I heard three names from people 'in the know', one of which later turned out to be hot air.

The other two names out there were Matt Mitrione and Roy Nelson. The reasoning behind the 'Meathead' rumour didn't do it for me, plus he's not what I would call even a 'reasonably major name' - but maybe I'm underestimating what the Kimbo win did for his popularity in the US? Anyway, lots of sites seem to have picked up on the Nelson thing this past week or so.

For anyone who hasn't read it yet, Nelson signed a contract about two years ago with Roy Jones Jr's 'Square Ring Promotions' to compete on their boxing/MMA PPV in March of 09. Turns out that they still have some kind of options on Nelson's career, and are suing Nelson and the UFC. No word on how much merit their case has, but it's serious enough to get him pulled from UFC 125 and to have his UFC career publicly put 'on ice' by Dana White.

So assuming the guy in question was Nelson, what say people to 'Big Country' in the WWE?

I read something about this a while back saying "one of the last guys you'd expect" and Roy is just that for me (given his physique and all).

 2. I hope the two of you are right about it happening within the next 12 months. I've been eager to see this division since the WEC first announced that they were going to add it 2-3 years ago. Johnson and Benavidez are already beasts at bantamweight so it'll be very interesting to see them in their natural weight class. Also, does anyone know if Mackens Semerzier is heading to the UFC or if he got released? He lost three in a row, which is usually a big no-no, but it'd suck to see him cut after his excellent fight last week. I'm asking because I can't find anything about it and they don't usually announce WEC cuts like they do with the UFC.
 3. So, how long do the people here think it'll be before we see the flyweight (125 lb/57 kg/9 stone) division added to the UFC? Do you think they'll end up waiting a couple of years to let the bantamweights and featherweights settle in (and let flyweight get a little deeper) or do you think they'll add it in the near future?
 4. I honestly thought John Hathaway would be the next big thing, so much for that. I guess England is going to need a GSP type super athlete if there's ever going to be an English champ.
 5. Okay then, we'll agree to disagree. But, you wrote Sonnen off before his last fight and even said GSP would lose if I remember correctly. Is it a dislike of wrestlers that you have, do you want to be considered the guy who called an upset before it happened, or do you just buy into the hype?
 6. It's far from just this (even though it does seem to be the general consensus among shertards that Toney will score a KO within seconds). Almost all of your posts stand out to me, mainly because most people on this forum make sense when they post and yours are so sherdog esque.
 7. You log onto sherdog every day don't you? Be honest, I'm not here to judge.
 8. His beating didn't look too bad but apparently he had to leave the arena on a stretcher.
 9. King Mo by decision but hopefully Feijao by brutal KO Jacare by decision Gurgel by submission or decision (Noons is extremely overrated imo and barely got past a can in his last fight) Lashley by TKO
 10. Come on now. EVERY country does their equivalent of this. Canada: GSP! GSP! GSP! (even when he's not fighting) England has a song that they sing Australia: Aussie! Aussie! Aussie!
 11. I don't expect it either, but it would be crazy to rule out a Sonnen victory. I have done that with many other one-dimensional wrestlers only to be proven wrong more times than not. Henderson had the right idea against Silva in the first round only to throw it out the window in the second. He didn't go for a takedown until AFTER being rocked/dropped by a knee from what I remember. Who knows what would have happened had he continued to play it smart. Sonnen definitely won't make the same mistake.
 12. Haha, I watched this hours ago and have spent all my time since watching other Chael related things. It almost makes me hope he wins so it can continue for a while.
 13. ^^^ He said on MMA Live that he had some high level Iranian wrestlers at Wolfslair to help him prepare for Rashad. It would be pretty hard to get much better than that wouldn't it?

Just because they have programming available in 130 countries, doesn't mean that 130 countries get live (or recent) PPV's. A lot of places just get UFC Wired/Unleashed etc and old highlight shows. I wouldn't even know where to begin.

They supposedly do somewhere between 30-50k for the live airings on ESPN in the UK, but the figures aren't readily available. Hell, even the US PPV numbers are unofficial 'guestimates'. There were some semi-legit people claiming that UFC 100 actually did way less than the reported figure, some say as low as 800,000. Only the UFC know for sure.

Your guess is really as good as mine...

That's extremely low. No wonder they get the cards they do.

 16.
brashleyholland

How many viewers does a UFC event usually do worldwide? Their programming is available in 130 countries according to the website.

Take a guess if you don't know.

 17. brashleyholland How is the market in China? Can they really do anything there without some Chinese stars? If not, how much will PUJI Capital have to lose before they pull out?
 18. I always thought HDNet paid M-1 for the right to air the M-1 Challenge. In any case, the whole thing is cool and I hope they can keep it going.
 19. Manhoef, Overeem, Fedor and Barnett are low-end fighters?
 20. I like Mark Hunt but these signings are getting ridiculous. Did the UFC just sign a TV deal in New Zealand that they need him for or something?
 21. "We could have a show [in the U.S.] on Saturday night and five more going on in five other countries." How would this ever work? As far as I know, all the events they do now are shown in the US, UK, Canada and all of their other current markets. Would these be small shows to build up fighters in that area and eventually move the good ones over to the global events kind of like the WWE does with the events that are never shown on TV? 22. I hope they hold off on the fight until December so they can bring back "The Ultimate" this year. Brock vs. Cain GSP vs. Koscheck Chuck vs. Tito 3 Wand vs. Leben
 23. I like Cain very much but he won't win IMO. He would have to use a lot of movement and look for a decision by landing punches and kicks but I believe Brock will get him down and finish him.
