  1. Could the WWE be doing any better job at pumping up WWE NXT? Along with that, the hype surrounding Daniel Bryan (had to make myself do that) is being played up great. I've been waiting all week to see what this show is about, I hope it doesnt disappoint.

Anyone have any idea on exactly WHAT the show is? Will we see matches? Will it be Tought Enough? Hogan's Celeberity Wrestling? or The Ultimate Fighter?

  2. Yeah, it started at St. Augustine high school in New Orleans and it went from there to the LSU Tigers to the Saints.

Who dat! Who dat! Who dat say they gonna beat them saints! Who dat!

And if I hear one more analyst talk about us wearing bags on our heads i'm going to flip out. We haven't done that in 30 years!

I heard that it came from the Junkyard Dog initially, who got it from somewhere else maybe... who probably got it some where else.

But JYD brought it to the territory back in the gap.

  3. If you can believe the dirt sheets, it looks like WWE NXT is going to be portrayed as a "reality" based series. And while it could very well be a Tough Enough 2.0, I highly doubt this to be the case. I really can't see WWE really giving us a true reality show again since wrestling is all about characters and personas. They might have gotten a good amount of talent from the series, but it too a while since the wrestlers needed time to work on their craft and have people forget that they were on Tough Enough. Instead I think they are just going to be using more realistic angles to build up the feuds.

For example lets say Bryan Danielson (using Danielson since is pretty obvious that the NXT concept was meant for him just as much as the new ECW was meant for CM Punk) and Zack Ryder are feuding for a chance to challenge for WWE Television title (or whatever they are going to use for the top prize in the new brand). To keep it simple, the build up is a promo from each man, an attack angle, and of course the match itself.

Instead of having the promo live and in the ring, I see WWE doing their promos and angles more "on location." So instead of Danielson getting interviewed backstage, he's getting interviewed at a gym while WWE is showing a package of video from the training session. Instead of Ryder insulting the crowd in ring, he's getting interviewed at a club while video of him is shown "beating the beat" and picking a fight with some guy hitting on Rosa. Instead of Ryder jumping from him backstage before their match, you could have the announcers show video footage of Danielson getting beat up in the parking lot of the gym he was training at by Ryder's buddies, Croft and Barreta. The announcers add that because of this footage, Croft and Barreta were suspended for the week (keeping up with the more realistic style of the brand), but wonder if the damage has already been done.

In the end, the "new" style gets to the same end point, just in a different way. I say "new" because if NXT is going to work like I think it is, then the show is going to be formatted closer to how wrestling was presented in the 80s than anything else.

This sounds pretty cool... "promos" could also be done, real world/survivor/big brother, confessional style things.

  4. Wow. Ouch. BIG mistake by TNA, they'll be back on Thursdays before long IMO. Is there a scheduling issue or something that prevents them from being live on Thursday? That would be the next logical step. How bout you do that, then see if you can get your ratings to half of Raw's, and then think about going head to head...or at least make sure you don't get slaughtered the next time you go head to head, when you don't have Hogan's debut bringing in a lot of curious one-time viewers.

I think the problem with being live EVERY week, whatever day... Is part of the TNA's appeal for some guys is the schedule. You work two days in a row, every two weeks, then you got the other time off. Free to be with family, or work other indies... Pretty good no?

  5. Right. But not being able to sell out a small to medium sized venue would be even worse

Until they're certain that they can do Impact in front of a packed haouse, they don't need to hit the road. (not to mention the logistic behindd taping those 'behind the scenes' segments without the stages they specifically built for the Impact Zone)

Yeah, that's what I was saying in my earlier post... They have to wonder if they can sell out a 2000 seat arena for TV. What are their house show numbers? Rarely over 1500, right?

  6. With the talk of all the changes being made cosmetically... The biggest change i think TNA has to make is getting out of the iMPACT Zone. I dont care if it's just in a different local armory in FL every week... The problem I guess with this is the Impact zone is free to get into, so it's sold out every time... But, I personally think it would benefit TNA to take the show on the road.
  7. Be realistic about Lesnar for a second. The UFC is a very profitable promotion. Lesnar is one of their two most bankable and reliable stars based on his PPV drawing power (at a time when drawing power is at a premium for the UFC), plus he's a dominant champion. He's coming off a career-threatening illness. Factor in that it would be undoing all that Lesnar and the UFC have done to distance him from his pro wrestling past. How much is that worth to the UFC? Do you really think there's just a dollar value they can slap on that?

Sure, its fun to consider the possibility... but why not consider Triple H or John Cena walking out on the WWE to show up on TNA! Honestly, its about as realistic...
