  1. For the latter example, you could always pluck people from the Awakening Fighters database. I've found it a good resource for bigger women.
  2. I third just dropping the update. Don't make the perfect the enemy of the good.
  3. I've had bad luck getting some kinds of exotic submissions even from people with the right stats and "[submission type] Master" attributes against ideal opponents.
  4. <blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-username="Blackman" data-cite="Blackman" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="44604" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Less is more in this case. I'd advice not combining ANY of these and just select the appropriate one for your mod. </div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Thanks. Although I don't have an issue with hyper-specialized characters as much because A: I mostly just goof around with quick fights, and B: Part of my project is making non-MMA athletes, who are often going to be more one-dimensional by nature (ie, Queensbury boxers with no kicking ability).</p><p> </p><p> Still will gladly heed your advice to not go overboard on attributes and letting their ratings speak for themselves (esp. if I do play a real sim game), but I don't mind extreme styles if I know that's what I want from them.</p>
  5. I've been getting error messages when I try to import fighters from the OldSchoolMMA mods into other (sandbox) ones. Is the fight engine different or something?
  6. Also, I trust that there's not an issue between loves to roll/wrestle and one of the "decision stall" (L&P/LRG) attributes? Ie, they'll gladly go for a shoot/clinch takedown (depending on their attribute and skill), but once their opponent is on the ground, it's smothering/occasional hitting until the bell?
  7. Speaking of possible conflicts/bonuses, should I mix "Low risk Grinder" and "Lay and Pray". Some of the Fitch/McKee style fighters people have made have both and fight the way you'd expect without incident, but I'm wondering what the real difference is (and if just "lay and pray" is vulnerable to the ref standing them back up)?
  8. Delighted to finally show off my homebrew creations. Fair warning: 1, I'm still pretty new to this game so some of the ratings will probably be out of whack, and 2: These were made primarily for goofing off in the quick fight section, so they'd need modification to be used in "proper" games. That being said, these include my own original creations, fictional characters from other sources, and real non-MMA fighters. They can be pretty eclectic, as I'm weird. As of this post: Original Creations -Aysha Akmadova: Female Caucasian shootfighter in the classic Vale style. Tall so can fill in to higher weight classes if need be. -Craig Callahan: A star mixed martial artist with a knack for using his legs. Plays an important role in the climax of my novel The Sure Bet King. -Fazilat Gulamova: Stocky female Uzbek all-around legend. -Jim "Longstop" Parker: An ex-baseball shortstop and grappler. -Ly Rachany: An alternate version of one of the main characters of The Sure Bet King. Instead of running a gambling business, she's an MMA fighter who has physical durability and little else. -Nasir Hafiz: Nigerian dambe fighter. Since a knockdown in dambe is a loss, he's very poor on the ground. Fictional Characters (non-original) -Big Leviticus: A dirty boxer (in all the meanings of the term) from the Joe Palooka comic strips who prompted one of the weirdest and most vicious cartoonist feuds. Has a knack for kicking people in the head. -Cal "Drei" Devens: From the Phantom of Inferno video game and anime. Was once an innocent girl but became a psychotic, essentially superpowered assassin. -Ellen Ein: One of the main characters of Phantom of Inferno. Is near-unstoppable at atomweight in game. -Fighting Cait: Fallout 4 companion. As a cage fighter in her original game, she was a natural choice. -Gwen Maysfield: A female boxer/circus performer from an old book called The Crimson Flash. Acrobatic. -Kanon Azai: Now we get really weird. She's an ice skater (!) from a visual novel called G-Senjo no Maou. My MMA interpretation is of a talc-chinned speedster whose sole path to winning is dancing and poking around for fifteen minutes and getting a decision. -Leila di Ostia: Minor Fire Emblem character. Glass cannon. -Martell "Too Sweet" Gordone: Hero of the Penitentiary movie series. Both a traditional boxer and a grappler. -Ranger Stella: Another Fallout character, this an NCR ranger forced to fight in the Caesar's Legion ring until she's killed. Extremely strong for her size. Real Non-MMA Fighters -Annie Newton: Early 20th century British female boxer. Agile striker who isn't an offensive grappler but can defend herself. -Beyong Kuk Jeon: South Korean amateur boxer. He will meet the fate of Art Jimmerson against any substantial grappler. -Christy Martin: Legendary women's boxer. Has little (but not no) ground game and excels at standing striking. -Daomayuly "Dee Sao Lao" Chantilath: Female Laotian who's competed in a variety of martial arts competitions. -Elizabeth Wilkinson: Prominent 18th Century female prize fighter, in a field that resembled wrestling more than later boxing. As such is made as a wrestle-first fighter here. -George "High Pockets" Kelly: Baseball player with a weird physique, being tall with extreme T-Rex arms. He can kick. That's about it. -Julissa Gomez: In real life she was a gymnast who died in a tragic accident. Here she had a small growth spurt, grew up, and became a grappler. Can't take a hit but is an amazing submission artist here. -Lucia Rijker: Renowned women's boxer and kickboxer. Here as an excellent strike-first fighter. -Polina Guryeva: Representing Turkmenistan in the 2020 Olympics as a weightlifter, she's basically the kind of person who'd appear in an early MMA bout (with all the weaknesses you'd expect) -Undram Erdenesoyol: Amateur Mongolian female boxer. No ground game, there to fill out the scarce heavier women's divisions. -Veronica Mendoza: Salvadorian judoka. There to take up space in the women's heavier divisions-but is still a credible fighter in her own right. Enjoy! CoilersCombatantsDB.zip
  9. I figured as much. No worries, I know better than to cross the streams, so to speak.
  10. What happens if you give your fighters two contradictory attributes (ie, both loves and hates to strike)?
  11. We think alike, and I'd love to play your database! I'd add a few lighter-weight boxers, like Benny Leonard and Marvin Hagler. Also maybe some American football players who'd be good at takedowns (tackles).
  12. I'm making a "what if" database featuring athletes from other sports turning to MMA. For instance, I have legendary boxer Benny Leonard, who had the agility and intelligence to succeed as a strike-heavy MMA fighter if given enough time, in it as one. It's already very fun, and I'm enjoying making "famous" deliberately bad fighters who just flop around.
  13. Is it possible to do a sort of "semi-sandbox" mode in a scratch-built setting where you have effectively a monopoly with every existing/popular fighter and and a ton of lucrative broadcast deals already signed?
