but I think this is gonna be easy for me”. - Matt Hughes While Hughes said himself he didn’t intend any disrespect, Serra wasn’t having any of it going off on the former champion leading up to the event. “He’s [Matt Hughes] old, washed up, also do any of you notice how he pretends to be a good person? He likes to show himself off as this golden boy but I see right through his bulls**t act, he is just a d**k a faker and after I’m done with him a loser”. - Matt Serra Although a bit of a cheesy trash talker Serra looks to cap off an incredible 2007 as he has already secured the upset of the year with a 1st round KO win over GSP with adding a victory over the divisions GOAT would probably secure him the fighter of the year award as well. A heavy-handed Welterweight who has recently been given his black-belt in BJJ under Renzo Gracie it’s not outrageous to think Serra can retain his title as Hughes in his last championship bout was soundly beat by GSP who like mentioned before was soundly beat by Serra. Two Heavyweight down on their luck will look for a turnaround in the co-main event former two-time UFC Heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia is coming off a one-sided beatdown against current champion Randy Couture by unanimous decision, a solid balanced fighter who isn’t necessarily elite in any area of MMA but has a solid base in boxing, wrestling, BJJ, muay-thai and others forms of combat. His best hopes of defeating an elite kickboxer like Cro Cop probably revolves a game-plan of pressure fighting, possibly grappling with Cro Cop to grind out a decision but after Cro Cop’s recent knockout loss, Sylvia could feel he can stand and bang with the Croatian. Mirk Cro Cop looks to bounce back from a devastating first-round head kick knockout against Gabriel Gonzaga in a title-eliminator, a former PRIDE Open-weight Grand Prix champion (2006) plus a multiple time K1 champion the Croatian legend has had his future being called into question as he has started to be label a glass cannon by some. Cro Cop has said he has been inspired by Wanderlei SIlva’s quick return to form saying how he wants to emulate the same success as the Brazilian. The rest of the fights are more well known by the hardcore MMA fans but not really the casual ones however to mention a few ‘The Nightmare’ Deigo Sanchez will be fighting in front of his hometown in New Mexico dropping down to Lightweight after losing to Josh Koscheck by decision at Welterweight when asked about his return to Lightweight and his opponent he told reporters he didn’t ‘know a single fighters name, proclaiming ‘no style can beat me, my loss to Koscheck was a once in a lifetime moment a flicker that reminded people they had witnessed a moment in history’. Roger Huerta who has gone 3-0 in his 3 fights with the UFC including an 18-second knockout has gone to call Sanchez a 'reject looney tunes character’ both actually used to train at Jackson Wink MMA but the gym sided with ‘The Nightmare' Diego Sanchez. Huerta has called it a ‘betrayal of my trust’ however he said the move to a more private gym has ‘awoken a new beast inside me’. Comparing the two to each other both like to come forward being the aggressor while Sanchez holds a wrestling advantage the power plus muay-thai advantage belongs to Huerta, the fight will probably come down to how Sanchez will utilize his wrestling in the fight. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ [Headline Two]: MMA Rivalries: Tito Ortiz vs. Wanderlei Silva Tension continues to boil as Ortiz vs. Silva 2 rumored for early 2008 Wanderlei Silva continues to enjoy his most recent return to form which has come with a lot of media attention his knockout over Forrest Griffin has got a substantial amount of views on Youtube as well as his call out of two former champions Chuck Liddell plus Tito Ortiz. While originally the Liddell fight was the one many fans wanted him to fight next it seems a rematch between Tito Ortiz and Wanderlei will either headline or be the co-main event for a potential PPV card in 2008 as the two were part of a nuclear back and forward battle of words. They first fought each other at UFC 25 (2000) for the vacant Light-Heavyweight belt (at the time known as the Middleweight division) Ortiz would wrestle his way to a one-sided unanimous decision to win the title when both had yet to establish themselves as the all-time greats they are both known as today. Silva would sign with PRIDE after the loss became known as ‘The Axe Murder’ in Japan holding the most wins in the history of PRIDE as well as being the former Middleweight champ. Ortiz would go on to defend the belt a record 5-times with wins over Ken Shamrock, Evan Turner, Yuki Kondo, and many others. While he is currently on a 2 fight skid with losses to Randy Couture and Chuck Liddell his brash often cringe attitude has allowed him to stay relevant in the MMA landscape. “You can’t compare us for one simple reason I am a real champion he [Wanderlei Silva] is a faker an actor, we all know what they do in Japan every single outcome of every single fight was settled way before it even started. The last real fight he was in was with me not that bum [Forrest] Griffin who lost after eating one punch, I made him [Wanderlei Silva] my b**ch and I’ll make him my b**ch again. My goal is to make him retire from the embarrassment of losing to me a 2nd time it’s gonna be so much fun.” - Tito Ortiz Of course, these comments would draw a furious response from ‘The Axe Murder’ which mostly was a repeat of what he said in his post-fight interview at UFC 74 with Joe Rogan mostly going over how Ortiz quits whenever the fight gets too rough pointing out how he tapped to strikes against Frank Shamrock while also pointing out how he couldn’t back up any of his trash talk about Liddell and it will be the same when he knocks him out. While Dana was more interested in the Liddell match-up like many fans he has probably seen the amount of potential profit a match-up between the two could generate with the winner probably going on to face Liddell. “A fight between Tito [Ortiz] plus [Wanderlei] Silva is a once in a generation fight we got to see it way before its prime but now like Bruce says it's times. In 50 years this will be one of those fights people will look back on and remember, this is one those must-see fights all fans have to watch”. - Dana White
